BEDSITTER GIRL JANE ASHER [1966]
I'm sure that many of you are already quite familiar with this photograph of Jane Asher, it has been reproduced several times in various fashion books over the years, but it was originally published in a magazine editorial called The Time, The Place, The Dress, and (if you still need it) The Food, by Molly Parkin for Nova in 1966, and printed poster-sized over a double-page layout, measuring 51.5 cm x 34cm for full visual impact! Molly commissioned Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell to design the dress especially for the feature, she specifically wanted something which represented not only the fast-paced, disposable, transient nature of the current youthful attitude towards fashion trends but also something with enough decorative value to end up on the wall in a bedsitter as pop paraphernalia after it had been worn at the weekend, rather than thrown out with the trash!
So what better candidate for potential 'wall art' than a printed paper dress! Celia painted her initial ideas in gouache, inspired by the work of Paul Poiret and illustrations from La Gazzete du Bon Ton. The finished designs were then printed onto a suitable Johnson & Johnson manufactured paper by the 'Art to Wear' company of Zika Ascher, and the dresses were made to order for the sum of 17s 6d each. I love the fact that Celia also took it upon herself to paint the vinyl floor tiles in the mock-up bedsit, mirroring the design detail from the border of the garment to complete the overall look. And that Molly (a woman after my own heart), attributed just about every single item on display in the magazine feature to its original source, from the Biba beads right down to the Woolworth lollipops and sticks of rock!
On the floor: Jane Asher in a dress designed by Ossie Clark made of printed paper fabric designed by Celia Birtwell; made to order in small, medium and large sizes, approximately 17s 6d. Bangle at Woolworths, 2s 9d. Vinyl floor tiles painted by Celia Birtwell. Lilac patent shoe by Russell & Bromley, 7½ gns. Amber patent shoe by Elliot, 8 gns. Coloured cigarette by Sobraine, 7s 2d for twenty. Coloured crepe stockings by Russell & Bromley, 6s 11d. Pop tin tray by Goods & Chattels. 9s 6d.
Close-up of the design detail from the border of the dress.
Above: One of Celia's initial designs for the paper dress rendered in gouache, inspired by the work produced at the Martine School of Decorative Arts in Paris. The school was set up by designer Paul Poiret in 1911 at 'La Maison Poiret' in an endeavour to realise his dream of creating a decorative arts movement in France which would be on par with the new developments in the arts taking place in Vienna and Germany at this time. The students mainly consisted of young working class girls between the ages of 12-15 years old, Poiret encouraged them to work freely from nature, organising trips to the countryside and conservatories whenever possible, but apart from this input they were otherwise without artistic supervision. His role was merely to stimulate their artistic taste without influencing or criticising them, in order to maintain the purity of the original source of inspiration in the work. He would then select a range from the finished designs which were suitable for reproduction and have them applied to fabrics, wallpapers, carpets, cushions and ceramics.
The work received an excellent response amongst art circles, and following an exhibition at the Salon d'Automne in 1912 the demand was such that Poiret opened a retail outlet called 'Atelier Martine' on Rue du Faubourg St Honoré. With a very favourable review in Vogue, the Martines went from strength to strength, also using their designs to create magnificent large scale murals, transforming hotels, shops, offices, private houses and the studio of dancer Isadora Duncan into exotic oriental palaces in the process. An international reputation was quickly established, however, the gathering momentum of the Martines success was stopped in its tracks by the outbreak of WW1 in 1914. The school closed for the duration of the war, with many of the students relocated to a safer environment. Business eventually resumed as normal in the aftermath, but although Poiret tried several times to re-establish his career and the Martine style, most notably in the mid 1920s with an extravagant display at the International Art Deco Fair in Paris, both failed to ever regain the immense popularity of their glory days.
Three designs for round carpets, typical of the Martine style, from the workbooks of the School of Decorative Arts.

All the glassware from The Scientific Glassblowing Co Ltd. Hexagonal coloured boxes by Goods & Chattels, £1 17s 6d a set.

