I have caught up with Knock Knock Boys, and it is a DARLING KEEPER of a show so far (with some stumbles)

Post-travel drama catch-up continues on my front with Knock Knock Boys, which I picked up in part due to my permanent commitment to support the king, Seng Wichai, one of my top three Thai QL actors of all time. We're through episode 8 on this one, and

I LOVE THIS SHOW

and I hope it doesn't falter, I hope, I HOPE!

Highs and lows below. First of all!

This show is not shy about sexuality. Not NC-sex scenes, per se, but sexuality -- the sexualities of the show's characters. This is SO REFRESHING!

Every character is clearly depicted at a different stage of their experience and their physical and emotional readiness for new experiences. I love it. AND, those stages are used wonderfully and clearly to provide context as to how they're behaving vis à vis each other and their environments.

Part of the early fandom controversies around GMMTV's We Are focused on the show's declining to define, clearly, the sexualities of the young men in real-life terms. This is an endemic issue in Thai BLs, and has been since the birth of the television genre; it's also a common presence in university BLs in particular.

(This is why, early in the life-cycle of the Thai BL genre, Make It Right, as a school-based BL, was already so groundbreaking -- because it didn't hesitate to explore gay and queer life boldly. Compare that to SOTUS, which aired after MIR, which took a very deliberate step BACK from "saying gay." The genre has struggled with openly embracing gay themes since its start.)

The thing is, in real life, for MANY people, when you are a part of, or hang with, queer communities, being queer is a HUGE and central part of most conversations, along with sexual readiness, experience, CRUSHES, attractions, everything. Even one's internal hesitations, or maybe even internal homophobia, are up for discussion.

That's why I grab my pom-poms when I watch a show that doesn't shy away from much more realistic engagement, not necessarily about intimacy as a whole, but really more about the communal aspect and acknowledgment that humans are intimate creatures. When a show depicts people in a community -- especially a queer male community like the Knock Knock house -- engaging realistically about the various stages of struggles and acceptance unto themselves and others that they have about their intimate lives, and weaves interesting and coherent stories about those people, it's something, in this still-young genre, to celebrate.

Knock Knock Boys, with a few stumbles, is doing GREAT on this front. Almond is inexperienced, and suffering because of it! He's got an AMAZING friend and suitor in Latte --

who likes, AND wants to support Almond in his growth.

I wanna take a second on Latte, and Jaonine Jiraphat. I love that Jaonine is Bright Vachirawit’s doppleganger (dopplenonger), but also, Latte is kind of like Sarawat's dopplenonger, too. When 2gether was airing four years ago, Bright Vachirawit didn't hesitate to explain publicly that his character, Sarawat, was gay-gay -- again, at GMMTV, which is not a studio that necessarily embraces gay-gay for its characters.

We have the same here for Latte as with Sarawat: Latte is UNABASHED, totally owning and in control of his sexuality, his preferences, and his popularity, all which Almond is paying attention to and learning from. And on top of that, Latte is such an empathic friend, not just to Almond, but to the intimacy student club that he speaks to with Lookpeach. It is a LOVELY storyline of how Latte, feeling comfortable in himself, can use that comfort to help others find themselves. THIS IS BIG, and wonderfully written. And, when Latte pulls back from getting intimate with Almond, because he knows that NEITHER of them are ready, and want it that way -- it was just such a great moment of Latte's awareness and empathy for the both of them. Latte, unless there's a stumble, will be going down in my books as one of the most admirable and openly queer characters I will admire (in my same book as the first openly pansexual homey, Frame from MIR).

I'm also loving the ThanwaPeak storyline, with fiancée Jane doing her thang to get her betrothed un-betrothed. I think the way in which this storyline is written is a bit more choppy: like with so many Japanese BLs that are predicated on endemic miscommunication, I think dropping hints without clarity as to Peak's issues with his family, and Thanwa's unknown struggles with Max, didn't help last week's episode, especially with Thanwa accusing Peak of not truly knowing him -- Thanwa, homey, you need to TALK about your issues with Peak in order for Peak to know them.

That being said, while I don't think I'm the biggest fan of Best Vittawin's acting, I think both Best and Seng are dancing around their characters' hesitations with intrigue and chemistry. Especially Seng: this is not his loudest role as compared to SCOY and War of Y, but the ways in which he can indicate interest in another person with a simple glance and a quiver of a smile is incredible. His acting is on another level, and I think Best may not be living quite up to it, but I can't really blame Best, because Peak as a character is having to figure out SO. MUCH. with a lot going on around him.

I'm looking forward to finally finding out what the exact deal is with Peak running away from Jane and his father, and to finding out whyyyyyy Thanwa would go back to a peeper? AND, was it really Max, not Almond, that leaked the clip?! These are good cliffhangers at this point in a series! These stories have been well-paced, sensible, and told in a sensible order, and we have some big reveals and decisions awaiting us.

This is not a complicated show, but it's a deep one, and it's not shy about telling big stories about growth, homophobia, the economic issues that many gay men face, and what decisions they need to make in order to afford and survive life. I love that this show bridges university life with working life, to tell stories about four young men in very real stages of their lives, being upfront and honest about it. I was not expecting much from this show at all when I first started, but I am LOVING IT, and would highly recommend it up until this point!

I wanna give my 2 cents for the GMMTV 2023 trailer lineup, going in the order they where presented in the live event and with no BL/GL, Lakorn division all together baby

So let's start:

Enigma: I am sucker for cursed schools/supernatural shows, not a big horror fan tho so if the show is able to balance the horror theme I'll be able to enjoy it, as for cast I really like Prim tho with Win I still have some reserves but considering that he is playing a completely different character here I am more open to him, tho I have to add if he is actually a teacher it means he is a lot older than Fa so if there is a romance I won't like it please no teacher/student relationship

A Boss and a Babe: the title is trash, the show semes the basic office drama with the e-sports and youtuber spinn that does not speak much with me, Force and Book have good chemistry but not very exited for this one, tho I hope this is better than Enchante sorry but that show is not great

Find Yourself: I like "noona romances" where the woman is older it's nice when they show that older women can attract younger man, tho romance based lakorn usually bore me, we have Earth and Podd here wich is a plus but I will have to see the show to be able to judje it, I already had a trailer appear good to have the show be not so much

