Young Entrepreneur Sees a Future in Buffalo Wings; Plans to Expand Chuck's Cafe into Nationwide Chain
The Buffalo wing might have been born .n that northern New York city, but if Lyle Menendez has his way, Princeton will be its jumping-off place to national success. The 22-year-old former Princeton University student, a graduate of Princeton Day School, has bought Chuck's Spring Street Cafe for an undisclosed sum. He wants to expand it into a nationwide chain under a new name, Mr. Buffalo's.
Mr Menendez said Mr Buffalo's would have a midwestern motif centered around health food and Buffalo wings He plans to build the first in the chain at Quaker Bridge Road and Park Plaza in April Future plans call for expansion throughout the country, with early sites planned near Rutgers University, the University of California at Los Angeles, and Yale University Mr Menendez bought
Chuck's with money inherited from his parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. The couple was found murdered in their home in Beverly Hills on August 20, 1989. The Menendez family had lived in Elm Ridge Park for many years. For a brief time, before moving to California, the family lived in the former J Dudley Clark house that is now part of the Mountain Lakes preserve At the time of his death, Jose Menendez was chairman and chief executive officer of Live Entertainment, Inc., a major distributor and retailer of video and recorded entertainment The homicide remains under investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department. Lyle Menendez said he was happy about his decision last year to leave Princeton University. "It's a trade-off," he explained "I would love to get the education, but I can't justify postponing my dreams " Hayden Rogers, a member of the class of '92, has taken the year off from the University to serve as chief operating officer for the new chain. Gus Tangalos, who managed Chuck's for the previous owner, will continue at the restaurant Strength from Community Mr Menendez, who spent much of his childhood in Princeton, said he has drawn strength from the community in the past few months "I've found the University and the Princeton populace to be extremely supportive, both in light of the recent tragedy and for my pursuing endeavors," he said, adding that it was one of his mother's delights that he open a small restaurant chain and serve healthy food with friendly service. The founder and original owner of Chuck's, Chuck Hector, is a 1978 graduate of Princeton University. He introduced the Buffalo wing to Princeton in a small Spring Street location that formerly housed Rosso's Cafe Mr Hector currently owns Chuck's in Hamilton Township Mr Menendez said he would like to expand into the second story of the Spring Street site He intends to keep the basic menu, but has upgraded the chicken wings

Is Creative James Media as a publisher legit?
I had never heard of this publisher, so I looked them up. (Sorry this got so long, it turned into a real detective session!)
For what it's worth -- these are my observations based on easily-gettable information. I am not throwing shade on them -- I have no idea if they are good, bad or indifferent to work with -- just stating what I see.
From my perspective, the website is a bit of a hot mess. The "about" section tells us literally nothing about them, so, ???? -- Do they have a mission statement? Do they have experience in publishing books successfully? Do they have trade reviews, awards, or anything to brag about? Do they have good distribution (ie, are their books available in brick-and-mortar bookstores?) -- impossible to say from this website.
Additionally, though on the home page there are three books "available for pre-order" and on the blog they talk about one other book -- there is no page that has... you know... BOOKS on it. WHAT BOOKS DO THEY PUBLISH???? You can find them if you click on each individual author's page, but it is a hunt to get there if you are just trying to browse. This is problematic from a user experience perspective.
On the submissions page, it says "Submissions open for all sub genres of romance!" -- and you can query through "QueryTracker" -- (which is wrong, they mean QueryManager, but whatever) -- but when you click the mis-labeled link to submit work, it says Queries Closed.
The books themselves, just based on their covers, are a mixed bag -- some are nice looking, some so-so (in my opinion, your mileage may vary!)
The e-books are available on Amazon and Kobo (which is all I checked), so that's fine, e-book availability on multiple platforms is good.
The paperbacks can be ordered from Amazon, or bookshop.org or other indie booksellers. OK great. However. Because I have access to Ingram, I can see that though the books ARE technically "orderable" by pretty much any regular bookstore, the majority of them are being sold on a non-returnable basis at what is called a "short discount."
Normally a bookstore would order from a publisher or distributor like Ingram at a "regular" discount. Let's say the discount is 40% (it may vary but will probably be in the 40-45% range). Then they sell the book for the cover price, and make a profit. And if they can't sell the book, they can return it to the publisher.
In this scenario, many of these books are in Ingram at a 10% discount -- which means that the store would be making pretty much no profit on the book -- and the books would NOT be returnable. This is totally unsustainable and there's little chance a regular bookstore would carry short-discount non-returnable books in any kind of big way. (Maybe if the author is local and they are doing them a favor or something - but other than that? Nope.) A reader can special order the books, or order them online -- but they won't be sitting in piles at the airport or anything, let's put it that way.
