Pairing Dynamics of Hanamiya + Kiridai
Inspired by how in the “best pair” ranking in Kurofes, it specifically said that there were a lot of votes for pairs involving Hanamiya and the rest of Kiridai. So I’m just gonna ramble about them with some headcanons.
Furuhashi - Hanamiya
My most favorite
Everyone in Kiridai isn’t too fazed by Hanamiya’s anger. At least his “baseline anger”, cause we’ve seen even Furuhashi being surprised by Hanamiya being especially angry.
But I just love Furuhashi’s overall cool-collected demeanor to Hanamiya’s short fuse in particular.
The side eye the side eye the side eye
My favorite genre of images (the anime versions are cute but I think I prefer the manga ones overall)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Hanamiya was first building up the starter lineup and sizing up the team members, Hanamiya acknowledged Furuhashi’s skills as a basketball player but  was especially drawn in by the dark aura Furuhashi gave off and the glint in Furuhashi’s dead-eyes, with Furuhashi being the most eager to give rough play a try.
Other players were reluctant about it, but Furuhashi was all in at the start.
Hanamiya was impressed by how much of a natural Furuhashi was at it
And also amused by the way Furuhashi purposely acts obtuse about it when confronted.
Furuhashi is the most onboard with it and is willing to try any “new methods” Hanamiya suggests, including the “finger snaps” ones.
They have a mutually beneficial relationship. Hanamiya benefits from Furuhashi’s willingness to participate in his methods, and Furuhashi gets to satiate his sadistic needs.
Furuhashi is a comforting calm presence for Hanamiya.
Though he can be a tad annoyed with how Furuhashi doesn’t really mince words or will call out his bullshit without hesitating (with the same monotone voice lol) Source: The Kiridai epilogue.
Seto - Hanamiya
Self explanatory but still sweet.
Canonically understands Hanamiya the most.
Seto’s the one person in the group that Hanamiya can in some way, let his guard down
Not overtly sappy but since Seto’s the one who can come close to understanding Hanamiya’s mind, Hanamiya is more willing to drop a pinch of vulnerability.
With Hanamiya’s “Did you really think I’d say that, idiot?” moments, Seto can catch on the times where there was some truth to Hanamiya’s “lie”
I like to think Seto and Hanamiya had a similar first interaction as Imayoshi and Hanamiya did back in junior high, where Imayoshi was the first to catch on to Hanamiya's fake goody two shoes act (see chapter 6 of Replace V).
Except unlike Imayoshi, Seto was never condescending. And Seto’s reason for catching on wasn’t based on some cynical belief like “there’s no such thing as a good person”, Seto’s just not stupid.
And of course, Hanamiya addressing Seto by his first name….cute
The crumbs we got in the 10th anniversary disc were honestly so cute, so glad we got to hear “Kentaro” from Hanamiya again.
Yamazaki - Hanamiya
This one is cute to me. I love how chill Yamazaki is with Hanamiya
He just has this grin whenever he interacts with him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hanamiya is put off by Yamazaki’s abrasiveness and honestly had some doubts about adding him to the starting lineup, with him being either reluctant or too obvious with the roughplay when he gave it a try. He had some concerns about Yamazaki being too much of a goody two shoes.
But his basketball skills were enough, more than enough even.
Especially with Hanamiya clearing putting more focus on the team’s “foundational skills”, post-Seirin v. Rakuzan, which I believe Yamazaki has the most of (aside from Hanamiya himself)
Hanamiya has mixed feelings overall about Yamazaki, but had eventually grown accustomed to this presence, enough to a point where it would be odd if he wasn’t there.
Even though Yamazaki can be a pain in the ass who enjoys pushing his buttons a bit too much.
Hara - Hanamiya
Sad we don’t really have much canon interactions between them. I believe it was just in the manga, where Hanamiya yelled at him and Yamazaki, but even then it was moreso at Yamazaki.
Mentioned this in a prior post, but Hara and Hanamiya tag team with their respective positions in the Health and Disciplinary committees
Holding these positions allows the Kiridai basketball club to keep the rough-play hush hush from the school, as they can circumvent any reports that may come in.
This goes with my headcanon that they practice their rough play on the third-string players, and some of them want to report them. But are met with threats from both Hanamiya and Hara.
Like Furuhashi, Hara was eager to participate in the rough play. But less for sadistic reasons and moreso to piss off people. Either way, this made things easier for Hanamiya.
Hara teases Hanamiya like everyone else but is loyal to him (and the rest of the team but probably wouldn’t admit it.)
When Hanamiya needs “something done”, Hara’s the one he’ll ask. And Hara would normally comply without question.
I completely subscribe to Hara calling Hanamiya “boss” or “sir”
Although Hanamiya can be annoyed by them, having to reel them in at times, both Yamazaki and Hara are comforting presences in their own way. He doesn’t realize it but he needs their spunk to balance things out.
He would realize  this if the two of them were gone for a while, and it becomes “annoyingly quiet”.
“Can’t live with them, can’t live without them” kind of thing.

Can we have what the kiridai boys would do if their cute manager have an upcoming birthday ? Like would they throw a lil birthday surprise, or would they just be nonchalant & just go on their days like normal maybe some teasing here and there ?
these lads are all about surprise parties, bc part of the fun is convincing you that they’ve forgotten your birthday completely
and most of them are very good liars too (of course)
that is, except for zaki whose good little heart wants to tell you happy birthday first thing (but who is monitored by hara the whole day)
and also except for seto, who does have a v good poker face, but who’s not lying because he’s actually forgotten
so you spend the whole day thinking “dickheads”, but then, when the school day’s over, and hanamiya tells you to hurry up to practice…
surprise!
nothing happens.
that’s part of the trick: having the party right after school is too obvious, and also they wouldn’t be able to exercise if they’d eaten cake five minutes prior
anyway so, at this point, you’re probably feeling a little miserable
(luckily zaki’s too busy practicing so is distracted from feeling bad and thus being driven to spoil the surprise)
and then, it’s only post practice, that the “surprise” actually begins
but in the worst possible way cause these are high school kids, not party planners
it goes as follows
furuhashi (chosen because he’s not got a reputation for being a trickster): manager, have you seen my tie
manager, who just wants to go home: why would i have seen your tie
furuhashi (carrying on with the ruse well because he doesn’t tend to show emotions on his face regardless): can you help me look in the changing room
manager: there are 5 probably naked boys in there, so no
furuhashi: *straight up grabs and drags manager in*
surprise!
birthday party in this case means one party-paper-chain-decoration-things (you know what i mean), everyone (but not hanamiya) wearing a little party hat, and of course a cake + presents
5 presents to be precise because, again, seto forgot
anyway you negotiate to bring the cake outside so you don’t have to eat it in a changing room that stinks of sweat (hara’s brilliant party planning didn’t think that one through)
so party becomes the 7 of you sitting cross-legged in the gym fighting over cake (another flaw in hara’s plan - it is very difficult for the birthday person to eat as much cake as they want, when surrounded by 6 ravenous post-practice teens)
at least the gifts are good!
well zaki, furuhashi and matsumoto’s gifts are; hara’s is a joke, and hanamiya’s is related to your role as a manager
but it’s a good fun time all around, 10/10 banter, even when, whilst the boys walk you home, a stranger laughs at seeing the bunch of you still wearing party hats
and then on the following saturday, the bunch of you spend the whole day together
which isn’t uncommon, given streetball matches, the lot of you having no other friends, etc
but this saturday, it’s less basketball and more just hanging out, maybe going somewhere fun
(also seto actually remembering his gift for you)
and you get to choose where to eat lunch, which is the ultimate honour