Disney Month :Disney World Memories and my favorite ride
For this 12th installment of Disney month ....Imma talk about my favorite ride was
So things to know :So I am from Florida , and I was a kid of divorce ,so I went Walt Disneyworld a few time as a kid, sometimes with my dad ,sometimes with my bio mom .Funny enough both sets of parents did the same thing ,we would actually drive to Orlando and wed actually go to two theme parks,Disney World and Universal
Now I am being honest while Disney World was fun .....I have more Universal memories then Disney World ones . I have a few memories that come to mind, like my bio mom getting me a ceramic Disney set of Mickey,Donald,Goofy ,Minnie and Pluto and my first time going on Pirates of the Carribian ....Which was the year of the big refurbishment where Captain Jack Sparrow ,Davy Jones , and Barbossa put on the ride ,so we were in line a long time and we all agreed it wasnt worth the wait
As for what my favorite ride is I must put on the disclaimer ,I didnt go on every attraction . Sorry to say despite going there a few times,I never experienced all the uber famous rides at Disney :I always to much of a chicken to ride Space Mountain or Splash Mountain and the lines for the dark rides like Snow Whites Scary Adventure or Pete Pand Flight were always uber long .I didnt even go on the Haunted Mansion till my last trip over 10 years ago ,though that might be my favorite Magic Kingdom ride...But My two favorite rides were NOT at the Magic Kingdom but actually at what is now Disney Hollywood Studios but as I knew it as a kid Disney MGM Studios
There are two contenders for my favorite ride ...One is straight up gone and the other has been changed. The gone ride is the Great Movie Ride, which appealed to a young aspering movie nut that I was (I honestly have a bit of a goal regarding that ride which is to see every film that had a section in that ride ,having seen9 of the 12 ,I just need to see the Searchers,Footlight Parade and Tarzan the Ape Man ) . This wonderful love letter to classic cinema is gone replaced by Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway ,which honestly looks fun ,but I am sad the Great Movie Ride is gone
As for what my favorite ride was as a kid ....We have to journey back to a long time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away
Based on the popular film franchise ,on the ride , opening in Disney MGM in 1989 (Though it had appeared two years before in Disneyland ) you enter a star cruiser that will take you on a tour of the forest moon of Endor ,piloted by RX-24 AKA Rex (voiced by Paul Reubins ) who is on his first flight, and things go wrong
So bit of context ,I was a Star WArs FANTAIC as a kid ,so it made perfect sense I would go gaga for a Star Wars ride ,and was before Disney owned the franchise ,so it kind of made this ride feel special ,one of the few non Disney properties in the park .Now there is a a whole Star Wars land (Which I havent been too ) and while I still have fondness for the franchise,I am not obsessed with it anymore like I was as a youngster .However I have such fond memories of this ride
I'll admit the Star Wars iconography helped ,it was fun to see an ATAT Walker at the entrance, you get name drops of Hoth and Tatooine,i and in the pre ride safety film you get cameos by Admiral Ackbar,Wicket ,and Chewbacca ,and even an appearence by deep cut character Teek from Ewoks Battle for Endor (Probabbly cause they had the costumes around but its still cool ) .The two coolest being at the end of the ride you do a trench run on the DEath Star (I know that makes NO sense considering this takes place AFTER REturn of the Jedi ,and at the time in canon the Emperor kind of exploded.....But who cares ,its rule of cool BABBBYYYY ) and animatronics of R2D2 and C3PO (Voiced as usual by Anthony Daniels ),and man as a kid seeing those two beloved characters in person was so neat
However I think the ride also stands on its own as a great ride .Through a brillaint mix of the Imnagineers technical know how and ILM's special effects ,we get one of the first big uses of motion simulators combined with a cool ride film ,making you feels like you are on a space ship being chased out of control . I also love Rex ,he is just a fun character,Paul Reubins does a good job voicing him (And I am delighted he has appeared in more Star Wars projects ) .You didnt need to know about Star Wars to dig it ,you ar just on this out of control spaceship with this goofy robot ,the sStar Wars stuff is flavoring not the whole point
The original ride is now gone sadly ,updated to include more iconagraphy .I have no oppinion on the updates but I do miss the old classic version ,kind of a peak at a simpler time in Star Wars history
Kind of a long one I know but hope you enjoyed my Disney World memories

7/16/24
back from the road now for about a week. slowly each day i have succumbed further to the panic and illness of my everyday life here. dishes arent done, stomach is a mess, exhaustion and panic and an eczema flareup. sinus symptoms, rash on my hands. all of my physical gripes were completely gone while i was out of town, i had so much energy, i was so much less anxious. i feel paranoid and sick. i dont know how to talk to my therapist about how afraid i am to leave the house because of the old plague and now the new surfacing. i dont want to leave my apartment but the walls are covered in and filled with mold that is making me so unbelievably sick. h noticed an immediate decline in my health and energy levels the minute i stepped foot in my apartment. i feel like ive been fighting a wave for the last week and i dont know i ever stood up against it before. it felt so good to be out of here, it felt so good to see the world and be home in the desert. its been a long time, but i have such a complicated and massive tangle of feelings in me my chest feels tight and hot. i dont really know what to do about all of this. im moving into a less moldy place but that comes at such a personal price to me, i have to get rid of almost everything i own which is such a difficult thing for me. i somehow have to sift through the emotions i set out for later from my trip, my terrible wonderful trip. we walked a labyrinth in every town and i filled my pockets with so many wonderful things, crystals from the mountains and sage from the desert and bones from the pine steppe and salt from the basin. caves, mountaintops, waterfalls, forests, coasts, wastelands. and h and i got along so well the whole time. things are really good with us right now, i really really hope he can see how much this place gets in the way of my health and happiness. its only ever really been about him occasionally, i think, and all of the grief has been from my overwhelm and him not understanding my overwhelm. he says everything will be right as rain if i move into my new place but itll be really tough if he moves into the trailer because its even moldier than my apartment. i feel very raw. ive got so much to do and no mind to start any of it. f has to get an abortion. i wish that i never really had to come home, i wouldve stayed out there for much longer. f is getting a new roommate in kk's house because they told me to find a different place before they had decided to stay. staying to study with c.b for the year but feeling so trapped and trod on and just helpless loss after having a dream about those 3 and upon waking thinking about how lucky and privileged they are as people, especially b. what a terrible feeling this is. therapy this afternoon after a brief last moment in the metals studio. ceramics studio open hrs this summer were so short and are so very nearly over, ill have to try and find some time to go in tomorrow on top of everything else. i hate how rushed and urgent everything always is. i hate how little energy i have. i think i might try cleaning up a little today. going to seatown tomorrow night to take care of f. gonna wash wool with bg in the morning though. god i am really feeling terrible this morning.

