You think the Chimpanzee from Dark LOVES Amity shops?
Like? Think about it...
How many places do you know, near where YOU LIVE, aren't gonna Be Weird About taking a sentient chimpanzee's legal tender. Selling him goods and services. Without, you know, doing the whole "is this a wild animal or a sentient Chimpanzee Detective person" Every Single Fucking Time, dispite him very CLEARLY wearing a suit.
Not treat him like a side show to be ogled at. Baby talked down too.
Treated as Less Then.
How many shops? Because yeah, he can buy things online. Ship them to drop points. Yes, he has a paying job. Legal rights he fought very, VERY hard for. And yeah, those rights are tenuous. Only as real as the willingness of those humans willing to enforce them. But? Money isn't worth much, with no where to spend it.
He's a grown fucking Chimpanzee for God's sake! It's frustrating and embarrassing having to ask his colleagues, to buy his groceries and other such goods, FOR him.
Then? He finds a preportedly "Meta Friendly" shop in the town he's currently working a case in? That reviews say is VERY good.
He'll be the judge of that.
After all, they all say that. Until a chimpanzee walks into their shop.
Only? Beyond the cashier's confused blinking? Nothing. They make what they CLEARLY think is a "discreet" call, the owner pops their head out from the back, look at him briefly, then merely nods. Says something into the phone that seems to clear everything up.
Not once his he bothered, as he peruses the shelves.
He even finds some tea he'd been having trouble locating and a lovely local bread that looks promising. Bobo? Has a new favorite grocery store. To hell that he must take the zeta tubes to get there. Worth it.
And that's BEFORE he learns, through a bit of artful small talk. That there is both a FULL TOWN like this AND a full network of shops/services he can locate through an app.
When they say Everyone Welcome, they truely do mean it.
He's brought swamp thing, shown up covered in blood, swung by with a literal angel for bandages and some water too make holy. Not so much as a blink. Seen Constantine staring blankly at the vodkas, like they offer salvation. The stockers step gently around. Morningstar? Not sure what he was BUYING, but Bobo watched him pay in a solid gold brick and leave with the basket.
He reported that one.
Still. It's? The most... normal, he's ever felt.

♡ ୨`kusuo saiki`୧
☆ ⸝⸝ "i thought you coming here was a one time thing", she raised an eyebrow. "just make my coffee."
kusuo saiki x reader
warnings: swearing, toritsuka.
monthly allowance. something saiki had very little trouble obtaining but had almost too much trouble trying to spend. usually he would buy a cup or two of coffee jelly but unfortunately the store had sold out. they said they would receive their next shipment in a week, but he don't feel like waiting that long.
saiki searched online for cafes that sold affordable coffee jelly and stumbled across a store that looked appealing. joyous day cafe. it had just opened up a few weeks ago and had already become a hit, they sold cutesy deserts and of course, coffee. now, he doesn't usually approach populated areas such as this one, however their coffee jelly had amazing reviews and was even sold for an even better price.
the place was, surprisingly, not as busy as saiki initially thought. the exterior was made of brick, painted an off white colour. there was pink and white striped shades above the windows and the sign was small and hung on the wall. saiki debated on whether to enter not, it was still pretty early in the day which meant it could still get busy over time. he would have turned away then and there but as he turned on his heel a familiar face peered down at him.
"oh hey buddy!", nendo grinned down at the pink haired boy who internally grimaced at his presence. he should’ve just waited for the next shipment to get to the stores. “you goin’ in? let’s go together!”
saiki was about to shake his head but was stopped by another voice that added to his demise, “saiki? you’re here?” teruhashi. great.
all he wanted to do was taste this coffee jelly and go home. but of course, fate had different plans. soon he was joined by kaido, hairo, yumehara and toritsuka. this coffee jelly better be worth it.
once they finally entered the cafe, they sat at a large booth that had soft pink seats. saiki was stationed between nendo and hairo, he was thankful the seats were large enough for at least a small amount of space to be between each person.
a waitress walked up to them, a small smile on her face. she adorned a white button up shirt, black mini skirt with a frilly apron over it and black mary janes with frilly socks. her h/c hair was in a messy low bun and she held a pen and notepad in her hands. everyone immediately recognised her, it was y/n l/n from their class.
“oh! hey guys, fancy seeing you here!”, she smiled her eyes scanned the table and beamed at the familiar faces.
now surprisingly, saiki didn’t mind y/n’s existence as much as the others. only because y/n didn’t put in too much effort into being around him. she was very casual and didn’t smother him with unwanted attention like everyone else, for that he was thankful. their interactions were short, nothing more than a quick hello or a quick conversation about whatever was going on in class but it only lasted a few words.