I believe you will succeed. I didn't like gom very much at first, but I liked Kiridai. I ask for a scenario about Kirisaki and their fem s/o. When they come to school in the morning, the guys see an inscription on the board: "Who will score the least points for the test, he will meet with s/o (will meet as a guy and a girl: dates, kisses, etc. )." Thank you, I appreciate your attempt.
Hello! I'm sorry to answer this late (I was really busy (>_<) )
Hanamiya Makoto
• Notice directly that something's up when he enters in the classroom but doesn't mind it
• He kicks his chair before to seat at his desk
• (From the moment where he cames, everybody stop to laugh)
• He sees the board and putting is chin on his paln he says : You guys are idiot. *mocking laugh* Are you trying to find who is the dumbest of you?
• Anyway, if the girls is pretty he would steal her to the loser
• His classmates are angry/afraid /indignant but tell nothing
• During the test Hanamiya comes late distracting everyone
• He stares other to distract them and he does many other annoying things (like whisle, smack tongue...). It amuses him.
• In the end he gets the highest score cause he's a genius
• He acts like if he had the worst score
• Peoples fall for it
• He swears to the loser that he'll have the worst date ever but get bored because the loser is too afraid
Kazuya Hara
• He's one of those who has the idea of this challenge first
• Laughing a lot to the other reactions
• Say mockingly to those who don't want to take part to this that their affraid and cowards
• He doesn't have s/o but any girl with beautiful legs will be ok
• He does the test without any stress and he gets a correct score
• He takes the loser by his shoulders and tells him that he can give him advices for the date, like how to kiss with the tongue just to embarrass him.
• He makes sure with other classmates that the loser keep his promise to ask his s/o
• If by chance he have the worst score (this is unlikely), he wouldn't hesitate to invite a girl for a date (event if he doesn't in love.)
• He would go to an amusement park with his s/o
Kōjirō Furuhashi
• First he does as if he doesn't see what is on the board
• But because of Kazuya mockery, he takes part of the bet
• He pretends to not have a girl he likes but it's not true.
• During the test he cheats
• He pretends that as much as the teacher doesn't see him it is not cheating.
• Don't fall to the test
• If he had fallen, he wouldn't do it.
Kentarō Seto
• He doesn't pay attention to what is on the board
• He sleeps in class
• Doesn't really care to girls but if he have to choose he'd ask to the smarter girl of the class
• He comes late to the test cause he did a nap
• Even he could answer right to all test question, he bores and he falls asleep
• He fails
• Because others guys bother him he invites the smartest girl of the class
• The day of the date he doesn't do anything particular for his look.
• He's at the rendez-vous at time
• He goes to a café with his s/o and they talk a lot
• They appreciate the moment
Hiroshi Yamazaki
• Always ready to take challenges
• At the moment when he enters in the classroom he sees the board
• He finds the idea funny
• Like Kazuya, Hiroshi would be happy to give advices for a date to the loser
• His s/o would be a girl cheerful
• He just does the test like he does usually
• If he has a correct score, he teases the loser
• If he fails, he does not have any difficulty to invite his s/o.
• He would have a great time
• They could go to an arcade, or he mays learn to the girl how to play to his fight game. He could teach her how to play basket. He'd end the date in a little restaurant.

I end the scenarios here, I don't have any informations about Itsuki Matsumoto to imagine something about him. I hope I have answered to your request!

Neon: zombie apocalypse head canons for Kirisaki DaÄŤchi. Who's first to get bit? Who dies a reluctant hero? Etc Thanks!!
Zombie AU. The fastest way to my heart~
the outbreak happens while they’re at school in the gym
Hara thought it was weird when a random student ran into the gym; nobody ever intruded on their practices, they knew they’d be dead meat if they did
only, this kid was dead
Furuhashi is the first to notice that this student’s eyes just aren’t quite right, ironically
everyone is surprised when he pushes the student and they simply stumble, growling like an animal
when the student lunges at him, it’s Seto who saves him by throwing a folded metal chair at the student’s head
when it simply snaps backward, but the student still struggles, they’re all terrified
after finally realizing what’s going on—and inevitably killing the zombified student—the entire team holes themselves up in the gym
for the most part, they all seem to have no qualms about bashing in a few zombie skulls, especially since some of the zombies were students and teachers they’d always despised
Yamazaki is the first one to puke after they kill their first zombie
after days of living in the gym, they start to run out of supplies
it’s Hanamiya who suggests they go out in rotations to collect what they need, only going out two at a time
we all know how that ended

who one of the kiridays are most wealthiest?
seto kentaro - very wealthy, and probably belongs to quite a powerful family too. one of his parents, if not both, is involved in top level politics and/or organised crime and/or is a shareholder to some big businesses. seto doesn’t really care about what they do, and he has no interest in upholding the family business. despite his upbringing, he’s not a big spender, and he doesn’t go out of his way to buy expensive stuff. the only way you can tell his background is by how comfortable he is talking with very powerful people, cause he grew up occasionally attending events where he’d be expected to do so, alongside his brother.
hara kazuya, yamazaki hiroshi, furuhashi kojiro - all similar levels of wealth (mind you, hara and yamazaki’s parents have had to pay for 3x expensive school fees, so they were either always richer, or are now a little poorer than furu’s parents). they earned their wealth from a mix of jobs that require a solid education and that pay very well, like corporate lawyer roles or being a heart surgeon etc. i think matsumoto’s probably a similar level of wealth to these guys too, maybe just a touch less.
hanamiya makoto - as i’m sure you’re all aware, i hc that hanamiya got into kiridai on a scholarship and that his mother would have struggled to afford the fees otherwise (more details here). as the only guy on the team from a single parent family, obviously that affects the finance situation. but it doesn’t affect his relationship with the others at all - wealth never really comes up as a topic between them - and i like to think that his mother has benefited from being able to network with the other kiridai’s parents too.
proper post on the parents coming soon... watch this space.

