How old is the Batfamily (in New Earth)?
These are my personal calculations. Comics are bad at continuity, I’m sure we’re all aware.
I use Tim as my north star in my calculations because we have a couple sure fire ages for him, unlike people like Dick or Bruce whose continuity is less concrete. Tim was 3 when the Graysons died, 13 after Jason died, and he just turned 16 shortly before Jason turned 18.
Tim’s birthday is July 19th, and Jason’s is August 16th. Since Tim turns 16 the same year Jason would turn 18, Jason is exactly 1 year, 11 months, and 3 days older than Tim - almost 2 years. Jason’s death certificate says he died April 27, at 15 years old; this means Jason was turning 16 that year, and it also means when Tim arrives at 13, it’s not yet summer, so Tim is turning 14 soon. Batman #436 confirms Jason was with Bruce for 2 years, making him 13-going-on-14 when Bruce adopted him, and Tim the same age when he comes in behind him.
Dick has multiple dates presented for his birthday, so exact age is a no go. In 1940, Dick was 8 years old when he became Robin. That is impossible now, if Tim attended Haly’s Circus when he was 3, and Jason was between them as Robin. In Final Crisis, Dick’s depicted as 12 when his parents die. This would make him about 9 years older than Tim, and 7 years older than Jason. That would mean when Jason was adopted, Dick would be 20, and he’d be 22 when Jason died, and 26 when he became Batman.
Tim is 9yo when he realizes Robin is Dick Grayson. That makes Dick about 18yo. Two years later, Jason is Robin for another two years, take 6 months for his training. These ages fit together nicely.
Bruce was 25 when he finished his Batman training. Batman: Year One is probably a full year, and The Long Halloween is DEFIANTELY a year, so let’s say Bruce adopts Dick (Dark Victory) two years after returning to Gotham - 27yo. This makes Bruce 15 years older than Dick. This works for their fuzzy awkward family dynamic, where Bruce is something between a big brother and a dad, getting more parental as Bruce gets older, and grating on Dick’s growing independence as he’s being given MORE restrictions as he ages, not less. It makes Bruce 22 years older than Jason (35yo when he adopts him), a more reasonable age gap for a parent and child, which plays into Bruce’s more immediately parental relationship with Jason (and thus Dick’s jealousy over it). It then makes Bruce 24 years older than Tim (37 after Jason’s death and upon meeting Tim). Bruce’s birthday is Feb. 19th, early in the year, so its not as awkward to juggle months into the equation. This makes Bruce 41 at the end of New Earth; I was honestly surprised, it’s a pretty reasonable age for a fit man to be Batman-ing, if there is ANY age considered reasonable to be Batman-ing.
Cassandra Cain is already 18 when Jason turns 18, and her birthday is January 26, so Cass is exactly 6 months and 21 days older than Jason.
Early on, Stephanie says she’s “older” than Tim, though I don’t know how she’d know that at the time. Later, Stephanie’s attending freshman year of college when she first becomes Batgirl, so I think it’s safe to say she’s about 1 year older than Tim, making her 15 when they meet when Tim is 14, and 18 when Tim is 17 at the end of the New Earth run.
Damian... I feel like someone told me Damian was slightly hyper-aged as a toddler, but I can’t find that information r/n, and also I don’t care, so I’m moving forward as if Damian was born naturally, and not artificially altered at all. I’m convinced the more we see Damian drawn to look more like Thalia, the more we’re just casually being asked to kindly forget about the racist “genetically modified to be perfect, i.e. look more like Bruce” Thing. So I’m gonna.
Since I think the fathers day comic between Tim and Bruce occurs before we meet Damian, and father’s day is in June, and his birthday’s in July, I’m going to assume Tim is 17 when he meets Damian for the first time, who is described as 10. This means Damian is 7 years younger than Tim, 9 years younger than Jason, 16 years younger than Dick, and 31 years younger than Bruce. This is particularly interesting, because Bruce and Dick’s age gap is about the same as Dick and Damian’s age gap, which draws more of a parallel between Bruce and Dick’s awkward pseudo-big-brother/actual-adopted-dad relationship and Dick and Damian’s pseudo-dad/actual-big-brother relationship.
And then there’s Barbara. What to do with Barbara. Barbara's got de-aged over the years to make her a more palatable ship for Dick (no hatin’, just true). It’s cute for a teenage boy to have a widdle crush on his adult friend/big sister figure who’s old enough to have a doctorate, and then have him fall in love with an alien girl closer to his own age, but when they decided they wanted this ship to be viable, they had to close that 8-10 year age gap, or Babs was gonna look like a creep. Detective Comics 871 aged her all the way down to Dick’s exact age, having them go to prom together, but you can make Barbara anywhere between 26 and 36+ by the end of New Earth and I’m not sure anyone can say you’re wrong. I have Much Fear they’re going to try to de-age her again, though, with this potential Jason romance hanging in the air.
And Alfred... look, man, I don’t know, he was 18 when he joined the British military, and that’s the extent of my understanding of how old Alfred is.
And, you know, Duke didn’t exist in New Earth, and the Prime ages are all fucked to hell. Usually, I make Duke about a year or two younger than Tim, just because it kinda sounds right.
tl;dr: By the end of New Earth, the Batfam is probably: Alfred (???), Bruce (41), Babs (26-36+), Dick (26), Cass (19), Jason (19), Steph (18), Tim (17), and Damian (10).

Carrying On (Jay Park Mafia AU)
Summary: Its been said that in times of tragedy new relationships emerge and become stronger, when tragedy strikes we seek connection it is in our nature. How does the loss of their father affect the relationship between Jay and his adopted sister, Amara. Does it strengthen it? Or does it reveal things which were once hidden?
AN: This is the first story I’ve ever posted, constructive criticism is always welcome
Fifty-one.... fifty-two…. fifty-three…. fifty-four…. fifty-five… damn this is really not working. Why do they always make it seem like counting sheep helps you fall asleep? I checked the clock again- 12:05am. Sighing, I rolled over to the cooler side of my bed and let my mind wonder to the last 2 weeks, the worst 2 weeks of my life as far as I can remember. My adopted father and leader of the most powerful mafia clan in South Korea had passed away, leaving his only son Jae-beom (aka Jay) in charge of his empire.
I don’t remember too much from my childhood before I was adopted but from the snippets I do remember and what I’ve been told, it wasn’t good. I was found by Jay’s father going through garbage outside one of the restaurants the family owns at the age of 10, having been abandoned by my mother for being a mixed-race baby, I guess she couldn’t deal with having a half black half Korean child any longer. According Jay’s father I reminded him of the daughter he had lost a couple years prior when she and her mother (his wife/Jay’s mother) had falling ill and both passed away. In the back of my head I always felt like some sort of ‘replacement child’ for the daughter he had lost, even though he never made me feel like it, even Jay made me feel like his little sister even though it took a bit of time for him to get use to me as he was 16years old when I was “brought into the family” but over time we became very close, even naming me his co-right hand along with his best friend Simon. And of course he always took his role as the protective big brother a little too seriously with some of my boyfriends throughout high school and varsity. They would break up with me after a few weeks with either a broken nose or blackened eye.
I sighed and rolled over one more time before giving up and getting out of bed to make a cup of tea or something stronger to help me fall asleep. I threw a long silk robe over my sleep chemise to conserve some decency just in case one of the guards was roaming around. As I walked down the hall, I noticed Jay’s bedroom door slightly open with the light inside shining through. After softly knocked I pushed the door to find him sitting on the couch facing the fireplace with the coffee table filled with presumably work papers, “Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” he asked without turning around, his full attention on the fire before him. “Shouldn’t you?” I rebutted as I grabbed the empty whiskey glass in his hand, walked over to the mini bar in his room to get him a refill and me a glass of his strongest whiskey on the rocks. He was still wearing the black slacks and black dress shirt he wore earlier in the day with the tie thrown somewhere in the room and his top two buttons undone.
“Seems we both can’t fall asleep huh” he said, as I handed him his glass. He mumbled a soft thanks as I sat down next to him. “Seems like” I replied leaning into his shoulder and staring into the flames with him. For some time, nothing could be heard but the fire crackling and the occasional clinking of ice against glass as we took sips of our drinks. “So, what happens now?” I asked, finally breaking the silence. He sighed, running his hand over his face. “In a few days, we meet with the heads of the families underneath us to continue business as usual” he answered, gulped down the rest of his drink and placed the glass on the side table as to not jolt me from his shoulder. “Can’t believe he’s gone” I whispered.
“Neither can I” he responded, closing his eyes and leaning his head against the back of the couch. Jay had been prepped to be the leader of the family organisation since he turned 13 and now at the age of 32, he was more than ready to take over and I had no doubt he would do great things in this position but the fact of our father’s passing was still heavy in our hearts. I gulped down the rest of my drink as well and placed my glass on coffee table. I stretched out my back and neck, unconsciously pushing my chest out against the silk of my robe. Long gone were the days of the scrawny little girl who first joined the family; I had grown into a woman with curves in all the right places, soft caramel skin which glowed under the light of the fire. From the corner of my eye, I notice Jay intensely watching me, not being able to decipher the look like I usually would be able to I pushed it aside.
“Can I have a hug?” I asked, giving him my best puppy dog eyes and pout. He chuckled while getting up and opening his arms up for me. I quickly jumped into his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck before he could change his mind. He wrapped his arms around my waist a bit lower than they usually would be. For some reason this hug felt different from every other hug we’ve shared, but still felt warm, safe and like home. “I’ll never let anything or anyone hurt you” he suddenly confessed into my hair as he placed a soft kiss on the crown of my head, I looked up to find his dark brown eyes staring into mine. “And I will never leave your side” I replied, my statement making him smile. I don’t know what took over me but I suddenly found myself leaning up to kiss him. He didn’t respond at first but after a few seconds I felt his lips move against mine. This kiss was so much better than any I had ever experienced before. His lips were soft but firm, he tasted of the whiskey we had been drinking and a hint of something else, something uniquely him, he took full control of the kiss holding onto my waist a little tighter. Suddenly I felt like a bucket of cold water fell on me when I felt his tongue brushing against my lips and I came to my senses. I shouldn’t have kissed Jay… he was practically my older brother. I quickly ended the kiss, pushing myself away from him and loosening his grip on my waist in the process. “I’m sorry” I mumbled, avoiding his eyes, trying to get past him and back to my room and to hide under my covers from the embarrassment. “Amara wait” he said, calling me by my birth name instead of the name I was given when I came into the family. He was the only one who called me Amara as he knew I preferred that name a little bit more than my given name. He quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me back into his embrace before I could even take 5 steps away from him. I couldn’t bare to look into his face because of the embarrassment. “That kiss wasn’t a mistake” he said softly. I looked up at him, surprised. “I’ve always felt more for you than any normal brother would or even should, I guess that’s why I have always been so protective over you. At first I thought it was because you had such a tough time growing up and I wanted to protect you from that and this hectic mafia life you had been brought into, but as we grew older I knew it was much more than that. That’s why I could never stand seeing you with those idiots you used to date, especially that piece of shit Bobby” he said. Bobby was the guy I had dated in my senior year of high school but he had broken up with me right after prom after I had given him my virginity, stating that the only reason he was with me was to sleep with the “Park Princess”. I remember crying for a week but after that he mysteriously went missing and his family left town not long after. I had always assumed he had left with his family.
“You’re mine. You’ve always been mine and I’m never letting you go” he declared, looking deep into my eyes before pulling me back into a slightly rough passionate kiss. Deep down I knew I felt the same way about him. I even had a full blown crush on Jay between the ages of 16-18 but after that I quickly pushed it aside thinking it was not only one sided but wrong as he was supposed to be my brother. I briefly thought back to my past boyfriends and realised they all had either personality or physical similarities to Jay but in my mind and heart they would never amount to him. I felt him walk backwards towards the couch without breaking our passionate embrace. He broke our kiss to sit down and signalled for me to straddle him. Before I did I untied the knot I had done on my robe, letting the soft silk fall off my skin, revealing the deep red chemise I was wearing underneath. “Fuck” I heard him whisper as I straddled his lap and continued kissing him, his hands returned to my waist, pulling me closer into him which cause my barely covered pussy to brush up against the quickly growing bulge in his pants, this action causing us both to groan into each other’s mouths.
His lips left mine and started trailing down my neck, finding that sweet spot that made me grind into him just a little harder. My fingers made quick work unbuttoning his shirt and slowly ran down his strong chest lightly brushing over his nipples, this action causing him to groan and dig his fingers- which had moved from my waist to my ass- deeper into my soft but firm flesh. His lips quickly returned to mine as his hands started trailing up, dragging my chemise with them. We briefly separated so he could pull the material over my head before returning to the kiss. “Hold on tight” he muttered, as he got up without breaking our kiss, my legs wrapped securely around his waist. He softly placed me onto his bed as he broke apart from my lips to remove the rest of his shirt. “Fuck you’re perfect” he groaned, his voice laced with lust. “Those fuckers didn’t deserve you” he muttered as he returned to kissing my neck, this time also grabbing onto my boobs and playing with my nipple with his one hand whilst the other trailed down the side of my body and returned to my legs around his waist, I felt nothing but him at that moment, the soft heated touch of his hands running down my body, the smell of his rich expensive cologne, his soft lips on my nipple driving me crazy. At that moment all my thoughts were consumed by him. “Have you ever wondered what happened to that piece of shit Bobby” he said looking into my eyes with a dark look I had only seen a handful of times. “I killed him” he said, now kissing and sucking my left nipples whilst his right hand continued to play with the other. “What!” pulling his hair causing him to look up at me, “Not only did he have the audacity to touch what’s mine, but he hurt you as well…he had to pay for that” he declared kissing me once again. As dark and twisted as it seems, his confession turned me on even more.
His kisses left my lips once again as he kissed my body further and further down. His fingers made quick work of the cute thong I had been wearing, tearing it off my body “Hey! That was one of my favourites” I complained before moaning as his fingers brushed up against my clit, “I’ll buy you a million more, get you whatever you want and I’ll do whatever you want” he said, looking deep into my eyes. “Well right now, I want you to stop teasing and eat me out” I said grabbing onto his hair, pushing him down towards where I needed him most, “Your wish is my command, my Queen” he said seductively before attaching his lips to my clit. Him calling me his Queen and the feeling of his thick fingers entering me as he sucked my clit made me cum instantly. “Jay!” I screamed his name as I experienced a high like never before. As I came down from it, he pulled his fingers out of me and licked them clean whilst looking me dead in the eye. “You taste so good babygirl I could be down there forever” he said. I quickly sat up and pushed him back and kissed him, tasting myself on his lips sent my body into overdrive as I quickly unbuckled his pants. He chuckled at the rushed movements and pushed me back as he got up to remove his pants.
