+ You and Hiromasa have been friends for enough time for you to know that he doesn't like to drink

+ So, the fact that he comes and says he wants to drink with you is really weird

+ You think he's going to want to ask a favour of you with all the crazy stuff he's been getting involved with lately and you're preparing yourself to tell the man no

+ Because it's hard not to say yes to him. He's too sweet and wholesome

+ He just wants to spend time with you

+ It starts pretty calmly. He has a little sake and tells you about some of his newest adventures. He reassures you that he's not going to get cursed by Seimei because he knows you've been hearing the rumours going around the palace

+ You aren't too worried about him. Well, you're worried about him, but you trust his judgement, too. So, you let him talk and join in with anything that would amuse him and make him laugh

+ You're more worried about him because of how much he's drinking. Hiromasa never drinks and you know that the amount he's having is too much for him

+ He's flushed and giggling a lot. It is adorable and it gets to you. You want to keep watching him like this, but you're worried he'll get sick

+ When you suggest that he slow down, he asks you if you think he's a lightweight. You tell him "yes" and he gets even more embarrassed

+ Which makes him even cuter

+ He's ashamed that you think he's a lightweight and he doesn't want to seem like he's "too soft", so he doesn't listen and drinks more

+ Now you're really scared that he will vomit. If he vomits around you, that's fine, but if he goes off to visit the fox child while drunk and vomits in his section of the palace, you think he might actually get cursed

+ He soon starts getting very tipsy and is laughing all the time. But, you've had some to drink, too, even though you're holding it better than he is, so you start to laugh with him

+ Soon, the two of you are half falling over each other while laughing

+ It's a miracle that the sake bottle with what's left inside doesn't go spilling over but it doesn't

+ But, Hiromasa is soon about to accidentally knock the bottle, so you quickly push him away from it. He lands flat on his back on the floor and laughs even harder. He's got tears in his eyes from it all

+ Even though he's a lightweight, he's not weak, so he reaches to you and grabs you so that you're pulled on top of him

+ His body is really soft, not in a flabby way because he's fit, but he's got this toned-fleshy kind of feel under his clothes

+ It isn't until you're on top of him with your face just centimeters away from his when Hiromasa stops laughing and somehow becomes aware of how the two of you are behaving together

+ The man looks like he wants to disappear and there's a panic in his eyes like he thinks you'll never want to spend time with him again because he was inappropriate

+ Before he can apologise, you lean down and plant your lips against his, sending him into a passion he can't deny

+ But, with Hiromasa being Hiromasa, after he gets a good taste of your kiss, he puts his hands to your cheeks and pulls the two of you just a little bit apart from each other. He asks you in a sort of slurred speech if he may touch you

+ You nod and smile at him, making him blush even more. His hands hesitantly move to your body and slowly make themselves comfortable as they rub themselves along your form

+ You're enjoying and savouring his touch, and he makes the mood sweetly awkward again when he asks you if you're comfortable and tells you that if he does something wrong to tell him

+ Your answer? To kiss him again and hold his face in place underneath you so that he can't pull away again

Fun fact: Hiromasa is the grandson of Emperor Daigo and I simp hard for a crusty, scowling member of the Daigo Clan that exists like 400 years after "Onmyouji" 😁 Hilariously, he has similar eyebrows and a similar hairline to the Muromachi Period Daigo character I'm obsessed with. I'm tempted to do a two for one special that may not be SFW now 😉

Hello All (｡◕‿◕｡) To welcome in the new year we have new releases to share with everyone. This is a little different from what we usually share but we hope you'll enjoy them all just as much.

This year, we're starting to release some of our favorite chapters from the novels that gave birth to the influential historical fantasy franchise Onmyouji. They are set in the Japanese court of 1000 years ago and follow the exploits of the court astronomer, diviner, and exorcist Abe-no Seimei and the former prince and most talented musician of his time Minamoto-no Hiromasa, as well as a large cast of deities, demons, nobles, monks, monsters and spirits.

We selected a few of our favorite chapters from the novels to share and since the stories don't follow a chronological order you can start reading from any one! However, we recommend that you start with the one that was published first, which is How a Demon Stole the Biwa Genjou. It's old, so I'd want to redraw it to make it consistent with my usual style, but I figured I'd post it for now since Idk when I'll get the chance to redraw it.

