somehow needed to repost this its 4:20 in the morning and I must paint this the easel calls, the sketchbook is enticing, this must be illustrated somehow I can't explain it but perhaps my pen can
Been having lots of thoughts about Amber joseph and the drugged candy 🙏🙏
I LOOOOOOVE DRUGS LETS GO
aphrodisiac time !!! or even just something to make you more easy and pliable for him to drag you off and seduce ahhh so many good options, like ecstasy which will send your emotions spiraling directly into his waiting hands, or even cocaine so you two can fuck for hours. you could even shoot for something that has a hallucinogenic effect ! seeing things that take the sexual aspect to a whole other level whew
imagine mumbling to him in the middle of sex that you think maybe you're sick or losing your mind and he just strokes your hair and coaxes another piece of candy into your mouth while telling you that nothing is wrong at all and that surely you must be confused

orpheus!peeta who has to stop himself from reaching back to grab your hand to help you climb up the path
orpheus!peeta who (tries to) convince himself that those are your footsteps behind you, not an echo of his own
orpheus!peeta who quietly whispers "its not a trick, she's behind me, its real"
orpheus!peeta who keeps his gaze trained on the walls beside him to see if he can catch a glimpse of your shadow
orpheus!peeta who starts worrying he's alone, its not you, its some cruel trick, its not real
orpheus!peeta who just has to look back because he needs to make sure you're real, not some figment of his imagination
"its you." "its me."
orpheus!peeta who looks relieved until he realizes what he's done.
orpheus!peeta who tries to reach for you, taking the tiniest step forward and hoping you would take his hand
orpheus!peeta who stares at the spot where you stood, only moments ago, realizing it was all real, and he just ruined it.
────────
orpheus!finnick who walks the path quickly, determined to get to the top before he can even think to look back
oprheus!finnick who grits his teeth when it gets too quiet, hoping you're holding up okay as you follow him
orpheus!finnick who starts to doubt his resolve when he has to actively stop himself from looking back
orpheus!finnick who starts to doubt himself when he realizes it could all easily be a trick — who would be a fool to let you go? why wouldnt hades just send him up thinking you were following, instead of actually sending you with him?
orpheus!finnick who only looked back because he thought he heard you trip, and instinctively went to help you up
orpheus!finnick who immediately lunges towards you, trying to grab you before you slip through his fingers
"finnick..." "honey..."
orpheus!finnick who remembers how he promised to keep you safe from the storm, and yet failed
orpheus!finnick who failed you, once again

my thoughts on the australian hadestown cast!
n.b. these are MY thoughts on how i felt and percieved the australian cast's takes on characters that i've seen many versions of. personally, i felt this show presented similtaneously very fresh and very accurate versions of these beautiful characters <3 in this post, i focused more on the differences rather than the similarities to previous performances.
noah mullins' orpheus is very awkward but in such a sweet way. he's clearly autistic-coded - he fully jumped when he turned around during 'road to hell' to 'see' the audience (+ his wave is so sweetly shy rather than over-earnest) and at one point during 'wait for me (reprise)' he started stimming out of stress & overstimulation. he has less of the socially-inept earnestness than maybe reeve carney's oprheus had (more of a socially-inept awkwardness), but it came out properly in 'come home with me' towards eurydice - it seems like he's terrified of socialising with everyone except her. noah is incredibly lanky, and so their orpheus very much has the vibe of his legs and arms being so long that he never quite learned how to use them properly, which suits his orpheus perfectly. their 'is it true' is powerful not because of an extreme emotional performance (see donal finn's) but because he seemed comfortable and in control for the first time. his neurodivergency also feels a lot more pronounced during 'doubt comes in' - the loss of confidence and increased anxiety feels very natural for his orpheus, as devestating as it is. his awkwardness being said, he is very physically comfortable with eurydice - they and abigail were so adorable during 'way down hadestown', the two of them feel like teenagers who have just gotten into their first relationship. i've heard noah talk about how much they wanted to work with abi, and i'm so glad they got that chance!
abigail adriano's eurydice is a tough little thing. abigail is quite small in stature, especially next to noah, and so she seems to be twice as thick-skinned and aggressive during the opening couple of songs to make up for it. at the beginning she is flighty and quick with the way she runs away from the fates, hades & even orpheus at the beginning of their relationship, super determined to protect herself, but she's got a real baby face which makes you just ache for her and the pain she's clearly already experienced. it also means that when eurydice gets more comfortable during the summer (during 'way down' and 'all i've ever known'), this sweetness just blooms out of her. her and noah have incredible chemistry, and she just turns into a little schoolgirl with a first crush during 'way down'. her 'wait for me (reprise)' is INCREDIBLE, such a powerful voice out of this small girl, and her 'flowers' is SO emotional. also just before the turn, she is like swinging along the set, as if she has so much trust in orpheus and is so excited to leave hadestown and spend the rest of her life with him, which just makes the turn 100x more painful.
