Ben opened the door, greeting your parents with a strained smile, doing his best to hide the tension that still crackled between the two of you. “Hey, you’re early”, he said, his voice almost steady.
Your mom beamed at him, oblivious to the undercurrents in the room. “We thought we’d come by and help with the preparations! I hope we didn’t catch you at a bad time”.
Ben forced a smile, shaking his head. “Not at all. Just getting things ready”.
You appeared in the doorway, trying to keep your expression neutral, though you knew your cheeks were still flushed. “Mom, Dad, it’s great to see you”, you said, moving to hug them.
Your dad glanced between you and Ben. “Hope we didn’t interrupt anything too important”.
You felt your face heat up even more, but you forced a laugh, shaking your head. “No, just some last-minute prep. You know how it is”.
Your mom, always perceptive, glanced between the two of you, her brow furrowing slightly. “Are you sure everything’s okay?”.
You both nodded a bit too quickly, exchanging a quick glance that only made the situation more amusing—and more tense.
“Everything’s fine”, you assured her, hoping she wouldn’t press further. “Why don’t we all head to the backyard? Ben’s just about ready to start grilling”.
As you led your parents outside, you felt Ben’s hand brush against yours, a silent reminder that this was far from over.
But for now, you both had to play the part, smiling and making small talk with your parents, all the while trying to ignore the desire still thrumming between you. It was going to be a long day, but the promise of what would come later made it bearable.
Outside in the backyard, the sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden light over everything. It was unseasonably warm for November, and as you all settled in, your dad couldn’t help but comment on it.
“Can you believe this weather?”, he said, shaking his head in disbelief. “Warm temperatures like this in November—it’s crazy! I don’t remember a fall like this in years”.
You nodded, trying to engage in the conversation and keep things normal. “Yeah, it’s definitely unusual. But I guess it’s nice to have a little more time to enjoy being outside before winter really hits”.
Ben was busy at the grill, but you could feel his eyes on you, the connection between you both still smoldering beneath the surface. He was doing his best to focus on flipping the burgers and preparing the food, but you knew he was just as distracted as you were.
Your mom, however, wasn’t so easily fooled. She was eyeing you suspiciously, her gaze lingering a bit too long on your flushed cheeks and the way you kept fidgeting with your hair. You could tell she was trying to figure out what was going on.
“Are you feeling alright, dear?”, she asked, her voice laced with concern. “You seem a bit off today”-
You forced a smile, trying to play it cool. “I’m fine, Mom. Just a little tired, that’s all”.
She didn’t look entirely convinced, and you knew she was probably putting together a few pieces in her head, even if she didn’t have the full picture yet. You were only 12 weeks along, and you hadn’t told anyone outside of you and Ben about the pregnancy, wanting to wait until you were a bit further along.
But it was getting harder to hide the signs, especially with your mom’s eagle-eyed attention. Her intuition was sharp, and you could see the wheels turning in her mind as she observed you.
“Are you sure?”, she pressed gently, her eyes narrowing slightly. “You know you can tell me if something’s going on”.
Ben, sensing the growing tension, turned from the grill, offering a reassuring smile. “She’s fine, really. We’ve just been busy with work and everything. You know how it is”.
Your mom’s gaze flickered between you and Ben, her suspicion not entirely eased. “If you say so”, she said slowly, still not entirely convinced. “But you know I’m always here if you need to talk about anything”.
You nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for not telling her sooner. “I know, Mom. I appreciate it. Really”.
The conversation shifted slightly as your dad started talking about an upcoming project he was working on, drawing your mom’s attention away from you for the moment. You breathed a small sigh of relief, grateful for the distraction.
As the evening began to settle in and the warmth of the day started to cool, your dad leaned back in his chair with a contented sigh. “I think I could use a coffee to cap off the night”, he said, stretching his arms over his head.
You stiffened slightly at the mention of coffee, knowing how sensitive you’d become to the smell. But before you could say anything, Ben was already on it, giving you a quick, knowing glance.
“I’ve got it”, he said easily, getting up from his seat and heading into the kitchen.
You offered him a grateful smile as he disappeared inside. The last thing you wanted was to be caught gagging in front of your parents, especially after your mom’s earlier suspicions.
But, of course, as soon as Ben stepped back outside with the steaming mug in his hand, the rich aroma of the coffee hit you like a brick. Without thinking, you gagged involuntarily, quickly covering your mouth as you tried to steady yourself.
Your mom’s head whipped around to look at you, her eyes growing wide. Her reaction was instant, as if she’d been waiting for something to confirm her suspicions. “Oh my-”, she gasped, her hand flying to her chest. “Are you…?”.
You froze, your heart racing as you tried to come up with something—anything—to say. Ben, sensing the sudden shift in the air, quickly set the coffee down on the table and moved toward you, his eyes darting between you and your mom.
“I’m fine,” you tried to assure her, but the words came out a little too quickly, too defensive.
Your mom wasn’t buying it. She leaned forward, her eyes narrowing in that way that only mothers can do when they know something’s up. “Don’t even try to hide it”, she said, her voice filled with a mix of excitement and disbelief. “I had the exact same reaction to coffee when I was pregnant with you”.
Your dad’s eyes widened in surprise as he processed your mom’s words. He glanced between you and Ben, his expression flickering with uncertainty. Both of your parents seemed to be absorbing the news slowly, their excitement tempered with a mix of emotions that were hard to read.
For a brief moment, the atmosphere felt tense, like they were trying to decide how they felt about this sudden revelation. You could almost see the thoughts racing through their minds—the realization that their little girl was now about to become a mother herself, the unexpected timing of the news, and the inevitable changes that came with it.
Ben, sensing the shift in mood, gently placed a hand on your back, offering his silent support as you waited for your parents to process everything. His calm presence helped you steady your nerves as you watched their reactions.
Your mom was the first to break the silence, her eyes softening as she reached for your hand. “I just can’t believe it”, she said, her voice shaky with emotion. “My baby is having a baby”. She looked at you with a mix of awe and disbelief, but there was a flicker of a smile starting to form on her lips.
You swallowed hard, feeling the moment stretch out as you tried to gauge how your parents would react next. Before you could say anything, Ben, ever the one to break the tension with humor, shrugged casually and said, “Well, I told you I’d get her pregnant”.
The words hung in the air for a beat before your mom’s eyes widened, her surprise quickly turning into a soft gasp of disbelief. You instinctively nudged Ben in the side, giving him a playful but firm shove. “Ben!”, you hissed, trying to stifle a laugh even as your cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Ben grinned, unbothered by the reaction. He gave you a wink, then turned to your parents with a mock-serious expression. “What? I’m just saying I’m a man of my word”.
Your dad blinked, processing the statement, before he suddenly burst out laughing, the tension that had been building finally breaking. He shook his head, chuckling as he wiped a tear from the corner of his eye. “Well, I guess you did warn us”, he said, his tone lightening considerably.
Your mom, though still a bit taken aback, smiled as well, though she shot Ben a look that was equal parts amusement and mild exasperation. “Honestly, Ben”, she said, shaking her head with a small laugh. “You’ve never been one for subtlety, have you?”.
Ben rolled his eyes, clearly unbothered by your mom’s remark. “I didn’t get into detail about how I fucked her, so give me some credit”, he muttered under his breath, loud enough for only you to hear. You stifled a laugh, elbowing him again—this time a little harder—your cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red.
“Ben”, you whispered, your tone half-scolding but unable to hide your amusement. “Not helping”.
Your dad rolled his eyes dramatically and smacked the table with an exasperated laugh, trying to shake off Ben’s cheeky remark. “Alright, alright”, he said, grinning despite himself. “Let’s save the bedroom talk for when I’m not around, yeah?”.
You buried your face in your hands, trying to hide your embarrassment while your mom shot your dad a look, half-laughing and half-wincing at how the conversation had taken such an unexpected turn.
Ben just shrugged and leaned back in his chair, his arm sliding comfortably around your waist as if nothing had happened. “Fair enough”, he said with a grin.
Both of your parents sighed deeply and rubbed their faces, clearly trying to reset the tone of the evening. Your dad shook his head with a resigned smile, pointing at Ben as he rubbed his temples. “You’ve got one heck of a character in this one”, he said, nodding toward Ben. “I can see how things are going to be pretty lively around here”.
Your mom, still shaking her head in disbelief, chimed in. “Lively is one way to put it”, she muttered, but there was a small, affectionate smile on her face. “You sure know how to pick them, sweetheart”.
You chuckled softly, glancing over at Ben, who looked far too pleased with himself. “Yeah, well, he keeps things interesting, that’s for sure”, you said with a grin.
Ben leaned in closer to you, his grin still firmly in place. “You know you love it”, he teased, pressing a kiss to the side of your head.
Sensing the shift in the mood, your mom took a deep breath and, with a slightly nervous smile, tried to steer the conversation into more neutral territory. “So, sweetheart, how far along are you now?”, she asked, her voice laced with a hint of concern.
You could see the apprehension in her eyes as she asked the question. You knew that despite her excitement about becoming a grandmother, she was still nervous about the idea of you carrying a supe baby. It was something you had all been quietly grappling with ever since you shared the news.
“I’m twelve weeks now”, you replied softly, glancing at Ben, whose protective presence you could feel beside you.
Your mom nodded slowly, clearly trying to process the reality of it. “And… everything is going well so far?”, she asked, her voice calm but betraying a hint of anxiety.
Before you could respond, Ben’s arm tightened around you slightly, his protective instincts kicking in as he gave your mom a reassuring but firm look. “Everything is fine”, he said, his voice steady. “The baby’s healthy, and the doctors are keeping a close eye on everything”.
You sighed softly, feeling Ben’s arm around you like a shield, his unwavering support always there when you needed it most. “The nausea has been… a lot, though”, you admitted, rubbing your hand over your belly absentmindedly. “It feels like it’s non-stop some days”.
Your mom’s expression softened immediately, her concern evident but mixed with understanding. “That’s normal for some pregnancies, especially in the first trimester”, she said gently. “But make sure you’re resting as much as you can. You’re carrying a lot more than just a baby—this is going to be different”.
You nodded, feeling a wave of gratitude for her advice even though you could see she was still wrestling with her anxiety. It wasn’t easy for her, knowing the risks that might come with a supe pregnancy, but she was trying to be supportive, and that meant everything to you.
Your mom’s gaze shifted to Ben, her expression turning serious as she wrestled with her next words. She hesitated for a moment, clearly choosing them carefully before finally speaking. “Ben, if it comes down to my daughter or the baby—”.
But before she could finish, Ben cut her off, his voice firm and unwavering. “Y/N is my life”, he said, his tone leaving no room for debate. His eyes were sharp, protective, and filled with conviction as he looked at your mother. “There’s no question. She’s everything to me”.
Everyone went quiet for a moment, your mom processing Ben’s words, her expression softening slightly. She nodded slowly, her concern still evident but tempered by an understanding of the depth of his feelings for you.
“I just need to hear that”, she said softly, her voice a little strained. “As her mother, I can’t help but worry. You understand that, right?”.
“I do”, he said quietly. “And you have my word, I’ll do everything I can to protect her”.
Your mom seemed to relax a bit more after that, though there was still a hint of worry lingering in her eyes. She reached out and squeezed Ben’s hand, her smile more genuine now. “Thank you”, she whispered.
You felt a wave of emotion wash over you as you watched the interaction between Ben and your mom. It wasn’t easy for her to let go of the reins of protection, but she was trying to trust Ben with your well-being. And Ben, despite his rough exterior, was handling the responsibility with a seriousness that only deepened your love for him.
Your dad, who had been quietly observing the exchange, cleared his throat to break the tension. “Well, it sounds like she’s in good hands.. for now”, he said, his tone lighter. “Now, how about we talk about something a little less serious—like nursery themes? You two got any ideas yet?”.
The mood lifted as the conversation shifted to lighter topics. You smiled at your dad’s attempt to steer things in a more cheerful direction, grateful for the break from the heavier subjects.
As the evening continued, you could feel the bonds between all of you strengthening, the love and support from your family making the road ahead seem a little less daunting.
Later that day, as the evening settled into a comfortable quiet, you found yourself curled up in Ben’s lap on the couch. His strong arms wrapped around you, holding you close as he sipped casually from a bottle of whiskey. The warmth of his body and the steady rhythm of his breathing provided a soothing backdrop, making it impossible to keep your eyes open.
You drifted in and out of sleep, the world around you fading in and out of focus. Every time you began to slip into sleep, a small shift from Ben or a noise in the background would pull you back to the edge of consciousness, leaving you hovering in that in-between state where dreams and reality blur together.
Ben, ever aware of your state, seemed to find some amusement in it. He glanced down at you, a smirk playing on his lips as he took another sip of whiskey. “You know, you could just give in and sleep”, he murmured, his voice low and teasing. “You look like you’re fighting a battle you’re not gonna win”.
You mumbled something incoherent, half-asleep and not fully aware of his words, but Ben only chuckled softly, his hand brushing over your hair in a gentle, almost absent-minded gesture.
“Stubborn as always”, he commented, though there was a tender note in his voice. He pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering there for a moment.
You nuzzled closer into his chest, the sound of his heartbeat lulling you further into that drowsy state.
Ben continued to sip his whiskey, one arm wrapped securely around you, holding you against him as if to protect you even in your sleep. His free hand traced lazy patterns on your back, the repetitive motion soothing in its familiarity.
“Sleep, baby”, he whispered, his voice a low rumble in his chest. “I’ve got you”.
You felt the last bit of tension slip from your body, his words finally allowing you to give in fully to the exhaustion. The fight to stay awake faded, and you let yourself drift off, the comfort of Ben’s embrace the last thing you were aware of before sleep finally claimed you.
Ben watched you for a while, the usual hardness in his expression softening as he looked down at you, his features relaxed and content. He placed the whiskey bottle on the table beside him, his now-free hand joining the other in holding you closer.
After a while, as the stillness of the room enveloped you both, Ben’s gaze softened even more. He took a moment to look at you, peacefully nestled in his arms, before he gently pushed up the shirt you were wearing, exposing your bare stomach. His movements were careful, almost reverent, as though he were afraid of disturbing you.
His large, calloused hand moved to rest on your stomach, covering nearly the entire area with ease. The warmth of his palm seeped into your skin, and he took a deep breath, closing his eyes to focus on the connection between him, you, and the tiny life growing inside of you.
For a long moment, he simply sat there, his hand steady on your belly, feeling the faint, rhythmic pulse of your baby’s heartbeat beneath his fingertips. It was so small, so delicate, yet the significance of it wasn’t lost on him.
As he felt that tiny pulse, something shifted in Ben. He had always been a protector, a warrior, but this—this was different. This was a part of him, a part of you. The sensation grounded him, filling him with a deep sense of responsibility and love that went beyond anything he had ever felt before.
He swallowed hard, his throat tightening with emotion.
With his free hand, Ben gently pulled you even closer to him, his grip firm but tender. The warmth of your body against his brought him a sense of peace that he rarely allowed himself to feel. He glanced down at you, nestled so trustingly in his arms.
Carefully, he reached for the blanket draped over the back of the couch. He unfolded it quietly, not wanting to disturb your sleep, and then draped it over both of you, tucking it in around your shoulders to ensure you were completely covered and warm. The gesture was simple, but it held a world of meaning for Ben. It was as if, by wrapping you in that blanket, he was also wrapping you in his unwavering commitment to keep you safe.
As you slept peacefully in his arms, Ben’s thoughts turned inward. He had faced countless battles, endured unimaginable hardships, but this—protecting you and your baby—felt like the most important mission of his life. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to ensure your safety, nothing he wouldn’t face to protect this family you were building together.
His mind wandered to the future, to the life he wanted for you and your child. He imagined the tiny baby growing inside you, the first time it would open their eyes, the first time it would grasp his finger with their tiny hand. It was a future he hadn’t dared to hope for, but now that it was within reach, he was determined to do everything in his power to make it a reality.
He tightened his hold on you slightly, his hand still resting protectively on your stomach. The faint heartbeat beneath his palm was a reminder of the incredible responsibility that lay ahead, but it was a responsibility he was ready to embrace fully.
Ben took a deep breath, his resolve hardening. He would never let anything or anyone harm you or his baby. Not now, not ever. This was his family, his reason for being, and he would defend it with everything he had.
At four months pregnant, you found yourself in a delicate balance between excitement and exhaustion. Your body was changing, growing, and adapting to the new life inside you. Even though most women wouldn’t show much until later, you already had a small but noticeable bump. It was big enough to peek over the waistband of your panties, yet still small enough that if you sucked in your breath, you could just barely see your underwear.
Now, you sat on the edge of the bathtub, a bottle of oil in your hand as you gently massaged it into your belly. The rhythmic motion of your hands was soothing, almost meditative, but it couldn’t fully mask the fatigue that clung to you. You let out a long, tired yawn, your body still craving rest despite the constant sleep you tried to catch up on. The exhaustion was something you had become all too familiar with, a constant companion over the past few months.
You rubbed the oil in circles over your bump, your thoughts drifting. The past few weeks had been a challenge—your body was going through so much, and the persistent nausea made every day feel like an uphill battle. Three weeks ago, you’d started to lose a bit of weight, something that worried both you and Ben. Despite your best efforts, the vomiting hadn’t let up, and Ben had taken it upon himself to make sure you were eating enough, practically feeding you around the clock.
It was sweet, how much he cared, but you knew it came from a place of deep concern. He’d been hovering more than usual, always making sure you had something to eat, watching you closely to ensure you were okay. It was comforting, knowing he was there, but you could see the worry in his eyes whenever you struggled to keep food down.
As you sat there, lost in thought, the bathroom door creaked open, and Ben stepped inside. His eyes immediately went to you, taking in the sight of you sitting on the edge of the tub, oil glistening on your belly. You were sitting there in just your underwear, your small but noticeable bump exposed as you gently massaged the oil into your skin.
He couldn’t help but notice how much more prominent your shoulder blades and collarbones had become, the slight weight loss over the past few weeks making them stand out more than before. It wasn’t something he liked seeing.
He leaned against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his broad chest as he studied you. His gaze was intense, the protective instincts he’d developed since learning about the pregnancy clear in the way he looked at you. “You eat anything yet?”, he asked, his voice gruff, though the concern was evident beneath the surface.
You sighed, knowing this conversation was coming. “I had a toast earlier”, you replied, trying to keep your tone light, even though you knew it wouldn’t ease his concern.
Ben’s brow furrowed, and he pushed off the doorframe, walking over to you with that familiar mix of protectiveness and irritation. “Toast isn’t enough”, he grumbled, his hand reaching out to gently touch your shoulder, his thumb brushing over the sharp edge of your collarbone. “You need to be eating more. You can’t keep going like this”.
You looked up at him, meeting his gaze. You could see the worry etched into his. “I know”, you said softly, placing your hand over his where it rested on your shoulder. “I’m trying, Ben. It’s just hard with the nausea”.
Ben sighed, his hand lingering on your shoulder as he absorbed your words. It had been like this for the last seven days—a relentless cycle of trying to eat enough to keep both you and the baby healthy, only to have your body reject most of what you managed to take in. You could see the worry deepening in his eyes, the frustration building as he struggled with the feeling of helplessness that came with watching you suffer.
“You can’t keep doing this”, he said, his voice softening, though the underlying concern was still there. “You need more than just a few bites here and there. It’s not enough for you or the baby”.
You nodded, understanding his concern but also feeling the weight of the situation. You knew you needed to eat more, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. The nausea had been relentless, and some days, it felt like an uphill battle just to keep anything down. You glanced down at your small bump, the life growing inside you, and sighed. “I know, Ben. I’m doing the best I can”.
He studied you for a moment, his jaw clenched, before he reached out and gently cupped your face in his large hand, his thumb brushing over your cheek. “We’ll get something on the way to the tower, okay?”, he suggested, his tone a mix of concern and determination. “Something you can actually stomach”.
You appreciated his persistence, even if it sometimes came across as gruff or overly protective. He was trying to help in the only way he knew how, and you knew that behind the tough exterior, he was scared—scared for you, scared for the baby, and scared of losing control over a situation he couldn’t just fight his way out of.
“Alright”, you agreed softly, leaning into his touch. “We’ll stop and grab something on the way. Maybe a smoothie or something light”.
Ben nodded, seemingly relieved by your agreement. “Good”, he said. “And if you can’t keep it down, we’ll try something else. I’m not letting you go into work without eating something decent”.
You couldn’t help but smile at his determination, even as you felt a twinge of guilt for making him worry so much. “You’re not gonna let this go, are you?”, you teased lightly, though there was a warmth in your voice.
He raised an eyebrow, his expression softening slightly as he looked down at you. “You’re damn right I’m not”, he replied, his tone firm but affectionate. “I’m not taking any chances with you or the baby".
You sighed, leaning into Ben’s touch, feeling the weight of his concern and your own frustration settling heavily between you. “Maybe we should start the medication”, you mumbled, almost to yourself. It had been on your mind for a while, but you’d both been hesitant to take that step unless it was absolutely necessary.
Ben’s hand paused on your cheek, his expression tightening at your words. He didn’t like the idea of you needing medication, not when there was still a chance you could manage without it. His protective instincts were warring with the rational part of him that knew you couldn’t keep going like this.
“I still think we should hold off on the medication”, he said, his voice firm but gentle. “Let’s try to manage it naturally a little longer".
You looked up at him, seeing the deep lines of worry etched into his face, and you knew this wasn’t just about avoiding medication. It was about the fear of the unknown, about trying to protect you both in the only way he knew how—by being cautious, by controlling what he could. But you were tired, and every day seemed like a struggle just to keep going.
“I’m just so exhausted, Ben”, you whispered, the admission slipping out before you could stop it. “I want to be strong, but it’s getting harder to keep up”.
His eyes softened at your words, and he pulled you closer, wrapping you in his arms. The tension in his body relaxed slightly as he held you, as if trying to absorb some of the burden you were carrying. “I know, sweetheart”, he murmured into your hair, his voice thick with emotion. “I wish I could take it all away for you”.
You rested your head against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. “You’ve already done so much”, you said softly, closing your eyes. “I just… I don’t want to feel like I’m failing”.
“You’re not failing”, he said quickly, pulling back just enough to look you in the eyes.
Ben looked at you intently, his gaze softening further as he saw the exhaustion and doubt in your eyes. He held you a moment longer, as if hoping to transfer some of his strength to you. Then, after what felt like an eternity but was really only a few seconds, he sighed heavily, the weight of the situation clear in the sound.
Finally, he straightened up, letting out a deep breath as if to steel himself for the day ahead. He looked down at you with a mixture of resolve and tenderness.
“Come on”, he said quietly, his voice steady but gentle. “Let’s get ready”.
You looked at his outstretched hand, then up at him. You reached out, placing your hand in his, letting him pull you to your feet.
As you stood, Ben kept his hand in yours, his grip firm and reassuring.
He guided you to the bedroom, helping you find something comfortable yet professional to wear. He was always aware of the balance you had to strike—looking put together enough for the tower but still being comfortable given how challenging each day had become. As you dressed, you could feel his eyes on you, watching every move you made.
When you were finally dressed, Ben grabbed your coat and held it out for you, his hands steady even though you knew he was still worried. You slipped it on, and he adjusted the collar before taking a step back to look you over. A grin spreading across his face as he took in the sight of you. Despite everything, he couldn’t help but appreciate how you looked, his gaze lingering with a mixture of affection and pride. “Looking hot”, he said with a playful glint in his eye, the comment cutting through the tension of the morning.
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at his remark, though a small smile tugged at the corners of your lips. “Really, Ben?”, you asked, though there was warmth in your voice. His lightheartedness was a welcome distraction from the worry that had been weighing on both of you.
He shrugged, unrepentant. “Just telling it like it is”.
You laughed softly, shaking your head as you opened your coat and turned slightly to look at yourself from different angles. “No bump showing?”, you asked, glancing at him for reassurance. You weren’t quite ready to let everyone at the tower know about the pregnancy yet, and you were still conscious of whether your growing belly was visible.
Ben’s eyes followed your movements, his gaze softening as he watched you. “Nope”, he said, stepping closer and brushing his hand lightly over your stomach. “No bump showing at all. You look perfect”.
You let out a small sigh of relief, nodding as you closed your coat again. “Good”, you murmured, feeling a bit more at ease.
After Ben made a quick stop at your favorite smoothie store, he handed you a large cup filled with your go-to blend of fruits and greens, making sure it was something light and easy on your stomach. He also picked up a healthy sandwich for you, insisting you eat it before getting too caught up in work.
As you both rode up the elevator at the tower, you sipped your smoothie, feeling a little more settled. Ben stood beside you, his hand resting on your back in that familiar, comforting way. The ride was quiet, with only the soft hum of the elevator filling the space.
A few floors up, the elevator slowed to a stop, and the doors slid open to reveal Frenchie and MM standing there, mid-conversation. They both looked up, surprised to see you and Ben already inside.
Frenchie’s eyes widened in mock surprise as the elevator doors opened to reveal you and Ben already inside. “Well, look at this! On time for once”, he teased, stepping in with MM close behind. “I didn’t think it was possible. What’s the occasion? Did you finally get your act together, or did you have to drag Ben out of bed?”.
Ben’s expression darkened slightly, his usual gruffness amplified by Frenchie’s relentless teasing. “Keep it up and see what happens”, he muttered, his hand tightening on your back protectively. You could feel the tension in him, even as you tried to enjoy the lighthearted banter.
Frenchie, never one to back down from poking the bear, grinned wider. “What’s wrong, Soldier Boy? You seem extra grumpy today. She not letting you get your beauty sleep? Or is it something else she’s not letting you do?”. He raised an eyebrow suggestively, his tone dripping with innuendo.
Ben’s eyes narrowed, and you could feel him bristling beside you. “Watch your mouth”, he growled, his voice low and dangerous, though you knew Frenchie’s comments were mostly harmless.
MM, sensing the rising tension, chimed in with a chuckle. “Frenchie, you’re asking for trouble”, he said, shaking his head slightly. “You know how he gets”.
Frenchie just shrugged, clearly enjoying himself. “I’m just saying, he seems a little more… pent-up than usual. Maybe (Y/N) should let him—”.
Before Frenchie could finish his sentence, Ben cut him off, his voice rough but controlled. “Don’t fucking finish that thought”, he warned.
You couldn’t help but grin slightly at the situation, despite the tension in the elevator. You knew Ben was on edge, and Frenchie’s teasing—while meant in good fun—wasn’t helping matters. You placed a calming hand on Ben’s chest, feeling the tension in his muscles as you looked over at Frenchie with a raised eyebrow.
“Frenchie, seriously, just stop it”, you said, your voice light but firm. “Or Ben really will kick your ass”.
Frenchie laughed, raising his hands in mock surrender, but the glint in his eyes showed he was still having too much fun with the situation. “Alright, alright”, he said, backing off slightly. “I know when to quit. But man, you’ve got to learn to lighten up a bit”.
Ben grunted, still not entirely amused. His hand on your back was steady, a grounding presence that kept him from snapping back too harshly. “I’m fucking plenty light”, he muttered under his breath.
You leaned closer to Ben, giving him a reassuring squeeze. You both knew that the last few days had been tough—your ongoing nausea had definitely affected your usual intimacy, and it was something that weighed on him more than he liked to admit. He wasn’t just grumpy; he was worried, protective, and feeling a bit helpless, all of which combined into the gruff demeanor that Frenchie had walked into this morning.