Artist Spotlight: Jeffrey Sincich
One thing that happened when listening to Jeffrey Sincich talk about his art is that Ace of Base’s 1993 hit "The Sign" kept playing in my head. This is because Sincich talks a lot about signs, particularly the ones you see walking around a city, which he replicates in quilted and mixed-medium works. Removed from their context, these signs make promises they can’t keep (FRUITS FOR 1$), intrigue and tantalize us (1 HOUR THE BEST), and provide space for gratitude (THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU). Sincich shared his thoughts on quilting (not just for grandmothers!), what cities have what kind of signs (New York: "ghost signs high up on buildings that have been there for generations"), and how to be more cognizant of what’s around us, which leads to deeper appreciation for the hidden meanings behind all that we see. As the Swedish adage goes: “I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes."
Studio AHEAD: Your work is inspired by the built environment. Have you always lived in cities?
Jeffrey Sincich: San Francisco is the first big city that I have lived in. It is also the first one I ever visited. I grew up in suburban Florida near the Gulf of Mexico and moved to Portland, OR a little after college. Almost as soon as I moved to Portland, I became obsessed with moving to San Francisco. My first trip here was in middle school when I came to visit my uncle, who was living here at the time. Even as a kid I knew this city was special. San Francisco is so dense, and forces you to be around so many different types of people, which I love. Sharing walls and hallways with people instead of side yards makes me feel like I am part of something larger. I enjoy being one piece of the puzzle, rather than feeling like I am on my own.
Living in a city that is built to function for 800,000+ people has created so many interesting architectural details. Awnings that are connected to signs that are connected to lights that are connected to window grates that are connected to fences. I am constantly looking around and noticing how people have cobbled together materials to make things work. There is so much texture and variety in materials on every block. The inspiration is never ending. Being able to see all of this from the sidewalk versus looking at it across a front yard or from a car speeding by is priceless.
SA: You do a lot of quilting yet you are not an old woman. Please explain.
JS: Sexism in the art and craft world is nothing new. Is sewing only for women? Is welding just for men? They are both means of joining two materials together, yet they are often associated with gender. My dad taught me how to sew in high school when I wanted to make bicycle bags. I really enjoyed learning a new skill that allowed me to make an idea I had in my head a reality. I learned how to weld in college and loved it. Unfortunately, metalwork requires a lot more tools, resources and space than sewing.
I have always been interested in craft and majored in ceramics in college. I found antique quilts so beautiful and often referenced their patchwork designs in my work. It seemed like a natural step to try and make a quilt. It was years after a failed attempt at making a quilt in college that I turned on my sewing machine again. After working full time as a sign painter for about five years, I wanted to start making art again. I decided to try making a quilt, this time inspired by the architecture I loved so much and got to paint signs on. A couple years and quilts later, COVID hit and I decided to turn my love of hand painted signs and lettering into quilts. It has been my focus ever since.
SA: A quilt is domestic. One thinks of fireplaces, interiors. I am particularly intrigued by your quilted works that represent outdoor spaces: street signs, façades, ads. Could you speak about this contrast?
JS: Signs can be personal. They are used to guide, inform, warn and sometimes manipulate you. Quilts are made to warm and comfort you. They often become hand-me-downs and keepsakes. They get worn down and are mended, holding family history. The same things can be true of signs. They fade and are touched up, sometimes professionally and sometimes not. Businesses can pass through different owners but still keep the same signs that have been up for generations. I like to reference the signs that have been cared for, or at least been maintained enough, to get a message across. Quilting objects from signs around the city like Clorox bleach and Marlboro cigarettes is my way of archiving the everyday items we often take for granted. I think that seeing these items as quilts makes them approachable in a more personal way.
SA: Are the window grates in front of your pieces like “All Makes & Models” or “Milk Beer” a comment on urban malaise?
JS: Yes and no. Window grates serve multiple functions. On one hand they are meant to keep people out. On the other they attract people with their beauty. I find this dichotomy of push and pull fascinating. The twists and curves that are used in the designs are gorgeous. Oftentimes they have hearts and sometimes the owner’s surname in them. They blend in with the architecture, filling asymmetrical voids and entryways. They cast beautiful shadows at night. The care and attention to detail put into the creation of these is amazing. That being said, they also serve to protect and evoke a sense of danger. They say look at me, but don’t you dare try to cross me.
I look forward to seeing these window grates every single day, on every block and on nearly every house. Their patterns are unique to San Francisco. I love adding a new design into my mental data bank. When I’m in other cities, I enjoy seeing what type of designs they use and how they are unique to that city's vernacular.