I assume (but don't know for a fact!) that the books are discounted that way because they are "Print on Demand" -- ie, they are printing them as they need them, which is significantly more expensive than having a large run of books printed overseas by an actual printer -- but of course, then they aren't sitting on piles of books they can't sell. There's nothing wrong with P.O.D., per se, that's how lots of indie authors and very small presses do it and it totally makes sense -- it's just a thing that might cut into profits and make an additional hurdle to wide distribution.
So, OK, are they "legit"? Well, they exist. I don't know what their contracts look like (probably not great?) or what they pay (I'm assuming not much, if anything, but I don't KNOW that). I don't know if their editor(s??) are good at editing. I don't know what their marketing efforts are like. I do know that they used to offer "marketing packages" that you paid for (which is highly not cool) -- I don't know if they still do that, because that page was removed from their website. But here's an Absolute Write thread about them.
Based on all this, as an agent, I would not be sending them my client's work. (Not that they would even publish my client's work, anyway, I'm certain they wouldn't WANT me to send it!) -- but again, YMMV. IF you want to be published by a very small press, IF they are offering you a decent contract, IF you like them and they seem to "get" your book, and IF you are going in with eyes wide open knowing that the majority of getting the word out about your book will likely fall to you... well. OK. But you might want to just speak to some of their authors or do a bit more digging, just to be SURE it is the right move for you.
-- and not about them in particular, but in ANY case, I'd also think about what a publisher is offering you vs what you are giving up. What are they doing for you that you could not do for yourself?
The point of publishing with a traditional publisher is that THEY pay for professional-level editorial, design, getting the book distributed across the country or the world, and they pay you. If you are giving a publisher rights to your book, and they are NOT offering you those things... why not just self-publish so you can make decisions about your book yourself, keep all the rights AND the profits?

The Cannula Quest: Journey into Market Evolution
The cannula market involves medical tubing that serves as a conduit for inserting and draining body fluids or providing access to surgical instruments. Cannulas are commonly used during minimally invasive procedures like laparoscopy for facilitating easy passage of instruments through small incisions. The increasing preference for minimally invasive surgeries over conventional open surgeries is a key factor driving demand for cannulas globally. Minimally invasive procedures minimize hospital stay, recovery time, and risk of postoperative complications. The Global Cannula Market is estimated to be valued at US$ 180.4 Mn in 2024 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 7.5% over the forecast period 2023 to 2030. Key Takeaways Key players operating in the cannula market are Smith & Nephew, Maquel Holding B.V. & Co. KG., Sorin Group, Edward Lifescience Corporation, Medtronic plc, Terumo Corporation, Boston Scientific Corporation, Teleflex Incorporated, Conmed Corporation, Dolphin Surgicals, Micromed International, Goodhealth Inc., and Biotek (Chetan Meditech Pvt. Ltd.). These players dominate the global cannula market with their wide product portfolio and strong geographical presence across major markets. The rising acceptance of minimally invasive procedures presents lucrative opportunities for cannula manufacturers globally. Growing geriatric population suffering from chronic conditions will necessitate more surgical procedures, boosting cannula demand. Cannula suppliers are enhancing their R&D capabilities and production lines to cater to rising complex surgeries worldwide. Geographic expansion into emerging regions is a key focus for major cannula companies. Significant unmet needs in Asia Pacific and Latin America offer scope for cannula providers to augment their shares in these markets. Partnerships with local medical product distributors facilitate smooth supply and after-sales services. Market drivers: 1) Increasing preference for minimally invasive surgeries - Growth in laparoscopic, arthroscopic and other MIS procedures worldwide is a major factor necessitating more cannulas. According to industry estimates, MIS procedures are growing at 10-15% annually. 2) Rising geriatric population- Growing prevalence of chronic diseases among the elderly drive surgical volumes and subsequent demand for cannulas used in these surgeries. As per UN data, over 16% of global population will be aged 65+ by 2050. Market restrain: 1) Higher costs compared to conventional devices: Cannulas have a relatively higher acquisition cost than traditional surgical tools, limiting their adoption in price sensitive areas. This can restrain market revenues especially in developing nations. 2) Training and sterilization challenges: Effective use of cannulas requires specialized training of surgeons and operating staff. Their reuse after sterilization also poses contamination risks if not done properly. This adds to set up and maintenance costs for healthcare facilities.