Too Much Birthday
A sequel of sorts to my @jilytoberfest fic for Day 11 (Small Touches) Written for Day 14, prompt:Surprise Party!
Might be a contender for the fluffiest thing I've ever written if I'm being honest...
AO3 Link Here
“Wow, my mates truly have no shame do they?”
Lily creaks open the door to the boy’s dorm. Records and jumpers litter the floor all the way to where James is leaned up in his bed, a copy of Transfiguration Travails open on his knee.
“Nope—absolutely none for the whole lot of them, but don’t act like you are so shocked.”
James puts the magazine down and sits up. Lily tries not to let her eyes settle on where his shirt is unbuttoned three places more than it should, but the backdrop of his bed is making it even more difficult to ignore. She wonders if he hadn’t just broken up with Maelle a week ago would he be somewhere else, somewhere more festive, rather than holing up in his room.
“Ok Evans. Go on, tell me the pitch.” He smirks and crosses his arms behind his head.
“You aren’t allowed to go downstairs until Sirius comes to get you.”
She says it in her most stern, prefect voice, specifically leaving out some key words in the paraphrasing. What Sirius actually said was to distract him, but seeing as they were alone with his bed easily accessible, the word sounded too charged to repeat.
“Mhm, just what I thought.” An amused smile tugs at his face. “And what is stopping me from just muscling my way past you and down the stairs?”
“I guess my bizarre loyalty to following directions.”
James’ eyes narrow and suddenly Lily wishes she hadn’t agreed to be his keeper for the unforeseeable future. After his break-up, things had been weird between them. He had stopped coming to study in the library, no longer even passing her notes when they were both bored in History of Magic. In all honesty, Sirius coming to her for this favor was the only indication that she wasn’t out of his life entirely.
Perhaps that’s why she agreed to do it, despite knowing how dangerous it is to be left alone with Potter in his room. Because, well, she misses him.
James stands up from the bed and takes a small step forward, eyes narrowed like a cat on the hunt. Lily plays along. She’s been around him long enough to know what his brand of mischief looks like. She takes a wider stance, arms up and poised to fight.
She waits for him to start running at her, maybe make a zig zag approach and slip past. Instead, he walks slowly— deliberate with his steps and a coy smile curling his lips.
Stopping right in front of her, he pushes his hands in his pockets, wildly amused. It's close enough to where she can feel his body heat emanate into her space.
“I’d like to get by now.”
“No chance, Potter.”
Quicker than she can comprehend, she is lifted off the ground. They have never touched like this before but inexplicably she is now in his embrace, being pushed against his chest to hover just a few centimeters away from the floor— a far cry from the knee touches and playful smacks they give each other in the library. She lets out a squeal of surprise, then a pealing Oh! as the reality of his arms, his chest, his gleefully stupid expression all click into place.
He drops her suddenly, eyes wide with remorse. Both hands run through his hair.
“Oh Merlin, I’m so sorry, that was out of line.” He scrubs a hand down his face, attempting to figure out what compelled him to cross the invisible line that separated friendship from something else entirely.
“Hey, it’s fine. I was playing along.”
An understatement; it was more than fine, brilliant even to finally feel what the embrace of James Potter felt like.
He looks around the room, clearly no longer feeling comfortable with the situation. She wants to say there are no hard feelings— but what she really wants is for him to do it again.
“Look, you can tell Sirius that I’ll keep myself up here and you can–”
“No really, it's fine. We were just having a laugh–calling each other’s bluff.” He looks at her with uncertainty but she ignores it.
“Ok, new idea. Why don’t you give me a grand tour of your room?”
James blinks. Any wariness about their previous incident erases from his face as he raises his eyebrows and gestures broadly to the room, spinning around once in place for effect.
“Well—here it is.”
Lily snorts. “That’s not what I mean asshole—I meant your side of the room. Knowing you, you have all kinds of weird bits and bobs hiding around.”
She doesn’t wait for an invitation, walking past him and towards the bed she found him sitting on when she entered. James follows quick at her heels, juggling between bewildered and excited.
“Alright Potter, let's see it.”
She looks around his space. In many ways, it's a visual microcosm of him: a little messy, but with a clear method to the madness. He gestures to the bed, amusement fully restored on his face.
“Well, that’s my bed—I use it for sleeping.”
“Alright, good start.” She can feel a smile cracking on her face.
“And that’s my broom–I use it for quidditch.”
“Groundbreaking.”
“And those are my books—I use them for reading.”
She can’t help but laugh at the stupidity of it all–not even just the tour but everything about the evening so far.
“Wow Potter. Have you ever thought of going into the hospitality business? You make an incredible tour guide.”
She flops herself down on the side of the bed nearest to a stack of books on the nightstand and grabs for the one separated from the rest. He stands there for a moment, eyes lingering on her with red blooming beneath the wire rim of his glasses before sitting next to her, knee jostling hers as the bed moves from his weight.
Lily turns the book in her hand. “The Animal Instinct: My life as the first Animagus.”
He clears his throat. “I like biographies—especially ones written by old bats that make me fall asleep.”
Lily opens the book to where it is marked and recognizes her handwriting on the piece of parchment holding his place. James makes a noise of discomfort, but Lily pulls the note out of his reach.
It is months old, but she recognizes it immediately. It was one of the notes she passed to him during Professor Binns’ lecture on the Thelema Inquisition Act of 1935. Handwriting untidy and smudged, the note reads:
Remind me to tell you about the stupid thing I did in Potions this morning.
It meant nothing really. She couldn’t even remember what stupid thing she had been referring to. Yet, the note was there nonetheless, passing through his hand each time he read before bed.
“I just needed something to mark my page and it was the first thing I found,” he equivocates, running a hand through his hair.
She doesn’t respond, continuing to reread the note. It is a testament to better days—days where James and her were unquestionably mates.
“Hey, can I talk to you about something?”
Maybe it’s because of the note or maybe because she has just invaded his personal space, but she wants to be honest for once.
“After you and Maelle broke up, you started to act really weird with me–like we weren’t friends anymore.” He doesn’t say anything, looking down at his hands that rest in his lap.
“--I understand that you are probably going through a lot, but—I miss you. I just hope you know that if you want to talk, I’m here for you.”
She is staring ahead, but a calloused hand turns her face towards him and his lips meet hers. Suddenly, she can’t think anymore, can’t even remember why she is sitting in that room with him, but she can feel his mouth: warm and soft and gone as fast as it came.
“In all honesty Evans, I have just wanted to do that.”
His hand is still on her cheek and she pulls him back, already feeling addicted to the smell of his skin and how his lips know the perfect pressure to press into hers.
Their kisses are full of smiles and laughter as much as sighs and groans of contentment. Even after what seems like eternity, neither pulls away, both able to feel that anything beyond their space together is a speck of dust in comparison.
“Sirius will probably call for us soon–” She says it just as a matter of fact, but her mind is very far from whatever his mates have prepared for him for the rest of the evening.
“Don’t care. Don’t need a party,” he says through his kisses, each one as tender and loving as the last.
“You sure? I heard Sirius got you a real lion—”
“I’m not one for extravagance—I’m very modest as you know.”
She laughs and he catches it with his mouth. Joy bursting from both of them.
“Going down there would be too much birthday, I reckon. Might as well play it safe and stay up here.”
She lets him keep kissing her, only stopping so they tangle closer together. She knows eventually Sirius will come bounding up the stairs, searching for the man of the hour, but until then, she will keep on holding him close, happiness more infectious with each passing second.
After all, it is his birthday.

