i fucking hate the "why cabby's arc is lesbophobic, misogynistic, ableist, etc etc" post so so much. like okay listen i usually don't care about bad takes it's whatever, the ii fandom usually has terrible ones, but that post specifically has so much misinformation about cabby and takes things that aren't canon as canon (such as, cabby only "caring about fem-enby characters", when a lot of her friendships are with masc characters and she generally cares about people, or that she was treated badly because she "wasn't of help for any male character", when like, no, she was treated badly because she wasn't the best person at the start of s3 and people also forget that, etc) + she was like. actively not the greatest person due to the fact that taylor was in charge of her storyline, and when he was fired, they changed everything completely, and also, cabby's arc being lesbophobic's only proof being her VA doing Cabby's lines with a sapphic intent, which, 1- sapphic doesn't mean lesbian necessarily, there are mspec sapphic people and 2- whatever the vas do or say doesn't meant that it's canon to ii 3- again, it's literally not canon, please don't consider headcanons/ideas the rest of the crew has as canon (since justin did specificy back then that, unless if established by the three of them, it's not canon, or something along the lines of that, it's like saying that cake/brunch's hcs are canon just because he's part of the crew but like, no, they are not)

and meanwhile i can agree that cabby's portrayal of disability is not the best, and could've been better, i think that what people often forget is that. treating issues such as ableism on media doesn't mean that the creators themselves condone those. like yeah the characters (mostly silver and test tube) were assholes to cabby because of her disability, but AE never glorified it nor did they intend for others to feel like it was like that. hell, even the bot and cabby thing, people immediately assumed that it was an intentionally ableist (which, i get it, it could've been executed better) but like. People also forgot that Bot was going through severe identity issues and was strongly struggling with being written down as one thing (because 1, they were made to be the replica of someone. they were LITERALLY written down to act like someone. 2, they recognized that they were terribly attached to test tube and that's why their view on cabby was so complicated. 3. bot immediately recognized that what they did was wrong, and didn't intentionally want to hurt cabby, again. they ARE going through their own troubles as well. AND 4, in the next episode, bot immediately apologizes when given the chance and gives cabby a file they made themselves, because they understand cabby and don't want her to struggle.)

i specifically hate that post so much because it made people be insufferable regarding iii and also made people worse when it came to AE. First and foremost, I kinda just see all the characters as somewhat bi/sexually fluid, most likely because I am too and almost none of them read as strictly gay or straight to me personally. As for the teens themselves though, I’ll go one by one;

Miles like I previously said I for sure see as bi but with a preference for girls and femininity in general

I know the Gwen trans headcanon is super popular (and likely canon? Idk) but I’ve just never seen it myself/gotten on board with that one as a trans person. I gotta say, I find the buddies refusal to accept both Ryan AND Eddie/the shows outright statements that Eddie is straight disgusting.

If we flipped the narrative, if we had Eddie say outright say he is gay, and everyone started shouting "no! He's just lying to himself, he's actually straight!" Can you imagine the outcry? People storming the castle, claims of homophobia because the fans not listening to what he's saying don't want him to be gay. But when he claims he's straight, it's perfectly okay to claim that he doesn't know himself, that he's lying to everyone because those fans don't like what he's saying?

I'm not saying people can't ship buddie. People ship fanon couples all the time, regardless of their sexual orientation. If they want to ignore canon and have fun with their fanon couple in their own little play space, that's fine, go nuts. What isn't fine, is choosing to ignore canon and then DEMANDING that the show bend to their will because they don't like it. If this was real life, and you told someone that they were straight "no you're not, because you exhibit traits a, b and c which a straight person couldn't POSSIBLY have, so therefore I've decided you're gay?" Ooh boy.