christine anu is just the perfect choice for an australian hermes. she has a brilliant Aboriginal aunty vibe about her (we love seeing First Nations people in australian theatre!) - especially as some of the more spoken lines, she really leans into the aussie vowels (e.g. 'we're gonna sing it again' and 'don't come on too strong'). she's got an incredible voice & stage presence, and even though the way she holds herself onstage felt at times as if she perhaps has less musical theatre experience and more experience performing as a singer in her own right (i haven't looked at her resume), that seems to work pefectly for the narrator character, who straddles the fourth wall the entire show. it really has the vibe of her telling all of us a story around the campfire, and she really milked the beginning of 'road to hell (reprise)' for all it's worth. this hermes seems to LOVE telling this story, as painful it is - she's joyful & hopeful in her telling, it's much less of a tortured narrator and much more of a 'this is an important story to tell and it's a story of HOPE despite tragedy' type of vibe. her and elenoa's persephone are girl besties, and she has a real aunty type of love & care (like the aunty who you're not related to, but has always been there) for all the workers + orphy & eury (as noah & abi call them). she honestly feels like the oldest and most mature presence on the stage - older than hades & persephone (read on for my thoughts on a slightly younger-feeling seph & hades), and so able to tell this story from a more mature & knowledgeable position.
elenoa rokobaro's persephone is so much fun. she plays persephone a lot drunker (during 'our lady' and the other underworld scenes) than i'd seen before, which made her alcoholism a lot more obvious and powerful, especially the 'i've had enough' line in 'how long'. she feels a lot younger than amber gray's persephone, which i think makes her story a lot more powerful - almost like a younger sister to christine's hermes at times, and similarly, i felt more of a big sister vibe to eurydice rather than the aunty vibe which i get from amber gray's persephone. i think her overt drunkeness represents her take on the character well - she's a lot looser with her movements, less of the awkward jerkiness of amber's persephone and more of a free, all-encompassing movement (in my opinion). i loved it - her 'our lady' is so much fun, but also a lot more confronting (due to how clear her alcohol-induced numbness is covering up a pain). her and adrian seem almost playful during 'epic III - they danced', which i think contributed to the fun, younger vibe.
adrian tamburini's hades has a similarly younger vibe to him - almost sleazy but not quite (and by younger, i mean compared to patrick page, not to the rest of the characters - him and persephone are still clearly older than orpheus & eurydice). he gave real business ceo vibes at times. this hades really struck me with that insecurity leading to immaturity that every hades textually has, but the immaturity of his behaviour really comes out in adrian's choices. he seems really petty in the way he treats the workers & persephone while he's upset about her being away from him. also, his 'hey little songbird' is much more melodic than patrick page's, which is super powerful when you're used to the low growl, and is very alluring in a different way - a much more similar allure to orpheus'. his 'why we build the wall' and 'chant (reprise)' were SO powerful, though, a real power and anger present in that low voice. they were also slightly more explicit about the subtle sexual connotations of 'he closed the door behind' in 'why we build the wall' and 'the girl means nothing to me' in 'how long' which just made you the right amount of uneasy. i think overall, the younger vibe that adrian and elenoa both have leads to a real pettiness in their anger at each other and a real playfulness in their reunion (e.g. when he grows the flower in 'epic III'). they don't so much have that 'ancient' vibe that patrick & amber had, but i think it upholds the insecurity & immaturity in their actions rather than undermines it (which it absolutely could have if done wrong). i feel like instead of it saying 'here's this ancient couple who are failing at communicating and caring for each other in the way they should, an ancient couple who are still insecure and immature', they are an incredibly powerful couple who are still figuring out how to love each other, despite the length of their relationship and their ultimate power over the workers & the seasons.
conclusion: GO SEE THIS CAST. like i said at the top, these performances felt both new, as well as true to the text and to the original concepts for these characters. they didn't make a single choice that i felt undermined the characters or any other interpretation of them, and they all perfectly enhanced the themes & narrative of the story. by comparing this cast to the original broadway or to the west end casts, i feel like i just understand the chraracters and the text even more then i already did, bringing out new nuances or new ways of representing the same experiences within the same story. i'm going to see it again in april, so if i see these guys again (i would also love to see any of the swing's takes on the roles) then i might add to the post <3

I thought my feelings were settling, then I had the horrible, terrible idea of watching the trailer for part 2, and Dream's whispered "Tell me what is to come" got the floodgates open again.
Honestly, I can recognize Dream is a flawed character, but to me, Oprheus storyline-wise, it seems like he is being punished for the choices of others.
At this point, I just want to give him two blankets, a Hob, and tell him that everything is going to be okay.

