Fresh out of my watch of Earthspark, here’s some of my initial thoughts: Spoilers Incoming!

Right off the bat I fucking loved Megatron. His introduction was wonderful, I loved his interactions with the con’s and with the baby Terrans. The scene where Soundwave called him a traitor, and you could see how it fucking cut Megatron to his core? Devastating! I loved it. And then earlier in the same episode when Megs was fighting with Optimus about GHOST’s treatment of the imprisoned Decepticons, I liked how it set up the potential for an arc where Optimus is in the wrong. I’m not sure if this is the direction the show is going, but it seems to me they’re laying the groundwork for GHOST going full shady government and for Optimus to continue to side with them for the sake of an uneasy peace. It might be a stretch with the demographic Earthspark is aimed for, but with Megatron being a protagonist and having precedence for being the conscious of the duo (when he convinced Optimus to let the cassettes go free), they might have the balls to do it, and I’m fucking excited!! I’d love to see vigilante Megatron, and with the amount of new characters and returning con’s running around, I think there’s wonderful potential for team ups.

Tonally, I’m expecting a shift for episodes coming forward. Not a crazy one, but it seems this first round was setting up expectations for the show. It’s very cute, they had wonderful family dynamics, and I loved the Malto’s mixed family paralleling how the Terran’s were split between Cybertronian and earth culture. Speaking of which, the Malto’s have my whole heart. Mo and Dorothy are my favorite of the four, I’m very excited we can add Mo to the growing collection of weird transformers girls alongside Miko and Sari. Dot’s a fucking badass, her friendship with Megatron was a highlight of the show. When the focus changed to her, the tone became more serious and I wish we spent more time with her and Megs, but I’m sure we will going forward.

As we get more episodes, I’m sure Earthspark is going to be more story driven, but not to a crazy degree. Well, maybe they will go ham with story. Did you see the amount of story thread’s they’ve laid down?

Dr. Meridian (might be able to do mind control based episode 1? Also wonderful body horror potential?)

I’m sure I’m missing a few, but even with this list we have some awesome potential… I’m just so excited for what Earthspark is bringing to the table! I’m hoping they lean into more action going forward, as they do fucking great things in motion, and I hope we see more interactions with Cybertronians from now on. I love Twitch and Thrash, but I feel like the show is at it’s weakest when Bumblebee is on alone on screen with them. It lacks some of the depth the other characters have, and I know Bee cares about them a lot, but Twitch especially excels when she’s with other Cybertronians, like Megatron or Wheeljack. I’m hoping we see a lot more of the cast interacting as the show goes on! They have some exciting potential and a lot of fun dynamics to explore!!

Shelby bestie, here we go. My first official essay of SITN

First off…those poor bats. They’ve finally relaxed after her return and then Bruce comes roaring in. How inconsiderate of them to not let these bats rest. If I was a bat I’d be pissed.

I know Bruce said that he could hear her nervously chewing, but I feel like he just knew that she’s nervous. Hell, he probably knew she was nervous before even arriving in the Batcave. Bruce has spent a lot of time studying her. He definitely knows what she’s feeling before she does sometimes. Love is funny like that.

Also fun fact—There are some studies that show the longer a couple has been together the more they begin to act like each other. Idk if shared trauma, like these two have, makes the process faster or some shit. Either way, poor Alfred.

I love that she dubbed his playlist “moody writing.” I wonder if he knows that. If he does he definitely have a small chuckle while affectionately rolling his eyes. It makes sense that part of the process to becoming Bruce again is engaging in things that shape a person—like music. I love her commentary while watching his night back. “You’re so dramatic.” Girl, you’ve got that right.

The news casting. Oofta. Her and Bruce were definitely not expecting it to mention his parents. I love that they reacted in the same way—them both freezing (chefs kiss). They were both thinking about different things. I imagine she was feeling anger (for bringing up Bruce’s tragedy) and concern for Bruce. Bruce…in this situation it’s hard for me to get into his mind. He’s thinking and feeling a million different things at once. I’d imagine it’s hard for him to pinpoint any single emotion, feeling, or thought.

I just feel for Bruce. He’s definitely going through retraumaization at the mention of his parents on the news—and he definitely went through it earlier at night with the mention of the son discovering his father, and then with him seeing the son himself. I just wanna wrap him up in a nice fuzzy blanket and protect him.

Side note—people being retraumatized because of media coverage is something I’m incredibly interested in learning more about.

Alfred! My man! I love him and his little juice. I know he feels bad about not bringing her juice. I can feel it in my bones. I love the description of her looking at the juice suspiciously. I too sometimes look at food and beverages suspiciously.

I love that she’s trying to lighten Bruce’s mood while they’re going through the footage after the mention of his parents. It may have gotten him out of his head a for a bit, the comment of “nerd” and I’m sure he appreciates that.