And yes, I know this isn't real life, it's a TV show, but it's real people who are playing these characters, real people who are getting harassed (both actors and fans) because a certain subset of the fandom aren't getting what they want. Not to mention, this mindset is the very toxic masculinity that Ryan has been saying he wants to dispel with Eddie's story - that a man being being vulnerable, emotional etc doesn't make them weak and doesn't mean they are automatically gay. And if people have these attitudes towards fictional characters, that they think two guys cant be close with each other without there being some some of sexual component underneath, that people don't know their own sexuality because it doesn't fit your expectations, what are they like towards people in real life?

Hard agree - I find it disgusting as well. I think it's one thing to have something as a hc, and another to claim it is the indisputable truth. And the thing with Gay Eddie very much falls into the latter. And it's like you say - what if we flipped the narrative?

Case in point: what if we suddenly started to claim Hen is straight, that there have been signs of this, and that it's obvious she doesn't know better? What if we were to claim this over and over, even with Aisha stating Hen is a lesbian and very happily married to her wife?

And, hey, I do understand the situation isn't exactly the same, but in the end, it comes to being disrespectful and, honestly, a bit gross. And, as it has been said before, if Ryan is saying (multiple times) that Eddie is straight in interviews (and hell, even the show), that's because he's gotten permission to say that. It's not a game of misdirection, but a confirmation of his sexuality to stop people from thinking Buddie might happen.

And, yes! Ship buddie by all means as a fanon couple. I will never tell anyone to not do that, because that'd be insane of me. But, like you've said anon, they should not go demanding the show to bend at their will, and they should not harass everyone they can think of when their ship doesn't happen. Shipping is supposed to be fun, and they're not supposed to take shipping war so damn literal. My God.

Lastly - yeah, good point. Ryan has made sure to explain why this SL is so important to him, why he wants to show Eddie can be in touch with his emotions and be vulnerable, and for that not to mean he's gay. It might not be the message that side of the fandom wanted, but it is still a really good message. And the one that RG clearly wants to tell, he couldn't have made it clearer.

I don't know many people in this fandom who don't headcanon Rika as a lesbian, to be honest with you. In fact, it's been a long time since I've seen anyone write her any other way.

In my eyes, I've always read into Rika as someone who reflected on her sexuality later in life because her traumatic experience with the Catholic church made her bury anything about herself that didn't fit with whatever the church believed (I.E. the Pastor and her Abusive Parents).

How could she think about who she liked when she had to focus on surviving? How could she think about having crushes and having a normal childhood when all she knew was suffering? How could she openly experience crushes when her family would've hurt her for it? Rika knew that openly expressing anything that went against what the church and her abusive parents believed would hurt her. She'd learned to try and keep quiet and stay small, but even that couldn't protect her.

She never thought about her romantic feelings for others growing up. She didn't think she was worthy of love! Had she been able to grow in a safe, warm environment, I think it would've been easier for her to sit down and reflect on her feelings towards other people enough to see that she was sapphic. That she had feelings for girls instead of boys. That she felt like herself around other girls and wanted to explore it more freely.

Rika yearned to be loved her entire childhood, just as much as I think she yearned to love in return.

Rika was taught that she was the devil from a young age, a devil for simply existing as an orphan girl with trauma who could never make the adults who were hurting her happy, and she internalized so much self-hatred because of that. Her experience with love isn't healthy for the most part. She latched onto Jihyun Kim because she wanted the chance to become him. She wanted to be him. Her love for him, in my opinion, wasn't never her being "in love" with him.

Does that mean she didn't love him? No, I do think she loved him in her own way, but I don't think she was in IN LOVE with him.

Rather, Rika was in love with the idea of being in love with Jihyun and in love with the idea of becoming Jihyun. She wanted to love him, at first, especially, she wanted to be in love with him, she wanted a life with him, she wanted everything with him because he felt like a God and a Savior to her life that felt miserable up until that point, but the longer she spent with him, the less it felt like love and the more it felt like obsession.

She was in love with the idea of escaping her demons, and to her, V was her dream. If she could become him, she would no longer be the devil, she would be V, a savior, a sun, a perfect lift that could do not a single thing wrong.