“what can i get you guys?” y/n clicked her pen.
everyone began ordering, they all ordered the most popular or random dishes. bear shaped tarts, paw print waffles, galaxy tea? it was all so bizarre.
of course, saiki ordered his simple serving of coffee jelly. however, another item on the menu caught his eye. it was called the psychic special. obviously it was just a fun name but he couldn’t help but feel intrigued by the name. the small description stated it was a latte that had a random choice of latte art, if you guessed what the latte art was, you’d get your order half off.
y/n simply nodded and said she’d be back with their orders. toritska’s eyes wandered a little too far down for saiki’s liking, his gaze grazing against the back of y/n’s thighs. "who knew l/n was such a hottie? with legs like that she should be model!". these thoughts irritated saiki so, with enough force to inflict pain, yet not too much as to cause a scene, saiki kicked the purple headed male’s shin. when he yelped in pain, saiki smirked.
"perv"
the group began to babble about the cafe’s interior and admired the many cutesy decorations splattered everywhere. meanwhile, saiki had taken notice of a glass case that had a variety of hot steaming treats aligned neatly next to each other. it was right next to the register and also next to the machine that made the coffee, which happened to be where y/n was.
“hey saiki,” she smiled, “i saved you a small booth over by the corner, thought you’d want some peace and quiet away from that bunch” she pointed over to the group of teens that had suddenly started an arm wrestling match. currently, nendo was on a winning streak.
“you’re an angel in disguise, l/n” saiki nodded at her with his usual stoic expression.
“just doing my job!” y/n gave him a thumbs up before her expression turned quizzical, “what’s up with you coming here? not that i mind, just doesn’t seem like a saiki kinda place”
saiki continued to look at the treats through the shiny glass, “me being here is a one time thing, don’t get used to seeing my face.”
y/n just wordlessly nodded with a smile as he hobbled over to the booth that she saved. it was in a plant covered corner, there was a bookshelf to the left and a window to the right. it only had two chairs, one was occupied by saiki and the other was vacant. in between was a brown circle table. perfect.
a few minutes passed before y/n approached saiki with his order on a circular tray. a glass with a small white ribbon looped around the stem sat neatly in front saiki, the brown gelatin dish smiled up at him, a swirl of whipped cream sat atop the dessert. y/n placed a mug with a small umbrella like cover over the top that saiki assumed contained his 'psychic special'.
"now as you probably guessed, if you guess the latte art, you get your entire order for half of the original price" she slid the tray underneath her arm as she awaited saiki's response.
now obviously this was just a fun game that some people would play, a game of chance. except, this little game was nothing to saiki, being psychic and all, this was just way too easy.
"its a heart" he bluntly stated.
y/n lifted the cover to reveal indeed, it was a heart. she smiled at him warmly, "you're one of the first customers to get that right, good job saiki" she left his table after explaining she would be back with his bill. at this point, the cafe might as well be a restaurant.
when she left, saiki couldn't help but look at her longingly as she walked away. she was definitely one of the more tolerable ones, he couldn't believe he actually enjoyed her presence.
scooping up a chunk of the coffee jelly, he plopped the serving into his mouth and nearly melted at the taste. it was just the right amount of sweet and bitter, the cream made the jelly smoother than regular jelly. it was like heaven!
"holy shit"
after saiki had paid for his order, he waved goodbye to y/n.
"see you at school saiki! thanks for stopping by!" she saved at him, it was a miracle she didn't see the obvious flush of his cheeks. then again, saiki probably cooled himself down before anything could make an appearance.
"buddy! where were you?! we were so worried!" oh.
saiki had been so caught up in enjoying his meal that he forgot about the problems that awaited him. they seemed to have been standing outside waiting for his arrival, how dedicated. they all expressed their worry for his sudden disappearance which made his once amazing mood slightly falter.
they all started down the bricked path, saiki taking one final glance at the cafe. he looked at the building longingly, a strange warm feeling pooling inside of him. he had never felt something like this before, best to not do anything about it.
the bell that hung on the door frame rung throughout the mostly empty cafe, alerting the h/c haired girl behind the counter.
“welcome to joyous day, how may i-“ she stopped herself “saiki?”
our pink protagonist smiled fondly at y/n, something that was never seen. he adorned a pale blue polo shirt and black jeans. something casual yet classy for his visit.
“i’ll get what i ordered last time please” saiki pointed at his usual order on the small menu board, earning a skeptical look from the girl opposite him. she simply nodded.
she started to prepare the hot drink, although her eyes never left the psychic. her cheeks glowed at him, her heart rate picking up slightly. she never took him for the kind of person to become a regular at this establishment, she took him for a simplistic guy. not that she was complaining, if he was here a lot more she’d actually look forward to coming to work. unbeknownst to her, kusuo was feeling something similar.