Hi okay so I think I got something on team interactions. Which one is lowkey jealous of who but would never admit it?
Yamazaki’s jealous of Hanamiya for many reasons - for example, how Hanamiya has no godawful annoying siblings, and also how close is with his mother (Yamazaki has a more argumentative relationship with his own mother) (see here for further comments on this). But, more than the family issue, Yamazaki’s jealous of Hanamiya’s confidence, his swagger, the way he gets away with pretty much anything. He wants to be as invincible and carefree as Hanamiya seems to be.
Hara’s similar to Yamazaki in that he’s also jealous of Hanamiya’s family life - though, not as jealous as Yamazaki, as Hara gets along with his brothers pretty well. But, Hara’s also mildly jealous that Seto could get good grades without doing any work at all; not that Hara does that much work (or is unintelligent), and not that Seto slacks off working, “but still”, he’ll whine, “a big brain is wasted on you.” (Hara thinks big brains ought to be reserved for the wicked and/or the funny.)
Furuhashi’s jealous of Hara, in particular, how easily Hara gets along with people. Hara’s the type of person who can start up a conversation with a stranger, who smiles effortlessly and rarely means it - whereas Furuhashi, when around people he doesn’t know, becomes awkward and therefore cold, even when he doesn’t mean to be.
Matsumoto’s jealous of the way that Seto fits in so comfortably in the team, of how the team is designed around him. After all, Matsumoto’s time on the court during matches is mostly dictated by how long Seto’s going to be playing, how much Seto wants to sleep, etc. Matsumoto just wants to get a say in the matter one time too.
Seto’s jealous of how Matsumoto fits into the team (I know, I know, the irony). Don’t get me wrong, he enjoys being part of the spider’s web and talking tactics with Hanamiya, but sometimes he’d appreciate being able to chill a bit and play basketball in matches without having to be part of the spider’s web. Plus, he knows he’s not the best player on the team, and he doesn’t really care, but he would appreciate not hearing people wonder why he’s coming on after Matsumoto when Matsumoto’s ‘clearly the better player’.

KiriDai as ghosts? 🤔 How would they haunt a place, do some of them don't care and would rather be left alone, etc.?
Hanamiya Makoto
thoroughly enjoys being a ghost
finds himself a nice place to haunt as a base: in a rural area, but overlooking the city, so he can feel superior, and he enjoys his fully-stocked library in his spare time
he makes sure no one ever bothers him in this place by keeping it terrifying, and killing anyone who’s stupid enough to not be terrified (more specifically, starving them to death in the basement)
anyway around half of his time is spent alone, but the other half is spent going to the city and causing trouble, and entertaining himself by exploring just how much psychological damage he can do
Hara Kazuya
strongly believes that there’s no fun in being a ghost unless you get to annoy people
hangs around the city, haunts different apartments and tries his best to leave spooky messages to at least get some conversation going
so he has his ‘pet human’ who he haunts on a friendly basis, and then, when he gets bored, he goes to do some proper haunting
you know, your usual leaving blood on the walls and terrifying local teens to death (ideally, in his mind, literally)
Furuhashi Kojiro
haunts some abandoned castle all alone, and enjoys the fact that he finally has access to peace and quiet
spends his days gardening, dusting, going for strolls around the countryside
but he doesn’t want people to come visit his castle
so when some idiot teens do wander in, and start coming up with conspiracy theories as to why all the flowers are blooming in this haunted house, he gets rid of them very quickly
Seto Kentaro
the shittiest ghost ever, just not bothered to haunt anything
you could live in a house that he’s also inhabiting for like 10 years, and you’d only ever have one scary moment, cause he doesn’t do anything
man reads a bit at midnight, so even your most forgotten books have no dust - which is a little spooky - but that’s about it
spends most of his time hidden away, trying to fall asleep, and cursing the fact he’s a ghost which means he can’t really sleep anymore
craves that eternal rest. would happily get ghost-busted if it would put him out of his misery.
Yamazaki Hiroshi
he’s in a bit of a tricky situation cause he does want to talk to people again - he hates being a ghost - but he also doesn’t really want to scare people
he mostly haunts his old family home, which makes him kinda depressed, now that none of his family live there anymore
but he tries his best to be a good ghost for the new resident, e.g. by finding their missing stuff for them and placing it where they can see it but without its new location being too suspicious
does he also sometimes lose his temper and make the whole house go crazy (doors slamming shut, lights on and off, water pouring out of all taps)? yes.
it’s the loneliness that sets him off :(

Hello, this might be oddly specific, but can I please have some kiridai boys hcs with s/o who's into taxidermy and collecting bones (both animal and human ones). It's my main interest, and having all the 'weird' stuff (e.g. few dead animals and whole ass real human skeleton) makes me afraid of getting to know new people, because they tend to be scared of me after they see this collection of mine or even when they hear what I like to do in my free time Thank you and have a nice day!
hanamiya makoto
this man has a whole ass smile light up on his face when he sees your collection
very interested (worryingly interested) in the process behind cleaning bones
plus, the more you tell him, the more his own expertise about chemistry kicks in and makes him want to find out even more
suddenly, he’s bringing bones to you that he’s somehow found (don’t ask) to do experiments with, in figuring out what will strip the bone of flesh fastest, if any chemicals can make them whiter, etc
i guess you’ve got a partner in crime now, so to speak
furuhashi kojiro
has a thing about stroking taxidermied animals as if they’re alive
otherwise, he’s not a bone collecting type of guy; ironically for someone who looks like a serial killer, he prefers bringing things to life (that’s all gardening is, right?)
but he’s also not someone who would ever be made uncomfortable by a few dead bodies here and there
so you’ve got yourself a very companion: he will happily let you talk his ear off about your hobby, because none of it will ever disturb him
hara kazuya
knows nothing at all about bone collection (unless we’re talking about the hara from this au), but is pretty damn impressed by your assortment of things
spends one hour going round saying “what’s this” “what do you use this for?” “and this is-?” “yo what if we taxidermied furuhashi would that be fun or what, wouldn’t even notice a difference”
yeah, taxidermy in particular catches hara’s interest because he has no morals/ethics that might stop him from telling you to taxidermy this dead animal into a stripper-looking thing; everything in his mind is just potential gag TM
expect him to demand to be taught how to do it
(but, for furuhashi’s sake, please don’t)
yamazaki hiroshi
you know that “looking respectfully” meme? that’s zaki when he first sees your collection
he tries to be a polite boy but, to say the least, it’s a bit of a shock
aka he’s gawking at the human skeleton like he doesn’t play the most gruesome and detailed fighting games
“but doesn’t not burying them mean they’re gonna, you know, haunt people?”
it’s not that he’s judging you, it’s just that he genuinely thinks you’re some ultra-powerful black magic wizard
seto kentaro
like furuhashi, he’s unbothered about seeing a set of human bones, and even when he asks, “did you kill it?”, he sounds more curious than anything
doesn’t believe in ghosts or magic or anything like that either, so there’s literally nothing that could possibly scare him about your set up
can very much appreciate the science behind bone cleaning/restoring/etc, though taxidermy’s a little too fiddly for him to want to be involved
but if you made/bought him a lil taxidermied mouse for his birthday? it’d be sat on his otherwise minimalistic desk for the rest of his days