Double Savage: After Not Me series that have crime as a plot spark my interest, and tho I basically understood nothing of the conflict other than a girl was involved, I liked Ohm's and Perth's performance in it, tho Foei being part of it after SH4 let's say he is not on my faves list to say the least

Hidden Agenda: classic university set BL with a plot that seems the mix of 2gether and SIYH(hope it is better cuz this show was not it) tho it intrigues me more than the previous 2, I onestly like Joong and Dunk I think they have potential and I also really like the rest of the cast so I will toon in for this one

23.5:...THIS!!! first GMMTV GL with Milk and Love! I am so exited for this, it also looks so genuenly cute and sweet and they look adorable, tho I would have loved to have another 2 girls as a 2nd couple Gemini and Fourth are indid cute, one of the series I am most exited about

The one with the Thai name: ok onestly this look like a bore fest, also Neo as second lead sindrome?NO😭... tho I will try it cuz this who I am, I have to watch at least the first 3 episodes to make an opinion It could surprise me

Cooking Crush: another one I am EXITED for, first of all OffGun wich is a surprise for real, Neo in general BUT specifically Neo and Gun in a show together, it's a show about cooking and I really enjoy this type of stories, also happy to see Neo and Mark in a very differnt setting compared to OF and as a side couple I am genuinly exited for them and this show

Wednesday Club: ok this is messy, and I don't really understand the plot, all I get is that they are all middle children that started hanging out after 2 almost got arrested, they are supposed friends, and they have rules for theire friendship, I like it tho, I usually really like choral shows from GMMTV, some of theire best lakorns to me are the ones with a lot of protagonists, like 55:15 or P.S. I Hate You, also I really like almost all of the actors in this

Last Twilight: Ok this I'm exited for, I like stories that talk about disabilities, also it is directed by P'Aof wich we know is a verh talented director, also I like Jimmy and Sea they have a sort of confort that fit this typo of stories, I feel like I am really gonna like this differntly to Vice Versa wich disappointed me, also Mark is here!

Loneliness Society: this look estetically good but it feels kinda like your classic romance lakorn, I know it's a remake i have not watched the original one, still like the other ones I will try and watch at least the first 3 episodes when it airs

Only Friends: Ok I literally rewatched the trailer like 20, if not more, times the trailer and saying that I am obsessed is reductive, this is the highlight of 2023 for me and I trust P'Jojo to make a good show, and also all the boys already outdid themselves in just the trailer and First Khaotung and Neo are some of my favourite and this I think is the right project to show Force Book and Marks abilities

Faceless Love: I have the confirmation that straight romances don't really spark my interest😅 seriusly this seems really boring to me sorry but all the het romances does, cuz it always the same story basically, it is only spyced up in the havier dramas wich I like... same 3 episode rule

Dangerous Romance: ok I like this, it has very cool tropes like rich×poor, enemies to lovers, class conflict drama, the whole situation with the brother, the story is cool and has the right amount of angst, the acting is very good by the trailer(expected from this 2) I am still a bit pissed at both of them, Perth more considering the LBC incident, but I wanna give this show a try cuz the plot is what I am interested about, also this 2 seems to have good chemistry, also my boys Pawin an Papang and my girl View are here so it's a plus

Jungle: Oh for fuck sake why is there no english subtitles!!! and I don't speak any of the subs languages!!! Ok so they are all playboys and all know each other? Mix is a bartender and a hunter? I have no idea what the plot is only that it's a big messy one... until we get subtitles I will just go by visuals and they look amazing, also Mix and Nanon in the same show!!! also Pat my Wife!

Cherry Magic 30: we have no trailer and considering that I still have to watch the og I will refrain from expressing any opinion NEXT!

Midnight Museum: Oh this is intriguing! a victorian inspired supernatural/horror set in a cursed? museum with maybe unded creatures it is speaking to my supernatural/fantasy/heart with GUN? and Ploy and Namtam? like sign me up!

Our Skyy 2: special episodes of some of our favourite couples from BL? YES PLEASE! I am exited for AkkAye, PatPran, PhupaTian the most, depending on NLMG I will see about PondPhuwin(happy they didn't chose FUTS) the others I will watch but are less interesting to me

Beauty Newbie: Not the webtoon collaboration😅 that made me laugh not donna lie it was so unexpected, and I even know it was based on a webtoon! still this is really similar to True Beauty, also Win playing Win again... this stories based on makeup, surgery beauty that try to give a lesson on "real beauty" with only pretty actors are not my thing I will probably not watch this, wich saddens me cuz I really like Fha and this is her only project

the last one is the Bright movie but since we will probably never see it I'll skip it

The problem with GMMTV shows

Many, many Thai BLs were published and lauched by GMMTV and some of these shows are probably the most popular BLs in the genre, although other ones like ITSAY also get a lot of attention these days. GMMTV definetly is a monopole when it comes to producing such content because they produce the most BLs per year. There's always a new fandom rising in the background and that's not necessarily a bad thing but everyone knows by now what to expect from a GMMTV show and these expectations are pretty low. At least my expectations have sunken to zero when it comes to acting and I'm already impressed if the kiss looks real or if they actually cry some tears. I know, crying is hard and I find it unfair they don't even try to change the script, so the actors won't have such a hard time. I think the worst crying I have seen so far would be Tine in 2gether when he thought Sarawat was in love with that girl. Left alone that his reason doesn't make sense storywise, his crying was aweful and I actually skipped this scene because I was cringing so much.

Anyway, back to my topic.

Honestly, I have to give GMMTV credit for their marketing office because the marketing and promotion of new shows is pretty good. They publish posters, drop a cute trailer and give us a shipping to wait for. Although the design of the posters is not good and the trailers don't match the show's actual story, we are willing to wait. The bad design doesn't leave our minds and we are curious what new low quality show will be published. GMMTV knows pretty well, we all make fun of the shows and don't find them good but watch them nevertheless. That's how they make their money.

I can't help but wonder if the actors sign binding contracts or not because every one of them has at least more than one GMMTV project going on. Mix for example is in atoats, a short movie and in futs. Earth was already seen in Kiss me again, then atoats and this short movie. I find this very suspicious.

