Get to know you - Sims Style
@rstarsims3 tagged me for this a while back, and I'm finally posting my answers, which took me a while to compile because 1) Blabbity blab blab blab, as usual, and 2) Still needing lots of rest and stuff, so no sitting at a computer for hours on end.
But here we go! I'mma put my blabby answers and my tag list behind Ye Olde Cut.
What’s your favorite Sims death? What an odd question, especially to lead off… Well, I guess if I had to pick one, it'd be the one from TS2 where cloudwatching occasionally brings a satellite down on the cloudwatcher's head. But generally, mine die of old age, if they manage to get that far. I play with long, but realistically proportional, life stages, mostly because I'm almost always playing "experimental" saves where I'm "road testing" rulesets and such, so I need a lot of time to work out kinks and test ideas and stuff.)
Alpha CC or Maxis Match? I land on a combination of more-realistic (but not ultra-realistic) stuff for CAS, but for everything else, like with furniture and deco and stuff, I tend to prefer CC stuff that visually fits in with the EA stuff in terms of style and textures and whatnot, so that the CC doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when combined with EA stuff. In fact, my "go-to" CC for build/buy is stuff that adds on to EA stuff, like more doors/windows that match an EA door/window.
Do you cheat your sims weight? What, to make the fat ones skinny? The skinny ones fat? The skinny ones buff? No. I don't see why I would. It's easy enough to make a sim gain or lose weight without cheating, which I'm assuming means just using the sliders.
Do you move objects? Is there anyone who doesn't? That's a serious question. Is there any one who doesn't? I want to know.
Favorite Mod? I'm leaving aside the NRaas mods because I don't see them as mods so much as things that are just essential to make the game playable in the often-weird ways that I play. There are others that I also consider just essential for when I'm playing in certain styles, especially for more primitive settings. But for ones that are optional and just pure fun, I'd nominate all of @thesweetsimmer111's baby- and toddler-related ones.
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? I know for TS2 it was Seasons. For TS3…For a long time, I had just the base game, which I got when it came out, but didn't play beyond trying it out and then going back to TS2. Then, years later, I got a new computer and decided to give TS3 another try, but I couldn't find the CD or DVD or whatever it was, so I bought a combo pack with the base game, Late Night, and the High End Loft or whatever it is stuff pack, so I guess it would be Late Night. Other than that, I bought all the other TS3 EPs in one go when EA had them on sale for 50% off via Origin, which that combo pack forced me to install. (But which I am now free of again. 🏴☠️)
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? As aLIVE. Because that is when the game is live. Games do not live, but they can be live. See, this is one reason why English sucks.
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? Here's a thing about me: I don't really get attached to the pixel people. For me, they're just tools. I'm guessing it's because I'm not a storyteller when it comes to Sims, so I don't see sims as characters. Sure, sometimes I find one endearing for one reason or another. Usually, they have traits that make them assholes, and I like to watch them create chaos and ruin wherever they go. One of the founders of the Random Legacy that I will get back to one of these days is one of those. But I find I like other people's sims more than mine, though that's more of a testament to those simmers' story-telling skills than anything else.
Have you made a simself? Only by accident. A few times I've just been randomly moving sliders around and somehow I ended up with something that looked like me at some stage in my life. It stayed that way for a minute or three, before I yelled OH GOD NO! and quickly slidered the horror away.
But to be honest? I find the entire concept kind of creepy, at least in terms of putting a self-sim in the game and playing them as a character. That would just feel weird to me. That said, I suppose it might have been something that would have appealed to me if I had played when I was a kid, but the game didn't exist when I was a kid. Computers didn't exist when I was a kid, at least not in a form that regular people could own and that could fit on a desk. I was in my 40s when I started playing the game. My daughter played TS2 when she was a kid, and she had a self-sim inserted into the stories she would play, so…yeah. Maybe it's a younger-person thing. Or maybe I'm just weird. Yeah, it's probably that second option.
Which is your favorite EA hair color? Probably the black, but even with that I have to add some highlights to it because otherwise the hair just looks like a creature from the void eating the sim's head.
Favorite EA hair? None of them. They all need to DIAF.
Favorite life stage? I don't have one. I have a least-favorite, babies, because they're basically just objects, but once they're actually sims, I enjoy playing sims of all ages equally.
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? I originally bought TS2 just to build in it, and for a couple of years, that was all I did. I only started actually playing the game later. Now, I enjoy both building and actually playing the game, depending on my mood. Usually, I'll have a binge of building, but I eventually come to a point where I'd rather do anything other than build. Then I play the game. Then, eventually, the urge to build comes back. So it's a back-and-forth.
Are you a CC creator? I made lots of stuff for TS2, mostly object retextures/recolors. I've made a few minor things for TS3, and I retexture hairs and add preg morphs to clothing for my own use, but I wouldn't consider myself a CC creator for TS3. In fact, I'm actively resisting learning how to make stuff for TS3 because I really don't want to go down that rabbithole again.
Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad? Friends in the sense of "people I enjoy talking to and sharing ideas with and sometimes arguing with here on Tumblr?" Sure. Are those the same as friendships that develop face-to-face in the real world? Nope. But, sometimes I like talking to my Simblr friends a lot more than talking to my real-life friends, so make of that what you will. Y'all are less draining sometimes. LOL
Do you have any sims merch? No official merch, but my brother-in-law is into making pottery, and several years ago he made me a big stoneware mug with a plumbbob on it. Which is ironic because when I play the game I turn off the plumbbobs because I hate them. LOL But I love the mug. It's heavy enough that neither cats nor wagging dog tails nor giant snakes (though he could do it if he focused all four of his brain cells on the task) can knock it off of tables, but not so heavy that I can't comfortably lift it. I use it for eating soup and the occasional mug cake, and also for drinking the awful herbal tea my husband makes me drink, though since the recent surgery, I don't have to drink that anymore! *dances* So now it will just be my soup or cake mug. Or one for tea that I actually want to drink.
Do you have a YouTube for sims? I don't have a YouTube for anything. Well, OK, I have a YouTube account for watching other people's stuff and making playlists of things I want to watch, but I don't post videos on it, and I don't really watch video game-related stuff on YouTube, either.
How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing? It hasn't, really. I've pretty much always just come up with wacky scenarios to play and see how they go. In fact, for me, coming up with the scenario and figuring out how to make it work in the game and then inventing a ruleset to govern it is sometimes more fun than actually playing the scenario. LOL
And my Sims all look like the game made them because…the game makes all of them. I just poke the random button until it produces something that doesn't look too much like a freak of nature, then I hit up a couple sliders to remove or tone down any remaining freakishness. (Though I confess that I will spend an inordinate amount of time sculpting the titties of those who have them. Why? I have no idea, other than I just like me a nice pair of titties. Too bad there aren't any sliders for male titties…) Then I just slap on a different hair, maybe change the eye color, and slather on some makeup and facial/body hair and shit until they don't look too stupid, and then off I go. From there, they're all born in the game, and I just leave them as-is, mostly because I can't be bothered. "I can't be bothered" is pretty much my philosophy of life.
Who’s your favorite CC creator? I hate this kind of question. I feel like all they do is disappoint and discourage people if they're never picked. I refuse to do that over something so trivial. So, my favorite CC creator is you, the person reading this. Yes, you. Even if you don't make CC. It doesn't matter. You're the best.
How long have you had Simblr? I started my TS2 one in 2013. (I can remember that only because I know that I started it the same year I met my husband. LOL ) I started this one….2 years ago? 3? Something like that.
How do you edit your pictures? Other than basic cropping and resizing and maybe adjusting brightness/contrast a bit if the pic is too dark or whatever, I generally don't. I don't even use Reshade all the time anymore, only in certain situations, though I do have an NVIDIA profile for the game that adds ambient occlusion and better antialiasing and shit like that. Sometimes, though, I'll decide to photoshop scenery pics, and then I just kind of stab at it with various tools and filters and layer blends and shit until I like I how it looks. There's no actual process involved. I'm random like that.
What expansion/ gamepack is your favorite? I gotta go with World Adventures. Bits of it are a bit, shall we say, culturally problematic, but man, I never get tired of doing those stupid, stupid tombs. LOL Plus, I love that NRaas Traveler allows you to "travel" to any world, and I don't think that mod works without WA, so…. Yeah. WA.
Tagging: I have no idea who's done this, so I'll just tag a few random people, off the top of my head. Feel free to do or ignore, as you choose. No pressure from me! So...@nectar-cellar, @happy-lemon, @erasabledinosaur, @esotheria-sims, @lilleputtu, @littlefrenchsims, @anamoon63, @lazysunjade, annnnnnnnd @papermint-airplane.

