Happy holidays! (I am sorry in advance of this chapter)

As fast as she could, Julie flew through the air, flying a route she hadn't flown in weeks. She hadn't been back in the cave since we'll before the staged kidnapping and them destroying the facility. Even though it was necessary that she got there, she thought quietly as she saw the clouds slowly turn orange on the horizon. She flew slightly uncomfortable.

She sped up, flying faster as she saw the sky change colour. It was getting light er and lighter, and she was tired. She hadn't eaten that night, forgetting to do so after the awkward dinner at Lucy's and her crying on the roof. But now she desperately wished she had. She was almost there, she could see their bikes parked between some bushes, but the sun was rising already.

Fuck, she thought quietly as she rushed forwards, diving into the cave, crying out as a stray sunbeam hit her arm. She took a deep breath, trying to ignore the burning pain as she got up, out of the sun.

"What are you doing here?"

She looked up and saw David stand in front of her.

"The Frogs know what we are."

"So?"

Julie's face turned into a cold glare as she looked at him. "If it hadn't ben for Thorn waking me, I would have been staked. Max sund me to warn you."

"Surely it wasn't that bad," David sat down in his chair, an unimpressed air around him.

"You clearly never woke up with a stake in your face."

David was about to say something when Laddie sat up. Onky now did Julie notice that the bed she had slept in while she had stayed her previously had been placed in the living area of the cave. Laddie had been sleeping there. Only when he sat up did she realise Star laid next to him.

"Why are you so loud?" He asked tiredly.

Julie didn't say anything, instead opting to take this opportunity to get away from David and get further into the cave. She didn't want to deal with him now. Of course, with her not staying here for weeks and them needing to shelter two people, it was an obvious choice to use the unused bed for them. Still, it felt a little unwelcome. She sighed as she walked further and further into the cave, stopping when she came across Paul and Marko's room. She knocked on the make shift door, not sure if they'd open or not.

It took less than a second before the door was opened, both boys half undressed.

"Hey guys."

Max was seething with anger. Two kids, teenagers, had managed to get inside the house. Not only that, they had managed to get close to Julie. They had almost managed to stake her. He quietly thanked Marko for teaching her how to fight, realising that if she hadn't she probably wouldn't be here right now.

"I'm sorry, Thorn," Max walked to the doggy door, carrying some wooden boards. "As long as those kids are alive, we will need to be careful."

It took a little while, but then the door was nailed shut. Nothing could get in - or out for that matter.

Max walked to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of scotch, and poured himself a generous glass. He sat down with a sigh, shaking his head slightly. "This is a mess," he looked at his hellhound. "If something happens, I want you to take care of Julie."

Thorn gave a slight nod - he understood. Of course he did. Being a hellhound, he was bound to the word of his master. And in all fairness, over the past year, Julie had definitely become a second master to him.

Max looked at Thorn, a sudden spark in his eyes. He stood up, ringing a phone number he had quickly looked for in the phone book. As the phone rang, he was certain this would solve some if not all of their problems.

"Yes, is this child protective services? You're speaking with Lawrence. There are some kids running a comic book store down at the boardwalk, and i was wondering if anyone could check up on them?" He waited for a moment. "As quickly as possible, that would be great."

He grinned as he hung up the phone. Sometimes, he thought as he took a second glass, things were best handled the human way.

"You look like shit," Marko noted as he stepped aside, letting Julie enter the room.

"Yeah," she nodded, before looking at the two of them. "Did I interrupt some-"

"Nothing we can't pick up later," Paul reassured her quickly, and even though Julie nodded, she opted to sit on the wooden chair instead of on their bed. Marko grinned, taking a seat on the bed.

"The Frogs got inside."

"Inside Max' house? Is he alive?" Paul looked at her. She nodded.

"Thorn woke me up, and one was about to stake me, but I stopped him from doing so. Max scared them off and sund me here to warn you guys."

"Those kids were serious then?" Marko asked.

"They had garlic and holy water and everything."

Marko pulled a face, causing Julie to frown. "I thought garlic didn't do anything?"