FGO popped off when they created an emotionally nuanced complex complicated jester who deeply loves the human they're obsessed with 💖✨ They are simply PEAK

Douman and LimGuda are EVERYTHING to me I've dedicated my soul to them since December 2020!!! 💚🧡🐈‍⬛🍊

"Beautiful Carnivore, the All-Ridiculing" is such a badass title for them oh my goddd I'm obsessed

I take lots of breaks from FGO but I'm always here to see my faves 👁️ Like awakening the slumbering beast...

Hasendow (Showichi Furumi), Douman's character artist is really good at harmonizing colours and working with green and yellow tones

I tend to use cooler tones and saturate pink/red hues in my arts (though it depends on the art for me). It also has nice contrast against their reds and greens! 💖

I already loved the colours of the OG that I chose but the others are so cool to see. It's fun to see the way low opacity gradient maps shift the colours in subtle ways WHOAAA

It's super messy but it's honestly one of my fave doodles in terms of colours 💗 I'm a big fan of the colours too hehe ✨

I used to airbrush the skin colour over the hair (which is a popular stylistic choice), but I don't do it anymore cuz I think my saturated art style looks better with higher contrast.

I think that Douman doodle has some of the best colour work I've done

It's a rough draft WIP so it's pretty messy, but I love the way the colours harmonize on this one 🤭 💗 I should do colour drafts more often…

I think it's cool to use the same green in their earrings and eyeliner, in their hair as well hehe

When I do these rough colour drafts, it's like if I took a bucket of paint and splashed it on the wall. Helps me get a sense of colours!

I love picking colours, and I think it'd be interesting to take this kind of painting style further whenever I get the chance to refine it more 💞

I definitely want to lean into this messy painting style. I wanna get stronger at the painterly style!

Because of Douman and Kuroha (KagePro), I've always wanted to draw mild horror pieces 🥰💞 It'd be super fun to draw Douman and LimGuda arts with mild artistic horror vibes in the future.

My cute kitty is so versatile. They can be cute silly and be peak horror all at once!

I need to get stronger at drawing them. Douman's design is the most detailed and complicated out of my faves, but I wanna draw LOTS of LimGuda... AHHH...

I've been obsessed with Ashiya Douman, the evil clown cat since December 2020. Didn't even take me a week to be obsessed. It took 5 days. Sen's Limbo December Descent 🙌

LimGuda is my comfort HC NBLNB ship 💚🧡 They've been one of my top fave ships since December 2020. The spice of a gay evil clown demon who hates humanity, with a karmic relationship of love/hate with the human they're in love with, is unparalleled.

I can’t get over how much I adore Douman. They’re simply the best. This chaos clown is a forever fave of mine~ I love how in-depth and nuanced this hot evil jester onmyouji is. The emotional nuance and complexity of this chara…

“WANTS TO WATCH THEM FALL TO HELL BUT UNWITTINGLY FALLS IN LOVE WITH THEM.” I’M DEVASTATED ABOUT THEM

The amount of detail that went into Douman's character and design is insane to me… Hasendow AKA Showichi Furumi (Douman's character artist/illustrator) has such a huge brain 🤯

I did this back in 2022, so I have even MORE now to add to the Douman collection, so there's no way all of it is gonna fit on my bed

Douman loves them with curses… LIKE A CAT TIPPING OVER VASES CUZ THEY WANT TO BE PAID ATTENTION TO. The whole “Limbo gets defeated/is overwhelmed by the power of feelies and their S/O’s Candid Sincerity" trope I love to see in their ship works that I wanna draw eventually btw… I wanna draw them lots!!!

Reminds me of when I was rereading the Ashiya Douman vs. Dioscuri Anthology comic by AU (@/delete_au), that has huge amounts of LimGuda (Douman/Ritsuka) crumbs. DRIVES ME CRAZY...

AU (@/delete_au) is a popular Fate/Grand Order (FGO or Fate/GO) fan artist that's been commissioned to draw official works for Fate (including official merch)

AU’s art style is so intricately detailed and gorgeous. The perspectives, inking, and shading are so gorgeous. Huge art goals for me.

The way he sulks like a cat that wants to be paid attention to when Ritsuka hardly reacts when they sees the maimed shikigami 😭 Please give your kitty lots of attention!

Like once again Douman wants Ritsuka to pay attention to him and searches for reactions from them, but also, the way he refers to himself as their "loyal retainer"

AU has a massive brain since the scenes, visuals, story and dialogue of this Anthology Comic were decided by them. It's also such a huge characterization surplus for Douman and such visual eye candy

Douman invited Ritsuka to fall into hell with them in-game in his My Room lines, and now they're the one inviting him, saying that they will drag him and take him along with them.

Douman tells them that the two of them are "bound by unbreakable/inseparable fate."

