In the same year, Salman came up with the sequel to Dabangg which did a business of 158.50 crores. The total contribution of Salman in that year was 356.5 crores.

Year 2013

It was a break for Salman as his Jai Ho got pushed.

Year 2014

Jai Ho released and disappointed. The film couldn’t perform as per the expectations of industry and fans because of the average content but it still crossed the 100 crores mark and earned 111 crores at the box office.

The superstar covered up the losses with his next release in the same year i.e. Kick. The film was not just his highest grosser of the year but also got him an entry in the 200 crore club. Kick collected 233 crores at the Box Office. The total contribution was 344 crores.

Year 2015

Now, this was a big year for Salman Khan. His Bajrangi Bhaijaan got him both critical acclaim and success. BB became his first film to enter the 300 croresclub as it was widely loved by the public. The film earned 320.34 crores.

Salman followed it up with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The film was expected to do wonders at the Box Office and it opened on the same lines. The opening was historic but somehow due to average content, it dropped rapidly. Still, the film managed to cross the 200 crore mark as it did a business of 207.40 crores.

The total contribution for that year was 527.74 crores.

Year 2016

Salman Khan had a single release in 2016 and it was Sultan. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film had Salman and Anushka Sharma in lead. The sports and romance drama was loved by the audience and was yet another 300 crore grosser for the superstar. It did a business of 300.45 crores.

Year 2017

The year started with a disappointment for Salman. His Eid release Tubelight was a big box office failure, still, managed to rake 121.25 crores.

Tiger Zinda Hai, a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger brought him back to the game. The film starring him and Katrina Kaif in lead proved to be his highest grosser ever as it did a business of 339.16 crores.

New Delhi: Salman Khan's Race 3 continues to perform well at the box office. It is expected to cross the 150 crore-mark by the end of first week. On wednesday, the film earned Rs. 9.25 crore, making the grand total to Rs. 142.01 as per the reports of business analyst and Censor Board advisory member Atul Mohan. The talk around the film has increased over the last few weeks. The film has been marketed very well and people like the look of the film, which will definitely take a bumper opening. It is our hero Salman Khan’s movie, after all. The advance booking is quite remarkable and the buzz around the film has amped up in the last week or so. There is a spike in advance bookings too.

One, this is a Salman Khan film releasing on Eid and, two, the Race brand is huge. People can’t wait for the third instalment in this franchise and they want to watch Salman Khan in a Race film. Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai was also a huge brand and it generated a lot of anticipation but Tubelight was a disappointment. It was a little thanda from the very beginning. But the trailer of Race 3 has made it clear that this is an action movie with a glamourous backdrop and movies like these are very popular among the masses. I think this film will take the biggest opening for any movie in 2018 to date.

This is a good time to release movies. The vacation and festival season is good.  Also, in North India, due to load-shedding of electricity, people don’t want to sit in the heat indoors. They prefer to step out with family. So, a movie like Race 3 will pull in the audience, just as Raazi, Parmanu and Veere Di Wedding did. But Race 3 will earn much more.

Since this is an Eid release and it features Salman Khan, there is a lot of hype around the film. People have already started booking their tickets online. The Salman Khan and Eid combination always works for the audience. They look forward to it every year. But the hype is even more as Race 3 belongs to a huge franchise. The songs of the film are doing very well. No film has made as much noise as Race 3 is making this year and the collections of the film should be more than anything we have seen this year. The first day and weekend will be the biggest.

The anticipation about the movie is very good. The film features Salman Khan and we all know that Race is a very popular franchise. Hence the buzz will increase. It has action scenes at par with those in foreign movies and it is even more for a Salman Khan movie this time. All his films have fans in a tizzy, especially his Eid releases. The audience was very excited about Tubelight, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan but Race 3 has created a frenzy among the audience. This is the biggest release of the year, to date.

Advance booking is the biggest it’s been for a film in 2018 and it will pick up further tomorrow. What could be bigger than the combination of Salman Khan, Eid and Race? From what I hear, since Eid is on Saturday and Friday is the last Jumma, I think the day-one collections will be around Rs 38 crore, which is huge. Collections will grow on Saturday and even further on Sunday. The total for the first weekend will be around Rs 125 crore.

The main collections will be made on Saturday and Sunday, which will create a record-breaking opening weekend for this film.

The Race 3 craze is more than good. People have been booking tickets online and bookings have picked up today and will be even more tomorrow. When the film releases on Friday, I think it will cross Rs 40 crore. If it achieves that on its first day, we can expect a Rs 110-crore plus weekend. The film is big brand and it adds to the curiosity of the audience. It makes the film bigger than being only a Salman Khan movie releasing on Eid. Franchises do good business and when you have other great factors, the opening weekends are always good.

Tiger Zinda Hai looks to be heading for a 5.50 crore nett fifth week although it will depend on what sort of collections it gathers when Padmaavat opened on Wednesday evening. The film stands at 334 crore at the moment and will end the fifth week at 335 crore nett plus.

The fifth week business of the film will be the 7th or 8th highest of all time which is phenomenal for an action film which opened so high. The fifth week will be higher than PK the film whose lifetime total (337.72 crore nett) it chases. But a big film like Padmaavat will probably dent the trend which will keep it below PK.

Tiger Zinda Hai showed solid growth of 30% apprx as it grossed around 14.75 crore nett on its second Saturday taking its nine day business to over 232 crore nett with the 250 crore nett mark in sight after the second weekend. The second weekend drop is looking to be under 60% which is excellent for a film that opened so big and an action genre film.

