Fuck actually if you want, just have the strawhats fight Urouges crew at Ukkari, the place where Gedatsu landed when he fell through the clouds.

Have the priests fail to convince Gedatsu to rejoin them, so they attack Goro and threaten to destroy his hot spring, Urouge chastises them for this but then the strawhats begin to fight Urouges crew, inadvertently getting him and the rest involved.

Then because of this, Gedatsu goes to fight once Goro is conscious.

This makes Gedatsu a temporary ally of the strawhats whilst they’re in Ukkari and he helps take down a few grunts the same way Hachi does when he’s kidnapped by Duval, also have him try and fight Urouge but he’s swiftly dealt with before Luffy steps up to fight.