K’tar reverts to 1.67: Some notes...
So in the wake of EA forcing everyone to update from the Origin App to the EA App, which sporadically seems to cause even more problems than the Origin App for many TS3 players, I decided it was finally time to take the plunge and stop playing on 1.69. Below the cut, What I did, how I did it, issues and questions I ran into, and some notes.
First, I started off using this tutorial here: https://sims3tutorialhub.tumblr.com/post/176328544696/installing-sims-via-torrent Simply using the NoCD mod would not have worked for me, as I only own a few of the TS3 expansions and stuff packs via disc, and own most of them digitally. By the time I realized this might be an issue for me later, I already owned them all, and I don’t believe in paying for an entire franchise a second time just because game companies like EA will bleed you dry if they can.
Question #1: Do I need to uninstall first? After backing up the EA folder in my docs folder and the everything in the program files folder as well, per the suggestion in the above tutorial, and having already downloaded all the needed files, this was the first question that popped up for me. I don’t actually know the answer, but I decided that since my current installation was in Origin, which I hope not to use again (at least for TS3), I would uninstall everything from Origin, so I did so.
After that, I abandoned the above tutorial and instead followed the instructions that came with the downloaded files. They’re fairly concise and easy to follow. I went back and checked eventually and they’re basically the same as the ones in the above tutorial, except you’ve no need for further downloads, because everything is already included in what you’ve downloaded. If you are following the above tutorial to download the 1.67 super patch, be aware that you may have to copy and paste the link into a new browser tab to get the download to work. (I did.) This took me to having completed step 7 in the above tutorial.
Next, a step that isn’t mentioned in the tutorial, or the instructions in the download. Copy over your GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr from your old Program Files x86/.../Bin folder to your new one. This way your game will still recognize your graphics card and any changes you previously made to the graphics rules will remain.
Then I installed the proper version of @lazyduchess ’s Smooth patch into the same Bin folder. Thanks again for making it work with 1.67! I had a bit of trouble editing the TS3Patch.txt file, because the Bin folder properties had been set such that it wouldn’t let me edit the file directly. I ended up creating a copy of the file on my desktop, editing that, deleting the one in the Bin folder, and then moved the edited file into the Bin folder and gave the admin permission confirmation required.
As a last step, I installed the Nraas No CD mod to my mods/packages folder with the rest of my nraas mods and discovered that all of my game folders were still present, complete with logs, saved games, mods, everything. I wasn’t expecting that, as I thought everything would have been deleted when I uninstalled things, but nope. Everything was present and accounted for and I didn’t need to retrieve anything from the backup I’d made of that folder.
My game started up just fine. Nothing was missing, all mods seem to be working fine and are present. The game seems to take just a tad longer to start up than what I’ve been used to lately, but it’s like... maybe an extra minute, which is completely worth no longer having to deal with Origin and/or whatever online DRM crap EA may come up with in the future. Now I can play... with NO INTERNET. FREEDOM! My graphics were perfect, I didn’t need to adjust any settings at all, and everything was good to go.
Edit to add: If you’ve only ever played on 1.69, be aware that 1.67 does not have a built-in easy way to enable/disable expansions and stuff packs. However, someone shared with me this link to a mod that someone created to do precisely that! You can find it here: https://modthesims.info/d/499140/sim-game-selector-3-0-support-for-quot-into-the-future-quot-and-quot-movie-stuff-quot.html
Of course, your experience may vary... I’m running on a desktop computer with Windows 10, with all expansions and stuff packs installed, nearly 25k individual pieces of CC installed via CCMagic, plus a couple hundred other un-merged script mods and default replacement files installed in my Mods/Packages folder. (In case that helps at all.)
Cheers! I’m off to play my game!
#ts3#sims3#not gameplay#ts3 no cd installation#ts3 1.69 to 1.67#I've been meaning to do this for years#so thanks EA for finally giving me the push to do it

Time for a recap of the last twelve months! It's basically my tradition at this point. This year was a weird one. I'm not even gonna get into real life issues. It sure was something and I'm going into 2023 with no energy and zero expectations, lol. But with this mindset, I can only be pleasantly surprised, right? Or...the world will show me that when you think it can't get any worse, it will.
Anyway, simblr stuff! This is the year I started drifting away from tumblr. It makes me sad, but really, it just isn't the same as it was when I joined. The interaction is not what I wish to get so I'm simply moving to places where I feel like I'm actually heard and seen. Idk. I've tried a few times to "be the change I wanna see" but it's hard to change stuff around here. But oh well, to each their own. I'll probably stick around, even if I hang out more somewhere else and what you see are mostly queued posts. And, well, if twitter burns down, which I wouldn't be surprised if it did, you know I'll fully come back here. I love this hellsite. Genuinely. It makes me mad but I love it.
But I still love you guys. TS3 discord and a few other people who are not in that discord, I do seriously love you.
So, what was happening on this blog this year?
𝕛𝕒𝕟𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕪
I was still posting my previous BC! Well, I was finishing it. Vi became a parent and hadn't become a cheating jerk yet. 😅
𝕗𝕖𝕓𝕣𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕪
*this* is Vi's cheating jerk era. I still feel bad about how I resolved the whole thing, it was too rushed. I guess I was focusing more on the gameplay part and the NSB rules and less on whether their actions are logical? Prince shouldn't have come back to him, that's the hill I'll die on :D I know, I know, NSB rules and all, but he shouldn't have.
𝕞𝕒𝕣𝕔𝕙
We're slowly moving onto Bloom's very short generation, as well as gen 3 of my lepacy. It's Ginevra's time to shine, but first, we spent a lot of time with the winners of Axel and August's BC.
𝕒𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕝
Bambi and Candy are born, as well as the BC babies. Loads of baby cuteness in April on this blog. Oh and Ross flourishes in his babysitter era. Well, he's always been a babysitter to his descendants, but I feel like this is where he 100 % accepts it 😂
𝕞𝕒𝕪
Gins' era truly starts now (why do I keep saying era in this recap lmao). I had a lot of fun playing in Twinbrook again and Ginevra and Lori were so great. <3
𝕛𝕦𝕟𝕖
Alongside my lepacy (hi Elias & other gen 4 babies), I started posting the pink gen of NSB and also, my 100 Baby Challenge! I still can't believe I actually did that, and that I completed it in like two months only. Wow. What. I mean, yeah, I hyperfocused on it, but still. How did I do that.
𝕛𝕦𝕝𝕪
Again, gen 3 of lepacy and gen 7 of NSB, not much to say here. As for playing, I mostly just played the baby challenge. Oh! And Maeve's BC, of course.
Ohh, and July was the month when I decided to dive into the wonderful sims community on twitter. Probably one of my best decisions this year as I made many great friends there...🥰🥰
𝕒𝕦𝕘𝕦𝕤𝕥
Gen 3 ends and Sawyer is ready to take over Bridgeport but he has to wait for a bit. Pastel enters the blog and her bonding with Ross is seriously one of my most favourite things. I didn't think of this at first when I was playing, it only came to me later when I was posting the generation, but he definitely grew fond of her because she reminds him of Sunset so much ;-;
𝕤𝕖𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕣
Good news: Bambi and Atsuko get married. Bad news: Ross and Caleb break up. *sigh* There's so much to unpack with their breakup storyline. Yes it makes sense that they'd hit a few bumps on the road, yes it makes sense that some of them would be bad, but...deep down, the breakup only happened because of my insecurities and lowkey being afraid of using a townie in my stories. At least I kinda got over that this fall (thank you twitter moots).
More good news: I'm finally posting the BC!!
𝕠𝕔𝕥𝕠𝕓𝕖𝕣
I finished posting the 100BC and...yeah this was Maeve's month. October was also very vampiric, but I'll probably mention that in a separate recap (if I do a separate recap haha), as this one only focuses on my regular daily content (legacies and such)
𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕣
In November, we saw the funniest twist to ever happen in my BCs. Sorry River :D Aaand we also have the winner of Maeve's BC! I can't wait for you all to see them again in the legacy. Next year, hopefully.
𝕕𝕖𝕔𝕖𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕣
Sawyer's time to shine has come. Well, not really, his siblings are constantly stealing it. Don't be surprised if he one day, you know, steals their organs and sells them.
Oh, and it's also TS3!Ross's time to shine. Because of course it is. I knew I needed to use his TS3 self somewhere, and all things considered, this felt like a perfect time for that.
December was also the month I started posting videos on youtube. I'm sorry if I'm annoying about that, but I just enjoy it so much. Never thought I'd say that. So, if you haven't yet, feel free to check it out (and subscribe maybe? 🥺). I'm hoping to do some fun stuff next year.
What's in store for 2023? I'll probably talk about that later, but to put it simply, I think this blog will be stuck with NSB and lepacy.
Thanks for sticking around with my grumpy self. Here's to a better 2023.
Happy new year, everyone!

