many things I love about bfu. this we all know well. one of those things is when shane makes a really bad joke or pun and ryan gives a neutral to negative reaction cuz like. you know that’s like the third or fifth take they did of that they had to cut the 10 minutes he spent giggling before that

As someone who got super into Markiplier and Jacksepticeye in 2017 yeah they are also Victims of rpf. *shudder*
i think the consensus here should be that only youtubers should be seriously worried about rpf

simply a poll spawned as a result of my curiosity. ive bounced around a lot in the past four years, and there are more i could have mentioned if there were more poll options (i.e ghostbusters, dc, the walking dead, pirates of the carribean) but i'll leave it at this. tried to put it in chronological order of oldest to newest for those that have been around my blog for a while

It has now been 1809 days without the hotdaga
And it has now been 741 days without me letting you know how many days its been
Strange to reminisce over a gimmick blog 2 years after not posting on it but here I am. I spent years so fixated on buzzfeed unsolved that I was essentially a walking encyclopaedia for it, able to tell you what happened in each episode cause it was kinda all I had! I ran this blog and posted exclusively about bfu on my main blog during a pretty shit part of my life and, although it was just silly shit like this blog, it helped me get through those couple years. I kinda just up and left this blog during my recovery but I’ve been trying to bring closure to everything that was going on during my feeling like death era and since I haven’t posted about bfu on my main blog in years it feels a bit out of place to do it there. So thank you to everyone who sent asks to here and participated in the silliness that was this blog, thanks to Ryan and Shane and everyone who worked on bfu for keeping me going and thank you to everyone at @wearewatcher for the great stuff they’re making now
Cheers
- Stupid gimmick blog you don’t remember (now @blodeuweddschild)

What's your fav trope to write about in fanfic? Or read?
Hey. Sorry to keep you waiting, but I had to think on this one for awhile.
So my favorite thing to write in fanfic- and I'm not sure if this is technically a trope, but TV Tropes a page for it, so I'm gonna go with it- is actually Original Characters. I have them in pretty much all of my fanfics, and even more in the ones that I've thought about but haven't written/posted for whatever reason. -Both of my GI fics have OCs who come in, start the plot moving, and bond with the main characters to an extent. -My discontinued HP fic, one of my unwritten GoT fics and the BN fic that I'm planning all center around female OCs with strong and (hopefully) interesting personalities. (These are probably my favorite type of OCs, which might be why my fic-writing has been so inconsistent for years now. I came of age in the era of fandom where major female OCs were automatically Mary Sues, or at least Cringe, and that's something I've had to get past.) -My BFU/VM crossover and my NPS one-shot are outliers. You could argue that the crossover has some of the vibes because it's Ryan and Shane reacting to VM canon as outsiders. Not so much with the one-shot because that's just about a canon couple that I was obsessed with.
So I write a lot of OCs, and in trying to figure out why, I think it's a mix of things: -Bleeding over from my original writing -It's a fun way to explore the canon's world -It's a nice way to shake up the character dynamics -If you're gonna put your favorite little guys in situations, they're gonna meet new people, and you might as well make those people interesting
As for reading, I don't really have any favorite tropes that I can think of. I am picky about my fanfics, but it's more about whether they're well-written and if the characters feel right.
This was longer and more analytical than you might've expected. I hope that's okay.

just had a moment reading your ask answer, thinking “well surely soft-cryptids’ bfu era wasn’t all that long ago—oh. oh no. oh god”
that being said your art is timeless! and it’s always a joy to see more no matter what subject you decide to draw. <3
Right!?!?!
I feel like the bfu era was just last year, but it was in like ... 2019?? The hell. When did it happen.
Also. Awww. Nonnie. You will make me cry and I'm at work. Come on.

I know this is kind of over but. I am really disappointed that the guys now a) know so many of their fans are only interested in them making exactly what they want - at no cost to them and b) that people really don't get how much the blue and yellow text era BFU actually cost.
Buzzfeed Unsolved was made on a relatively low budget (at first) by the standards of a series produced by Buzzfeed Studios. It was filmed and edited and produced using equipment and studio space and staff at Buzzfeed. Even the early days would have, if you were to have made it on your own, cost a hefty chunk - not least cus all this shit costs more when you're working it out than when you've got a set idea of what you need for a series.
Buzzfeed Unsolved was a hit and so got more budget. That waxed and waned over the years but the sheer scale of being filmed in Buzzfeed and with the attendant access to YouTube account management and cross-promotion and staffers and being able to phone literally anywhere and say "hi we're Buzzfeed can we do a thing" was all stuff that cost money. It's just it was Buzzfeed's money, which would sometimes be flowing easily and sometimes be cut off like the faucet in the staff bathroom if the executives wanted shareholder value to go up.
The mistake that the absolute fuckers who gutted Buzzfeed and destroyed all the media you love made was imagining it cost nothing and was just Ryan, Shane and some vibes. That you can tell people to just make good content with nothing. And to only make what people want, never to experiment, never to do things you literally went and started a company to have the freedom to make and make properly, without being dependent on sponsorship.
You can not want to pay $6 a month for something, fine. But don't imagine a massive media house's product was cheap to make or that the people who made it are only ever good enough to make something you perceive as worthless.
steven lim: we actually need more money for higher production value so that you guys have the best! and we're bringing back a super expensive show! for you guys, the fans!