🕯°°••°°••°°••°°••°°•🤎•°°••°°••°°••°°••°°🕯
The dimly lit room was filled not only with warmth, but with love. The love you held so deeply in every crevice of your heart, just for him. Your heart and soul were his entirely, there was no power that could change that. You loved him so fully, like you had never loved anyone before. No one could could compare to him, let only the love he had for you, too.
Every moment with him felt like a waltz, a graceful dance through the warmly illuminated walls of the castle that were your bound hearts. You were almost floating, his grip on you never wavering, and neither was yours. How two humans could hold each other so tightly, yet so incredibly lovingly at the same time was a mystery to you- until you met him. He opened doors you didn't know existed, holding the key in his hands.
He made your chest feel tight with the amount of affection and adoration you harbored in your heart. The gentleness he had about him, so soft it made you melt like honey, was only for you. You were the only one to see it, to hear it. To feel it. Leon was a rough man- tattered around the edges, cold and stoic, but he was nothing but warming and smooth around you. Like all of his doubts, flaws, whatever it was, just vanished the second you were in his vicinity.
There was no feeling greater than having him hold you, your head against his chest listening to his heartbeat, while you just lay there in silence. But it was never really silent. Your love was beyond words, no matter how quiet it was, words of praise and affection always lingered. His hand in yours never failed to remind you of your connected souls.
Deeply intertwined, roots tightly woven around each other like an ancient tree that would stand forever more and never falter. You lifted each other up, two forces that couldn't exist without one another. And you never, ever had to. He'd always be with you and you with him, no matter what might come or what challenges you'll face. You were his, and he was yours.
You recalled your years together, a smile sitting on your cheeks. It was your 5 year anniversary as a married couple. Marrying him was one of the best opportunities you'd ever gotten, and you would do it again in a heartbeat. It was a decision you would never second guess, how could you, when you were so lucky? You could still see it- like it had only happened yesterday.
The nervous look in his eyes, the way he fiddled with his hands. The soft and gentle, sometimes awkward, rookie you fell in love with still lingered deep within him, even if he'd never admit it. But once you made your way down the aisle, all his worries were gone. He couldn't contain the tears that cascaded down his face as the reality finally caught up to him. He would marry you. He would be your husband, your best friend, and whatever else you needed him to be.
The truth was, Leon couldn't wait to feel the coolness of your wedding ring against his stubbly cheek or the warmth of you pressed against him in the early morning hours. He couldn't wait to come home to you, his wife. God, that word made him all warm and fuzzy inside. He had actually beaten the odds and got his happy ending. You were his happy ending, and he would be grateful for you until the fates decided his time was up.
And even then, he'd play the role of Oprheus to get you, his muse, his Eurydice, back from the depths of the Underworld. He'd play the fool if he had to, all for you. Always for you.
You stood in the kitchen, the heat of the oven and stove making small droplets of sweat roll down your skin. The dinner that was boiling on the stove enveloped the room in aromatics and savory smells. It was a favorite of Leon's, a little surprise you were preparing. You used to go to fancy restaurants and other over the top anniversary activities, but ultimately this is was where you felt the most comfortable.
A nice candle lit meal in your shared home was more than enough to satisfy you heart. So you stood here, one hand on your hip, the other stirring the pot with a wooden spoon. You were humming a tune- whatever was on the radio at the moment. Still in your comfy clothes, you turned off the heat to let the dinner simmer. You'd planned to dress up a little- just because you were at home didn't mean you couldn't doll yourself up a bit.
You made your way to your shared bedroom, laying out the dress you'd picked and some jewelry. Now that you think of it, you hadn't seen Leon in a suit in a while. He always looked so good, distinguished, put together. It made a small frown creep onto your face. You rummaged through his side of the closet, seeing whether he still had that one suit that you loved.
Sadly, it was nowhere to be found. You figured he probably sold it or gave it to a friend. He never really wore it, after all. You could always buy him a new one, maybe as a christmas gift. There were definitely occasions where a well tailored suit would come in handy, and maybe you could convince him to wear it just a little more often, just for you. He'd do just about anything you asked, which you sometimes used to your advantage.
You'd give this a little more thought another day, for right now there more important things to worry about. Like would he be home in time, or would you have to spend your wedding anniversary alone? Would be hurt, and if so, how badly? You shook those thoughts away. He was careful. He always was, and you assumed he took extra caution for today. He would always come back to you.
You began getting dressed, he would be home soon, you looked at yourself in the mirror and smiled. God, 5 years. What a number. It felt like you've barely been married for more than a week, still in the honeymoon phase, and at the same time you could've sworn you've been together for a lifetime. Time does fly when you're happy. Truly happy.
You heard the jingling of keys and the click of the doorknob turning. Followed by a rustle of various unidentifiable items and heavy steps on the floor. "Honey? I'm home!" rang out his beautiful voice. It made your heart beat higher, just how domestic that phrase was. You walked towards the noise, checking on the food on your way.