TS3, boderderless, new machines and FPS limit!!!
UPDATE 2.0 Except borderless gaming app and initial explanations, this guide is now OUTDATED!!! Read new guide HERE: https://justmiha97.tumblr.com/post/633811982604222464/another-way-to-limit-ts3-fps IMPOTANT!!! UPDATE FOR 1.69 GAME VERSION INSTALLATION!!!
Check down in step 4.a. for changes on how to do this properly. For people who renamed their files to:
Rename them back to: TS3.exe to 3booter.exe TS3W.exe to TS3.exe TS3W.exe.backup to TS3W.exe
Original post:
I never knew I would be making this post till few hours back, but until now it wasn’t really much known that sims 3 in windowed mode could be run with FPS limit, which forced a lot of people to run the game in full screen. Recently a friend (find him here) and I discovered how to limit FPS for both 1.67 and 1.69 game versions in windowed mode.
Why is this important?
Well, on newer PC’s, ones with a GPU processing power that can easily render recent games, Sims 3 is expected to run exceedingly well... but because Sims 3 is so poorly designed/optimized on a technical level, there is a problem with that. Sims 3 has no FPS limitation, so on newer cards, FPS can get up to even 1k FPS which is INSANE. Personally I had from 500-700 FPS on loading screens myself. This means that: 1. Your card is being overworked and overheated and will be damaged 2. The in-game micro stutter that happens frequently is because the game constantly has short but extreme peaks in frame rate (from 60 - 600 FPS) This is why it’s desired to FPS limit TS3.exe or TS3W.exe!!!
What does windowed mode have to do with all of this?
It’s possible to limit your game FPS in full screen mode trough your graphic control panel application. Though for me it did not work, a lot of people report it working for them. Until now it wasn’t known that the same could be done for windowed mode, meaning users with high end PC running the game windowed were doomed to experience GPU crashes or even worse component death. Now however, a fix has been discovered.
But why would I want to run windowed then?
In full screen mode, game is rendered way darker, which is why EA just lazily slapped on a brightness filter, which makes the whole game brighter than it actually should be. This also means that screenshots of the game taken in full screen (unless they are taken with in-game screenshot feature, which is lower quality) are practically unusable since they are too dark.
When in full screen, the game goes out of memory faster, especially if you are alt tabbing (switching windows) a lot.
Ok, ok but how do I get rid of borders now?
That’s why this guide is here. For that you will need a third party borderless games application. You can find it here, but this will be detailed later in this step by step guide.
THE GUIDE
Before we start, if you want to have your games set up to run well, read trough and apply fixes from these guides:
-https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/The-Sims-3-How-to-Minimize-Lag-and-Stabilize-the-Game/m-p/9647783
-https://twitter.com/crosimmer/status/1291882081191170048?s=21
They are all similar in nature but have their own additions to making the game run better. They are extremely helpful and effective. They even include guides on how to FPS limit the game in full screen if you want to keep playing the game that way. Also, be sure to read the last ( 7.) point in this guide as it is important and will determine if you even want to do this or not.
Now that that’s out of the way...
1. First thing to do is run the game and make sure that full screen is off. This is luckily easy to do. If it’s not off, turn it off in options:
2. Next, if you’ve applied FPS limit trough your graphic control application as advised by guides, make sure it’s disabled because it will interfere with this fix. 3. Once you are sure that it is disabled, get 3booter and FPSlimiter from this page: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=15585.0 (files in first two posts) 4. Open both .zip archives and extract all their contents to: - C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin or -C:/Program Files x(86)/Origin Games/The Sims 3/Game/Bin or whatever your install location of the game is.
4.a. If your game version is 1.69 there is one more step here. Once the files are extracted, you will need to rename launcher like this: Sims3Launcher.exe to Launcher.exe And then download and extract this new launcher exe in the bin:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18lMmkXBF_5sknVo0UvxbNp6h_JZu9z7E/view?usp=sharing
Rename it to Sims3Launcher.exe 5. Now that you have the fixes set up properly, you can run the game: - Trough 3booter.exe if you are on version 1.67 (feel free to make a shortcut) or - Trough new launcher, Sims3Launcher.exe, if you are on 1.69. Note that your shortcuts to game launcher will now point to this new launcher due to filename. If you want to use the old launcher, make a shortcut for Launcher.exe
6. BUT WAIT!!! What about that borderless thingy m’ bob? Well here comes that part of setting up windowed mode to look like it’s full screen. First you want to go to the link of the program, I’ll post it again for convenience: https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases Then scroll down a bit and download this:
Once that’s downloaded, install it and run it, after you’ve ran the game in windowed mode. You will be greeted with this:
To have your game in borderless mode, add it to the list on the left by selecting your game name from the list. It will be the name of the last expansion you are running, with [TS3W] next to it ([TS3] if you haven’t installed FPS limiter on 1.69). After the game is selected, click the arrow
And your game will automatically turn into a full screen-like application. IMPORTANT!: DO NOT CLOSE borderless gaming app, only minimize it. It has to run at all times while your game is running or the game will stop being borderless. Make sure to set borderless gaming app to run on windows launch if you don’t want to bother reopening it every time you start your PC.
7. Final notes. (Still IMPORTANT) If you’ve gotten this far, congratulations, you are one patient simmer willing to put in effort to perfect your sims 3 game experience. Not everything can be perfect however, and there are some additional notes to take care of. - First, the FPS limiter program only limits the game to 30FPS. People who have had the game run at 60FPS might be disappointed by this. However the game already runs it’s animations at only 30FPS so there is no need for additional frames. However it’s still you choice. If you do see a difference with 60FPS and don’t want to change it, you can still run the game full screen with 60FPS graphics control limiter. -Second, if you are NOT experiencing FPS higher than 60 in any part of the game (even load screens and main menu), there is no need to install this fix. However be vary that whenever you change hardware, especially GPU, you might need to take care of this. -Third and final, as a side note, there is a program that lets you unpark your CPU cores for that final addition of sims 3 smooth experience. This is completely OPTIONAL. Here is the program’s page (scroll all the way down for download): https://coderbag.com/product/quickcpu To set it up to unpark all cores you just have to do this
And click Apply.
FINALLY DONE?
Yes, yes. Finally done. That’s it Folks. Have fun with your games and good luck simming! And thanks to crosims for helping me out get this working on 1.69.