Headcanons or a scenario maybe, of the kiridai boys protecting/defending each other? Because people are going to be mean to them and I just want to see them be friends
Right so
actually before i talk about high school, i just wanna say that hara and yamazaki (who in my mind are childhood friends, as you all probably know) have been defending each other for ages
e.g. in middle school, though neither of them were ever bullied, they had a brilliant love/hate relationship, based off the logic that “i can bully you but no one else can”
so imagine that they get in a fight (cause you know hara was always trying to rile zaki up, and middle school zaki had even less self restraint), maybe zaki storms out of the room
some snotty-nosed lil “i wanna be friends with hara” loser dares to mock how ‘badly’ zaki fights, to which hara responds with beating that guy up as well
the two always had each other’s back
tbf that applies to high school kiridai too
in short, the boys just have an instinct to lie for one another - if anyone asks why seto’s missing from a lesson without a reason, etc - but, at the same time, they can never lie to one another, it’s always too obvious
but enough of abstract concepts, the people want real ✨team interactions✨
anyway
realistically, there’s not a lot of situations where they need to protect each other, given that they have a pretty comfortable situation in school
no one has the audacity to try bully them, including the teachers, thanks to Mr Makoto’s lil disciplinary committee making sure that no discipline whatsoever happens
yeah come to think of it, makoto’s the big protector man huh
imagine even daring to bring up that, i dunno, furuhashi threatened to kill a fellow student, at the disciplinary committee meeting
hanamiya sat back on his chair, grinning, like: sorry?
dumb but bold (sticking up for a friend) first year: i have it on very good authority that 2nd year furuhashi kojiro held a knife to my friend’s throat after my friend accidentally bumped into him.
hanamiya: i have it on better authority that that’s bullshit. so, moving on...
first year has no further reply cause one of the older members gives them a very warning look
the best thing about all is this that hanamiya doesn’t even need to threaten people anymore; all the first years get warned by people who’ve previously had associations with hanamiya, and so it goes
let’s summarise a bit:
hanamiya will never defend his buddies to someone else, in the sense that he won’t say anything nice about them (except he probably had to break this rule to explain, to the others, why he was bringing seto onto the team). but he is the constant protector, allowing them to run free as the wind
matsumoto doesn’t tend to say anything positive about his teammates (especially not about hanamiya, which is a bit sneaky - cause he’s also benefiting from the disciplinary committee situation), but, occasionally, if someone in one of his not-basketball circles is criticising them (particularly if they’re criticising zaki), he’ll let out a hmmph or even a “you don’t know what you’re talking about. fuck off”
seto makes everyone sound good in front of their parents. he’s as good as hanamiya when it comes to interacting with people’s parents, except, when hanamiya compliments you to your mother, you know he’s fucking with you. when seto does it, it takes you by surprise. it almost sounds a lil sincere in his gruff way of acknowledging that you don’t suck :’)
zaki is a very intense defender of his teammates, and he can and will get physical. but alas no one really criticises his teammates around him as a result.
the last time it happened, was that a bunch of smart students were walking past him complaining about seto (“i’ve seen him sleeping in lessons so there’s no way he got the top mark for this exam without cheating”) and mr. delinquent zaki, tieless, was already rolling up his sleeves, like “the fuck did you just say?”
then hara’s also a “the fuck did you just say” kinda guy, but in a more sing-songy way, like “hmmm? what was that? maybe i didn’t hear you right but i thought you just said my captain was a talentless fraud.”
this is said whilst approaching two gossiping basketball playing first years (from a different school) from behind, hara popping his head in between theirs, his arms around their shoulders, like
“doesn’t deserve to be a considered an uncrowned king, huh?”
and then, when he walks away, the first year’s probably have bloodied faces
(hara has a heavy dose of imayoshi energy in him - a tentacle nightmare)
furuhashi, finally, is a bit quieter. he’s prefers to walk into people, trip them over, etc, rather than the whole big confrontation
but if he hears someone, perhaps a certain student at the end of the day, walking with his friends, commenting on, for example, how he has ancient literature with hara, and how hara acts so tough but he’s really just a nerd with a shitty dye job
well furu can’t stand for that (:
grabs that guy, shoves him against the wall, pulls his penknife out (yeah furu carries a penknife around with him for pruning and whatnot, the ‘whatnot’ referring to situations like this) and presses it against the guy’s neck
the dude in front of his is shaking, seriously shaking
and furu’s just there with the knife and a completely blank gaze.
when his victim’s eyes go moist, the knife gets pressed a little harder against his neck, and furuhashi says, with absolutely no emotion,
“oh look. you’ve pissed yourself.”

hara x reader x furuhashi: poly relationship hcs
alright folks long time no poly relationship hcs let’s get this started
the dynamic would be funky in this pairing, that’s for sure: you’ve got hara, who’s the Wild Child TM, and you’ve got furu, who hates Wild Children TM, and you’ve got you, probably a healthy dose of the both of them
it ends up with you and furuhashi having to ‘parent’ hara who has absolutely no restraints
imagine you and furu go out for a nice date at a little patisserie, maybe sharing a slice of fruit cake, with the warm summer breeze in your hair, etc etc
then all of a sudden post-streetball hara shows up, slides his head in between the two of yours, kisses you both on the lips, and it’s only when you finish scolding him for being inappropriate that you realise that, in the chaos, he’s stolen the remains of the cake
that’s this relationship summed up
see, furu’s a cat. he’s all about subtle love, the little things, slight touches. we’re talking chaste kisses on your cheek as he cooks, or a slight smile shared with hara in the middle of a match.
whereas hara’s a dog. he refuses to allow the two of you to be affectionate without getting him somehow caressed - to have a conversation with furuhashi, at least one of you has to be giving hara a head massage to shut him up (his boy loves head massages)
also hara’s a dog because he will just fucking lick you, slobber all over your shoulder out of spite.
anyway, when in public, most people would take the three of you to be a relationship between you + hara, and assume that furu’s a third wheel (his constantly peeved expression doesn’t help), since you and hara try to respect that furu’s not a big fan of pda
doesn’t help that hara’s very loud about his feelings
concept: some guy hits on you.
immediately hara’s all in his face, threatening to beat him up (largely because he just wants to beat someone up), whilst furuhashi’s more likely to be watching from the sidelines - his input is in not helping you shut hara up, and also giving hara a slight nod to go on
yeah furu grumbles a lot about you and hara, and especially hara, but he loves you both just as much as you two love him
he buys you flowers, teaches you their meanings; he preps bentos for hara, with fresh fruit + veg, to make sure hara’s staying healthy before matches (maybe even cuts him a little sausage octopus, or makes a smile out of seaweed)
furu: hara you’re a fool and every minute i spend with you cuts my life expectancy in half
also furu: plays with hara’s hair for the whole movie, kisses him on the forehead when he finally stops talking
other things to note are the fact that hara’s very much the one who comes up with wacky date ideas. he’s the one at 1am, waking you and furu up to be like “yo i bought ferry tickets to okinawa hurry up we’ll be late” without having ever mentioned it to either of you beforehand
and who’s going to stop him? mr. furuhashi “go with the flow” kojiro?
actually speaking of sleep, here’s the Bedtime dynamic:
you and furu lying beside no another, maybe your arm over furu, maybe furu’s leg looped with yours.
a picturesque scene, right?
wrong. hara is roleplaying a blanket and is splayed across the two of you and some of his sleep drool will probably get on your face

