11, 12 - 10/10/2023 : chooshada again :333 first a little doodle on my phone bc i was wondering about her livery, i do think she'd have originally been NER apple green but then painted NWR colours, butttt with a twist... coz i can do whatever i like... the twist is just that she's painted dark blue rather than a sky blue, coz its more her colour x

15 - 22/10/2023 : predictably, i have some playlists for the ttte engines, one for Diesel which is notable here, so uhh, i have the scrapped song from the lorax "biggering" in there, bc i see it as like a Duck vs Diesel song, ik im surpassing several layers of cringe here but hear me out ok... i drew this at 2am coz i couldn't stop thinking of Duck lecturing Diesel

16, 17, 18 - 25/10/2023 : speaking of playlists, think i was listening to my Robin one here, and felt like drawing him, i have "the land of make believe" in there, which ive always found to be an oddly haunting song, so this is semi based on that, though that wouldn't be apparent if i hadn't just told u x .. this looks like vent art but tis not i was just having fun

also tiny chooshada, i was in the middle of writing something which i have literally Just remembered now and i was writing a scene where Ru is stuck between some characters who shes not looking forward to working with bc they're about to bicker the whole fuckin time and one of them thinks shes a dick, so i drew her being sad that shes forced to work with morons..... and speak of the devil, 3rd drawing is here with 2 of the aforementioned morons :D i think D+D take a liking to her, they're just a little obnoxious (love them for that)

Hiya! I’m kind of a small creator on here and trying to get my rottmnt fic an audience but no matter what I do as promo material (art, skits, rambles) nothing ever works to get more than like 2 notes max. I’m confident in my story’s quality so I’m fairly sure that’s not the issue. I was wondering if you have any advice or anything like that? Your stuff is lovely and get a lot of community engagement so I’m curious if there was anything you actively did that helped you grow! I hope this doesn’t come off as rude or desperate, I just wanted to know if I was missing something since I’m pretty new to Tumblr. Enjoy your day ^^

But tbh... you are asking the wrong person here...

I'm going into marketing, and I spent a full school year in high school doing an independent study on social media algorithms. So I know a LOT about how to grow social media followings- specifically instagram accounts.

But I never actually studied tumblr. I used to use instagram as a platform, but knowing how the algorithm worked was too stressful for me... I'd post stuff and be like "the algorithm won't like this because blah blah blah." Eventually I was drawing for the algorithm and not for me, and so I quit because it just wasn't fun anymore...

Which is why I have very specifically not studied Tumblr's algorithm, because I don't want it to turn into the same situation as with instagram. So I don't know a ton about how to grow a following... and also I've only been on tumblr for 5 months...

THAT BEING SAID: I can walk you through my tumblr and how it's grown!

My very first post was of a meme redraw with the 2012 turtles. I think it got around 1,600 likes?

I posted a couple more things, with varying amounts of likes and such. My first comic (which I never actually completed past the first part) got a total of 7 likes within the first months of posting it. Only when I got more followers did the like amount change.

When I posted my first chapter of the Flashbacks AU, I had 33 or so followers. I think I got to like... 300 followers from that first chapter alone. From there it was just... a steady growth of followers I guess. And with followers comes more reblogs, and with more reblogs comes more followers.

I have around 1,600 followers now. Not everyone is gonna like my posts, I think I get around 20 for responded asks and 100-300 for random pieces of art. Comics get closers to 600 or so. It depends on the content.

I think there are a couple of universal things that help grow an account:

1- Making sure your content is reaching the right people. Put the right tags in. Go crazy with them in fact. If I'm posting a piece with Rise Mikey in it, Im gonna tag: Mikey, Mikey tmnt, Mikey 2018, ROTTMNT, Rise Mikey, etc etc. On instagram they are currently trying to get people to limit their use of tags, but I don't think the same thing applies here. Even tho tags don't help as much here, they are still a good tool!

2- Consistency. Idk how it works on this platform, but consistency is generally a good thing! With instagram theres an actual method to it (1 post a day= good, but the more posts you do a day the less people it shows it to), it might be worth it to look up if tumblr has something similar.

3- Have fun with it! I know this is kinda lame to say... but don't change your content for views. Just... do what you like and eventually your target audience will find you :)

4- Engage with what audience you do have! It's fun to bond with people online, and it helps that "community engagement" piece you talked about!

5-... stalk people hehe. (By which I mean: Look at what other artists post! What tags do they use, do they reblog their own posts a lot, etc etc. Also look at artists with similar followings to your own. For example, studying Cass might not be very helpful, because Cass has a large amount of followers and I'm convinced they could post a picture of a blank canvas and still get 1,000 likes hehe... BUT- I mean you could scroll down to Cass' (or other artist's) first posts and see what they were doing then! Just... observe others I suppose!)

Id love to tell you likes don’t matter, that what matters is having fun and loving what you are drawing. But also I do know how it feels to post something you are really proud of and then have no one like it- it sucks.

But just keep on going :) You'll find your people eventually I'm sure.