Curious and autistic-coded
Hello there! April draws to an end and with that I think it’s high time to hurry up and write this. What does April have to do with anything, you ask? April is the Autism Acceptance Month. So what better month to do this?
Unfortunately I didn’t make it. I failed. It’s already 1. 5. when I’m posting this. But at least I tried to deliver on time.
In this mini essay I’ll present my case about why I think the Curious brothers from TS2 Strangetown display autistic-coded traits and my personal takes on it.
It’s basically your average headcanon post but with a funny top hat!
0: Preface: What do I mean by “autistic-coded”?
When a character is coded as something, it means that they have traits that are associated with the demographics in question to make the consumer knowingly or not link the character with the demographic, although the character's "label” is never explicitly disclosed.
In the nutshell, it means that there are canonical reasons to read the characters as autistic, although you won't find the word "autism" anywhere in the game nor in the developer's commentary.
In this particular case I do believe that the developer may not even be aware of the code, as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. If there is, I’m not aware of it and I would be happy to learn.
So, let’s start!
1: “The white male who is very good at science”
Unfortunately autistic representation in pop-culture has a long history of being rather straightforward in which traits the characters often have. This stems from the belief that autism is “a boy’s disorder” (that’s why some autism charities to this day use blue in their symbols). Among popular examples of autistic-coded characters are Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper and Death Note’s L and Near. I’m sure you can think of more but you’ll find that most of them are men and either explicitly white or racially ambiguous white-passing. They also tend to be gifted in tech, logic or other science-y activities.
There’s nothing wrong with that! Nothing wrong with being an autistic with those “stereotypical” characteristics and there is nothing wrong with people being represented. What is wrong is the monotony and afab people/people of color being underrepresented which leads (among other factors) to harder access to diagnosis and resources for those people in real life. But! That’s a topic for a different day. (and not for a simbrl, mind you)
Back to the Curiouses! I just wanted to say that autism in media is traditionally associated with characters whose gender presentation, race and interests align with theirs. Those characteristic thus make a very convenient template for autistic-coding.
2: Inconsistent performance, huge gaps between strengths and weaknesses
Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo are very skilled Sims by default, extraordinarily even for their age. Pascal has a skill maxed while his younger brothers both near maxing theirs.
But as you can see in Pascal’s default skill panel, apart from Creativity, all his other skills are extremely low, 0 points for Mechanical, Body and Charisma, 1 point for Cooking and Logic and his second best skill, Cleaning, has only 3 points. The same situation can be observed in Vidcund’s and Lazlo’s, except their strong suits are Logic and Cooking respectively.
Huge discrepancies within performance in different cognitive areas is a common trait found in those on the autism spectrum. We’re often talking extremes here and the scale of the difference is the defining factor. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, it’s just in neurodivergent people those tend to be unusually noticeable.
I think that skills, simplified as they are, are the closest The Sims has to possibly simulate that because they track the character’s performance and expertise in different areas and allow comparison. In real life, of course, this comparison is not nearly as possible and exact, nor desired, but for all our analysis-loving enthusiasm, here we’re still talking fictional characters.
3: Struggle with social cues
It is widely known that one of autistic traits are difficulties with processing social situations, picking social cues and successfully replicating socially desired behavioral patterns.
But these three are Sims, are they not? They cannot possibly display this trait, since they’re programmed the same way as others.
Yes and no.
It is true that there is no specific in-game feature that would allow Sims to behave with explicit neurodivergency in mind* but with the right combination of traits they can simulate behavior that really hits close to home for neurodivergent players.
*at least not in TS2, TS3 has traits that simulate some possible neurodivergencies but their names tend to be rather... ableist unfortunate and they’re not relevant to this post since they’re not autism related, and even if they were, we’re focusing on TS2 exclusively
Let’s take look at Lazlo here. He is, indeed, a playful soul. He likes to goof around, tell jokes, make others laugh. And since he’s very close to his brother Vidcund, close enough even to Tell Dirty Joke (an interaction that needs quite a high relationship to unlock), he autonomously does just that.
And oh boy, does Vidcund disapprove.
From my personal experience playing them, their relationship usually takes quite a hit from every cheeky joke Lazlo throws Vid’s way. They usually autonomously repair it very quick but it happens often.
But that’s a standard behavior. Vidcund’s very serious, he doesn’t take well to jokes.
No. I mean technically yes, Vid is definitely a grumpy old plant dad but, at least in my game, he tends to accept Lazlo’s jokes. All kinds of them, actually, except for the dirty ones. And Pascal, who technically has even lower Playful points (0 in comparison to Vidcund’s 4), doesn’t seem to mind Lazlo’s poor attempts at grown-up humor.
But! What is it that makes Lazlo try still? What drives him to attempt to make Vidcund laugh with a dirty joke over and over again? (and fail?)
I my interpretation, Lazlo doesn’t do that on purpose, he is just really poor at evaluating “dirtiness” of a given joke and frequently misinterprets Vidcund’s cues. The animation of a dirty joke being rejected even supports that as Vid doesn’t signal his discomfort with any exaggerated easy-to-read facial expression until Lazlo gets to his punchline.
No only that but as I mentioned, the invisible lines between spicy and too vulgar are often hard to thread. I can recall many times I thought I was saying a witty quip on an “adult” topic and was met with awkward silence or someone shushing me because “that’s not how you speak in public”. I can well imagine myself in Lazlo’s shoes.
A situation of social cues being misinterpreted or ignored can be observed also in Vidcund. Programming-wise, those are just his low Niceness and extreme Shyness showing but combined they again paint a picture of a very neurodivergent-looking behavioral pattern.
He often behaves like the concept of politeness or social rules doesn’t exist because the combination of the aforementioned traits makes him come off very blunt (lecturing and shoving telescope-peepers with no warning whatsoever) and distant (having a high chance of rejecting simple small-talk socials).
(That’s Jasmine Rai casting the “Summon Vidcund” spell.)
Yes, I am fully aware that it makes a stronger case for him being an a**hole than autistic but... there’s no reason he can’t be both. Not all autistic people are sweet cinnamon buns, all personalities you can think of can be neurodiverse and, for some their neurodiversity can even amplify their inconsiderate ways, as I believe it is the case with our dear grouch Vidcund.
4. Their bios
“No matter what happens, Pascal believes there is a logical explanation for everything. In his free time, he practices home psychoanalysis and collects conspiracy theories.”
(that’s how I imagine practicing psychoanalysis looks like, sorry Freud)
“Serious and exact, Vidcund strives to fit the universe into a nice tidy package. He has an unnatural fondness for African violets.”
(let’s collectively pretend those are African violets)
“Not as studious as his older brothers, Lazlo got his degree in Phrenology. He likes to call phone psychics and spends hours trying to bend forks with his mind.”
*error: screenshot of Lazlo bending forks not found*
(but here he is hanging out with Erin Beaker, the closest thing to “calling phone psychics” you can actually do in-game)
Both Pascal’s and Vidcund’s bios point to a pattern-focused worldview with a strong emphasis on rationality as the center-point that anchors the way they understand the world around them and build their principles on. This “pattern-ization” of thinking is a common autistic trait, with rationality being a popular theme because emotions tend to be difficult to access and asses for many of us.
Lazlo’s biography is an outlier. But it still has something significant in common with those of his brothers: All three of their bios allude to a potential special interest of sorts.
Special interests as an autism-related term are very specific, in-depth and long-term hobbies or areas of expertise that make an autistic person happy and they tend to go to seemingly exhausting lengths, often at the cost of other areas of knowledge and most likely the person’s ability to talk about anything else for a long enough time. (a loving hyperbole, no disrespect meant) Mine are my characters and cats. An even more intense but a short(er)-term passion is called a hyperfixation.
Them potentially having a special interest is yet another possible autistic-coded feature.
5. Wait. Why does it matter?
Right. What does it matter if a Sim (A SIM) (or two or three) is autistic? What do I hope to achieve, pushing my autistic Curiouses agenda down your throats?
I got to write a long rant-piece about some of my favorite TS characters and I feel like I can finally die satisfied.
Apart from that and me sharing my happiness of finding some good pixels I can relate to, it is a matter of representation.
Remember by the very beginning I wrote how most of the representation our community gets in media tends to be just a one specific type of character?
And how the Curious brothers seem to fit the stereotype to a point?
There is something I omitted, something I saved for the last on purpose.
The role. The role in their story, the role in the society the piece of media portrays.
We often see neurodiverse, autistic or autistic-coded character as children, students, villains, lone savants, victims in distress, comedic relief sidekicks, either very vulnerable and needing protection, or detached and having their role defined only by their academic prowess or their special interest/profession.
What we rarely get to see them as, are... parents.
That’s what many of us autistics are or plan to be someday in the future. The dogma around autism has started to dwindle relatively recently and there are little to no examples of autistic adults being the care-givers for once in the media around us.
The Curious brothers are just that. They are chaotic, they are eccentric, they can be a little too much... but they are dutiful and loving fathers/uncles to their little aliens they raise.
They make it work. Even if they face difficulties, even if they don’t exactly fit the standard.
“Sometimes, a family truly can be three brothers raising alien babies, and it’s beautiful.”
It encourages us to define family by love rather than traditional structures and it shows us that portrait of a functional neurodiverse family we need to see.
And goodness, is it a powerful sight.

Hiii!! It would be amazing if you made those car models into actual buyable/drive able cars! They would fit so well into real cars for the game!! Have you thought about maybe doing that?
Hey anon! Oh, having these cars as a lot mode buyable/driveable vehicles would be awesome, although I don’t think I could manage to adapt them all to this purpose. You see, hood deco cars I’m working on have no interior, there are no doors in most cases, and the wheels are extremely lowpoly. It would take a lot of time to prepare everything and I have zero experience in rigging cars so that it would actually work in game.

Your answer about extracting sims and sim surgery was super helpful and interesting! Thank you!
You what mate? O.o Lol! Looks like you’ve got the wrong inbox :D

Would be cool with a police version of the "Vikea" similiar to the never used demonstration version that shows up if you google "volvo police car falls church virginia"
Oh, that police car looks really nice! I might do that actually. I wanted to do some more emergency vehicles anyway so

Hello there! What camera mod are you using?
Hello Yosarna! I can’t remember if I’m honest, but it’s definitely the one from @lowedeus compilation. But that’s no big deal, since now we have this camera released by @lowedeus! I strongly recommend to use it.

Is there any 000000000000.1 chance the cars can move?
The cars that ride the streets in neighborhood mode can be defaulted with the ones I’m making, so yes. Kind of.

Which Water Mod do you use? It looks like the in between of Voeille's and the vanilla water
Oh, yes, it’s vanilla Super Collection water. The water reflection on mac version of TS2 is quite a bit meh, so it doesn’t have any animation, nor small ripples like the classic windows TS2 nhood water has. Just plain mirror.

Hi criquette! Lovely work on Feverfew and good luck to you! I was wondering, will Feverfew be available as a subhood or only as a main hood? :) Hope you have a nice day!
Hey anon! I Thank you! I can’t see why it shouldn’t have this option, so yes, that’s possible!

Can u plz teach @leoz94 how to season his flora😭 for the culture
Lol! I’m certain that @leoz94 is capable of doing seasoned flora, but often it’s the matter of time and priorities and one is forced to choose between making six different trees and a single season enabled tree. Making seasoned flora can be time consuming.