You were about to say something, but when you laid eyes on him, all words left you. He stood there, in the suit you had looked for earlier, hair slightly slicked back, with a pretty tie around his neck. "I see we both had the same idea," he smiled, walking over to you and wrapping your still stunned form in a hug. "Happy 5 years, baby." Leon whispered in your ear, then placing a sweet kiss on your neck.
The stubble on his face made a shiver run up your spine when it touched your skin. "Happy anniversary, sweetheart." You replied, gently caressing his cheek. Leon captured your lips in a passionate kiss, pulling you closer by your waist while your hand was on his cheek and your other arm draped around his neck.
"God, you're gorgeous, look at you," he mumbled after pulling away, his eyes looking over you and admiring what he saw in front of him, lips lightly stained by your lipstick. You chuckled lovingly. "Thank you, love. You look so handsome in that suit. When did you have time to change?" You asked, your hand resting on his chest and slightly toying with the lapel of his jacket.
He was at work today, which usually got pretty bloody and grimey, yet he was here looking like a Hollywood star. Clean and smelling of that irresistibly cologne of his. "Well, showers do exist. Not to mention that a quick stop at a motel to get ready for my special lady is 100% worth the ass kicking I'll get tomorrow." He explained with a grin.
"You left early? Leon-" he stopped what was about to be a worried lecture with a finger to your lips. "I won't hear it, not today. Today s'just about you and me, baby." He smiled softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead. You returned an equally soft smile. "You're right, Honey. Dinner's ready,"
"You made dinner too? Here I was, thinking this was my anniversary present," he smirked, looking you over. Playfully rolling your eyes, you plated everything, Leon closely watching from over your shoulder. You'd set the table earlier today, nothing too extravagant, just a simple tablecloth, the fine silverware, and some candles.
"That smells and looks amazing, baby." He muttered, his arms wrapped around your waist. "S'your favorite," you smiled, awkwardly moving around in his arms to get everything ready. "You're perfect." He mumbled against your shoulder, placing soft kisses on your exposed skin. Your cheeks flushed and your heart skipped a beat. Even after all those years together, his compliments still made your heart soar.
You let out a breathy chuckle. "I don't know about perfect-" you were quickly interrupted by Leon gently turning your head and pressing a kiss to your lips. "But I know. You're perfect, end of discussion." He smirked. "Alright, alright, I'll take your word for it." You giggled, continuing with your task. He hummed in satisfaction, letting his lips graze over your hair.
He let go of you at some point, though reluctantly, he seated himself at the dining table as you served dinner. You ate and chatted, laughing and enjoying yourselves. The atmosphere that you two created drenched the room in love and affection, and a heartfelt symphony of your giggles.
"That was delicious, sweetheart," Leon sighed, wiping his mouth with a napkin. "Good. I spent all day on that damned chocolate souffle!"
He laughed, taking your hand in his. "It was worth it, but..," he trailed off, making you raise an eyebrow,"I had a different dessert in mind." He grinned, stroking your knuckles. "Oh, don't worry. I'm sure your lovely wife would agree to that if you asked nicely," you smiled sweetly. He chuckled and leaned back in his chair, letting go of your hand. "I'll keep that in mind." He said in a low tone, a certain look in his eyes.
The radio was playing in the background, it was set on an oldie channel that you liked listening to while cooking. The soft tunes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and The Mills Brothers were echoing through the room, the candles in the middle of the table flickering. "I should get started on the dishes," you said softly, getting up from your seat. Leon immediately leaned forward, quickly grabbing your forearm across the table to stop you.
"No, no, no, sweetheart, sit back down." He ordered gently, pulling you back into your chair. "Honey, the kitchen is a mess-"
"I don't care. It's our anniversary. Relax for once, baby," he asked of you, a pleading look in his eyes, the grip he had on your arm softening. A guilty feeling washed over you. You had the habit of running around like a headless chicken sometimes, trying to get as much done as possible.
"M'sorry. I guess I just want everything to be... perfect." You muttered, avoiding his gaze. His brows pulled together, in worry or out of empathy, you didn't know. "It's more than perfect, Darling. Please just enjoy today. Enjoy us. It's been five years since I watched you walk down the aisle, can you believe that?" He chuckled softly, his thumb stroking over your skin. He couldn't even believe it. How did he get so lucky? It was a mystery to him, but god, he was so incredibly grateful.
He never thought he'd ever have this. And somedays, he was anxious, just waiting for everything to vanish, slipping from his grasp. Nothing brings him more comfort on those days than to hold you and remind himself that you're here, with him because you chose to, and that you would never leave. "God, I know. What a perfect day that was, huh?" You sighed, the corners of your mouth turning upwards. There was shimmer in his eyes, a light of pure joy, just like on that very day. Some things never change.