Hi! May I request a sequel to "my little love" for how jake responds to max calling him dad/daddy for the first time? or jake being cute with max and your shared kids (bc i KNOW y'all don't stop after the first one lol)
i'm sorry it took me so long to respond to this but HELL YEAH and i'm extra sorry i didn't post this for a while b/c i wasn't sure about how it turned out in general...anyways, i hope you enjoy : ')
my future || jake "hangman" seresin
summary: as written above! this is a sequel to the headcanon my little love, which i LOVED writing w my whole heart.
settling into married life was surprisingly not difficult. you'd already spent so much time around hangman that forever felt so comfortable
now everyone is so happy and in high spirits. but max is significantly happier than them all and it's so wholesome to see
rooster, or "fairy godmother" (max likes to call him the latter....yes...godmother, not godfather. you don't know why but it's so funny, especially when you watch rooster react to this), is always there to take care of your kiddo when you're busy
he let him sit in his F-14 and take a picture with him :)
and you're paranoid and worrying the whole time but rooster's like "relax, i got him" and he's super chill about it
"he's gonna be a pilot. better than you, even," you leaned over and gave your husband a look
"i think so!"
the kid lives and breathes top gun. and now that you've moved in with hangman, you're only a few minutes' walk from base, making it easy to go back and forth.
when you're working at the hard deck, penny sits him by the nearest booth with a milkshake and some old books and toys
if one of the uncles or phoenix wasn't busy, they'd come over to keep him entertained
and you know when hangman's done for the day when you see max break into his signature grin. you've noticed that you only really see it around him
so you're celebrating his fourth birthday today. it's insane, because he already speaks like a six year old (hangman says it's because you're also smart af. but, being the cocky lil shit he is, fanboy likes to take the credit for it. i mean, the guy majored in biochem, so he knows his stuff)
it's an off day for everyone, so they're able to come help decorate the place. you had the idea to surprise your son, so while everyone was getting ready, fanboy was with max by the beach, playing soccer. they'd come back in an hour and boom!
by the end of things, the hard deck doesn't look like the hard deck anymore. it looks like max's paradise—a kiddie version of top gun, you realize. your heart melts because 🥺🥺🥺
everyone hides when they hear fanboy and max coming in
and then you all jump up from your hiding spots and yell "SURPRISE" and he starts grinning again
and then the kid runs straight towards hangman, giggling in pure delight
"daddy!" he yells
you're all like wait wtf
did he just
say
oh
hangman has to stop for a moment before picking him up. you can see him tearing up bc this is the first time max has ever said this
it's definitely really fulfilling to watch. when he was a baby and screamed and cried for hours at a time out of nowhere, you knew it wasn't always just from tiredness. or being hungry. or whatnot
the rest of the night you're all emotional af and max notices
"daddy why are you crying?"
there go the waterworks...more tears slip down jake's face 🥺😭
"because i'm happy!"
"people cry when they are sad! like when uncle fanboy loses to uncle payback!"
"HEY! kid, i thought you were on my side"
"so, i'm your dad now, huh?"
"forever and ever and ever and ever!"
how could you have gotten so lucky...
you're sitting here in the middle of the hard deck with your family. a family when realization hits. you had a loving husband, and a father, and a child that brightened up your world, and you couldn't have asked for anything more. you finally found someone that wanted forever and wasn't one to back away
now for some more cute moments post-birthday celebration
you take max to base every day right
and hangman will carry him on his shoulders all the time
if he's not done with his flight or workout or whatever, maverick takes his place
or his fairy godmother :)
as soon as he lands, max takes off at the speed of light and goes barreling towards him (how tf is the kid so FAST)
as hangman picks him up he looks at you and says "can we please have another kid. please"
"i want a sister! tell her, daddy!"
"see, the little man agrees"
sorry this ending was so awful i genuinely apologize...

#14 for the prompt list: showering together
Maybe with one of the Suck Club couples? Showering the blood off after a battle (or a messy meal hehe).
of course you can, my dear anon 💜🦇
Shower Scene - vampire!Copia x vampire!Reader
tags: blood, mentions of vampire violence and blood drinking. not beta read - 500 words // could be slightly spoilery if you haven't read The Count // the Suck Club Series? //divider by @gothdaddyissues 💜🧛♀️
It’s days like this that you miss the quiet solitude of the castle. Modern amenities had their perks, but there was something about crawling into that giant bed and pulling the curtains closed after a long hot bath. Instead of ancient stone and creaky pipes, you’re faced with a glass box and surrounded by nothing but endless white tiles in the middle of an already too clean bathroom.
Well, minus the bloody footprints.
“Amore,” Copia sings beyond the door. “I hope you haven’t started without me.”
He’s in high spirits, half-drunk on love and the elevated alcohol content of a little snack the two of you picked up along the way. You hear him stumbling around the hotel room bumping into things and mumbling his way through the lyrics of that 80’s song he loves. He tries to free himself of his clothes, all dull thuds and a soft “oh!” followed by his quiet giggling. He’s lovely like this, these almost playful moods that seem to follow the rush of battle. As the adrenaline wears off, he’ll become needy with a kind of softness that’s reserved only for you.
He bursts through the door without a stitch of clothing and a happy smile, dried blood still clinging to every inch of his skin. You’re in a similar state, covered in the same coppery perfume you can’t wait to wash off. It soaks into everything, leaving the worst stains that—thank to you enhanced senses—you can always smell not matter how much you wash your clothes. Another outfit left crumpled in a heap like a wet towel, ruined by inconsiderate vampire hunters. It’s been a long day—a long year, if you’re honest—full of hard-won battles and sleepless nights.
Steam escapes from the glass enclosure, the water as hot as hellfire. Copia steps under the spray while you’re distracted, groaning as the heat tends to his tense and aching muscles. He turns and offers his hand, helping you step into a shower that’s nearly as large as your old room in the castle. But it isn’t personal space you seek and Copia knows this too well by now. He smiles softly as he pulls you in, humming as your skin meets his.
Your lover washes away the traces of the fight, hands gently smoothing fragrant soaps and bath oils over your body. He whispers his worship of you—his goddess, his Countess—chanting prayers he seals with delicate kisses and the soft brush of his fingers. You worship him right back, of course, lovingly washing your Count’s greying hair while he kneels at your feet and stares up at you in adoration.
It’s an exchange you give freely when he stands, moving your own hands through the coarse hair of his chest and over the softness of his belly. You press your lips to every freckle; kiss every spot or scar he’s ever known or recently earned. This shower may not be as nice as the baths you share in that ancient castle, but the two of you are safe here. Safe and hidden away from a harsh world that would call the two of you monsters. But you never hide from each other, not in your weakest moments or the seemingly mundane ones like this.
anon, this was SUPER helpful in sparking motivation for the upcoming vampire Primo fic so I owe you a double thank you 💜💜
I can't wait to give these two a sequel someday.
the count // more stuff by me