Now, lets get to the low quality of all the GMMTV shows. They really mastered their strategy. First, they create a world only revolving around the main couple, so we get a lot of screentime and cute moments of them. Second, the character traits and backstories look interesting at first, catching our attention. Third, the characters are pretty flat, so everybody can somehow relate to them. Fourth, the world these characters live in is simple and the less we see of it the better, because then we can project ourselves into it. Fifth, create a plot that looks interesting from afar and then let it play out in the most passionless way but everybody watches anyway because they want to see the happy ending.

In all these BLs the dialogues, story and acting is not really on point. It is average, but they try to cover it up with jokes, sound effects and cliffhangers to make you believe you had a good time, so you go back the next week and watch the new epsiode.

Here three examples with which I'm gonna explain how the stories are created.

Fish upon the sky - the beginning

I only started watching this show because of the title. It contains a metaphor we don't know the meaning of but we sure know it has a nice vibe and probably a deeper meaning between the two main leads. It seems like a private thing only the these two understand. In general, this metaphor is kind of cute, I have to say. This whole "fish upon the sky" vs "star in the ocean" thing, they got me there. But the rest and the way it plays out is boring.

In the trailer, only these scenes with the metaphor and deep talks were cut together, so we thought this whole show would have that vibe and I still hope but after this 8th episode my expectations nearly vanished.

So, in the first two episodes, the characters are introduced alongside the problems and relationship they have. Thank God, Pi doesn't have friends, so he can have more screentime and not even more people have had to be casted, right? No, because friendgroups make more clear what kind of person the protagonist is, but okay, he interacts with his brother instead. Problem is, Duean is - how do I put this - aweful. He is terrible and only exists for the jokes. So, no deep conversation there. We get nothing from Pi. His character is build up and within the first two episodes we know his character completly because GMMTV characters are designed as simple as possible, so you won't have a hard time understanding them and their actions. You don't have to analyze to get them. This leads to inconsistency and plot holes later on.

During these two episodes, the most story happens apparently. So, we think as much will happen later on, but no, this is GMMTV. But since we're already invested because of the simple world and relatable characters, we don't stop watching every week.

Tonhon Chonlatee - the middle part

I guess this show is the perfect example of catching us with an okay story and then letting our hopes drop at an instant. This ending showed how you don't do it. But okay, we're not talking about the ending here. It's about the middle part.

This is the main problem with GMMTV shows. Nothing happens in the middle part and I guess Tonhon Chonlatee is the perfect example for that.

We know Chon has a crush on Ton since they were little kids and he gets super excited when Ton shows up again. Sadly, he turns out to be pretty homophobic. Okay, that is a conflict I can understand. But the thing is, the characters don't have another story apart from that. They don't grow. They don't change their mind. That just happens at the very end. Tonhon is introduced as homophobic and stays homophobic during the whole middle part. Not many moments take place and he doesn't seem to regret what he says against the LGBTQ-community. There's no confrontation to raise my excitement. The show goes on with no real input.

This is something all these shows suffer from. The middle part is very poor and they don't even try.

A tale of a thousand stars - the end

Okay, this example is based on my upopular opinion and wish for a bittersweet ending because I still believe this ending didn't fit.

This show wasn't as boring as the other two examples but it still wasn't great. After a boring middle part, we get a lot of drama until they finally get their happy ending. The problem with atoats was Tian suffering the whole time and without a detailed explaination why. Maybe I missed something but I think they could've gotten more into this idea with him living with another heart inside but instead they chose to give us a bunch of cuteness between Tian and Phupha and Tian and the kids.

In the end, Tian tells everyone that Torfun is dead and he cries a lot because Phupha totally overracts. There's a bunch of crying and I was sitting here still not getting it. Why is it such a bad thing he has her heart? Why is it such a burden? Still, the explaination in the middle part was missing. The inconsitency and plot holes I mentioned earlier are showing up and make the ending illogical, rushed and forced.

Outro

They just threw the drama away and came up with a solution to give them a happy ending to let us believe we had such a good time because we got what we wanted and what we've all been waiting for.

GMMTV knows we expect a happy ending and just hang on until we get it. That's why I went behind my back and continued futs even though I was extremly mad about the racism. Because I know, PiMork will have a happy ending and I'm curious hownit will play out. The middle part is awefully boring but I can't stop wondering. That's probably the essential part of GMMTV's strategy. They create boring shows which are compelling nevertheless.

Anyway, this is just my opinion on what I saw of GMMTV so far. Feel free to dicuss. Maybe someone of you has an answer to my questions about atoats...

Fish Upon the Sky ep 2 thoughts/reaction

we love some good 'ol dumbasses falling in love

pi really has no clue the effect he has on mork throughout the whole episode and it's hilarious

mork being lowkey insulted when pi said no one would want to give him mouth to mouth

poor mork, he's trying so hard

I also like that I can tell that mork genuinely wants to be friends with pi, and not as a ploy to start a relationship but he just wants to be closer to the person he likes and be able to hang out and talk even if it's not in a romantic context

I love the way the duenmeen story is framed as like a side story, it's just very different and fun and allows them to do some fun things with the voice over and breaking the 4th wall

the way i want duen's story to develop is he starts developing feelings and is aware of those feelings and is super upset about it like "yeah i like you, yeah i'm gonna date you, but i'm not gonna be happy about it" (but secretly he is happy about it) (and i mean this in a humorous way, not an angsty way)

i don't think pi will find out his texting friend is mork anytime soon, it's going to be used later on once pi fully trusts mork then pi will feel betrayed and it'll be a full angsty plotline

that next ep preview tho, how am i supposed to stop shipping nanmorkpi when nan is like that?

anyway, good episode, i really really like this series so far and i hope it stays that way, I love both of the couples and look forward to their development, and as much as I loved atots, it's kinda nice to have a cracky series again

Y/n didn’t watch Taeyong on purpose. At least, he didn’t the first time.

Typing away at his essay, y/n glanced at the notes on his desk every so often. There was something about studying in the library late at night that the third-year med student enjoyed. Everything felt still, and he could focus on his work - and the music he was listening to. Pausing his progress to search for a book he needed, his fingers brushed along the spines of the books absentmindedly, he snapped back to reality when he bumped into someone. 

“Oh, I’m sorry were you looking for a certain book?” Taeyong smiled, finding himself amused at y/n’s flustered apology. Shaking his head, he offered to help find the book y/n was looking for, which was gladly accepted. The faster y/n could find his book, the better. The pair looking for the textbook, y/n couldn’t help but watch Taeyong - the university’s ‘pretty boy’; peach pink hair, bright eyes and his iconic soft denim style. Shaking his head when he realised that he was staring, y/n focused on finding the book.