Leon hummed softly in response knowing that no words would do justice to how he felt back then. You sat in the comfortable silence for a while, occasionally catching each others' gaze, which was then met with a loving smile while your fingertips brushed as your hands rested on the table. The radio was still playing softly in the kitchen, the gentle tunes filling the room perfectly.
You perked up, your brows raising once you heard the fluttering melody of one of you favorites; Everybody loves somebody. In turn, Leon's brows scrunched together in confusion. You got up with a smile on your face, if his face would allow it, his brows would furrow even further as you did so silently. "Honey, what are you-" you interrupted him by pulling him out of his chair wordlessly and dragging him to the middle of your livingroom where your hands settled on his chest.
His expression softened once he realized what was happening. You wanted to dance with him. His heart swelled, to have you wanting to do something so intimate and romantic with him. It was a bit silly since you've been married for so long but you never failed to touch his heart. His hands found your waist and gently pulled you closer to him, but you were never close enough for his taste.
You started swaying to the rhythm, the hands that were previously on his chest now resting near the back of his shoulders. Leon matched your rythym, holding you tightly while moving the both of you to the melody. He looked so good. The dim light of the room hitting his features so perfectly. They way he looked at you so adoringly made your cheeks flush.
"You know, I listened to this song on my 17th birthday, wondering when my sometime and where my someplace would be...," you began softly, the gentle smile on his lips prompting you to keep going," and, well, my sometime is now. My someplace is right here, with you, in your arms. Words cannot describe how much I love you. You make my heart sing, Leon." You smiled, placing a hand on his cheek.
His eyes widened slightly and you could feel him stiffen at your confession, but he never stopped swaying you. The way his name fell from your lips in such a truly loving way made his heart beat out of his chest. A sheen of tears glistened in his baby blues, his brows pulled together and you could feel him lean into your touch.
"I love you. God, I love you so much." He sighed, a slight tremble in his usually so confident tone as he placed his forehead against yours. "I love you more." You whispered, your warm breath fanning over his lips. Your nose brushed against his before you pressed your lips to his in a searing kiss. Your lips set his heart aflame, just like they'd done so many times before.
Although searing, the kiss didn't lack passion. Leon couldn't help but groan against your lips, wrapping his arms fully around you and holding you close. You made him feel so loved, like he never had. God, if he could carve out his lovesick heart and serve it to you on a silver platter, he would. A broken sigh escaped him as he metled into you. The sound rumbled in his throat, sending vibrations through your skin.
You only pulled away when you felt a small, wet drop met your hand. You were breathless, the kiss took all the air from your lungs. Looking up at him, you saw something incredibly precious. He was crying. He loved you so much and was completely overwhelmed by your affection that he was crying. You gently wiped the tear with your thumb before caressing his stubbly cheek. "Don't cry, my love." You cooed, making him let out broken cries.
"Shhh.. I'll kiss all your tears away, I promise you that." You whispered with a small smile, pressing gentle kisses on his cheeks. You could taste the saltiness of his tears on your tongue. "I'll love you forever." He mumbled, brushing a piece of hair out of your face, a small smile tugging at his lips. "So will I." Your head fell forward against his chest, his head resting on top of yours. You closed your eyes, sighing contently. As you listened to his steady heartbeat, one thing became crystal clear to you. You've never been so sure about something.
Now was your sometime, this was your someplace and he was your someone.
This was where you belonged.

whats your favorite super niche detail of the series (that may not even be canon anymore) no one talks about? there's a lot of niche details that slip through the cracks so its fun to see what people gravitate too
In terms of continuity goofs: I am obsessed with the fact is a plot point Jay, Holly, and Lion were born in winter AND YET in The Sight they are apprenticed in winter. So either Firestar is training newborns or he didn't apprentice them until they were grown adults. I have had for ages the idea to write a crack fic in which the second one happens because Firestar was just so furious about the fox cubs incident he delayed them 6 whole months as punishment.
In terms of something more serious: I think I'm pretty much the only one who has explicitly pointed out how JayPoppy has Oprheus and Eurydice parallels. Like hello????? Aren't those two like some of Tumblr's top Greek mythology darling. There's a musical about them I've been meaning to watch but I haven't gotten around to finding a bootleg of. Where are the artist making 1,488,736,852 MAPs with songs from there?

What is your take on Nortpheus... An analysis, a deeeeepp one, I mostly know about Norton since he's ma' lady, but hearing about both and then both together would be very very nice I'm really interested to hear what you have to say, whatever, silly, serious, headcanon, other skins, all all ALL GIVE . ME. ALL . ..
Nortpheus funny. That's it.
