Honestly this is why I keep calling their ship redsuits in my head because I want a distinction between normal present day spamtenna and big shot spamtenna because they feel so uniquely tasty. Do you guys understand

ok ok but despite all its flaws as a show tf armada had a pretty meaningful scene (at least in my opinion) that ties together the ideas it was exploring re "fathers and sons". on the one hand you have starscream struggling to earn a single ounce of recognition and respect from megatron, in a way that is so painfully reminiscent of a neglected child trying to gain affection and approval from a shitty parent because that's all they've been taught to look up to. starscream is beaten and humiliated for even making suggestions in the interests of the decepticons, despite following every order and trying his best to fight for "the cause" even though it no longer makes sense to him. he returns to megatron despite declaring that he no longer cares about what megatron thinks about him, because he does still care---megatron literally blames starscream for having a "conscience." all megatron wants is to hammer down the nail that is sticking up, the "problem child" who can't just take a few hits and move on, and all starscream wants is megatron to just acknowledge him as a person, just once.

on the other hand, you have the scene that i want to talk about: rad waking up his parents in the middle of the night to tell them about the existence of cybertronians and their civil war, and looking like a crazy person as he's rattling off about how he needs to go with the autobots into space while standing in his jammies. and the fallout of that interaction ends up being that his father (at least how im understanding this scene), while not necessarily believing in the substance of what rad says, believes in his son. he sees his child's determination and optimism and he knows that rad is being truthful. he reminisces about his own childhood, about having to give up on his own dreams and excitement about the universe in order to move on in life, and understands where his son is coming from. all he asks is that rad comes home safely.

it reminds me a lot of a scene in madoka magica, when walpurgisnacht is attacking the city, and madoka confesses to her mom, junko, that she needs to leave the emergency shelter in order to save homura, and that only she can do this. even though madoka's mother is confused and distressed at the idea of letting her only daughter follow through with her plan (she even slaps madoka, something that is shocking to see knowing how much the two love each other), she ultimately puts her faith in madoka and lets her go. i don't think that situation was meant to be taken in a literal sense (i.e. that the show was literally trying to say that parents should just let their children do crazy shit like run into a natural disaster), but rather, i think the point was that the relationship between child and parent must be formed out of trust, and that even when the urge to "govern" a child arises out of genuine affection and a desire to protect what the parent believes are the child's best interests, it must be balanced with the parent's trust of that child's capabilities and good intentions, something that can only be done when there is acceptance of the child's autonomy as a person and recognition of their beliefs, attitudes, and values. the central conflict for junko leading up to that confrontation was her sense of gradual alienation from madoka---despite being a "girlboss" role model and an emotionally nurturing figurehead for her daughter, junko implicitly expresses the fear that she no longer understands madoka or is as connected to her, at a period when madoka is developing and becoming her own person. in a few scenes, junko resembles a traditionally overworked father figure, similar to rad's father (who literally looks like he has lost a lot of his passion and interest outside of his work). thus, when junko agrees to let madoka go into the storm, she is essentially telling madoka, "i do trust you, and i see you, and i hear you, and i love you. though i will always be your parent---and therefore will do everything to protect you---i cherish your trust in me as a parent more than i cherish whatever authority i have and my own sense of pride in that role. i believe you."

so when rad's father ultimately accepts that his son's wild story that he needs to go somewhere far, far away to help the autobots, i see his reaction not as a plot device (because why include the scene anyways if rad's parents don't show up for the other 99% of the series?) but as a parent coming to terms with what they also need to do in order to preserve and develop their bond with their child. and, idk, the whole scene is very touching to me while keeping a level of nuance in the interaction (compared to an equivalent, but less nuanced, scene in tf cybertron where the human protagonists literally need the autobots to physically reveal themselves before their parents can believe them), and it makes sense why rad displays that sense of empathy and trust in the minicons later in the time loop.

overall, i think this scene was very bittersweet knowing that this parallel could be drawn between rad's interaction with his father and starscream's desire to have that kind of trust placed in him (making his interaction with alexis, whom he thanks for trusting him despite his betrayal, all the more impactful). idk armada might be goofy but sometimes it gets the emotional beats in a way that just isn't there in the rest of the unicron trilogy.

can’t say much about byler that hasn’t been said already but i truly do think narratively it feels like thats what everything is leading up to. i mean hell, there are byler proofs hundreds of pages long at this point, and while some of them might be grasping at straws, there is still an overwhelming amount of convincing evidence that make it clear to a large part of the audience both casual and superfans that it is a large possibility. obviously i do worry that with the political climate and the frequent cancellation of queer shows that the duffer brothers / netflix wouldn’t out of cowardice. but i think having a queer relationship being a focal point of one of the biggest shows in the world, would be an incredible legacy for a show about outcasts and freaks to leave.