Finishing the essay a few hours later, y/n saved the document and gathered his things, ready to get some well-earned sleep. Heading out, the third-year student was joined by Taeyong, who had been humming something or other under his breath. He hadn’t already left? Y/n thought the popular boy had already gone back to his room, 

“Taeyong-ssi, I didn’t realise you were still here - are you heading to the dorms?” Turning to y/n, the male in question nodded, putting his headphones around his neck in exchange for ear warmers. Y/n was heading in the same direction, so naturally, it made sense to the par of them to walk there together. Little in the way of conversation being made, y/n arrived at his door first, waving a short goodbye to his companion before heading inside. However, he couldn’t help but watch as Taeyong walked away, something unidentifiable playing on his curiosity.

Second time’s no mistake, that’s for sure.

Sitting in the cafeteria with a book in hand, y/n’s focus was mainly undisturbed, until he heard Taeyong’s name called. Looking up, he recognised the voice as Johnny’s, but again, he found himself watching Taeyong. They were only a few tables apart, but the stars in Taeyong’s eyes were more than clear, and y/n had started getting lost in them. And of course, his friends found it amusing when the bookworm didn’t respond to a thing they were saying.

“Y/n! Are you listening?” Changkyun laughed, waving his hand in front of y/n’s eyes. Looking over confused, y/n raised an eyebrow when his table started to laugh amongst themselves, murmurs here and there.

“What, what were we talking about? I wasn’t paying attention.” Rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish smile, y/n’s ears flashed a shade of pink. Sighing, Taehyung returned to what he was was talking about, which happened to be his latest art piece. Trying his hardest to listen to the topic of conversation - he really did try - y/n’s mind wouldn’t stop; Taeyong looked perfect, and his smile was imprinted in y/n’s imagination. What if he could make him smile like that?

No, that wouldn’t happen, would it?

By this point, y/n was certain that he had something for the pretty boy he watched everyday. There had to be a reason why his heart wouldn’t rest whenever Taeyong came to mind, right? He would confess, but the timing had to be right, and it wasn’t the right time yet. Not when helping his seniors’ hang up banners and he had to keep steady on the ladder. And just as it happened, y/n was distracted for a second too long, his head hitting the ground hard only moments later. Vision blurry, the last thing y/n saw before he passed out was Taeyong calling for help, and his seniors making sure he wasn’t bleeding out.

Waking up in the infirmary with the sun still high that afternoon, y/n got up with a groan. His head was throbbing and the glare of the sun hitting his face hurt his eyes. Rushing to close the curtains, Taeyong walked over to the injured male and helped him sit up, taking a seat on the edge of the bed.

“Y/n, are you okay? You hit your head pretty-”

“I have feelings for you.” Blurting out his confession, y/n wished - by some miracle - that he could reverse time. Embarrassed and very much humiliated by what he thought was a rejection, y/n looked down, his hands suddenly more interesting than talking to Lee Taeyong. Clenching his fists as he waited to hear a response, the lovestruck third-year raised his eyebrow when his crush slowly opened his hands, a simple hum filling the silence.

“You’ll hurt yourself if you keep doing that, you know?” Saying nothing about whether he had accepted or rejected y/n’s feelings, Taeyong went about getting y/n some painkillers and water. Judging by how hard he fell, he’d be out of class for a while.

Y/n and Taeyong had started spending more and more time together - and as a result so had their friendship groups - but y/n had yet to get a response to his flash confession. And it had been a week already. Chatting amongst themselves, they stopped when a group of what looked like first years approaching their table. One of the girls stepping forward with some encouragement from her friends, she blushed heavily, taking a breath before she spoke.

“Y/n sunbae, I like you. Could I have your-” Stepping up and taking y/n’s hand with a glare directed at the first year, Taeyong spoke up,

“I’m sorry, but he’s already taken,” everyone - y/n included - watching Taeyong with wide eyes, he continued, “he’s my boyfriend.”

“What?” Y/n blinked, confused and hurriedly apologising as Taeyong pulled him aside and away from everyone else. Watching him, y/n’s mind was racing a mile a minute. Did Taeyong just say what he thought he just said. He was his boyfriend? When they had finally stopped walking, y/n let go of Taeyong’s - or apparently, his boyfriend’s - hand, in need of some answers.

“Taeyong, what was that just now? Your boyfriend?” Y/n asked, waiting on a response. He needed to make sense of what just happened.

“I should have told you earlier huh? I accepted your confession I just - didn’t know how to tell you without embarrassing you.” Taeyong admitted, looking the other way before looking back. “Well?”

“This means we’re together, right..?”

“Yep, that sounds about right.” A smile forming on y/n’s face, he felt that familiar butterflies-in-your-stomach, but he could put it to the side, at least. Gently reaching for a hug, y/n rest his head on Taeyong’s shoulder, his mind at ease.

Maybe falling in love wasn’t so foolish after all.

1. Your all-time favorite bl and why: 

Not exactly BL, but I’d have to say What Did You Eat Yesterday? It’s such a comforting show to watch, and because each episode is relatively independent, it’s easier to get my friends to check it out when they hang out with me. Most BLs are a long arc to the couple(s) getting together, so you can’t get someone hooked with a single 22 minute episode. Also, I get a little tired of stories of people getting together. As I get older, I find myself more drawn to stories about people staying together. Kenji and Shiro are aspirational for me in that regard.

More BL in general: This is hard...but it’s probably gonna be... I want to say Bad Buddy, but it’s fresh... Probably... Gameboys? I love Cairo and Gavreel so much, and they feel so real to me sometimes.

2. That one bl that scarred you for life: 

I want to say History 3: Make Our Days Count. We were all blindsided and that hurt. I’ve really never recovered from it, and it made me leery to even watch History 4 (still haven’t finished).

4. If you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be? 

There are a lot of sad things I’d change, but I honestly think I’d change Green from 2gether. I was so nervous at the beginning of 2gether that he’d always be the butt of the joke, and I didn’t like that his relationship was functionally abusive. I want to see more solidarity with femme characters in BL, so I’d like to see Green retooled into a new friend and ally of Tine’s early on instead.