I think it's very easy for a lot of people to look at Rika's story from the perspective of a closeted lesbian who grew up in an abusive Catholic household, who never had the opportunity to think about what she'd like out of life because her family made the decisions for her ahead of time, and anything that deviated from what they wanted would have her face their wrath.

I've had a few friends with the same story as Rika in that sense, they tried to follow the expectation their family set up for them. They tried to force themselves into that role and they were miserable because of that. They kept trying to be someone they weren't, and someone they could never be, and only when they were able to be honest with their feelings and what they knew in their heart, did things start to change for the better in their lives.

You can't force your way into being someone you're not. All you do is make yourself miserable in the process. The world would be a damn better place if we didn't have to deal with homophobia and the effect the Christian church has on young people who are told they will go to hell for simply loving someone. My family did and said a lot of things to me because of my sexuality, before I even understood who I was or my feelings, all because of people using the bible to spout vitriol and hatred.

It's miserable to have to live in hiding growing up, feeling like you have no choice but to hide away to learn and explore your feelings without the fear of someone screaming at you or worse. So, when I think about Rika, myself, and I know many others, look at Rika and find a sense of kinship.

Headcanons are just headcanons, after all. My viewing Rika as a lesbian brings me some comfort and it ain't hurting nobody.

this is something ive been thinking about especially because i hc the rest of team 7 as aro/aspec for their own independent reasons so it just like. seems like shes left out if shes not. to be fully honest i think her sexuality is pretty much free reign in terms of headcanons because even though her crush on sasuke is supposedly at the center of her story theres a million angles you can take on it regarding how genuine that crush actually is. the same argument people use to hc her as a lesbian could be used to say shes aro or that she's literally just not in love with him but still caved the general pressure to pick someone to be in love with.

her crush on sasuke being some form of comphet definitely does carry water, considering how she presents her crush on him to ino and her friends like it's an accomplishment that will make them like her more, and obviously her crush is exaggerated to the point that it wouldn't be a stretch to say she's just acting how she's seen people on tv act when they're in love.

on the other hand, i think observing that sakura has slightly mildly obsessive tendencies from the start is kind of important to understanding how her time with team 7 turns her into the person she is at the end of the story; someone who will go through hell and high water for the people she loves, for the idea of a perfect team that she only got to see flashes of to begin with. she is, after all, the only person who naruto (an insane person) feels understood by in his love for sasuke. that's the reason he feels drawn to her, and he's admitted this multiple times. with this in mind, i also don't think its inaccurate to say that her crush on sasuke could easily be genuine. she's 12, after all, a first crush at that age does make you act stupid.

the point of all this is to set the scene that i truly think people can take whatever angle they want with her sexuality. im honestly not married to any particular headcanon. i think she tends to have an attitude that she understands romance better than naruto does (who is almost definitely accidentally aroacecoded and im tired of acting like thats just my personal headcanon and not well supported by the actual text), which usually makes me lean towards the idea that she has a better idea of these supposedly intrinsic feelings and therefore is allo. her initial struggle to understand naruto's obsession with sasuke (describing it to sai as brotherly) plays into this but im not sure how. it could potentially be ascribed to the idea that she doesn't think it looks like romance because she has a rigid idea of what romance looks like. this is just weird. i feel like she would've suggested to naruto that she thought he was gay if she thought he was gay, but she doesn't do this (saying this in terms of her as a character separated from the person who wrote her. i know why kishi didn't have her suggest that). but maybe naruto being gay just didn't even cross her mind because homophobia runs so deep. but she's a fujoshi so that doesn't seem right either

-grimsley is always bisexual to me. however i vibe with both him being cis and him being trans headcanons. either way he’s always gnc to me though.

-caitlin is trans (mtf) and uses she/they pronouns. she and shauntal are also both lesbians to me <3

-marshal is panromantic asexual and i really like the idea of him being trans (ftm).