Skipping a bit ahead to another classic Alfred and Bruce fight. Them fighting just breaks my heart. With Alfred’s comment to Bruce of it “not being long until he has nothing left” I feel like he was, in a way, thinking about her. Alfred knows she loves Bruce and is in it for the long haul, but he’s seen what her not being in his life temporarily did to him. He doesn’t want to risk that happening again—in any way—like her leaving. Which Alfred knows she would never do. Also him being like “I don’t care what happens to me.” Bruce, my guy, you little fucker, you gotta start caring. You’re getting married. You really want to make her a widow? I love the small interaction her and Alfred had after Bruce left. She’s trying to look out for Alfred by making sure Bruce apologizes and I love that.

Skipping ahead again because I took a sleeping pill that’s kicking in. Bruce standing up for her against Wayne Enterprises? Chefs kiss! I know Alfred, in his head, was being like “you tell them Bruce! Stand up for your girl!” While simultaneously panicking because “Bruce wtf are you doing? That’s impolite!” Bruce knows she’s not with him for his money, but these morons don’t. I love that Bruce just wants to give her Wayne Enterprises. Chefs kiss! A small part of it is because he doesn’t care about it, and he doesn’t want to deal with it. A much larger part trusts her with it more than he trusts himself. He knows his family’s enterprise would be in good, trusted, safe hands with her.  I love that Bruce wants to spite them. I too, try to do things out of spite.

The ending scene? CHEFS KISS! I love that he’s like “you need to sleep.” That’s definitely the pot calling the kettle black. She knows it, and he definitely knows it. I’m glad he agrees to also get some sleep. I wonder what she would’ve threatened him with if he was like “nah, I’ll stay awake.”

Do I have any predications? Not currently unfortunately. Maybe I’ll dream some up. If I do I’ll drop an ask and let you know.

Side notes: I feel like Alfred definitely knew she did not eat at the restaurant. I love that she went to bed after drinking coffee. Sometimes I nap for hours after drinking it, and I’m like “I got you to wake me up a bit, not to put me to sleep.” I feel like I’ve mentioned that before but I can’t remember.

Chapter 3 was a delight and I’m glad I got to write an essay for it. It feels weird writing an essay again. Much love!

also I start my new job on Sunday!!!!

Finally answering this (after posting the next chapter OOPS)

First, how has the new job been?? You've been there almost a week! I know you said you were familiar with things already so that's good! Are you getting enough sleep or still pounding the caffeine?

Yeah the poor bats though....They really need to relocate. I'm sure Bruce alone puts them through it, nevermind everything the reader and Alfred do too.

Also, as someone who has been with their significant other for almost twelve years, we 100% act like each other. Sometimes we joke that we groomed each other (even though we're the same age, it's funnier in context than it sounds I swear) because we're so similar! So of course Bruce and y/n are spending tons of time together now that they're actually together and they can pick up on each other's moods etc way better! Even poor, emotionally stunted Bruce can!

You're right though, the idea of media coverage and trauma would be such an interesting study. Someone needs to do this!

But yes, the whole movie to me is about Bruce having his past drudged up and being re-traumatized and spiralling out of control. So obviously, I'm trying to play to that angle along with the added trauma of the events of MOTN!

Alfred. My guy. Poor Alfred and his rejected juice just trying to do the right thing by Bruce! I had to make her say something, because Bruce was being a dick--at least after MOTN he's in a bit of a healthier headspace than he canonically is in the actual movie! So I had to include a little scene where he admits to being wrong!

The meeting with the accountants was immediately something I wanted to include when I decided to do the sequel. In my mind I was like, what would make the accountants in my MOTN universe freak out? Naturally, the idea of a prenup, protecting the comapny and its shares, etc came to mind. As someone who also does things out of spite (if you ever tell me to stop something I'll do it at least once more out of spite), this scene wasn't really hard! It felt natural to have Bruce be 1) self-sacrificial in a way with his money/ company and 2) looking for a fight over y/n

I loved seeing the essay format again!! But I definitely understand if I don't get anymore, you're busier now! So don't feel any pressure to send them!

Chapter 24. The best thing that’s happened ever in my life. Other than chapter 23 and chapter 22 and the other chapters before that.

ANYWAYS (non aggressively, in a fun, I’m excited way) let’s get into it. Bruce getting mad at Alfred? We hate to see it. Alfred getting feisty in his old age? Oofta. I love the way they interacted with each other here. It shows their differences. The only time we’ve ever seen Bruce get really violent is when she is in danger. It’s very interesting he didn’t reach that same level of violence when it came to Alfred. After all, Alfred raised him. I do imagine some part of Bruce perhaps knew he shouldn’t absolutely beat the shit out of the guys because he’s Bruce. His home got broken into. There’s no masking who he is—the level of violence he’s capable of. I also think Bruce, on some level, is concerned about the after effects of Alfred killing people. How it’s going to impact his life. He doesn’t want Alfred to have to deal with knowing he killed someone.