"Different vampires react differently to certain things. How you react badly to the wrong blood type, I react badly to garlic."

"That sucks," Julie sighed, a yawn escaping her. "Is there somewhere I can sleep?"

"We all sleep further down," Paul answered, making Julie realise that they didn't sleep like she did. They did so upside down. "There's space enough for one more."

Around noon, Michael Emerson definitely regretted being dragged along by his brother. Vampires, Sam had said. Vampires were real. Of course Michael had known that, but he couldn't exactly tell that to his brother, now could he?

So here he was, following the Frogs and his brother into the cave, the two boys ready to slay a vampire and Sam mainly being panicked.

"You can stay in the car, Sammy," Michael offered, hoping the boy would say yes.

"No, I got to do this!"

Michael sighed, following the three younger boys inside the cave. He wanted to protect Star, knowing she had completed her change recently, he knew she wouldn't be able to stand the sun anymore.

"Here's one!" Edgar yelled, causing Michael to flinch.

"Leave her alone!"

"She's a bloodsucker!" Alan hissed.

"She's not evil!"

The boys stared at each other before they relented. They went further into the cave, a loud yell audible as they found where the vampires were sleeping.

Julie woke up, hearing the screams of three boys under her. She hung upside down, an entirely unpleasant experience that she didn't wish to experience again. As she looked down, she saw Sam, whom she was quite certain, was indeed her cousin and the two boys she had seen at dinner. And, she thought bitterly, in her room earlier that day. She was quiet as she subtly tried to wake Marko, who hung right next to her. He didn't wake up. Neither did Paul or Dwayne when she quietly called out to them.

Fuck. She couldn't handle them alone. Not when all three of them were armed.

She kept her eyes half closed, making sure she could still see what was going on. The boys looked up, inspecting the sleeping vampires.

"Let's go for the small one!" Sam whispered loudly, making Julie flinch. In this case, she was the small one.

"No, we already tried and failed to stake her," Alan hissed back, showing his violently red arm. "She almost broke this when she escaped. We need to get the leader."

Julie's eyes snapped open when she heard the metallic clang of someone climbing a ladder. This was bad. If they killed David...

Ignoring every fibre in her body telling her to flee, she let herself fall down, scaring the three mortal boys.

"Holy shit!" Edgar looked at her, his stake aimed high. Julie tried to slow down, but she was too low to the ground. Sam and Edgar both grabbed her, pulling her down on the stake. She screamed loudly, the wood splitting her stomach. With a loud thud did she fall to the floor, crying out in desperation when she saw a second stake raised above her.

"David!"

When having discussions about MY OWN Asexuality these are some graphics and anectdotes that have made it easier for me to explain it to them.

Since I have had so many curious people on my Ace poll, I'm gonna give it a shot and complie it together in a post.

Firstly, the basic deffinition of Asexuality:

As stated in the graphic, libido, or a hormonal urge for sex is not the same thing as an attraction to another person. In basic terms being horny does not equal having a want to have sex with another person.

I'd like to acknowledge that there is more to the Ace spectrum than just flat ace before I make my next point, so here's my favorite graphic.

These are just three of the many sub-identities on the ace spectrum with some basic definitions but they get the point across about differing levels of the lack of sexual attraction.

Because sex can look different to a lot of asexuals. There are plenty of asexuals that despite missing the initial spark of attraction that mighty motivates an allosexual person, don't mind or even enjoy having sex, for the romantic intimacy with a partner or even just for the endorphin release.

But there are many more asexuals that have a more complicated relationship with sex that can intersect with other aspects of their life like their personal relationships (see demi), their past traumas, their romantic orientation, or their sexual kinks.

One of the basic struggles of Asexuality is determining what qualifies as "sexual attraction"

When you rarely or never experience sexual attraction it may be hard to distinguish between different attractions.

Anecdotally, I base my concept of someone being sexually attractive on my Aesthetic and Sensual attraction. I do this for a shorthand to relate to other people in my life who experience sexual attraction. Partly because I find the concept of sex fascinating to discuss and partially because I love collecting my little group of fictional characters that I project my sexuality onto. I choose them based on whether I enjoy looking at them (which trust me, does not adhere to societal beauty standards) and whether I think being physically close to them (sensually) might be pleasant.