Hello! I saw your reply under iCad's reply to my ask about slaved deco road pieces and plopped both these pieces and bridges from your RC. They really changed texture to my road defaults, but problem is that they're much darker than my roads. I'm using dreadpirate's road default v1 and her roads are quite bright, but both your bridges and road pieces are much darker and this looks weird. :/ At night, they look okay and match, but during the day, there's big difference between. Any idea why?
Hello there! Yes, decorative road pieces do look darker than the real road in lot mode because it’s how the game works. In neighborhood mode real roads are represented by ‘overlay’ mesh which is just hovers over the terrain. In lot mode, lot skirt roads become one with the terrain, so basically, One tile of the real road in nhood mode and one tile of the real road in lot mode are completely different things. They use different shaders, different textures and different material definitions. Whilst hood deco road piece is just a hood deco which stays the same no matter if it’s hood mode or lot mode.

hey criquette!! i’m really enjoying watching feverfew come slowly together, it looks amazing!! i also really like the detailed vehicles you’ve been making, and i was wondering if it was possible to have them as defaults for the nhood animated traffic? i think it would look really nice...
Hey nonnie! Thank you! Yes, that’s totally doable, although I’m not sure this option will be available by the time the whole set will be released.

Hi Criquette, just downloaded Rural Charm and have everything showing up correctly except for the road overlays. One of the straight pieces shows grass on the sides to cover the Maxis sidewalk, but when I place it the grass disappears. I know that I can just delete the sidewalks but that messes with driveway orientation
Hello anon! Oh, yes, that’s because I’ve made road overlays with transparent roadsides. What happens is; when you just holding it, the game renders a preview of the piece without applying the alpha channel, but it’s there once it’s placed. I really need to season these overlays, so that we could have a proper snowy roadsides in winter and also have an option of not getting rid of sidewalks.

I'm writing this quickly since sou said you'll babe answering ass tomorrow ! I hope you're doing good ! I'm sorry if it has been already asked, it can be quite annoying to answer the same things again and again, but I was wondering if you'd ever convert you hood decor into objects for other versions of the game (ts3 and ts4) or if you'd ever allow conversions from others ? Have a nice day !
Hey anon! Lol, yes I’m absolutely fine with people converting my hood decos to other sims games! Although I never do it myself because I play TS2 only. Oh well, who am I lying to anyway. I just make hood decos for it |◔◡◉|

My History with The Sims
I don’t typically like to talk about personal things here, but I felt the need to write this up for myself to remember my journey through the Sims games. I thought I’d go ahead and post it publicly if anyone was curious or wanted to read it. This might get a bit lengthy, so I’ll keep it all under a “keep reading” note.
First off, I just wanted to say, I personally never saw myself as a “simblr.” I created a tumblr a long time ago to post about things I like; video games, anime, and music. The Sims games just happen to be a series of video games that I like to play a lot, so I post about it. I’m not really into the whole Sims community thing. I’m honestly prefer to keep to myself and do my own thing.
I never played a Sims game as a kid. I don’t even know if I knew what they were until one weekend while my best friend from school (still best friend today) was staying over and had brought his laptop with The Sims 3 on it and was wanting to show me the game. This was sometime after The Sims 3 launched in 2009, I was in 8th grade (maybe?) Anyways, point is we made ourselves as sims and played around in the game. My brother and I are huge fans of games where you can create characters in and I thought it was so funny seeing all the wacky stuff you could do in it and control these little characters’ lives in this game. At the time I didn’t have a PC remotely good enough to play modern PC games, so getting the game was out of the question for me. Eventually I got it on its console release in 2010. Oh the console Sims 3... it was different. My brother and I adored it for what it was, but we weren’t idiots. We could tell how different the game was on its limited console counterpart. It was not the same game as the PC version. The PC version of Sims 3 was always something I wanted, but never knew when I’d get it.
Towards the end of 2010 I got my first “gaming PC.” Predominately to play games like Half-Life 2, Garry’s Mod, and Fallout: New Vegas (with mods.)
It wasn’t until December of 2012 when I got Sims 3 with its Supernatural Expansion after watching Anthony and Ian from Smosh play it during one of their Lunchtime with Smosh videos. I was like, “Oh! Sims 3, I remember that game. I should get it and play it now that I have a PC!”
This was it! I finally had Sims 3 on PC and it finally set in. My brother and I went crazy over this game it was so much fun! We started by making ourselves and closest friends as sims and eventually began making sims of our favorite characters. This was huge for us. With all the control Sims 3 had to offer it was like making the perfect world filled with all our favorite people and characters. We created video game characters like Mario, Luigi, the Left 4 Dead survivors, and then anime and cartoon characters, and then even real life people like funny Youtubers like Smosh. Some of them were pretty bad looking... but my brother and I didn’t care. To us, they were the characters living out their crazy lives in this virtual world surrounded by all these other characters. I always made the comparison that it was like some big ultimate fan fiction, but actually being able to live it out.
As time went on, we continued playing and nurturing our Sims 3 game. I began downloading CC for our sims game. I’d browse CC and find something that looked closer to a character’s design and think “Ooo, this would be perfect for so-and-so!” We also got better and better at making sims’ faces and improving upon their designs. Our sims were constantly metamorphosing into newer and better versions of themselves. My brother and I had put so much time and work into them it became our hobby and it was very rewarding to see them improve with all the time and effort we would put into them. I was so proud of our sims I made a DeviantART profile, so I could post and share pictures of the characters my brother and I had created in Sims. Originally I was nervous posting pictures of our sims online, but I was filled with joy when I began getting nice comments from people complimenting them and such positive feedback from others. I was so happy with my sims and having other people tell me they were good too just felt very rewarding to me. I had begun to make it a habit to upload pictures of the sims I had made and it was a fun thing for me to do. My sims and pictures were honestly pretty bad looking back, but at the time I really enjoyed them.
I got the point where I needed more for my sims, so I learned how to do some modding. This was probably around mid 2013 when I began learning little things at first like texture edits on clothing. Some time into 2014 I started making bigger things like meshes. They weren’t really good, but they were something. This was a big step in the direction I was wanting for myself and my creations. It really opened my eyes to the endless possibilities and offered me so much freedom. No longer was I bound to the laws of “I’ll have to use whatever I can find.” I was able to improve so many of my sims with mods I could create myself.
We spent about 2 and half years playing Sims 3 then in 2014 Sims 4 launched. I was ecstatic to have a new Sims game! I had loved TS3 so much and was looking forward to everything Sims 4 had to offer. The game came out, we played it, we made ourselves and immediate best friends as a household, and it was FUN. We really did enjoy it, but we came to the conclusion it was lacking so much compared to TS3. We knew we were comparing a basegame Sims 4 to a fully fleshed out all DLC Sims 3. I remember trying to recreate characters in Sims 4, but not being completely happy with them. Sims 4 was a new game and I had no clue how to mod it like I did Sims 3. We actually ended up going back to Sims 3 for some time. It was at a point where we would ping-pong between the games. I remember Sims 4 being new and interesting, but I think I fell back to Sims 3 because it just had so much. All of my sims and their content were there still while Sims 4 was all new.
Going back to Sims 3 was like a return to form. It felt good to see all my sims I worked so hard on and I continued to work on them even though Sims 4 was a thing. I would still play Sims 4 some when new DLC came out and play around in the game a bit, but all my serious sim making and pictures came from Sims 3. Playing both games I learned a lot about sim making, modeling, and just the games in general. It wasn’t until early 2016 I finally felt like I had hit my apex in Sims 3. I could create sims to the best of my ability at the time and was satisfied with my work. It was around this time I decided to make a tumblr and I began posting some of my last Sims 3 pictures I ever took.
Then in 2017 I learned how to mod Sims 4. This was a BIG game changer for me. I could finally start making all my sims over again and they wouldn’t be out shined by their Sims 3 counterparts. I would complete a sim and be so happy with the result. My Sims 4 game was finally on par if not better than my Sims 3 sims. I wanted my sims to use more content I created and not have to rely on others. My brother and I played and made so many characters in Sims 4 since then. We really focused on honing our craft. Our sims went through rigorous polishing over the next years. We’d be happy with our sims, leave the game for a few weeks, come back think our sims look bad, edit them up and make them better, and repeat. It was a never ending cycle really. We had this big strive for our sims characters to be perfect. Our goal was for a character to look like they came straight out of their own universe into The Sims. To this day, my brother and I have amassed more than 600 sims in our game total. A feat we are both very proud of.