Can we get more beach trip headcannons except this time with female! manager, Thank you I love your work❤️❤️❤️
original beach training camp hcs here - worth reading for context
look at my ass saying ‘context’ as if this is some literary analysis
on the one hand, with the manager around, hanamiya’s no longer the only adult there to look after everything
on the other hand, manager-chan has to be a little mad to be even be working with the boys, and thus she’s only going to be adding to the chaos
for example, half the time, she’s telling hara that no he can’t just claim he has to protect her from the ‘’renowned okinawan beach ghost’ in order to get out of practice, and the other half of the time, she’s plotting with him at 2am about how they terrorise the others and make them think that the beach ghost does exist
side note: seto doesn’t believe in ghosts or anything that’s not explained by science; hanamiya’s the same but he pretends he worships satan every once in a while just for the sake of freaking people out; who knows if furuhashi believes in them in not, but, even if he saw a ghost, he wouldn’t be impressed
and yamazaki’s the type of say they’re stupid, and then start fucking screaming as he goes through a haunted house and then, once he’s out of there, claim that he was never phased in the slightest, and that it was furuhashi grabbing onto everyone’s arms (furuhashi’s a good target cause he’s not a large enough dick to dispute it and embarrass yamazaki; he just kinda raises an eyebrow and moves on)
road trip fic where everyone visits a haunted house and does all kinds of stupid shit when?
anyway that’s why yamazaki’s sitting in on the “reviving beach ghost” conversation (you can’t get scared if you are the ghost, am i right?)
the plan with the ghost is simple and is supposed to involve a) manager dressing up as the ghost (long black dress, hair over her face, etc), b) yamazaki making ghostly sounds (he’s good at sound effects, it’s not as stupid an idea as it sounds), c) hara’s gonna film it all (and also buy the necessary supplies, like fake blood etc)
the problem is that discussing satanically plans at 2am, after you’ve had a full day of practice (or a full day of dealing with these idiots), is that you’re not going to be awake at 7am
which is when hanamiya storms in wondering why half the team are missing
although the sight of people covered in dark cloaks (they’re just blankets; it got cold in the night) and pages filled with drawings of pentagrams (it took zaki that many tries before he could draw it without it it being wonky) may be a little unnerving
nothing is more terrifying than a fuming hanamiya dragging you out of bed when you’re still half asleep
and he also finds the written plans so, all in all, mission failed
Moving On
this is already fucking long and i’ve only just started shit
given that seto never plays in full matches, his fitness plan is a little more lenient - aka, sometimes when everyone else is off running and dribbling and whatnot, it’s just manager-chan and seto on the beach, enjoying their holiday
this is helpful as a) it prevents seto from being forgotten (see previous training camp post), and b) it gives their manager the time to very helpfully apply suncream for him, probably in a pattern, so he gets the image of a flower sunburnt to his stomach
the best part of it is that seto doesn’t even give a shit
catch him floating off on his back to the middle of the philippine sea with the flower shining against the sun like a message from god
actually that raises a very important point about the boy’s swimming abilities so,
yamazaki + hara: good swimmers, neither ever took lessons so their strokes aren’t too polished, but they can goof around in the sea and try to drown one another without anyone actually drowning (or, at least, that’s what the manager’s there for)
furuhashi: very good swimmer, even better diver. disappears without making a single ripple in the water, no bubbles either. he just appears all of a sudden from underneath your feet like “this is a pretty shell, isn’t it?” as if his dark presence at the sea bed hadn’t just made several people think there’s a shark about
seto’s real good at floating, and at a mediocre backstroke, and that’s all he ever does - or is bothered to do
matsumoto takes pride in the fact he’s a faster swimmer than anyone else on the team (except for furu that is), and he likes to do the butterfly stroke angrily up and down the shore to get rid of all his pent up stress (hanamiya never comments on it, cause hey it’s just extra fitness training)
and finally hanamiya was unable to swim for a very long time (and there is many a photo of him with swimming armbands, hidden in his bedroom, from when everyone was coming over, and he couldn’t let them know that he has a weakness
however, one time, hara had a pool party when hanamiya still couldn’t swim, and hara threw him into the pool, and he just somehow learned how to in those few seconds? talk about survival instinct
alright back to our scheduled program
furuhashi is damn good at fishing. like damn good, like doesn’t even need a rod, he just shoves his arm in, somehow grabs one, and guts it and prepares the meal there on the beach
having to eat dinner with a furuhashi whose hands and some of his chest are stained with blood (normally he’d wash it off, but he’s a little emo at heart. went through a phase as a child where he was really into blood vials, and satanic witchcraft and all that) may be a little disconcerting, but it’s also a lovely time :)
picture the scene, dear reader
all the lads, surrounded by the sunset, the evening tide and the lush green in the background, sat by a little stove fire over which furuhashi is frying the fish
matsumoto and the manager chatting about the competitions scheduled for after the team gets back (you’d think hanamiya would be involved in this discussion, but Coach Time TM is over, and now he and hara are challenging one another to watch over hot coals, as furuhashi patiently warms up more stones for them)
seto probably helping furuhashi out; either that, or telling yamazaki all the many illnesses he might catch from the ocean, as zaki takes a massive bite of seaweed and then spits it all out
everyone eventually getting dragged into the hot coals battle
someone almost definitely gets burnt (spoiler alert it’s zaki) and manager-chan has to bandage him up as he yells at a laughing hara that he was sabotaged and that he can handle heat better than anyone else here
he dives on the hot coals as if to make his point
and thus matsumoto and furuhashi have to carry him back to the hotel, cause now he’s got even more burns (and he’s also a little baby who doesn’t like pain, but don’t let him here you say that)
oh the woes of training camps when two of your group have very high IQs, and yet there is still only 1 brain cell being shared between 7 people

