Not quite ready, it seemed. He sat at the table, watching her play with little tools and scraps that he had lying around. It was...interesting to watch, to say the least. Most her age--what was she, still 6? Nearly 7?--would not have the intuition to make anything out of what she was given. Perhaps they would bang them together for a few seconds, maybe get a piece to fit, before ultimately getting bored and moving onto something else.

This made it at least easier for him. Easier in some ways, more problematic in others. He could think of ways this could prove aggravating. To be able to take apart a lock was one step to being able to unlock the doors in the labs.

He would hope that a child had a limit, but he was a child once as well...He knew well that given the possibility, one could figure it out. Evidence was enough with other 'child prodigies.' Not just himself.

Still, he wouldn't deter it too much, after all he did want her to be comfortable. It made it easier for her to trust him. While she was conscious, they weren't doing anything terrible to her. They were treating her well.

All a guise, a gilded cage...but that gilded cage was oh so important to keep and to build. Eventually those walls would have no way to slip out, even when the paint began to peel.

He hummed, an immediate response, however minimal, when amber eyes shifted to look at him, then back down at the pieces. What was she even building? There was intention behind it, but he couldn't...quite tell yet, perhaps she didn't even know yet.

" what are you making? "

He leaned just a little closer, he'd learned going behind her had a higher chance of startling her. Really, like a skittish fletchinder, he could see that she took on more than just being raised by them. He waited patiently as she fiddled a little more, averting her gaze, not looking.

A moment longer, he relaxed a little more, less formal. He had learned very quickly that talking too much just caused her to ignore him completely. They were working on the revival of a friend for her to be around as well. Not including the klefki that would be with her soon...

" 'm makin' a puzzle. "

Puzzle. He tilted his head--physical gestures, more acted out yet with meaning. Those helped as well. Though he was rather puzzled himself, at how what she was making was that. He looked down a little more, squinting his eyes. Watching as she shuffled then clicked a part on the side, there was a moment, before it lit up. Silva then reached for a little steel ball and dropped it in, then she held it up to him to take.

Ah. He saw now.

Rather gently, he took it in his hands, it was really a simple one, a maze. Get the steel ball out of the maze. Though rather than the maze walls being stationary, they would occasionally move, shift and turn. A changing maze. It was cute. It only took about a minute for him to get the ball out, but he could certainly see it causing most to be puzzled.

" wonderful. "

He murmured, before setting it back down in front of her. It was certainly a way to occupy her, he would let Xerosic and Celosia know. Both would need to know ways to deal with her when they were in the labs. Far away from the 'comfort' of the outside, he wanted to make so that she liked the labs, perhaps more than anywhere else. As unlikely as that was.

" how about...i help you make the next one, hm? "

Lysandre waited, watching her twist it around--win faster than him--then turn to look up at him. Eyes so curious yet so...he couldn't put his finger on it, it was hard to tell what she was thinking. It was to the point that he was sure that she might get up and walk away--she had done it a couple of times before--but instead she got up...then walked over and plopped down right back onto his lap.

Well. Seemed she accepted his offer.

A Great Dane gifted to Damian from Bruce as an effort in fatherhood. Funny enough, Damian finds him a nuisance at first and briefly refers to him as "Dog". Titus is a good boy that follows Damian's every step, even joining Bruce on his mission to resurrect Damian!

BAT-COW THE COW

Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #1

Bat-Cow, branded with a star signifying which cattle were contaminated, was saved from a slaughterhouse to run some tests (which they do find of a mind control variety). Damian declares himself a vegetarian, and calls her Bat-Cow! She also sorta has a running gag of literally standing in the face of danger to save the day.

ALFRED THE CAT

Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #6

Considered a "hopeless case" by the animal shelter, Alfred gifts him to Damian. The cat is a bold lil guy, which Damian takes an immediate liking to, and names him Alfred (likely because tuxedo cat = butler lol). After hours of chicken, playtime, and scratches, Damian and Alfred become friends! He makes his first appearance alongside Damian’s first appearance as Batman in BATMAN (1940) #666

*WIGGLES THE DRAGON

A sort of filler issue where Damian has been kidnapped for his blood by the "Crimson Kabuki" in Tokyo, and Dick goes through a series of boss battles to save him. The dragon's blood has been the group's main source of power, so it ends up teaming with the duo, and returns home with them.

Wiggles was originally named by a fan, "Shanootnoot" on Twitter!

*Goliath, Titus, Bat-Cow, and Alfred the cat have been Damian's main canon cast of furry companions, but SUPER-PETS SPECIAL: BITEDENTITY CRISIS (2024) may have just added Jerry and Wiggles!!
