Something about how Fire & Ice give up on going after Pearl directly, and instead both arrow in on dissing Marina-

Something about, Pearl having no shame at all, outright telling Frye right off that Off the Hook is here to “take control” and then literally talking over Frye’s turn. Frye’s snarking on how Pearl isn’t the boss here and no one’s cheering for her, ignored. How she goes after both Frye and Shiver asking where Frye’s big friend is to help her pass this test, moving right on to saying they’re both just goons making a mess anyway, little fish who should stay in they're bowl, but

that seems to give Frye the idea of hitting back with the “who’s backing you? Imaginary friends?” line… like Marina doesn’t even count as a music partner- or a friend?

Pearl literally yaps about Marina being divine, one of a kind, voice so fine, big mind- raps the lines off her cuff and the heart that's proudly pinned there

And Frye and Shiver go TARGET DETECTED. They lock onto Marina.

Shiver doesn’t bother trying to needle Marina about Pearl, the way their partners were each doing- if Pearl has no shame then at least she DOES still have a weakness, a soft spot, a thing she openly cares about- something they can try riling her up over

(problem: Pearl actually has all the confidence in Marina as a musician, partner, and performer. She's WATCHED Marina be all those things for YEARS now)

In the end Frye and Shiver just rile up the gay feels. Because Marina’s been living with a rapper who LOVES hyping her up even when they’re not on stage- Pearl who said she’d cut a fish for Marina. And if you don’t come to Inkopolis with a lot of self confidence, well then getting some from your girlfriend is fine too  

But it’s cute that Pearl’s still so obvious about being Marina's no. 1 fan that Fire & Ice thought they could use it against her XD

consider this: dragon-ish Foul Legacy, with armor-like scales and a form big enough to easily pick you up by the back of your shirt with his mouth. he rarely uses it, the amount of energy it takes for him to maintain such a form usually putting him to sleep for several days afterwards, but you manage to catch him transformed by chance, and oh, you're DELIGHTED! he's even taller than usual, crossing his legs around you as you sit on the ground, toying with your hair with very deep, rumbling purrs. you can only hold one of his claws with your hand, and Legacy delicately prods your shoulder with a knuckle so he doesn't accidentally scratch you, chittering at your surprised laugh. his armor is also even stronger like this, so you can bite and gnaw his wrist and hand to your heart's content

Legacy loves curling around you in this form, easily able to both hold and rest his head on your lap, and now you can give him even better scritches behind his horns!! his rumbles fill the air, almost making you physically shake as he tucks you closer. to him, this is the best way to fall asleep, as he always does after using this form, snuggled up against you with your hands raking through his soft ginger hair. you watch as delicate crackles of violet lightning wrap around him, leaving Foul Legacy back in his normal state and deeply asleep, gently pulling a blanket over his shoulders. you'll stay nestled up beside him for as long as you can- he'll be out for a few days- listening to his soft breaths and grumbles in his slumber before he regains the energy to wake up again

(characters who give magic powers automatically get deemed helpful especially if they offer protection against other harmful magic like the emperor against the absolute or polaris against the hiss. eg the emperor will still help you if you argue with him so i still list him as very helpful, meanwhile greed has the ultimate shield but he demands you give your body over to him entirely to use it, so it kinda cancels out)

Authentic Story of the Shining Force - Saint Fencer Max - Chapter 4

Here's the retranslation of every scene with the Spring of Recollection in the game. Overall, her speech here is fairly close to what she says in Waral in-game, with a few details from her final appearance sprinkled in, like her care for Cain. It does misses a few nuances though, like the Legacy being more than just Dark Dragon.

I don't think I've ever seen art of the Spring, but notably, she gets a portrait in the GBA version, and it looks a lot like the manga design, with the slightly wavy hair and especially the blank eyes.

Obviously, the manga rushes through the plot since it's short, thus a lot of places are skipped. I didn't even feel like pointing them out before. However I will point out Waral not being here this time, because Waral happens to not be in the beta map either, and it has very contradicting lore between the ASCII guide and the World Book, meaning it might have not been well developed. Besides, Chapter 5 is very weirdly structured. You get two ship battles that are basically the same, you get to Waral by accident, you advance the plot by going to Ring Reef for no reason and everyone telling you it's off-limits while letting you waltz in anyway, and hardly anything happens in the shrine besides you hearing about the Manual, which is not even a big deal because you get to Rudo by accident later (two ship accidents!! why repeat this plot point!!) and would go to Dragonia anyway to help Bleu. Basically, I obviously can't prove it, but it wouldn't surprise me if the ocean shrine was initially thought off as only a plot scene, and the battles/town added much later for gameplay reasons.

Perhaps worth mentioning, the GBA version also makes a point to mention that Max got lost in the shrine alone, and everyone was worried about him, which does remind me a lot of the ship scene here.