Segment Analysis The global cannula market can be segmented based on product type, application, end-use, and region. Based on product type, the needles segment dominates the market as it is widely used for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Based on application, the cardiovascular surgery sub-segment dominates as cardiovascular diseases has high incidence and cannulas are widely used in cardiovascular procedures. Global Analysis Regionally, North America is anticipated to account for the largest share in the global cannula market till 2030 due to increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, growing elderly population, presence of major players, and developments in healthcare infrastructure. Asia Pacific is anticipated to grow at the fastest rate during the forecast period owing to growing medical tourism, rising healthcare expenditure, increasing incidence of chronic diseases, and growing medical device industry. China, India, and Japan are anticipated to drive the growth of the Asia Pacific cannula market during the forecast period.

Week 14 Blog
Why is it important for producers to help market their film, and not rely solely on distribution to do so?
Independent film distributors are incredibly busy, and cannot be solely relied on for marketing. Producers must market their own film if they hope to stand out in those crucial first day/weeks of release.
2. Explain in your own words why ‘a mediocre genre film with a B list name is more likely to garner a decent return than a great film of the same genre without a name in it?
Normal people generally watch movies because they recognize stars from previous movies they've seen that they like. Normal people also generally care for star power more than they do good film making. You're a lot more likely to get Joe Everyman to click on your film on Netflix with a cover photo with a recognizable face than to tell him it has excellent cinematography. People who aren't in the industry or film hobbyists generally don't care about technical elements.
3. What is a deal memo?
A memo scoping out the terms of employment for crew members on a film production. Generally includes the name of the production company, name of the film, start and end dates for production, the crewmembers position, name, and tax identification number, rate of wages, travel provisions, meal compensation, and rental agreements.
4. In short why is a deal memo important?
Not having a clear-cut contract for any sort of job is a disaster waiting to happen, especially with something as volatile as film making. Crewmembers might come in with certain expectations based off of previous productions they've been a part of that are not applicable to this production. It's best that everyone is on the same page from the beginning to squander any potential problems down the road.
5. Why is it important to give deal memos to cast/crew members that are working probono?
It's absolutely vital to give a deal member to cast and crew working probono, since they're not receiving financial compensation for their work. You absolutely need that in writing, in case they later attempt to seek compensation that they have no claim to. You also want them to agree to all the terms of employment that everyone else is agreeing to, so they can't make the arguments that those terms didn't apply to them because they aren't receiving compensation. In general, it's always in your active interest to have everyone who sets foot on a set to sign a deal memo, less you open yourself up to unforseen problems down the road.
6. In your own words, please explain ‘No Obligation To Produce.'
A 'no obligation to produce' provision is something extremely important to include in a deal memo. What it means is that the production company isn't obligated to include the contracted work in the final film, or even actually release the film itself. This is useful whenever you contract out work that ends up subpar, like a soundtrack or a film poster, so you're not forced to include this in a final film. It's also important to include in case you need to entirely scrap the film. Many A-list actors will have provisions in their contracts to receive percentages of the film's box office gross. You need to include a 'no obligation to produce' provision in the deal memo so you can't be held liable for these projected percentage-based income in case the film ends up never being released.
7. Provide visual aid

8. List 5 questions you want me to go over class
I was kind of confused about the ROI formula when we covered it in class.
How to find guild rates. When I was looking them up some of them were hidden behind a login screen. Is there a central location to get this information?
Budgeting. How to find budgets of films without paying for IMBDPro.
I'm really struggling in general with all of the assignments related to the sub-$2 million budget for the project. Like we're supposed to spend half the budget on marketing, and also get an A-List actor. I assume any A-List actor is going to have a salary higher than $2 million. But even if they didn't, between marketing as half the budget and the A list actor's salary, and ~1/5 of the budget for contingency, I don't understand how to a have a budget for anything else.
In general, I think all of the stuff I've been struggling with is the material from week 2.

From Francisco Rabal
Madrid, 14 May 1982
Dear uncle, Although it’s been a while since I wrote you a long letter (I’ve sent postcards), do not think I have forgotten you, I get regular news of you through our mutual friends, most recently from Juan Estelrich, who told me you were in good shape and fine humour, and that you sent your always affectionate greetings to this nephew of yours. A few days ago, the Madrid ABC published a preview in two parts of your memoirs, Mi último suspiro. I was really touched by your fond memories of me and laughed at the jokes you played on Fernando and other friends. I can’t wait to read the whole thing in Spanish, which Plaza and Janés have announced will be out soon. I was thinking of sending you copies of the ABC with you on the front cover, but I only have one copy and I imagine someone will already have sent you them. If not, let me know and I will.