that first post was supposed to be a one-off but warden hybrid riley glued himself to the inside of my brain so i had to draw him again

i fuckign love worldbuilding with minecraft as the setting its so fun so anyways i imagine hybrids in general would be uncommon- not rare but you wouldnt see one on the streets every day either. boss hybrids (ender dragon/warden/maybe creaking ??? dont know much about it, could also just be a hostile mob) anyways boss hybrids would be like super rare among hybrids cause in my universe they wouldnt occur naturally. so like normal hybrids (hostile/passive/neutral mobs) could occur thru like maybe genetic mutations?? or mutations brought on by magic??? its minecraft whatever. so like hybrids are born all the time they happen normally is what i mean.

boss hybrids however arent made naturally u have to go thru Some Shit to become a boss hybrid, whether on purpose or not. all this to say riley would become a warden hybrid fully on accident. he and the mining team he was on discovered a deep dark biome but they didnt know what it was cause theyre so rare and the average person doesnt go that far into caves. so theyre fucking around and logging their findings when UH OH warden appears and beats the shit out of them. with riley in particular, the warden keeps attacking him even after hes dead. warden hybrids happen when a bunch of skulk debris gets into the corpse before respawning, so when the warden kept attacking his corpse, that preventing him from respawning for a bit and mixed a bunch of skulk into his corpse. thus, he respawns and hes suddenly blind and taller and uh oh hes a hybrid now. fun times!

so anyways hes not like Completely blind but he sees everything VERY blurry so everythign is just very vague blobs of color. also his pupils are constantly huge so hes very light sensitive. thats why he wears the cloth over his eyes so theyre not randomly hurting cause he looked at a light source without realizing

So I've been privately quite resistant to the theory/read that clancy is being possessed through all of this and that's why he's acting the way he is. I've been ruminating on it more & I pinned down that the reason for that, the thing for me, is like. This album cycle so far has effectively served as reclamation for clancy - of his name, his life, the people and things that matter to him. Lyrically the album details a person resisting the urge to fall back into old harmful habits and isolate himself, which clancy does (with at least some self-awareness) by "overcompensating." We knew from the start of this era he was willing to do whatever it took to remain himself and to take down dema and end the cycle.

Obviously we still don't know exactly what happened after the end of the paladin mv. In my opinion we also don't know what Exactly last night meant either other than that clancy has drifted somewhere dangerous and maybe irretrievable (though I highly doubt that), and that he simultaneously seems to be crying out for help. Maybe all that means he has been seized this entire time or is dead already or whatever whatever. In My Opinion though, I think it's just the less logical conclusion to jump to because what does that leave us exactly? A clancy who once again has been stripped of agency. A clancy who, once again, is defined almost entirely by the perceptions and movements of the bishops or the banditos or whoever else thinks they have claim over him and his name and his face and his message. For him to come out of the gates swinging so hard but ultimately end up in the same place he started is maybe *realistic* if we are talking about literal cycles of addiction or mental illness, but we've already been exploring that for the last 10 years on 3 albums prior to this, and that's not what clancy (album/era) has been doing or saying to me. This is a person who is fighting so hard not to repeat the cycle that they go too far. They self destruct. They know there are people waiting for them to be better and they're trying, but it's a big fucking ask, isn't it? It's so hard to find balance, if that's something you've never had before. It's so hard to get it right.

Outside of my personal clancy/blurryface dichotomy theory (which I think explains why his shirt is sometimes black - it's blurryface, not necessarily clancy being smeared (unless you assume those two states are one and the same which on a separate meta level they probably are but getting into that is going to add like 3 more paragraphs to this)) - I believe clancy has been himself, unequivocally, through this whole era so far. I believe last night he was cognizant and chose to push the torchbearer away, maybe because he lost trust in him due to paranoid self sabotage, maybe to try to protect him because clancy is also aware that he's on a crash course but cannot find the brakes anymore (the line). Maybe some combination of both.

Also worth noting - his letter about "absolute power" did not anywhere say that he wanted to be a bishop. It sounds more like he wants to be a king (of a kingdom swingin on a swing etc etc). Whatever he's trying to turn dema into I think it will be different, even if it's ultimately just as toxic. We know, and he knows, he can simply destroy it all (bandito/overcompensate), but that's also hard. It's so so hard. I don't know how many of us ever actually make it that far - I know I never have. I think that's probably what he went in intending to do but it doesn't seem like that's where we've actually ended up.

The cycle might repeat again, and maybe (my fingeys crossed) take us back to blurryface somehow for its 10th anniversary, but I think it's going to be different this time. We aren't going back to jumpsuit/the start of the trench era. We aren't going back to how things were during sai. These concerts were intended to be flashbacks, memories, "reminding us why we fight." Reminding clancy why he's doing what he's about to do. Which is different than whatever he's done before. Whether or not this "sounds like an ending" (it doesn't), I think this is something new. That doesn't mean it's something Good. But we don't quite know that yet, either.

In short and to try to make this probably incoherent post more coherent: To Me (and I could be wrong, I've been wrong before) it is still clancy, just like it was always clancy. Whatever he's going through and whatever he becomes are because of his own actions. Not the bishops, not the banditos, not torchbearer. Him. And isn't that so much more tragic? And so much more real?