Alfred doesn’t need to mask that. He’s not running around in a party city costume (affectionately) beating thugs at night. Alfred’s reasoning for killing makes a lot of since. He already almost lost Bruce, and he doesn’t want to risk that happening again. Alfred would be absolutely destroyed if Bruce died. He’s known him since he was born. It would be so hard to get through. The poor man wouldn’t know what to do with himself. He’s also protecting her. Imagine if he wouldn’t have killed those two men? How much that would’ve changed things? How much danger they all would’ve been in? They were coming for her. Alfred loves her. Like Bruce, he wants to protect her. He also wants to protect his home. His life.

I love the scene with Bruce and her after he leaves Alfred to put on a shirt. She knows he tore his stitches, and she just wants to help. She just wants to heal. When she tore back the bandage, and looked over her shoulder I imagine that Bruce was trying to think of anything other than her and her actions. If he thinks about how soft, gentle, good, and loving she is, he feels like he’ll explode (in a good way). When Bruce grabbed her hand when she was inspecting his wound I was like “oh he likes this.” He likes being touched by her. He doesn’t want to like it. It makes him want her, and he doesn’t want to want her. It’s easier when he thinks he doesn’t care about people. It makes him less vulnerable, less likely to get hurt. To him, it makes the people he cares about less likely to get hurt. Even though that’s not realistic. It’s not how life works.

When Bruce told her she hadn’t hurt him, I’m sure she felt confused. She thought she had permission to make sure he’s okay. I love that even though Bruce is mad at Alfred he still wants to take care of him. Like her, Bruce’s love language is definitely acts of service. He wants to make sure he’s okay, and right the wrongs in anyway he can. Bruce was definitely gonna Frankenstein stitch himself back up. Thank god she snitched on him.

Bruce is a man that does not like being vulnerable. He wants to be seen as a strong force. Being hurt, having to get stitched up again for the same stab wound opposes that. He doesn’t want people to worry about him. He’s not worth worrying about. (Bruce, my man, try therapy).

Alfred stitching Bruce, but her putting the bandage on him is absolutely perfect. Her line of them being in the same position multiple times has me soft. I love the trope of people taking care of each other’s wounds. It makes me soft. When she traced the scar of the scar from the first time she did that and Bruce told her not to. Her apology, him saying “just—whenever you touch me” I thought my boy Bruce was about to be vulnerable. Admit something, his feelings, anything! But he didn’t. He definitely wanted to kiss her though. I feel like for him, kissing her would be easier than telling her. He’s a man of action, not words.

Gordon, my man. I loved his reaction to the screwdriver. He’s focused on the business at hand, and all of a sudden he’s like “why is there a screwdriver in a person?” Also, I feel like it says a lot about her that she left the screwdriver in. She’s always ready to go for the kill, and I feel like if she would’ve taken the screwdriver out she’d have a kill under her belt. I think she truly doesn’t want to kill anyone. She just wants to feel safe. Back to my man Gordon, I loved in when he was taking her statement. His “off the record, I got what you need. You didn’t get it from me.” I also love how flustered he seemed to get about her non-relationship with Bruce. I imagine him being like “please, I don’t want to know this stuff.” I imagine when his coworkers are having relationship problems that’s also his reaction.

Oof, I’m getting tired of typing. Will I wrap this up? We’ll see….

Bruce is definitely not a fan of how involved she is. We’ve known this, but now that she’s no longer at the Iceberg Lounge, now that her cover has been blown, Bruce wants her as far away as possible. To him, she has no reason to be involved now. She can stay out of danger (in theory) and stay safe. She’s not going to let that happen. Bruce’s “I’ll figure it out,” followed by her reminder of “we.” She’s involved in this, even if he doesn’t want her to be. I loved the banter they had. Her involvement being aggravating to Bruce, and Bruce’s lack of self preservation being aggravating to her. Also him almost kissing her after the banter because she mentioned Gordon’s comment about Batman being fond of her??? Chefs kiss! Alfred having terrible timing? Another chefs kiss! I love how he smiled at them knowingly. My guy, maybe peak into the room before announcing your presence.

I love that they made breakfast for everyone. And Bruce was like “what’s taking so long?” My guy, they are being nice hosts to the policeman in your home. Also I can absolutely picture Bruce practically shoving coffee at Gordon and almost spilling it. He’s not a fan of human interaction. By the way things are going in the manor, he’s had enough human interaction to last him the rest of the month. I also love that Gordon was so confused by Bruce offering him coffee. Poor Gordon, is probably wondering what he did wrong. Her affectionally making fun of him made me soft. Big fan. Another chefs kiss!