Don’t Like The Lights
Sequel to Flashing Lights series, must read Flashing Lights first to understand
series masterlist
14: Find Someone Like You
I've been waitin' my whole life, to find someone like you. Baby, I want this, I want this to last forever. Baby, I want this, can we make this last forever?
A few days before Jack’s No Place Like Home Tour was set to begin, Maryse and Jack walked into their doctor’s office for another check-up. This wasn’t just any appointment—it was the one where they’d find out the gender of their twins. The anticipation was almost unbearable, but the excitement in the air kept them buzzing with energy.
Maryse, now 14 weeks along, felt a mix of nerves and joy as she lay back on the exam table. Jack stood beside her, his hand firmly clasped in hers, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a soothing rhythm
“Ready to find out if we’re having boys, girls, or one of each?” the doctor asked with a warm smile, her hand hovering over the ultrasound machine.
Jack chuckled, squeezing Maryse’s hand. “I’ve been ready for weeks.”
Maryse smiled, though her heart was racing. She had no preference, but the reality of finding out made everything feel even more real. The doctor moved the ultrasound wand over her growing belly, and they both stared at the screen, holding their breath.
The familiar, rhythmic sound of their babies’ heartbeats filled the room, steady and strong. The doctor’s eyes scanned the monitor, and she smiled.
“Okay, here we go,” she said, her tone light and cheerful. “Baby number one… is a boy!”
The words hung in the air for a moment, as if time itself had slowed down. Jack’s eyes widened, and a slow grin spread across his face. “A boy?” he repeated, his voice filled with awe.
Maryse’s breath caught in her throat as she looked at Jack’s, whose face broke into a wide, proud grin. “A boy,” he murmured, almost in disbelief. “I’m going to have a son.”
Tears welled up in Maryse's eyes, but before she could fully process the emotion, the doctor continued. “And baby number two… is a girl!”
Maryse felt a wave of emotions crash over her. Joy, excitement, love—it was all too much to contain. She laughed, her eyes welling up with tears as she looked at Jack. “A boy and a girl,” she whispered, almost as if saying it aloud would make it more real.
Jack let out a joyful laugh, bending down to kiss her forehead. “Baby, did you hear that? We're having one of each! I can’t believe it.”
Maryse could only nod, her emotions too overwhelming to speak. She squeezed his hand, grounding herself in the moment. “I can’t believe it either… they’re going to be so loved…and spoiled.”
Jack’s eyes were practically sparkling as he kissed her again, this time on the lips. “This is… this is perfect. They’re going to be perfect.” he said, his voice soft but full of love.
He leaned down, pressing a hand to her bump. “You hear that, guys? Daddy loves you already.”
As they left the doctor’s office, Jack couldn’t stop smiling, his excitement practically radiating off him. In the car, he reached over and placed his hand on her belly again, grinning. “I can’t wait to tell everyone.”
Maryse chuckled, resting her hand on top of his. “We can tell them soon. But let’s just enjoy this moment a little longer, just the two of us.”
He nodded, his eyes still full of joy. “Yeah, let’s keep them to ourselves a little longer.” He then looked at her with a softer gaze, his tone full of sincerity. “I’m so in love with you, and I’m so excited for this. I just want you to know that.”
“I know,” she whispered, leaning into his touch. “I’m in love with you too, and I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else.”
As they walked out of the doctor’s office, Maryse couldn’t help but glance up at Jack, a question tugging at the back of her mind. He had been so sure they were going to have two girls, Now that they knew it was one of each, she wondered if he felt any disappointment.
She gently tugged on his hand, slowing their pace. “Are you okay?” she asked, her voice soft. “I know you had your mind made up that it was going to be two girls… Are you upset that it’s not?”
Jack stopped and turned to face her, his expression softening as he looked into her eyes. He shook his head, a smile playing on his lips. “Nah, not at all,” he said, his voice filled with warmth. “I might’ve joked about having two girls, but finding out we’re having a boy and a girl… It’s perfect.”
He reached up, brushing a tear from her cheek with his thumb. “Honestly, I couldn’t be happier,” he continued. “We’re going to have one of each, and that just feels… right. It’s like a little bit of you and a little bit of me, and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Maryse felt a wave of relief wash over her, and she smiled up at him, her heart full. “You’re sure?” she asked, needing to hear it one more time.
He chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss her gently. “I’m sure,” he murmured against her lips. “We’re going to have the best of both worlds, and I can’t wait to meet them.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight hug. “Me neither,” she whispered, feeling more connected to him than ever.
***
Jack bounced around in his dressing room, the familiar hum of pre-show excitement buzzing around him. It was the final show of his "No Place Like Home" tour, and the energy in the air was electric. He could hear the distant roar of fans eagerly waiting, but his mind was somewhere else entirely.
As he finished adjusting his mic, his eyes caught a movement in his dressing room. There she was— Maryse—gliding around the space with that effortless grace that always captivated him. She was wearing a brown body suit that hugged her curves, paired with one of his oversized jackets, left unzipped to reveal her growing bump. The sight made him pause, a slow smile spreading across his face as he took in the vision before him.
It still amazed him-every day, every time he looked at her-that she was carrying their daughter and son. One of each. Seeing her now, her bump more pronounced with each passing week, filled him with a sense of gratitude that words couldn't fully capture.
As Maryse turned slightly, her hand absently resting on her belly, he felt his heart swell with emotion. He couldn't help but walk over, his footsteps soft on the floor. "You look good in my jacket," he said with a playful grin as he approached her.
“Your jacket?” Maryse questioned, wrinkling her nose up at him. “It was in MY closet.”
“The closet I had to give you because you took up all the space in mine?” Jack asked, raising an eyebrow before he slowly guided her backward until her back met the wall. Maryse looked up at him, her breath catching as his hands rested on her waist, his body close enough to feel the heat between them.
“But that doesn’t matter, you look really good,” he murmured, his voice dropping to a low, intimate tone. His eyes traveled down to where her growing bump was barely concealed by the jacket she wore. He couldn’t help but let his hands slide down to rest on her hips, his grip firm but tender.
Maryse bit her lip, cheeks warming as she looked up at him. The way Jack was looking at her made her heart race, and she could feel the warmth of his breath against her skin.
Jack leaned in closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, “If you weren’t already pregnant, tonight would be the night I’d make sure you were.”
The words sent a shiver down her spine, his voice filled with a mix of playfulness and desire that made her pulse quicken. She laughed softly, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as she looked up at him. “Is that so?” she teased, her eyes sparkling.
Before Jack could respond there was a knock on the door singling that he had 5 minutes before he was needed on stage.
“Mm-hmm,” he hummed, his lips ghosting over her jawline, sending a rush of heat through her. “But since you already are, I guess I’ll just have to settle for thinking about it while I’m on stage.”
Maryse rolled her eyes, but her smile betrayed how much she loved these moments with him, the way he could make her feel like she was the only person in the world. “You’re impossible,” she whispered, her hands moving up to rest on his chest.
“And you’re perfect,” he replied, kissing her deeply, leaving her breathless before he finally pulled back, his thumb brushing over her cheek. “Now, I really gotta go. But trust me, I’ll be thinking about you the whole time.”
Jack grinned as he leaned back, taking in the sight of her one more time before the show. He reached for the zipper of the jacket she was wearing, slowly pulling it up to conceal the little secret they were keeping. “Can’t let anyone else find out just yet,” he murmured with a wink, the gesture protective and tender.
Maryse watched him, her heart swelling at how careful he was, how much he cherished these moments with her. Once the jacket was zipped up, hiding the small but significant bump, he took her hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Come on,” he said softly, leading her toward the stage. “You’re gonna watch right next to Mom tonight.”
Maryse followed him, her hand warm in his, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as they made their way to the side of the stage. The energy was building, the roar of the crowd growing louder with every step. But with him by her side, she felt calm, grounded.
When they reached the spot where his mom was waiting, she gave Maryse a knowing smile, already saving a place for her right at the edge of the stage. Jack squeezed her hand one last time before letting go, his eyes lingering on her for just a moment longer.
“I’ll be right here,” she whispered, her voice filled with love and support.
He nodded, feeling the warmth of her words settle deep within him. “I know. That’s all I need.” He leaned in to kiss her cheek, then turned to his mom, also giving her a quick kiss on the cheek as well.
As Jack stepped onto the stage, Maryse settled into her spot right next to Maggie, the roar of the crowd fading into the background as she focused on the performance. But she couldn’t help but notice the way Maggie kept glancing at her, giving her these knowing smiles that made her a little self-conscious. It was like she knew something—like she knew everything.
When the show was in full swing and everyone’s attention was on the stage, Maggie leaned in close, her voice just loud enough to be heard over the music. “So, are you going to tell me, or am I going to have to guess?”
Maryse felt her heart skip a beat, her hand instinctively moving to her barely noticeable bump, hidden under Jack’s jacket. She looked at Maggie, who was watching her with a raised eyebrow, a soft smile playing on her lips. There was no point in pretending anymore.
“Am I that obvious?” Maryse asked, a nervous laugh escaping her.
Maggie chuckled, shaking her head. “Honey, you couldn’t hide it from me if you tried. That little bump might be small, but trust me, I carried two big-headed babies. I know what that feels and looks like.”
Maryse couldn’t help but laugh at that, the tension easing out of her shoulders. “Don’t call him big-headed!” she teased, thinking about how Jack would react if he heard that.
“Too late,” his mom grinned. “And I’m guessing there’s more than one in there, right? You’ve got that glow.”
Maryse sighed, giving in completely. “Yeah, it’s twins. We just found out a couple of days before the tour started.”
Maggie’s eyes lit up with genuine joy. “Twins! Oh, he’s excited! Let me guess, two little girls, right?”
Maryse smiled, shaking her head. “One of each, actually.”
“Oh, I’m sure Jackman is over the moon!”
Maryse nodded, feeling a wave of emotion wash over her. “I know. He’s been so excited ever since we found out.”
Maggie reached over and squeezed Maryse’s hand gently. “I’m so happy for both of you. They’re going to be so loved.”
Maryse smiled, feeling a deep sense of relief and happiness knowing that his mom was just as excited as they were. “Thank you,” she said softly, her voice filled with gratitude.
As the concert continued, Maggie leaned closer to Maryse, her expression softening as she spoke. “You know,” she began, her voice quiet but clear, “I’m so happy you two found each other again. This time last year… he wasn’t himself when you broke up. It was really hard seeing him like that.”
Maryse felt a lump form in her throat as she listened, the memories of that time rushing back. She hadn’t realized how deeply their breakup had affected him, but hearing it from his mom made it all the more real.
“I hated seeing him like that,” Maggie continued, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sadness and relief. “He’s so much happier now, and that’s all I ever wanted for him. I’m just so glad you two got back together.”
The words hit Maryse hard, and she felt her eyes start to well up with tears. She quickly tried to brush it off, forcing a smile as she said, “Sorry, I think the hormones are getting to me.”
But as soon as she said it, she knew it wasn’t just the hormones. “That time was really hard for me too,” she admitted, her voice trembling slightly. “I wasn’t the same without him, and I’m just… I’m so happy we found each other again.”
Maggie gave her a gentle, understanding smile, squeezing her hand once more. “I can see how much you two love each other. And now, with those two sweet babies on the way, I know everything’s going to be just fine.”
Maryse nodded, her heart full as she looked back at the stage, where the man she loved was giving his all. She couldn’t be happier that they had found their way back to each other, and now, they were building a life together.
***
After the concert as soon as Jack got off stage and into the backstage area, Maryse ran toward him and jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist.
Jack caught her effortlessly, laughing as he held her close. “You were amazing tonight,” she whispered breathlessly into his ear, her heart pounding with desire.
He grinned, his hands gripping her thighs as he carried her toward the exit. “You’re the amazing one,” he murmured back, pressing a kiss to her neck as they made their way to the car. He had already told Neelam beforehand that he wasn’t interested in going to the afterparty.
The ride home was a blur of touches and stolen glances, the anticipation building between them. By the time they got to their house, they could barely keep their hands off each other. As soon as the door closed behind them, Jack pinned her against the wall, his lips crashing against hers with a hunger that had been building all night.
Maryse responded eagerly, her fingers tangling in his hair as she kissed him back with equal intensity. He pulled back just long enough to look into her eyes, his voice husky with desire. “Tell me you love me,” he demanded, his hands roaming over her body, leaving a trail of heat in their wake.
“I love you,” Maryse breathed out, her voice trembling with the passion she felt for him.
Jack growled softly, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, “Say it again.”
“I love you,” she repeated, her voice growing stronger, filled with all the emotions she had for him.
“Again,” he urged, his mouth moving to her neck, his teeth grazing her skin in a way that made her gasp.
“I love you,” she said once more, her voice laced with urgency as she pressed herself closer to him.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his eyes dark with desire. “One more time.” he whispered, his breath warm against her lips.
Maryse leaned in, her voice sultry as she whispered against his mouth, “I love you so much it drives me crazy.”
That was all it took. With a growl, Jack captured her lips in a searing kiss, his hands roaming over her body with a newfound intensity. They moved together, stumbling toward the bedroom, their clothes discarded along the way.
By the time they made it to the bed, the air was thick with longing. He laid her down gently, hovering over her as he looked into her eyes. “You’re everything to me,” he said, his voice raw with emotion.
She reached up, cupping his face in her hands as she pulled him down for another kiss. “And you’re everything to me,” she whispered back, her voice filled with all the love she had for him.
***
Later that night, they lay in bed, the room dimly lit by the soft glow of the bedside lamp. They were tangled up in each other, sharing soft whispers and gentle touches, lost in their own little world.
Maryse rested her head on Jack’s chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. The words his mom had said earlier that day echoed in her mind—how happy she was that they had found each other again after the breakup. Maryse couldn’t shake the emotions that were bubbling up inside her, and she knew she needed to say something, even if it meant bringing up the past.
She took a deep breath, her voice barely above a whisper. “I hate to bring up old stuff, but I just… I need to say this.”
Jack shifted slightly, as he looked down at her. “What’s on your mind?” he asked, his voice full of concern
She swallowed, trying to steady her emotions. “Earlier, your mom said something that’s been on my mind all day. She said she’s so happy we found each other again after the breakup… and I’ve been thinking about that a lot.”
Jack tensed up, his gaze growing more intense as he listened.
“I just… I need you to know how much you mean to me,” she continued, her voice trembling slightly. “I know it wasn’t easy when we were apart, and I don’t think I’ve ever really told you just how hard that time was for me, too. I missed you every single day. It felt like a part of me was missing, I never stopped loving you.”
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she blinked them away, not wanting to cry but unable to stop the flood of emotions. “I don’t want to dwell on the past, but I need you to know that you mean more to me than I can even put into words. And I’m just so grateful that we found our way back to each other.”
Jack’s eyes softened, and he gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing away a tear that had escaped. “You don’t have to apologize for bringing it up,” he said quietly. “I think about it too, sometimes. How close we came to losing this… us. But I’m thankful everyday that we didn’t. That we found our way back.”
He leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to her lips, lingering there for a moment as if to seal the words between them. When he pulled back, he looked into her eyes with a depth of emotion that made her heart swell. “You mean everything to me too, you know that? I don’t ever want to go through anything like that again. I need you just as much as you need me.”
Maryse smiled through her tears, feeling a sense of peace settle over her. “I know,” she whispered, snuggling closer to him. “And I don’t ever want to go through that again either. I’m just so glad we’re here, together, right where we’re supposed to be.”
They lay there in the quiet, wrapped up in each other, letting the weight of their words sink in. They had been through so much, and the fact that they were still here, still together, meant everything. As they held onto each other, they knew that whatever came next, they would face it side by side, just like they always had.

Day 15
Oh look! A Sequel! Don’t get used to that.
Yet another pic I colored way after it was sketched.
For context, when I showed No.14 to Val, she commented on how surprisingly normal Mikan’s reaction was in that image. And so I thought about it and was like “yeah wait that’d fry her brain.” So I drew a sequel where Mikan is so shocked and flustered by what Junko just did that she just gives up her sense of reason and logical thinking to just start making out with her. I loved doing the expressions for this one, Junko’s especially. And the kiss? I guarantee that was torturous because I was still not very used to drawing kisses at that point in time. Though for the first kiss of the event I’m pretty happy with it, especially since a later one really bothers me with how I drew it. Foreshadowing~!
Now to cover another aspect of the behind the scenes. One of my very arbitrary, very stupid rules that I imposed upon myself! This one technically was more of a unspoken rule though, so maybe not a good place to start. But fuck it, since this is the only pic that breaks that rule I might as well count it here and start yapping.
Rule 1: I’m not allowed to count sequels as separate days.
There aren’t many examples but there are a few Days of the Event that are made up of several images rather than just a single one. In fact, counting all of them together, including the (at the time of writing) unfinished No.100 and bonus images, there are actually 146 Individual images. This goes even further if you count various comic panels as separate. And there’s even stuff from the more secret surprises of the event that would boost it even more. By all means I hit my goal of 100 pics a while ago. However in my brain, if I just make every separate image it’s own day like with No.14 and No.15 it’d be both a cheap way to get through my count, and also would probably be unsatisfying for anyone who’s actually tuning into this project. Now am I actually correct in thinking that? Probably not. But hey I acknowledged the rules I forced onto myself are arbitrary and stupid, so that means I’m absolved of my foolish brain! Right?
Point is while there are images that definitely relate to each other, I didn’t make any direct sequels to posts that wouldn’t be included together as a single day.