The film has the potential to set circuit records outside Bahubali - The Conclusion. Eastern markets like Bihar, Assam and Odisha will set new all time highs while Mumbai also has a chance with the film standing at 73 crore nett in nine days chasing the 104 crore nett of Dangal. Tiger Zinda Hai had an excellent hold on its second Friday with collections in the 11.50 crore nett range which takes the film to over 217 crore nett in eight days and has already crossed likes of Kick and Chennai Express in just eight days. it took seven days to beat Golmaal again. The second Friday confirms the film is set for a long run and business of over 300 crore nett.

There is still the Xmas / New Year period on which is beneficial for box office and this will remain until Tuesday when collections could come down a little but even then it has an open field till the last week of Jan with hardly any competition. The eight day figures Tiger Zinda Hai is follows.

★ Tiger Zinda Hai Set To Be Highest Salman Nett Grosser !

Tiger Zinda Hai is heading to be the biggest NETT grosser for Salman Khan as its business will go past the 300 crore nett mark and Sultan over the weekend and then will also cross the 316 crore nett of Bajrangi Bhaijaan probably by the end of the third week.

The film has held very well on its second Tuesday with business of 7 crore nett. The drop from Friday is just around 40% which is excellent considering there was also a huge holiday yesterday. It was the first real working day post the Xmas and New Year when majority of the offices will be open after the break. There was a chance that it could see the first big drop but that did not happen.

★ Tiger Zinda Hai Continues Strongly In Gulf - Good In USA !

Gulf is heading for a record weekend for Tiger Zinda Hai as it grosses $2 million in two days. The collections are less than Sultan but that had the first four days all post Eid which are huge in this territory so is not really comparable. Here the film has released on a non holiday. Last year Dangal did $2,8 million in four days while the highest scorers outside Eid are Raees and Dilwale at $3 million and $3.1 million and Tiger Zinda Hai should surpass this and that too without a release in Kuwait. The first two day business in Gulf is as follows.

Thursday - $900,000

Friday - $1,100,000

TOTAL - $2,000,000

US / Canada has also started well with $450,000 on day one with the Xmas period to come over the weekdays. United Kingdom was £150,000 apprx. The film looks on course for the highest opening of the year Overseas beating the Shahrukh Khan starrers Raees and Jab Harry Met Sejal. There is outside chance it could get into top five openings in Overseas but is dependent on the growth in US / Canada.

★ 'Tubelight' May Be A Setback But Salman Khan's Star Power Is Undimmed !

While Salman Khan's Tubelight has not performed as brightly in cinemas in India and internationally as the producers, distributors and exhibitors had hoped, history will show this as a minor setback for the 51-year-old who is still in the prime of his 25-year career as one of Bollywood's biggest stars.

The results so far for the Kabir Khan-directed drama would have been rated as pretty good for most actors - but Khan's films are judged by a far loftier standard.

Arguably an emotion-soaked story about a Forrest Gump-like character who sets off in search of his missing brother in the 1962 Sino-Indian war would not have sold anywhere near as many tickets without SK's marquee appeal.

Salman still holds the record for the most hits in the 100 crore ($15 million)- plus club with 10, followed by Shah Rukh Khan with six and Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn with five.

Launched on June 23, the Salman Khan Films production, which features Sohail Khan, Zhu Zhu, Matin Rey Tangu and the late Om Puri, collected 83.86 crore ($12.6 million) in four days on 4,400 screens in India and did not get the expected boost from the Eid vacation.

The 5-day tally was projected to reach 95 crore ($14.2 million). Chennai-based analyst Ramesh Bala and Bollywood Hungama's Joginder Tuteja are forecasting a lifetime total of 150 crore ($22.5 million).

However exhibitors and pundits are confident Salman Khan will be back in the blockbuster business with director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai, which co-stars Katrina Kaif and opens this Christmas.

It’s the sequel to Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, which featured Salman and Kaif as cross-border spies who fall in love during a mission and amassed 320 crore ($48.1 million) worldwide in 2012.

“Star power and good entertainment is the key. Salman will bounce back very soon: One bad Friday cannot decide his fate ,” said Bala.

“Salman is too big to be written off by one film. He will surely be in a much bigger zone with Tiger Zinda Hai and others,” agreed film industry executive Girish Johar.

Although Johar rated Salman's ‘towering and emotional’ performance as among the best of his career, he said the the opening weekend figures show “the public has not accepted his vulnerable avatar and wants him to see only in larger-than-life roles.”

Similarly, critic/analyst Aavishkar Gawande said, “Salman’s failure with Tubelight is not a big thing. Shah Rukh Khan failed last year with a good film like Fan. I had been saying from the outset that that Tubelight is not Salman's cup of tea. He is made for larger -than- life roles. That's why I too feel that he will bounce back with Tiger Zinda Hai.”

Tuteja rejects suggestions the overwhelmingly negative reviews harmed ticket sales, reasoning, “A critic can neither elevate a film nor contribute to its decline; it is the film by itself that gains or loses its points. The word of mouth even from the regular audience hasn't been forthcoming and that has resulted in such steep decline in collections."

Analyst Sumit Kadel is confident Ali Abbas Zafar's film will be a sure-shot super hit but adds, “Whether it will be as big as Aamir Khan’s PK or Dangal remains to be seen.”

Whatever Tubelight's ultimate fate, the $15 million production was in profit before it opened. NH Studioz paid 132 crore ($19.8 million) for theatrical rights in India while Sony Music forked out 20 crore ($3 million) for the music rights and Star TV bought the satellite rights.