OKAY I'M KIDDING, it's obviously deeper than that but I have this issue where I can feel the vibes of something but can't really explain it well. I'm not the most articulate guy you'll ever meet... Anyway, it is definitely a fun little dynamic, and to explain how I see it I'll first have to tell you the things that made me see it the way I do, talk about them separately, and then tell you what their dynamic feels like to me.
This might get a little long!!!
First, some small things about them that contribute to the Nortpheus I see:
Norton is familiar with Orpheus' work, and enjoys it. I know I read this somewhere, please god somebody tell me where this is from, I need to cite my sources!!!
Orpheus has written an entire novel about Norton and the mining incident ("The Thirteenth Gift... Inspired by Norton Campbell and the Golden Cave disaster" as stated on the wiki on the "Oprheus' Novels" page, and then referenced again on the "Orfeo's Game/Side Chapter 1" page, which says "It tells the story of a miner who relied on schemes and ambition to become a mining tycoon until he met an untimely death". Keep in mind, the second quote is from the universe where Norton is the Mining Director, and Orpheus is Orfeo, so the novel in the original universe likely tells a different story.) I know Norton is not the only one Orpheus' work has been inspired by, it's just a fact I think about when I have Nortpheus thoughts.
The Mining Director and Orfeo got along quite well! While Norton from the original universe is different from the Mining Director (a lot more gloomy, considering his position miles away from the wealth he seeks), this doesn't mean Norton and Orpheus' relationship would be too far off if put in the right position. They likely had an amicable relationship before their game (where Norton was killed by Orpheus who was under the influence of hallucinatory drugs).

Norton thoughts:
Norton feels very simple to me, I think I understand him well. Honestly, most of the way I imagine his cadence and the types of things he would say comes from the 2023 Valentine's event, not Ashes of Memory. I know we get voice lines and animation and everything, but his lines from the Valentine's event stuck with me more. He said so many things, and they were all so important to his character.
I think Norton is a chronic debby downer, just a damn complainer. I don't think he even realizes how miserable he is, because (in the Valentine's event) he went from insulting your shop to saying "yes, please" all politely when asking for a piece of bread. I don't think he's the type to be a little oblivious to how terrible he can be, or just be so used to being terrible that it doesn't matter much to him - a little uncaring. A lot of his quotes on the wiki (and twitter character replies) are things that reflect how confused he'd be to be chosen by someone, possibly because he's aware of how unlikable he is. I keep that in mind during lots of my Nortpheus thoughts.
I also think he's pretty umm idk how to explain this, kind of thin. He's whipped cream type light. Like, there isn't much to say, and his character isn't as confusing or shrouded in mystery as Orpheus'. Norton has lived like a rat his whole life. He's worked hard and still been wronged by others, and he's got a lot of built up resentment because of that. His ideal life is that of a rich man. That's it. What he wants is simple, and his reasoning for wanting it is undeniably simple as well.
And also, I think his character has transformed to be more gruff over the years. So my view of Norton in the Valentine's event, and now in Ashes of Memory, is different. Perhaps because the Valentine's event is more lighthearted, and detached from the main story. I can see why he'd be more gloomy in the main story.
Anyway, Norton is the type to say things so cynical out of nowhere that it makes your head spin, and in the same breath say something so light and breezy that you're like damn where did the darkness go. I liked that he mentioned he didn't want to die the same way his father did in the Valentine's event, and I also recall one of his Valentines quotes being, "I spent money on stamps just for you! Fine, you've been treating me well. Happy Valentine's Day." This says a couple things to me. In the event, he called the holiday wretched, but when he had a person to be sharing it with he suddenly didn't seem to mind participating very much. All it really seems to take for him is a bit of goodwill.
Orpheus thoughts:
I think I know less about Orpheus so this section is probably more speculative and... lost 😭
Orpheus is kind of a sweetheart in my opinion. I think maybe the deep sorrow he expressed in COA8 after he watched Alice die stuck with me. He always makes such sad expressions, and it makes me feel like he's quite soft inside. I don't think he's the type to outright argue back and forth, but rather bleed a bit of passive aggression into his statements. I think his words would cut deep, but I think he's so good at that because he himself is just one gaping wound.
His whole thing is escapism. He mentions how, when he writes, he sometimes is "unable to differentiate if [he] is in reality or one of the stories [he is] working on" (Valentine's Day 2023 Card). It seems he often disconnects from the real world while writing, and this may even be why he writes in the first place, to get away. He says "Words are like parachutes - they help you when you're falling", in his 2025 Deduction Star quotes. Maybe he feels like he's perpetually falling, and writing is what helps him land safely.
In many of his quotes, he talks about the difference between stories and reality, and much of it is the fact that you can transform or erase the sorrow in a fictional world, but it's impossible to do so in real life. Or at least, that's how he sees things. This actually tells you so much about how he views his own life. For him to say that true nightmares are inescapable, that must be how he feels about his situation. No matter how much inspiration he gathers, no matter how many stories he writes, no matter how well his novels do, he can't rewrite his own sorrow into joy. He's searching for something he already feels like he cannot possibly find.