-grimsley enjoys classic horror films from the 80s-90s. yk the really cheesy horror films where some of them could barely be considered horror. i also think he enjoys musicals, but specifically musicals like phantom of the opera, jekyll and hyde, little shop of horrors, sweeney todd, the beetlejuice musical. he enjoys some recent horror films as well, but he thoroughly enjoys the cheesy, old classics.

-grimsley collects playing cards. it’s not a very special or unique headcanon, but he has a wide variety of playing cards all from different places or themed around things he enjoys.

-caitlin has narcolepsy. i think this is a fairly common hc as well. since she’s often falling asleep and experiencing dreams, her dreams are prophetic more often than not. their psychic specialty is prophecy and interpreting prophetic dreams, however i believe she has the ability to do basically any psychic power one could think of. i like to think she’s a very powerful psychic.

-marshal and grimsley have a very unique rivalry to me. they’re best friends for sure, and honestly marshal is not as competitive as grimsley is. but those two fuel each other’s competitiveness to all hell. they have a running tally on how many times each other have won during sparring matches. they would also die for each other.

-speaking of which, marshal is very much the braincell of the elite four. i do think he’s a bit of a himbo, but he is actually the most responsible of the four and has the best coping mechanisms and self control (as a martial artist should have). he loves helping his friends and finds enjoyment in such.

-grimsley is likely the least responsible. he is by no means a bad friend, and he’s obviously very clever and smart. but he has a knack for disappearing without saying anything only to show up hours later. of course no one trusts him with financial advice. and he absolutely loves messing with and playing pranks on the others.

-shauntal is very caring and a bit of an older sister figure to marshal and grim. she’s also the oldest of the group. this doesn’t mean she doesn’t also like getting into mischief with grimsley, the two are partners in crime for sure. shauntal also has a bad habit of getting too focused on her writing and becoming a temporary shut-in.

-caitlin is reliable and trustworthy when she can be. the others are very aware of her narcolepsy and obviously don’t treat her like they’re helpless, but they do understand she won’t always be present. and they’re okay with that. they’ve known caitlin for ages now and so they know how to help, assist, and work with caitlin’s diagnosis.

-speaking of caitlin, she has autism. i see a lot of people depict her as very bubbly, but i see her as more blunt and monotone. along with her constant tiredness, she doesn’t have the energy to keep up verbal appearances, and so sometimes she comes off as rude or apathetic. she also has a very sarcastic sense of humor, which grimsley finds extremely hilarious. she makes him laugh all the time.

-caitlin’s style is very pink and bubbly and has the black cat personality, while shauntal has the black cat style and the bubbly personality. they are gay <3

He's a very good hacker. It's a good thing the family has limited electronics, or they'd be in for hell.

Chooses to be emo and mysterious. Marguerite is very worried about him. Jack just thinks its a phase.

Loves poking around in places he ain't supposed to. Mostly to get a reaction.

Does NOT like being teased and embarrassed by his parents and that's why he goes out without them.

Mommy and daddy's girl.

Literally the only reason she's still living with these people despite having 2+ degrees.

She also goes mining for gems. If she does happen to find some she'll just sculpt and sell them for money so she can feed her sugar addiction.

Despite being literally an eldritch abomination towards anyone else she's such a sweetheart to her parents.

Does shady scientific experiments in a secret room (that big ass house HAS to have one) yeah take her degree away now.

Lucas has access to that room because he happened to stumble across it while being nosy. He only gets to stay because he blackmailed them.

This fat ass literally pays her mother to make her food omfg. specifically desserts.

If Marguerite were to ever ask 'you got McDonald's money?' the answer would be yes smfh.

Whenever her parents display even the smallest bit of affection towards each other she immediately moves to another planet.

Florida, Gov, and Louisiana were all relaxing in the Pelican State's room in a makeshift pile of blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals. Florida was leaned up against the wall with Gov snuggled into his side, and Loui's head was in Gov's and Gov was gently playing with Loui's hair. The two Southern states were lost in their conversations, and Gov sat there and listened lovingly. It was overall a very peaceful atmosphere.