PROBLEMS with TS4: Realm of Magic
So this was the pack for The Sims 4 so far that I’ve been the most excited about. I am gonna say it again but I prepared a savefile dedicated to witches with over 400 sims that have unique backstories, are fleshed out with traits, careers, relationships, clubs, skills, custom builds, and heck even phone cases! I was so sure they were gonna NAIL this pack like they did with Vampires, and although many parts of the Vampire Pack were a bit ‘excessive’ in my opinion, that’s a great problem to have because it’s usually the other way around.
So with TS4: Realm of Magic we get the new world Glimmerbrook, which looks very similar to Granite Falls (TS4: Outdoor Retreat), but is a bit more magical and has its unique quirks. I like this world a lot and I think it’s drop-dead gorgeous and was hoping they would recycle some Granite Falls assets for this pack since it takes a lot of their budget to create a new world with new plants and objects, and I would rather have that part of the budget go to spellcasting, which is what the pack is actually about. Glimmerbrook is awesome, with the exception of their non-functional messed up houses that are missing doors and have weird missing textures that if you’re anything like me, you will need to fix to be able to play in, which is annoying when you have to do that for every new save you start. We should just be able to throw ourselves into the game and not have to fix things before we get to the fun stuff... Not everyone likes renovating houses for hours like Lilsimsie, and even she’s mad, so.
Then we also get the magical realm, which looks really cool and has a fascinating story behind it, but to be honest I don’t know if I’ll use it that much because it kinda kills the story behind it when you see regular old townies walking around in the realm and using magic like they’re part of that secret world, like no. Just no. This renders that world essentially useless for me and a lot of other players.
The Create-A-Sim items are kinda lackluster, but the ones we do get look awesome and I like that they tackle different styles of spellcasters with their gothic, preppy, shady and hermit kind of clothes. I have so much CC I don’t necessarily yearn for more CAS content, but it is fun to get new meshes to see what CC creators will do with them! I’ll take it!
The Build items look phenomenal and I just want to praise EA for giving us a brand new style of content and also A FULL SET of objects (Except missing cupboards for the new kitchen, damn this is getting old), but it does kind of become less versatile when some objects have magical effects attached to them, like the desk for example. It’s cute and all, I get it, but I might want to use that desk in a normal house and now that house will have a complete set except for the desk because it’s too magical for the story I’m telling with them. I wish they just removed the magical effect completely or at least made two versions. Or I just use another desk, it’s not too big of a deal.
Now to the Gameplay... HERE WE GO RANT TIME
Okay so, first of all, I think the spells and potions we get are pretty lame as they don’t really add anything new to the game. They don’t add any new gameplay features or mechanics like if you remember Genies from TS3, they had an ability to control sims which temporarily added them to your household with a cool effect where you could literally have full control over them like your own sims and make them behave pretty much however you want. Why didn’t they add any mechanics like this? They basically only recycled vampire powers, made base game cheats into spells, or stole the SimRay ‘Freeze’ interaction from TS4: Get To Work, and they don’t add basically any new animations aside from the ones the spellcaster uses, which is also like two, one for casting on others and one for casting on self, so it looks super repetitive when they cast spells frequently. And to rub salt in the wound, we don’t even get any new spells when we have other packs like TS4: Seasons, which is such a missed opportunity on making weather spells, or vampire and witch fights with TS4: Vampires? Why do these start feeling more and more like independent games instead of packs meant to EXPAND our game?
Also, spellcasting is just so glitchy, I mean the spellcaster doesn’t even face the target of their spell, so it just kind of breaks that feeling of “Oh my sim is doing this!” and feels more like a “My sim is doing.. something? OH the sink is fixed!” you know? And when they’re really close to the sim they’re casting on their animation will clip through them like, oh the quality... And I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of hoping for less whimsical and magical glitter effects in this pack than we had in previous games because I view magic as a hidden force and not as glitter flying everywhere, but damn this pack has like NO EFFECTS, when you cast ‘Strangeify’ on a sim, they literally BOOP (Shoutout to Romeo) into their green and witchy face. I get it’s not easy to do a transition, but come on, add a smoke effect to cover up that hard transition AT LEAST? And just the utter lack of reaction from the person being cast on totally breaks it even more. They just stand there like completely unaware their face was just messed up, or when you make two sims fight or kiss, they just walk there and do it immediately with so little notice like it’s a cheat, and it’s even hard to even find the sims that are being cast on because it just looks so ordinary. Isn’t this a magic pack? We could get the “vampire mesmerize effect” at least to show that the sims are commanded?
Even if spellcasting weren’t glitchy, it’s still way too overpowered in my opinion. Sure we have curses to mess things up for us, but you can just make a Curse Cleansing potion, Copypasto it infinite times and never have any problems. I also wish that there was a potion for setting your sims age back by just one day instead of “BECOME IMMORTAL” or “FREEZE AGE”. It would give us reason to keep making potions and trying to keep our sim alive, giving us actual gameplay and story.
The Familiars, in my opinion, are just so silly. You know how Kids Room Stuff added Voidcritters which are the sims equivalent of Pokémon? Well now you can have them as a witch familiar, so apparently, spellcasters are actually Pokémon trainers? Why would you even put those things in here like they are not supposed to exist? And we only got a Raven as our only normal familiar. I will probably only use those ravens and I wish they could sit on your shoulder or something like in previous games but no, they just flap around endlessly behind you like some seagull on the beach facing a strong wind. I know technically we only got one Voidcritter but the other ones are just weird too. I can understand some phoenix, fairy, dragon or Sixam owl being in the game but the rest are literally Pokémons.
Final breath is normal sims that drink potions can’t get cursed... Why?! This would have been a perfect way to mess up sims lives?! And now normal sims can only get positive things from drinking potions? That’s so lame and so overpowered.
I am beyond disappointed in the game pack and this has been a horrible year for the sims with Strangerville and um, Island Living, which both lacked in depth and gameplay. Unfortunately, not even a fraction of this will be fixed by EA, so I pray that some talented modder fixes this game pack because let’s face it, modders continue to do it better. I adore this franchise and can’t help but sit here and rant about this mess, and don’t think I’m bashing EA or anything but damn they need to step up their game because they’re throwing dirt on their whole fanbase.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

No one in the notes is debunking this to my satisfaction. I know it’s an insane claim and the sims has nothing to do with whether or not you can write gay men.
However. If this work came out/was set in an era when the sims 3 was already released we can assume that even a “crappy” laptop would not be of the sims 1 era (1999-2004 approx) and therefore would run the sims 1 with absolutely no issues.
Unlocking content is the lightest form of mod in basically all sims games, because it only changes the rules or categorization of an object (how the game reads and reacts to it) versus new meshes being the heaviest form of content, as they add 3D models. I don’t know how heavy exactly the ts1 furniture was especially considering it was all isometric. I would guess pretty light, to be honest. Regardless, what is key to know is that unlocking a roller coaster object already in game would be a mod, and a very small one generally, rather than downloading a roller coaster, which would be somewhat large.
But!! The author of this post seems to discount entirely the possibility that the character is playing sims 2, which is a mistake. Sims 2 had (and still does to some extent) the most robust modding community of any sims game, and the most ambitious.
There was a functional roller coaster on mod the sims in 2007, for reference.
Because the sims 2 was a lighter and better optimized game, while it was never designed particularly to run on laptops, it could run on newer laptops (which might still be considered crappy) especially in the sims 3 era.
We also don’t know why the laptop is considered crappy, it may have just had broken keys or looked like shit or been a model that is cheap, yet internally might have had ample ram.
Regardless, if the sims 3 was released at the time and the laptop was at all new, it would have easily run ts1 with mods, presumably run ts2 with some mods and finally:
If it could boot and run ts3 at all, then again, unlocking an item from one expansion would not be very heavy duty, and the bulk of strain on the laptop would already come from sims 3 being so poorly optimized out of the box, not from one mod unlocking a piece of content that was previously locked to community lots.
I will be taking questions if anyone has any.