TRANSFORMERS ONE BLURB — OPTIMUS PRIME X MEGATRON
Based off my tf one alt clock fic! You don’t have to go back and read the other post but it will give some insight to how I envision how they got to this point.
This is a decent time jump btw from current events and closer to the time of where my fanfic takes place tho. Also excuse the writing, the last fic i wrote for the transformers fandom was when i was 14… im in my early twenties 😭
ty for reading and support the official release, i want a sequel pls
🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
Optimus looked up at Megatron with half lidded eyes. He was deciding whether or not to wake the sleeping titan of a bot. It’s been awhile since they’d gotten any alone time since the recent quintesson strike.
The dust was finally beginning to settle though.
High-Guard has always been more than effective with ridding Cybertron of hostile forces since Sentinels fall. With Megatron earning back the trust of not only the citizens, but Optimus’ as well, he was able to easily climb rank to first lieutenant of the Cybertronian Defense Corps and become official commanding officer of High-Guard. Megatron is a protector, and has been actively putting the safety of homeworld before his needs.. even if it means grinding his gears down to scrap.
Optimus was tired, yes. He fights against quintessons and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty just like his friends and colleagues, but, there’s no doubt that most of a Primes work is done in accordance to his people’s needs. And right now that need is diplomacy, organizing society, & supervising the rebirth of a nation. Ultimately, Prime’s job is mostly relegated to delegation as of now.
Megatron however, doesn’t have the luxury of talking things out. He’s not just tired, he’s completely exhausted. Constantly having to fight on the frontline and keep the enemy at bay was wearing on him in a way that was downright worrisome. The guy has never been good at hiding his feelings either, sincerity is just his nature. Don’t get it twisted though, Megatron’s essence is that of a warrior, a gladiator. It’s what’s kept him alive to outmatch all his opponents again and again, but also what makes his lover so anxious.
Optimus pressed his palm to the center of Megatron’s chassis.
The young Prime took a moment to think a second longer, ‘I shouldn’t be selfish.’ He let his hand fall gently from Megatron’s chest.
“You don’t wanna tell me about your day?”
Optimus snapped his head up to met Megatron’s heavily lidded bright red eyes. “You- …Did I wake you? I didn’t mean to-“
“No, I was-” Megatron yawned between words “I was waiting for you.” A tired smile appeared on his face, it was playful looking as his eyes were still squinted into happy beams of red.
Optimus gave a subtle breathy chuckle “In your stasis chamber?” His arms crossed over his chest.
“Uhhhm, well clearly- I uh..”
Optimus raised a brow knowingly.
“Yeah I fell asleep. You caught me, Prime.” Megatron stepped out of his pod and Optimus naturally backed away just enough to make room for his larger frame.
Ever since taking on an aircraft transformation, Megatron looks down at him. It was initially a weird adjustment, but a welcomed one all the same. Optimus allowed himself to be enveloped by large limbs, and embraced gently.
“I missed you.” Megatron kissed the top of his lovers helm “Like, a lot actually, I feel like we never see each other anymore… It’s not fair.”
Optimus stayed quiet. Keeping his head tucked under Megatron’s chin, he loved listening to him. From complaining, to nonsensical ramblings, nearly any and everything over time became more and more melodic. Shifting the weight of them both, Megatron leaned against the doors of his stasis chamber while continuing to hold Optimus.
“I wish we could just have a day, just one day alone together.” This time Optimus yawned, “Oh sorry, is my yearning for your undivided attention boring you?” Megatron asked sarcastically.
Optimus half chuckled and half hummed to himself as he rubbed an eye. “Don’t be such a glitch, Mega, besides you fell asleep first.” The bot negged playfully.
“Tch, you’re the glitch.” Megatron subtly opened his stasis pod again and pulled Optimus in alongside himself. “And now you’re trapped.” The silver bot smirked to himself.
“Trapped definitely insinuates this isn’t something I enjoy… I’m immensely enjoying this by the way.”
“Uh huh.” Megatron rolled his red optics. They were dimmed as he began feeling the effects of the pod working.
They both started to doze off.
Optimus however, after a couple of moments opened his eyes just enough to gauge where Megaton’s hand was. He grabbed it without second thought right as he felt his free hand being caressed.
Optimus smiled to himself and rested his against the top of Megaton’s chest as they intertwined their fingers.
“Yeah, I missed you too.”

Matt Bors’s “Justice Warriors: Vote Harder”
On SEPTEMBER 24th, I'll be speaking IN PERSON at the BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY!
There's no political satirist working today quite like Matt "Mr Gotcha" Bors, whose 2023 masterpiece Justice Warriors just got a timely – and brutally funny – sequel, Justice Warriors: Vote Harder:
https://www.mattbors.com/store/p/justice-warriors-ffzgn
You've doubtless seen Matt Bors's work, which has repeatedly attained viral liftoff, most notably with his Mr Gotcha strips, easily one of the most useful additions to online political debate in internet history:
https://thenib.com/mister-gotcha/
Last year, Bors, along with Ben Clarkson and Felipe Sobreiro, published Justice Warriors, a postapocalyptic cyberpunk graphic novel in the vein of Warren Ellis's classic Transmetropolitan:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/22/libras-assemble/#the-uz
Justice Warriors is the tale of Bubble City, a domed enclave walled off from the teeming masses of the UZ (which stands for "Uninhabited Zone" – see what they did there?). Bubble City runs on vibes, therapy-speak, social media nonsense, memes and garbage hot-takes. And while there's a lot of broad satire here, the thing that makes Justice Warriors stand out is how its creators do the relatively straightforward futuristic exercise of asking themselves, "What if deeply unserious nonsense was taken seriously?"
Others have done this before – Mike Judge's Idiocracy, say – but Bors, Clarkson and Sobreiro attain a density of sight gags, trenchant wordplay, and outrageous cyberpunk imagery that is just next level. Think Al Jaffee meets William Gibson, with art direction by Vaughn Bode, who's had one too many at the Mos Eisley Cantina. To that, mix in all kinds of MAD Magazine style fake ads and social media postings, layering joke on gag, all of it walking the fine line between "you gotta cry" and "you gotta laugh."
Justice Warriors did big numbers, selling out three printings, and now the gang is back together for the sequel, Vote Harder, which drops just in time for the final, all consuming election-season media apocalypse.
Vote Harder sees Bubble City facing its first election in living memory, as the mayor – who inherited his position from his "powerful, strapping Papa" – loses a confidence vote by the city's trustees. They're upset with his plan to bankrupt the city in order to buy a laser powerful enough to carve his likeness into the sun as a viral stunt for the launch of his comeback album. The trustees are in no way mollified by the fact that he expects to make a lot of money selling special branded sunglasses that allow Bubble City (and the mutant hordes of the Uninhabited Zone) to safely look into the sun and see what their tax dollars bought.
So it's time for an election, and the two candidates are going hard: there's the incumbent Mayor Prince; there's his half-sister and ex-girlfriend, Stufina Vipix XII, and there's a dark-horse candidate Flauf Tanko, a mutant-tank cyborg that went rogue after a militant Home Owners Association disabled it and its owners abandoned it. Flauf-Tanko is determined to give the masses of the Uninhabited Zone the representation they've been denied for so long, despite the structural impediments to this (UZers need to complete a questionnaire, sub-forms, have three forms of ID, and present a rental contract, drivers license, work permit and breeding license. They also need to get their paperwork signed in person at a VERI-VOTE location, then wait 14 days to get their voter IDs by mail. Also, districts of 2 million or more mutants are allocated the equivalent of only 250,000 votes, but only if 51% of eligible voters show up to the polls; otherwise, their votes are parceled out to other candidates per the terms of the Undervoting and Apathy Allotment Act).
Despite the structural advantages afforded to Mayor Prince – like the fact that residents of District 12 on floors 120-145 of the Bubble each get 2048 votes, while District 1 (floors 1-7) only get a single vote – he's not taking any chances. Officer Schitt (a humanoid poop emoji) and the lovelorn Officer Swamp (an anthropomorphic catfish) are each prowling the Uz . Swamp – suffering from a head injury and gripped by a delusion that a TV cowboy has sent him to infiltrate the Flauf Tanko campaign – is playing spy/provocateur, while Schitt hunts dangerous subversives.
What unfolds is a funny, bitter, superb piece of political satire that could not be better timed.
The paperback edition of The Lost Cause, my nationally bestselling, hopeful solarpunk novel is out this month!

[FIC] London Fog
Rated: M Word Count: 3504 Tags: Fluffbruary, Fluffbruary 2024, sort of failed at being fluff though, human AU, post-vacation blues, Dream of the Endless is a stubborn miserable bastard, Dream of the Endless is a sad wet cat, divorced Dream, hopeful ending don't worry, background Hob & Johanna, Hob and Johanna are besties, Jessamy for MVP, Jessamy and Dream are besties, no actual smut herein, but there IS one spicy recollection midway through
Sequel to Caribbean Sunset. This was supposed to be a quick fluffy scene of parting ways at the end of the cruise, of Hob communicating respect for Dream's boundaries along with the desire to see him again. But then 'what are Dream's reasons for hesitating' suddenly turned into backstory full of angst and depression and steered us into post-vacation blues and this is not the fluff I set out to write but I am happy enough with it all the same.
If anyone is sensitive to topics of marital fidelity and full disclosure, please click the read-more and scroll to the bottom for quick spoilers before proceeding.