I love that she told Bruce she was meeting with Lena and not asking for permission. You tell him! Bruce is wondering where Alfred’s heart medication is because he needs some with her. He’s probably like “I have a lack of self preservation? Speak for yourself!” Also, not to have another Marie situation, but I don’t trust Lena. They way she doesn’t immediately give information makes me suspicious. Especially this chapter when she said “Listen, we just don’t…want any more dead girls.” I know we could mean the both of them, but she seems…off to me. There’s just something slightly off kilter about her. Something that rubs me the wrong way.

Okay, like here me out, she could be getting blackmailed? She has a kid so maybe she’s helping them to protect him? Like she’s the only girl in the Iceberg Lounge that was like “hey that Maxwell guy was with one of the girls that died. You should look out for him.” If she’s working with them in some capacity she’d know about her meetings with Batman. She’d know she was there when Marie died. She’d able to turn her onto Maxwell, so they could take her to get to Batman. Now you say “well they went out for coffee, why didn’t they just take her then?” Good question. I’ve got an answer. Number one, it’s day time and they are out in public. That is too many witnesses. Number two, the more she trusts Lena the more she puts her guard down around her. I’m probably wrong, but it’s a theory.

I wonder if Bruce is suspicious about her. He asked if she’s trustworthy. Granted, I feel like Bruce is suspicious of everyone. So maybe his suspicion is baseline. I love how she’s like “Lena is my last source unless I go back to the Iceberg Lounge.” I’m surprised Bruce let her even finish that sentence. Part of me feels like the only reason why he let her finish is because he was dumbstruck at first. Still, his absolute refusal to even entertain the idea says a lot. He’d rather have less information and make the situation potentially even more dangerous than even risk losing her because of that place again.

I love the last line of “good thing she knew a billionaire that could get them in.” Bruce absolutely wants to wrap this up before the gala. I can picture Bruce being so upset and sad that he has to go to a gala and interact with people. He’s dreading it. I imagine him being pouty about it. Also when they go together the rumors are going to fly! Love it!

Chapter 24 was absolutely fun. I love this story so much! I know I keep saying that, but it’s true. I hope you don’t think it’s redundant. Absolutely love and adore you!

***CH 24 SPOILERS***

First of all, love the "I'm tired of typing" but then proceeds to write twice as much energy going on here. Literally these essay length anons about each chapter make my heart explode with happiness!!! Also idk if anyone ever even reads my responses to these but I have a lot of fun discussing my own fic soooo I'll keep doing it 😂

Your character analysis is also so spot on to me! I really think this is always the heart of Bruce's anger--he's being protective and doesn't want Alfred to have to deal with what it means to kill someone. But poor bat boy doesn't actually know how to convey that so he just gets mad. And Alfred is getting mad in return because he was just protecting his family and doesn't see the problem with it.

Yes yes yes yes to everything about the scene with her touching him. She makes him feel so vulnerable, even with just a simple touch, that he feels like he's going to explode. Poor guy. His love language is def acts of service because look how he responds to physical touch 😂

And yes he 100% was going to struggle to stitch himself (like he probably always does) and is so aggravated she snitched 😂 I bet Alfred is living for it. He probably loves seeing Bruce forced into being vulnerable even in the simplest ways. In my mind Alfred has been trying to do this for years and then the reader comes and does in a few weeks/ months what he's been trying and failing at forever. Alfred loves her for that alone, probably (I say as if I can't decide to make that canon)

Gordon, like Alfred and the Batmobile, is stealing the show for me. Writing him is such a joy. Because it's so much fun having a person outside of all of this pointing out things that we just accept since we're in the thick of it 😂 we're not questioning her using a screwdriver because she's working with what she has, but Gordon realizes how ridiculous it is. And yes Gordon 100% is the type of person who is like "please keep that to yourself" and doesn't want any details. My headcanon is that since he's such a good guy and is level headed that people at work always bring their problems to his no matter what he does to try to discourage it.

And again poor Bruce, he doesn't want her involved but she is. Even if she wasn't she's the type who'd bully her way into anyways, just because she loves Bruce but also because she wants to do good.

And as I've said with other anons, Alfred is definitely aware of his mistake and is cursing at himself afterwards because he accidentally stopped the one thing he wants to happen. Poor Alfred!

Bruce is so confused by human interaction he's probably like "why are we feeding them" (and also, thank you, I loved making her tease him for his awkwardness!)

As usual I'm avoiding commenting and spoiling stuff 😅 I will say that I love seeing people's theories because it goes one of two ways for me: 1) I'm like oh shit I didn't think about that, better fill that plot hole somehow or 2) I giggle excitedly because my foreshadowing is working. I will not say which of these I'm currently experiencing though! But it's always one or the other with all theories 😂

I don't think it's redundant, because I love hearing how much you love me and my fic 😂😂 (am I a little narcissistic? Yes. Too bad)