5. That one bl you detest (don’t hold back): 

Do I have to have finished it? I generally avoid incest BL, and I avoid heavy noncon. I will not watch Th*rnT*pe. Honestly, though, I’m really just not that harsh on BL. If I don’t like it, I usually just walk away. I probably had the worst experience watching Love By Chance 2, but I also am currently having a terrible time watching Paint With Love.

Ohm realised his feelings long before he had realised Fong had a crush on Tine and even longer before he knew that Tine and Sarawat had actually fallen in love with one another instead of just faking their relationship for Tine's benefit. He, of course, never told anyone about it. He even tried to acknowledge it as little as possible to himself.

With his friends, he focused only on his attraction to girls, often saying dumb things he later regretted but it helped him not to think about Fong so much. The thoughts always lingered in his mind but he hoped that eventually, he'd get over it. Then he realized that Fong wasn't straight either and it gave him hope. Hope that crushed as soon as it came because what Fong was to him, Tine was to Fong.

They were in high school then but he hadn't confronted Fong about the crush until college. He waited until they were alone, Tine busy chasing Sarawat around and Phuak busy chasing girls.

"Hey." He walked into Fong's room and Fong waved at him from his position on the bed, clearly playing a video game. He laid down next to him, staring at the ceiling for a while, the only sound in the room coming from Fong's phone. After a while, he exited the game and sat up, looking down at Ohm in worry.

"Are you ok?" Ohm sighed and moved up to sit with his back pressed against the headboard. He locked eyes with Fong and stared for a moment too long before looking away and deciding to ask without beating around the bush.

"Do you like Tine?" He watched as Fong looked away, gulping before he looked back at Ohm with a smile, shaking his head.

"Don't be ridiculous."

"Fong, you can be honest with me. I see the way you look at him…" Ohm pointed out, thinking about the moments he caught Fong's longing expressions. It doesn't help that he knows he'd miss them if he hadn't been focusing on Fong as much as he has. "...it's like when I-...uhm watch romantic movies. That kind of feel."

His heart started beating faster as he realised what almost slipped up but Fong, luckily, didn't think much of it.

"You watch romantic movies?" Fong asked, joining him against the headboard. Their shoulders were pressed together and Ohm had to look away, the mood suddenly feeling more intense. He almost missed Fong's words, too wrapped up in his mind. He shouldn't be thinking much of it and yet a mere shoulder touch made him spiral. The repressed feelings weren't as weak as he thought, it seems. "But yeah, you're right."

"Listen, a little rom-com doesn't hurt no one." He joked, in hopes to ease the situation and he was glad to hear Fong's laugh. "When did it start?"

"3rd year of high school…we had a sleepover because we had to do a project together and I guess just something clicked and well…here we are." Fong sighed and closed his eyes. "I know I don't have a chance but it's hard to let go."

"I get it." For Ohm it was the 2nd grade, the day where him and Fong were running late and decided to skip first class of the day, knowing they were going to be in trouble nevertheless but this way, with full stomachs at least. They had never spent time alone before, there was always at least one person along with them. It made Ohm see Fong differently and it stayed like that until this day.

"But you always get the girls." Fong said, referring to Ohm's exs. Girls, Ohm thought.

"Everyone meets someone they can't have." He turned to look at Fong, their heads not that far away. Ohm could hear his heartbeat in his ears as they kept staring. He hadn't even realized that he moved in a tiny bit when the ringing of his phone startled both of them. His arms were shaking as he picked up his phone and he really hoped that his voice was in better shape.

"Yeah?" He heard muffled noise before Tine spoke.

"Finally! Is Fong with you? He's not answering his phone." Ohm took a quick glance at Fong before answering.

"I'm in his dorm. Want me to give him the phone?" He could see Fong looking at him as he waited for the answer.

"No, just come to the cafeteria and check the messages in the group chat. Both of you." Tine said before hanging up, not waiting for an answer.

"What happened?" Fong asked as Ohm looked at his notifications. He had forgotten he had muted their group chat last week when they were teasing him.

"We need to check the messages and join Tine in the cafeteria." He said as he got up. "Oh and he called you apparently."

"Well whoops, my phone's on mute." Fong checked the messages as he walked to put his shoes, Ohm waiting in the hallway. "If he keeps this up, Sarawat might kill him."

"I'm surprised he hasn't already considering he had broken his phone." Ohm commented, laughing as he remembered Tine telling the story.

"Who knows what's he's thinking." Fong said as he locked the doors. "But if anything, Tine's lucky. He'll probably get Sarawat to warm up to him."

"True." He's also lucky to be in your heart.

Being the only one to know Fong's secret, Ohm and his friendship grew closer. It was both good and a bad thing for Ohm, he was lucky he got to spend more time with him but the part of the brain that liked him got louder and louder every day. The feelings he repressed for so long had to be accepted. Unfortunately, that also meant that the pain of knowing he'll probably never have him also got harder.

When Tine had fell for Sarawat, Ohm knew. He also knew that Fong knew. They were also pretty sure Phuak knew too but he never spoke up about it. Tine would tell them eventually. Or so they thought, the reveal went a bit differently than expected.

"They're actually pretty cute together." Fong commented as they walked over to their dorm complex. It was already nighttime and there wasn't many people around.

"Mhm." He turned to Fong who had a small smile on his lips. "Are you ok?"

"I'm happy for him. I mean, it'll take a bit more time to truly get over him but I'm doing ok." Fong explained. "Actually, I've realised that it wasn't as intense as before for a while."

"How come?" Ohm asked as he held the door for Fong before they continued up the stairs.

"My mind has been occupied otherwise." He met Fong's eyes who watched him with a small smile. While his brain tried to process what it could mean, he didn't watch where he was going and tripped over one step. Luckily he was the one walking next to the railing so he managed to caught himself.

"I'm good, I'm good." He said as he straightened himself and climbed the rest. Fong's room was one floor lower than his so they soon stopped in front of his door. "Your stop. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Wait…do you want to sleep over?" Fong asked, playing with his keys. "We can even watch a rom-com."

Ohm smiled at his joke and nodded.

"Let me just go grab my pajamas and I'll be right there." He pointed up as he already started walking backwards towards the stairs.