As he did this, I got a full proper look at his body; firm, muscular, covered in tattoos and all mine. I truly was the luckiest girl in the world at that moment. As he pulled down his briefs, I got my first proper look at him, he was long, thick and veiny. His tip was an angry red colour dripping beads of pre-cum. He’s gorgeous, I thought. I reached out to feel him, barely able to wrap my hand around him. He felt hot and heavy in my hand. I slowly started to stroke him, and he let out the sexiest groan I had ever heard causing me to look up at him. His eyes were dark with lust and passion. “Baby, you better stop if you don’t want this to end too early” he groaned, taking my hand away from him and leaning into another kiss. He laid me down and once again started kissing my neck. At the back of my mind I wondered if it would hurt; Jay was definitely much more blessed than any other man I had been with.
“Don’t worry baby I’ll go slow” he said positioning himself between my legs as if reading my mind.
“At first” I replied with a sexy smirk on my face as I grabbed him and pumped him a few times before lining him up with my entrance. “I love you” he said as he slowly entered me. He felt so big that it kind of hurt but I didn’t want him to stop. The pleasure outweighed the pain. “Fuck baby, I love you too” I moaned as he finally bottomed out. “Shit baby you feel so good” he groaned as he started moving at a slow and steady pace. I grabbed his face and pulled him down into another kiss, missing the feel of his lips on me. In this moment I felt complete I knew that we were meant to be, I knew that he was fully mine and as I his. “Fuck baby harder” I moaned as he moved one of my legs to rest on his shoulder. He granted my wish as he started moving faster and harder, hitting a spot in me that made my brain go all fuzzy. I became a moaning mess underneath him as he did what he pleased with my body. “Shit baby, I’m so close” I groaned against his lips. At that moment he pulled out of me and before I could protest he flipped me over onto my stomach and pulled my hips up into a perfectly arched position, he quickly re-entered me, now feeling even deeper than he was before. The sounds that were coming out my mouth didn’t sound like me but at that moment in time I didn’t care because all my body and mind were focused on Jay and the pleasure he was giving me. My mind briefly drifted, the thought of him impregnating me at the moment and how beautiful our baby would be warming me up even more. This thought quickly got pushed aside as I felt him grab my hair and pull me up till my back met his chest. “Fuck baby you feel so good and so fucken tight” he groaned into my ear as I turned my head to kiss him. “I want to feel you cum on me” he groaned as his fingers attached themselves to my clit sending me into the most mind-blowing orgasm I’ve ever experienced in my life. My walls tightened so much around him that he came not a second later. He continued pumping into me, drawing out our highs as much as possible. “Fuck” he sighed in content. “I’m never going to get enough of you” he said pulling me into another kiss.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing” I said clenching my inner walls around his still hard member. He groaned, flipping us over till I was on top of him with his dick deep inside me.
“No, not a bad thing at all” he smirked as I slowly started moving, “You’re mine forever” he said, sitting up and kissing me once again. We continued to make love until the sun slowly started peaking through the curtains. “I love you” he whispered into my hair as I lay in his arms, “And I love you” I replied as I turned my head to give him one last kiss before we fell asleep.
At the back of our minds, we both knew we would probably face a lot of heat and probably negative attention if our relationship was to be exposed with most saying it’s wrong. However, I knew that no matter what Jay would never leave me nor I him.
The End

daniel larusso's outfits megapost
hello, loves! i'm just gonna go through the movies and make a few comments on all of daniel's outfits. give or take a few that i may have missed, but i tried to get them all. they will also (mostly) be in chronological order.
so here goes. if you wanna read my ramblings, look under the cut!
okay, here goes. the first time we see our daniel. not my fave. but when i first watched thses movies, i was instantly attracted to him lmao. he was my first celeb crush at like age 12/13 and he still is as a 59 year old man now..
the beach wear is nice but not one of my favourites.
v cute when he adds the red hoodie though. definitely his colour
this look is one of my favourites, vvvv nice and he does actually look really cool. the red checkers are real nice - i am very much a fan of anything plaid/checkered/flannel, so i always love it on him. i would wear this for sure, glasses included
his gym wear, we see twice.. another fan favourite, i believe. i prefer it without the jacket though
probably my least favourite out of the movies. not a fan of the orange, daniel
the yellow shirt was really nice, he looks very good in this with his very pretty bruise too. we only get to see this outfit for like a minute though :(
the red jacket - very very nice. he is stunning in this scene
this one always has a lot of different opinions. personally, i really like it and it's one of my favourite outfits of his. he makes the colliding patterns work, right? and the whump adds to the look. he wears the same pants when he's trimming his bonsai tree with miyagi too.
this is another one of my faves but we see it for literally 4/5 seconds because he's trying to avoid ali. it's vvv cute.
he usually wears his flannel buttoned up, but here, he wears it open and i get writer or artist vibes from him here too
another fave.
look at himmmmm. or...... it. lmao
hi beautiful boy
okay, and this scene after the fight, wearing the same shirt and looking so so comfy and cosy (despite the whump). i just wanna cuddle him so bad in this scene
guess what? another favourite outfit.. in fact, the rest of the outfits from part 1 are in my favourites. he looks v good. the blue and white checks are one of the best ones he wears.
this little moment where miyagi puts on the headband... doesn't it feel like some very monumental moment? like when someone in your family passes down a watch or piece of jewelry, or just any kind of item with meaning. it feels special and it's very nice too. the fact that this scene was improvised by pat oo, and then the headband became a statement.. amazing. also, i was curious about the pattern, and looked some stuff up, so if you didn't already know - it's a japanese hand towel or handkerchief, called a 'tenugui'. they are usually used to dry hands, sweat, etc (never for blowing your nose though), but they can also be used to wrap things, to give gifts, as belts etc. so hopefully that's something new for some of you to learn today. also! how sweet that ralph still has one of them!!
okay, enough on that.. the next one.. the green/navy kinda flannel, also very nice on him! the whump!!!
the date night outfit is basically and example of how i dress whenever i'm not working or living in hoodies. very lush
this could be my top favourite if there wasn’t so many. the headband around his neck, the plaid, the smiles, the background... it all adds up and it’s stunningly gorg
this one is like, probably one of the most popular, no? it's like one of the first pictures you see if you search daniel larusso on anything. he looks angelic
this one is pretty too! it's like he knew he would be painting or something because the outfit sort of gives off artist vibes again
these are probably the same shorts that he wore to the beach party, right? listen, he was the same age here, that i am now and just, like... turn around, daniel, pls :)
okay, fine..
look at that background.. so pretty.. and so is the main subject :)
his birthday outfit is him in a sweater, so of course, i love it very much. the hat just makes it that much more adorable too
then he tries on the gi for the first time.. gorgeous
this jacket is really nice.. one of my top faves! i would probably buy a jacket like this
the plaid he wears just before the tournament.. pretty pretty
the gi!! it's very hard to pick an all time favourite, but this is very close to being it. idk what it is but i just really enjoy him in it.
and the patch is really really cool
first outfit of part 2... a top fave. another outfit that is pretty much an example of what i wear a lot
not a fan, not a fan. the colour of his prom suit is nice, but it's not his best look
it looks slightly better without the jacket though
not a fan of this striped shirt either
it seems like part 1 was a lot of plaid/flannel and part 2 is a lot of stripes.
he wears this shirt a few times throughout this movie..
the pink shirt is quite cute, and he's a lil cutie during this scene meeting yukie
this scene is very sad, but the outfit is very good. wish we'd seen this at some other point
one of everyone's favourites. yesyesyes. very, very nice.
damn, he looks good. the peaking shoulder and the shirt blowing in the wind. yesyesyes. very, very nice.
just... yes.
he wears that tank top again a little later too!
more stripes, very cute
i've realised that a lot of you love red on him and i happen to very much agree.
gorgeous
then here's the shirt that kumiko gifts to him. also, very very nice
the pink checkered shirt - he wears this for the cermony, then through the storm, up until this moment.. again, it's another that i really like
bet you've been waiting for this one, huh?
or maybe you scrolled down to it because you wanted to see what i would say.. hm? haha
it's actually shiny just so nice. the bonsai is so cool too. and it matches with miyagi's grey version
anyways, if he didn't have so so so many good outfits then this would be my all time favourite. he is radiant. the little bonsais on the front are so sweet!!! ugh, i just love bonsai trees too, i guess
this is like the only full shot of it, unless you use something from the actual fight
had to include this glorious, perfect smile and moment. ugh, just look at him.. stare at it for a moment and enjoy his beauty and the very nicely done whump goodness
okay, you done staring? good, because we're onto the final movie... part 3
these three shirts are some of the few that i like in part 3. the blue is cool
the yellow is nice
the red is pretty
this puffy jacket appears a lot in this part, and i don't really like it
this shirt is one that miyagi gifted to him, very nice.. and i think it's actually very similar to one that miyagi wears in the first movie too
the sweaters. oh, the sweaters. he looks so good in them. this grey one with the red pants.. gorgeous
such a pretty man
he just looks so comfy and cuddly, pls
ugh, precious angel
i can't decide if i like the grey or dark blue one more, but they are both really nice and two of my favourite colours which is part of the reason why
come and cuddle me, pls
this has to be the same outfit he worse while running with jessica, only with the joggers rolled up a little.. v cute
this was a nice outfit! despite the heartbreaking moment that comes right after. i think he really suits red.. and blue
this jacket, he wears it a few times with different shirts. i actually love this one. it has like a plaid/check inlay which is really cool - i want it.
i prefer it like this though, with the collared shirt and sweater
and finally, we have the gi again. a classic, one of his best best looks ever.
if you would like to use these screencaps, please feel free, but just tag me somewhere because it truly tok a long time to get them all/edit/sort etc :)

36. “Every morning you kiss my forehead before I leave for work, why was it on my lips today?”

TINA AND HER LOVE FANTASIES
1 - Tina dated a ghost in Tina and the Real Ghost (Season 5, Episode 2)
The basement storage space of the restaurant has a bug infestation and Bob has an exterminator come to check it out. However, the exterminator claims the basement is haunted and refuses to treat the infestation, claiming they need to make contact with the spirit to get rid of it. Linda and the kids decide to use a Ouija board to communicate with the ghost and trap it in a shoebox to get rid of it. Using the board, they learn that the ghost is a 13-year-old boy named Jeff, which piques Tina's interest. After "trapping" Jeff in the box, Tina refuses to throw "him" out and brings him with her to school. Tammy, Jocelyn, Zeke, and Jimmy Jr. taunt Tina about the box, until Louise has them all use the Ouija board to communicate with Jeff. They become convinced Jeff is real, and through the board, learn that Jeff is cool and that he has a crush on Tina.
Tina and Jeff begin going out, earning her attention from her friends, though she has some doubts about whether Jeff is real. However, Tammy takes the box and claims that Jeff left a message written in steam on the girls' bathroom mirror that says he's breaking up with Tina and is now dating Tammy. Tina is heartbroken. The family tries to decide how to cheer Tina up and Louise reveals to the rest of the family that she controlled the Ouija board and made Jeff up, but did not anticipate that Tina would fall in love with him or that Tammy would one-up her by stealing Tina's popularity with a similar ruse.
Louise and Gene resolve to get back at Tammy by scaring her on Halloween night when the older kids plan to enter a mausoleum in the nearby cemetery. Tina surprises them by joining the group and they head into the mausoleum, which immediately shuts and traps them inside in complete darkness. Louise takes this opportunity to steal the box and fill it with bugs from the restaurant and gives it back to Tammy to open. The kids light a candle and are frightened to find a message written in blood on the mausoleum walls, allegedly from Jeff, condemning them all to Hell.
Scared, Tammy confesses that she wrote the fake breakup message and throws the box away, causing the bugs to swarm them all. Tina calms everyone down by revealing that she pretended the mausoleum door was locked and wrote the message before they arrived in ketchup to scare them, having realized long ago that Jeff was not real.
She explains that they all believed in Jeff because he was able to give them something they wanted: Tina wanted a boyfriend, Zeke wanted to believe in the afterlife, Jocelyn wanted another way to conform, and Tammy wanted Jeff as a status symbol. Tina states that they can get these things from themselves, though they all agree that Tammy is terrible. Louise is impressed that Tina pulled such a great Halloween prank on all of them.
2 - Tina dated a duck in Every Which Way but Goose (Season 9, Episode 14)
When Jimmy Jr. cancels their school dance plans, Tina, discouraged by not being asked to prom by Jimmy Jr., forms an unhealthy attachment to a goose from the nearby park.
Tina's story revolves around her theme "Dance of the Living Dead" being chosen for the school dance. She goes berserk when Jimmy Jr. won't ask her to the dance (which was due to an embarrassing injury) and ends up forming a bond with a goose - she named Bruce - at the local park. This leads to the goose disrupting the dance when it followed her to school.
This is one of the rare episodes where we see Jimmy Junior being bashful of his feelings towards Tina.
During the dance, Gene and Louise find out why Jimmy Junior didn't ask Tina. While dancing, he injured his buttocks. He felt embarrassed about what Tina would think of his injury and not being able to dance with her.
“I pulled my butt muscle doing a very difficult move from Save the Last Dance. There. I said it. (sighs) It feels good not to hide my butt stuff anymore. Anyway, I can't really dance, but I'd like to try. With you.”
He later sacrifices himself to save the trapped goose.
3 - Tina fell in love with a character from a Spanish audio course.
In Y Tu Tina También (Season 11, Episode 16) it’s school fair time again, and Gene and Louise are training hard on throwing skills to at last put Mr Frond smack in the dunk tank. Meanwhile, Tina is suffering crippling ennui, but is lifted out of it when she is forced to listen to Spanish audio lessons in the library to improve her grade and developed an infatuation with a spanish teenage boy – or rather, the voice of a 15 years-old boy named Rodrigo recorded on a 1980s Spanish language teaching cassette someone donated to the school.
Jokes about Tina obsession for love and boys:
Also producers made a joke about Tina's very developed ability to made up romantic stories with every single boy or object she saw.
In O.T.: The Outside Toilet (Season 3, Episode 15) Gene finds an expensive talking toilet out in the woods, he falls in love with it and he and his friends decide to protect it against an evil toilet hunter who calls himself Max Flush.
This is remarked in Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now (Season 9, Episode 1).
A news report on Boyz 4 Now shows that they're having auditions for a 4th member after a new album sells poorly. While Tina is taking napkins out of the car, she bumps into Damon, a boy going to the tryouts and says it's love at first sight. Convinced she's met the love of her life, Tina decides to disguise herself as a boy and sneak into the Boyz 4 Now auditions to find him, since girls aren't allowed to go to them. Tina struggles to keep focused due to other boys at the tryouts, so she understands that she doesn't love Damon because of all the boys she fantasized about.