kiridai as youtubers (au)
Hanamiya Makoto
hanamiya’s youtube has very much a ‘jack of all trades’ thing going on
on the more academic front, it’s a mix of video essays, well constructed analyses of other youtuber’s content (mostly creepier videos), and some book reviews (mostly non-fiction, where he adds his own research into the mix)
and on the more chill side, it’s very snarky commentary videos criticising stuff he found on the internet (occasionally with hara), exploring some internet rabbit holes, and some well-edited and simplistic vlogs about his study day
the people who are a fan of his more intellectual content are pretty chill; the people who are a fan of his snarky commentary videos are dangerously obsessed
probably one of those youtubers where no one really criticises them, cause of how unpleasant their fans will be in the backlash
Hara Kazuya + Yamazaki Hiroshi
writing these two together cause they’re pretty much a package deal
hara was originally a pranking + public interview channel (cause this man has no shame), but over time he’s chilled out and has mostly more vlogs w/ friends (often featuring street ball), and the occasional drum cover
zaki has been a gaming channel throughout his time on youtube; the only videos that aren’t gaming-related are his infrequent vlogs from when he’s spent the day with hara
yeah zaki’s the most common face to see on hara’s channel
and these days, they also stream together whilst gaming
hara really does wear zaki out though, poor guy; zaki will be in the middle of a very intense fight, whilst hara’s at the side like “where’s the befriend button don’t you think it’s kinda unfair they don’t let us befriend the boss” and “why’s this green guy following me, is it into me or not <haraaaaa was blown up by a creeper>
at the same time, it’s mad entertaining watching zaki (the ‘pro-gamer’) explaining the rules of the game very seriously, whilst hara finds exasperating zaki even more entertaining
Seto Kentaro
started off with a studygram, that became popular due to how organised (and aesthetic without being overly so) (see here for what i’m talking about) the photos were, and also how eloquently the captions would be written
i mean, sometimes the captions are just “friday at the library” and sometimes they’re mini essays on whatever has piqued his interest recently, with footnotes and everything
then started posting on youtube, mostly just long and unedited videos of him studying (without his head in the frame), those kinda asmr/“study with me” videos
but he posts very rarely on youtube, and he’s not particularly active on instagram either - honestly the only reason he’s earning any money from it, is because none of his videos get demonetised and the algorithm treats them very well
will probably stop posting when he graduates uni (though granted, with his plans to do a masters, and possibly even a phd, that may not happen for some time)
Furuhashi Kojiro
has two youtube channels
one is one of those aesthetic/peaceful cooking channels, with amazing cinematography and really crisp audio, but no speaking - so all the info on the cooking is in the subtitles
and sometimes he will add instructions like “slaughter them”, regarding some radishes, but is it a joke like it is on other cooking channels..?
all his fans are very positive though, and a good chunk of his following are fans of the cottage core aesthetic and have been drawn in by the charm of his garden and on he mostly focuses on vegetarian recipes, which he starts from scratch with his homegrown ingredients
he does do the occasional video focusing on gardening, and on the plants he’s tending, but most of the time he will only show a short clip of himself picking some herbs
and is other channel is a small but straight up horror shorts channel - with blood, static, etc -  that’s had at least one of its videos discussed by a ‘horror commentary’ channel
he’s also currently toying with the idea of expanding this channel into an arg
and no one will ever know that both these channels belong to just one man

pros and cons of being kd’s basketball manager?
pros of being the kiridai manager:
no one bothers you if they know who you are
having smart friends: of course, hanamiya’s unlikely to tutor you, but seto might if you play your cards right
also i like to think that they’re good study influences: group study dates are definitely a thing (though they never go well - because hara gets bored and starts goofing around. if you just go with seto and hanamiya/furuhashi though, it’s a good way of getting work done + having someone to ask for help, if you’re struggling with anything)
playing video games with hara and yamazaki, going places to eat with hara and yamazaki, just generally having good + fun times with hara and yamazaki
in general, hara and zaki are down for anything: hara in that “i know it’s 1am but do you wanna go do something”, zaki in that “it’s 1am why the fuck are you calling me... fine i’ll be there in 3 minutes”
you’d have to be very strategic about how you asked, but there is a possibility of getting free food (bread, homegrown produce, etc) from furuhashi (and, if you’ve Very Good at negotiation, you might just get a free bento sometime)
hanamiya being on the disciplinary committee means you’re unlikely to get into trouble at school
getting to sleep on seto (read as: a free big + comfy pillow) thanks to him not waking up too easily, and not particularly minding either
if you’re also a 2nd year, you get to all graduate together
cons of being the kiridai manager:
you’re unlikely to have many friends outside of the team: partially because they’re dicks, partially because they’d take up a lot of your time - both during practice, and hanging out with you afterwards
in general, lots of time, lots of work just from being a bball club manager (though potentially less work than another school’s club)
they can be unfeeling - they’d injure someone who hurt you, but none of them are great at actually comforting someone (seto’s alright at it, but more often than not, he’s asleep)
people on the basketball circuit just won’t like you, from the association with the kiridai team, and will presume you’re the same type of person
and, even if you do end up making friends with other team’s players, miya (and maybe furu) will definitely mock you for being friends with trash
(you’re left with a situation where it’s either: a) stop being friends with the other team or b) use the friendship to gain tactics information, to then pass on to hanamiya).
having to wake seto: he wakes up pretty easily during matches, but waking him up during practice - especially if he hasn’t been able to nap as much during the day - is a pain
also having to convince him as to why he needs to wake up (50% of the time, you have to go get hanamiya to wake him up instead)
if you date someone outside of the team, they will get interrogated (especially by hanamiya and hara, who do it more for fun than because they care that much); if you date someone in the team, endless jokes will be made during practice. moral of the story: just don’t date.

I wonder about kd team + imayoshi, their thoughts on makeovers & such. It would be interesting knowing their opinions on appearences & how much they like being involved when it comes to their girlfriends fashion and image; do they support a new haircut & do they get along with like a full set of makeup or find it gross? How do they feel about inner beauty and dieting? Vanity in general? I think Hara would enjoy the makeover part the most, but what do you think?
Imayoshi Shouichi
wants a s/o who isn’t a slob, but, at the same time, wouldn’t really be interested in what they do to not be a slob
probably wouldn’t support dieting either, would know about the various health risks associated with it
in particular: if his s/o was to reject a fish he caught, he could just break up with them on the spot
also the type to consider someone being interested in this type of stuff as being someone who’s not particularly intellectual
Hara Kazuya
not personally into fashion/image, but he’d probably get into it if he had a s/o who was
and, like anon said, hara would love a makeover: self-care evenings, his s/o putting make up on his face, them both dying their hair together
so, out of all the boys, he’s definitely the most interested in this sort of thing
but don’t expect him to learn brand names or anything; he’s the type to just learn different makeup brushes as being “big brush”, “slighter smaller brush”, “fluffy brush which gets me yelled at when i touch it”
Furuhashi Kojiro
not a fan of fashion/haircuts/makeup, but knows a lot about the world, thanks to his younger sister
for example, say his s/o dragged him to a fashion show, he’d spend the whole time grumbling under his breath, and then, say his s/o said “i love that dress”, he’d be like “oh you mean the Channel Fall 2020 Mini Skirt with Hem”
anyway, overall, as long as his s/o doesn’t rub the interest in his face, it won’t prove a bother in their relationship
hell, his s/o could probably even ask him to plant some plants which are good for soft skin or summat - he’d be down with that, and it’s a good way for their interests to overlap
Seto Kentaro
as a pretty lazy person, he completely doesn’t understand why his s/o would want to ‘waste their time’, spending hours doing their makeup, or at the hairdressers etc
and, unlike hara, definitely would not be down for his s/o putting makeup on his face, or encouraging him to change his hairstyle
(though i can kinda seem him in a true 90s delinquent pompadour, but that’s a separate headcanon for another day)
wouldn’t break up with someone over the interest though, probably wouldn’t be disgusted either, but wouldn’t be much for them to talk about, so relationship wouldn’t last too long
Yamazaki Hiroshi
he tries his best to support his s/o, but he’s not exactly the best at it
would think they’re wearing makeup because they’re insecure, so could come off as a bit anti-makeup
also he would be the absolute worst person to date, if you were trying to diet, since man just eats anything and all the time
that said, he does have an older sister, so he’s probably used to being fiddled with (made to wear dresses/make up/eetc) from when he was a child
so his s/o definitely could practice different things on him; he’d be a bit grumpy, and probably blushing quite heavily, but he wouldn’t say no to his s/o
Matsumoto Itsuki
the type to not recognise if his s/o cut their hair, is wearing makeup etc
but also wouldn’t have any problems with his s/o being interested fashion/image
would try to support them, but he’s got absolutely no personal interest in it
e.g. if you asked him about his opinion on a dress, he’d probably respond with something like ‘it’s very green. good green.”
Hanamiya Makoto
stinky ‘bad at hygiene’ boy completely doesn’t get the fashion/image world
probably wouldn’t be too supportive of it, just wouldn’t see the point, and would potentially see it as just a bit vain
another one who wouldn’t realise his s/o had changed their hairstyle (man’s got a big-brain, but it’s filled with wanting to break people’s knees, and not little caring details)
his mother would be very supportive though (as she is about everything) so does that count?