The risk it took to blossom (Part 1)

Pairing : Sarawat / Tine (2gether the series) 

Summary : Five times someone talked Tine through his self-doubt and helped him see his worth, and the one time he didn't need them to. Chapter : 1/6 

Next chapters : 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 Notes : Because the idea of an insecure Tine has been in my head for the past couple of weeks now, I just wanted a chance to explore that a little more, and for our boy to learn to see his self-worth. So I guess this is my attempt at that !  I’ll post one part a day until Friday’s episode.

“I’m sorry, but the idea that the government chose this solution to implement at the time because it was the only one available to them is simply preposterous. I understand it was a different time, but I find the mere concept of it to be completely unfathomable, and I frankly don’t understand how you can even entertain this idea,” argues Marc, and Tine… well. Tine just wants to get out of there, to be honest.

Tine and Sarawat had been eating lunch at the cafeteria, enjoying a quiet meal before they were supposed to make their way back to Tine’s dorm room to hang out with Type and Man who were going to join them there directly, when a guy in Sarawat’s Political History class had stopped by and started to talk about their latest lesson with Sarawat, ignoring Tine completely in the process.

He doesn’t know exactly when he completely lost track of the conversation, but all Tine is hearing now are words like ‘preposterous’ and ‘unfathomable’, and he frankly just wants to go home, where he can have regular conversations with regular people and not feel so dumb all of a sudden. 

“That’s not what I’m saying,” Sarawat argues back, rolling his eyes at the other boy. “I’m just saying that you can’t simply overlook the historical context at the time to make your argument fit better. Obviously, it’s going to impact whatever decisions were being made at the time and pretending that it’s not the case is just greatly oversimplifying the issue.”

Marc opens his mouth, probably to argue back with a bunch of words that Tine doesn’t know again, but he decides to intervene before the boy gets a chance to. 

“Wat, I’m going to start heading up to my room so that I can let Type and Man in without them having to wait too long for us. Are you okay to join us later ?” he asks his boyfriend.

Sarawat turns towards Tine at the interruption and smiles softly at him.

“Yeah, I’ll join you guys as soon as we’re done here,” he answers back, prompting Tine to smile at him in answer, before getting up to make his leave, Marc’s voice still audible in the background.

As he is walking towards his bedroom, Tine can’t stop his thoughts from going back to the conversation. He knew Sarawat was smart, of course, but he hadn’t realized that Sarawat spent his days talking with people like that. If those are the conversations he has during the day, what must it feel like when he meets up with Tine. Does he have to constantly dumb himself down for Tine ? Does he even truly enjoy talking with him ? 

Deep in thought, Tine reaches his dorm room quicker than he would have thought and finds his brother, sitting on the floor in front of it. 

“Sorry for making you wait. Where’s Man ?” he asks his brother, as Type gets up and looks at him intently.

“He got caught up on an essay and will join us as soon as he’s done,” he says in answer as both brothers make their way into the bedroom, Tine putting his bag down on his bed before sitting on it with a sigh.

“What’s wrong ?” asks Type, clearly being able to read his brother enough to know something is bothering him.

“Do you ever have these moments where you are suddenly reminded of how stupid you actually are ?” Tine asks in a small voice, and Type makes his way towards the bed, seating himself next to his brother and turning towards him.

“What are you talking about ? You’re not stupid,” he answers back with a frown.

“A guy from one of Sarawat’s classes stopped by while we were having lunch, and they started talking about one of their lessons and I swear I had no idea what they were even talking about half of the time.”

“Well you’re not a Political Science student Tine, you not being to understand everything they were saying makes sense,” his brother tries to reassure him, but Tine cuts him off.

“That’s not it Type though. I’m not even talking about the Political aspect of it..., This guy was talking and I swear I couldn’t even understand a third of the words that were coming out his mouth !” explains Tine, distress clear in the way he keeps running his hands through his hair, almost pulling. “Like what is Sarawat even doing with a dumb guy like me ? I certainly can’t hold conversations like those with him.”

“Please don’t speak of yourself that way. I really hate it when you do,” his brother whispers, frown getting deeper and worry pooling in his eyes. “You’re not dumb Tine. You know so much about different subjects, you’re curious and you know all these tidbits of information about the various interests you have. So you don’t know all the fancy words this guy was using ? That doesn’t mean anything. You got into this university to study law Tine. Obviously, you’re smarter than you give yourself credit for.”

Tine sighs deeper at his brother’s words. Intellectually, he knows that what Type is saying is probably true. It’s just not what it feels like and Tine just hates his brain sometimes.

“What’s bringing this on Tine ?” his brother asks, one hand reaching towards his shoulder to turn his brother towards him.

“I just don’t want Sarawat to ever feel like he settled with me. He could have been with any of those guys and half of the university has to be pining after him, judging by his fan club. I just don’t want him to get…” Tine starts to explain, voice wavering in the middle of his sentence.

“Bored ?”  prompts his brother, and Tine just nods his head in answer. “Tine, I swear I’ve never seen someone be as in love with another person the way Sarawat is with you. And the only person I’ve seen come close to that is how you feel towards him. And you think he’s bored ? You guys have so much in common ! You’re not the same people and you’re bound to have different interests, but you were friends before you even started dating and you talk so much. About everything. Of course, Sarawat isn’t bored. You know he loves spending time with you, he was in love for you months before you even got together !”

Tine nods his head in answer, recognizing that his brother does have a point. Even before they got together, him and Sarawat would often get lost into these deep discussions about various subjects, and Sarawat certainly never looked bored, at least.

“I know you don’t see yourself very clearly sometimes Tine,” his brother continues. “But I can promise Sarawat doesn’t think you’re stupid. And I know for sure that he doesn’t feel like he settled with you. Going by the look of adoration he gets every single time he looks at you, I’d say the idea that he could have settled never even crossed his mind.”

At those words, Type puts a hand around Tine’s shoulder and brings him closer, Tine resting his head on his shoulder.

The moment is interrupted a couple minutes later when Tine hears his door open. He lifts his head up from his brother’s shoulder, just in time to see Sarawat make his way into the room and smile towards the both of them.

“Hi Type,” he says, greeting the other boy, before he bends forward and takes Tine’s face in both of his hands to kiss him soundly.

“What was that for ?” asks Tine when he pulls away, not used to Sarawat being this forward in front of other people.

“This was a thank you. For giving me the perfect excuse to escape this conversation. Because god… I hate that pompous ass,” he says with a shake of his head, before sitting down in Tine’s desk chair. 