But he still seems to be a romantic, and his quotes sometimes still feel so hopeful. Love still means something to him, and to be so caught up in the idea of nightmares, dreams must mean something to him as well. Quotes like "This is the perfect day to write about love, and may your life be full of romantic and touching love" (Valentine's Day 2023 Card) make you feel a kind of warmth from him, so much like the love he displays for Alice in so many different drawings and videos. He is a very loving person, and combine that with being a writer? Oh maaan he's gotta have the most sparkly, rose-tinted hopes and dreams haha.
I feel like that's what he's like at his core, but this sense of helplessness that lingers over him kind of stamps that down. I feel like a totally happy Orpheus would be bright, warm, and very caring. While he does seem like the type to act all put together, I don't think any part of his façade would be harsh, or extremely cold just under normal circumstances. And if he were to get very angry with someone, or hate their guts, his first reaction would likely be to give them that cold and refined dislike, but as he can be subject to bursts of emotion, he might become more expressive. He's still not the yelling shouting kind of guy, though.
And Orpheus' life is just the craziest drug trip known to man so that makes it hard to have a definitive opinion on nortpheus without concrete info.
I also find this quote pretty interesting, "Writers can save the characters they penned from danger, but they can't relieve themselves of their own" (Deduction Star 2023 Quote). He has multiple quotes where he mentions saving characters in stories or changing endings, and it makes me think about how he writes about disasters and stuff. He doesn't seem to write stories with particularly happy endings, though, so perhaps the writing he does in his free time takes a different tone? I'm just not sure! I love him a lot though ahaha.
Okay let me stop with the Orpheus section now or I never will.
SO! How would these characters work together?
Well, they're both kind of a mess, right? Norton definitely isn't Señor Save A Hoe, but we already know Orpheus wrote a novel inspired by the "accident" Norton was involved in, which proves he is at least a little interested in him and his situation. He might even find solace in immersing himself in Norton's story and suffering rather than his own. Along the way, I do believe they'd grow quite close in a distant, tentative way. They'd likely spend time together, but stay away from all of the deeper, more intimate milestones like sharing their worries, or talking in depth about their pasts. Norton isn't much of a talking guy anyway ("You like me? Actions speak louder than words" (Nymph Awards 2022).
I guess maybe in time they'd have that kind of moment, though, where they kind of let things slip out. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers, and I truly feel there'd be something comfortable between them. They'd be drinking buddies!!! If they had the chance, maybe they'd become more.
They're both quite lonely, even if Norton is much farther from accepting that feeling. I think Orpheus kind of acknowledges and dwells in his negative emotions, all of them, meanwhile Norton stews in emotions like rage while denying emotions like fear and loneliness. It would take a while, but I think Orpheus could manage to slowly tiptoe his way past Norton's defenses. Definitely wouldn't break them down, but he'd be spared the suspicion.
Norton would probably be reluctant and disbelieving at first in typical Norton fashion, but I think he might be easy to cave when it comes to romance.
You asked for all that I have to say about them, but to be truthful it's all just scattered feelings. I just feel that they'd make a good pair ahaha.
Umm skin pairings: Mr. Mole + High Roller, Bird of Prey + Sherlock Holmes, someone on tiktok opened my eyes to Jar Head + Evil Thoughts, Orphan of Goetia + Hollow, and, obviously, Mining Director + Orfeo.
I also like to imagine Folk Writer and Sparrow being the most platonic of friends, as Sparrow is a child. I think there could be a very cute friendship dynamic there, and I even started a little mini comic about that but I didn't finish it.
Speaking of skins, I want to add a little commentary on what their skins say about them. As their skins are literally just Them in different universes, I still consider them integral to piecing their characters together.
I think I tend to zero in on Orpheus' skin "Homesick". There's just this ever-present ache in Orpheus, and while it can't just be cured (he'll always mourn the life, the sister, he lost), it can be eased. I wouldn't call Norton a distraction necessarily, but more of a balm to soothe a stinging burn. You know what I mean? Everyone needs a little company, and at the very least, Norton could provide that for Orpheus.