I just want to write my story

This is about how I came across MordeTwi and how it became one of my obsessions. It's kinda funny to look back to because I never really cared about Regular Show back then and I was one of those people who avoided MLP like it was the plague.

The first time I encountered a redraw of the Airplanes meme was actually in the year 2020, when I was browsing the Comics & Cartoons board of 4chan.

It was a "Barney Bait" thread, this was the thread's thumbnail. I had no strong reaction to this image, nor thought to figure out the context for its creation. I wasn't fully aware about the ship yet at this point, I just assumed this image was a commission and not part of a greater cultural phenomenon. Okay, I'll admit: this was also during the time I was in a phase where I irrationally hate Regular Show and what it stands for (I believe the Simp meme was popular at this point too), and when I looked at this image then, I swear I was like "Heh. Mordecai is being partnered up with some random pony." (I didn't know at the time that Twilight is also a main protagonist like he is lol)

Jump forward to more or less a year later, I was binge watching Jabroni Mike's stream VODs. One video in particular has Frederick Knudsen as a guest, and it was about AI generated images (this was back when Dall-E wasn't a thing yet, I think). One of the prompts was the lyrics of Airplanes, and at some point Fred had to bring up MordeTwi because Mike had no idea what's going on. That one fateful second... Fred shared the original Airplanes drawing (Mike showing it to us thru OBS), and that's when it hit me...

"Hey, this image looks familiar. Hmm... A meme. And it involves Mordecai and MLP..."

I had to pause the video but it only took me seconds to remember that 4chan thread. This was also the first time I learned of the pony's name – Twilight Sparkle. "Ah. I know my search term now, thanks Fred!"

This was when the Airplanes meme was still just about to blow up into mainstream popularity (re: resurge as a trend big time). Searching MordeTwi during this time was better since you got to see more of the older stuff that wasn't to do with the redraw trend or the Airplanes meme in general. At the same time I was deep diving in this search, I was also looking at my browser history trying to rediscover that 4chan thread to make sure I wasn't going crazy (actually, I had to look it up through an archive, e.g. Desu Archive).

I learned a few things that day:

1, Mordecai x Twilight Sparkle was a thing for a long time

2, the ship itself did not stem from the original meme image – which there's a trend over it – but alot of people don't seem to know that

3, there was a trend back in 2020 to "redraw MordeTwi"

4, there was an ongoing trend to make content related to: A, the ship, or B, the meme based on the ship.

There's just something about this pairing, it just... stuck to my head. Like, it's some kind of cosmic horror – they're bound together one way or another, their pairing is inevitable, and your mind just won't quiet about it. But there's something else I learned about MordeTwi in those early times: the original shippers of this pairing were kind of the underdogs. This was a full on fanbase too, I must add, with a fan club. Just a few days in for their existence and they were already getting hate sent their way; they were misunderstood – though granted, they didn't have a FAQ section to clear things up, until two years after their club was founded.

Suffice it to say: learning about this ship – how its' fans/creators got treated over time, and how it was perceived overall... that got me rooting for MordeTwi. It's a pity that MordeTwi is mostly seen these as "that fake ship/joke pairing that a nine-year-old made up out of nowhere".

I could be starting this by saying "Here we go again" but that would imply a precedent. Since I'm here to complain, I can address for a bit the other cartoon I never mention on here.

When Rise was first announced, I looked at the artstyle and said no. When I was being recommended to watch the show "for the plot" I said no. When I finally watched the first episode and found everything and everyone to be incredibly unpleasant and annoying, I said no once again and never came back.

Because that's a thing that we can do. Why didn't I do that again this time? Because I was mighty bored last week.

But mainly, I had the time to waste taking to the seas to watch ten episodes of twelve, until said seas dried up and went offline because the policeman is always watching. I told myself "Surely Tales can't be as bad as Rise, right? They're milking the '87 show again, they have to do the bare minimum to be watchable, right?" And I was correct. They didn't go past the basics (which mainly means not making Donatello an arrogant piece of shit but don't think I like this one much more either after that left brain/right brain bit) and it's so devoid of any charm it felt like a gaming journalist wrote for the show.

So before I fully descend into madness and start sounding even more like Caddicarus, I'll just sum up my gripes with the show so I can then focus on what I actually want to talk about.

TL;DR Tales of the TMNT is Nickelodeon's third attempt at making a TMNT show whose only achievement is making the 2012 show look better because the bar has somehow been lowered even more than that and it keeps descending. I dislike the visuals, the voices, whatever passes for plot and dialogue, the way it treats the characters and it made me forget what laughing feels like.

Fuck this show. Now for the meaningful stuff.

This isn't even good for the promotional material

I'm just going to go on about things I've noticed while watching.

There's a feeling I've been unable to shake off since Mutant Mayhem was first shown: for some reason, they decided that TMNT had to look like something else. I didn't watch the movie because of the ungodly amount of references that would have made understanding anything the say a chore, but also because, to me, it looked like it was drawn using moldy crayons. I'm sure everybody else liked it, I think it's about time we put Spiderverse on the high shelf so the industry has to try literally anything else.