“Really ?” asks Tine in surprise. 

“God, yes,” he confirms, before turning towards Type to explain. “You know the type of people that will like, purposefully use all those fancy words of vocabulary to make themselves look smarter, when in reality what they’re actually saying makes no sense whatsoever ? Yeah. That’s Marc to a T.”

“You don’t say,” says Type, throwing Tine a knowing look.

“Seriously, I can’t take it with guys like him. Look at Tine, for instance ! He’s obviously smart and he studies law, yet he doesn’t feel like he has to walk around talking like a freaking encyclopedia all the time,” he says with an eye roll, and obviously still worked up about his conversation with Marc.

At these words, the uneasiness that has been pooling in Tine’s stomach since the conversation earlier in the day starts receding, and he feels a wave of relief rush through him.

Not saying anything in answer, Tine gets up from the bed and makes his way towards the desk, bending forward to place a gentle kiss on Sarawat’s lips. 

When he pulls back, Sarawat looks at him with a small smile. 

“Not that I’m complaining, but what did I do to deserve this ?” he asks with a teasing smile, and Tine just shakes his head and smiles at Sarawat in answer, no longer wanting to dwell on the subject.

When he turns back around towards his brother, Type is watching them with a fond look. He lifts an eyebrow and looks at his brother with a smirk.

The “See ? I told you so,” is left unsaid, but Tine hears it loud and clear anyway. And frankly, he’s never been happier for his brother to be right about something.

I’m Always Here

A/N: I finally sat down and focused on writing XD I am so filled with to the brim with feels from 2Gether, Why R U and then with My Engineer today XD Anyways, this prompt was requested by @bererjs​!! I really hope you like it and I apologize it took a bit to get out! <3

Summary: After a long day of cheer leading practice, Tine gets back to the condo and wants nothing to do but sleep. He gets to do this until Sarawat comes back and treats him to a nice bath and a gives him the self-care time he desperately craves.

Tine could not believe how exhausted it was. Words cannot describe how tired and achy his body was as he climbed the stairs to his and Sarawat’s condo, just wanting to lay down on the mattress and forget that the world around him existed. Dropping his messenger bag as soon as he made it to the top,  Tine couldn’t bother with hanging it in its proper place as he face planted on the bed, burying his face in Sarawat’s pillow, the leftover scent of his boyfriend’s shampoo comforting him somewhat as he took a deep breath in. Sarawat had to be at his practice for CTRL S, so Tine knew that he wouldn’t be home until later in the evening. Feeling a yawn contract him, Tine nuzzled his face deeper in his boyfriend’s pillow and sighed, pulling the blanket that was strewn messily on the mattress over himself, not minding the fact that both of them had forgotten to make the bed that morning before they left for their classes. 

“Why did I decide to sign up for cheerleading again?” Tine asked himself, his voice quiet in the empty room as he felt himself beginning to doze off. Letting his eyes flutter close, Tine yawned once more before he felt his consciousness leave him. He had no idea how long he was out for, but when the sound of the condo door opening and someone calling his name vaguely appeared in his sleepy state of mind, Tine chose to ignore it until footsteps climbed the stairs and a soft chuckle was heard. Opening his heavy eyelids, Tine moved his face out of the pillow and met Sarawat’s amused gaze, his own eyes half-lidded as his foggy mind tried to comprehend what he was seeing. “Sarawat…? Why aren’t you at practice...I didn’t think you’d be home this soon.”

“Tine, do you realize what time it is? Look out the window,” Sarawat sighed fondly, jutting his chin towards the window that still had its curtains open. Rubbing his eyes, Tine moved his gaze from his boyfriend to the open window that was displaying the beautiful colors of the sunset, decorating the sky in purple, orange and yellow hues. Staring at it for a moment longer, Tine scratched the back of his neck as it finally registered how late in the evening it truly was. He...must’ve fallen asleep. Sheepishly smiling, Tine turned his attention back to Sarawat, who seemed like he was waiting for the moment Tine understood the situation. “Never mind that, are you okay? You look exhausted even though you’ve slept for a couple hours.”

Letting out a hum, Tine turned his eyes towards the blanket he was covering up with, playing with a loose thread as he thought about how he should answer his boyfriend’s question. Should he tell him the truth about how he was aching all over, or should he lie and say that he was fine. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Tine didn’t get a chance to think that much longer as Sarawat made his way over to him and sat down in front of him, reaching out so he could lift his boyfriend’s chin with a soft touch. Letting their eyes meet, Tine knew that he couldn’t lie to Sarawat so with a sigh, he leaned forward and fell into Sarawat, burying his face in his shoulder as he shyly wrapped his arms around his waist, just wanting to be close to his boyfriend’s warm body. Blinking as this happened, Sarawat bit back a happy noise before he wrapped his arms around Tine’s shoulder, pulling him closer until they were practically flushed together, their chests pressed together so they could feel every breath the other made. Nuzzling his face into Sarawat’s neck, Tine mumbled about his day and how tiring the cheerleading practice was, telling his boyfriend how much his body ached all over. Letting out a concerned hum, Sarawat rubbed his hand around Tine’s back before he threaded it into his boyfriend’s hair, smiling softly when he felt Tine fully relax, his body growing heavier against his own. 

“Come on. Let me run you a bath...do you want any bath oils added to the water?” Sarawat asked softly, pulling away from the hug so he could help his boyfriend up, keeping his arms around Tine until they were both standing up. Leaning into Sarawat, Tine mumbled something about lavender and vanilla oils that had Sarawat snort. Of course it had to be something with vanilla, it was Tine’s favorite scent after all. Nodding softly, Sarawat kept his arms around Tine’s shoulders as he led him towards the bathroom, shutting the door behind him as he sat his boyfriend on the toilet, rubbing his fingers through his hair as he backed up, getting ready to set up the bath. Watching Sarawat prepare the water for him, Tine leaned back against the toilet and yawned, not realizing his eyes fluttered shut until a hand cupped his cheek softly and a kiss to his forehead made his eyes open again. “Come on, Sleepy Head. The bath is ready.”