SA: What are some of your city-sign associations when in other cities? As a culture we tend to associate Las Vegas with neon, Paris with Guimard’s “Metropolitain,” New York with the colored circles of its subway…
JS: Cities can have unique sign styles, but more so individual neighborhoods. San Francisco’s Chinatown has many beautiful gold leaf window signs, often for family associations. The Mission has tons of beautifully stylized illustrations of the products sold in the storefronts. North Beach has giant, glowing neon signs outside the old strip clubs, begging you to come in. Los Angeles has endless hand painted signs, often in yellow, white, black, red and blue. They are faded by the relentless sun, showing off every brushstroke used to paint them. New York has ghost signs high up on buildings that have been there for generations, right next to freshly painted five story advertisements. These painted billboards still thrive in New York. The south has painted plywood highway signs that are barely holding on, advertising fresh oranges or alligator farms. It is really special to be able to walk around cities and see what old signs are still there, discovering which parts of their culture have stayed intact or have been left by the wayside.
SA: When you do step out of the city, where do you go?
JS: I go to West Marin. I don’t think there is a more beautiful natural place. It can bring me so much peace; the coastline, the rolling hills, the eucalyptus forests. Swimming in Tomales Bay is as close to swimming in Florida as it gets around here. It is beautiful in all types of weather: sunny, foggy and rainy. My favorite place is the Steep Ravine Cabins in Mount Tamalpais State Park. They have been around since 1938, and Dorothea Lange used to spend summers there with her family. They are these perfectly designed redwood structures that sit on the bottom of a cliff overlooking the ocean. I feel like I am in another world when I stay there, even though it’s just an hour away from my home. I have never been to an area that gives me this type of feeling, I love it.
SA: Is nature a type of sign?
JS: It can be. Sometimes it tells me to slow down and reminds me not to take things for granted. It is a reminder to try to stay out of the rat race more often. It can put me in a state of awe at how beautiful this world can be. But the one thing it always does is remind me that I can’t wait to get back to the city.
SA: Lastly, OPEN or CLOSED?
JS: Open, 24 Hours.

pottery week 1/6
i attended my first wheel throwing class this past sunday, and it kicked my butt. i went in there without doing any prior research, video watching, and had 0 experience in wheel throwing. i was more nervous about being in a classroom setting in person again after what felt like forever. there are 5 people in the class and one sensei. there's one white guy (outside of our sensei), and 4 asian girls including me LOL.
i should note that i attended a drop in modern dance class on presidents' day with T & S which was pretty out of my comfort zone, but easier because i went with friends. another side note: both T & S went back to their respective countries last week. T just got her citizenship recently, but had to delay her trip to vietnam due to passport issues. S's grandma passed away in taiwan so the trip was under sad circumstances.
similar to dance class, wheel throwing involves a lot of steps. however, dissimilar to modern class, we were unable to practice each step piece by piece. there were about 12 steps to making a cup and the instructor went through them very quickly. he offered hands on assistance to each individual, but by the time we reached the last step, i had already forgotten steps 2-3 lol. some of the other people had experience in pottery already, and i was the least knowledgable one. i had social anxiety when people asked questions my way and i was like idk...
during our first class, we went over kikuneri, a japanese kneading technique and how to throw off the hump, meaning we can make multiple pieces from a single large hump of clay in one sitting. we used a thread to cut our pieces off from the hump. i remember feeling really embarrassed during the independent work time, because i had forgotten the steps and i was unable to make a cup like the others were. i meekly walked up to the instructor and asked if he could demonstrate the steps to me again. the instructor sensed i was stressed and reminded me to have fun. he kindly sent me the notes after class.
although i was really looking forward to ceramics class, i'm now a bit intimidated and felt defeated after my first try. i realized i had grown so accustomed to learning from a screen that i totally blank/feel anxious when i have a live person teaching me. i realized it's actually really helpful to be able to watch recorded videos because you can pause and rewatch as many times as you'd like. the good thing is that with our class membership, we're free to go to the studio anytime to practice. i plan on going there maybe 1-2 additional times per week outside of scheduled class.
furthermore, i was a little too shy to talk to the people in my class. but hopefully i'll come out of my shell a bit more. from the looks of it, i'm the second oldest as the other people look like they're in their 20s. immediately after i came home, i started binge watching youtube videos (florian gadsby, woah) on wheel throwing and put a few books on hold so i can get up to speed. i also purchased an apron to wear in class. wish me luck on the weeks to come lol.
other life updates:
no success on any job searching yet. matt recently interviewed with recruiters out in bakersfield and oceanside. everything about the job seems to be great in bakersfield, besides the location. the oceanside work conditions were meh. we're both willing to live in bakersfield temporarily if he gets a job offer. additionally, there are per diem openings with harbor which matt can interview for. COH had explicitly told matt he didn't make it to the finalists, but that his info will be kept on file. we got ghosted by UCLA and UCI. and USC/la general seems to be stringing us along. hope that they have an answer soon, even if it's a no.