So, the show is animated this way because it's supposed to be Leonardo's comic (the second half isn't but shush). You'd think this meant we'd get some closeups and cool camera angles but instead we have a choppy storyboard with no lip syncing whatsoever with random bouts of fluid animation that only end up looking even more awkward than the rest. The action scenes are unenjoyable due to them having been left at keyframe stage and generally speaking, the choreography is really nothing to write home about.

I still won't pay any attention to anything that gives Donatello nerd glasses because fuck Michael Bay specifically and Raphael has been reduced to an orc barbarian again, while Leonardo doesn't even look like he belongs in the same show as the others. In many shots he actually looks more like an '87 Leo redraw from any of the crossovers because his design didn't receive any of the ugly "improvements" they're so bent on adding these days. Half of the mutant cousins are revolting while the others would look fine (and also get handled better) in Deltarune. Oh, and Master Splinter has been turned into a meme again because imagine having a single adult character with some dignity in a Nick show.

If I already wasn't having a good time looking at this, listening to it ended up being just as bad. Either you're subjected to the most generic background music or it's empty church quiet. The brand new soundtrack for this brand new show is just as bad and I can't for the life of me remember any of it, which is always a good sign.

I'm going to actually spend a minute here to talk about the voice acting. It might be technically decent, but none of the characters sound like they belong. The turtles sound like actors in the recording studio reading lines so much I was expecting to hear a laughing track most of the time, or for Velma to show up. Splinter isn't allowed to speak normally anymore because his VA would be too expensive, and April sounds like she doesn't even want to be in her own show.

Oh, and Rod is a curse upon humanity in every way. Please delete him before Jar Jar Binks shows up to hang out with his long lost cousin.

Lots of potential, not a single risk taken

Am I going to nitpick a show for kids? Why yes, given it's also marketed at adults with money to spend on toys. They're quite terrible, by the way. It's like they took their time to select the most unpleasant shades of green ever.

In any case, let's talk about the writing. It can be best described in one word: padding. The turtles exist in the same scenes in maybe two or three episodes, otherwise each episode is about a single turtle fucking around somewhere almost getting someone killed in the process. Both tales could be easily resolved in a couple of two-parter episodes but that would have required spending five minutes on worldbuilding to make the city feel alive in any way in the remaining episodes. It's just so much easier to bank off the movie.

The fact I have to do homework to watch a show obviously pleases me greatly too, of course. But I'm sure nothing of value was lost since everything happens in a vacuum anyway. What do they do with all this extra time, then?

They repeat the same plot points and jokes over and over, sometimes even multiple times in the same damn episode. Unfortunately, saying it again and louder doesn't make any of the jokes funny (and I specifically don't want to see someone get sick in the stomach or straight up vomit eight fucking times). The turtles are always off with some forcefully goofy non-turtle character who will be making noises or petty remarks such as "Oh, this is goofy. That didn't just happen. I'm so scawed, do something. Why aren't you solving this problem with your smartphone?"

Every episode has a pop culture reference, because I guess we needed the turtles going to school and watching Star Wars will make them more relatable, but it only serves as a reminder that you could be off watching anything else.

And with the mess Paramount did of Star Trek in recent years, they don't get to make fun of Enterprise. Archer faced off time traveling alien nazis which is way more ambitious than anything shown here.

Stuff has been recycled. Raphael doing the Batman bit was underwhelming when Michael Bay did it and it's just as insignificant ten years later. Donatello gets a spring staff for five minutes in one episode again, then it's gone forever because I guess the writers just really need to empathize that wood isn't very good at slicing like metal. Michelangelo is the group's nitwit because every group in a Nick show needs an idiot to make fun of to the point of being cruel, and Leonardo… Well, he has anxiety, I guess.

April calls herself a "journalist" but feels more like that influencer kid from Megamind 2. All the adult men are stupid and/or annoyingly useless and all the adult women manage something but also get so little attention, because we haven't cracked a joke in ten seconds, that their characterization is as deep as a piece of paper. Also Barnie is there. I'm sure everybody missed that guy.

Adding to that, they're strictly checking off points from a list to get through the episode. You just know what's going to happen next because they don't even change up the order a bit. No risk is taken ever. The supposed theme of the show, some generic "family matters" bullshit, is so diluted you hardly notice and the handholding is so strong you bet every single villain is just going to be a poor misunderstood sad bean who did nothing wrong UwU.

But I'll get back to this in a moment.

The problem with Nickelodeon

There's a few topics I specifically left out so far. The fact you don't see a lot of ninja out of these turtles but only endless teen commentary. The way it's essentially a sin to be smart and completely useless because violence is the answer. How April is being reduced once again to being the assigned mother of the turtles and the fucking love interest of one of them. The constant push to make anybody relatable because god forbid people find interest in the story of somebody unlike them. The fact nothing feels real because the funny takes priority over atmosphere and storytelling so not even the generic pep talks matter.