Sugar and Coffee [12]
Chapter 11 - Chapter 12 - Chapter 13
➜ Words: 2.1k
➜ Genres: 99.5% Fluff, 0.5% Angst, Pâtisserie school!AU
➜ Summary: It isn't hard to be a pâtisserie chef, but it's not a piece of cake either. It seems like for you in particular, life keeps throwing in one wrench after another. It always finds ways to make your sweets bitter. The cherry on top is Jeon Jungkook — a rival with a sensitive sweet tooth who always finds ways to complain about you.
cr.
“Never stop believing, never stop dreaming, and never stop doing your best!” There’s deafening applause, standing ovations, and you get onto your own feet, clapping your hands together. The graduates are wearing bright smiles and they throw their hats into the air simultaneously. You watch them soar, knowing one day soon that’ll be you too. Proud parents are gathered together, taking pictures while teachers are shaking the graduates’ hands, wishing them luck for their future endeavours. In the meanwhile, you hold the bouquet of flowers to your chest, paper crinkling underneath your grip and your eyes sweep the crowd. “Do you see him?” you ask Jungkook. He hums, hand placed on his brows to shield the blazing sunlight away. “No….oh, there he is!” The two of you are dressed up for the ceremony. You’re in a modest dress that church goers would approve of while Jungkook is in a suit and tie like he’s going to prom. You appreciate him being here. He didn’t need to come, but he didn’t hesitate when you asked him to. Jungkook just gives you the moral support you need. “Y/N? Jungkook!” Seokjin is in his navy graduation gown, rich in colour. He wears a matching coloured hat with a yellow tassel and you muse the whole grad get-up looks good on him. “Hey. Congratulations, man.” Jungkook smiles as a form of salutation. “C-Congratulations on graduating.” You smile as well and extend your arm. “These are for me?” He indicates the flowers, the corners of his mouth lifted. When you nod, Jin laughs and takes them. “I love them, thank you!” “It’s nothing. I always promised I would see you walk the stage, so I’m just following through.” “A woman of her word.” Seokjin grins, making you release half of a scoff and half of a laugh. “Of course I am.” You glance at Jungkook and he takes the cue. “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” The boy hitches his thumb over his shoulder, slowly walking backwards. “I haven’t gone for about an hour now and my bladder is just killing me.” He stiffly laughs, almost bumping into some old lady. “Alright then. See you later.” You sigh at his awkwardness and turn back to Jin. “Sorry about him.” “No, it’s alright.” Seokjin smiles softly. “So you’re finished with all your finals?” “Yeah, they’re all done. I don’t get much of a break though. My internship starts in two weeks.” “Oh yeah!” He recalls, eyes lighting up. “Good luck. It should be really exciting. I still remember mine.” “Thanks. I’m actually looking forward to it.” “Good. You’ll make great memories, trust me.” The pair of you stare at each other and you exhale lightly. “So this is it, huh, Kim Seokjin? All done with your schooling, you lucky bastard.” The older man grins. “It’ll be you soon.” “I know and I might beat you as a pastry chef one day, so you better watch out.” Laughter bubbles out of his chest and it’s melodic to the ears. “I will.” It’s a bittersweet moment, a nostalgic one. You remember going to his high school graduation, him at yours. Now he’s moving onto a new stage of his life again and in a way, you are too. It occurs to you how grown up you’ve both become, how you’re not so young and naive anymore. “Can you congratulate Moonbyul, Sandeul, Ken and Hani for me?” “I will. I’ll tell them you came by. They’ll appreciate it.” You nod, but before you bid a final farewell, Seokjin raises his arm and gently ruffles your hair. The tension dissipates with his sincere smile. “I’m glad you came, Y/N.” “Me too,” you say with an equally earnest smile. “How’d it go?” Jungkook asks once you’ve regrouped with him again. You found the mop of black hair in the midst of parents and graduates, somehow munching on a hot dog he bought, and getting ketchup on his black blazer. You hum, cheeks swelled with the biggest grin. “Good.” You’re glad you came, that you followed through with a promise made a long time ago, one you could’ve pretended to forget. But you don’t regret showing up. You and Seokin are almost strangers now, but you’ve realized somewhere down the line that it doesn’t make your time spent together any less fond. You loved him once and loved him wholeheartedly. He allowed you to do that. Allowed you to have those feelings and experiences. You wonder if this is what closure is. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders, that your mind has been put to ease. Like you’ve finally closed a chapter of your life.
It’s the end of the year. All of you are halfway done with your diploma, if you’re not counting the internship and only the lectures and workshops. But it’s unfathomable how fast time moves when you don’t take notice or count the seconds ticking as you sit idly by. Your first year is over — and you can still remember coming to this institution months ago wide-eyed and nervous. It wasn’t that long ago, but you can also see the light at the end of the tunnel, the end coming near. A lot has happened and a lot still needs to occur. “Your internships are starting on the fourth?! Lucky, you guys get like a whole week break,” Taehyung grumbles, pouting. “I haven’t even finished packing and I’m leaving tomorrow.” “You’re going to a catering company, right?” “Yeah.” Taehyung perks up with a smile. “I might be starting sooner, but on the bright side, at least I’m not making wedding cakes.” “Why does everyone hate wedding cakes so much?” You take offence, defending your internship that you’re actually excited for. “Maybe because it’s probably one of the hardest things you could make. Wedding cakes are humongous. It’s laborious and takes days to make. There’s a reason why they’re so expensive.” Yoongi leans back as he’s proving his point. “Plus have you ever worked with bridezillas before who want everything perfect? There are Karens galore. I’m not eager to work at a restaurant, but it’s still easier than a wedding cake company.” “I’m sure it won’t be that bad.” You have yet to learn how to actually make a wedding cake, but how hard can it be? At the end of the day, it’s just a bigger cake for a fancier occasion. You look over to Jungkook. “Right?” But he doesn’t look you in the eye. He mutters incoherently and when you roughly nudge him, he sighs. “I can’t say I’m….excited.” “Didn’t you want to go somewhere that works with chocolate?” Hoseok asks, his own internship at the Marriott hotel. It’s a sweet gig and apparently close to where Aeri will also be working for her own cooking fellowship. “Yeah.” Jungkook sighs again, running a hand through his black locks, picking up the habit of Jimin. Said man is already gone, left yesterday for a pastry shop in the city next door — a cute place he told you about called Bread & Butter. “But apparently the man who runs the place with his wife is a chocolatier.” “It’s not about the place, it’s about the mentor,” you chime and he remains unimpressed. “Yeah, yeah, yeah.” You quirk your head to the side, lashes batting. “What? Not excited to spend a whole summer with me?” Jungkook glances at you and then diverts his eyes quickly. He gives you no answer. You click your tongue in annoyance. At least Taehyung can appreciate it, openly wishing he was working with someone that he knew. Jungkook is probably the biggest reason why you aren’t afraid or anxious. You know you have each other’s backs, that you’ll learn together, and there’s no way he can be better at cakes than you are. The man might be good at his chocolate but his cakes are dry. // “Try not to rip each other’s heads off,” Hoseok says moments before getting on the bus, duffle bag in hand. He’s the last one to go. “Nah.” Jungkook throws his arm over your shoulder and pulls you towards his chest. “I still need someone to take the blame when things go wrong.” “Excuse me?!” You turn to him and he laughs boyishly, making you pout. Hoseok grins, bidding his last farewells before he gets on the bus and waves goodbye as the vehicle takes off down the road. It’s sad to see all your friends going to different places, to forge their own separate ways. But you know goodbyes are inevitable and that it won’t be long till their return. You’re just glad that right now Jungkook is with you. Campus empties out in the days that follow. Only you and Jungkook are staying in your dorm rooms over the summer. Hoseok is getting accommodation at the hotel he’s working for, Jimin is staying at a boarding house during the duration of his internship, and the rest going home where it’ll be more convenient for them. It’s eerie to see the paths so empty, the dining center closed down, and the corridors void of people and noisy conversation. It’s apocalyptic. A ghost town. There’s no one around but the pair of you. “Are you ready?” you ask, breaking the silence. You spin around on your heel with a smile to face him, attempting to bring up the somber mood. You don’t realize the small action has such a big impact. Jungkook’s heart stutters. Your hair is flying in the breeze, the side strands brushed away behind your ear. Your eyes are glimmering as the sun sets, casting a golden hue on you that makes you glow. And you look at him so happily. Jungkook has to resist the urge to pull you in. To kiss you. He doesn’t know how he’s going to spend an entire summer with you and just you. But he’s ready. “I am.” “I’m gonna crush you, Jeon.” You laugh, not helping with his situation. Jungkook wonders what it takes to capture this moment and make it tangible. “Make the best wedding cakes anyone has ever seen.” “You better walk the talk then.” “Course, I will.” Jungkook’s initial impression of you was never wrong. You’re stubborn, childish, a brat. You’re also annoying and irritating beyond belief. It’s amazing how sometimes you can just grind Jungkook’s gears without even knowing. But you’re also sensitive, sentimental, softer than he expected — and it’s what led him to have a closer view of you. From the time you bursted into tears in the kitchen to when he called out your name to join him for lunch. Bringing you over to his friends' place and his family for the holidays. Teaching you how to temper chocolate and making truffles on Valentines for your ex. Going out on the town to be his wingwoman and having you as his partner in a competition and winning. Those tiny moments lead him closer and closer. Little by little. One by one. Without him realizing…. In these months that you’ve spent together, Jungkook has become unequivocally captivated by you. “Y/N.” “What?” “I like you.” Jungkook admits it out loud. Unabashedly. He tried to get over it, ignore it, clear his mind. He did all of it while trying to keep you by his side as his best friend, but it didn’t work. He can’t. His feelings for you overwhelms him. It’s a container overflowed with spillage all over the sides — he can’t repress it and doesn’t want to. He faces it head on, even if it’s reckless. But you merely snort after a beat. “Thanks, grinch. I like me too. You’re not too, too bad, I guess.” There’s no way you’re this obtuse. You’re not dense. Jungkook knows you well enough and he suspects you’re feigning ignorance, maybe because you’re traumatized and not willing to risk friendship again. But he presses on, not allowing you to ignore his heart on his sleeve. “I mean it.” “I mean it too.” Jungkook assertively grabs your arm, stopping you in your tracks, He looks you dead in the eye, going for a bold strategy with no room for escape or for you to disregard what he’s spilling out to you. He corrects himself— “I’m in love with you.”

Have you ever read the rivetra fic "in all of the lives we are" on fanfiction net? Because I did and parts of it are canon in my head. What I really want to ask is :can you too please bless us with a canonverse reincarnation fic?
I haven't read it but I bookmarked it to read later! Thank you for the rec, anon! I have a canonverse reincarnation fic that I scrapped when I first got back into writing. I plan on writing one in the future with a lot more depth, but I'll share this draft since I don't plan on going back to this fic in particular. Warning, meh writing ahead 😅
“And then my soul saw you and it kind of went, "Oh, there you are. I've been looking for you.”
— Iain Thomas, I Wrote This For You
Childhood; where threads begin, or were they there all along?
The world is a cruel place, is the mantra Levi murmured to himself over and over again.
Kenny left him when he was 10 and after giving the police the run around, he found himself in a group home for children with disturbed conduct, also known as, the leftovers in the system. The leftovers that even foster care didn’t want to look twice at because everyone in this shitty place was just as fucked up as the last kid.
Mom, why did you have to die and leave me with Uncle Kenny? Did you know he was a gang leader? Or maybe you knew being part of a gang was better than this hellhole.
He wasn’t stupid, he knew his mother was a whore, and if the feds ever found out he was living in a brothel they would’ve taken him in an instant. So maybe it was luck that he had the amount of time with her that he did.
He still remembered how she desperately tried to shield him from her work, locking him in the closet when he was small, and when he got bigger, hiding underneath the bed and saying very sternly Levi, my love, you can’t make a sound or else mommy is going to get in trouble. Remember to cover your ears, just like we practiced.
And then when she died, it didn’t come suddenly. It was coughing in the middle of the night, him begging her to please let him find a doctor and he didn’t care about the consequences, he just wanted them to be together, but his mother shook her head and insisted she would be fine.
She wasn’t, of course, and Kenny both saved and damned him. He learned how to fend for himself, beat men twice his size, and take their wallet while they were recovering from his blows. He learned how to use a knife threaten people, and while his size threw people off, he used that to his advantage.
Even though he didn’t have his knives here, he knew how to fight hand to hand, and he was itching to land a blow to the next kid who tried to steal his dinner. It was his third month into the group home, and he was on his “last warning” as the head said, and next stop was juvie. He didn’t care, his life was at the end of the line and he was only 11.
“Hey, dip shit. Gimme your cookie.” Levi glanced at the boy who suddenly appeared, some new comer who clearly didn’t know his reputation. The boy was older and bigger than him, he guessed around 13 or 14, but he didn’t care. He ignored him and took a stab at the stale meatloaf.
“Did you fucking hear me? I said give me the goddamn cookie.” Levi sighed at the idiocy of this place, he knew what it was like to starve and despite the shit he gave this place, he couldn’t complain about the three (shitty) meals they got a day and the roof over his head. The company was much to be desired and that’s what usually got him into trouble.
“Tch. Go bother someone else, I’m not interested,” he said cooly, and the boy’s face grew red. Levi balled his left fist under the table, ready to throw a punch the minute he got too close to him.
“You little fucker—“ The boy began, but before Levi could take a swing at him, his shirt collar was pulled back by a smirking brown haired boy.
“Hey, hey, Matty, you don’t want to pick on him. Didn’t you hear that he landed Sam in the hospital last month?” Immediately the boy called Matty paled and backed off instantly.
“This little guy did that? Respect, Sam was a piece of shit anyway,” he muttered the last sentence and waved Levi away.
Levi shrugged and returned to his dinner, not paying the newcomer any mind but the boy took it upon himself to sit across from him, grinning. “You’re welcome,” he said, biting into his apple. “The name’s Furlan. You’re Levi, right?”
“Didn’t ask for your help,” Levi quipped, looking up at the eerily jolly boy, narrowing his eyes. “Since you know my reputation, you might not want to stick around.”
Furlan laughed, and Levi a twinge of irritation as he continued talking instead of walking away like everyone else did. “I don’t think you’re that scary, Levi. From what I heard, you don’t start fights, right? I think the guys think you’re an easy target since you’re…Well, don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re really short. Even though everyone’s afraid of you, I think, if they’re like me, they’re really just impressed that someone around here isn’t afraid to fight the bullies.”
Levi didn’t say anything to that, he was just trying to survive into the next fucking day, and didn’t think of himself as some sort of savior. But, if Farlan believed in him, maybe he wasn’t so fucked up as he thought.
He sighed, giving the boy a once over as he knew the step he was about to take. To be vulnerable. To give a shit about someone else for the first time in forever.
“So, what brought you here?” He said, as if he said those words before, the words rolling naturally off of his tongue not from an 11 year old, but someone who’s carried the weight of a lifetime.