I also read a few days ago that Juan Luis was in Madrid as a jury member for a Fantasy Film Festival. As there was no sign of him, I went looking and we managed to coincide. He was overwhelmed with endless screenings, talks etc. I spent an afternoon with him and then didn’t see him again, but we were very happy to meet up, and he seemed to be on great form.
I finished an action film last Saturday, co-produced by the Americans and in 3D for a change. Before that I was in La colmena by Camilo José Cela. There are not many films, or many good films, being made in Spain. It’s all dominated by the multinationals, but I get by, and with the children provided for and financially independent Asunción and I have no real problems. I’ve just been asked to do a stage production of King Lear and I think I’ll take it. It would be on at open-air theatres around Spain in summer and then, from October, in Madrid.
My daughter Teresa is having great success with a children’s musical and they’ve bought a huge marquee for 2,000 people that they can put up wherever they like, in local squares or parks all over the place, and it’s making a lot of money. She’s going to make a film now, splitting the finance with a distributor. She didn’t have children and adopted a new-born baby, who’s now two. My son Benito is still working as an assistant director and hoping to be able to direct independently soon, he has no shortage of work. From him, I have two other grandchildren: Paquito, seven years old, and a girl of nine months.
María Asunción is very well and very happy, because I’ve been leading a peaceful and austere life for a while now. That’s right, uncle, I very seldom go out at night, hardly ever drink, and my life is generally healthy, sensible and very calm. I’m telling you this because I know you’ve sometimes worried about my other more ‘fun-loving’ life. Although reports on that were somewhat exaggerated…
Damián is still working as an actors’ agent, doing quite well. His health is also good, although he should stop smoking. I should too, of course, but I’m just the same in that respect, smoking away.
So, uncle, I’ve told you, broadly-speaking, my most important news, so you are not missing out, and although I know you are now a reluctant letter-writer, I would be very pleased to get a few lines with your news and news of Aunt Juana, to whom I send much love.
With love from Asunción and my lot, and a big hug from your nephew, Paco

Day 7 of ZevWarden Week 2020: #RelationshipGoals - The Future
Neither Zevran nor Nelka expected anything resembling domesticity. But as their daughter plays with Barkspawn outside of Vigil’s Keep while they plan their honeymoon, home finally feels like a place they deserve.
I’ve written about Zevran and Nelka’s adopted daughter here and here, in case anyone is interested in how she came to join their family or more shenanigans.
And a big thank you to @zevraholics for running this event!! It was a lot of fun and everyone created such amazing things!
“Charge!”
Nelka and Zevran stepped to the side just in time to avoid being trampled over. Their young daughter, Iona, sat atop Barkspawn and wielded a blunted training spear. It wasn’t the first time she’d attempted to joust any passerby in Vigil’s Keep, and it surely wouldn’t be the last.
Barkspawn skidded to a halt and turned back to Nelka, who always made time to give her war dog pets and snuggles, even if Iona was now the most beneficent distributor of such affection.
“No fair.” Iona pouted. “You moved! That’s against the rules of a joust.”
Nelka smiled and sighed, then addressed her daughter. “Iona, sweetie, what did we say about jousting on Barkspawn?”
Her petulant attitude faded into an apologetic gaze. “To do it outside. Sorry, Mom. I’m going to ride him outside now, okay?”
“Sounds good. Be sure to say hi to Uncle Oghren while you’re out there!”
Now, Iona grinned as she lifted aloft her lance. “Yeah! Charge, Barkspawn, to victory!”
Barkspawn trotted slowly out of the hall while Zevran and Nelka watched Iona ride into the courtyard, before turning to each other, shaking their heads, and laughing.
“Are you sure she’s going to be alright while we’re on our honeymoon?” Zevran asked.
“I think she’ll be just fine.” Nelka gestured to a window, outside of which Iona charged at Oghren with the blunted spear and ran it straight into his chest. When he stumbled to the ground, Barkspawn dutifully walked over to him and licked his face with all the drool a dog could muster, and Iona cheered atop her loyal steed.
Zevran chuckled again. “I know she’ll be fine. But, still. Not that I’m not looking forward to some time alone with you…” He tugged on Nelka’s hips and pulled her right up against him.
“I’ve been so busy lately,” she remarked morosely as they turned to watch their daughter play in the courtyard again, arms still around each other’s waists. “They just keep giving me more responsibility, for some reason,” she added with a small, knowing smile.