Ok but the boys as Harry Potter characters
(more information on the kiridai boys’ houses here)
Hanamiya Makoto
his personality makes him appear to be the slytherin stereotype TM, but that’s only on the surface
his mother was a hufflepuff, and his father was a muggle - but he keeps this on the lowdown, making sure that no one knows (hara knows about his mother’s house, but not about his father)
his best subject is defence against the dark arts (he’s better at the ‘dark arts’ than the ‘defence’ though), though, in general, he’s a top student
does a lot of self-studying, trying to be as powerful a wizard as possible, so that his muggle blood can never be used against him
hence learns how to produce a patronus quite young (using memories with his mother as his happy thoughts): his is a massive snake, python maybe
Furuhashi Kojiro
slytherin
best subject is herbology, but potions is a close second
on the quidditch team, plays as a chaser but you could be easily fooled into thinking he’s a beater from how violently/boldly he plays
keeps a collection of plants you do not want to mess with tucked away in his room; hence why no one apart from his close friends (just the kiridai lot) is allowed in, or would even want to enter
has a jet black cat who he maintains a love-hate relationship with
(read as: it’s love until yet another flower pot gets knocked over)
Seto Kentaro
ravenclaw, but doesn’t often hang out with his fellow ravenclaws - more likely to see him with his slytherin pals
top in all his subjects, except for flying - it’s not that he can’t fly, and he understands all the theory, it’s just that he’s not at all bothered to be quick/agile/etc
picks arithmancy as his elective, and excels in it more than anything else - he finds memorising the different charts very straightforward
not part of a quidditch team, nor remotely interested in joining, but occasionally discusses strategies with hanamiya when the later has no one else to talk to
also has a cat as his pet, and, when seto’s asleep (which is often), it can always be found snoozing on his chest
Hara Kazuya
a slytherin like his brothers
on the quidditch team as a beater, excels most when hanamiya’s captain (he was pretty much given free rein to be as brutal as he wanted) - but he could really be in any position as he’s very talented on a broomstick
despite coming from a wealthy pureblood slytherin family, has nothing against muggles; he’s more likely to be unpleasant to people from other houses, than he’d ever be to a muggle (largely just because he thinks the muggle world looks like fun)
starting hanging out with hanamiya because he wanted to learn more magic just for the hell of it, and figured hanamiya was a good place to start
best subjects are flying and history of magic - but he’d never admit to the later
Yamazaki Hiroshi
gryffindor, but spends more time with slytherins (thanks to being family friends with hara)
a good quidditch player, but not on the team - wouldn’t want to play against hara’s team, and doesn’t really get along with the gryffindor team
picks divination as his elective; hara bullies him over the choice, but he had thought it seemed interesting
his brother and sister are both very talented witch/wizard, whereas yamazaki has to work to maintain good grades
this is how he meets hanamiya - hara had told him he knew a guy who could help zaki achieve good grades, who spent a lot of time practicing
Haizaki Shougo
a muggle-born slytherin - a lone wolf and keeps to himself, so no one knows (though hanamiya will sometimes give him a look, like he knows haizaki’s secret)
not a hard worker, but incredibly talented with magic; surprisingly good at transfiguration, despite the fact he’s never studied for it in his life
also talented at apparition, and does it for a while without a license before caught, and forced to get a license
beater on the slytherin team with hara
gives off the atmosphere that he doesn’t want to be at hogwarts, which he doesn’t - felt far more comfortable in the muggle world, and would prefer to be back there (where his magical abilities would make him vastly superior to everyone else)