But that's classic Nickelodeon (and classic Paramount), isn't it? They can't make a good Spongebob episode these days, you bet they can't make something that passes for an acceptable action show. Overall, watching Tales of the TMNT brings nothing to the table. It's a generic kids show with a brand attached. They're going through the motions but there is no heart. The turtles have been placed in such neat little boxes that they end up being more generic than when they didn't have accessories, or different shapes, or were constantly rambling about pizza, and they even treat each other as walking tropes.

It's so obsessed with being marketable that everywhere you look, your mind goes "Ah, it's just like that other thing" when it shouldn't be this way. TMNT has the rare gift of being able to get weird and still make sense when properly handled.

But that isn't the case when show is too scared to even show real gangsters so I guess it'll be gone in a couple of seasons again.

One last note on Bishop

Because I’m a biased party. There was no need to call her Bishop. Even when you take away the man in black, the character at its core is someone with a Machiavellian drive who's looking at the bigger picture, prioritizing the end over the means, who's ready to go against the rules and even risk subverting the order of things they too benefit from if the result is deemed worthy of the risk (something that applies to 2012 Bishop too, actually). This Bishop, on the other hand, is just annoyed the turtles were there when a mutant messed with her lab and her employer is too rich and white to care about her sad backstory.

Truth be told, I got the impression they panicked upon realizing Baxter is dead in this universe and just kinda slapped three characters together in one to make up for it.

In practice, she's a wannabe Yzma without even a good Kronk to go with to make watching their antics worth the while.

I'm bitter and sad and salty about my art and social media capabilities. Depressed vague posting ahead.

First, I don't really mean anyone I know better than a recurring name on the internet or something. I'm vagueposting about the general public and I really appreciate the engagement I do get. I also understand that random spam and sketches are not really reblog worthy, I wouldn't reblog most doodles either.

Anyway, nothing better than having over 330 followers on my art blog, posting stuff that I'm proud of/excited about and getting the same amount of notes that random sketches get (less than 10 and that includes multiple self reblogs). Super nice posting on art servers and getting like 3 reactions while all art before and after my post (and similar in skill level) gets numerous reacts. Super great when artists vocal about the importance of reblogging leave a like if I'm lucky.

I love all of this, especially in times like these, where I'm without a job for a year now, applying for art and animation positions and getting rejected over and over again. Despite working in animation before, just for some shitty games. It's great hearing my whole life that I should pursue art because I'm soooo talented. Fucking sure, I actually believed that for a moment. That I could have a career in art because I'm pretty good at it. Apparently I'm delusional and wasted everything.

I create mostly for myself, my enjoyment, my characters. But I need people to see what I do, to say SOMETHING. I'm desperately grasping any straws I get. I spam our pathfinder discord because I can't live without showing people what I make. But showing to the void isn't enough. A heart emoji under a post means only that they like that their friend is drawing (especially something that they take part in. I would be happy if I saw a stickman drawing of anyone's character from our games). But when it comes to offering any help which would require actually vouching for my skill, there is noone. When I put hours, days into art, featuring even someone's characters, I have to ask for opinion to hear ANYTHING.

I hate that networking means everything and nothing I can do, none of my skills matter when it comes to getting a job, when it comes to stupid numbers on my posts. I barely can keep up with my closest people, and even these I regularly lose because of stunted social battery. Art contests during my animation studies were actually popularity contests. Life is a popularity contest and none of the other qualities mean anything if you don't know how to be social because you are neurologically different. I grew up believing that what I do matters, who I am matters. That being myself and doing what I love can speak for me. Turns out I'm just alone.

I don't know what's wrong with me. My art made in middle school was insanely more popular. My early art that I posted on Tumblr did better. My friends are saying the nicest things about memes I redraw in 2 minutes.

Am I actually stupid trying that hard to get a job in my fields? I don't know how to do anything else... I'll be 30 years old in October. I know people (close-ish, we regularly talk) who are my age or younger who are heads of like character design departments. Of course I tried asking them for any help. After getting a reply of "you just have to do it, I learned everything myself and my friend hired me, just do it lol" I got kinda discouraged and feel like trash for bothering people for anything. The only artistic artistic person I know personally right now is much below my level (don't wanna sound judgy and like I'm who knows how skilled), repeatedly asks me for help with animation and art and portfolio assembly and I help and I see how their stuff looks. But all that matters is their ability to sell themselves, an image of themselves. They called themselves an animator when they were unable to animate a simple walk cycle properly. And it worked. They just talked themselves into getting hired as a... 3D generalist? And now they are the main character artist/designer and animator in that studio. And I asked them for help. Got a dismissive non-answer.

I don't know what to do anymore, but clearly I'm not fit to live in the world that works like this.

Ramblings about the designs here! In order so I can get thoughts out.

So, when designing these guys I thought; remember, you do not have more than a basic 3d model of these guys and will constantly have to redraw them. Details are nice, but unless you feel you can easily stamp it, don't add it.

