Just remembered a random memory from when I was a little kid. I think I was at a friend's birthday party(?) and we were eating a big dinner there but I was (and still am) a picky eater so I really only liked those little smily potato thingies. And I remember talking to one of the adults there (the one who was cooking the food I think) and I was apologizing for not liking the food there, and she just smiled and said "sweetheart if all you want to eat are the potatoes then go right ahead, don't worry about it" and it made me soooo happy and safe cuz I think that was the first time an adult didn't give me shit for being a picky eater

I’m working on being able to eat butter chicken, and the plan was get used to chicken with some of the spices, then move to adding in the marinade, and then finally to the sauce, and I definitely figured this was something that was going to take me a long time because there’s a lot of spices and new flavors in there that I’m not used to

but I got a bit confident when putting the first step together and added in cumin, turmeric, chili powder, and garam masala, and it was GREAT. no overwhelm, no hesitation, we can just head right to the marinade!

Yes, cooking generates a whole bunch of dishes that you will have to do later, and yes, spending an hour in the kitchen can be considered torture, and yes, ingredients only get more expensive, but with just some time, patience, and love, you too can make something that just completely fucking sucks.