And the part where he sarcastically laughs at their speech by comparing it to Buddha's Great Vows, but also acknowledges their determination and tenacity... Aghhhh...

He makes this grandiose, deadly romantic speech back, telling them that they are "bound together by an unbreakable fate" (inseparable fate/karma)

JAW DROP??? THIS IS GAY AS HELL 🏳️‍🌈 LIMGUDA IS REAL!!! 💚🧡

The EN fan-translation is SO good. I love the usage of Saṃvega at the end.

I got stuck on some parts reading the JP version cuz of Douman's vocabulary... I got to clear things up reading the VN fan-TL, and it was interesting to see how it was translated in Viet, but yeah the EN fan-TL cleared up so many things for me.

They drew the Ashiya Douman vs. Dioscuri chapter in one of the FGO anthologies. LIMGUDA ALSO INTERACT IN IT, AND THERE'S TONS OF LIMGUDA FOOD HEHEHEHE... Their art is so gorgeous. They're one of my favourite FGO artists, their works are stunning.

Ashiya Douman vs. Dioscuri by AU (Viet Fan-TL)

The VN fan-TL is pretty much VERY similar since it's based on the same JP text as the source material, but I'll highlight some neat tidbits I noticed

Douman: Such boastful words, just like Buddha’s great vows!

JP uses 弘誓 (Guzei, “Buddha’s great vows”)

The VN fan-TL uses Tứ Hoằng Thệ Nguyện ("The Four Encompassing Vows") of Buddhism, the fourfold bodhisattva vow. Only difference is that it refers to it directly

道満：そう！あなたとこの道満を結ぶは断ち切れぬ「因果」にございます

Douman: Yes, that's right! You and this Douman are connected by an unbreakable “fate”

JP uses 因果 (inga, "cause and effect; karma; fate")

VN fan-TL uses "Unbreakable karma (cause and effect)"

Nhân quả = Karmic cause and effect in Buddhism

I love the wording of him describing the way he's bound to them as “Unbreakable fate”

It's so sexy and fits so well with Douman’s character, saying they have a connection of inseparable fate/karma.

道満：厭穢欣浄（えんえごんじょう）

Douman: En’e’gon’jyou. (“I abhor this tainted world, and seek rebirth in the Pure Land.”)

JP version has it as 厭穢欣浄 (En’e’gon’jyou, “I abhor this tainted world, and seek rebirth in the Pure Land.”)

The VN fan-TL translated it as: Yếm ly uế độ, hân cầu Tịnh Độ = "I detest and want to leave the defilement of the Samsara, and seek rebirth in the Pure Land"

...

厭離穢土 (Onriedo/Enriedo, “Abhorrence of [living in] this impure world”)

The antithesis of Onriedo is 欣求浄土 (Gongujyoudo, “Seeking rebirth in the Pure Land”)

These are Yojijukugo (four character compounds), and concepts of Pure Land Buddhism that became popularized in the Heian era.

The full term is 「おんりえど・ごんぐじょうど」 (Onriedo/Enriedo - Gongujyoudo). The two combined, make a pair.

The phrase is usually shortened to 厭穢欣浄 (En’e’gon’jyou/En’ne’gon’jyou)

In Buddhism, it means, “I am disgusted with this world (I want to leave the world of filth/suffering and stain), and seek the Pure Land [of Buddha]”

...

Both the EN fan-TL and VN fan-TL are super interesting to read! It's been churning in my thoughts all day...

A soft child removed early from Imperial succession, earning himself both the ‘Minamoto’ surname and the right to live. Hiromasa might be the grandson of the Emperor, but the Emperor had many grandchildren, several of whom Seimei had already met. Colder, harder, and hungry for power, those who dared retain the title of Prince and the Imperial surname often reminded Seimei of snakes and wolves. Hiromasa made him think of a rabbit. Seimei pressed his tongue against the insides of his teeth, tipped against a sharp canine. 

He’d expected the rabbit to shrink back at the sight of his gold-streaked hair and cold eyes. Hide behind one of the armed guards, perhaps, or shakily start throwing his weight around to assert himself. Instead, the rabbit turned calmly to his retainers. “Leave us,” Hiromasa said. His tone was gentle but firm. Despite being three years younger than Seimei, he looked slighter, swallowed in his robes.

As the adults filed out, Seimei approached and bowed. “Hiromasa-dono. I am Abe no Seimei.”

