favorite 20th anniversary tour mark things: - throughout the entirety of the show, he’s so Done with everyone’s shit. like it’s beautiful, guys. he’s so sarcastic, especially when he has to deal with benny, though joanne and the audience get a lot thrown at them too. - i don’t know if this is true for every stage production of rent ----- i didn’t see this in the 2008 recording of it on broadway ----- but on “ how can you connect in an age where strangers, landlords, lovers, your own blood cells betray? ”, mark freezes and stares at roger for the entire line. - during you’ll see, benny puts one of his feet up on the table and mark stares at him for a solid ten seconds like “ um, the fuck you think you’re doing? ” it’s Beautiful. - in tango: maureen, he has to stand on his toes in order to put his head on joanne’s shoulder when he says “ has she every pouted her lips and called you pookie? ” - also in tango: maureen, he laughs on “ more than moon. ” - at the beginning of santa fe, mark tries to walk away but collins pulls him back and straightens his jacket. - benny puts his hands on mark’s shoulders on “ slackers ” in la vie boheme and he leans away from benny, looking very annoyed and disgusted. - the “ glass ” he raises is actually a water bottle, which he then slides across the table to a female company member. - after he sings the first “ la vie boheme, “ he starts walking back to his seat and looks really surprised when everyone else starts chanting it. then he smiles and, after a moment of thought, jumps onto the table and continues the song. - it’s kinda hard to tell, but i think he smacks a male member of the company on the ass at one point. - during halloween, he half-laughs on “ that’s poetic! ”, like he can’t believe he thought of something good, then immediately shuts down and goes “ that’s pathetic. ” - when mimi and roger start lunging at each other in the first half of goodbye love, mark puts himself inbetween them, continually tries to keep them apart, and ends up getting pushed around by them. - on “ mark lives for his work, “ roger grabs mark by his shirt and mark tenses up, almost like he’s bracing himself for a hit, then get pushed away instead. - when he says “ hey! for someone who’s always been let down, who’s heading out of town? ”, he’s crying. - on “ for someone who longs for a community of his own, who’s with his camera, alone? ”, roger gets all up in mark’s face and he flinches. - after roger says “ i’ll call, ” mark lifts a hand and it’s shaking.

bonus: - in your eyes, roger sings “ before this song dies " rather than “ the song ” and i immediately thought “ is mark the other song? ”