Summary: Dream does his best to ignore Possibilities while he copes with returning from holiday
On AO3
The ship's main atrium is crowded with passengers queuing up for debarkation, loud with the murmur of many voices, but there is only one voice that hold's Dream's attention at the moment.
"I mean. We both live in London; it's not unthinkable we might get together again? Have a drink, grab a bite, get to know each other better?"
Hob's tone is bright, hopeful; the light in his eyes is so very alluring, and Dream is almost tempted.
But circumstances do not permit him to indulge in such fantasies, not now that his cruise has come to an end—the divorce continues to drag on, courtesy of Alex's father, and Dream is uncertain beyond that whether he even wants any relationship ever again; each attempt has gone worse than the last and Hob…Hob is sweet, and kind, and an excellent lay, and Dream. Would not wish to drag him into the festering detritus of his own life.
He has not even left the ship, yet, and already the weight and gloom of reality are pressing heavy at his shoulders.
How he longs to stretch this holiday into infinity, to never have to go back.
He steels himself, forcibly pushes the gathering melancholy away, meets Hob's lovely gaze with a sad smile.
"Hob. I adore you; I hope that much is clear. But my life is. Convoluted, at present, and I am. Messy, at relationships, in general. I do not want to taint—" He blows out a breath, tries again. "This has been wonderful, amazing, so very easy; we fuck and we frolic and we have no cares, no responsibilities, and I would book both of us onto the turnaround cruise immediately if it were feasible, so that we might continue. I am not looking forward to returning to all that waits for me at home."
"All the more reason for a breath of something new, something you could carry over from holiday?" Hob's face is so open, so reasonable and guileless and hopeful.
Dream shakes his head, adamant. "As I said, I am messy. In the ordinary day-to-day, in the mundanity of work and circumstance I. I grow neglectful—cruel, I have been told, many times—and…you will grow weary, of my demands, my eccentricities, of my capricious moods and sullen temper."
"I won't, though," Hob says, smiling, as if it is truly that simple. They have been acquainted for a week, much of which was spent in vigorous activities other than deep conversation, and yet Hob speaks with firm conviction as if they have known one another for months. "But I get it. A fling on holiday is not a real relationship." He tugs on his ear, offers his sweet, warm smile. "All the same, I really like you, and I would love the chance to see if we could be something more. So." He holds out a hand. "Phone, love?"
Dream is responding to the easy endearment before he even realizes, unlocking his phone and handing it to Hob.
"Here's what we'll do," Hob says, fingers flying over the screen. "I'll give you my number. Just that. And if you ever want to call, you can. I don't have your info so I can't violate that boundary. It's entirely up to you." He hands the phone back to Dream and there he is, 'Hob' in his contacts, just a number, with a cartoon lemur from the default gallery as his pic. "If you delete it, if you never call, so be it. I'll always remember you fondly. But if you decide you'd like to see me again, please know I'd love to hear from you. Even if you don't want to date, if you just need to let off some steam no strings attached, I would be happy to be there for you." He smiles, soft and just a little self-depracating. "I'm shooting my shot, as they say, so you know where I stand. But the power's in your hands, dove; the choice is yours. And I'll respect it, whatever you decide."
Dream blinks, clutches his phone tightly, a little bit breathless at how astute Hob is. He's barely mentioned his life in any depth when they did talk; Hob was a holiday tryst in the midst of his interminable ongoing divorce and he hadn't intended on any deeper connection or true getting-to-know-one-another conversations. At most he may have mentioned a 'controlling ex' in passing and he genuinely cannot say for sure; Hob has kept him suitably occupied with other thoughts.
But here is Hob, either extrapolating from that comment or running entirely off intuition, handing him full autonomy over whether or not he wants to pursue any further acquaintance.
"Thank you," he says, eyes pricking with the threat of tears. Perhaps—perhaps—
But no. Best not to even think about 'perhaps'. There is too much to sort out at home still; he does not need to indulge in what-ifs and flights of fancy.
"Can I kiss you? One last time?" Hob asks, and Dream throws his arms about Hob's neck and kisses him first, heedless of the crowded atrium.
It is heaven, the soft slide of Hob's mouth fitting to his, the gentle teasing curl of his tongue, and Dream realizes with a sudden fierce ache that he is going to miss it terribly.
It is more difficult than he would like to end it.
"Goodbye, Hob Gadling," he murmurs, close to Hob's lips, and reluctantly steps back. "Thank you for making this cruise so wonderfully memorable." His hands find both of Hob's, squeeze them.
Hob smiles, soft and bright and the slightest bit sad. He leans in, presses a lingering kiss to the corner of Dream's mouth. "Bye, Dream," he says, gentle and quiet, and then he's sliding from Dream's grasp, turning, walking away.
Dream watches him go, watches as Johanna emerges from the crowd to corral him; he is still watching when Hob glances back over his shoulder with that same beatific melancholy in his smile. Dream gives him a small wave, tries his best to smile in return.
And then Hob is gone, swallowed up in the throng of passengers streaming into the gangway, and Dream deflates.
"This dream is over," he mutters to himself, and makes his way off the ship.
~ Hob and Johanna had boarded a bus for Disney World; there is no chance of encountering them at the airport. The thought gives Dream bitter resolve as he checks his luggage at the kiosk and makes his way through security, finds the first class lounge, settles in to wait for his 6pm departure time.
Two hours in to the transatlantic flight, long limbs comfortably folded into his first class aisle seat and beginning to protest the stillness, he sets his mind to wandering. How wonderful it might have been, to change his plans, to accompany Hob to 'the happiest place on earth'. Hob has been delightful company in and out of the bedroom and Johanna was agreeable enough; he had immensely enjoyed the time they spent together on St. Thomas. He has never been to any Disney park, on any continent, and while it has never seemed like something he would enjoy he now finds himself imagining such a visit in Hob's company, laughing at Hob's childlike delight as they queue for rides and attractions, shopping for souvenirs, sampling street foods and specialty offerings of every kind.
But no. It would be rude to invite himself on the next leg of Hob's holiday with Hob's friend; Dream had already monopolized Hob's time on the cruise and while Johanna had been very adaptable in that regard, Dream would not wish to impose further.
Besides which. There are meetings with solicitors to be attended, in hopes of finally moving the onerous divorce proceedings to a close; his company and accounts need his attention and it would be unfair of him to expect Jessamy to shoulder that load for longer simply because he is weary of his responsibilities and far too attached to his holiday fling.
With a sigh, he pushes all thoughts aside and closes his eyes, attempting sleep.
~ Jessamy meets him at Heathrow after he's cleared customs in the morning; he is tired, and grateful for her brisk efficiency in getting him to the waiting car and home to his sleek modern flat. Today is for dealing with jet lag; tomorrow he will return to the office and his responsibilities full time. All the same, there are things he can go over with Jessamy in the name of catching up and being prepared, once he's had a nap. Airline travel is not conducive to meaningful sleep.
"Good to have you home, Dream," Jessamy says, as she rolls the suitcase she brought in over to where he's dropped the rest of his luggage.
"Thank you, Jessamy." He hopes she understands that he means for everything, not just that single sentiment; she makes his life run smoothly in a way he can hardly imagine being without.
"Of course." She flashes a cheeky grin. "You must tell me about all the exciting and unmentionable shenanigans you got up to, after you've slept. I'll be back this afternoon so we can touch base properly."
Dream collapses in his bed after she's left, the sheets crisp and clean and the pillowcase cool against his face, and dreams of Hob's hands on his skin.
~ He settles back into his mundane routines easily, as if he's never left, the same way it always happens when he returns from holiday. He meets with investors, he addresses the shareholders, he facilitates talks between Finance and Marketing to adjust the budget for next fiscal year and allocate additional funding for the long-term studies requested by the latter. He meets with his solicitors, who assure him that each of the latest demands and stipulations brought by the Burgess camp have been refused and countered and the directive given once more to sign the final document that Dream had thought far too generous six months ago. They are optimistic that there will be no further objections.
Dream will not allow himself that hope until it actually comes to pass.
He thinks of Hob frequently.
It is mid-March, a full month since returning, when he finds himself gazing yet again at the innocuous entry in his contacts, the cartoon lemur staring back at him brightly.
He ought to delete it. He ought to cut the thread that holds him to the glimmer of impossibility and impracticality, of unrealistic expectations. It has been a month; surely Hob has realized by now that he will not call and has put the entire notion behind him. Dream is foolish, to keep the number in his phone, to entertain the occasional daydream of actually calling. He has not; he will not. There is no point in letting the contact remain.
He recalls, with aching clarity, their last night aboard ship when they had finally put the bed to carnal use, having exhausted all other options within the suite and private deck. Hob had put him facedown on his knees and lovingly opened him up on tongue and fingers until he spilled, helpless, then put him on his back and fucked him tenderly to another climax before finishing himself. Dream remembers the way Hob kissed him throughout, slow and thorough; he remembers with a shiver of longing Hob's fingers carding through his hair, cradling his thighs, stroking down his neck, his shoulders. He recalls Hob's voice, soft and fervent, murmuring endearments and appreciation against his mouth, his skin; he remembers how he fought to keep from crying, overwhelmed by the adoration that Hob poured into him.
He had felt…cherished. It was only a holiday indulgence, a fantasy of possibilities, but oh, how he had wanted. It was delightful to curl in sleep with Hob, to be held, to imagine that this kind and beautiful near-stranger truly cared for him beyond the pleasure they found in one another.
It was so easy to pretend that he was loved.
He closes his contacts without deleting Hob's entry.
~ "So this gentleman you met on your cruise," Jessamy starts one day in April, over breakfast. She has brought him a decadent blueberry danish from the bakery near her flat and is picking delicately at her own lemon poppyseed muffin. "He left you his number, you said?"
"Yes." Dream takes an enormous bite of the pastry, delighting in the sweet tang of the blueberry filling on his tongue, the sugary melt of the glaze and the flake of the crust. He does not like where this conversation seems to be headed, but it is Jessamy, and her offering is delicious, so he will endure it.
"Are you ever going to call him?" She plucks another small chunk of her muffin between two elegant glittery-black nails and pops it into her mouth, watching him with sharp, knowing eyes.
Dream chews slowly, allowing himself time to ponder the question until his mouth is empty. "I do not know," he says at last, honestly. "I should not; there is little point. Yet I cannot quite let go of the fantasy."
"There's little harm in a spot of fantasy, though, is there," she returns. "It's human nature to spin ourselves what-ifs and wouldn't-it-be-nices."
"Perhaps," Dream allows, and returns to his Danish.
It has been two months now since the cruise; the longer he goes without calling Hob, the more foolish he feels when he imagines how it might play out if he did. It is fanciful nonsense, all of it; Hob has certainly put Dream far from his mind by now.
Hob's number remains in his phone, the bright-eyed lemur inciting a small pang of fondness and regret any time he scrolls past it.
~ It is the last week in May that the divorce is at long last finalized, legitimized, and filed as complete.
Dream feels a celebration would be appropriate. He considers dressing down and dolling up, visiting the clubs that he had taken to frequenting after he and Alex officially separated more than two years ago. Sex would be a lovely way to celebrate, especially when it's been months since the last time he'd gotten laid—
The notion passes silently on before it can truly take hold. Sex would be nice, yes, but now he is thinking of that last time, and all he wants is Hob.
Jessamy brings champagne to his office as evening sets in. "I heard the good news," she says, waggling the pair of stemmed glasses in her hand. "Congratulations on finally being legally and officially rid of the twat."
"Thank you." Dream rises and takes the glassware; Jessamy pops the cork and pours for them both, then lifts her glass. "To freedom?"
Dream matches her. "To correcting mistakes which ought never have been made," he amends, and they drink.
~ Two glasses later, the conversation has turned to Dream's Future Prospects, a topic far more easily navigated when mellowed by the champagne in his bloodstream.
"I am better off alone, Jessamy."
Jessamy tilts her head at him, frowning.
"No, I don't think you are," she offers at last.
"Nonsense." Dream feels very strongly that his point is valid. "Every relationship I have had has been. Catastrophic."
"Well, yes. You did make magnificently bad choices in your last two marriages."
"And the others?"
"You and Nada were both far too young when you eloped." She shakes her head slightly. "And everyone in between were decent enough people, just…not right for you, ultimately. There were plenty of reasons for things not working out, but that doesn't mean you stop trying."
"The fact that I have seven failed marriages behind me when I am barely forty years old leads me to think otherwise." Dream tips another small measure of champagne into his glass. "I would be wise to seek out my casual dalliances when I wish for them and swear off the idea of romance. I would be far happier."
Jessamy is giving him that look, the one that says he's full of shit but she'll find a kinder way to point it out. "Would you, though?"
"Of course. You are happy, are you not?"
"Yes, but I'm aromantic. You very much are not, Dream. You thrive on the thrill of falling in love, of wooing and being wooed and grand gestures of devotion."
He swirls his glass, once, pouting. She is correct, of course; she knows him better than anyone, has been his friend for most of his life and his assistant for most of his career. He is very much in love with being in love, which makes the parade of failed marriages in his wake all the more painful.
"You are right, of course," he reiterates aloud, melancholy stealing over him. "The idea of finding someone for one night does not even hold the appeal it did before I went on holiday. I just keep thinking of Hob."
Jessamy cocks her head at him again, raises an eyebrow, gaze bright and astute. "The fantasy in your phone whom you've never called?"
"Yes."
"That good, was he?"
"He was not—he was, rather, but it was not just that." He can feel the emotion swelling in his chest and makes no effort to hide it; Jessamy will not judge him ill for it. "Hob is kind, and sweet, and so full of life; he is a brilliant soul, warm and chivalrous and—and—" He has run out of words.
"And hot?" Jessamy's grin is sly.
"And hot," Dream admits, mournfully, "and such a good kisser, and Jessamy, I miss him. He went to Disney World, after the cruise." He looks at her, everything laid bare in his eyes, tongue comfortably loose with champagne. "I wanted very much to go with him."
"Wow."
"Yes." Dream looks away, breathing past the ache in his chest; he cannot deny that the space Hob has occupied in his thoughts since February is far more than warranted by a simple holiday tryst.
Jessamy sighs gently. "Then. Perhaps—and hear me out here—perhaps you should call him."
Dream shakes his head, miserable. "I will ruin him, I will ruin whatever feeling lies between us. As I did with Calliope, and Will, and Nuala—"
"Every relationship is different, Dream. Every set of variables, every chance—maybe it won't work, but maybe it will. You don't know without trying."
"…Perhaps."
Jessamy sets her glass aside and rises to leave. She lays a hand on his shoulder and squeezes lightly in passing. "Life is too short, Dream. Reach for happiness, every now and again. You deserve it as much as anyone."
~ Dream stares at the little cartoon lemur on his phone screen long after Jessamy has left, stares at Hob's name beneath it.
Is he truly thinking of calling, after all this time?
It is pointless, hopeless; surely Hob has long since moved on. Besides which, it is late. He does not even know what Hob does for a living, whether he is likely to still be awake at 9pm on a Tuesday but even so, it does not matter. It is far too late in the evening for unsolicited non-emergency phone calls, particularly when he is morbidly tipsy from finishing off the bottle of champagne; he swipes out of his contacts, heart thudding in his chest as though he's just narrowly missed out on calamity.
Or opportunity.
~ He stares at the lemur again the next day, and the next, and the next, debating with himself, thumb hovering over the number while his pulse pounds sickly with nerves. He wants to call, more than he might have wanted anything in recent memory; he is terrified to try, to take the risk, to burn the gauze of fantasy to the ground in hopes that a beautiful reality will rise from the ashes.
The lemur's cartoon eyes stare brightly back, unhelpful.
~ At last, on the seventh of June, half past noon on a bright sunny day, Dream can dither no more over insecurities and cautionary woes.
He wants, and he is tired of pretending that he does not.
He steels himself, closes his eyes and lets his thumb touch down.
Trembling, breath held, he brings the phone to his ear.
There is ringing on the other end, three times, a fourth, and then the sound of the line connecting.
A voice, a voice wonderfully familiar despite how long it has been since last he heard it, speaks up. "Hello, Robert Gadling here…"
Dream opens his eyes and exhales, heart in his throat. "Hob?"
There is a sudden stillness over the line. "…Dream?" Dream can hear the bright smile breaking over Hob's face. "Is that you?!"
The tension bleeds out of him in a rush and he is smiling as well, tears pricking at the corner of his eyes as he cradles the phone in both hands, curling toward the warm glow of possibility it offers.
Perhaps, perhaps this time, if he only believes.
"Hello, Hob."

The Extra Warning note: We find out here that Dream is still in the middle of a years-long messy divorce from Alex Burgess while on the cruise; he has technically committed adultery with Hob. Hob does not know and will not find out at this juncture. If this makes you uncomfortable, I completely understand if you need to give this a pass.

Day 14: A Light in the Night
Pairing: Colonel Brandon x Wife!Reader
Summary: We revisit the Colonel and his wife, along with their little dog Tulip as they ready to welcome a new life into the world.
Tag(s)/Warning(s): pregnancy, brief description of child birth, fluff, and wholesomess!
Word Count: 1.6K
A/N: And we are back with these little lovelies from day 10! I have to admit I didn't think to make this a sequel yet my brain was like yes we can use this prompt! So here we are~ I hope you enjoy this little cute fluff 😍😍
Snow melted, flowers grew and wilted, and leaves of all colours scattered the ground before a blanket of snow returned to cover the lands around Delaford Estate with its beautiful brightness that made everything shine brightly.
Some things had stayed the same, like the staff at the estate, and her sweet Christopher, handsome and gentle as he always was. While other things had changed just like seasons did.
Namely [Y/n]'s belly, which was now large and round, filled with the babe that she, and her husband were expecting sometime soon, if the doctor's words were to be taken.
Honestly, while she did get excited at the sight of her belly, she had to admit she was ready to give birth as she felt a bit cumbersome with how large she felt. Dressing took longer in the morning, walking was a tedious task after a few months and don't even get her started about sleeping or the constant need to well...relive herself.
It wasn't all bad though as she had mentioned.
For one, her Christopher had become even softer and doting towards her which she hadn't thought possible considering his naturally sweet disposition. Yet he had.
'Come darling, here let me help you out of bed, I don't wish for you to strain yourself so much. It drives me mad, the thought of you and our babe being hurt.'
'Is there anything you wish for me, or the servants to bring you while I am in town, my love? You need only tell me and I shall retrieve it with haste."
He was so ridiculously sweet, sweeter than any person alive she bet, especially when they would lay in bed at night and he would gently stroke her stomach. Kissing her swollen belly, he would whisper to the child within about how much he was looking forward to meeting them, and how he hoped they were being kind to their mother while she kept them safe as they grew.
She could tell how excited he was as his eyes always lit up when he got to speak about how they were expecting, and his excitement increased as they got closer and closer to the winter season when the babe would be born.
So when the signs of labour began to show, and she felt a small pop below and a gush of wetness in her undergarments, she knew it would not be long before the babe they had waited so long for would be in the world.
"Martha!" [Y/n] cried out urgently as she struggled to her feet from her chair near the fireplace.
Tulip, her naughty but sweet dog that had grown in height, sprang up and began to bark loudly, only to be hushed by [Y/n] who waddled to the entrance of the parlour. She was met with Martha and Christopher who had come to see what the commotion was about.
Looking at both of them, her hand on her stomach, and a dark stain beginning to grow on her nightgown, which the other two seemed to spot simultaneously, she stuttered out a nervous,
"I-I think it's time."
As if her words set something off in him, Brandon’s posture immediately changed into one of a seasoned leader who was ready to command his household to help his wife during this important moment.
"Martha take [Y/n] to the bed now!” He barked, firm yet kind were his words, and Martha answered with an equally firm ‘yes sir!’ ready to take orders from the lord of the house. “I will send a rider to fetch the doctor! Wake everyone up once [Y/n] is in bed!"
"Darling that is unnecessary!” [Y/n] exclaimed, only to wince at the pain the excitement seemed to cause. “Do not wake the house I beg you we just need the doctor and Martha no one else."
"Absolutely not, everyone has been waiting for this day and I will not deprive them of it, and Martha may need some extra hands is that not right?"
"Of course sir!" Martha answered with glee as her eyes twinkled with joy. “We’ve all been waiting for our lady to give birth! No one will mind being woken my dear! They would probably be quite angry if we didn’t wake them!”
"Good now please there is no time to waste!"
"Oooh, how delightful dear!" Martha gasped, going to [Y/n]'s side and gently guiding the woman while Tulip trotted behind them, tail wagging from the buzzing energy that was around her humans."Come there is no time to waste! You should have been in bed already, but oh you and your strong will my lady!
Both sets of people rushed off in different directions, and soon [Y/n] was in the birthing bed while a rider was running to mount their horse and fetch the local doctor.
Candle lights in each window of the estate lit up one by one, illuminating the dark home in the night as news spread that the lady of the house was soon to bring a child into the world. And it wasn't long before the sounds of birthing began.
Had she thought she knew what she was in for after talking to other mothers and to Martha, herself who was a trained midwife and a mother, she was sorely mistaken when the first pains of labour began.
Even Christopher, her poor dear sweet Christoper was going mad as she cried in pain each time she tried to push the babe out. He sat by her side, refusing to leave even when the doctor said that the process was far too messy for a gentleman of his status to watch.
"Sir I have been in trenches filled with mud and the bodies of good men who are no longer here. I have seen messy, and this doctor, this bringing of new life, while messy, is wondrous and I shall not leave my wife's side until I know she and our child are safe." He was so stern when he said it, she had thought someone had taken her sweet and mild manner Christopher away with the aghast way the doctor stared at him.
But when he looked at her with such worry and concern, she knew he was still there only wanting her pain to end.
And in the wee hours of the morning, relief come for [Y/n] and all of those in the home who waited with bated breath. With one last push and a loud shout, a sharp wail filled the halls of Delaford estate.
"A healthy baby boy!"
Both the doctor and Martha announced after the babe had been cleaned, examined, and swaddled cosily to keep him warm.
"And my is his constitution healthy indeed! Larger than any one of the children I've delivered this year. Oh, he'll be just fine this winter Colonel, my lady!" The doctor stated as he handed the crying baby to [Y/n] who was eager to hold the little wiggling thing.
"Oh Christopher," [Y/n] whispered in wonder, as she stared in awe at the baby who had calmed immediately when he was placed on her chest. "He's so beautiful oh god-." Her voice wavered as emotion filled her throat and eyes.
"He is beautiful indeed," her husband murmured as he stared in wonder with her at the child who rested against her. "Just like his mother beautiful and marvelous."
She turned to him and was surprised yet not, as she saw his eyes glassy and filled with tears. Her strong and calm love. Steady and unwavering as the English oak trees that dotted the estate, was filled with emotions at the sight of his little family that had grown.
They stayed this way for a moment, silently marvelling at the child, as Martha and the doctor helped clean [Y/n] up. Once done, they bowed to the couple and left to give them a moment of privacy. The Brandons thanked them before they left, and only moments after the door had shut, did husband and wife hear the cheers of the house.
It brought a large smile to both of their faces knowing how much support and love the staff of Delaford already had for their babe.
"You make me such a happy man darling such a happy man," he stated as he kissed her temple and leaned down to kiss the babe's forehead.
The little thing stirred at his father's touch, yet made no noise of protest. This seemed to amuse them both as they let out a watery chuckle at his actions or lack thereof.
"And you my Christoper, you make me such an unbelievably happy woman. Oh goodness our babe, I pray that he is as strong, yet kind and gentle as his father," she whispered stroking the child's cheek. "You and him, you both are my everything darling."
"Woof!"
Their eyes widened, and they turned to look at Tulip, who had been calm and quiet the entire time during [Y/n]'s labour. Only now did she seem interested in reminding them she was still here.
"I do not believe Tulip agrees with her being left off the list as our son's sister," Brandon mused as the dog stared at them with a look of expectancy.
Letting out a delighted laugh at the dog's antics, [Y/n] smiled and giggled.
"And yes, you to my Tulip I could never forget you! You do have a little brother to take care of and protect now."
This seemed to appease the dog who let out a softer bark before she laid her head down and closed her eyes.
Laughter from both was music to each other's ears as they took in the new life they had been gifted with. A new life, in the wintertime to light up the darkness that the season was known for because of its early nights. It was most importantly a new life in the Brandons’ home, one that completed the little family they had both wanted.
A/N: Yaaaay oh goodness Brandon would be such a good father, he's so gentle and soft spoken. I think he doesn't have a mean bone in his body even if he were in the army. Stay warm friends it's getting chilly out here!