“Sarawat...stay with me?” Tine whispered softly, keeping his eyes on his boyfriend as Sarawat paused like he was taking in what Tine had asked him. Letting a smile rise on his face, Sarawat nodded and moved back so Tine could stand, removing his shirt before he turned to look at his boyfriend, who was watching him intently. Letting out a huff, Tine whined something about privacy that made Sarawat snicker before he turned around, giving Tine a bit of decency as he stripped out of his pants and dropped himself in the hot water, letting out a contented sigh as his tired body relaxed freely into the warmth. Hearing the bath water hit the sides of the tub, Sarawat turned back around and settled himself at the wall of the tub, laying his chin on his arms as he stared at Tine. “Thanks for this...it feels nice to soak like this.”

Shaking his head to dismiss the thanks, Sarawat leaned over and pressed a surprise kiss to Tine’s flushed cheeks, grinning when Tine whined at the act of affection and huffed, turning his head away so Sarawat couldn’t see the lovestruck smile that was slowly making his lips turn upwards. Remaining silent as he listened to Sarawat tell him how practice when and how he was sick of P’Dim’s constant nagging and how he could never hold a poster upright while showing it off, Tine leaned back against the tub and just stared silently at Sarawat, taking in the way his boyfriend talked and how much feeling he put into his words as he talked about his afternoon. Not realizing that he was caught staring until Sarawat stopped talking and was now observing him too, Tine licked his lips and noticed the way Sarawat followed the action with his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat as he swallowed.   

“The water’s getting cold...can I get out now?” Tine asked softly, feeling his body beginning to shiver as he realized how cool the water had truly gotten since he was fully into what Sarawat was talking to him about earlier. Blinking as he snapped out of whatever state he was in a few moments ago, Sarawat shook the thoughts he had away as he nodded, moving to stand up so he could go fetch a towel for his boyfriend. Leaning over, Tine pulled the plug to the bath and watched as the water drained, not noticing Sarawat returning until he cleared his throat and held out a towel for him. Taking it, Tine waited until Sarawat turned around again before he stood up, carefully stepping out of the tub as he tied the cloth around his waist. Reaching out, Tine fisted the back of Sarawat’s shirt and stepped closer, burying his face in his back, accidentally making his shirt wet. Not really caring however, Sarawat allowed Tine to cling to him as he walked them back to the bedroom. “Can we go to bed now...I can work on homework tomorrow since I don’t have morning classes…”

“Sure...but first, get dressed. I don’t want you catching a cold for being in nothing but a towel,” Sarawat ordered, letting his eyes drift up and down his boyfriend’s form, his eyes stuck on his chest which Tine noticed right away. Rolling his eyes, Tine playfully shoved Sarawat onto their bed, turning around so he could dig out something to wear to bed from their shared dresser. Pulling out a band logo t-shirt that he knew was Sarawat’s, Tine swallowed the lump in his throat as he took a deep breath, grabbing one of his own boxer shorts and moving back towards the bathroom, not letting his boyfriend see what clothes he grabbed. Watching Tine leave, Sarawat arched a brow as the bathroom door shut and he was left alone. Letting out a sigh, Sarawat pushed himself off the bed and stripped out of his school uniform, throwing them in the hamper Tine had placed by their dresser. Pulling a plain back tank top from their dresser, Sarawat slipped it on just in time for the bathroom door to open. “Finally get dressed, Tua Woon Wai?”

Furrowing his brow when he didn’t get a reply back, Sarawat frowned before he turned around, freezing up as he observed his boyfriend standing by the bathroom door, wearing one of his shirts that was a bit too big for him. Taking in the way Tine’s collar bones were on display and how the shirt just covered his boxer clad thighs, almost making it look like he was wearing nothing but the shirt, Sarawat took a deep breath in through his nose, trying to calm his racing thoughts as Tine shifted on his feet, obviously getting nervous since Sarawat was not saying anything. Leveling his boyfriend with a stare again, Sarawat strolled over to him and cupped his cheeks, squeezing them until Tine whined and looped his hands around his wrists, huffing at the smile the whine brought to Sarawat’s lips.

“Who said you could be this adorable, Nuisance?” Sarawat chuckled as he fixed the shirt until Tine’s neck wasn’t as open anymore. Flushing brightly at what his boyfriend said, Tine cleared his throat and flicked Sarawat’s forehead, spinning around him as he headed towards the bed, his attentiveness just beginning to cloud over as the thought of sleep still lingered heavily in his thoughts. Crawling into the bed again, Tine rolled over onto his side of the mattress, getting comfortable until he noticed that he wasn’t being followed. Turning his head so that it wasn’t buried in his pillow, Tine stared at Sarawat, who was watching him with nothing but fondness filling his warm gaze. Feeling his cheeks warm at the sight, Tine grumbled and waved his hand around, gesturing for Sarawat to climb into bed as well. Rolling his eyes, Sarawat pretended to think about it before he launched himself, landing stomach first as he curled into his spot, pulling the blanket up on the both of them. “It’s still kind of early to sleep, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, it is...but...I don’t really feel like doing much of anything else. Is that, um, is that okay?” Tine asked, uncertainty beginning to cloud his sleepy voice, not really sure if he really had a right to feel this way. Reaching out, Sarawat slowly intertwined their fingers, his thumb rubbing soft circles in his hand as he leveled him with a soft expression, trying to convey what he was feeling through his eyes. As a precursor to the mildly harrowing journey I’m about to take you on, you should know that I initially liveblogged this in a Discord chat, so what I liveblogged is purposely not emphasizing some of the stranger elements of this show. Oh with added context Sun and his mom had a rough go of it actually, she had him young and sent his sister to live with their aunt and kind of really did leave Sun to fend for himself

Executive Chef Sun is now shooting a cooking competition and Rain has been thrown out by security so I'm guessing that Sun and Horny Ghost will be ✨ live ✨ on ✨ television ✨

So the theme of the cooking competition is Mom's Home Cooking and they've mentioned like 3 times that Sun's mom never cooked anything for him

Sun's childhood friend Ida  who seems to have a crush on him tried to invite him up to her apartment [Tiktok voice "I wanna ruin our friendship"] but he said nah so now he's standing in the rain thinking about their history

First of all, sir, you are 30, so I don’t see the point of trying to pretend the same actor makes sense in a school uniform. Second of all, is wearing glasses and having bangs all that it takes to make you unpopular? What kinda She's All That nonsense??

Sun's argument for denying the booty call is that they should've dated in university but now they've missed their moment
