“So, you’re gay?”

Sion nodded, trying to twist his expression into an apologetic smile. “I am.”

“So much for giving me hope,” the girl in front of him sighed. “I’m not talking about you. It’s just—there’s a running gossip in my class saying that you are single and not gay, so I’m just trying my shot here.”

Sion gave her a friendly chuckle, “unfortunately, I’m gay and I’m not single.”

This new information made the girl take a sharp breath. “Oh?”

“Yeah,” Sion grinned. He tilted his head, pointing to the directions where the finger foods were set. “He’s there.”

Someone caught Sion’s eyes and waved lightly before he went back choosing the snacks on the table. The girl saw this interaction, becoming even more flustered. “Your boyfriend is Maeda Riku?”

This time, Sion’s grin was genuine. He was a bit starstruck when he replied, “yeah. You know him?”

The girl made an incoherent babble before she responded to his question, “you have no idea how many students in my batch stayed up for his midnight program just to hear his voice.”

“I can see that,” Sion laughed. “But I don’t know that our university’s radio is still popular among students.”

The girl clicked her tongue, “it’s not the radio, it’s just him.”

Their eyes spontaneously went back to the direction where Riku stood, still choosing snacks to bring. He was chatting with a student on his side, visibly discussing the food. After some time, he picked up something from the table, sniffing it lightly, and nodded. Only then he walked back to where Sion and the girl were standing.

“Who organized this, the food is terrible.” He frowned, complaining as soon as Sion was within earshot. “This is the most appetizing that I can find.”

Riku handed him a plate of…something that looked like vegetable fritters? There was a small plastic cup of its sauce on the side, to which Sion also sniffed. It smelled okay.

At this moment, Riku realized the presence of the girl. He instantly smiled, looking at Sion while raising his eyebrows. 

The girl coughed awkwardly, “hi, I’m Sion’s senior from the book club.”

“Ah, hello noona! I’m Sion’s—”

Sion coughed, to which the girl laughed. She patted Sion’s shoulder, trying to make it look like a friendly gesture instead of flirting. “I’ll go, then. Don’t forget next week’s review, okay?”

Sion gave her a non-committal mumble while Riku bid her goodbye politely. They watched as the girl walked back to her group of friends, standing a few meters away from them. The group went noisy when the girl arrived, and Sion and Riku took it as the sign to turn their attention elsewhere. 

They didn’t know that as soon as they turned away, the girl was bombarded with questions.

“How is it? How is it?”

They were sitting on the last bus in service. They agreed to go back to Sion’s rented room for the night to save the bus fare. Riku’s place was a bit far and he needed to change buses twice, so it was a bit inconvenient at this hour.

“There’s still two and a half years of our students' life,” Riku sighed, his body sagged on the bus’ backrest. “You better pay me extra for this.”

Right at that moment, there was a notification sound on Riku’s phone, telling him that someone had transferred money to his bank account. It made Riku squeal. He leaned on Sion’s shoulder with an exaggerated manner. “Fast as usual. I’ll take you out for a meal tomorrow. Thank you, boyfriend.”

Sion snorted, “you’re buying me food with my money?”

“Hey, it’s mine now.” Riku punched Sion’s shoulder before putting his head back there. “You agreed to this. This is a pure transactional affair.”

He proceeded to list out places near Sion’s rented room where they could eat breakfast tomorrow. He didn’t realize Sion wasn’t listening to his ramble nor he felt the lingering gaze focusing on top of his head.

The girls surrounding her were voicing their disappointments, but Sion’s book club senior only laughed.

“You should watch the way he looked at him,” the girl smiled at the memory. “I wonder why they keep their relationship low key. This is the first time I saw Sion look like that.”

Her friend beside her asked, “like what?”

“Smitten.” the girl huffed a laugh. “This is great. I can tease him at our next club meeting.”

Jin and Onri are enjoying some ice cream after a long day of catching bugs. Fuugen is having a miserable time being around two people he doesn't stand AND having to catch bugs. Oh and having to be a polite guest and pay for their ice cream.