R&T have been our consistent friends. they hangout very casually/LA style where it's slow paced and elongated (as opposed to the NYer friends who are more fast paced and busy). they really treat our place like theirs lol. however, they may be leaving even sooner than september due to the dallas job. it's up in the air currently.
matt had his bottom two wisdom teeth taken out and spent about a week recovering/eating soft foods. he has had infections happening on and off for years and finally got it addressed :( the good thing about this is that finally it's been addressed and he's closer to a healthier weight with a restricted diet
i did early spring cleaning and threw out a lot of shit. we purchased an additional plastic drawer and omg i can access all my clothes more easily now.
my dad, SIL and niece will be going to cambodia late march
we watched american fiction in theaters with R&T. initially felt the film was a little slow and disappointed issa rae had such little screen time, but thought the movie overall was great
i sent my texan aunt a nice little "made in brooklyn" goodies box - with the chocolate room snacks and a candle set from apotheke.
the new MUJI duvet cover and insert have really grown on me and are getting more comfortable by the day
went in for an eye exam at a local place and enjoyed "being part of the city". i ordered sunglasses from warby parker as my vision insurance partially covers frames this year.

blog entry 7: the discipline of rest
it's been two tomorrows since my last entry. i spent monday morning cooking and baking off my 5lb zucchini baby. training at the studio went well in the afternoon. there wasn't really anything in the studio yet so it was brief, but i made a new antiquing friend in my coworker. she's a retired southern woman whose family has lived in this town for generations. after our training, she took me over to this old house and shed turned vintage and antique marketplace and there are sooooo many trinkets. i love anyone who respects and appreciates a good quirky trinket. we've already got plans to go to the monthly antique market together next month. it feels like i've unlocked a vintage shopping infinity stone.
i had plans to head to the city after training, but a headache and my body's strong desire for rest led me back home. as all of the things i have been waiting to accomplish come to fruition slowly but surely. i have been fighting the old feelings that my dreams have to come at the expense of my own well-being. from high school to college into my first full time job i was always exhausting myself and using that exhaustion as an indicator of my success. these days my rest has been a privilege that i have come to know very well. as i am called into action, i am actively working on the communication between my mind and body to shift that privilege into an intentional practice. rest as a strong discipline. a choice. a priority. i am my best self when creating from a rested body and mind and as i enter into life as a full-time artist having access to a full rested creative center is really important.
tuesday i headed into the city. stopping at my new favorite coffee shop for a warm matcha and quick conversation. another connection made across the counter with a community organizer looking for arts instructors to provide educational events for the black queer community in atlanta. we exchange info. another seed sown.
my day at the station is productive. i glaze, trim, and throw a couple pieces. and finally get the ball rolling on my first classes for next month which starts with a couple calls to the ceramic supply center for a quote on the materials i need to start firing the kiln. i leave the station when my body has had enough. just in time to catch the beginning sunset on my ride home. i watch sun tuck in for the night and the thinnest silver of the moon hang between the oranges and blues from my sunroof in the parking lot of steak and shake. belly full. i head to the farmers market to grab some fresh veggies for the week. i've learned to never shop on an empty stomach. i opt for the evening murmur of the after-work shoppers between aisles over my usual curated playlist and headphone combo. a young boy explores the sugar cane, thai bananas, and curious root vegetables with his mother. "what's this ma? can we try it? so this is like a green stick of sugar? how come they don't have this at kroger?" his mother happily accepts each new curious addition to the cart. "just know that you are gonna have to share this with everyone when we get home" i admire her willingness to let him explore. i am remind of my weekend trips to the farmers market with my grandmother. where i learned all the new ways that foods and flavors could exist. the ride home is dark, quiet, and winding. i open the windows and listen to the woods fly by. the plastic bags in the truck rustle from the wind. i come home to my parents and a warm home. settle into a small bowl of soup and tuck in rather early. until tomorrow.

Manmeet Sandhu in NYC, Day 13
@9.30 Trip to oyester cleaning
Took a ferry ride to Governors Island ....saw Statue of Liberty from the first time though from a distance..it was a long walk to oyester park /billion oyester project from the ferry point. It almost seemed that i lost my way...
The project, as Ashley told was a long running project and had a deadline to clean and repopulate/rehabilitate a billion oyesters by 2025...for this they seek the volunteers on a regualr basis , hence therew were volunteers amongst the group that had been helping for an year or more...
(my understanding of the project-) the idea behind the project was to acquire used oyester from the restaurants around NYC... clean and wash them and then artificially inseminate/ put the embryo/re-fertilize them and then put them back in the water around NYC. Hence giving the poor oyesters a bit of a push in procreation, saving there time and energy...
Our job of the day was to clean and arrange around the project area for some high profile visit the next day...
Have to mention the place was filled oyester in piles and in racks and they had an entire paraphernalia/ machinery to do the cleaning...,
The volunteers were divided into groups...few including arranged the racks, removed the trash from the oyester park, while the sun baked us...later i tried shovelling oyester in a basket for the cleaning and washing process, it wasn't easy
Chatted with a few volunteers , some showed interest in why / How was I there.. discussion about sustainability programs in Delhi/Bangalore...