Hiromasa blushed. “No need to be so formal. Sit, have tea. I brought some snacks.”

brother crab’s 2023 seasonals in review: fall

most of the fall shows i'm watching are still an ep or two away from being complete but i'm leaving on a trip tomorrow and wanted to get this finished first so here we go

pretty sure none of this will change at this point (though aots and runner-up did just flip like five days ago lol)

FIRST UP. IN A STARTLING LAST MINUTE UPSET. ANIME OF THE SEASON

MIGI TO DALI!!! although for the past month or so i was convinced overtake! would take it, migi to dali has been coming to such a stellar climax that it's shot into the lead

overtake! is still exceptional and i've talked a lot about it this season, it's just a beautiful thing in its simplicity, with characters that are so Weird yet Real

migi to dali is EVEN WEIRDER in an astonishingly good way, it was intriguing right from the start and continued to build and build to a payoff that really blew me away

i don't think uniqueness is everything, sometimes a show that feels like i've seen it a hundred times before can still be my favorite thing of a season, it would just feel like home. but migi to dali's uniqueness is definitely a huge part in what makes it so alluring to me, the way it balances psychological suspense and comedy is so excellent and fresh

and now the sequels! in addition to spyfam, arknights, and dmdp, bpro and hpmi got sequels and hanako-kun got a little tv short

no comment on hpmi it'll get its own post

best sequel probably should go to dead mount death play, the world building is just fantastic to me, and this season definitely feels even stronger than the first (which was already very strong!)

however. i'm giving sequel of the season to arknights just for the sasha and eno ep, they put me on the fucking floor with that one

bpro s3 was unfortunately not really my thing, i want tsubasa happier and more well-rested :( but spyfam is adorable as usual, and some more hanako-kun was great (though we need more!)

quickfire thoughts on everything else:

onmyouji was unspectacular but surprisingly fun! and gay. gay as hell. asnm u have not led me astray this time

dog signal is not exactly High Quality but it's... fine and sometimes fun? i'm forever amused by the fact that it's billed as an educational series, and it kind of is! there's actual information about dog training in here. but there's also "guy walks other guy on leash in public for 2 hours" in here. and that was just episode one

kawagoe boys sing is a hot mess and i love it to bits, it starts out so silly that i'm sure it's an insta-drop for many people, but the club dynamics really come together throughout the series in a way i'm enjoying very much

bullbuster... talked about this a lot already, it was fine as an office drama/tiny business vs giant corporation type thing, but fell short on the mecha side of things

bokuame's shit. more on this later

atarashii joushi wa dotennen FREAKING ADORABLE. MORE OF THIS FOREVER

yuzuki-san chi no yon kyoudai EVEN MORE ADORABLE. MORE OF THIS FOREVER AND EVER

good night world was pretty decent, i overall... liked it, i think? it was very bingeable, so it was nice of them to drop it all at once lol and i liked the general premise and plot and all. but i think the wrap-up just felt a bit, eh, maybe slapdash to me? not Bad, but fell just short of exceptional

hoshikuzu telepath ADORABLE AS WELL as far as cgdct goes i'd say this is one of the better ones, kind of same tier as diy for me, but it's no yuru camp (the gold standard)

s-rank musume had a premise i really liked, and an overarching plot that was less compelling to me. wish we'd seen more of a focus on the family bond rather than like... magic and politics type stuff

watashi no oshi wa akuyaku reijou was a cute fucking yuri, the romance was a delight but as with s-rank musume, the 'plottier' bits were not as compelling to me

kamonohashi ron no kindan suiri feels like a very solid adaptation! makes me even more keen to read katekyo (which has been on my planning list for... fucking forever)

ragna crimson is pretty fun but not that outstanding, but like. really fun actually

shangri-la frontier is also very fun! not terribly high stakes (not really any stakes at all) but hilarious, action-packed in a good way, and probably especially entertaining for anyone who's played mmos before (because some parts are so so so relatable)

undead unluck is SO GROSS but IN A GOOD WAY idk how to explain this so i won't try

and sousou no frieren is anime of the year. no contest. (personally i disqualify my aots shows from winning aoty as well so i can do this. i can do anything i want forever)

as for the music!

we had a queen bee op this season and i will almost always pick queen bee as op/ed of the season when we have one, this is no exception. undead unluck's 01 takes op, and ed of the season goes to kamonohashi ron's lip-sync! just really like the vocals of that one

blorbo of the season MADOKA-CHAN KOUYA ship of the season surprisingly it's a toss up between like. seimei/hiromasa (WHAT YEAR IS IT) and kinjou/aoyama from atarashii joushi. like. momose/shirosaki VERY GOOD but those side bitches... they are in my head