the copyconductor 980 tx instructional audio tape
i finally have the copyconductor 980 tx instructional audio tape in my possession and here's my rundown of it and my favourite moments, basically me liveblogging listening to it for the first time. haven't seen anyone else talking about this tape so here i am.
i'm unsure if transcribing it or recording it would be in poor taste, but also it was limited edition and sold out and they're not going to restock so in a way you could call it lost media. i'm not sure if that would be alright to do.
for those not familiar, it's official stanley parable ultra deluxe merchandise sold by iam9bit, it was advertised and is presented as an instructional tape for the copy machine that's in the room outside stanley's office. what was actually on the tape was not stated, only that it included voice work from a few different people including the narrator's voice actor so since i love his voice so much and i collect cassettes i had to get one.
after listening note: it's basically a collection of different new snippets of dialogue, extra scenes, and new music. it's not one long new ending. a lot of side b is this long bit of the narrator doing one of those infomercial bits like in the game where he tells us how to tell a joke, but it's about what and why sequels exist and it's my favourite part of the tape.
this ramble got long so there's more under the 'read more' cut. but first here's my favourite quotes from the narrator:
"what about CGI knuckles?"
"i'm getting into D&D"
"what mistakes did the original stanley parable make? well to start off most of the pornography in the game was stolen or pirated and it's time we paid the licensing fees fair and square."
"we'll get to you yet, time dracula"
"if you purchase the stanley parable 2 you'll get this cow's egg"
"who gives a shit? all that matters is it's more content to cram down your insatiable gullet"
"it's only through this connection that we'll defeat time draucla once and for all. don't let the time vampire win, purchase the stanley parable 2"
and now the contents of the tape
started out as an actual instructional tape and i was just waiting for when it was going to shift and it did pretty quickly to the classic "all of his coworkers were gone, what could it mean?" the dialogue continued as normal with the sound effects of stanley moving until
"when stanley came to a set off two open doors" okay so far so normal- "he picked up one of the chairs lining the wall and through it with all of the force he could muster through the window" WAIT WHA. stanley walks around outside until coming across some sort of night club and the music gets louder until he enters and then we just get a full track of stanley parable dance music. it's similar to "Falling Funk" from the tspud soundtrack, but is not the same song, it's slower and i think has different instrumentation.
the narrator gives a watchmojo top 20 sound effects from the stanley parable ultra deluxe. i started hoping "8" would be on there since i cannot read the number 8 anymore without hearing "8" and i thought it would be perfect if it was number 8 on the list and it was. other sounds i recognised more than others: the baby from the baby game going into the fire was number 14, number 1 was "jim".
the music track that plays when you look at the cave painting in the museum in the game then played, (is on the tspud soundtrack as part of 'Ambiences') but faded into new slow, haunting vocals. the tape then cut back into the instruction copyconductor man.
when it cut away from him we get a new man "okay this is day number 295, tape number... i've lost track... nothing feels real anymore." the less sense anything makes. [...] the sheer euphoria i feel every time i pick it up, no matter how many time i've done it, the same feeling... and the emptiness in my chest" i started wondering if this man had a bucket of his own. "i still haven't figured out why i see the world so differently when this bucket is in my hands" yep. the bucket man continued to monologue, he start to think about monetising the bucket, charging people to spend time with the bucket, he worries people will steal his idea, steal the bucket, someone or something appears near him. the bucket man stops talking, stares, then says "Gambhorra’ta" which is what the cavemen chant in the previous song, and i'm wondering if this is the name of the god/creature that was mentioned on one of those tapes you could find in game? but it's been a long while since i last played. there's some creature in the room, making monster noises. the tape cuts out. the name appears on the tspud soundtrack "Gambhorra’ta, Treasurer of The Profaned Vault" though that is not the name of the cavemen chanting song.
the narrator gives us a limerick, a little rhyme over some acoustic guitar.
"and now a message from the bucket" [metal rustling noises]
the narrator returns "it's these kids again, always up and around, always talking about it. it's bloody game of thrones season 8 all over and and i'm just not..." he's rambling on about kids and crime and then out of no where "what about CGI Knuckles though?" and it caught me so off guard i had to stop the tape because i started laughing. he tries to keep rambling but he stops, defeated "no one cares, it's all mp3s and pokemon" i have no idea what he's rambling about, he's still complaining about kids, about theatre "i'm getting into d&d though, dungeons and dragons, can't stand those- [TAPE IS FULL. END OF MESSAGES]."
and onto side b we go.
back to the instructional man, how to load paper into the copy machine.
he cuts out to music, gentle guitar, bossa-nova-esque music. ITS A NEW MEMORY ZONE PIECE. i don't speak the language it's in, i know enough to recognise that unlike the french memory zone song from the game, this is in spanish or portuugese (i don't know enough about either language to confidentially say which one, but i recognise some words). the phrases "memory zone" and "stanley parable" are still in english.
narrator "here is a free steam key for the stanley parable ultra deluxe, however due to printing issues all copies of this tape will contain the same key. please confirm online in regards to who show redeem this" he then lists the key. i have no idea if it's real.
back to copyman, he's still telling us how to load paper.
narrator answer machine message "hello, unfortunately the person you called cannot come to the phone right now. please leave a message after the beep". 'thinking theme' from the tspud soundtrack then plays. then there's a beep.
the narrator tells us about night sharks, where it lives, the depth of the water it stays in, how long it is, etc. i googled night sharks to see if the information was accurate or if this was a gag, only to discover he's literally reading the wikipedia page word for word.
a new man "say there timmy, what's that? it's breakfast of course, but did you know breakfast is getting a sequel? that's right. lunch. [...] with a little luck, we may even get a trilogy series out of it. you know what a sequel is, don't you timmy? why, sequels are the worlds way of clinging helplessly onto the past. we all want more of the things we love and we're all afraid of change." in the style of old commercials, it's sounds like this could be the same voice actor as the narrator now doing an american accent.
"sequels are the bedrock of a healthy functional society, and if you look around you you'll find them everywhere you go." "here's the man who invented breathing, which is the sequel to suffocating and dying a slow death. even you're parents are getting a sequel timmy, their names are rod and jessica, as your real parents are getting sent back in time to fight in a secret war for the government." this goes on for a while about sequels, about the stanley parable getting a sequel.
"you're a man now timmy, which is a sequel to being a boy, and you need a man's game. the stanley parable 2 is the manliest game there is. let's look at the burley man who made the game. huh. his name is gregory eightpack and he's the cutting picture of raw masculinity"
"sequels allow us to correct mistakes. what mistakes did the original stanley parable make? well to start off most of the pornography in the game was stolen or pirated and it's time we paid the licensing fees fair and square. second, the stanley parable was catastrophic for a man named leroy, who had his information including home address, social security and bank address which were displayed prominently in multiple locations throughout the game. although leroy's money and identity were stolen, the fact remains his personal information was the emotional core of the game and absolutely vital to a nuance and understanding of the story. as reparation for the harm we caused him, the sequel will contain a brief and insincere apology to leroy tucked deep within the game where it will be difficult to find. finally, the stanley parable made the mistake of leaking too many government secrets about the nature of the time wars." "we'll get to you yet, time dracula."
omg this sequel bit goes on for so long but i love it. i cannot write it all down here, it goes on for so long omg.
the narrator thanks us for listening to the audio cassette. he say's we have a message from stanley's missing coworkers for us! ... there's nothing. there's no message from them... that's the end of the tape...

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 14: DREAM CATCHER - Episode 1: To The Next Season
Ibuki: Hmm… Something’s not right.
Ibuki: What about this angle… Hmm.
Ibuki: (I can’t really decide… I wonder if I can find some inspiration somewhere.)
Ibuki: …
Ibuki: (Even TikTak has been full of promo videos for theater companies lately.)
Ibuki: Ah, “Get To Know MANKAI Company”?
Ibuki: (MANKAI Company, eh…)
Iv has entered the chat momo: eugh… i probably messed up… Iv: wassup? momo: no… i just got a little carried away… ig Kar: idgi shiki: you’re always free to tell us if something’s bothering you
-
Sakuya in the video: “Thank you very much!”
Masumi in the video: “Thank you very much.”
-
Muku: *dreamy sigh* … The RomiJuli sequel was so good.
Tenma: Thinking back to your debut really does make one emotional.
Kumon: It’s so awesome how you can tell how much they’ve grown as they play the same role!
Yuki: It’s like their growth as actors is linked to their characters’ personal growth.
Kazunari: Pretty much. It’s like there’s some synergy going on~
Misumi: I can’t wait for our “Water Me!” sequel~
Muku: Me neither! I wonder what kind of story it’ll be?
Tenma: We have to show that we’ve grown just as much as the Spring Troupe has
Muku: … Huh?
Izumi: What’s wrong?
Muku: The boy in the audience in this video… Isn’t he Masumi-kun’s fan?
Izumi: Ah, you’re right. That’s Towa-kun.
Tenma: Is that the fan that came to talk to Tsuzuru-san the other day?
Izumi: Yeah.
Muku: So he managed to get a ticket for the first day. I’m glad.
Izumi: He said it’d be his first time watching a performance in a theater, he must’ve been very emotional.
Izumi: (If anything, he was a little too emotional. I’d have never expected him to say what he did…)
[Flashback starts]
Towa: … Tsuzuru Minagi-sensei!! I want you to write a script for my troupe!! Please!!
Tsuzuru: Eh? … EHHHH!?
Tsuzuru: You want me to write a script?
Towa: Yes!
Sakuya: That’s amazing! Have you created a troupe?
Towa: Um, I plan to start creating it from now on…
Izumi: Have you gathered members?
Towa: N-No… I plan to start doing that.
Masumi: In other words, it’s just you right now.
Towa: But I… want to create a troupe just like MANKAI Company!
Towa: When I participated in the Spring Troupe's workshop, I learned a little about how plays are created, and what it feels like to stand on stage...
Towa: And I became more interested in theater.
Towa: And then, when I actually watched the Spring Troupe’s performance in a theater, I was moved in a way I’ve never been before.
Towa: Thanks to the hard work of many people, the play takes on a real form on top of the stage, and the actors truly shine…
Towa: It made me think that I want to stand on that stage as well. I want to try shining the way everyone does…
Towa: This may be too simple, and my way of thinking might be naive, but…
Towa: I feel like fate brought me here, to find what I want to do, and to discover theater!
Tsuzuru: … I see. Fate, huh?
Towa: I’m sorry, this probably seems really stupid to you…
Izumi: Not at all.
Tsuzuru: I’ve also felt this way, so I get it.
Sakuya: I also felt that way when I first experienced theater.
Citron: We totally understand Towa’s feels~!
Izumi: Moments like that do happen. I believe that if you feel like you’re destined to act, then that means you have the talent for it.
Tsuzuru: I understand your motivation, and I’d love to cooperate with you. But when you’re the only member in the troupe…
Tsuzuru: Performing a one-person act as a beginner is pretty difficult, so I’d rather your troupe has at least 4 members.
Towa: I need 3 more…
Towa: … I understand! I’ll find them!
Tsuzuru: Alright. I’ll be waiting.
Izumi: Do your best.
Sakuya: We’ll be cheering for you!
Towa: Thank you very much!
[Flashback ends]
Izumi: (I do wonder how things are going with Towa-kun’s company, but I have to prioritize the Summer Troupe’s performance.)
Izumi: (Our ranking may have improved, but we’re still far from the Fleur Award…)

favorites of all time!
way way way back when i set up a spam account so i could send myself things i wanted to read later. essentially turning that chat into my TBR. i have sorted through them & i think the first thing to do with this rebrand is to give you a list of my favorite fics of all time. below you will find a list of my favorite reads with their writers & a smol why for it making the list. these are in no particular order. please enjoy!
*this list is 18+. Minors do not interact!*
list below the cut.
*most of these fics either are smut or contain some through slow burn structure. Please read each author's warnings for them before you engage. *
from the last 7 years, i have chosen 20 fics that i LOVE. here we go.
from @deansdirtylittlesecretsblog we have a story i remember getting me excited about what kind of writing could be on tblr. "the arrangement" a lost love fic. 9 parts of love & angst.
2. @sis-tafics out here with a sweet sweet physical innocence trope with the hottie dean winchester. "our little secret"
3. @hrina wrote such a beautiful H. Styles fic about his character in dunkirk. "Il Ritorno" is the first part of 3 fics. i love the little coming home to a new place & new people plot.
4. @supernatural-jackles is the author of one of the only fics to make me cry. "hey handsome" i remember reading this sobbing because i felt the emotions written into this SO deeply. I reached out to them & let them know how much i loved it. & i still love it so to this day.
5. @winchest09 is adding our first dark fic to this list. the slow burn on this one is so so so so good. i found this one a long long time ago & i would say it is one of the first fics that got me to explore the mafia verse "life for rent"
6. @negans-lucille-tblr is giving us another spoicy series up in here & it even has a sequal!!!!! (look down one) the ultimate D/s winchester series. it's oh so good! "you've got me beggin"
7. & for the sequel "Mercy" this series is so good i have re-read both 2-3 times. it felt like crack the first read on both of these lol.
8. oh oh oh okay! this next. one from @pink1031 is probably one of my absolute favorite stucky series. "our best girl" was the fic that sent me down a rabbit hole of stucky fics. i was addicted after this one.
9. @pink1031 is back at it again with the ONE fic on this list i know i have read a minimum of 6 times. it is THAT good. "dirty little secret" was so scandalous and sexy. a J2 fic that had me coming back for more all the time. my escapism really shined with this one.
10. i remember finding "lemon drop" by @impala-dreamer i love the dynamic written here between Sam Winchester x the reader. the intimacy in this one-shot is beautiful. this is something i wish i could have at the end of my days or when i feel like the world is too heavy. i felt seen through this fic.
11. @tuiccim 's style of writing is something i adore & admire. I fell in love through "almost had me believing it" it is truly a work of art. I was immersed into this undercover mission with my man BUCKY BARNES.
12. oh & another from @tuiccim with "Terrigenisis" this is such a good poly-stucky fic. the way it was written felt like it could have been canon.
13. WOAH now! this next one written by @world-of-aus is ICONIC. the universe that is "starkhub" is just so delectable. i remember when it was being published in the beginning i was like a dog with a bone. i will never get enough. I can't wait to see where else it gets taken.
14. this next one is quite possibly one of my favorite mob fics. I have linked the first installment of these lovely smutty stucky fics. "tell me what you want" is the first step into such a delicious universe. thank you @angrythingstarlight for all you write.
15. an absolute banger from @sagechanoafterdark with "codename: Lazarus". i can't exclaim loud enough how good this one is. it had me on the edge of my seat. so dynamic. the order in which you read the parts for this one changes the perspective. don't worry they have put an excellent order at the bottom of the masterlist. :)
16. @avintagekiss24 i wanna start out by saying that I love the space you have created with your blog. when i found "lay me down in the tall-green grass" i thought i found fanfic heaven. i will cherish it always. i kept coming back to this one-shot to relive it as much as possible.
17. i've been thinking about "stained like georgia clay" by @georgiapeach30513 a lot lately. i remember binge-reading it & soaking up every droplet of goodness i could. ;) & that thunderstorm scene 🥵. i'll leave you with that...
18. here lies the "howling comandos tattoo au" that altered my brain chemistry just a little. @navybrat817 stole my heart long before this one dropped. however, this au had me sitting patiently waiting with my hands folded.... um no i was mentally ON MY KNEES.
19. i can confidently say that @georgiapeach30513 's "you were the one" is my favorite Lloyd hansen series ever. i crave a fics that are this good. it all started from a one-shot & then i found out a prequel was being written to it & i screamed in excitement.
20. A quality fic that i have had actual dreams about in the past. comes from @themhoodgirlz . for my 5sos girlies out there "close" tingles my brain in the right ways. i reminisce about the dynamic these two have. years ago when i was a BIG 5sos stan i lowkey hoped & dreamed for that to be me lol.
alright, alright, alright. that concludes my first rec list. I want to thank all of these amazing, amazing authors who have shared their skills & talents with the world. your works have given me sweet escapes, brightened my days, & expanded my love for all of the characters & ppl you write for. <3 all my love,
prynne