I say this because I think it is a common experience for Asexual people. I am honestly astonished that my poll had such an even distribution of answers. It was really just for fun and not a well-thought-out series of answers. Most people noted that multiple of the answers suited them. But the most common comments I got on that poll were that interms of fiction or media of some kind, they were sex positive. But when it came to any reality where they themselves would engage in sex, that was an entirely different answer.

Well, here's my personal reflections on that same concept within myself that others may or may not relate to.

When I was still in the process of figuring out my own Asexuality, I was confused by the concept of having an extremely high libido and a collection of fictional crushes, but no irl attraction.

At the time I was also heavily into dissecting other social tangles such as the way that men view women through their own societal lens of sexuality. And the biggest argument at the time was "If you only find big boob, flawless skin, totally obedient hentai women sexually attractive, then you're probably not actually into women. Because none of the real ones look like that." Which is true.

This made me think about why I found specifically onky fictional people attractive. Which boiled down to a set of ideals that I could never expect a real person to live up to. If the only way I can even consider being sexually attracted to a person is with them following a humanly impossible set of ideals, then I'm probably just not actually attracted to anyone.

And that's fine. It sounded scary at first. But I grew used to it.

When you take the attraction factor out of sex many people will lose interest entirely. Sex can be a really complicated and messy buissness. There's so many factors you have to consider like, location, time, partner, physical discomfort, physical and emotional vulnerability, body fluids, contraception, std testing, and a plethora of other things that can be really overwhealming even if you are really motivated to have sex. If you arent? Many people don't see a point in it.

But some do and having sexual experiences and even enjoying them doesn't make you any less asexual. There are whole kink groups that are ran and populated by asexual people because kinks gives a structure to the otherwise chaotic buisness of sex and makes it more appealing to them. On top of that kinks can be arousing reguardless of your sexual orrientation and may make it easier to engage in sex.

I'd like to add, for my own peace of mind, that asexuality can feel very isolating. Many people want a partner that finds them sexualy appealing. And that's understandable. But try not to think of your sexuality as limiting. Because asexuality can open so many doors in the queer community that you may not have considered yet.

Being Asexual means you don't have attraction to any gender, meaning that you may be open to dating or having a QPR with others regardless of their gender.

Sex repulsed? You certainly may be able to meet the needs of another asexual person especially if they are sex repulsed too. Having the pressure of sex removed from a relationship can be so relieving.

Asexual people also occupy a space outside of the societal norms of what is considered sexually appealing. And may often completely disagree with general society about what they find attractive. There's a lot of ace people I know personally that are with their partners purely for domestic compatibility and not for appearances at all. This may actually lead to stronger relationships. Even though the process of vetting others looks a bit sterile or like a buisness deal, it's more effective in finding somone you genuinly like and agree with. Someone you can spend forever with.

It also opens doors to people of all types of physicalities.

These are really just anecdotes, but I feel there's so much us ace get put down for. I'd like to lift the community up for once.

Final thoughts on the matter (unless I am asked to elaborate) are that Asexuality is a hugely varied expirience. It affects people in many different ways. And it can be really confusing to figure out. But the point of the poll I made was to point out how many ace people there are just in my orbit on Tumblr. We are not alone. There are so many more of us than you might think. Thousands. And I for one am so excited about that.

Problematically Good and Problematically Bad Deuteragonists

[Spoilers Ahead]

I've been in the My Hero Academia fandom for a while now. I've also been in recently introduced to the Invader Zim fandom because of the hype surrounding the movie (it was well worth watching through the entire series for). That was when I noticed something about the two series:

Deuteragonists.