Gov had no idea how he had landed someone as beautiful as Louisiana, and as handsome as Florida, but he wasn't complaining. He loved them both, very much. And he was pretty sure they loved him. He loved how Florida could be chaotic and reckless and go burn something to the ground for the hell of it, but also be sweet and caring and loving and calm in his own Florida-Man ways. He loved how absolutely carefree and friendly and laid back and loving and adorable Louisiana was, and how one look into Loui's oh so beautiful eyes could melt away all of his problems. Was that sappy as sh*t? Yea, but Gov didn't care. It was all true. He was head-over-heels for the two southerners, and nothing could change that. Pretty much everybody knew as well. Everybody except.... Pennsylvania.

He hasn't told his father about his relationship, and honestly part of him didn't want to. PA wasn't necessarily abusive, but he had neglected Gov pretty much all his life, only paying actual attention to him when it came to work or if Gov did something wrong. And he clearly favored IDC, Gov's sister, more. When Gov came out as trans and bisexual, Penn was all like "Okay yea whatever that's fine", but when Itsy (IDC. I saw a hc about this being the nickname Gov gave her cuz he couldn't say her name properly when he was younger, and I ran a f*cking marathon with it-) came out as a lesbian, he made a much bigger deal about it. Honestly Gov wanted nothing more than at least his father's attention and approval, but not just during work. But he would also feel pretty bad if he told everyone except the man that raised him. PA was still his father.

"Hey guys?"

"Yea Mi/Mon Amor/Amour?" the two southerners responded.

"I think I want to tell Pennsylvania about us." Gov said.

"I'm fine wit' dat." Loui said, smiling.

"Yea same."

Loui sat up and instantly wrapped Gov in a koala hug. Gov was a tad bit surprised at first, but he eventually hugged back and melted into the hug and allowed a few tears to roll down his cheeks. He sighed contently when he felt Florida wrap his arms around the two of them.

"Listen Amor, you don't have to tell PA if you don't want to. But if you do, and he says something bad, I will send the meth gators." Florida said with his signature Florida-Man chuckle and smile.

"Ohohoho god-" Gov laughed.

"I won't send anything but my fist to that connard's smug ass face." Loui said with the wild grin and look in his eyes that the two taller states adored so much.

"Please don't do that!!" Gov exclaimed with a small sigh. He would hate to have to TRY to break up a fight between PA and Louisiana. He knew damn well that if Loui threw a punch, PA would fight him. And probably hurt him really bad. Ofc tho, the other way around would be pretty bad as well. They were both very experienced fighters, and were pretty damn good at fighting.

Gov walked into the kitchen with Loui and Florida not far behind him. He saw PA standing there, leaning against the counter with his phone, and Mass, Texas, and NY were sitting in the living room.

Gov sighed as he walked up to his father, fidgeting with his fingers nervously. "Hey Da- I mean Pennsylvania?"

PA looked up from his phone. "Whaddya want?"

Gov actually debated turning around and running back to his room, but he decided that he might as well just get it over with.

"I'm.... Currently in a relationship... With someone. Well- two someones." Gov said.

"You shouldn't do that. You are the personification of the US government, and you need to focus on your work. Not a relationship." PA said, sounding annoyed. Ehhhh Gov didn't like that.

"I-I-I-I know, but-"

PA interrupted him. "No buts, I said what I said." He tried his best to ignore the hurt look in Gov's eyes. He hates seeing Gov sad, but he never did anything about it when it happened.

And oh boy did Louisiana not like that answer. He stepped up and stood in front of Gov in an almost protective manner, despite Florida's efforts to stop him. "Oh hell nah- Who da hell do ya think you are to tell im' what he can an' cant do wit' his own life?"

"Why tf does it matta' to you bud?" Penn asked.

"Cuz that's ma' damn partner yer talkin' to right dere'." Loui said, glaring into the taller state's soul. He can sense some slight fear stirring in Pennsylvania. Good. Very good.