And just like that, the threads intertwined again.
ii. Adolescence; where threads cross over but never touch
“First day of senior year, Eld! I have a good feeling about this—we’re going to ace our SATs, get into the same college, and we’re going to see the world!” Petra exclaimed, swinging her backpack as they walked to school. Eld chuckled, and flicked Petra’s forehead.
“See the world, huh? With what money? I don’t remember you applying to jobs with me and Gunther over the summer, and now you’re broke.”
Petra huffed and took a playful swipe at Eld’s shoulder. “You know I was helping my dad with his business over the summer. Oruo can vouch for me, he stopped by a couple times to help us—for free, no less!” Petra smiled, thinking about the laborious, but fruitful summer that her family had thanks to everyone’s hard work. Her dad’s hardware business was small compared to the big box stores, but their customers appreciated the charm and personalized customer care that the Ral’s offered. “He’s really grown up, hasn’t he? In grade school he wouldn’t be caught doing something without recognition, and I don’t even know if he mentioned to you two that he was helping out Fridays and Saturdays.”
“Hmm, yeah I guess you could say that,” Eld mused, shaking his head internally at Petra’s obliviousness. She, along with him, were usually the perceptive ones in their little friend group, but he supposed being childhood friends blinded her to certain things, like Oluo’s long time crush on her. Sure, he flirted with her, but he flirted with everyone, and it wasn’t until their sophomore year of high school that he started wanting to seriously date only Petra, but she took his advances as one of a matured best friend and less as a guy in love with his best friend. Eld wondered how involved he should get, maybe doing Oluo a favor and dropping a few hints to Petra that Oluo was a great guy despite his arrogance, and he has come along way since their freshman year.
But, the blond knew that Petra’s feelings for Oluo would remain as best friends, and after her most recent breakup with some guy who seemed like a short stint for junior prom and as a member of the girl’s soccer team, she couldn’t very well go alone…well, it wasn’t a surprise they parted ways shortly after prom.
She confided in Eld that she wanted to start college fresh and with new opportunities, and she would be damned if she let a guy decide her future. It wasn’t like she was going to turn down a date from a cute guy, but she wanted to be very clear that it wouldn’t be more than a few casual dates. Besides, she said to Eld and Gunther, one hazy summer evening when they were eating ice cream at the county fair, who needs a significant other when they all had each other? They then raucously toasted with their popsicles in the air to their future, wherever it took them, and love be damned!
#my fics#rivetra fanfiction#shitty WIP but maybe it'll motivate me to make a proper draft of a canon reincarnation

Secret Love Song
Hello, hello. Same message as last time! Donate, sign petitions, go to protests, if you want resources I will be happy to find them for you! Support BLM movements, black people should not have to fight for their right to live!
This was inspired by Secret Love Song Part II by Little Mix
I also still have two requests, so if you sent one of them in, please please please don’t think I forgot about you! I just suck!
__________________________
13 years old
Your mom insisted on having a party. Your neighbors were your best friends, and this year was ten years that they had moved in next door from Arizona. Keith was best friends with your dad, Chantal with your mom, and their three children were your best friends. Brady was closest to you in age, you were older by a little bit less than a year, which meant that you were still close enough in age that you were in the same classes until his parents decided he was going to go to Chaminade. Matthew was the annoying older brother who normally just included you in whatever teasing he released on Brady. Taryn was the younger sister who just hung around until her friends came along. Typically, it was just you and Brady.
The two of you were sitting by the pool, people going in and out of the house while Matthew was in the pool with some of the other kids from the neighborhood.
“So, if you were to date anyone here, who would it be?” Brady asked you.
“They have to be like, present at my house right now?”
“Yes.”
You look out to the pool, seeing no one that you would ever, in a million years, ever date.
“Do I have to?” you whine, not wanting to say anyone.
“Yes. Here, I’ll go first. I would date Maddison.”
“You really just asked me that question so you could admit that you like her, didn’t you?” He looks out at the pool to the girl he just mentioned, his entire face and his ears turning red, and not from the sun. You could read that boy like a book: every time she was mentioned, he lit up like a Christmas tree as his mom would say.
He doesn’t answer, “So, who would you date?”
“I guess, Matthew?” you say, throwing out a name. You’ve always had a small crush on him, but you could never tell that to Brady. But truth be told, you weren’t interested in any of those boys but him, so it was probably the only time you could be honest.
“What about me?” Matthew interrupts as Brady starts to say something, getting out of the pool and getting you wet.
“If I were held against my will only allowed out if I dated someone at this party, I would date you,” you exaggerate.
“Hm. Back at ya,” he winks, walking inside.
You feel heat rush to your face, just like Brady when Maddison was mentioned. You look at Brady, his eyes wide and mouth open. “Ok, no. Nope. Not letting that happen. Number one rule of friendship: you can’t date your best friends’ siblings.”
“It can’t be the number one rule if it only applies to one person. That can be, like, the eighth rule of friendship.”
“Fine. But no dating my brother. That’s gross.” He shudders at the thought of you two together. Nope. Gross.
“Just remember, you brought it up.”
16 years old
“Y/N, there’s a spot right here!” Matthew calls, patting the floor next to him. Everyone was sitting in a circle, playing spin the bottle. There wasn’t much to do in your neighborhood once it got dark; all the parents wanted you inside, so you, along with other kids in the area would just hang out in someone’s basement playing some stupid party game or watching a movie. Tonight wasn’t movie night.
“Alright, so whoever spins has to kiss whoever it lands on, and if you aren’t ok with kissing any given person in this group, then get out of the circle,” Maddison starts.
“How long is the kiss?” Brady asks, getting nervous. He wanted it to land on her; that crush of his only got worse as time went on.
“Uh, at least three seconds,” she says. Her house, her rules.
You look across at Brady. With his brother sitting in the circle, he definitely didn’t want to kiss him, but Matthew is never one to turn down a game like this. Brady was sitting in the circle hoping to have his first kiss with Maddison. You, honestly, wanted to kiss Matthew. But Brady couldn’t know you wanted it.
Maddison spins the bottle first. You can tell Brady is holding his breath, not breaking eye contact with the bottle as he prays that it lands on him, or at the very least, not on Matthew. Matthews elbow jabs your side, not hard enough to make you yelp, but hard enough that you jump a little and turn to him. “How much do you want to bet he freaks out if he has to kiss Mads.” The smile on his face is almost devilish like he wants Brady to freeze when it came to kissing his crush.
You can’t help but smile back, something about him looking you that way, you have to reciprocate. “Stop being mean, you know how much he likes her,” you whisper so he’s the only one that hears.
“The only thing that would make this better is if-” he starts, his eyes flicking down to your lips before Maddison’s spin stops on Brady.
You both burst out laughing as Maddison crawls over to Brady. His eyes are wide with panic, his entire face turning red even though you and Matthew both know how much he wants it. She grabs his face, kissing him. It takes him a second before he starts to kiss her back, only to be interrupted by Matthew yelling, “Atta boy, Brady!” You smack him in the chest, Brady pulling away, his face still bright red from the kiss.
“Wow,” was all Maddison could say as she went back to her original seat.
The rest of the game, you have your phone out, not paying attention to your surroundings, but talking to Brady about how his dream finally came true. Your best friend just kissed the girl he’s had a crush on for at least three years. There was no way you could be any less than ecstatic for him.
“Y/N!” you hear, snapping your attention away from your phone, “It’s your turn!” Maddison says.
You lean out and spin it. You want it to land on Matthew. But what would Brady say? You can feel your heart race as the bottle spins, slowing down to stop right in front of the person next to you. Of course. Brady groans at the thought of his brother and best friend making in out in front of him, everyone else cheering just out of the energy of the game.
You turn to him as Brady leaves, him not wanting to see what’s about to happen. You really don’t want him to, either. Before you can even think about leaning in, Matthew has his hands cupped around your face, kissing you so passionately you can’t even think. You feel your self about to fall back with him on top before everyone starts to cheer again, causing you to pull away in shock. All you can do is repeat after Maddison: Wow.
18 years old
“We can never tell Brady about this,” Matthew says, closing your bedroom door behind him.
“I’m aware of that. But, how do you expect me to keep something like this from him! He’s my best friend!” you say, trying not to yell knowing that there was a party going on downstairs for your high school graduation. That night after spin the bottle had lead to many nights of him sneaking out and coming over, you two going on dates without telling Brady, him calling you in the middle of dates and asking you to hang out for you to just lie to him about what you were doing. Matthew was your boyfriend, but your best friend couldn’t know.
“Hey, could you keep quiet? What do you think it’s like for me? He’s getting suspicious considering every time you’re brought up I apparently ‘change my mood,’” he uses air quotes, imitating his dad’s voice. “Brady isn’t an idiot, he knows I’m seeing someone and know you’re seeing someone. It’s only a matter of time before he puts two and two together.”
“What do you mean, you change your mood?” you tease, getting closer to him, resting your hands on his shoulders.
He pulls you closer by your waist, planting a kiss on the top of your head as the smell of his cologne wraps around you. “Apparently, I ‘light up like a Christmas tree’ whenever your name mentioned,” he says, imitating his mom this time.
“I kinda want to hear you do Taryn next,” you say, getting on your toes to kiss him.
He dodges it, his lips pursed in a smile, “That’s not a turn on, ya know.”
You both start laughing as you hear music start playing outside. He kisses you, holding you around the waist, saying back and forth to the rhythm coming from your yard. You stay like that for a couple of minutes, Brady wondering where you went, your mom looking for you so you could start cutting the cake.
“I wish we could have danced like this at my prom,” you say quietly. Your head is resting on Matthew’s chest, your eyes closed as you hear his heart beating.
He rubs your back, kissing the top of you head before resting his chin on it. “I know. But Maddison invited Brady as her date. It would have been so hard for me to keep my hands off you looking as gorgeous as you did.”
You look up at him, nervous to say it for the first time. You want to, because you do. You’re the only know who knows..
“Y/N!” you hear your mom calling from outside. “Come out here!”
You open your window, calling down to her that you’ll be down in a minute, Matthew’s hand already on the doorknob ready to leave.
“I love you,” you blurt out, not really sure why you chose now to say something like that to him.
He walks over to you, kissing you with the same passion as the first time you kissed that night in Maddison’s basement, his hands finding the small of your back, yours running through his hair. He pulls away when your mom calls your name again, a smile on his face, his eyes bright. “I love you, too.”
22 years old
Brady was surprised when you wanted to go to school in Calgary. One, your sights had been set on UCLA for as long as he could remember. Two, why would you choose a school in Canada that was close to his brother and not him? Three, Something was off when Matthew had suggested that you live with him to your parents so that they could save money on room and board; he was covering the rent already, and nothing changed cost-wise for you to live there. All they had to do was send money for food and he would be fine with you living there.
He had been suspicious that something was going on between you two, but you would never break your rule about dating him. Would you?
In Calgary, you were free to be a couple, so long as no one took a picture of you two being lovely and shit and posted it or tagged you in the photos. It was a new world from the one you had been in back home. You could say I love you in front of other people, you could walk down the street holding hands, he could drive you to your place and kiss you in the front seat before getting out and going upstairs for more. It was amazing.
For Thanksgiving, Brady was flying from Ottawa to Calgary to spend it with you two; their parents and sister were off doing something for field hockey, so it was the perfect excuse for Brady to see what you had been up to. It was also your birthday; the first one you would be spending with your best friend since he went off for that development team program.
“Happy birthday!” Brady yells in your face, tackling you in a hug once you open the door he had been incessantly knocking on for thirty seconds. He shoves a gift into your chest, beaming at the fact that he picked out the gift for you himself. “Open it now!”
You laugh, leading him into the living room of yours and Matthew’s place, Matthew sitting on the couch as the food finishes up in the oven. “Look what Brady got me,” you wave the gift in front of him. He hadn’t given you anything yet, but you knew he would. He always did, just a little later, and not out in the openness of his living room.
He rolls his eyes and smiles, trying not to pull you into him with you sitting that close, but with Brady there, he couldn’t. “Your birthday is technically tomorrow, you’ll get your gift later.”
You shake your head, looking up at Brady beaming. “Are you sure you want me to open this now?”
“Yes, please!” He’s practically bouncing up and down in his seat out of excitement. You unwrap the job that was clearly done himself to find a silver bracelet. The charm was the Senators logo, with Brady’s number on the back. “You’re my best friend, and now you can’t get rid of me. Plus, I got a bracelet since you always wear your grandmother’s necklace.”
You can’t help but smile. You get up and give him a hug, holding him tight. “I love it so much,” you say, slipping it on your wrist, “And, um, my grandmother’s necklace actually broke a while back. It’s costume jewelry, so it’s not like I could get it fixed anyway.”
Brady looks at Matthew who can’t seem to make eye contact with him, but is fixated on you instead. He’s looking at you the same way Brady looked at Maddison when they were dating. Something was definitely up.
The oven beeps, signaling it was time for dinner. You spend the entire dinner, the three of you, laughing, talking, at one point throwing pieces of bread at each other over some argument Brady and Matthew have been having since the dawn of time.
“So, Brads, are you taking the couch tonight?” you ask him as you clean up and put away the left over dinner.
“What, we’re not going to share your bed like we always do?”
You whip around, nearly dropped the spoonful of potatoes on the floor. You and Matthew had been sleeping together in the same bed every night since you started school. None of your family had come to visit and stayed the night to catch you, but tonight might be the first time. You hadn’t slept in ‘your bed’ ever, it was the guest room. “Um, sure!” you say, obviously panicked, “I just need to clean up a little bit, would you mind putting this stuff away?”
You practically throw the container at him, running to get Matthew. “Brady wants to share my room tonight but that’s going to be kind of hard considering all my stuff is in our room,” you whisper, pulling him down the hall.
“Well, fuck, what are we doing to do?”
“Move stuff from this room to that room?” you suggest, pulling stuff from the closet to at least throw on the floor. He doesn’t say anything, he just starts grabbing stuff from the drawers to put into the drawers there.
Matthew pushes the door to his room almost with you two inside, you still panicking over Brady wanting to share the bed with you. It’s not because it’s Brady, it’s because of Matthew. “How am I going to sleep without you tonight?” he asks, pulling close.
“I don’t know. We have to tell Brady,” you whisper.
“Not tonight. Not yet.”
“Babe, it’s been five and a half years. Five and a half years is a long time to be lying to my best friend and your brother.”
“I know. I know. We will before he leaves?” you don’t say anything as he kisses your forehead. “How about I give you that birthday gift now, huh?”
He goes to his nightstand, pulling out a box about the same size as Brady’s clearly wrapped by someone who wasn’t him. He sits down on the bed with you, not taking his eyes off you or letting his smile fade as you untie the ribbon. You pick up the gold chain, tears falling down your cheeks as you hold up the necklace, “My grandmother’s necklace?”