Now, I'm not entirely sure if Jhonen Vasquez meant for Dib to become Zim's deuteragonist, but Kohei Horikoshi is not subtle about Katsuki being Izuku's deuteragonist. What's interesting is that the two dynamics are inherently problematic for different reasons, but one of them works, and the other doesn't. Let me explain:

Probematically Good: Zim and Dib

Now, just because their dynamic is arguably better doesn't make it all that great. Zim wants to conquer the Earth and remove Dib out of the picture through various means, while Dib wants to expose and experiment on Zim for his own gain. They both want to one up the other for their own gratification. But as much as they hate each other's guts, their relationship is astonishingly symbiotic, as I've mentioned in a previous post.

The important key to their dynamic is that there's a balance. At any given moment, they can switch their narrative roles: Zim as the protagonist and Dib as the antagonist, or Dib as the protagonist and Zim as the antagonist. There are also times where both Zim and Dib are the protagonists, but usually begrudgingly so, and only because a more antagonistic force is at play.

That and they are completely willing to work together if the situation calls for it, like escaping the nightmare realm in Dib's head, or foiling Tak's plan to dominate the Earth. The only time Zim and Dib don't work together is during "Planet Jackers," but that was before either of the previously mentioned instances, and on top of that, there was no logical incentive for Dib to join Zim. (In the Halloween special, Dib accidentally drags Zim into his head, and with Tak, Zim shows Dib pictures of the giant weanie stand, bringing out his suspicions.)

Even if the characters hate each other's guts, they recognize each other to the same extent, and also understand their capabilities. Their dynamic may not be completely healthy, but it is balanced (which is ironic considering it's between an eccentric alien conqueror and a prodigious 12 year old boy).

Probematically Bad: Izuku and Katsuki

This is probably the first problem with Izuku and Katsuki's dynamic: it is NOT equal.

In recent chapters, mostly after Deku vs Kacchan 2, Horikoshi tries to make it seem like the dynamic is equal, but paying close attention makes it clear that it isn't.

Even disregarding Izuku and Katsuki's toxic past, the dynamic is still unequal. Katsuki is unnecessarily a douche who likes throwing around his brawn and other signifiers of superiority whenever possible. He's started mellowing out a bit, but his asshole attitude and self centered tendencies are still present when they don't have to be. You can still be a conceited and hot headed individual without being 100% of a self centered egotist. What's even worst is how Izuku, Katsuki's basic counter in nearly every way possible, sing Katsuki's praises to hell and back while Katsuki constantly tells him off, even though Katsuki should like praise?

Zim and Dib are foils, too, but their dynamic is more complimentary, while Izuku and Katsuki's dynamic is more counterintuitive.

Katsuki is condescending and completely one track minded, similar to a certain Irken invader. However, Zim actually recognizes that even he isn't the greatest being in the galaxy, and is willing to work with others without complaint, except maybe Dib. How many times has Zim asked GIR, Computer, and even Minimoose to come to his aid? I can only think of one instance where Katsuki willingly accepted helo without backing himself into a corner (the Kamino hand hold, if you were curious). He only worked with Izuku during final exams because he got himself decked, both by All Might and even Izuku. He onky handed Denki the grenade during the Provisional License Exam because he recognized he wasn't getting out of this on his own, and if Denki and Eijiro hadn't followed him, he'd be another flesh ball and likely would have failed the exam there.

Compare that to Izuku, who is actively willing to help others, and actualky takes some time to think through things without immediately resorting to fisticuffs. He sees the potential in everybody, and holds his peers up in a high regard. Katsuki only holds people up with begruding respect, and while he has been getting better, his character development is sad compared to the other characters, like Shoto or even Tenya.

What's worse is that there's nothing mutual about their relationship. They aren't each other's compliments; they're each other's counters. Katsuki is willing to verbally (and previously physically) bash Izuku over and over, but Izuku always looked towards him with respect, only resorting to physical confrontation with Katsuki if he wanted to help him. Even learning about One for All has done nothing to help further advance Katsuki as a character. He acts like Izuku and All Might forced the secret on him even though he clearly threw a tantrum about it in order to get Izuku to tell the truth, thinking it would explain how he passed the Provisional License Exam even if Izuku's strength had nothing to do with it. Katsuki even goes as far to say that he'd be able to use all of One for All's quirks at a point where Izuku could barely use one, and Izuku believes him, even though a) It's clear that, strength aside, there's a psychological component to the additional quirks, and b) Katsuki was beaten by All Might, and by that logic, if he wanted to use all of One for All's additional quirks, he'd have to be as strong (if not stronger) than All Might to use all the quirks properly. We know Katsuki is stronger now, but he probably still isn't All Might levels of strength yet. And Izuku just blindly agrees with Katsuki because clearly, Katsuki could do no wrong. Sure, he has a few troublesome bits, but he's overall great hero quality. Well, strength aside, he's not, but that's a debate for another time.