Roughs and descriptions under cut

Unfortunately and fortunately…Skyward Sword's Link's offical design is entirely uninteresting. It's so basic. So unlike the others I could up the design instead of pulling it down. I straight up pulled several design elements from Zelda of Skyward, including the belt buckle and sail clothe. I also kept him blond but upped his skintone as he's a people who are constantly in a sunny environment. The only reason for the blond bit was I headcanon that when people get exposed to the divine light of Hylia end up getting gold in their hair. It doesn't always go blond, but it will change from a more normal browns, reds, etc to something with a golden sheen. I decided to make him big after I researched his 'official height' and it was like 5'7". So he's big, physically and height. I know official heights and memes but I feel like these guys are actually humans who became Hylians, after Hylia saved them, so they'd be kinda the last vestiges of their human ancestry, their ears are shorter than later Hylians and their faces are rounder too. They're straight up called humans in the Hyrule Historia, though I am admittedly cherry picking from that as I see fit.

As you can see, he went through a redesign, as he had more of a Cossack look (Ukraine) but then I looked more at Zelda and realized she's wearing what appears to be a viking dress so I went more in that direction for his final design.

Outset went through several designs before I landed on where it was. Admittedly I really chased the island aesthetic before landing where I was when I realized that if I decorated Outset in all the tattoos I had planned then I might find myself in trouble with having to redraw them all again and again, even if that would me putting down a stamp. So, he got long sleeves…the tats are still under that, which I I'll post later (when I get a good version done.)

Poor Hyrule, I probably went through like 3 redesigns for this poor fae. I knew I wanted them awkward looking, but even their official art flies wildly between cute and smol to spindly with the only consistent thing being dark eyes and darker hair. They're also the literal first Link, so their clothing is super simple. 'But!' I thought, 'They're a king!' So, you know, their things have to be a little fancy. I don't see them running around in a codpiece, by any stretch, but they've likely at least got a less threadworn tunic on. So I just upped his basic design by making it a little prettier.

As you can see I played around with this a lot before settling a couple things. Main one that their hair isn't curly anymore. It does have a lot of volume still but I figured that Outset's curls were fine for now. Plus, the logical side says that unless someone is maintaining their curls for them, it's going to be short as they literally live in caves, alongside most of the population. So, no curls, sorry.

Okay, not gunna lie; Hateno looks pretty much how he looks in offical art with the only change being; I did not want to draw that much armor over and over again. So, I combined between BOTW and TOTK at random and as I saw fit. I also did not like the zonia arm, so he also didn't get that.

Descriptions below!

Skyloft; From Skyward Sword. He's 27 years old, has 2 daughters with his Zelda, who will be nicknamed Sun. They're both in a relationship with Groose. He’s leader with Sun of the peoples of Skyloft, the first Hylians. They don't have kings, that comes later (at force) from the Zonia. Groose is currently traveling the world in search of other peoples who survived the sealing wars, since supposedly there were 5. Skyloft is generally pretty settled, but the effect of fighting a literal god has reduced his stamina and made him susceptible to asthma attacks. He has a 'puffer' of Sundelion. He also occasionally suffers from terrible nightmares, visions of the far off future, and even occasional present-future, but these are sometimes mixed into actual nightmares, which causes some insomnia.

Outset; From Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. His/their pronouns bounce between he and they and they are 22 years old. Co-creator of New Hyrule with his Zelda, Tetra. She is Queen, he/they are not King, he didn’t want the title as they prefer the freedom to travel without a retinue of knights. He and Tetra have a pretty good relationship but her new duties have meant that she’s often too busy to do much more than see him when he ferries people into New Hyrule. They have a daughter together, and he is her father, but Tetra and themselves are not married, and both have agreed to an ‘open’ relationship. Outset captains a ship with his friend and first mate Linebeck on (technically) Linebeck’s ship.

Hyrule; From LOZ 1&2, Link’s Adventure. Hyrule is 17, and technically what one might consider intersex, though it is magical in nature. They can have either genitals, but usually have one genitalia when large, and the other when they’re a fairy. They’re technically king of Hyrule, as they were married to Zelda 2 shortly after Link’s Adventure, but Hyrule doesn’t rule. The two Zeldas rule together as co-ruler queens, and yes they are both Zelda, and yes it can get very confusing. They mostly go by Zelda the Elder, (LOZ2) and Zelda the Younger (LOZ1). Hyrule doesn’t really understand marriage, as both themselves and Zelda the Elder were too young for it, and Hyrule tends to just sleep with whomever whenever they feel like. It’s generally seen as fine, since ‘Kings’ often have mistresses, though people do whisper about how they take as many male lovers as they do female. They tend to be very awkward in the castle as they have no idea how to be a king and aside from going out and helping people, and have no intention to learn. Their fine tunic and jewelry is supplied by Zelda the Elder, their wife.