Servo - Complete Conversion
by Qahne
Long time no see, I know. I also know I mentioned these were coming soon back when I released my TS4 Servo conversion...back in 2015. This project actually goes back far longer than that; Servo for TS3 was my very first mod, not just for The Sims but for any game, and it's been a learning process the whole time, going through many, many versions since I began in 2011, but I think I finally have it as good as I can, so my endless tweaking comes to a close. So, without further ado, introducing Servo...again!
This is a set of CAS items that can be used to make your ITF PlumBots look like classic TS2 Servos, including their formal outfits and their occult variants (which come in very handy with NRaas' Hybrid mod!). Everything is as recolourable as possible, and the heads and bodies include different stencils and RGB layouts for maximum customisation. In addition to being made recolourable, each CAS item has fully custom specular and bump maps, making them really blend in with the graphical style of TS3 and looking even better than they did in TS2. They also use the reflective PlumBot shader, meaning you get dynamic reflections in the metal and not just a specular highlight. Their orbs also really glow! Just like my TS4 version, these are designed to be mixed and matched between themselves. Unfortunately, they cannot be used with other PlumBot pieces - they're just too different for that. Instead, the torso section contains Servo's entire body and limbs, and the legs and arms sections have been repurposed to hold accessories, like hats and eyelashes! You get four heads: the basic head in male and female; and one with fangs (for vampires and werewolves), also male and female. Both heads include two variants: one with the default Maxis eyes, and another with the fabulous Skelljay eyes! Each has three recolourable channels, plus a fourth channel for lipstick on females. You get three bodies; the basic body, one in a dress, and one in a tuxedo, all recolorable, and the basic body includes two RGB variants - one enabling you to recolour the torso and limbs only, the other letting you recolour the orb and knees too. Additionally, they all have a stencil variant without the black glove.. Additionally, you get a five accessories - an antenna, an antenna with a bow, a set of eyelashes, a warlock hat and a witch hat, again, all fully recolourable, and the witch and warlock hats include three totally different textures each, matching the originals. Because of the way this is set up, you also get a blank arm and a blank leg, to be worn when you don't want an antenna / hat or eyelashes, otherwise the Maxis arms and legs will cause a fair degree of interference. And as a final bonus, you also get a buy mode item, in the form of the deactivated Servo, with three recolourable channels!
Expansion Packs: Into The Future
Download at ModTheSims
While working on this project, I made many small improvements that have been carried over to the older TS4 port, such as better bone assignments, more detailed specular and normal maps, and glowing orbs. An updated version for TS4 is available right now, here , along with an accessory pack including new eyes, eyelashes and accessories . Whichever game you play, I hope you enjoy it with Servo! Since this headcanon is depressing and requires a lot of background information that I may or may not have touched upon in the past, I’m going to be adding a read more so I don’t throw a giant wall of text at you all.
Here’s a little headcanon about why Contessa and Cordelia’s urns are in the master bedroom, as opposed to out in the cemetery with the rest of the ghosts.
Placing Contessa and Cordelia Capp urns in the master bedroom were Consort’s doing, not only because he misses both of them dearly, but also to punish himself since he blames himself for both of their deaths.
Even though there’s nothing in the game’s programming that implies Consort is keeping the urns in there to punish himself, I have added some things in previous essays that led me to interpret things this way.
Cordelia’s Death
Let’s start with Cordelia since the bulk of this revolves more around her than Contessa (who will only get a cursory mention at the very end). I brought up her canon cause of death being due to fire in my “Six Veronaville Tragedies” essay.
In the theory part of that essay, I had this to say about her death:
“…While most of the patrons left the restaurant in a panic [when the fire started], Cordelia, always the kind of person to help others, instead ran off to the kitchen to make sure the staff was okay.
By the time Caliban got outside, he realized his wife was nowhere to be found, and rather than secure his safety, he ran back into the burning restaurant to look for her, despite pleas from Goneril and Regan to wait for help to arrive. After not seeing her in either the dining room or the bathroom, Caliban knew there was only one place he had yet to check, the kitchen. Upon walking into the kitchen, however, he found Cordelia on the floor not too far from the fiery inferno that emerged from the stove. When he saw death’s visage looming above her, his worst fears were realized, and it wasn’t much longer until he too died of smoke inhalation.”
Look at the words I used to describe Cordelia and Caliban’s deaths, “smoke inhalation.” Now, you’re probably wondering just what this has to do with Consort, and I’ll get to that; however, I first want to make a distinction between Cordelia’s death and her husband’s.
The distinction between the deaths two lies the words used to describe the fire. The restaurant was described as “burning” when Caliban realized Cordelia was nowhere to be found; however, when he finds Cordelia in the kitchen, the room was described as a “fiery inferno,” meaning the fire was stronger when he died than when she died.
“And my poor fool is hang'd! No, no, no life!” —King Lear, Act V, Scene iii
The choice to interpret Cordelia’s death in TS2 being due more to the smoke from the fire than the fire itself was not an accident. The reason for this interpretation makes much more sense when taking Shakespeare into account. As for why this is the case, here’s another quote from that same essay, this time about the fate of the Shakespeare character she was named after:
“…[Lear and Cordelia] are sentenced to death for treason. While Lear is able to escape his sentence by killing the executioner, the pardon that would have saved Cordelia arrives too late to stop her death by hanging.”
“If that her breath will mist or stain the stone” —King Lear, Act V, Scene iii
“And thou no breath at all? Thou'lt come no more, Never, never, never, never, never!” —King Lear, Act V, Scene iii
Both deaths involve suffocation in some way, shape, or form. However, to tie these two deaths together, I spent quite a bit of time researching a specific, well-known medical condition that impacts one’s breathing: asthma.
When it comes to the correlation between smoke inhalation and asthma, New York’s State website states:
“Individuals with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma), fetuses, infants, young children, and the elderly may be more vulnerable to the health effects of smoke exposure.”
If you haven’t already guessed, one of my headcanons about Cordelia is that she had mild asthma. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, the smoke from the fire triggered her symptoms before she had a full-on asthma attack, which was not helped by her dropping her inhaler in the dining room during the chaos (which Caliban later found when he was trying to find her).
Ancestry and Asthma
Back when I was working on my “Beginning of the Feud” essay and theory, I realized that I put myself into a bit of a corner when discussing some of the supporting players: the parents of Contessa, Patrizio, and Consort. The reason for this ties into how two of these sims, Scribonia and Octavius Capp, died due to old age despite being adults, and eventually I came to this conclusion:
“…I tend to look at these two and classify their deaths as being due to natural causes. While this might sound similar to death by disease, I believe there is a distinction between the two. In TS2, the diseases that cause death tend to be contagious or acquired from external forces; however, the conditions that I believe could be in play for determining Scribonia and Octavius’ deaths would have been internal and non-communicable, like heart disease or cancer.”
The examples I provided for the non-communicable conditions were the ones I ended up going with when touching upon Scribonia and Octavius’ deaths, the former dying due to cancer, and the latter dying from a heart attack (or a defibrillator malfunction since Octavius’ cause of death is electrocution in TS3).
Scribonia and Octavius are the only sims in this group with canon causes of death, meaning that the player has more room to play around with when interpreting the deaths of Consort’s and Patrizio’s parents. However, for this headcanon, we only need to look at how I previously interpreted the death of Consort’s mother, Andromache, whose death by old age in Greek Mythology is contradictory to how she died as an adult here. As a result, I instead came to this conclusion about her death:
“Andromache also did not live much longer after her husband’s death, as she ended up dying of respiratory failure.”
I will admit that, at the time, I just picked her cause of death out of a metaphorical hat, so there’s not a basis for it anywhere. However, as I thought about it more, I looked up some conditions that fell under that umbrella (asthma being one of them), and things suddenly came together.
The Thebe Family
Part of why Consort blames himself for the deaths of his wife and daughter ties into the reason the Thebe family became extinct in the female line in the first place. Personally speaking, Andromache and Hector only having a son who was unable to carry on the former’s family name is something that always made me raise a few eyebrows. While this probably has more to do with how the family trees tend to be structured among the premade families; however, that doesn’t help things in a narrative sense, so I came up with this instead.
I think Andromache and Hector not having a daughter to carry on the Thebe name wasn’t exactly their choice. Instead, I think they probably considered it a necessity to stop once Consort was born out of fear for Andromache’s health since she, like Cordelia, had issues breathing.
While researching things that could potentially cause asthma, one of the causes that stuck out to me was hormonal changes, specifically that one can develop asthma while pregnant. This is what happened in Andromache’s case. She developed asthma while pregnant with Consort, and the severity of her symptoms combined with the lack of medical assistance she had available to her back then, ended up causing her death before she could see her son get married.
Why Consort Blames Himself
Like Andromache, Cordelia’s asthma came about during one of her pregnancies (her third, to be precise). This, combined with being more susceptible to asthma if the condition ran in the family, is why Consort blames himself for her death. His feelings of guilt were not helped by one of the firefighters finding the inhaler next to Caliban once they found the bodies.
The reason he blames himself for Contessa’s death is pretty self-explanatory since I believe that her death, like King Lear’s, was in large part due to a broken heart.
Even though I covered Contessa’s death in the past, I want to highlight what I said regarding Consort’s reaction to the event in a prior essay:
“Contessa’s widower, Consort, was absolutely beside himself. According to him, Contessa had never been the same after Cordelia died, and no matter how much he tried to console her, she would always talk about wanting to be with her daughter again. Though he knew Contessa was deeply saddened by their daughter’s death, he never in his worst nightmares imagined that the resulting despair would end up claiming her life.”
Final Thoughts
This is a headcanon that I’ve had for a while now, but never really had much of a chance to touch upon before. Part of this is because there are all these little interwoven parts that I needed to get in order, but also because I wanted to put out some shorter, fun headcanons before I began tackling some of my more serious and long-winded ones.
Most of my headcanons have some basis in outside sources, mostly Shakespeare, but there’s some history and mythology when it comes to some of the ones I have for certain ancestors. One of the many reasons why I find Veronaville so fascinating and why I write about it here is because of the variety of sources one can use in interpreting things. Sure, it can be convoluted sometimes, but it also helps in things like character and world-building, two things I greatly enjoy.
I hope to cover more of these bigger headcanons in the future with all of you. They’re not all this depressing, I promise.