Conclusion

I guess what I'm trying to say is this:

Zim and Dib both hate each other, but they also properly acknowledge one another and are willing to work with each other and others when necessary. They both have their good and bad points, but that only adds to their worth in their dynamic and as characters.

Izuku admires Katsuki as a Symbol of Victory, but Katsuki probably thinks of Izuku as barely human, going out of his way to assert dominance even when it's completely unnecessary, while Izuku is still willing to trail behind him all the while. Izuku is a good person, while Katsuki is a bad person who's just barely learning to be a good person.

TL;DR Zim and Dib are a good example of problematic deuteragonists and can occasionally act as good deuteragonists, whil Izuku and Katsuki's deuteragonists dynamic is completely counterintuitive since the narrative and Katsuki refuse to shape up, and since Izuku is the only positive force in the relationship, leaving it imbalanced, problematic, and overall bad.

It's not a new drama but have you watched W? It's like one the best.

I haven’t seen it but I remember hearing good things about it.

I did watch Oh My Ghostess and loved it!  It’s probably in my top 10 (I think, I’ve never tried making a top 10 fave dramas -- I have no idea how many I would put on the list.)

I like the title.  Whenever I think of typewriters, I think of an elderly relative of mine who I loved dearly.  She always let me sit in her office and play on her typewriter when I was a little girl.  She has a strong connection to Chicago as well.  I’m tempted to watch it based on that alone.

I never saw Kill Me, Heal Me -- but I remember everyone talking about it when it was on.  It sounds really interesting.  Also, every Chinese/Taiwanese drama I’ve ever watched has been insane!  The ones I’ve seen have been so slapstick and over the top ridiculous.  But I low key love them.  Also, I’m madly in love with Roy Chiu.

That’s quite a list! I tried watching Goblin and I just couldn’t get into it.  Which is weird because I’m crazy in love with Gong Yoo and I have watched some truly awful stuff just to gaze upon him and his glorious acting abilities.  I think I might have just been in the wrong frame of mind when I tried it.  I might try again.

I’m starting to see a trend for certain dramas.  Also, is Suspicious Partner the one with Ji Chang Wook?  I fell so hard for him in Healer (god! I loved Healer!) - I’m tempted to watch something new with him in it.

There is a topic I feel angry mom doesn't handle very well and part of the concept is a bit ridiculous BUT once you get past that it's fab, I found the plot really gripping! It does involve a highschool but I definitely wouldn't think of it as a teen drama

Thank you for giving some insight on what you liked about the show.  I’ve heard of Angry Mom and know a little of the concept.  You’re right that it’s ridiculous, but some of my favorite dramas have ridiculous concepts.  Also, I’ve seen You’re All Surrounded and loved that one!  It’s a great recommendation.