“Ah, yes, why would anyone look up to the Hero of Ferelden, savior of the known world?” Zevran teased.
“You of all people know that it was a team effort.”
“Perhaps. But you were still our fearless leader.”
“Yeah, I guess. The point is, I’m really looking forward to a break. But whether that break is with just you, or with our daughter as well, both options sound amazing. Usually one doesn’t go on their honeymoon with their child along, for obvious reasons, but that doesn’t mean anything. It can be a family vacation. We both hate leaving Iona behind whenever we have to go on a mission.”
Zevran pondered for a few moments. “What do you say, mi amor, that we take a small portion of our honeymoon just for ourselves, and then spend the rest of the time taking Iona to Antiva? To show her where her father comes from? Get her out of the Keep for a while.”
“I think that sounds like an amazing idea,” Nelka replied, then leaned up to give Zevran a quick kiss. “You know we’re going to have to bring Barkspawn too, right? There’s no way she’ll leave that dog behind.”
“I suppose that will be fine,” Zevran said flatly. He and Barkspawn had never particularly cared for the other, but he would do anything for Iona, even if that meant travelling in the hold of a ship with a smelly mabari for a few weeks.
Before either could say anything more, the door creaked open and wet footsteps sounded in the hall.
“Mom? Dad?”
Nelka and Zevran turned to see Iona and Barkspawn stepping trepidatiously into the foyer of Vigil’s Keep, both covered head to toe in mud.
“Oh dear,” Zevran muttered.
“You know,” Nelka remarked, “we may want to rethink that whole ‘only ride Barkspawn outside’ thing.”
“I’ll get our daughter cleaned up. You have to deal with the dog.” Zevran grinned at Nelka before taking Iona by the hand and leading her away, a trail of muddy footprints following their path.
Nelka stood before Barkspawn and watched them go, then looked down at her dog and played with his ears affectionately. “That’s a good puppen, aren’t you? Aren’t you the bestest Barkspawn?” She cooed, and Barkspawn barked his approval. “Let’s go get you cleaned up outside. And no, you may not trample Oghren on the way.”
With a whimper, Barkspawn and Nelka headed outside of Vigil’s Keep. It was a strange life, but it was home, and Nelka wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Blu-ray Review: Forgotten Gialli: Volume 1
One of the most reliable distributors when it comes to unearthing obscure genre films, Vinegar Syndrome has released Forgotten Gialli: Volume One, a Blu-ray box set containing a trio of giallo - or, European murder-mysteries - that have never received distribution in the U.S.: 1973's The Killer Is One of 13, 1975's The Police Are Blundering in the Dark, and 1978's Trauma.

The Killer Is One of 13 is a Spanish giallo by way of Agatha Christie. Lisa Mandel (Patty Shepard, Slugs) invites a collection of acquaintances to her elegant, isolated home for reasons unknown to the guests. As she reveals over dinner, it's the second anniversary of her husband's mysterious passing, so she has gathered 13 people who may have benefited from his death, convinced one of them is responsible.
Despite the very specific title, there are more than 13 suspects when you factor in everyone; from guests to family members to the help. Director/co-writer Javier Aguirre (Count Dracula’s Great Love) and co-writer Alberto S. Insúa (Count Dracula’s Great Love) do an admirable job painting each character as a potential culprit, as everyone has both motives and flaws. However, as is often the case with ensemble murder-mysteries, it's difficult to keep track of the ancillary characters, some of whom are barely developed.
Far more restrained than its Italian brethren, the film's pacing is rather uneven. It's heavy on exposition throughout the first two acts, but the intriguing mystery drives it until the murders begin. That doesn't occur until 63 minutes into the 95-minute film, leading to an unrelenting, if rushed, final act. The big reveal isn't all that surprising if you pay attention to the clues, but it's not dissatisfying.

Cinematographer Francisco Fraile's (Dr. Jekyll vs. The Werewolf) ambitious camerawork - almost always roving or zooming - provides a kineticism to offset the long stretches of dialogue, even if focus is occasionally soft. A propulsive soundtrack would have helped further, but instead Alfonso Santisteban's (The Mummy’s Revenge) score is often hokey.
In addition to Shepard, the cast features several faces that may be familiar to Eurocult enthusiasts. Spanish character actor Simón Andreu (Beyond Re-Animator) plays a smug playboy; American expat Jack Taylor (The Ninth Gate) plays as an unappreciated artist; Spanish cinema royalty Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) has an early role as the wife of an unstable older man; and Spanish horror legend Paul Naschy (The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman) has a small part as the chauffeur.