For Norton, I mostly think about Ronald of Ness and his new skin, Dazzling Lone Wolf. I think it's interesting that he becomes such a famous public figure in this world, performing for everyone around to see. He's always dramatic in every universe, but he really puts his drama to use in this one. I just think it's still such a lonely life for him. He seems to enjoy praise ("Come on, drown in applause. I'll accept your encouragement and blessings completely and enjoy the honor of standing here!" (Nymph Awards 2024 Winner quote), but the type you get when you're famous is so empty. He says "Happiness may not come from money, but sorrow usually does" (Deduction Star 2021 quote). He strives to live comfortably, in a position where he doesn't have to live surrounded by dirt, beneath everyone else, but he doesn't act like this kind of life will suddenly bring him a fulfilling type of joy. Despite achieving the rich guy life he wanted, I don't think he'd be satisfied. There will always be a different kind of emptiness in Norton, that cannot be filled with boundless wealth. Still, he doesn't confront the fact that he wants more than just wealth. I think that's where Orpheus could help him realize, or rather, accept some things.
About nortpheus being toxic! I don't see that happening in many circumstances. Perhaps if Norton's anger (which he harbors lots of) got the best of him he could be pretty nasty, but Orpheus would likely see through most attempts at provocation. He's not really the calculated, manipulative guy the fandom paints him to be. At least, not in the way they portray him. Less dark, and much more human. If anything, I believe his manipulativeness is born from a desire to have control of his life.
If he were to be Freakeus at all, I don't think he'd do it in a way that would genuinely be harmful to Norton. Norton would likely be into it anyway idk he's weird too LMAO.
I guess I can go into headcanons now!
I kind of like making Orpheus marvel at Norton in anything I write about them (not much) or in my Nortpheus thoughts. I just think he'd find Norton interesting, that's all ^^ Maybe he'd see him as a kind of muse (he's always looking for inspiration!) or something like a delicate object to be handled carefully.
(I know calling Norton delicate sounds a little insane at first glance, but think about it. He can have some pretty strong reactions ("But his his personality became all the more extreme, at times gloomy and depressed, while at times explosively hot tempered and avaricious" (Famitsu Character Biography), and though he's been through so much, it's made him both stronger and weaker. The more he suffers, the more persistent he becomes, but he grows desperate too.)
A lot of my Nortpheus thoughts include Orpheus' very soft and calm cadence, and it's like. Very romantic I think. Ew!! I just think he'd speak to Norton quietly. I think that makes it way gayer too.
Orpheus is an inquisitive motherfucker! He asks Norton a lot of questions. He wants to know everything about him! Norton is not the type to give you a lot when it comes to talking about himself, but Orpheus is patient in the most sickening way... Norton's like God this guy really wants to know me. Ough.
In Nortpheus there's more coming from Orpheus' side than Norton's. Norton is the type to be pursued, not the type to do the pursuing. I think maybe he doesn't care about romance, or thinks it's not something he'll experience anyway. Like I said, he'd be pretty disbelieving of the fact Orpheus even likes him at all (miserable pos) but. Eventually there'd be movement. Eventually.
Though, there are some awkward ways Norton would try to reciprocate. Like I said, a real acts of service and gift-giving guy! He seems like the type to, if he were in love, be a little upset he didn't have more to give. I actually had this awful idea about writing a Nortpheus fic where Orpheus proposes and it makes Norton so upset because HE was going to do that, he just wasn't able to afford the ring yet... ow ow ow
Overall, Nortpheus feels very relaxed and warm to me. Since Norton is the type to kind of keep things to himself I'm sure that would cause some miscommunication, but they'd pull through... 💖
Ah I also had this thought that Orpheus would feel a little sick to his stomach after discovering that he'd killed Norton in such a brutal way. Do what you will with that!
OKAY please tell me your opinions on everything I said, I'm interested to know what people think about Nortpheus and how they see it. Feel free to message me ^^💖

Wip - The Emperor and Daff, my first Gith Tav! Partial Illithid Daff looking with hope at the future, after that night when they discovered the Emperor's Old Hideout.
It was a tough time, just before they found the Elfsong Tavern. Everyone seemed to be against them. The meeting with Raphael and Voss did not go well at all.
Between Lae'Zel who wanted to strike a deal with the Devil on the spot, and Voss who yelled at Daff "I would do anything, sacrifice anything to free Oprheus!" (paraphrased) calling them Vin'isk.
Not to mention how Raphael had cut their connection to the Emperor - "You feel... Empty" the Narrator says, and empty they did feel. It felt like choking on the absence of air.
Going out of Sharess' Caress, they looked at Astarion and Gale (why did they not take Shadowheart instead of Lae'Zel on that one? WHY?) 'I want to go to Camp. I need to think. I need to SLEEP.'
All they wanted, was to hear his voice and meet him in a dream.
And how graced they felt when he called to them "There you are. I thought I'd lost you."
The ache in their chest and heart had, until then, been unmatched. His pain. Their pain.
From that moment onwards, they knew they'd do anything if it meant not being apart from the Free Illithid. Their Ally. Their Shield. And right now, he felt like a shield for their sanity.
It was shortly after, that they entered the city and fell on the Elfsong Tavern, again, guided by his voice and advice.
What that one night brought, was hope. Lots of it.