Hateno; From Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. They’re 24, and their pronouns tend to be whatever they feel like being at that moment. They are, previous to BOTW, effectively transgender, as they were born female and became male when they became Champion. After they awoke in the shrine they didn’t feel like any gender and are agendered. Post BOTW they’re in a relationship with his Zelda, later nicknamed Scholar, but while she generally sticks to him, he doesn’t do the same and had taken lovers all over Hyrule pre defeat of Calamity Ganon. Hateno didn’t want to stop post BOTW and while it has caused tension, is now simply how they are. She tends to travel all over Hyrule with Scholar, doing research, helping rebuild Hyrule as they had pre TOTK. There are calls about Scholar becoming Queen, and officially marrying Hateno, neither have pursued either call. The scars Hateno has are mostly just cosmetic in nature and he has full range of movement, though their seem to be a couple side effects from a hundred years in the Shrine of Resurrection…

My Anniversary Gift: A Redraw of my very first Dreamtalia Fanart back in 2019, almost three years ago-

It's kinda crazy that 2019 was three years ago and that I made it back then. I remember I drew it on the first Dreamtalia 2 Stream. I barely knew anything about Dreamtalia at the time but I still thought it was incredible and still is. Dreamtalia truely has changed my life. It's how I met so many of my now friends and even my boyfriend of three years! I can't not wait to see more!

1. How long have you been creating KakaIru fanworks?

For around 9 months now. Which makes no sense, because I’ve been shipping them for SO LONG, but I used to be a fandom lurker only. Then the pandemic came around, I started binge watching Naruto again and my otp called to me, like a siren call or something. Not sure why it took me this long to actually draw them, but I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

2. What are you working on right now?

I’m working on a small comic for halloween and also on some collabs with friends.

3. What is your favourite trope to create for?

I’m an absolute sucker for found family, and also a firm believer that Kakashi and Iruka are both disaster idiots (as artsies once said, I believe they are a dumpster fire and a dumpster fire that is marginally better disguised), so I guess those two mixed are my favourite tropes to draw for.

4. Which of your creations is your favourite, and why?

The drawings I did for Bring Dog Treats, my Kakairu Big Bang 2021 piece with my partner in crime kageillusionz. They’re my favourite because not only did I have so much fun working on them with Kage, but they were my first “big art project” after I was forced to quit art for some years for health related reasons. So they are very special to me!

5. Do you have any WIPs you’re excited about?

Excited for the collabs I’m doing with friends, I hope you enjoy those when they come around!

6. Do you have any original characters? If so, tell us about them!

I have some original characters with friends from the good old tegaki-e days. It was this online drawing board where there were several different roleplay groups people could join in with an original character, and it was very fun to draw out all our ideas together. The end result was like a comic made by several people. As per my usual stuff, it was all more to the silly side.

7. What was your hardest piece to create, and why?

Probably this drawing I did for Laz for the Umino Hours server 90 minutes to gift event. I guess all of my 90 minutes to gift were the trickiest to create because I had to rush to finish but I still wanted it to be something that would be nice enough to gift to someone. I usually play around a lot with colours and ideas before I decide on something, so not having as much time for that made it very challenging for me.

8. Do you have any favourite scenes from something you’ve created?

I love the dumbass daydreaming duo I did for kageillusionz. (here and here).They both look so stupid, I remember having a lot of fun as I tried to make it as over the top shoujo as I could.

9. Where does your inspiration come from?

Mainly from random conversations and jokes with friends. We’re always making up new scenarios and that always inspires me to draw. Also memes, I’ve done so many meme redraws, especially the brazilian ones. Twitter is usually where I’ll post these. If I see a stupid idea, you can be sure I’ll draw it, even if I’m the only one who will enjoy it. I’m a very self-indulgent artist.

10. Which of your creations is the most meaningful to you, and why?

Oh I accidentally answered this already, didn’t I? As I mentioned before, all the Kakairu Big Bang 2021 drawings mean a lot to me, but also this fanart of Iruka I made for Callaina’s fic So Golden. This was the first time in years that I got to sit down to draw and make a finished, more polished drawing that wasn’t a quick sketch. I always look fondly at it, it was a big milestone for me.

Do you have any tips on fighting art block, I haven’t drawn anything in a while and want to but don’t know what to draw

I have a few that I use yeah! First rule of thumb, The first two or three things you draw while trying to get out of artblock are most likely not going to become finished pieces, this is OKAY and ENCOURAGED, Think of it as warm-ups to ease yourself back into it! Artblock tends to happen because we set too many expectations upon ourselves or find a way to subconsciously wall ourselves off from drawing from anxiety, which also tends to block out all the ideas

Number one way, do some little warm-up exercises!

The first thing I always recommend to anyone is to draw some blobs! No really hear me out, pick an animal —personally I usually go for snakes or cats— and, if you’re on traditional do some contour lines and make some blob shapes, if you’re on digital set your brush size really high and make some blobs that look VAGUELY like your animal, than without doing any erasing, add some little details or eyes to make it look more like it’s animal, you can add to the shape— other colors, tails, ears etc— but the main rule of thumb here is NO ERASING, Filling up a sheet with them and making it simple helps you ease back into it and warms up your drawing muscles

Another one I recommend is grabbing a reference and just vaguely sketching it out, you’ll see this one repeated no matter who you ask about art block, some will say do gesture drawing, some will say do contour practice, honestly it’s whatever fits your bill. Practice some hands, doodle some random faces, grab an object and draw it in a stylized way, this doesn’t only help you practice but it can also give you some ideas for future projects, or to just turn the sketch into your favorite character lol