The Killer Is One of 13 has been newly restored in 2K from its 35mm original negative. The disc includes an audio commentary by film critic and Diabolique magazine editor-in-chief Kat Ellinger. Since information on the production is scarce, she contextualizes the film relative to the giallo subgenre, making for an interesting listen.

The Police Are Blundering in the Dark’s title is more interesting than the movie itself, as it seems director Helia Colombo (this being his sole credit) was blundering in the dark during the making of his Italian giallo. The cold open could be mistaken for a cliched '80s slasher: an attractive woman gets a flat tire and is chased by a killer through the woods, during which her blouse inexplicably opens as she runs, exposing her breasts before she's caught and stabbed with a pair of scissors.
It clocks in at a scant 87 minutes - rather brief by giallo standards - yet feels drawn out. The aforementioned woman is the latest in a string of murder victims, all of whom served as models for an impotent, wheelchair-bound photographer, Parisi. Giorgio D'Amato (Joseph Arkim), the journalist boyfriend of one of the victims, heads to Parisi's villa outside of Rome to investigate, learning that the photographer has invented a camera that captures its subjects' thoughts. This unexpectedly fantastical plot point is harnessed to solve the mystery a la Four Flies on Grey Velvet.

Despite being the most traditional giallo film of the trio included in the set, the picture fails to deliver on any of the pillars of the subgenre. After setting up a middling mystery, the midsection is bogged down by talky melodrama, while the eventual solution is preposterous. Beyond that, the kills are tame, Giancarlo Pancaldi's cinematography is pedestrian, and Aldo Saitto's score is forgettable.
The Police Are Blundering has been newly restored in 2K from its 35mm original negative. In lieu of an audio commentary, film historian and critic Rachael Nisbet provides a “historical audio essay.” It is exactly that; a breathless 16-minute amalgam of facts and critical analysis. It's thorough if dry, akin to reading a well-researched Wikipedia entry. A promotional image gallery is also included.

Not to be confused with Dario Argento's later giallo of the same name, Trauma is a Spanish giallo riff on Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. It centers on Veronica (Ágata Lys, The Holy Innocents), who runs a quaint inn in rural Spain while caring for her unseen, handicapped husband. She's smitten with Daniel (Heinrich Starhemberg), a mysterious and charming author that checks in, to the point where she becomes visibly annoyed when other guests interrupt their flirting.
Director León Klimovsky (The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman) and writers Juan José Porto (Cross of the Devil) and Carlos Puerto (Satan's Blood) position the film as a mystery, but when a black-gloved assailant begins murdering the guests with a straight razor, the options for the killer's identity are quite limited.
The film is rather slow moving yet sleazy. Nearly every character, regardless of gender, sheds their clothing at some point. Cinematographer Pablo Ripoll (Tombs of the Blind Dead) captures it all with voyeuristic delight. Composer Ángel Arteaga (Frankenstein's Bloody Terror) crafted a Goblin-esque main title theme.
Starhemberg's position as executive producer of the film surely influenced the decision to (mis)cast him as the male lead. Beyond lacking chemistry with Lys, there are some unintentionally uncomfortable scenes in which he caresses a local boy. Antonio Mayans (Zombie Lake) plays an ill-fated hiker who takes refuge at the inn.

Trauma has been newly restored in 2K from its 35mm original negative. The disc includes an audio commentary by film historian Troy Howarth, who previously profiled the film in his 2019 book, So Deadly, So Perverse: Volume Three. Per usual, he takes a conversational approach to the track, which occasionally leads to tangents but ultimately provides a detailed analysis that digs into the history of giallo films.
Each of the discs is housed in its own Blu-ray case, and all three are packaged together in a box designed by Earl Kessler Jr. Limited to 5,000 units, it's available exclusively from Vinegar Syndrome. Having never been dubbed into English, the movies feature newly translated English subtitles to accompany the fresh scans.
A precursor to the slasher boom in the 1980s, the success of the giallo subgenre spawned a wide breadth of films, ranging from oft-discussed staples to hidden gems that barely saw a release beyond their theatrical debuts. With Forgotten Gialli, Vinegar Syndrome has breathed new life into three movies that fall squarely into the latter category. As it is subtitled Volume 1, I can only hope that more sets come to fruition.
Forgotten Gialli: Volume One is available now via Vinegar Syndrome.

The Different Types of Child Safety Locks for Doors
If you’re curious about the best way to babyproof or childproof your home, you might find that blocking access to certain rooms – or even keeping exterior doors locked – is an important step. There are many different kinds of child safety locks for interior and exterior doors, but they certainly aren’t all created equally. Here are the most popular child door locks and how they work.