Updates of a Rambling Nature
I am hoping to get in game again today and refresh my queue. I think as of now it is empty. While I continue to see an average of 2-3 people per week complaining that either the community is dying or whatnot... I have the exact opposite difficulty and point of view.
I find new TS3 blogs all the time simply through: -Other people re-blogging them -Shout outs -They commented on the post of someone else I follow -They liked or re-blogged one of my posts -They followed me -Etc. etc. etc.
I’ve followed at least 3 new blogs, and refrained from following a dozen others in the last week or so alone.
This post is a little rambly and long, so I’ll put the rest under a read more.
Since I don’t have a ton of free time anymore (Full time paid job, Part time volunteer job), I struggle to keep up with my dash a lot of times. Sometimes I have to choose between playing the game or looking at everything on my dash. I’m constantly bewildered as to how so many people seem to see the TS3 simblr community as dying.
I mean, I sometimes refrain from or stop following blogs that post more than like 3 times a day because I feel it’s too much to add to my feed and I won’t be able to keep up. But not being able to find active blogs, etc. is a problem I’ve never encountered.
In any case, my paid job is going very well. My volunteer job has been a bit rocky this year, and while we are finally on track, absolutely everything is late late late late. What that means for me is that it eats up more of my free time while I try to assist others in meeting deadlines, soothe ruffled feathers, find solutions to things that are simply ‘too’ late, etc.
Anyone who has been following me for a year or so will know that I often go completely dark with only a queue if anything for the entirety of May (and last year April and June as well). It is unfortunately looking like this year I may end up going dark starting in April as well.
We shall see how things go, but this is a forewarning of what may be coming in the near future. On a side note, even if I’m not active at the moment, I will still respond to messages. Asks may get put off until I have time, but I’ll still respond to messages both here on Tumblr and on Discord. (If you want my Discord and haven’t got it, just ask!)
Also, to those of you tagging me for things, I just want to let you know... I’ve been saving re-blogs of the posts you tag me in as drafts. That’s my way of making sure I won’t forget, and can go back and hopefully actually do some of those tags later. When I have time. It’s just free time is increasingly scarce right now...
#updates#life updates#still kinda sims#text post#honestly every time I see someone complain the community is dying#I'm tempted to unfollow them#from my point of view it's thriving and well#seeing that kind of commentary frustrates me#apologies for the mini-rant#this is not aimed at people who are feeling lonesome because their friends have left#that's a different story altogether#but I get super tired of people spouting negativity about the whole community dying#it's not dead#It's not dying#ts3 is alive and well thank you very much#I'll agree that there's not as many creators#so because of that there's not a constant overwhelming flow of 'new'#but I for one am still trying to catch up on the 'old'#we still get nice things#just not as often#I'm okay with this#too much new will just break my game faster

Leslie Fermi for @lemonywaffles‘ Anya
Under the cut because wow is this the longest backstory I’ve ever written for a BC sim?
Leslie spent his whole life in San Myshuno working as a comedian and being a struggling single father. Now that he’s retired and his son Casper no longer needs him, he decided to come back to Brindleton Bay, a place he used to visit every summer when he was a child. Leslie is always cracking jokes to hide how unhappy he’s actually been for years. His wife Joan died shortly after giving birth to their son. She was so young, they had decades to spend together, but it didn’t work out due to her sudden illness. Leslie never stopped missing her.
Leslie tried to give Casper the world, but their relationship didn’t quite survive Casper’s rebellious teenage years. They’re hardly in touch anymore these days, Casper nearly cut his father out of his life. Leslie isn’t sure what exactly he did wrong, but he wishes he could reconcile with Casper. If anything, at least it would mean he could finally meet his own granddaughters Sarah and Nadia in person...
You wouldn’t guess Leslie keeps all of this to himself. Everyone loves him for his funny, easygoing personality. He thought he would never perform again after moving to Brindleton Bay, he planned to spend his days there by fishing (a hobby from his childhood). However, his new friends convinced him they would love to see a show from him. And so, every Thursday, he goes to town and entertains people. What started as a silly gift for his friends became something the whole town is looking forward to...and so is Leslie.
Oh, you might be wondering, why is he signing up for a BC if he still misses his late wife? Well, the moment he saw pictures of Anya, he thought she was beautiful. After reading more about her, he realized he really, really likes her. He felt a little guilty about that, after all, he thought he would never love another woman after Joan, he swore to her that he wouldn’t love another one...and yet, there it was. Don’t tell anyone I told you this, but Leslie actually had a dream where Joan talked to him about this. She told him she’s not upset. She’s been wishing for years for him to move on and be happy again.
And so he did it, he signed up for the BC and he’s ready to feel real happiness again.
Fun Facts:
62 years old
Has slight Italian accent and occasionally curses in Italian
Loves all kinds of hats
Has been obsessed with the ocean since he was a kid
Knows everything about fish
Actually studied to be a marine biologist but then focused on being a comedian instead because uni was hard
Watched The Little Mermaid a million times, can never get bored of it
Also loves Finding Nemo
Learned to use Youtube and Twitch just so he could watch his granddaughter Sarah (16) play games, he’s always excited when she brings her sister Nadia (13) to the stream too
Wishes he could meet them in person but Casper doesn’t want that
(okay I said these would be fun facts...but this is not fun at all)
Sarah actually found Leslie’s address once in her father’s office and she sent him a letter where she told him a lot of things, one of them being her online platforms, and Leslie decided to take a look...and he stayed...and yes he supports her on Twitch, like a lot (that’s what grandparents are for, right? :D)
Apart from Youtube and Twitch, he actually doesn’t know how to use the computer at all and gets terrified when anything weird pops up
It’s cute actually
Last but not least, he loves making other people happy
Creative | Goofball | Loves the Outdoors | Angling Ace
CC: Will be given with the tray files but if there’s anyone who wants to know wcif anything I used on him, let me know and I’ll find it. (I’m just really lazy at the moment.)
It’s interesting how most of my BC sims for ts3 have been females, but for ts4 I seem to enjoy creating the guys more haha. Anyway. I want to give this old man a hug because he deserves one.
TOU: You know the drill. Don’t claim as your own or reupload and don’t change his features. Feel free to change his clothes, hair, use your own defaults etc.
Private download if chosen.

TS3 Freedom’s call Challenge
Here again with new Challenge!
You know I love dystopia-apocalypse-destrucionstyle challanges, so here I am with new one.
I came across few good ones, and I’ve decided to go for this one called FREEDOM’S CALL. I won’t drag much about the rules and stuff, because you know - here it is: RULES. It’s made by glorious MistyDW! I love her story imagination! The backstory is my life.
I have played apocalypse challenge (here) by Phaenoh few times and i wanted something different. When I found Freedom’s call, I literally danced.
And this is the place. I didn’t want to go for the Future world of Oasis Landing becouse you know, I’m getting bored of it. So instead I scrolled the internet for dystopian worlds. Unfortunatelly there aren’t many. But I’ve managed to find one that is perfect and I’ve not played here before (so huraay!)
The world of Cronor by CroNor
So yeah
This gameplay will be different for me in few ways. I will play a story of more then one char/family. According to the rules, player shoud pick the kind of sims he/she plays. I’ve decided to go for my already made chars. But before I introduce the first group of them, here are changes in the plot given by MistyDW.
SETTING: Many years ago, the government began to gradually infringe upon the rights of the populace in the name of “fighting terrorism”. It seemed harmless at first, but as time passed more and more rights were stolen. Approximately ten years ago, the New World Order came into being, a conglomerate of international governments coming together as one universal body in the name of peace. Those governments who would not submit were branded as terrorists and their lands seized and placed under the thumb of the NWO. The newly united government was the final nail to be driven into the coffin of freedom when SINs (otherwise known as Sim Identification Chips) were implemented. Each citizen was implanted with a chip containing a unique identification number. Without one, you couldn’t buy anything, get a loan, have a job, the list goes on. Refusing to accept a SIN made you a criminal and justice was swift and merciless. The face of the NWO is its founding President, Aiden Drake. Many point the finger of blame at President Drake calling him the mastermind of modern slavery. Many more believe him to be the foretold antichrist…of course those who dare to make such accusations publicly are rarely seen again to repeat them. These are indeed dark times and darker are yet to come. Now, in the year 2042, the common man or woman makes few choices about his or her life. Big government decided long ago that citizens were not wise enough to lead their own lives without intervention. You’re told what job you will have, who you will marry, what movies you can watch, what items are acceptable and what is black-listed, and much more.
Furthermore the people who obliged themselves to NWO’s life rules don’t know the whole truth. While their lives are publicly controlled, somewhere else the whole species are being murdered. Once Drake’s people had started to implant SINs they found out there are creatures they didn’t even believe exist. These supernatural creatures pictured a whole new threat for goverment. They have decided to build special camps for them, where they will be studied and experimented on. Experiments confirmed Drake’s predictions - a big thread comes with big powers. A big fraction of supernaturals haven’t survived, only few stayed alive. If it weren’t for their powers, which the NWO wanted to control and use, they’d be already dead.
The supernaturals thought that the Cronor Project was their peace station - they would be away from the people who wanted to murder them - for the exchange of accepting NWO’s rules.
