Elder’s quest just dropped and we have an evil sibling doing evil. I hope she will get a name soon because calling her just ‚the voice’ is kinda silly. What if Eclipsepaw?? Also finally a grandparent - grandkid relationship!? Someone is interested in their family? No way!!!! But on the other hand if cats in thunderclan actually looked at their family tree they would be flabbergasted. Maybe we should forget about relationships between first cousins…

Anywayss…. Did Erins forget about shell x fern or did this guy just cheated on his wife (who run away from her clan for him) with another she-cat? It’s thunderclan guys… i wouldnt be suprised IF they were related… or is it like an error or something?

Ppl were talking about the Shellfur cheating on Fernstripe w Myrtlebloom thing and I'm gonna be so honest I don't think that's what happened. I think they had different parts of the Erin team writing The Elder's Quest at the same time as Star and The Elder's Quest people didn't know Shellfur was taken (which is it's own problem) and so accidentally selected him when looking for an unrelated ThunderClan tom to father Myrtlebloom's kits lol. I bet they'll revise it in future books so the father is someone else rather than lean into the cheating plotline lol

BOOM harlequin rabbit based moonpaw, I made her parents fern and shell cause fern is from windclan… rabbits and all that but I headcanon shellfur is also a chimera so it’s a thing!

It’s not something I can put into words, but there’s something specifically about Shellfur, the guy who has a “foreign” wife, being the one to have a cheating plotline that icks me out. It feels… almost deliberate in a way I can’t quite put my finger on

I think I understand why you feel that way. I think it's that a lot of cats have suffered and died for the cross-clan law, plus the way the narrative was so dismissive about migration in the last chapters of Star. It's offputting that we would get the first cheating plotline in years with Shellfur and Fernstripe specifically-- right at a time where the narrative is grappling with legitimizing the validity of these relationships.

After ASC had Berryheart radicalize a portion of ShadowClan on this, too. A plotline that was spectacularly fumbled, ending with a heroic death defending her family and not a single word of input from her hate crime victim, Fringewhisker.

It could also be that's there's something terrifying, but interesting in the idea too. Discomfort in the "worth exploring" type of way. What if you moved countries for a lover, only for them to leave you? Or for them to turn out to not be as kind as you expected?

For Fernstripe, that's a horrific situation. One that would be worth delving into (in fact im planning to do something like that with BB!Nightsun, details will come soon btw) with a dedicated POV. One of the unexplored evils of strict migration laws (particularly ones that depend on marriage or family) is that it's really easy to become trapped in a foreign country if the people you're relying on end up being abusive.

But.

A character is a narrative tool-- and the timing here is just terrible. I don't think it's wise to explore that now, not as a follow-up to an arc about bigotry and how it contributes to political radicalization. That's also assuming the writers aren't rat-hearted bastards trying to paint half-Clan relationships as bad things because they hate that they had to alter the status quo even slightly-- which I don't put past them.

Furthermore, from what we've seen, it's treated with all the casuality of an editor's mistake.

You can't just drop that a major supporting character has done something that should be a massive deal without follow-up. Shellfur dumping his mate less than a few months after her migration was plot relevant should cause an uproar in ThunderClan.

To have that unceremoniously done off-screen is just... beyond incompetent. Genuinely frustrating. This is an action/drama series and there's barely any action these days, so what's even left?

I hope this is just a mistake. I hope the writers see the backlash and put out a statement to fix it. I hope they DON'T decide this is a "good idea" and barrel towards it.

But if they do, I hopelessly hope they don't bungle it this time

To sumarize the hell that happened, Tawnypelt has a crush on Crowfeather now(even getting aproval from Rowanclaw to pursue him), Shellfur cheated on Fernstripe with Myrtlebloom, Leafstar got booted from the leader position, and Moonpaw is a med. cat apprentice unfortunally.

This is my headcanon about why fernstripe joined thunderclan just to have her mate have kits with someone else.. theyre poly! they all coparent and shellfur and myrtlebloom are also t4t because i love a good male calico trans headcanon. and myrtlebloom is such a feminine old lady name i imagine her as a sweet woman who transitioned later in life and shes like. shes everything to me. and shellfur always knew and always was super masculine so he knew early on. and later in life he helps her be more feminine and helps her be herself :3

obviously it was just a continuity error on the authors part and they didnt intend this- but i love this concept!!

also i made this before the retcon so. nevermind its her cousin instead. her direct cousin. sigh. flipclaw isnt even in thunderclan to me.

because in my heart he fell in love with feather of flying hawk from the tribe (stormfur and brook’s son from greystripes vow. its a good read) and they were definitely in love. maybe ill draw them sometime. one note and ill do it.