Kiridai vs Roughplay + Structure of the Team: An Analysis
Just my observations, interpretations, and just rambles regarding each member’s “relation” with rough play + a little rambling about each member’s role in the team
This was a lot of fun to write and look into! Been rewatching the kiridai match a lot recently. I reference the Kurofes book a lot, since it provides a lot of good insight. Sorry if this is incoherent
Hanamiya
He’s the mastermind that prefers having others carry his plans out and do the dirty work for him.
Him doing rough play himself is a very last resort. He only attempted to hit Kuroko once because he was desperate.
Other players are like his “lives”
On the possibility that a rough play gets caught, the kiridai player may be removed. Hanamiya is needed in the lineup, no matter what, so he cannot risk doing the rough play himself.
By using the other players, the rough play gets done. And if the player gets caught(which has never happened), that player will be removed, but Hanamiya is still there to lead the remaining  team, and utilize the spider web later.
Losing the other players would still suck of course, but rather them than him.
Getting caught by rough play isn’t really a concern for Hanamiya anyway.
I believe how well players can conceal their actions, so getting caught wouldn’t be an issue in the first place, goes into Hanamiya’s decision on picking starters. Apart from Yamazaki.
Gotta think ahead for the possibility anyway, even if it is unlikely
Furuhashi
You can’t see it in his face, but he RELISHES in it.THRIVES in it
Enjoys it the most out of everyone on the team
I believe this is another reason why Hanamiya doesn’t do rough play himself. Yes, Hanamiya would rather have them be taken out of the game than him, should a rough play get caught.
But, he also knows that he can just let Furuhashi and the others do most of it, because he knows they are more than willing to go all out with it.
No arguments made against taking the risk of being removed from the game(cause they know they won’t). No need for Hanamiya to do it himself anyway.
It’s why Furu likes a masochist
Is it perhaps after graduating high school, he no longer has a place where his sadistic tendencies can thrive ? He needs to find another ‘target’?
(though I also think he likes a masochist cause that would mean the person would accept Furu for who he is. They’d love him for him, and wouldn’t try to change him, but that’s for another discussion)
To be honest I’d argue that Furuhashi isn’t really in matches for basketball per se? At least in a scoring sense (so kind of like a Kuroko).
He’s a fine player overall(Fujimaki says that “His ability as a basketball player is high” when describing his stats in Kurofes), but probably not score-focused in matches. Not as much as Hara or Yamazaki.
We actually have never seen him make a shot.(On screen anyway)
He also has the worst special ability of the team...
He will make shots if he can, but that’s not his focus.
I think Furu’s primarily purpose in matches is the rough play
Which can coincide with Yamazaki’s “purpose”, and the other members’ purpose as well.(explained later)
He’s similar to Seto, who’s not really in the game to score points, but as support.
Just as a side note, for statistics: In the Kiridai vs. Seirin 2 match, Out of the 70 points scored, 19 points were shown on screen and they are as follows;
Hanamiya: 9 points (I think the teardrop was a 3-pointer?)
Hara - 6 points
Yamazaki - 2 points
Seto - 2 points
Of course somewhere in the remaining 51 points, Furuhashi certainly scored something, but its a bit odd that we never saw at least one basket from him on screen(anime) or a panel(manga)? I still believe that Furuhashi is mainly in the game for support and not so much scoring, though he still probably scored off screen.
Hara
First I want to point out that in Kurofes, Fujimaki describes Hara’s stats as literally “Master of Roughplay”
Enjoys it to a slightly SLIGHTLY lesser extent, compared to Furuhashi, but he enjoys the heck out of it.
It’s FUN for him. And from the quote above and of course what we saw, he’s very good at it.
Literally says to the Senshinkan player “Of course we enjoy winning like this, are you stupid?”
Enjoys it more so to get under players’ skins and piss them off, which is how i’d differentiate he and Furuhashi
Furuhashi  mainly enjoys physically hurting others, he’s not fazed when people get angry at him about it.
That’s not to say Hara doesn’t enjoy the physical part though
The way he smirked when Kagami was about to punch him, or when Kagami got a charging call.
He just enjoys pissing people off, and rough play certainly does the job.
The rough play is supposed to get the other team angry, so who better to have on the team than someone who loves to do just that.
Starter wise, it seems that he, Furuhashi, and Matsumoto are in charge with the bulk of the rough play (fyi, I don’t have much info to go off of for Matsumoto so I won’t really write about him)
Seto
We’ve only seen him do rough play once
Probably due to timing/story pacing. There to give a reason to switch Kiyoshi out from the match.
Also maybe to not have another Yamazaki, aka someone who seems to not do rough play
Of course not against it at all, but from what we see, his usage is more along the lines of Hanamiya. Does it when he “has” to.
He doesn’t try to find every opportunity to use rough play
Seto is really just  there to help with the spider web so his role isn’t focused on rough play, compared to Furuhashi and Hara.
Going back to what I said about not risking taking Hanamiya out of the match due to rough play, the same can be said for Seto
Both are literally needed for the spider web to work, so Seto potentially being removed from the match must be avoided(again, they’re all good enough at rough play that this is unlikely anyway, but still)
So Seto is only brought in right when it is about to be used(from what we’ve seen)
Nonetheless, he’ll happily make a blow should the situation arise.
Yamazaki
An interesting one to look at
I agree that he is overall an angel(in other aspects) but he clearly isn’t ENTIRELY against or is above the rough play.
He doesn’t really fall into either extreme (completely against or for roughplay).
I believe he at least ATTEMPTED at it, at first, to perhaps match the team’s play-style (he felt that he had to/hanamiya made it mandatory during practice, etc)
He’s apparently not good at “tricks” or “schemes”, strategic rough play is along those lines.
A reason why he’s not good at roughplay could be because he is reluctant, because he does indeed have some conscience left. With roughplay, you cannot hesitate.
Another reason could be he is simply not good at it, regardless of good conscience (could have poor timing, he’s not discrete enough, etc)
Either way, he’ll get caught if he tries, hanamiya most likely noticed this during practice
His skills are good enough to still have him in the starter lineup
This goes with what I said about “Furu’s purpose” in matches
Furu is mostly there for his “rough play skills” and not so much basketball
Yamazaki is there for his basketball skills and not at all for rough play
He’s not going to argue against it, especially when it favors the team’s performance.
This is an anime only thing, so take it with a grain of salt, his face change when Hanamiya said that Kiyoshi needs only one more hit before he’s gone:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fujimaki did indeed say that he was most “decent” person of the team, and that he is “ The only conscience among the “bad boy” gang “(from Kurofes) and that is true.
But also, the bar is so low for Kirisaki Daiichi so…..
I believe that Yamazaki is against rough play in terms of doing it himself, but he’ll turn a blind eye when the others do it.
Basically, Yamazaki is in a “if you don’t call it out, then you are part of the problem” type of situation.
He may have a “It’s okay since I don’t do the rough play myself” kind of mentality
And Yamazaki might have no intention of calling it out
It may be because he genuinely enjoys basketball and actually wants to win, even if dirty tactics are used
All in all, Yamazaki could be technically against the rough play, and probably would prefer not having it, in an ideal world. If he was on a different team.
But the fact is he is part of Kirisaki Daiichi, and he certainly won’t argue against Hanamiya.
And if the team does well because the rough play, then he’ll do well, so there’s no arguing with that either.
We can look more closely at what each member contributes to the team. We know that they don’t actually play their assigned basketball positions(aside from Yamazaki?) but they still play “a position”:
Hanamiya
There for his leadership, his basketball skills as an uncrowned king, for his intelligence, and rough play if necessary
Rough play by Hanamiya himself is a last resort
Seto
His intelligence for the spider web, and rough play if necessary
Mainly in the second half of the match
He’s not really there so much for basketball per se (so like Furuhashi)
Part of why he isn’t a starter
So overall a support player
Hara
An even mix of rough play and basketball
Clearly good at both since he contributed a good amount of shots
And did his fair share of rough play
Furuhashi
Mostly, if not purely for his rough play
Again, we have never seen Furuhashi make a shot
We’ve only seen him attempt 1 shot, which he missed
We only saw Yamazaki score 2 points, but he attempted more shots than Furu
Similar to Seto, not really score focused; an overall support player
In kurofes, Fujimaki describes Furu’s stats as “High ability that even Hanamiya acknowledges”
I like to think it refers to both basketball and roughplay. Especially since Fujimaki describes Hara’s skills as such.
Tbh, if it weren’t Fujimaki specifically saying that Furu’s basketball abilities are high, I would have assumed it was just the rough play.
I wish we could have seen his basketball skills more during the match, instead of just being a fact in a book...
Yamazaki
Purely for his basketball skills
We’ve never seen him participate in rough play
Clearly skilled enough that Hanamiya has him as a starter despite the lack of rough play
In fact, from the Kurofes book, Fujimaki describes Yamazaki as “Kirisaki Daiichi’s SG who holds his own against powerhouse schools, with ability that is acknowledged by “Uncrowned General” Hanamiya.”
While going through this, the realization that Furuhashi and Yamazaki play pretty much opposite roles in matches was really interesting.
They’re even both described as having abilities that Hanamiya acknowledges.
And it’s interesting to see that Hara is in the middle and pretty much an all-rounder. I’d argue his intelligence could play a part, judging by the fact that he came up with a decent theory for the Vanishing Drive (albeit incorrect, but it was on the right track.) And also how good he is at rough play (even though he wasn’t able to step on Kagami’s foot, with quick thinking, Hara “screened” him out and still got a basket. That takes some smarts.)