Doorknob Covers
Doorknob covers are the most inexpensive option out there for denying access to specific rooms. Though they are affordable, they aren’t quite as effective as any of the other options on the list. These are plastic covers that come in two halves and snap together over the doorknob so that small hands can’t turn the knob, and while they might work well for small children, that’s where their effectiveness ends. There are numerous instances of children as young as 18 months old prying the doorknob cover off just minutes after its installation. What’s more, it’s worth noting that adults even struggle to open doors with these covers in place.
Deadbolts
Deadbolts have been one of the most popular ways to childproof certain interior and exterior doors for decades. They do their jobs very well, they are sturdy, and they can be installed high enough so that children cannot access them to unlock them. The main problem with deadbolts is their lack of convenience, particularly inside the home. Imagine carrying a ring of keys around with you just to put the groceries away or clean the house. It’s a pain that many parents and caregivers aren’t prepared to deal with.
Keyed Entry Knobs
Keyed entry doorknobs (most commonly used for exterior doors) can be installed on interior doors, as well. These doorknobs work just like your front door in that they require a key to enter the room once the door is locked. However, like deadbolts, there are convenience issues when it comes to carrying a set of keys around between rooms, and there’s always that fear that you may lock yourself out of specific rooms of your home – or even worse, lock your child in with the keys.
Kidz Lock Magnetic Child Safety Lock
None of the aforementioned child safety door lock options are perfect, and they each have their own unique set of disadvantages, but the Kidz Lock child door lock system solves each of these problems. It’s a keyless system that can be installed on interior and exterior doors alike, and thanks to its unique design, it gives adults quick access to the various rooms in their homes (including their exterior doors) while safely barring access to children. Kidz Lock is easy to install and even easier to use, which is why parents and caregivers across the country rave about it.
If keeping children safe is a priority for you but you aren’t sure which child safety lock to purchase and install, it’s always a good idea to choose a keyless system that was designed to be easy to operate, sturdy, and safe. Kidz Lock child safety locks offer all the advantages that the other options don’t, which makes it a popular alternative.
About Kidz Lock Kidz Lock is the name behind a unique and effective child safety lock system that works well with interior and exterior doors, including sliding glass doors. The company is headquartered in Farmington, MI and its product is sold nationwide in retail stores, by distributors, on their own website, and on Amazon. Kidz Lock prides itself on fast delivery, unique products, and simple installation and operation. For more information please visit https://www.kidzlock.com.

Please I was told by a wise and learned being to come here and ask about Crystal’s retirement vineyard do his wines have comedy names or does he become obsessed with terroir and mis en bouteille à la propriété and does Roger write Heaven for Everyone sitting in a deckchair among the grapes barefoot guitar in hand and a glass of Beaujolais nouveau at his side?
our story begins in the 90s
crystal refuses to be roger’s roadie after the mess that was the 80s
hes like babe, we’ve both nearly died like 100 times i’m retiring and i want a vineyard
more for like the ~aesthetic~ not to like actual work??
like the appeal of it is that he can just have hundreds of acres and no fucking neighbors and they can definitely skinny dip without anyone taking pictures
so they buy a shambolic shitty vineyard
its BARELY even a vineyard like maybe??? once??? a hundred years ago???? it could pass
but not now
anyways
crystal is like okay time to start my retirement sleeping in and doing Absolutely Nothing
but roger is like NO
WE MUST TILL THE SOIL
AND CHECK THE PH
WHAT IS THE WEATHER PREDICTION WE DON’T WANT TO RUIN THE HARVEST
and crystal’s like....my dude...we have like three vines
roger: AND I WANT THREE VINES WORTH OF PRODUCTION
crystal literally??? just wanted??? to chill out in the south of france??? on a veranda????
retire in sTyLe
maybe get a reputation for having like a haunted vineyard with the local kids
but noooooooooo
roger doesn’t want a dead vineyard
roger wants a fucking fully productive vineyard
with farm hands
and a cellar for their vintages cuz he’s THAT BITCH
he took a perfectly good retirement vineyard and turned it into a job
he ruined retirement
its like that movie with diane sawyer where she gets a baby and makes applesauce
only roger
anyways
crystal bitches about it to EVERYONE
(but like, when roger’s off swanning around the world being a rockstar while crystals out in the fields at 3am putting a tarp up because an unexpected summer storm is coming)
crystal is FURIOUS
like he was done working!!! DONE!! and then fucking roger had to go and make a fucking vineyard and now they have a meeting with a distributor tomorrow at 9am
also crystal definitely makes SO MANY cutting remarks about roger being an "aging rockstar" in full hearing of the press
like he doesn’t say SHIT about freddie or john
(just sort of looks disdainfully at brian a lot)
but roger? oh
he'll loudly talk about how embarrassing it is for someone AT THE AGE OF 48 to be TOUTING AROUND like he's still TWENTY FIVE
roger: you want me to quit
crystal: god no. then you'd be at home all the time. can't be doing with all that.
