“Honey…it kind of smells like you had an accident.” She reaches out under the covers and taps the side of his diaper. “You’re going to need me to change you this morning, aren’t you?” When he doesn’t answer, she raises herself up on her elbows to get a good look at his face. His eyes are closed and a little drool has leaked out of his mouth onto his pillow.

“Ohh, still sleeping, huh?” She leans down and kisses him on the cheek, over and over until his eyes flutter open and a dopey smile spreads across his face. “Good morning.” She brushes his hair away from his forehead.

“Hi,” he says sleepily, eyes half-closed. She watches realization slowly dawn on his face as he wakes up. “Did I…did I poop myself in my sleep?”

“I don’t know. Did you go before we fell asleep last night?”

“No…”

“Then it sounds to me like you did. That’s your first solid nighttime accident. Good job.” She kisses his face again, and he feels his stomach flip, maybe from embarrassment, maybe from excitement. “Now get on your back. I’m changing you into another diaper for today. I don’t want you to have another accident and embarrass me while we’re out in public.”