About the island...with its abandoned houses/ buildings, no high-rises, looks beautiful and almost like old America that we see in the films...
And there was a pop up market too...
Pop up markets in NYC have graphic designers, Jewellery and young designers selling their works in the form of stickers, print, cards, t shirts , glass art ceramics, belts , food, and so on... inspiring and motivating...
Wandering around the island it was surprising to see that the houses there were let out as studios for various art residencies program ( a NYC project)... weekends were open days... The projects also included art projects by school students ... probably the best part of the program. Enjoyed the trip...
Took the 2 o'clock ferry to mainland as guided and reached Marjorie Eliot's place for some jazz music. My first home/studio events ...there were five musicians, including Marjorie who took turns playing the piano, the lively jamming made the packed parlour come alive. The also hosted a German musician who was there for short visit...
The last event of the day was finding Campbell soup cans and coconut cookies around the neighbourhood ... a lucky find...
Later realised missed to participate in an online discussion on racism...wish i hadn't...

Blog Post 2
Carrer de Montcada: This street is located in the El Borne neighborhood and is known for its art galleries, shops, and workshops. The street is also contaoins the "Museu Picasso", which showcases the works of the famous artist Pablo Picasso.
Carrer dels Petons: This street is in Barcelona's El Raval neighborhood and is known for tattoo and piercing studios. You are also able to find shops that sell handmade jewelry, clothing, and other boutique products.
Carrer de la Boqueria: Near the "Mercat de la Boqueria", Carrer de la Boqueria is known for its many food/market shops. Passerbys can find shops that sell handcrafted tea, spices, and sweets. The street is also home to several bakeries which sell anything from bread to cakes.
Carrer de la Llibreteria: This street is located in the Gothic Quarter and has countless book stores. Some of these stores sell rare and antique books, while others offer handmade journals and notebooks.
Carrer de la Bisbal: Carrer de la Bisbal is also in in the Gothic Quarter and is home to many ceramic shops. Visitors can find shops that sell handmade pottery as well as pottery classes and workshops.
The "Els Gremis", or guilds, were established in Barcelona during the Middle Ages. These were formed by craftsmen and tradesmen who worked in specialized professions, such as shoemakers, artists, and bookmakers. Similar to unions, these guilds helped these professionals regulate trade, create standards, and protect and preserve their craft. They also played an important role in the economic life of the city, and many of their buildings, monuments and streets can still be seen in Barcelona today.
2. "La casa-taller" was a family house in medieval Barcelona where both living work spaces and living areas were in the same building. Normally, there were multiple floors containing different rooms and items. The ground floor of the house would normally be used as the work area. It was often an open space that had space for the equipment needed for the craftsman's trade. Sometimes, these houses would have a mezzanine which could be used for storage or as a workspace. Often, the first floor was the living area of the house. It was usually divided into a couple of rooms; kitchen, living room, and sometimes bedroom. The next floor was a sleeping area for the family members or apprentices of guild members.
3. Notably, the construction of the balconies and floors varied as you progressed upwards. Often, it can be seen that balconies get smaller and smaller as you go up. Moreover, the roof and window size decreases. These buildings were also built to last, and were constructed mostly out of stone. These buildings were also very narrow and had a less uniform construction as some buildings outside the old walls. There was also no plumbing in these buildings, so any bowel or bathroom activities were collected in a bucket and thrown on the street.
4. Santa María del Mar: The Gothic-style church was the church we saw on our field trip this week. It is a symbol of Catalan uprising because it was built by the Catalan community without any support from the church or crown. The Santa María represents the values of community and individualism, which are deeply embedded in the Catalan culture.
El Mercat del Born: This market in Barcelona was built in the 19th century. Like many in this list, it was a symbol of Catalan identity and resistance to the Spanish state and crown. As we saw, the market was built on top of the ancient ruins of the city's medieval area.
El Fossà de les Moreres: This is a street in the Gothic Quarter which directly translates to "The Grace of the Mullberrys". This was the site of an uprising against the French occupation of Barcelona in the 1800s. Although this failed, it has become a symbol of the Catalan freedom struggle.
La Ciutadella Park: The public park that was originally built as a fortress after the War of the Spanish Succession. Since then, it has become a symbol of Catalan history. It was also the site of the first Universal Exhibition, or Worlds Fair, held in Spain in 1888. The park also contains many people practicing traditional cultural, recreational activities and has therefore become a symbol of the city's identity.
5. These decease from 1714 marked the official end of the Catalan freedom movement and established Philip V as the ruler of Spain (including Catalonia). This brought upon many changes to the community and country as a whole. Most notably, Catalan language and tradition was outlawed. The official language of the whole country became Spanish. This meant that all business, schooling and government work had to be done in Spanish, not Catalan. This also stripped the Catalan people of their cultural identity as they were unable to practice many of the traditions which used to be staples in Catalan culture.