roger on day one of coming home after a tour walking around critiquing the work (or lack there of) crystal did on the vineyard while he was touring
crystal: leave
(he has a tour countdown. it’s specially made)
(its an advent calendar but for tour. everymorning he gets a little piece of chocolate for putting up with roger)
(on sundays it’s a shot of alcohol cuz lord knows he needs a drink)
Roger keeps bothering crystal about the design for the label so crystal has to call up Freddie and be like pick up your boyfriend he’s annoying me
it is a mystery to any and every one how the fuck they work
They end up being hella successful but if you ask roger they’re constantly on the edge of the whole thing collapsing into ruin
roger somehow manages to get john to manage the finacial side
no one quite knows how he did it?? not even crystal???
but if you ask john he just looks pissed off and tells you not to mention it
roger just looks smug
(roger has NO IDEA how it work all he knows is one day john showed up with a brief case and was like SHOW ME YOUR FINANCIALS!!!)
Crystal is that cheap bastard who gives people bottles of wine for Christmas or their birthday
And it’s very clear that he just grabbed one and slapped a bow on it
Crystal, handing a bottle of merlot off to 12 year old Robbie: happy birthday
Robbie, confused: I don’t know what to do with this
Crystal: Jesus you are not your fathers son. Go get me the corkscrew and then come back I’ll show you want to do with it
Veronica: do not give my 12 year old wine Christopher we’ve discussed this
BUT YEAH
their biggest fight EVER stems from roger catching crystal in the vineyard eating the grapes
like
roger leaves
like he LEAVES
it almost breaks up the vineyard over The Incident and crystal’s lack of appreciation for The Wine
and crystal is like fucking morose
like eating his way through his advent calendar
john rocks up with ratty and is like..... jesus christ, man
crystal's just laying in the kitchen covered in chocolate and whiskey in his boxers
(BECAUSE HE CAN’T DRINK THEIR WINE WITHOUT ROGER OKAY HE CAN’T ITS THEIR WINE)
with a little timer set for when it's reticulation time for the grapes
(because roger might be gone but crystal sure as shit ain’t gonna kill the grapes)
roger’s hanging out with veronica and dominique bitching about how crystal doesn’t appreciate him
wearing a face mask drinking rose
roger: and then I caught him eATING THE BORDEAUX GRAPES!!
Ronnie: NO!!
Dominique: oh my god roger I’m so sorry
roger: the vineyard is a METAPHOR for our RELATIONSHIP and he was EATING IT
john, squinting across the table at a very drunk and morose crystal: do...you ate...some grapes?
crystal: ya
john:....did they taste good?
crystal, sobbing: NO
johns like just go to the store and buy more grapes!!
crystal: its a METAPHOR john
john: ......... for what?
crystal: I DONT KNOW
crystal is like he’s always loved the grapes more than me!! Always!!
john on the phone to veronica like "yeah idk he says its a metaphor but idk what???"
veronica like "you're a fucking heathen, john. dont call here again."
crystal totally wins roger back with a bottle of wine
turns out he’s kept their first bottle??
had it tucked away and was gonna save it for something special
slash as a reminder like we did this we made this??
and he sends it to roger and roger is so fucking touched
roger comes back to the vineyard totally expecting the whole place to be ruined and the grapes to be dead (OR EATEN)
instead its running perfectly?? like it used to???
and crystal is there looking like dennis quaid in the parent trap
(its totally raining outside)
and he takes a deep breath and looks into roger’s eyes and is like:
the grapes are a metaphor for our love because we have to tend to them in order to make something great
(roger is like you fucking poet nugget you sappy shit that’s not it at all but you’re TRYING)
and then they fuck in the vineyard
the end
(ps when they open the first bottle to drink it tastes like SHIT like they had no idea what they were doing its straight up fucking vinegar but crystal chokes down a glass because he wants to prove to roger that he VALUES him and their work)
(roger watches him drink it and doesn’t say a word because like, crystal ate the fucking grapes!! he ate them!!! repent for your sins!!!!!!!!!!)