"Well I'm his father, if ya must know."

"Oh yea I know. I know this very well. And by da way, he's a grown ass man and he can make his own life decisions." said the Pelican State.

"W-well I don't give a f*CK that he's a grown man, I'm still his father and what I say goes." PA said, mentally cursing himself for stuttering. He didn't know why he was a tad bit afraid of Louisiana right now, but he was. He noticed that his bf and the other two states in the living room, were watching now.

"His father? Y'know, ya don't seem like much of a father, Pennsylvania. Especially considering you literally paid little to no attention to him growing up. You were never f*ckin' dere' for im', ya only really interacted with him if he made even the smallest of mistakes. It doesn't really seem like you're a father, you're more like just a overwhelming shadow that looms over him to do nothing but instruct him as if he ain't a damn living being too." Louisiana said with an amount of malice and anger that left everybody present in mild shock (even Alaska, who had "just stepped out to get a drink"). Everybody was used to Loui being really really nice and friendly and laid back. He never got angry. But oh boy was it sure as hell scary. And yet, PA then had the audacity to slap the smaller across that face and start speaking again:

"I think that if you knew any better, you would shut your mouth and let me parent my kid."

And at the same time, Florida rushed over had grabbed Loui's face, running his thumb over where PA had slapped him and asking if he was okay. He kinda expected Loui to be crying a little bit, but at the same time he was not surprised by the dangerous look in the smaller's eyes and the bloody grin on his face. Well shi-

Next thing they knew, Louisiana landed a good hard punch across PA's face, which sent him back a bit. He waited until PA regained his composure to scratch him across the face with his claws, leaving a nasty bleeding gash on the older's cheek. He whimpered a bit in pain when the older retaliated by punching him in the ribs and threw him to the ground.

PA started to walk away, thinking he had won, but then he felt himself get tackled to the ground by something smaller and grunted a bit. He flipped around just in time to see Louisiana draw back his fist and punch him again, he time surely breaking his nose, based in the loud crack and wave of pain that shot through his face.

The other state's saw this is a good time to butt in. Alaska was the brave soul that quickly walked over and managed to pry a very pissed of Louisiana off of PA, who was roughly pulled to his feet by Texas and Massachusetts.

"Cmon Alaska! I wasn't done with him!!" Loui said, struggling in Alaska's hold.

"Jesus Christ- you broke his damn nose- stop squirming- I think that's more than enough, little guy." Alaska said,chuckling a bit at the smaller's craving for further violence. He set down Louisiana but kept a firm grip on his shoulders so that he couldnt get away.

Florida and Gov ran over to where Alaska was holding Loui captive. Florida instantly wrapped the Pelican State in a hug and Gov checked him over for any serious injuries. Aside from a bloody lip and some possibly bruised ribs, Loui seemed to be okay.

How? Gov didn't know. Normally those that got into a fight with PA would be in worse condition, but in this case, PA was the one that was in worse shape than his opponent.

"Uh- Thanks Alaska. For prying him off my father." Gov said, looking up at Alaska with a partially forced smile.

"Whatever. It's no big deal. Here you can have your feral cat back, I'm gonna go back to the wilderness." Alaska said, letting go of the Pelican State. 'Hehe wait til Hawaii hears about this sh*t!' he thought to himself before walking back to the garage.

The three states walked over to where NY was sitting in the living room.

"Ya good Swamp-For-Brains?" New York asked Louisiana, not looking up from his book.

"Ofc sha. Can't say the same for PA tho." Loui responded, gesturing towards where PA was with Texas and Mass. Texas was patching up the older whilst Mass was lecturing him on how stupid his actions were.

York turned around and laughed a bit at the sight. "Moron shoulda kept his mouth shut and his hands to imself'."

"Exactly." Loui said, smiling proudly.

"I also got that sh*t on video for entertainment purposes if any of you morons want it." York said.

"Yea sure." Said everybody....