6. El Consolat de Mar was explained to us as a stock exchange and consulate. The building was very close to the sea and ports, meaning it was in a great position for trade. Many sailors and merchants would travel to Barcelona to sell their goods and services in the cities many markets and shops. This court regulated the buying and selling as well as established rules when it came to sea travel and trade. The influence of the Consolat started to extend past the city and developed ground rules for sea trade.

Aaaaa tysm!!!Kory is so underappreciated! Is it okay if if request platonic hcs for being best friends with Kory?
i really think being friends with kory would mostly just be casual hangouts ranging between doing nothing/passive activities to doing things you both enjoy
so your hangouts are often spent taking trips around town to shop and try on clothes before getting lunch at a restaurant that opened not too long ago. or hanging out with donna too and going with them to kory's photoshoots in the park, where you pretty much cheer them on before donna turns the camera on you for smile and laughter-driven photos. or heading to a ceramics studio to paint and make bowls for each other's homes, where you both comment and laugh at each other's poorly shaped life-drawings translated onto the surfaces of mugs or coasters
regardless of whatever the both of you are doing (or not doing), the bulk of your hangouts are mostly conversations to catch one another on each other's lives. since kory is often off-world for weeks or months at a time, you only really are able to hangout for short (or long) bursts of time before the next mission or crisis rolls around. so its not unusual for the majority of your conversations to revolve around how school and/or work is going for you, how missions are going for her and how the titans are doing, or how you dealt with idiots you had to work with while kory was fighting an global threat
and it's not uncommon for you to find yourself on the kitchen floor of donna and kory's apartment, containers of left overs in your hands as you have one of your infamous late night conversations, a ritual between the three of you during your many sleepovers (a way to drag out the time spent together). these conversations travel great distances, shifting between rants about your day, the kind of photography donna wants to explore, and kory talking about tamaran. its nights like these where you all delve into each other's loves and hates, the missing and the found, the gapping emptiness of your souls and what crawls inside and makes that space home.
it's kind of also become ritual for you and kory to share gifts with one another, as if they're thank you notes and love letters for being in each other's lives and listening to what you each have to share. usually these gifts are echoes to previous conversations, like your painting a landscape of a corner of universe for kory based off of the descriptions she told you about from her last off-world mission
one thing to note is that kory loves greatly and is highly emotional, in that she becomes very attached in pretty much all her relationships. she carries this trauma and fear of abandonment with her that she also brings into her friendship with you. it appears mostly through her wanting to spend as much time with you as possible. after a few times of pseudo-moving into her and donna's shared apartment for several weeks before they left for a new mission, you both would eventually have that conversation about boundaries and establish a more healthy friendship
overall i really think a friendship with kory would be a very beautiful thing, filled with so much warmth and joy and love. even if y'all aren't always near by or available to spend time together, you both put in the effort to find time and meet each other in the middle :)

just a little fic I wrote based on Loboto going to pick his kid up at the end of Psychonauts 2, I’ll probably post it on ao3 later (CW: what could be described as parental neglect, references to mental health struggles and therapy, step-parents)
“I’m sorry I was late picking you up, but in my defense, I was a little held up by being kidnapped by the goddanged psychonauts!” A dilapidated hot pink car drove along the country road, two plush molar danglers bobbing from the rear view mirror. It was patched with odd pieces of sheet metal and the back windows were covered in stickers. Caligosto Loboto placed a ceramic thermos labeled WORLD’S #1 BEST DADTIST (DENTIST DAD) back in the cup holder. “Anyway, it’s good to have a little uncertainty in your shelter situation! Roasting berries and trapping fish! It prepares you for when you’re an adult and you have to live in an abandoned shark taxidermy factory because no one will rent a studio space to a neurological marine dentist who ‘doesn’t have the appropriate paperwork’!”
“Except that’s not going to happen to me because I’m not crazy like you. I’m normal, like Mom. We’ve been through this.” Bobby was lounging in the back seat in a way that was probably a car safety hazard, the large shopping tote he used as a suitcase already having toppled upside down onto the carpet. “And yeah, the psychonauts freaking arrested you because you stole everybody’s brains! God, you’re so embarrassing! I hoped they would never meet you because you’re so freaking weird and now- now they met you and you basically kidnapped them and did brain surgery on them! What the fuck?”
Loboto gripped the steering wheel a little tighter. “Okay, I’m gonna give you a freebie on that one, but still, you only get two more F bombs this week. And I’m going to try to ignore how absolutely mean you’re being to me, when I’m also a victim here! I was hypnotized! Experimented on! Rotated in the air like a deli chicken! Because I realize that… I did a not great thing, a bad thing even, and I knew when I was thinking about taking your brain that it was probably a bad idea and I should just say I did it but not actually do it.” He sighed and looked at his son through the mirror, and their bicolor eyes met. “I’m really sorry, Bobby. I know I’ve done a lot of things that made life hard for you. But I’m going to start working on myself. They said I could go to therapy at the Motherlobe, and Sasha and Milla have already helped me out a lot! Do you think we can work things out?”
Bobby put his bare feet on the window glass and looked up at the ceiling upholstery. The fabric was beginning to decay and there were little beads of foam on the surface. “I don’t know. I mean, I guess you’re my only dad.”