“I took the broken one to a jeweler and had him remake it; real gold, real pearls. That way if this one breaks, you can have it fixed properly,” he says, taking it from you to put it on you.
You can’t believe he would do something so thoughtful. You had no clue that he could even think of doing something like this. “I’m so in love with you. You really are the love of my life,” you say to him through the tears you aren’t holding back. “I love you, too,” he says, pulling you in for a kiss.
“You what?” you hear, snapping away from each other to see Brady standing in the doorway of Matthew’s room.
“Brady,” you get up and go to him, your tears turning from that of happiness of that of fear.
“How long?” is all he can say, not able to look at you or his brother.
“Since that night at Madison’s.”
“When we were 15 and 16?” He looks at you, hurt that you went this long without telling him. Hurt that you went that long breaking one of the most important rules of your friendship. Hurt that you were happy and that you thought you had to keep it from him.
You nod, Matthew standing up behind you, “Brady, we were going to tell you this weekend. Don’t be mad at Y/N.”
“Whatever. Forget it.” He storms off into the bedroom, shutting the door, the click of the lock following as you crumble into Matthew’s arms, sobbing.
The next morning, he was gone, on his way back to Ottawa without even saying goodbye.
23 years old
Christmas was the first time you were going to be home since celebrating your college graduation, only for you to move right back to Calgary. You had gotten a job in the area, working right after graduation. You hadn’t talked to Brady since the Thanksgiving before, him still mad at you for not telling him about you and Matthew. He had been talking to Matthew because they’re brothers and they had to.
“He’ll come around, I promise,” Matthew tells you on the phone. You look out across your backyard. Your families finally knew that you two were together, but still insisted on having you stay in your respective childhood homes. From your window, you could see into Brady’s room. He would always have his curtains open during the day so that you could see each other. Since getting home, he hasn’t opened them once. “Stop looking into my brother’s room, you freak,” he says, still on the phone. You know he’s just saying that to make you laugh. You look over to his room, him standing there, waving at you like a child seeing a character at Disney World on a parade float.
“Are you guys coming over for dinner later?” you ask him, trying to shake the fact that Brady still hates you off your mind.
“Of course! We would never miss Christmas Eve at your house!” You stay on the phone with him for a little while longer until his mom calls him to go downstairs.
“Alright, see you in a bit. I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he says, hanging up and closing his curtains.
You still had an hour before the Tkachuks and the rest of your family were coming over. You go downstairs to help your mom with the finishing touches as always, hearing her and your dad laughing and talking as the Christmas music plays in the background like every year. You get to the kitchen, “Hey, what can I help with?”
At the counter, Brady is standing there with a bowl in one hand, a spoon in the other, mixing who knows what. Your parents look at each other, “Brady will explain it,” your mom says, pulling your dad into the other room.
“Hi,” you let out, not really sure what to say.
“I’m sorry,” he starts, putting the bowl and spoon down and grabbing you in for a hug, “I shouldn’t have gotten mad like that.”
“No, you had the right to. I was lying to you for so long. You’re my best friend, Brads. I didn’t know what to do when I fell in love with the one person you told me not to.”
“It’s not like I can control your feelings. And I certainly can’t control my brothers.” You both laugh, still hugging.
“Are we back to talking now?”
“Of course.”
“And we can be best friends again?”
He leans away, smiling, tears on his cheeks, something you had never seen before, “We always have been and always will. You can’t get rid of me that easily.
“I told you it would work out,” you hear, causing you to jump. Matthew walks up to the two of you, pulling you in for one big hug.
“Well?” Brady asks, pulling away, “Are you gonna ask?”
“Right now?” Matthew asks, “I thought we wanted to do it later!”
“No. Now. Right now.” Brady goes for Matthew’s pocket’s him swatting his younger brother away.
“Jesus, no, get off of me!”
“What are you two talking about?” you ask, Brady with a stupid smile on his face and Matthew looking more nervous than ever.
“This,” Matthew says, holding out a ring.
“Are you-?” you start.
“Will you marry him?” Brady asks, jumping up and down.
“Dude!” Matthew smacks him with his other hand as you start crying, “That was my line!”
Between their bickering, you manage to let out, “Yes!”
“Yes?”
“She said yes!” Brady yells, your parents and the Tkachuks coming into the room and hugging you three as Matthew slips the ring on your finger.
“Now you’re really stuck with me,” Brady jokes, lifting you up in a hug,
“Dude! Just shut up and let me have my moment with her!” Matthew says, prying you away from him.
“You’re going to be fighting over me for the rest of your life,” you laugh, hugging both of them.

fic: like you’d get your knuckles bloody (betty/archie, riverdale)
fandom: riverdale pairing: archie andrews/betty cooper, barchie There were so many choices that felt so small at the time. It seemed as if she blinked while getting a refill of her milkshake at Pop’s and woke up in a forest, covered in her boyfriend’s blood. She had been so many Betties between them - in a bunker, at the farm, chasing down a masked killer, in a black wig, holding Chuck Clayton’s head under water —
Standing beneath her porch light, her heart in her throat while Archie Andrews said, “I can’t give you the answer that you want.”
Was that the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?--
Betty Cooper, before-and-after.
Her sense of narrative structure made her wish it was as easy as a before-and-after.
There was such clarity in a defining moment, in being able to spot the time when everything changed. There was a Cheryl before and after Jason died; a Jughead before and after he slipped on the Serpent jacket; the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Veronica before she turned In Cold Blood.
There was no clean before-and-after for Betty Cooper. There were so many choices that felt so small at the time. It seemed as if she blinked while getting a refill of her milkshake at Pop’s and woke up in a forest, covered in her boyfriend’s blood. She had been so many Betties between then - in a bunker, at the farm, chasing down a masked killer, in a black wig, holding Chuck Clayton’s head under water —
Standing beneath her porch light, her heart in her throat while Archie Andrews said, “I can’t give you the answer that you want.”
Was that the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?
——
The old Betty, wherever she began and ended, was characterized by her discipline.
Every day, she suited up in her prim cardigans and slick ponytail, ready for another day as the dutiful daughter, the doting sister, the star student. She could handle any pop quiz, any turbulence in the Cooper household, any pressing deadlines at the Blue and Gold. When the pressure got to be too much, she would clench her fists and breathe through it.
And every night, she looked out her bedroom window at what she really wanted. Second floor, second window from the back, calling to her like a lighthouse. Archie’s window was lit up at all hours of the day and night, whether he was strumming his guitar or dozing off with a movie on. It was her nightlight. She fell asleep to its comforting glow, knowing their time would come one day.
She had to be disciplined, because she was hungry. Sometimes it scared her, how strongly she felt. There was a bottomless pit of want inside of her and she tiptoed around it, testing the edges but never letting herself fall in. Betty didn’t want to be the kind of person who was dragged around by her id. She wanted to be the person that other people thought she was. Sometimes that meant sleepless nights helping Polly learn her cheer routine, piling more volunteer hours on top of her already packed schedule, turning the other cheek to another Blossom insult.
Season five Betty Draper, Cheryl had once called her, as if she knew the half of it.
——
Betty had never thought Archie would love her in the exact way that she loved him.
She knew that love took different shapes in each container. She could see the way her mother and father fit together, pushing and pulling but ultimately a team, making each other better - a real laugh, in retrospect. One of her favorite memories was being eight years old, when Alice had just broken a big story. The pride lit her up from the inside and Hal’s beaming face reflected it right back. But she had also watched from next door as the Andrews fell apart. Fred and Mary lost something that seemed sweet and steady and kind, and then Fred puttered around that big house alone.
She thought about what that love might feel like, when it finally came.
Archie was all sweetness. Being his girlfriend would mean never walking to school alone, sporting his letterman jacket at games, and dancing together at prom. It would be afternoons working on a jalopy in the garage and nights cuddling together on the sofa. He would write songs about her and she would proofread his college essays and they would move to New York together after graduation.
It would be an awful lot like being his friend had been since they turned 13 and their parents had put a moratorium on sleepovers, except that she would get to touch the abs that had been taunting her. The heart that beat under those defined pectoral muscles was pure gold and it was an even better prize.
Something murkier lay beneath the surface for Betty. Sometimes she wondered if she loved him or if she coveted him. She wanted to know every thought in his head, every dream in his heart. Long before the school hallways had started to echo with Archie got hot!, she had been daydreaming about ways to get his hands on her. There were no dibs on a person, but she saw him first and had seen only him since.
Betty had never thought that Archie would burn for her, but she basked in his steady glow. Archie lived closer to the surface - he wore his heart on his sleeve and an easy smile on his face. That was one of the things she loved about him. They would be so happy together, but his devotion would never match hers.
It wasn’t until she was standing at the edge of a shallow grave, looking down at his terrified, resolved face with a shovel in her hand and a gun to her head, that she realized they may have misjudged each other.
——
A dam had broken in Betty Cooper earlier that fall.
It could have been one thing or any number of things — Veronica Lodge sweeping into town, Polly’s mysterious disappearance, Jason Blossom’s body washing up in Sweetwater River. It was an unusually active September, especially by Riverdale’s sleepy standards.
For Betty, it felt like the foundation had been cracking. With one firm tap, it was gone.
You are so perfect. I’ve never been good enough for you, I’ll never be good enough for you.
The careful balancing of what she should want versus what she did want is what had kept her in check for all these years. No one else seemed to have the same qualms. Betty couldn’t imagine Cheryl or Veronica denying themselves a thing. In fact, she knew they wouldn’t. Veronica had talked a big game about turning over a new leaf, but after less than a week in Riverdale, Veronica had seven minutes in a closet and Betty had a box of Magnolia cupcakes.
Only Betty had the discipline to decide to be something and then become it. It had gotten harder for her to see how that was a good thing.
— —
Jughead’s interest in Betty was both a balm and a sting.
Boys had never been interested in her. She wasn’t sure if it was because word of her strict parents preceded her or because her crush on Archie was so obvious that it was not worth getting their hopes up. Whatever the reason, she had made it sixteen years without being asked to the drive-in, having a note slipped in her locker, or having rocks thrown at her window by someone who wanted to date her. She did all those things with her best friend and had become aware that it was not the same.
Until Jughead crawled through her window and gave her her first real kiss, she didn’t realize exactly how different it was.
Being on the other side of the equation was a revelation. It was amazing to think that there was someone who liked her more than anyone else, who thought about her when she wasn’t around, who wanted to kiss her and hold her hand and maybe more one day. Jughead was a good person - he was cute and smart, with a wicked sense of humor that tickled at the dark side she kept such a lid on - but what made him special is that he thought she was special. Betty had never come first to anyone before and she dove into intimacy with the same enthusiasm and determination that she put into any task.
But it was her way to acknowledge the cloud even while she focused on the silver lining. Besides her, Jughead was Archie’s best friend in the world. If other boys had avoided her due to some unspoken claim, surely he would find her to be even further off limits. If Jughead liked her, it was because Archie never would.
Somehow it was more devastating than the rejection itself. A dramatic showdown in formalwear still fit with the narrative that she had imagined for Archie-and-Betty. Power couples faced obstacles. Even after homecoming, even after Melody, even after Veronica, a part of her still though she should be patient. It was the utter lack of drama in her courtship with Jughead that made it real. There was nothing to be dramatic about.
She made her peace with it, first with her nails dug into her palms but then genuinely. The pieces of her heart felt like they were rearranging. Jughead had burst his way in and made his home right in the center. The part that housed her feelings for Archie was smaller, but the scars had made the walls thick and tough.
She would always love him and now she knew what shape it would take. She felt lucky to have enough love in her life that she could feel the difference.
It took a few months, but Betty started to think Jughead might be her soulmate. They both felt a personal obligation to clean up Riverdale’s seedy underbelly, loved books and old movies, and, most importantly, they hated the same things about her. On his lips, “perfect” was scornful. After all of those years pursuing perfection, she wasn’t too fond of it herself.
——
People gave you a wide berth in the aftermath of a showdown with a killer.
Betty was distracted and distant in the weeks following the altercation with Joseph Svenson. People around town stared and whispered even more than usual, but they looked at her with pity and awe in their eyes. Even her mother and Jughead gave her space, assuming that she was reeling after weeks of cat-and-mouse.
When she was alone, Betty didn’t think about Joseph Svenson at all. She thought about Archie Andrews.
It wasn’t about the kiss, although it was hardly the one she had scripted for them long ago. She thought about the way that he had grabbed her hand as she put the pieces together and started to spiral, the only thing tethering her to this earth. She thought about how instantly he had responded to Get in the coffin or I’ll shoot her in the head right now.
To be willing to die for someone was the kind of sweeping statement of love and dedication that was easy to say because it was so unlikely to be tested. It was reserved for the most important people in your life, the ones that you would do anything to protect. When she was in danger, Archie hadn’t batted an eye. When she closed her eyes, all she could see was him lowering himself into a coffin for her. She had been looking at that face for years and years, had known it when it had a beaming smile of mismatched baby teeth, had admired its changing angles. His jaw was clenched but his eyes were as warm as ever when the lid closed over him.
It was unbelievable to think that only weeks ago, kisses and milkshakes had made her feel special. It wasn’t fair to hold up a high school romance against the ultimate sacrifice, but the tectonic plates of her life had shifted again. It was a secret humming under her skin. It was heady to know that there was someone in the world who would do anything for you.
In a way, the showdown with the Black Hood was the most romantic night of her life. That was Riverdale for you.
— —
Betty stopped thinking about Hal Cooper almost as soon as he was locked away. She had spent so much time pouring over the Black Hood and puzzling over her family secrets that when she tried to align the man with the father, none of the pieces fit quite right anymore. After the loss of Hal and Polly, the Cooper family structure coalesced neatly around Betty and Alice as if it had always just been them.
Compartmentalizing and moving on was another discipline that Betty excelled at. Most of the time, anyway.
She thought about Fred Andrews all the time. The lights were out in Archie’s room for the first time that she could remember, but she knew that he was home. The loss was unspeakable, so she never tried.
— —
Even for someone good at compartmentalizing, it could be hard for Betty to separate the way she felt about Veronica from how she felt about Veronica Lodge.
The simple truth is that they were friends because Veronica had decided they were friends. Betty had been skeptical but a little bit flattered. She had written Veronica off at first, sure that she would move on and nestle in at Cheryl's side like two rich bitch peas in a pod, but she had persisted.
No one had ever wanted to be her friend that desperately. Despite what her frilly pink sweaters might imply, she had never been much of a girl’s girl. Her only real friends were Archie and Kevin. That had always been more than enough for her, but there was something to be said for having Veronica in her corner.
But the only person better at compartmentalizing than Betty was Veronica Lodge. Veronica could claim that she was destined to be Betty’s best friend while snatching her lifelong crush out from under her. She could disavow her family’s shady business dealings, then join Lodge Industries and keep quiet about their plans for the Southside. She could love Archie, then sit by while her father destroys his life.