Differences Pt. 1

So I've decided to take on the long process of reading the Harry Potter series and taking note of the differences that I think are a big!! Deal!! This one is for The Sorcerer's Stone; - Sirius is the one who lent hagrid the motorcycle, the day that the potters were killed, and after hagrid drops Harry off the next night he says he's going to return it to Sirius BUT HE CANT BECAUSE SIRIUS IS ALREADY IN AZKABAN AND THEN HAGRID HAS TO HOLD ON TO IT UNTIL HE GETS OUT BUT EVEN THEN SIRIUS CANT TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE HES IN HIDING AND THEN HES KILLED - Harry listing examples of him doing magic before he realized he's a wizard and ugh oblivious Harry - SASSY BBY HARRY OMFG - the snake was from Brazil and told Harry "thanks amigo" - Hagrid knits on the train to London with Harry - they do all their shopping at diagon alley on August 1st and then Harry has to return to the dursleys FOR A MONTH BEFORE HE CAN GO TO HOGWARTS -The dursleys find out that it's platform 9 & 3/4 and LEAVE HARRY ALONE AT THE TRAIN STATION BC THEY WANTED HIM TO SUFFER - hagrid was a 3rd year when he was expelled and they snapped his wand (he kept the pieces) - 29 knuts to a sickle, 17 sickles to a galleon - Harry and Draco met while getting measured for uniforms and Harry compares Draco to Dudley because of the pretentious and cruel way he talked - Dudley's tail didn't disappear after Harry and hagrid left, the dursleys took him to a doctor to have it removed the same day they dropped Harry at the train station - Fred and George helped Harry get all of his stuff on the train and figured out who he was - they told Molly, Ron, and Ginny ( who started fangirling) - Molly told them no more pranks like blowing up a toilet and they thanked her for the good idea (important later!!***) - Lee Jordan had dreads and a giant pet tarantula (cough hagrid cough) - Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945, discovered 12 new uses for dragon blood, and was a noted alchemist who worked with Nicolas flamel (which I'm assuming means he helped with the stone maybe?? Even though flamel was like 665 when he died, I think Dumbledore worked on it with him which is why flamel trusted Dumbledore to hide it and why Dumbledore lived to 115!!) - PEEVES - THE GHOSTS - PEEVES - Hogwarts has 142 staircases (Harry counted... Maybe that's why the map was so meticulous, James had a thing for accuracy??) - hagrid was close enough with the marauders and Lily and snape to know that snape hated Harry - Neville got locked out of the common room and ended up going with them when they first met fluffy - after the trip became friends Hermione conjured blue fire in a jar for them to keep warm with outside during the winter (AS A FIRST YEAR) - hagrid got drunk and kissed McGonagalls cheek on Christmas - Harry didn't see only his parents int he mirror of erised, he saw all of the potters, all of the family he was never able to meet - flamel loved the Opera - after one of the quidditch matches Harry followed snape into the forbidden forest to eavesdrop - Harry was researching dittany for potions (so I bet that why he doesn't ask Hermione what it does when Ron gets splinched in dh) - hagrid went to the library and researched raising dragons before he hatched Norbert - Harry, Ron, and Hermione set it up with Charlie to illegally smuggle Norbert from the school - Ron got bitten by Norbert and ended up in the hospital wing - Malfoy found out and was trying to catch them, but McGonagalls caught him - Neville tried to warn them but got caught instead - Harry and Hermione forgot the cloak after they gave the dragon to Charlie's friends and got caught - Harry, Hermione, Neville, and Malfoy are the ones who have to serve detention in the forbidden forest - centaurs don't want to get involved, content to read the stars - the hourglasses with the house points!! - there are three quidditch matches per year - hagrid made Harry a flute for Christmas which Harry uses to put fluffy to sleep - they have to leave Ron behind at the chess board - Hermione solves a riddle with poisonous potions - SO quirell shakes hands with Harry at the leaky cauldron and I was like wtf he should be burning if voldy is in him BUT in the room with the mirror of erised he tells Harry that he and voldy didn't merge until AFTER he failed to steal the stone from gringotts. - **** Fred and George send Harry a toilet seat when he's in the hospital wing - Voldemort admits to Harry that the ONKY reason he killed Lily is because she got in his way - Harry cried when Dumbledore told him it was his mother's love that saved his life - James saved snapes life at some point??? - AND HAGRID GAVE HARRY THE PHOTO ALBUM AS AN APOLOGY BECAUSE HE FELT RESPONSIBLE FOR HARRY ALMOST DYING TO PROTECT THE STONE... HE SENT LETTERS TO ALL OF THE POTTERS FRIENDS AND MADE THE THING FROM SCRATCH That's all I got for right now, I only listed the ones I thought haven't really been talked about...