14) Telling
((Early-ish DT spoilers (right after 1st dungeon!), a bit of a sequel to this post of just screenshots. hehe. Attempted dialogue today, so, hope it flows ok!))
The morning light didn’t permeate the cabin, but that didn’t stop Alisaie from shaking Karo’s shoulder at what she thought was entirely too early an hour. Grumbling, she rolled over, wiping the sleep from her eyes, dressing for the day without thinking about it before shuffling out the door. The twins were already in a rousing discussion, entirely too chipper for how early it was, while Krile, Wuk Lamat and Erenville were still eating their breakfast.
“It’s about time you showed yourself!” Even though Alisaie was the one to wake her, the girl still had to rib Karo about not arising with the others. Karo’s ears twitched along with her tail, but said not a word as Erenville silently handed her a steaming cup. Inhaling, she could smell coffee and chocolate with the slightest nutty hint. Smiling gratefully, she took a sip, sighing in contentment at the mix.
“Are you feeling okay? Do we need to delay our travel for today?” Wuk Lamat was looking over at her with concern. Karo shook her head.
“I’m fine, just a bit tired,” ears flickered again as the bard hid her face in her mug, taking another slow sip.
“Did you not sleep well?” the Third Promise was insistent that she found the root of the problem, much to Karo’s increasing discomfort. “I can ask our hosts about better beds next time we come through!”
“No, no! It’s nothing like that!” Karo’s face was turning redder as she tried to wave off the scrutiny.
“She was out too late with Thancred,” Karo’s mug hit the table, followed by her head being buried in her arms as her tail lashed behind her, ears pinned back. The smugness in Alisaie’s voice was only muffled by Alphinaud and Krile’s choked laughter. It was entirely too early in the morning for this type of dragging by her “little siblings”.
“Thancred!” Wuk Lamat had pushed away from the table in surprise, her voice almost loud enough for the entire little villa to hear. “What was she doing with him? Karo, what were you doing with him? He’s traveling with Kona!”
“They’re engaged,” Karo’s neck almost cracked with how fast she lifted it off the table to stare at the speaker.
“ALPHINAUD!”
“WHAT?!” Three voices shouted at the same time, Alisaie and Wuk Lamat having chorused in unison as Karo stared in shock at Alphinaud’s very smug expression.
“What? They haven’t exactly been keeping it secret with those necklaces the three of them are wearing,” Karo’s head returned to her arms on the table, face aflame. He was correct on that account, they had just been waiting until all the Scions were gathered for some reason to announce to everyone at the same time. That hadn’t happened yet, but it turns out their friends were more observant than they figured on.
Well, the rumors were going to fly now with how loud her companions were–Karo hoped that Thancred’s group had already headed out for the morning. They most likely had with how early he liked to rise, and she knew he was the taskmaster of their little trio. Urianger could get up early, but preferred to sleep in as he was just as much a night owl as Karo and G’raha. She didn’t know about Kona, but guessing from his demeanor, he could probably choose either one depending on if he got caught up in a project late at night.
Tail still lashing behind her, Karo finally looked up, peering around at her companions to gauge reactions. Alisaie had Alphinaud pinned to the cabin wall, berating him softly about not telling her, Wuk Lamat was sitting and staring at her a bit dumbfoundedly, but amused, and Erenville and Krile were unbothered, still drinking their own morning coffee. The day could only get better at this point she supposed.
“Yes, that’s the way of it,” Karo finally said when Alisaie took a breath. The exasperated look of affection from the younger girl she answered sheepishly. “We were going to tell everyone, we just hadn’t the chance since we wanted to tell everyone together,” a quick shrug as she took another drink.
“I suppose at this point I should just take for granted that Shtola knows, probably Urianger as well,” the chatter had done what the coffee hadn’t. Karo was now fully awake whether she wanted to be or not.
“Estinien probably still doesn’t know,” Alisaie was trying to keep at least some semblance of not being the only one of the Scions not to figure out the not-spoken “secret”. Though a realization dawned on her as she turned to Krile.
“Did you know?” the Lalafell’s laughter rang out in the camp as she nodded an affirmative, and Alisaie’s shoulders dropped in defeat. Muttering under her breath, she disappeared into the cabin, intent on getting packed up for the day instead of staying out where she could feel ridiculed. A few moments longer, and conversation broke back out about the day’s activities and itinerary, much to Karo’s relief. Grabbing a quick bite to eat, she finished her coffee as they finished packing up, getting moving before the whole morning had disappeared.

What the hecking heck happened with me - THE UNNECESSARY (and kinda boring) SEQUEL
So you might have noticed I have been absent for the past 2.5 weeks. So, where have I been? What has happened to me?
Well, you see, I got this magical music box, and when I opened it, I was transported into a different world full of talking frogs, toads and-
Wait, I've done this bit already.
....
Yeah, got into hospital. AGAIN.
Same warning as before applies, regarding medical stuff. Especially if you are eating.
Chapter 13: Wednesday Night's fever
So around three weeks ago I found myself really sapped of strength. Well, as you might recall, I basically had a fall and got wounds on my hip. Or to put it in another words:
Well, something from those wounds got infected or something and started affecting my whole body. The effect? Pretty much daily ~38C (~100F) fevers that drained me of energy.
No, buddy, the solution is paracetamol.
That was helping me daily when I was in hospital while getting some long-term antibiotics.
So, yeah, not to blow the trumpet, it was pretty much that: drips, pills, drips, pills, gastroscopy, drips, pi-wait, what did I say AND WHAT IS THIS THING-
Chapter 14: Gastroscopy
So I had to have gastroscopy done, which, in case you don't know is basically a tube with camera being inserted into your esophagus and-
Yeah, not pleasant. But the whole thing lasted only about 10 minutes, and the worst part was the first 30 seconds. So, no biggie. Now, let's talk about....
Chapter 15: Neighbours
Because they were really an odd collection.
First one was just an old dude who hated when I asked to open windows (and of course just as I was admitted spring temps have arrived)
Second one was a detective! In fact he has just solved a murder mystery that happened in the adjacent room! And the murderer was his roommate!
... yeah, he was pretty out of touch with reality, they took him after a day.
And then comes our star: Typical Janush, or Ordinary Janusz, as the Polish meme goes (don't worry if you don't get it)
This absolute unit of Polishness with huuuuge beer belly, bald spot and moustache has brought with him in his bag of holding:
coffee and sugar (nothing spectacular tbh)
TWO different chocolate waffers packs,
two strawberry chocolate bars,
Toffee sweets,
coffee sweets,
TWO different types of sausages,
home-made chicken wings,
and a jar of pickled mushrooms (fereality-indy DNI)
What else did he have in it? I don't know, and frankly, I am scared of the possibilities. This guy could give Mary Poppins a run when it comes to that bag.
He cursed like a sailor when he watched the news - and he watched all the news, he was funding the TV, so he might as well get what he's paid for.
He was also... really kind. He helped me with everything I couldn't do, sometimes faster than the nurses. Really awesome dude.
And the last one who was admitted JUST as I was leaving, was a 96-year old grandpa with some gastric problems. What problems? I don't know, but imagine a cat coughing up a furball... at a volume of a small steam locomotive. At 2 a.m. Every half an hour.
i only had to deal with him for a day.
He also brought... a flask with him.
The one they usually sell spirytus in. Now, it did NOT contain alcohol, just lemon-flavoured water.... but you had to see the nurse's reaction when he was seen casually drinking from it :) He was politely told to use other vessels.
And as a bonus, there was a guy in adjacent room who sometimes visited us and wore a curious t-shirt.... you know the "how do you do fellow kids" meme, right?
and how they just wrote "music band" in order to avoid problems with AC/DC copyright?
Well, his T-shirt had a generic basketball and words "Basketball Team est. 1992". And that's it. No other allusions to, say, Chicago Bulls, or any other team. Just that.
We have reached singularity, people.
Chapter 16: In conclusion, it was mostly boring
Yeah, I have to admit, this stay wasn't that eventful, which I guess I should count as blessing. What else to add... Oh, all the nurses were h*cking cute!
One even recognised me from my first visit!
So, yeah, now I've done the unpacking, and oh boy, you always collect lots of stuff you then forget about.
Like-
Wait, the heck is that?
It... it looks like I have written a 4k Glitch Techs G-rated fic... on my phone! Which has non-existent keyboard! Wait, that can't be right...
It's mostly done, but not finished... Still, it's a shame if it got wasted, right?

30 Reasons Why
Chapter 14: You have the most incredible ability to...
Warning: None Word count: About 1k
<- Previous chapter [14/30] Next chapter ->
-
Every now and again, the luxury of being able to cuddle in oversized hoodies inside a small makeshift fort held up by the sofa and chairs came across your lives and without hesitation, you’d take it as a moment away from the world that you could share with your love. Often, these moments would be paired with mini tray tables set up in the fort to ensure no spillage of any snacks or drinks, a tablet for movies, and the very last thing you were missing in the equation.
“I’m coming!”
Hearing the thumping of footsteps running around what you’d assume to be the bedroom, you teasingly made loud beeping noises as the thumping of footsteps got more frantic the closer they got to you. Peeking your head out the fort, you laughed as you watched Yoohyeon crash onto the sofa to stop herself from falling, and another closer look had you releasing the ends of what the door of the fort would have been to laugh as you scooted in. Frowning as she lowered herself onto her knees and crawled in, she pouted at you, fringes still wet from the shower she had just took and failed to dry properly.
“What are you laughing at?”
Whining as she crawled over your prone form before letting herself fall onto your body, effectively cutting off your laughter with a soft “oof”, you let her snuggle into you as you ran your hand through her hair. It was a moment of silence before you looked down at her and press a kiss on her forehead.
“Your hoodie is on inside out.”
“Wait what?”
Scrambling to sit up, she disturbed the fort's structure with how she struggled to get the hoodie off her body as you sat there admiring her physique and mumbling a “be careful” when you noticed the large sheet overhead shifted. Watching as she somehow got herself slightly stuck on the head of the hoodie and lost within the fabric, you took pity and moved to help her remove it from her body and turned it inside out for her. Grinning widely at you as she stuck both her hands out to you, you shook your head with a matching smile as you rolled the sleeves up and helped her put it back on. Once her head popped through the hoodie, you were met with an attempt of a seductive lip bite from your girlfriend except her hair was all in her face and you started laughing yet again. Restarting the little tussle as she dived for you, you let out a sequel as you scooted backward into the soft pillows and her chin landed on your thighs instead causing you to let out a whimper of pain. That made her jolt up in concern as she scrambled to check in on you. Only after holding her head between your hands and forcing her to look at you did you manage to reassure her that you were fine and stop her panicking.
It was mostly peaceful afterward as the both of you settled in properly and scrolled through the variety of shows to choose from, knowing that it would usually end up being background noise as the both of you enjoyed your time together. As expected, it only took a couple of minutes into the show before the both of you were discussing a topic within the show, the show itself forgotten.
Through the long discussion, there was a slight deviation as the topics drifted to something more personal as you sat there between Yoohyeon’s legs, pondering your next words to say. Sensing how you were deep in your thoughts, her arms and legs curled around you as she pulled you closer to her, grounding you back to reality.
“Hey, it’s okay. We can move on from this.”
Shaking your head, you huffed.
“No, it’s okay. I just… I’m trying to process it and piece it all together. It’s just a sore spot. I think I should figure it out now rather than…”
Gesturing with your hand, you sighed and sank back into the embrace of your girlfriend.
“I’m sorry for dragging the mood down, today is supposed to be a happy relaxing day for the both of us but-”
“Why are you apologizing? I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want to hear all that you have to share. I’m still here spending time with you, I’m not having a bad day just because you shared what is on your mind.”
Stunned into silence, you turned your head slightly just as Yoohyeon lowered her head down slightly to gently bump her forehead against yours. Looking her right in the eyes, you felt your breath being stolen as your insecurities were pacified one by one. Out of a billion words, she somehow chose the exact ones that you needed to hear from her lips. Pouting when you failed to respond, she pressed a kiss on your lips before nuzzling onto the side of your head as she tightened her hold on you.
“So just tell me what you need from me okay? A listening ear, some advice, it doesn’t matter how selfish you think you might be. I chose to be here, and I am here for you. You’re not allowed to guess how I’m supposed to feel and make that your reasoning. I’m interested in you, and that includes every small detail in your life, good or bad.”
You have the most incredible ability to say the right words.
Huffing once again as you hold back the approaching tears, you let yourself melt against the fluffy hoodie while you clung onto her comforting scent as she ran her hand through your hair. Only then did you notice the silence, both from the show and the thoughts in your head. Feeling some movement from Yoohyeon, you unwillingly pulled away before a bottle of water was held in front of you. Slowly lifting your hand to hold onto it, Yoohyeon twisted open the cap for you before nudging it closer to your lips.
“Now drink up, okay? I don’t want you to get a headache later.”
Nodding up at her, you took a sip before lowering the bottle.
“Thank you.” Drawing your eyes back to hers, you took a deep breath before continuing. “I love you.”