Betty had been tap dancing around questions of morality for a while. One did not get to make too many principled stances when their boyfriend was a gang leader who once partially skinned a woman, and she tried not to throw too many stones from inside a house where she had once blackmailed Cheryl Blossom into testifying on behalf of FP Jones. As she started to shed more and more of her Nice Girl persona, Betty thought she had become more understanding of all the gray in the world.
In a sweltering court room after Labor Day weekend, Betty had found the thing she could never forgive. She watched stupid - noble, self-sacrificing, stupid - Archie jump at a plea deal for a crime he had not committed, all to spare them another trial. Veronica had cried and dropped her head into her hands, but Betty could still see flickers of her in Hiram Lodge’s satisfied smile.
Betty held her friend as she cried and clamped down on her latest intrusive thought - none of this would be happening if it weren’t for you. From learning to read to wrestling him from Ms. Grundy’s clutches, there had never been a problem Betty could not solve for Archie until he crossed Hiram’s path. There was nothing Betty wouldn't do for Archie, but there was nothing she could do for him now, so she averted her teary eyes and tried not to let in the darkness that always seemed so close to the surface now.
Meeting Veronica Lodge was the worst thing that had ever happened to any of them.
— —
When Betty used to dream of Archie as the leading man in every romance, she had imagined kissing him with a frequency that made her blush to think about even now.
She had been inexperienced and was not even sure what she was longing for. In her mind’s eye, she saw him in everything - the foot pop at the end of The Princess Diaries, the foggy window in Titanic, on the dock in The Notebook - hell, even Spiderman dangling upside down in the rain. It was a collage of images that she could not quite attach a sensation to, but it made her blood run a bit hotter.
When Betty tried to flesh out her fantasies, she relied on a few tangible things she did know - the smell of his cologne, which she had picked out; his increasingly hard biceps, flexing under her fingers when they linked arms on the way to school; the way his hair felt when she playfully ruffled it; the slow drag of his fingers across her back and stomach, when he was winding up to tickle her.
It was almost like an out of body experience when she flung the microphone to the ground. Betty was somewhere else in the garage as she and Archie sang, circling the microphone, their traded glances growing less playful and more searching, until he swung the guitar behind his back and reached for her.
The touch of his hand was like it had always been, the tether that held her to earth and made sure she didn’t miss a thing. Betty had never been more present. After all those years of patience and restraint, she couldn’t get close enough.
— —
There was no clear before-and-after for Archie Andrews.
He had come a long way from being the boy-next-door. He had been the star football player and the sensitive musician. He had been groomed by his music teacher and apprenticed at the foot of a mobster. He had started a youth center for the underprivileged and shattered his hand pulling Cheryl Blossom out of a frozen river. It felt like a lifetime ago that it had just been Betty and Archie in a booth at Pop’s, but Betty didn’t feel like he had changed at all. When she looked into his eyes, she saw the same person staring back at her that she always had.
When there was such a bone-deep understanding, how could she ever feel like he was different? With every step he took, she was right there too.
It dawned on Betty that maybe her before-and-after had happened long before she started looking for it. There was a Betty Cooper before she loved Archie Andrews and she had been living in the after since she was 11 years old.
She flipped through her diaries, years and years of little choices. Her next one felt big.

I’ve discovered something in the young zen master chronicles.
k, so i found this...
Ep. 1: Pyrosabre
Alexis gets her first crush on this dude named Jake Abielle and doesn’t know how to handle it at all. Robin helps her out by showing her some tricks like rubbing an ice-cold blue rag on her face to keep from blushing and focusing on books and school to keep from staring and drooling. Meanwhile, Ryder is revealed to have Japanese heritage and the katana he was given by his grandfather was stolen, so he, Blake, and Eren (uh oh) go on a mission to get it back, going through things like mean old grannies and big scary dogs, but when they do get it back, Ryder sees it broken. He is then villainized into Pyrosabre, a villain with a fire sword. HE is also backed up by the Stone Samurai (I’m bringing Syndromena to the Enchanton world).
Ep. 2: Rouge Hunter
While Robin, Alexis, and Penelope are doing homework, a man knocks on the door frantically and asks to hide because “bad people” were hunting him. Robin and Penelope welcome him to hide, but Alexis has a gut feeling that something is up with this guy. He soon confesses that the “bad people” are the police and he was being chased for stealing, but he never knew that candy bar slipped into his back pocket. Meanwhile, Blake befriends this guy named Matheo Frexia, who is obsessed with the comic series, Rogue Hunter. After Blake leaves him for some friends for a moment, he is beaten up and teased. He is then villainized into Rouge Hunter, armed with a laser staff and gravitational manipulation.
Ep. 3: General Renegade
Nathan Baker, a student suffering from depression, is shocked when his super strict army dad subs for his teacher. His dad does everything he did to him to the other students. He was furious. Meanwhile, Robin, Blake, Oliver, and Alexis are locked in a surprisingly big storage closet. Alexis just sits there and plays Hyrule Warriors, Oliver and Blake tried to get out the normal way, while Robin tried to convince them to let her use a crowbar. Back to Nathan, he snaps and yells at his dad, who is unaffected, but Nathan is villainized into General Renegade, a shirtless buff military fighter with the ability to summon any firearm.
Ep. 4: Hardlight
In class, Emerald finds out a dark secret about Alexis that would ruin her if it got out. This was too good to pass up, so Emerald forced Alexis to be her assistant for weeks until Alexis gets tired of it and outbursts in the middle of prom, “I don’t care anymore! Tell everyone! I’m done with this!” and runs out. She is then villainized into Hardlight, a villain who can copy powers from any video games she has on her switch.
Ep. 5: Prince Action
Oliver tries out for the Gallery of Evil, ran by Jackie Sullivan, who is nice to him, but not his son, which Oliver doesn’t like. He tries to help Jackie’s son impress his dad. Meanwhile, Blake gets a new adopted sister, Adrianna and they get into some shenanigans with some of Adrianna’s friends, but it is eventually resolved. Back to Oliver, he tries to help impress Jackie, which just explodes in all of their faces. Jackie yells at his son, but Oliver takes the blame and is promptly fired. Oliver is then villainized into Prince Action, a villain who can make people copy his exact movements with a pink zap of energy.
Ep. 6: The Cerberus of Pain
Ambre gets a new life goal, to discover the identities of Firefly and King Claw. Her parents try to warn her to stop and that she’ll get hurt, but she doesn’t listen. Meanwhile, Robin, Penelope, Blake, Oliver, and Ryder get stuck in a weird argument between Nathan’s parents while stuck at his house. If you could describe awkwardly, this was it. Soon, Ambre gets hurt and ends up breaking her wrist. Ambre’s parents feel guilty and are villainized into the Cerberus of Pain, a two-headed wolf set on destroying the two heroes and protecting Ambre.
Ep. 7: Homerun
Dr. Syndromena is thinking of ending his deal with Phorah, but before he does, Phorah thinks of a master plan. Meanwhile, Robin is watching her little brother Zachiriah play for the baseball team because he needs support. But Robin has to leave when she notices a villain on the loose. She leaves her younger brother and without her, Zachiriah flops. He is villainized into Homerun, but they also have to deal with a villainized scientific creation named M09\erekin. This is too much, so they must call on a new hero to help them save the day.
Ep. 8: Clover
Robin and Blake get trapped in the school for the weekend, so they get into all types of shenanigans. Meanwhile, Penelope and Paige get imprisoned by pirates (don’t ask), while Penelope is missing her little sister’s birthday party. Penelope loses enough hope to get villainized into Clover, a villain who has extremely good luck and all she uses is a freaking fishing pole with whip-like properties. Robin and Blake are out of commission, so can Queen Dove handle this herself?
Ep. 9: IceHeart
It’s been 2 years since Darius came out, and it didn’t affect the school until Emerald got ahold of his diary. He managed to get it back, only to realize it was a fake. Meanwhile, Eren asks Robin to date him, right in front of Oliver, causing him to get, really, really mad. He walks out before Robin answers Eren, and now Phorah is having a hard time choosing to villainize Darius or Oliver. He ends up choosing Darius and turning him into IceHeart, a villain who can Ice Manipulation abilities.
Ep. 10: Enchanton Origins I
This is the first look back at how the Enchantons were made. The first master, Kino, visits the realm of Syria and is on a hunt for the Lion, Elephant, and Raven Kings and Queens to empower the crystals to make them Enchantons. He has to prove himself worthy to The Lion King (Hakuna Matata) by beating his lackeys, but the Elephant King has the balls to fight Kino himself. The Raven King runs away the entire time and Kino has to catch him to get his power.
Ep. 11: Tidal Brave
Liam comes to the sudden realization that he was gay, after crushing on Darius for a few weeks. He learns to play guitar and when Darius and Liam are together in private, Liam sings a love song to Darius, confessing his love. Meanwhile, Matheo, Robin, Paige, and Penelope create their own country for a social studies project, but it was so good, people encouraged them to expand on it and they even create a restaurant in the cafeteria based on their fake country. Back to Liarius, Darius blushes, but due to him being equivalent to a fragile disaster time 3, he runs out because he’s so shocked. He takes this as rejection and is villainized into Tidal Brave, a villain with the ability to manipulate water with his guitar.
Ep. 12: Rapture Rider
While Landon was driving on her motorcycle, she causes a few thugs to crash, so they jump her and take her bike. She sighs in defeat and cries on the school step until Oliver, Blake, and Eren find her and when she tells them, they all go on a mission to get it back, kind of like Pyrosabre, but instead of booby traps, they have to convince the gang leader to let them get it back. Landon loses all hope and is villainized into Rapture Rider, a villain who has an epic flying missile shooting motorcycle with a pistol that shoots lightning, backed up by Stone Samurai on Motorcycles!
Ep. 13: Enchanton Origins II
Kino goes on a journey to get power for the Firefly, Dragon, and Griffin Enchanton, but this goes super wrong. The Firefly Queen is obsessed with love and tasks Kino to find her true love to get the power, but in the end, Kino turns out to be her true love. The Dragon King tasks Kino in finding him a great home to raise his kids, but since most of the realm is taken, he has a tough journey. The Griffin King hates other realms because they are selfish, so Kino has to prove that they are not.
Ep. 14: Queen Sugar
Adrianna, Blake’s new adoptive sister, decides to help out with Konnos Kametra (Robin & Friends’ New Restaurant), by making sweets and such. Meanwhile, Liam, Darius, and Hannah get roped into a dog racing contest and spend, like, half the episode prepping their dogs with the best gadgets and motivations they could. Back to Konnos Kametra, Ambre decides to eat some of Adrianna’s pastries, and it didn’t really get her approval, and by that, she spit it out at Adrianna and insulted her, and walked away. Adrianna drops a tear and is villainized into Queen Sugar, a villain with pastry and candy-based weapons, and is backed up by the new Ground Snakes. Her pastry bombs pack too much of a punch, so they need a new heavy-duty hero!
Ep. 15: Queen Venom
A superfan of Firefly, Hannah, starts following them around on patrols or even to fight superheroes. They have to find a way to get her off their backs. Meanwhile, Mr. Arbo is having some trouble with his wife, and in the middle of class, he has to step out, but his yells can be heard through the classroom door. Back to the heroes, Hannah almost gets hurt by a villain, and this causes Firefly to lose it on her for like 2 minutes, then leave with King Claw. Hannah is then villainized into Queen Venom, a villain who takes on the abilities of a spider.
Ep. 16: Powerfist
A girl named Maybelle is bullying Eren, not verbal bullying, hitting him, and throwing him bullying, so Eren has to do something about this. Meanwhile, Oliver finally asks Robin out, and to which Robin happily says yes. Yay, Robiver! But on their first date, the restaurant they go to is invaded by robbers, so the two have to team up and stall while the police are on their way. Meanwhile, the principal catches Maybelle in the middle of beating up Eren, and she is straight up expelled. She is then villainized into Powerfist, a villain who can release shockwaves when she punches.
Ep. 17: Moonstrike
While on a school field trip, Blake meets a young female sculptor named Cami and she gets hooked immediately. Meanwhile, Oliver accidentally cracks a sculptor and spends a lot of the episode to try and fix it. Back to Blami, Cami confesses her love, but Blake promptly turned her down because he liked someone else, but this caused Cami to be villainized into Moonstrike, a villain with a moon-based weapon and the ability to give statues life and powers.
Ep. 18: Castor De Rouge
On Halloween, while trick or treating, Robin, Blake, Alexis, and Oliver are kidnapped by some Halloween-dressed thugs. Meanwhile, One of Zechariah's friends is very disappointed that there is no candy on any street. They decide to split up, but when that friend comes back with more candy, they decide to steal her candy and run away. She is then villainized into Castor De Rouge, a pre-teen vampire with all vampire abilities.
Ep. 19: Bridezilla
Robin's mom fell in love with a man a few years ago after her dad died. They are about to get married, but something goes wrong. Meanwhile, Blake and Adrianna end up accidentally convincing a couple of bike thugs to rob a store, and now have to convince them not to. Back to the wedding, Robin's mom's (Jess) jealous aunt comes wearing a white dress. They don't think much of it, but her kids ruin everything and even throw a red drink on Jess's dress. Jess is then villainized into Bridezilla, a villain who can throw explosive flowers and encase anyone jealous of anyone in brass.
Ep. 20: The Living Time Capsule
Right after defeating a villain, Firefly and King Claw go for a break, but then they are attacked by another villain. This one was different, it was from the future. This villain proves to be too strong for all 4 of the heroes, so they retreat, and that is where they run into Paige, who says she got a message in her dreams. She leads them to a closet, and when they open it, they see something/someone amazing.
Ep. 21: Spectre
Eren is still getting beat up by Maybelle, before and after school, unfortunately, there is no one with the balls to take on Maybelle. She takes it too far when she decides to start beating up Eren's little sister (only by 2 years). Eren is then villainized into Spectre, a villain with intense speed and phasing abilities. We need a new hero who is fast and smart enough to combat Spectre. But we don't get that.
Ep. 22: Dark Horse
Ambre gets a little too carried away by being a superhero and she reveals her identity to a few people including Oliver, to get him impressed, Robin, to show that she's better than her, and her parents, to show that she can take care of herself. Firefly has enough, then attempts to use a special Enchanton Magnet to take Ambre's Enchanton away. Ambre then runs away and is so hurt that Firefly lectured her and tried to take her Enchanton. She is villainized into Dark Horse, a villain who can summon horses at will and has the powers of the Horse Enchanton, but multiplied times 20.
in Grammarly, and it’s from about 3 years ago I think. I was trying to write an original story heavily based off of Miraculous Ladybug. But I was very bad at writing back then. So, I just wrote these episode prompts. I decided to let the 2 and a half people who follow me read it because there really isn’t anything else to do with it. Actually, nevermind, I might find a way to make something out of this.

