theres some people that are very against pirating anything like games, and I agree that it's good to pay creators for their work (especially as a creator myself) but sometimes these people that don't make sense to me. first of all, people that pirate things most likely would/could not pay for it to begin with. so nothing is being lost. but I can understand the argument there, and it's frustrating as a creator myself knowing people like to steal art and things people work hard on. so i get that. what I don't get is when it comes to old video games that haven't been sold anywhere for like 30 years

emulators are pretty easy to get online for old games. i've used them to replay games I had as a kid on my computer instead of trying to get the old Playstation to work. they're fine with that, if you own the game. but they'll often throw a fit about emulating a game you don't own and tell you to go on ebay or whatever to buy a copy of the game before you emulate it......because it....supports the creator....by paying some random middle age man on ebay who found the game in his late uncles basement and is now charging 20x the original price because he googled it and saw it's somewhat rare? I just dont see what the point is in those circumstances. if the company releases the games somewhere in modern time (like how Nintendo has a handful of old games for their online subscription thing on the switch) then sure, you're supporting the creator. but buying an expensive copy from some random nerd for over $100 when it originally cost $10 is dumb and pointless if you're not a collector. so I don't see the problem or argument against emulating those games without owning them.

an example, Playstation used to have demo discs. I played a few games on those I loved, but they were never sold in stores that I could find. I had my parents look everywhere. so I never got to play the full version until emulators! some are pretty rare. and you have to pay over $100 to get one off ebay. i'm not giving that much money to some random person just to play an old weird game I never found in stores as a kid. paying that much to a random "collector" on the internet won't do anything for the creators of this game. it will just put money in that random's pocket. so I'd rather emulated it and played through the game once and be done.

I did this with the game called Tomba like years back. it was only sold on ebay for like $125+ it was kinda fun, but don't think I even finished it. not worth that much AT ALL lmao (out if curiosity, i looked it up and there is actually a newly added "special edition" one sold for a limited time and seems to be in steam now? so if i ever feel like finishing it one day, i will buy it there, but thats not the case for other games ive googled from childhood demos) if you think I am required to pay that much and own an old game that I can no longer buy from the company that made it in order to emulate it, you're being ridiculous. so how is pirating these old games, possibly from companies that don't even exist, anymore harming anyone? games that might never be remade or remastered or resold? it's not. ebay seller will still eventually get someone to buy their outrageously expensive resold game, and I get to enjoy a piece of my childhood without handing over an ridiculous amount of money to someone that won't give it back to the developers of the game anyway.

this ps3 thing is reminding me how much of a nightmare gaymin has become not only is it stupidly expensive but you cant even play shit that you want to anymore unless its popular enough for them to keep it alive, im 99% sure that even if you buy a game disc on ps4 you need to log into your psn to be able to read it like?????? literally whats the point of buying a 400 dollar  machine that reads discs when it needs to access a server to let you READ THE DISC YOU PUT IN IT!! bitch. i heard the same happens for ps3 so good luck reading that gta 4 disc when it asks you to log in using a server than doesnt exist anymore. atleast xbox doesnt have this problem bc they use microsoft accounts which i doubt will ever not exist lol but still why tf do you need all of this 😒 nintendo doesnt get a free pass either its the absolute worst when it comes to playing old games like oh u wanted to play earthbound? well it was on the new 3ds xl in virtual console! if you didnt get it tought luck because for some reason they decided to not have it on the switch!i dont even wanna talk about paid online omfg. see this is why people swear by pc gaming i can literally log into steam and pay 7 dollars to play half life which came out in 1998

i hate that i have to play parent to my parents and aunts and uncles when they get drunk. and ill admit that they dont get drunk often!!! but. when they do its so annoying. and i feel like a dick for saying that (which is a whole other problem) but i can hear uncle harassing my fucking dog right now, shes trying to sleep bcause today has been really stressful for her. but shes being woken up by his annoying aggressive dog and his yelling and annoying shit. and i want to go get my dog and bring her in and make sure shes ok but i cant because im literally terrified of him.

but like i know that my parents have been irresponsible fucks since the very fucking beginning!!!!! i was watching family guy at age 4!!!!!! i was allowed to do whatever the fuck i wanted online when i was like 8!!!!!!!! EIGHT YEARS OLD!!!!!! I MADE A DEVIANTART ACCOUNT IN 2012!!!!! I WAS FUCKING EIGHT OR NINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEY DIDNT CARE!!!!!!!!! i dont do it anymore but i used to do nsfw roleplays when i was 11 fucking years old!!!!! i found pony porn when i was 10!!!!!! they did not fucking care!!! not once did they check, or ask me about what i was doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they dont know to this day!!!!! and i dont know if i can call that any kind of traumatic but its certainly given me a shit ton of problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and the thing that gets me the most, more than anything that theyve ever done to me, is my parents have been putting off taking my dog to the vet. which is fucking insane. because she has a giant fucking tumor and its getting worse and shes acting different and shes old and i want her to live as long and as happily as possible but she cant even curl up into a lil donut to sleep because of the tumor she has. and it just makes me so fucking MAD because ive been begging them to take her to the vet for months in case its something bad and we dont wanna be too late to save her they just keep!!!! putting it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its like? am i the only one that fucking cares about her???? im the only one that feeds her and fills up her water and checks on her when shes stressed and i want her to be okay because shes basically the only thing im fucking living for and i want her to be ok. so. fucking. badly

and like. obviously this is some real intense wishful thinking but i wish that like a teacher or a distant relative would appear and just. take me away. idk. i just wish my parents werent my parents and my family wasnt my family LOL

on the topic of splatoon rq

so like just the thing about spla2n or overwatch is that (to my understanding at least) since theres no like...... substantial single player campaign and most of the fun comes from multiplayer (i know splat has single player but its.... not the same as the others) and doesnt have a system so that you can play the multiplayer game modes against bots of varying difficulties.... OR the ability, at least in the first one, to play those games against friends more locally

the problem lies in the fact that once nobody is playing it anymore......... ur games p much worthless and it cant be played anymore. so with literally every second you DONT play the game (thats not even to say every second you dont OWN it, though that counts too, but even just for as long as it sits there unplayed) youre actively losing/wasting money

and you might say “if you enjoyed it at all for any length of time then its not a total waste, thats very pessimistic” and thats fair!!! but splatoon, which is, or at least was, a 60-80 dollar title is....... a steep price to have it one day shut down and leave you incapable of leveling up, buying more clothes, or even getting to play the fun multiplayer games

this mixed with the fact that i thought nintendo was making you pay for online services (i think theyre still doing that? but not making you pay to play multiplayer online? but if they ARE doing that they can literally eat a dick?) it made it seem like a game that was way too pricy to play only to go obsoete very soon/when people lose interest

though bc its on the switch theres a chance itll stay fresh longer, pun intended? but at the same time its been out like a year or more and thats a year of missed gametime that also makes the price and looming obsoletion not make me feel like its really worth it

if the multiplayer is free and they implement an offline turf war/ranked mode then id be all for it

ps this isnt supposed to be a lecture on why YOU shouldnt like it. just. why i specifically said i thought it was only BARELY worth buying