Caligosto shrugged. “I’ll take that for now!” Just then, his eye caught a figure ahead along the road side. As they pulled closer, he saw that it was a small man in ragged clothing, walking with his thumb outstretched. He was covered in soot and looked exhausted. “Oh look, it’s your stepfather!”
“Wait, what?”
Cal beeped the horn as he slowed down. making the man startle dramatically and turn to face them. His face was bruised, with a dry split cracked open across his prominent lower lip. “Crispin! Get in the car, we’re going home!”
Crispin blinked a few times. “Doctor?”
“Yes, it’s me, Doctor Loboto! Now get in the car!”
The passenger door opened and Crispin slid into the seat, carrying with him the smell of unwashed hair and ash.
“Crispin, you need to take a shower. Also, this is my son, Bobby.” He gestured toward the back seat. “Bobby, this is my boyfriend and second in command, Crispin. Good! Everyone knows each other now!”
Crispin turned his upper body and squinted into the back seat. “Er, hello. I’ve heard… about you. Good things, to be clear.”
Bobby rolled his eyes. “Whatever. My mom has boyfriends too. Just don’t be a dick and don’t try to brush my hair.”
“Look at this! Me and my two favorite guys, talking in the car on a road trip!” Loboto said. “Ooh! We should go to that diner with the prehistoric animals!”

i feel like in a relationship with hao, you have such a tight bond that when he’s miles away, its okay if you don’t keep a long text conversation through the day
instead, you call at the end of your day, the end of his day, or both
to the point where even if you can’t call, you get good morning and good night texts
it works, and its enough for the both of you
cause your love is that strong
he’s naturally quiet
won’t open up to you unless you ask, but you don’t have to pry much, he tells you what’s on his mind
sometimes he doesn’t, he uses one of his other outlets (reading, sketching, painting)
that’s okay
you lay your head in his lap and nap as he reads
do your work / or study in his art studio while he paints or draws
i feel like his love language is physical touch, he just needs you there and that’s enough
a passionate love
you're his person
he's your person

now joining the infinite k-tour is MOON SEONJAE ! the 24 year old is onboard as the MAIN VOCALIST of the group, TIDAL. he is known to be very EASY GOING but secretly STUBBORN. also, doesn’t he kind of look like SONG MINGI ?
hiya, it’s orion (taehwi’s mun), back with another muse. ♡ this is moon seonjae, and while i work on his profile and things, here’s a quick introduction to him and a few possible plots to start with! this is a sideblog so it’s why i’m unable to follow back, but feel free to message me here or over on taehwi for any new plots with seonjae, or leave a like and i’ll try and come to find you soon!
BACKGROUND
── seonjae grew up in seoul with his mother, only the two of them. his mother had always been an artist, and they lived above a ceramics studio in which she made and sold her own works, and hosts regular ceramic classes.
── he’d always helped out with the business, and they have always been incredibly close. he’s very protective over her, and while he doesn’t know much about his father, he also became incredibly close with his aunt, who would often come over to babysit him while his mother hosted classes.
── there is the fact that he’s never been able to sit still. the only time he’s able to calm that steady rhythm throughout his body is when he’s making pottery, when he’s concentrating on finding form through the clay, or when he’s singing. it had been something he discovered one day while cleaning up the studio, humming under his breath. all of that radio static in his mind and his bones dissipates.
── so he sings. he writes. he writes so many songs, and instead of making them into something more, he carves and creates more pottery, works with the clay and tries to settle all that steady beating he hears.
── his aunt likes to take him to music shows. it’s this way that he discovers he could sing for people, that he’d like to, and so he signs up for open mic nights. seonjae starts getting invited to sing for events, for other bands, and so he goes where he’s asked, and uses the money to help out his mother, pay for the studio and supplies.
── he gets scouted by a company when he’s seventeen. he trains for a year before he debuts in tidal in 2015 as the main vocalist of the group. he sees it as a chance to turn something that’s always comforted him into something that could comfort others, too. he just wants to spread happiness just like he’s seen his mother do with her talent all of these years.
── seonjae’s usually quite relaxed. not much bothers him, and if anything, he’s always just listening to music, knee bouncing, or trying to find something to do with his hands.
── while he does write music, he doesn’t show much of it off, more of something that he uses as a way to occupy his time.
── he likes calling back home to his mom often. since he wasn’t apart from her usually ever until he started his trainee life, he still has moments where he misses home, even all of these years later.
PLOTS
── he’s an incredibly good wingman. let him know you’ve got a crush on someone at the bar and he’ll go over and introduce you both in the next five minutes, you don’t even have to ask twice.
── if you ask him to go with you at two am to go and buy snacks from the convenience store, he’ll drop everything and go with you, singing at the top of his lungs all of the while.
── he doesn’t mind going out of his way to make others laugh, even making fun of himself whenever he’s a little too clumsy and he runs into something, or trips over his own feet.
── sometimes he gets himself air drying clay to play with throughout his days, and he forms them into tiny animals and leaves them somewhere for someone else to find. he doesn’t really admit to doing it, but maybe you’ve seen him leaving one behind and you have a certain request.