This one includes a little bit of mental prep but honestly? Save. Every. Sketch. Even if you make/look at it during artblock and say ‘wow I hate this’ you SAVE IT, your concepts are still good, your brain is just telling you that you can’t make it work, and yeah some of the sketches aren’t gonna be anywhere near pretty but that’s the POINT! You don’t have to work on one picture the entire time you can bounce between multiple depending on where you feel you’re most comfortable each day, and you don’t have to use every sketch as your basis but your concepts are what make your art yours, getting rid of it and only having the things that you’ve finished will give you unrealistic expectations to keep OUTSHINING them every time and set up more of a wall for yourself in the long run

This one’s a bit more specific but, character design! This is the one I use the most besides the blobs, make a creature! Grab a generator and fuse some animals together, make a fake pokemon outta it or make a new hybrid altogether, don’t worry about how realistic it is the important part of this one is the thought process, you don’t have to use it in the future you just need to make it for now, it definitely helps get your gears turning while still keeping it generally non-stressful. Grab a random mood board and make a character design out of it, take a theme (steampunk, robot, alien, clockmaker, etc) and apply it to something mundane, like coins,or pens, or book covers! Or, of course, fashion! Purposefully make the most deviantart neon edgy OC possible! Turn your main brain off and just have as much fun with it as you can, you don’t have to post it you don’t even have to show it to anyone else

A lot of artblock is about shifting your gears or changing perspectives of what you create to feel good about it again, like I said before a huge part of artblock is feeling like your art isn’t ‘good enough’ or feeling like you’ve run dry on ideas, or just pure unfiltered stress. The biggest thing you can do is to start small again, draw like a kid, don’t let your thoughts about anatomy or critiques stop you, and you’ll find yourself starting to warm back up to your own creations. At the end of the day if it’s just causing you a lot of stress trying to break through art block the best thing for you might be to actually step back and give yourself a break, and come back later.

The best part of art is you can literally do whatever you want, draw something cursed, redraw a meme, draw Frosty the snowman saying ‘fuck’, play with colors, draw something cute as scary as you can or vice versa, draw a mushroom, make up a new kind of animal or plant, draw yourself as if you were in your favorite media’s, the best way to go is to let go of all the ‘cringe culture’ mentality and just go as apeshit as possible

Paranoia, sneaking back into the subconscious to check on his now teenaged children: I'm gonna leave duke a r a t that I found and thought looked cool

Duke, waking up the next morning and yelling for 'Nesty bc "HOLY CRAP NESTY LOOK AT THIS RAT ISN'T SHE ADORABLE I WANNA HANG HER ON THE WALL": !!!!!!!!!!

Paranoia gets a habit of sitting on the fridge because his children were wild as kids and sometimes duke comin at you with a knife warrants jumping onto counters

Nesty, who doesnt get paid to deal with duke: I'm raiding dads liquor cabinet it's my due for putting up with this

Paranoia, physically manifesting: put the key to the liquor cabinet D O W N, Honesty

The lights are confused as to why he disappears at random times of the day and night and he just "leave me TF alone before I leave you a goshdarn diddly P R E S E N T while youre sleeping I'm tired"

paranoia, who has children: ,,,,yea ok

Patton ticks him off so he leaves a big halloween decor spider on his bed and nobody sleeps for weeks after that bc pattons too scared to touch it and paranoia maybeperhaps glued it onto his cover

He's like one of those people you know might mean well but ooooooo boy theyre pushin buttons

Paranoia, whos fav animal/insect is spiders and whose children have tarantulas and snakes on the regular: hes not even realistic!! You need to learn to get along with mr sparkles patton!! look at him. he's fluffy!

He has googly eyes and glitter on him at all times of course hes named mr sparkles

paranoia gets to be a little petty. as a treat

Paranoia just carries bags of glitter around and whenever mr sparkles gets duller he takes mr sparkles to the kitchen counter and he dumps glitter on him

Logan and patton are tired of cleaning up bc paranoias just petty enough to make their counters eternally sparkly

Paranoia, cackling bc finally I can get out of this horrible color: *snaps fingers * I'M PARANOIA MOTHERTRUCKERS HAVE FUUUNNNNN I'M GONNA BE MAKING YOUR LIVES LIVING HELL FROM THIS POINT FORWARDS

Paranoia, decorating for halloween bc "oh I'm sorry it's just the *sniffles * homesickness and we a l w a y s decorated for halloween" knowing full well all of his decorations are spider and witch themed bc they all like the salem witch trials

He leaves ONE fake snake in romans cereal and the lights just. Lose it. Hes kicked back into the subconscious to be chaotic with his kids, no new side, just the hours upon hours of film hes gotten from the bugs hed placed around the unconscious and a plan for the next several movie nights

He gets back and honesty is w h e e z i n g bc he was watching through the cracks and they make a fail compilation of the light sides

It takes like two months for the lights to just go insane with him around not due to yknow paranoia but bc hes such a gremlin

Patton asks if he was raised by wolves and he shoves mr sparkles at patton saying "take the issue of how I was raised up with my father, a-hole!!"