1 9 and 26 :)
1. What’s something “stereotypically” butch you do?
A better question would be what's a stereotypically butch thing I don't do since I think I have most of them covered. But I would say like, have short hair and an undercut, wear suits to formal occasions, not get penetrated, and try to do chivalrous things for femmes/women and nbs in general 😊
9. Tell us about your gay awakening?
It's a very long answer so strap in! Okay, so when I was 13 one of my best friends at the time came out as bisexual. I started questioning my sexuality too; I asked her questions to get her take on whether or not she thought I had a crush on this other girl. (In retrospect, I also remember being really annoyed that she had a crush on another girl and wanted to touch our friend’s boobs instead of mine and then one night she finally did it and I was like “finally.”) I couldn’t come up with a satisfactory answer and she was getting bullied a lot for coming out, so I basically procrastinated dealing with that question. I also might have had a crush on a girl at age 11 but I guess it didn’t make much of an impression/concern for me? Then when I was like 16, i saw a post that was like “when you ask someone who they’d go gay for and they start listing like 20 names it’s like....honey....” and I was like haha and then like, wait....I didn’t realize you were only supposed to have like 2 and all my friends at the time were future queers so we were all enabling each other. My sexuality had just been like ?????? for like 3 years at that point and I think at some point I was like okay, I do like girls. (This was after years of like, googling "am I gay quiz," having skimpy celebrity women on the wall by my bed that I could clearly see when I jerked off as an “inspiration board,” putting an article about the first lesbian prom king and queen up on my wall and being like wow I’m such a good ally, imagining the ideal version of myself as bisexual, having weird obsessions with fictional female characters, you get it.) Anyway I came out to a few people when I was 17 and promised myself I would be fully out when I was in college cause I was in a Catholic all-girls’ school and the administration didn’t like me already, so I was a little nervous. I also hooked up with a girl that year and then they put her locker right next to mine senior year.
26. If you could be doing anything right now what would it be?
Being in NYC, legitimately anywhere, especially at one of my favorite restaurants or some cool new attraction like the Ice Cream Museum, the Union Square Christmas Market or my old staple, Washington Square Park (preferably with money and even more preferably with my girlfriend beside me).
Thanks for the asks friend 💜

‘The Art of the Reboot: Why I like Roswell: New Mexico’
In a word: Ugh.
It was like everywhere I turned, there they were. Remakes. Reboots. Reimaginings.
Hollywood just could not let it go. I got it. Nostalgia could be a hell of a drug. However…was nothing sacred. Nostalgia was that for a reason. A nice memory from when you were a kid. That time when things were simpler. It was fun. It was vivid with delights. So no one wants such a thing tainted.
“So when are you watching it?”
What was the show this time? Charmed. After such a success with superhero shows, The CW was branching out into reboots of old TV shows like Roswell and Charmed. Charmed was a show about three sisters who were part of a long line of witches. It ran on the defunct WB network from 1998-2006 and starred Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and (later on) Rose McGowan. All actresses that I liked.
Great memories were attached to that show. My sister, brother, mother, me, and my nieces and nephew could be counted on to be around the television watching it. I still remembered how my sister loved how fierce the Halliwell sisters dressed. And who did not want to have Prue’s power to move things with your mind…or Piper’s power to freeze…or angst over Phoebe getting a love life. Yeah, good times.
“I don’t know,” I replied to the question. “I don’t even really want to watch it. Maybe a hatewatch.”
Hatewatch. When you watched a show because you disliked it so much that you sat there and nitpicked it to death. Something I felt that I would do to Charmed. I just did not see a reason to bring it back.
That was the same way I felt about the news of Roswell, New Mexico. Old School Roswell was on the WB (and later on UPN) as well, running from 1999 to 2002. I was a late starter to it, drawn in by the potential sci-fi, but who didn’t love the relationship between main alien Max and human teenager Liz or the sparring between alien Michael and feisty Maria? Yeah, I admit that I was curious to see how it would do. I did not have much faith in it. Perhaps just another hate-watch.
I was wrong.
So What Makes It Work: Plot and Character on Roswell New Mexico
What makes a good reboot?
Well for one, it could not be a retrace of what came before. Been there, done that. Have the T-shirt. Who would want to see that AGAIN when you already did it? Also like a sequel to a successful movie, most times one cannot beat out the original.
For another, a good reboot also respected what came before as well as attempted to do something new with the source material which began as a book series by Melinda Metz. A good reboot was a balancing act, a case for nostalgia while being fresh.
And coming away from the first season of Roswell, New Mexico…it was.
Old School Roswell was about the idea that aliens were among us and trying to fit in while they explored their origins. They were always in fear of being discovered. At the same time, they could not help, but feel ‘other.’ Into this main alien Max Evans and human Liz Parker fell in love.
New School Roswell was respectful to that with a twist…Max and Liz (as well as their friends) were all aged up a decade into adulthood versus the high school years of the original. And just like Old School Max pined for Liz, this version of Max had pined for Liz since they were kids. Both Lizs discovered the truth about Max and aliens after being healed by Max.
Another change that Roswell, New Mexico made…Liz taking back her name. Ortecho. In the books, Liz was of Mexican descent. In the WB/UPN show, Liz was played more like the typical smart teenager. In the reboot, the show never shied away from the fact Liz was of Mexican descent. It explored that fact and how it impacted her in the United States now. Given current events, that made Liz’s family life…her world…EXTREMELY relevant. And most importantly relatable.
Max feeling his otherness. Liz feeling her otherness. Quite a match. That wrote itself. And the closer they got to each other, the more they (and the viewers) learned about them.
Anyone who knew me or read my books (https://www.amazon.com/LaTorre-Mays/e/B00E0LUID4) knew that I loved duality. Quite a few characters on Roswell, New Mexico had that. Kyle had gone from typical jock hothead to compassionate doctor. Alien Michael liked to be bad cowboy playboy with the swagger to match to heart on his sleeves guy who loved one guy when he was not projecting an image. Even memories of Liz remembering her sister Rosa (something else different from the WB Roswell) revealed there was more to her sister than meets the eye.
Speaking of Rosa, the reboot kept something else that the original show had. Mystery mixed with some sci-fi and romance was the plot of the original show. Who was the fourth alien? Why were Max, Michael, and Isobel brought here? What had happened on their old planet? Who were the Skins?
Roswell, New Mexico continued that plot tradition, but again did its own thing. The Season 1 mystery had to do with the events surrounding Rosa’s death. Was it an accident? If it was not (spoiler alert…it wasn’t) what happened? Who killed Rosa and why? On top of that…who was Rosa really? Good girl? Bad girl with toxic baggage? A misunderstood girl with a bag of secrets not her own? Not only that who was the murderer? The mystery surrounding her death built over Season 1’s 13 episodes. Even better, just when you thought you knew something, something else was revealed or was turned what was known on its ear. Like an onion, a fan pulled back its surface only to find more surface. Layers. Season 2 took the mystery idea a step farther by having Max, Isobel, and Michael dive into their alien origins, specifically what had happened to their parents and how that involved human ally (and one of Michael’s love interest) Alex’s family the Manes. That mystery as well, while slower than Season 1’s plot arc, revealed itself to also be an onion. Again…Layers.
But speaking of Alex, there was another thing Roswell, New Mexico also pulled out some originality on, but honored the original series.
The relationships.
What Keeps It Working: Relationships on Roswell, New Mexico
So what were you? A Stargrazer? Or maybe a Dreamer? Perhaps you were more for M&M aka Candy?
Old Roswell had its shippers before anyone knew what a shipper was. Shipper = people who loved a couple, worshipped them, and lived for every moment between those characters. Whether you loved the destiny pairing of Max/Liz, the Bickerson-ness of Maria/Michael, or the ‘opposite attracts’ aspect of Isobel/Alex, there were quite a few to choose from. And those could help in the case of bad writing, something that people debatably said about Season 2 and definitely said about Season 3.
And what ships they were. Even the reboot series did the now famous scene (also in the book as well) of Liz being shot and Max healing her. The scene of her pointing up to the scene after Max explained where he was from. The various scenes of Maria and Michael arguing, but that fire always bringing them together whether it was him watching her dance at the start of Season 2 or them dancing at the senior prom after a misunderstanding. Or who could forget the time when Alex stripped at Isobel’s birthday party to impress the popular girl…and of course the comedy that ensued?
In a word…relatable.
On Roswell, New Mexico….well, the saying was true. The more things change…
And boy did it change! By aging up the characters, the show stepped away from the old typical high school dramas. Good news with the change? It allowed for deeper subject matter and relevant subject matter for today’s work. Illegal immigrants. Bisexuality. Identity.
But again…not too different. Hehe!!! The Liz of the Roswell Reboot was the child of illegal immigrants. That opened up for a new audience to see a whole different culture. It also showed the problems with being one. Meanwhile, the Max of the Roswell reboot was a sheriff with a darker edge to him. A Liz who constantly proving that she could save herself. A Max who may be a savior, but was not above being a little more selfish. Watching the two of them come together slowly was interesting to watch and reminiscent of old school Max and Liz. More so since this Max also had a crush on Liz.
Not only did they have their differences to deal with, but a mystery involving the death of Rosa which of course involved the aliens somehow. The who, what, why of the death was the driving force of the first season, but Max and Liz (ship name Echo) was the heart of it. And in Season Two, the drama for their relationship was wisely focused on them. If the drama for the relationship in the first season was external, season two focused on how their differences could be a problem and thus, internal.
Speaking of identity, one cannot talk about Roswell, New Mexico without talking about Michael Guerin…and Alex.
While Isobel dealt with some identity issues that touched on assault, abortion, and self-exploration, Michael was in a league of his own. While Michael in the old Roswell was a hothead with not much drive searching for his place in the world, Michael of Roswell, New Mexico…was actually the same. However, part of the reason Michael did not have a drive was that he was busy playing cover-up behind Rosa’s death with Max and Isobel. And the other reason became very clear when he laid eyes on Alex Manes after years. Lost love was usually that way.
Yes. On the new reboot, Michael and Alex had a lost love from when they were teenagers. And seeing each other again brought that all back. Shame since Alex’s father was anti-alien and homophobic. So viewers got to watch them deal with their issues. From how tragic things ended when they were kids. From dealing with the issues of the closeted lover. Add on the alien issues and the Rosa mystery, and you had a couple named Malex that had a lot of past and present issues to deal with.
Enter…Maria.
Just like the old series, Michael and Maria had a sparring partner relationship. One thing led to another and during a break from Alex, Michael and Maria hooked up. So a chemistry filled triangle began. And Michael found himself asking what was more important…the past or the present?
And all of the relationships kept people tuning in. Not to mention the alien hijinks. I was happy to see that while the writers were very good at plotting out a mystery with twists, turns, and flashbacks, the writers knew what made old Roswell an enduring show. The relationships like Max and Liz and Michael and Alex…and Michael and Maria. The writers knew about the search for self when a person knew they were different. They knew none of it would mean anything if the characters were not relatable. And at the same time, they threw curveballs to keep this version of Roswell fresh and original while still honoring what made old Roswell Roswell.
And knowing that meant they got the art of the reboot.
And I…couldn’t wait to see what they did next.

Reacting To: Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (Season 3 Episode 7)
Episode Title: Requiem for a Dave
Spoiler Warning: Kindly proceed if you’ve already seen the episode or are able to handle spoilers
1. The episode starts off with the human army fleeing away from Timbercat Village and finding cover inside an abandoned building. It seems as though they’re concerned about Kipo because of her very upset reaction towards her mute friends being cured. Lio and Song are eavesdropping in on their conversation, which they also find out Kipo is immune to the cure. Dr. Emilia is definitely P.O. about her loss and demands everyone to get back to their ship.
2. Back in the village, the mutes are upset that their friends/family were turned into regular animals and they’re especially finding it difficult to adjust to this new situation. When Wolf said it wasn’t Kipo’s fault, I’m shaking my head because it’s partly her fault for being so careless. Well, at least Lio and Song got what they need to produce the vaccine. However, is the vaccine going to be able to reverse the effects of the cure, especially for those who were already cured? That’s also very important to consider.
3. There goes Kipo being reckless and jumping to conclusions again; Now she wants to sink Emilia’s boat? That’s silly. I think we tend to forget that she’s just a 13-year old girl. Also, is anybody else getting Glimmer from She-Ra vibes here because not only does she and Kipo share the same voice actress, they tend to mess up a whole lot.
4. Wolf, Benson and Dave catch up to Kipo on some Mega Dogs to try to convince her to come back. Benson tries to get Dave to distract her by telling her a (probably made up?) story that took place 200 years ago. Here we go lol. The story is basically about how the world was back then and how mutes were starting to emerge, which made the humans uncomfortable.
And he also describes how he had this feud with a random human because he stole a mini-fan from him. Look what happened to him at the end lol
5. Dave buys enough time for Benson and Wolf to then show Kipo the remains of her old burrow.
6. Meanwhile, on Emilia’s ship, Greta and Zane approach their very frustrated leader to inform her that they started the ship’s engines. Zane tries to reason with Emilia by saying that the mutes aren’t as bad as they think but she’s still adamant on undoing the Great Mute Outbreak. Like I said last episode, Zane is probably going to betray Emilia at some point. Well, it’s fair because she did use him as bait, which led him to get captured.
7. Benson and Wolf are trying to re-create and re-enact a classroom situation with Kipo to remind her of the humans whom she got along with in the burrow like Mr. Filburn and Mrs. Graham so that she wouldn’t want to kill them. Kipo thinks that they’re not the same people anymore; Boy, can she be any more thick? It’s clear to everyone that these people are being manipulated by Emilia to do her bidding. Wasn’t Kipo like the first one to realize this? Stop being a Glimmer, Kipo!!!
8. Anyways, Dave tries his luck with Kipo again by continuing on with his story: So, Dave and the other Daves were stopped by a group of humans who demand him to give the mini-fan back. This group is being led by the grandson of the guy who Dave had a feud with. Eventually, Dave gets crushed by an air-conditioning-unit and his fan gets stolen once again.
9. Basically, it became a never-ending war between humans and mutes year after year and decade after decade, just like in the present day. But what interested me the most about this story is how he has revealed to everyone that there’s a way to kill his species, which the humans back then managed to figure out how. Hence, why he’s the only one of his kind. So, is it just by snapping their necks or what? Because it does seem to be the case.
10. Kipo has had enough of this because whatever Dave is telling her is definitely not helping with her rage towards the humans. She rushes off before Dave could apparently get to the part of the story that matters. Dave gets mad at Kipo for leaving and he molts into his superhero form. He then takes flight, carrying Wolf, Benson and Mandu in order catch up to her....again.
11. The humans see Mega Jaguar Kipo looking for or hunting them and they are freaking out. Oh hey Doag! Okay wait, there you go! How could Kipo drown Doag, especially after she helped them in episode 2? Like I said; Kipo never thinks these things through...ugh. Doag also confronts her dad for being involved in Dr. Emilia’s plot to cure the mutes.