He doesnt actually curse he just yells "A-HOLE" so loud his kids can hear

They dont find out he's a dad until hes summoned and hes making cookies or smt with the kids and hes in a bright orange stereotypical witch outfit,,, corset and all and an apron that says "worlds most chaotic dad" on the front

And hes talking to one of the kids like "duke you can only put dish soap in your batch nesty cant digest it like you can"

Patton has an apron that says worlds least chaotic 'dad' courtesy of paranoia he made it himself(read: he stole pattons good apron and scribbled over it in sharpie)

Paranoia is always close to cackling when around the lights bc theyre newbs to any chaos

Roman and remus are twins but roman is the kind of kid to promptly forget abt anyone and logan n patton knew remus less than a day before he "disappeared" aka ran to the subconscious to explore and theyve just kinda blocked him out

Logans fine with it and actually likes the decorations tho he has asked if they had to be so brightly coloured and if there had to be so much glitter

I say decorations but hes a secret gremlin at heart and is super close to snickering at all times bc of the pranks

Also yes paranoia mildly dads roman it's great but he dads in an older sibling type way

~~

So pat and logan are all "hes fitting in as an older brother well" and they tell him abt their approval of his older brother chaos and hes just like "no this is how I am deal with it nothing to do with brothers" bc hes not telling them abt his kids he doesnt trust them

Hes up at like midnight complaining with logan abt how patton doesnt let him be full chaos gremlin and logan says "mmmhmm did your parents in the dark side let you go wild with the chaos" and paranoia just,,,,, looks at him, dead in the eyes, and says "I dont have parents"

Cue logan being confusion

Paranoia, who genuinely didn't have parents: my parents are mr sparkles and the cat we've had for my entire life

Logan, who doesnt know they had a cat and is now worried bc "are you taking care of it???": ???

Paranoia: it's great for keeping the Others in line tho I just say "do your chores or no snuggle time with ms peregrin" and they do their chores while I'm making dinner

logan, incredibly confused: i don't know what you mean but ok

Paranoia: yeah theyre dumb but it's the level of dumb youd expect from my idiots

Or he slips up and refers to them as his children/kids and logan, not realizing they have an Actual Father/Sons relationship/age difference(paranoias abt.late 20s early 30s, remus defies all logic and has been about 9-10 for a few years now, and dees like early teens) just says "huh how.interesting would it be to have to deal with people your age that immature" and paranoias just. "Y e a h t h e y r e t o t a l l y t h e s a m e a g e a s I a m"

Duke is very much baby and upon seeing duke eating glue paranoia and honesty the idiots decided to try it too

theyre so dumb dsdhdhdhjsdh

They AREEE and paranoia, after discovering that duke has the h a r d i e s t immune system they decide to test exactly what he can and cannot safely eat bc he may be dumb but hes also def a Dad and he just wants to take care of his kids and if that includes making sure that duke can safely consume toilet bleach then so be it

Duke can eat almost anything short of actual cyanide but cyanide just makes him sick like stomach bug sick

He somehow gets a fever,,,,, he has it for like half an hour and paranoia is amazed

Hes in bed,,,,, paranoia makes him soup,,,,,, hes all better and running around again

Paranoias parenting rules:

Dont murder your brothers pls

Do your chores or no snuggle time with ms peregrin

Glitter is always a yes

Insults are fine just make sure you dont overstep and make your brothers insecure

all of them are printed and then the last one is scrawled at the bottom in

If you get sick, tell him immediately bc he will find out and he will be the most obsessive parent to make sure you feel better ASAP

If your pronouns/name/function change, tell him immediately, he'll make sure you dont feel uncomfortable as well as he can

Duke dont put dish soap in honestys baked goods you know he cant digest it

It's a nice system for making chaos but keeping it manageable

They're all printed then the last one's scrawled in glitter gel pen and duke wrote a reply that said (I'm sorry yall dont have as good an immune system as I do)

There was a whole passive aggressive arguement on the bulletin for the next week before it got taken down to make room for dukes art

They eventually started just putting them up over each other and using magnets instead of thumbtacks

The entire bottom portion of the walls are painted in chalkboard paint so theres no unerasable drawing on the walls and the rest of the paint is magnetic so they can hang pieces everywhere

Dukes improving rapidly tho and doesnt like looking at his old art all the time so paranoia holds onto the drawings in several filing cabinets in case he ever wants to do redraws or needs his original prints to make something in the Imagination

Yeah bc "yes my child draws nothing but blood gore and new animals but hes a creative genius and I love all of his art"

Paranoia: ??? What?? It's spoopy season??

Roman: there was BLOOD on the WALLS

Paranoia, internally: oh!!!! Duke perfected his blood recipe!!!!

Paranoia, externally: how did it taste?

Roman: WHO TASTES THE BLOOD ON THE WALLS?!?!

Paranoia: if it tasted like lemons or citrus you need to stay off of most foods, stick to crackers and broth- don't eat anything heavy until you're sure you wont throw it up

Patton, who was making cereal: ????