12. Dave, Wolf and Benson catch up to Kipo, giving Dave more time to finish his story: We see little boy Benson stealing Dave’s mini-fan this time. Dave actually manages to capture him but of course, Dave molts into an elder at the wrong time, giving kid Benson a chance to escape.
13. We basically get a mini-montage of them trying to outwit one another in order to get the fan back. They eventually end up being caught up in each others net traps, next to each other. They realize that they’re the only ones of their group left with Dave being the last of his kind and I guess Benson being the only human left on the surface (and not underground). I can see where this story is headed.
14. They agree to help each other out so they can go back to fighting for the fan again to which they both were successful in setting each other free. However, upon impact, Dave molted into his baby form and that’s when we see Benson starting to bond with Dave. Haha, all it takes is a baby.
15. Dave then molts into an adult and both he and Benson are having dinner together. So sweet! And of course, food is also another way for them to bond. You can’t go wrong with food.
16. After this story, it seems like Kipo is coming to her senses. However, when she spots the light coming from Emilia’s ship, she run off towards it. Hmm, what is she planning to do this time?
17. Kipo lands on Emilia’s ship but decides to be in her human form to confront the humans and reason with them, probably for the last time. She basically tells them that there’s no point fighting because the war between humans and mutes will just keep on going. She ends her speech by telling them she’s inviting them to Prahm.....what the hell is that? I thought she said prom at first but it’s spelled Prahm. I guess, next episode we’ll find out. I’m also curious to know what will Emilia decide to do after this since she’s basically powerless at the moment.
18. Hope you all enjoyed my review of episode 7. Stay tuned tomorrow for when I will be posting my review of episode 8. Thanks for all your support. Bye!

My Top Ships of 2019!
My favorite time of the year is back yet again! This year I had to expand my top ships to 15!!! I know, but 12 just wasn’t enough. Making this list I didn’t realize how many new shows I started watching in 2019 and how many of my favorites came to their conclusions. They were some pretty great picks that brought about some of my favorite ships. Hope to see them develop more in 2020!
15. Poldark: Ross and Demelza
While I did not overly love the last season of Poldark and had many episodes culminate on the DVR, I have to put Ross and Demelza on this list. Their overall relationship is one of the strongest parts of the show and I do like where they ended up at its conclusion. They rely so much on each other and Ross left Demelza in charge of so much at home as he went to London, which many other husbands at this time would not have done. They experienced much with each other over the last five seasons to get them to this point. The first season will forever be my favorite because of watching their early development and having Ross notice his love for Demelza and how he needed her over Elizabeth. They said this a couple of times in the show, but without Demelza in his life we wouldn’t have the show. It was beautiful to watch the love they had for each other grow. I definitely see myself going back and watching this show from the beginning in the near future. I’ll probably just skip a couple episodes here and there.
14. The Walking Dead: Jesus and Aaron
This ship is so bittersweet because the show did not give it enough time to develop and it could have been amazing. I know Tom Payne was leaving the show to pursue another project. Bingeing the show allows for a few spoilers to come here and there so i knew Jesus would be dying. BUT I did not expect for it to happen like that! It was so sudden that it took a couple of minutes to sink in. I really wish he could have stuck around longer not only for his personal character development, but for him and Aaron. This was another spoiler that I remember encountering and I honestly thought that meant the two would have had more screen time. It was not enough! They would have been great. The few scenes we had between them, while not enough, were beautiful and that is why they are on this list. Aaron describing the amount of loved ones he’s lost and including Eric and Jesus right after each other show how important Jesus was to him. If only we could have gotten more.
13. Pandora: Jax and Xander
The CW’s summer show Pandora seriously needs more love. This Sci-Fi show might have felt jolting at times (and by this I mean that there were times where I felt like I missed an episode because a lot of time had passed or they referenced something we hadn’t been introduced to), but despite this I still really looked forward to it every week. I am SOOO HAPPY it got picked up for a second season. Can’t wait to see where the story is headed as it left us on a great cliffhanger at the end of season one. Jax had several love interests this season (as did many of the characters) and while I liked her with several of them (as I seem to be doing with more entries to follow on this list), I was always drawn back to her and Xander. So, I was very excited to see their relationship get explored more in the second half of the season. It contains some of my favorite tropes like a forbidden match, hate/love banter and keeping secrets from one another. The episode they pretended to be a couple really sealed the deal for me as they started to come to terms with their true feelings. What I liked about their relationship was that they weren’t always the center of the plot, but certain lines that were said reminded you of their interests for one another. With the expected drama for season two, it should be interested to see where their romantic story line is headed.
12. Stranger Things: Nancy and Jonathan
Stranger Things was an early binge for me at the start of the year. Immediately I felt that Nancy and Jonathan needed to be together-even while she ended season 1 with Steve, which I will still never understand. (I love Steve. Don’t get me wrong, but it just didn’t feel right. Plus, I feel like he really grew as a character without her. But that’s for another post.) I always love how Nancy and Jonathan got paired up in their own story line before joining everyone else at the conclusion of the season. Their personalities compliment each other well and they can see each other’s true self. Their off-screen relationship is extremely evident in their chemistry on screen. After seeing the end of season 3 and how they will be separated I can only hope it is not for good as these two are meant for each other.
11. Jane the Virgin: Jane and Michael
The age old question: Team Michael or Team Rafael? Up until moments of season 4, I was Team Michael all the way. Another show that I came in as a binge-watcher at the earlier parts of 2019 I knew a lot of spoilers (or let’s say some of the MAJOR spoilers involving Michael). As a telenovela, there was always a lot of back and forth who Jane would pick. Again, as I came into the show later, I knew she’d be with Michael, but I still felt on my toes watching. (This show was so great and I’m so upset the final season aired this year.) Michael was my favorite because of the history he and Jane had. They cared so much for each other and supported one another. I think I was also more Team Michael at first because I enjoyed his personality. However, despite all of this I was not a fan of his return as Jason. I feel like they were pulling straws at what to do for plot-lines and decided to bring him back for the final season. I felt we were in a good place with Jane and Raf and didn’t need it. Michael was a major part of Jane’s life, but she had moved into a different part of her life. I know when I watch this show back I will still be Team Michael in the early seasons. It’s sad his character was lost so early, but I did really like how they adapted the show without him.
10. Derry Girls: James and Erin
Would this list be complete if I didn’t include a pairing that is not an official couple (...yet) that have not alluded to any romantic feelings, expect for me reading too much into things? No it wouldn’t be. :) DERRY GIRLS is one of my TOP shows of 2019 and I am so happy that we were not graced with one season, but TWO this past year! I am still mad that there are only six half hour episodes per season when there should be more! And I’m also upset that season 3 (which could be their final season) has not started filming yet. But while I complain about all of that (because I love this show so much), I’m crossing my fingers for James and Erin. The wee English lad is often shown standing (or sitting) very close to Erin and early on I felt the two would be adorable together. In season one she hopes he won’t sleep with an Ukrainian and in season two James decides to not go to a Doctor Who convention in order to take Erin to the prom. Tell me this isn’t building up to something more. While watching season one I couldn’t find any fan postings about them and then once season two aired I found a bunch. I love watching a ship grow!
9. Legacies: Hope and Josie
Last year when I made my Top Ships of 2018 it was too early to pick which my favorite ships for Legacies were. They were so many options and honestly I still feel like I ship many people together and wouldn’t be overly upset if one became canon over another. As season one progressed I became more and more team Hosie (or Hope and Josie). Then I discovered the large fan-base for the two of them and fell more in love with them. There were many moments in season one that strengthened the fact the two would be great together: the moment above, the dream episode with Lizzie when she experiences different realities if Hope never came to the school, etc-there are some key moments between Hope and Josie that showed they would work and have feelings for one another. This season, Josie was experiencing a lot at the Salvatore School making her not my favorite character as she often is. She seemed to make up with Hope, but now that Landon has chosen Hope I am unsure what will happen to their relationship/friendship. However, this season Hope did let it slip that she once had a crush on Josie too. I really feel like Julie Plec might give us some Hosie in upcoming seasons. Personally, they feel like an endgame relationship that we will have to wait a long time for (each will get involved with other people-you know how these shows are.) But I’m here for anything that comes my way.
8. Legacies: Hope and Rafael
Another Legacies ship-What a Shock! :) It was very hard for me to pick which one to go first, but ultimately I picked Hope and Rafael because of this season. When Hope came back and no one remembered her I could have sworn that Rafael’s werewolf state would have been immune to Malivore’s power and he would have remembered Hope as she took the spell off of him. While this did not happen, we did get some cute scenes between them. I like how he immediately still liked her even though he didn’t remember their past. I like how he looked for her at the dance and hung out with her afterwards. Of course, it was super ironic when Landon wanted to be his wingman, but it was nice seeing Rafael happy as he’s not often. Then once the truth was uncovered he went back to avoiding Hope. This is a relationship that I am surprised they are already exploring. As I mentioned with Hosie, Hope and Rafael felt like a potential relationship, but that would be developed more later-not already in the first season. I am very surprised how many love triangles are already emerging and it’s only season two, which begs the question how long Hope and Landon will stay together? You know you have a good show on your hands when you can ship so many people together and be happy with multiple pairings and alternatives. (Although I would prefer Hope with either Josie or Raf over Landon for sure.)
7. The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne
Aww, another ship with a devastating ending. Seems to be a common thread with some of these. Rick and Michonne were two people that complimented each other nicely throughout the earlier seasons and just made sense when they officially became a couple. They had similar personalities and were like a little family living in Alexandria before they actually became a family. Rick had a few different flames before Michonne, but none were as right for him as she was. Watching the past one and a half seasons without him on the show feels different, and I really miss seeing the two of them lead Alexandria. Michonne, Judith and RJ are keeping him alive, but it isn’t the same as seeing him there. Despite all of this remorse, I really did enjoy seeing them together on the show and I think it came at the perfect time. They had a bond, but were able to act on something more once they reached more stability. I know Danai Gurira wants to leave Walking Dead soon. I just hope there’s a way she can see Rick before she does.
6. Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Jake and Amy
Last year I got to be introduced to Jake and Amy and watch their relationship develop from “hating” each other to something more. Now in the latest season as the show moved to NBC I got to see more of them as they took their honeymoon and Jake stood up to Amy’s parents. While it feels like a very long time ago that I watched this season (and I am very happy to see it is all available on demand so I can catch up before the new episodes), I can remember really enjoying the episodes and this couple even more. I know I’ve said this before, but I really enjoy the kind of ships that don’t always have to be around each other, but you hear them talk about each other or state something that remind you that they are a couple. Those often feel like the realest ones to me. I honestly think Jake and Amy can go down as one of my favorite ships of all time. (That’s BIG I know.) I am so excited that we are going to get more seasons of Brooklyn Nine Nine because it is what they (and we) deserve.
5. Single Parents: Will and Angie
A slow burn that feels like it might be coming to confession time.... That’s just an inference from reading next week’s episode description. A classic plot device: people assume they are together and they have to “pretend to be a couple.” We ALWAYS know how these story-lines end up. Will and Angie have always had a connection since season one. They were the two that I thought would be together, so it was a bit of a shock when Douglas and Poppy became the first ones in a couple. (Although I really enjoy the two of them as well.) I don’t see the show pairing up two of their major couples at the same time, so while I don’t want Douglas and Poppy to break up I REALLY WANT WILL AND ANGIE TOGETHER. This season they have become best of friends; as they often call each other. Almost like they are rubbing it in our faces! Before the mid-season break there were quite a few moments alluding to something more happening between the two of them. I mean Will’s girlfriend called out Angie during Thanksgiving. I think that might have caused some realization for Angie. I have a strong feeling Graham’s dad is going to come back into the picture and ruin things. Either way you know I’ll be watching this Wednesday and hoping for something monumental to happen!
4. Jane the Virgin: Jane and Rafael
I know it’s SHOCKING! As someone who was so Team Michael at the start I have placed Jane and Rafael so far up on this list. Well, after Michael’s death and watching the two of them get so close before becoming romantically involved again made me grow to really enjoy them together. I really love the fact that they were endgame. I seriously got worried there when Jason came back into the picture, which made me not a huge fan of the first half of this last season. Luckily, the second half of the season was fantastic as Jane won back Rafael and they officially became husband and wife. The more I write about this show the more I want to add it to my ‘Want to watch again list.’ I feel it will be different because now I know what’s to come, but I can still enjoy all the great moments.
3. The 100: Bellamy and Clarke
Yes, I’m just about as shocked as you are (again) that Bellarke is not my number one pick this year (yet again). But I have to keep you on your toes and I don’t want to seem too predictable. I had to evaluate these last couple very closely. If you are on this page you know of my LOVE for Bellamy and Clarke. Number One Bellarke fan, right here. So every season that Jason Rothenberg gives us a little more I am a happy girl. As a Bellarke fan you train yourself for this. Well, this season, despite Bellamy still being in a relationship with Echo, we got several monumental Bellarke moments. From Bellamy recognizing that Clarke was still alive and helping take down Josephine, the CPR scene, more head and the heart talk (I’m dead btw) and more and more hugs. With only one season left I am praying to the gods that we will have them become endgame. This will be our last chance and you cannot tell me that everything we witnessed in this last season was PLATONIC! I’m sorry, but no. These two are meant for each other. Their love is so strong, that Eliza and Bob got married in real life. (Which can we just say how I still have moments where I’m like did this happen???) Such a good year for them. Cannot wait for the last season.
2. iZombie: Liv and Major
I called it! I hoped these two would be endgame, but as the final season progressed I was getting more and more worried. Liv and Major would have scenes together, but they were strictly business. I could always feel like something was still between them, but we were running out of time and didn’t know how they would conclude it all. Well, I am extremely happy that not only did they wind up together, but they are in a place where they can have a family and be together forever. I know I haven’t spoken about this couple much, but I have always liked the characters together on the show. While their time romantically together was pretty short overall, their characters drastically changed from season one episode one. There were times when I liked their new love interests, but I always hoped they would wind up together. Happy to see this ending.
AND NUMBER ONE GOES TO........
1. Anne with an E: Anne and Gilbert
Shirbert for the win!!! While season three has just been released on Netflix, I have seen MANY spoilers thanks to YouTube for the third (and sadly final) season. Could I have avoided them? Of course I could have, but I didn’t have the will power. I only watched a couple, but they were some big moments between these two. As a fan of the books and other adaptations of the beloved classic I knew Anne and Gilbert were meant to be even with all the back and forth/will they won’t between them. Just like any good movie or show, just knowing the outcome doesn’t make it true and they extended this slow burn nicely. I cannot wait to watch the full third season on Netflix this month and experience all the romance again. These two are meant for each other and I am just upset that we won’t be able to see more of their story.
Shirbert forever!