“i thought you coming here was a one time thing?” she raised a brow.
“just make my coffee”

Your feedback will help in this and future works (and WiPs, I haven’t forgotten those!) Please do not just put ‘more’. I will block you.
I love you all immensely. Take care. 💖
Another unit done. You’re not certain how you’ve kept it up but you’re just waiting for your motivation to fizzle out. Each activity, each page, you teeter on the edge of oblivion. Workbook Five is almost complete and Six will be the final for the course. There’s a shell of disbelief around you. You really did it.
Well, not quite yet.
You sit back and stretch your neck and shoulders. Your teachers always told you to stop hunching but your shoulders always curled forward and your neck sunk anyway. Not out of defiance, just to make yourself small, maybe even, invisible.
You stand, fingers cold and slightly numb. It’s a rainy day and the cold seeps in as your mother keeps the radiator off. You tuck your hands into your hoodie sleeve and find your slippers, a faded old pair that used to be somewhat fluffy.
It’s quiet. You haven’t heard your mother at all. It’s not too unusual. After a binge, sometimes she just sleeps all day and night. You don’t like it, you don’t like that it’s normal, but it’s just how she is. How it is and always will be.
Well, you’re trying to change yourself. You can’t change her or this place.
You open the door slowly and peek out. A habit. You emerge quietly and rub your nose with your cuff, sniffing behind your sleeve as you shuffle into the kitchen. You do your best not to make too much noise as you fill the kettle. You have a few more bags of green tea, the you’re all out. You need to go back to the grocery store but the food credits won’t come until next week.
You turn the dial on the stove and lean against the front as the kettle sits on the back burner. You close your eyes, groggy and slightly dizzy. You’ve been staring at numbers for so long, you don’t even know what time it is. Morning at night, you can’t tell by a glance through the gray window.
You yawn again. Maybe chamomile might be a better choice. You lift your head and lean back on your heels as you mull the decision. The floor creaks with your weight as you shift indecisively. You’re not even sure you have any left.
As you back up, you collide with something, someone, else. You grunt as suddenly there’s a clamp around your neck and you’re shoved forward against the stove. You brace the edge, careful not to touch the top as the heat from the burner radiates across the metal.
Lee’s chuckle brushes over your hair, “there you are, girl. You been hiding.
“Eek, no--” you squirm and writhe.
He’s too strong. He pushes harder and you’re forced to bend, precariously hovering over the stove, the kettle not far from your cheek. You squeak as your slippers scuff on the floor between his feet.
“Please--”
“You should be begging,” he snarls, “little girl like you, messing where she shouldn’t be.”
“I’m sorry,” you squeal, “you were hurting her--”
“Ain’t none of your business, is it?” He jolts you and you nearly hit your head off the back of the stove. He grabs your wrist with his other hand as he pinches your neck tighter. “Your mama likes it rough, don’t ya know? Walls ain’t that thick.”
You whine and struggle to resist him as he brings your hand up, angling it towards the kettle as you hear that water starting to hum. You can feel the heat roiling from it. You push back against him, pressing your hand to the back of the stove to get better leverage.
“Want me to hurt you? Is that it? Tired of just listening,” he snorts, your hand shaking close to the kettle as you babble, “suppose like this, won’t be too bad.”
He wiggles his pelvis against you and you hiccup in fear. You twitch and he shoves your hand against the kettle. You cry out as it scalds your skin, steam hissing through the spout and towards your face. Your eyes well and you gnash your teeth.
“Pl-please,” you plead and he lets go of your arm, framing your hip instead.
He pulls you back against him, “Mmm,” he shakes his hips again, “think I could. You ain’t bad from behind.”
Horror erupts up your throat as you scramble desperately, trapped by his weight. You grab onto the handle of the kettle, even as your burnt flesh screams, and you hurl yourself back. He staggers as you swing the heavy vessel in his direction but it only splashes on your slippers as he dodges away from you. A flare of anger lights up his blue eyes.
“Ha,” he sneers at you, “you’re funny, girl. Got a whole lotta fight for nothing. Far as I can tell, ain’t no other man around to want you. Not even your daddy.”
You lower the kettle, breathless and terrified. The sting of his word wounds more than the blistering flesh on your fingers. You shake your head.
“Leave me alone,” you croak.
“Hmph,” he curls his lips, “just you wait,” he eyes you up and down.
You stand, paralysed by the stove. He stomps away and you watch him go, not daring to move. When you hear your mother’s door slam, you shakily set the kettle on the countertop. You turn your hand over an examine your palm, the sight of it adding to the agony.
You don’t know how you can write now.
📓
You tap the mousepad twice to get it to react. Your poorly wrapped hand makes everything double the task. You huff as you switch hands, awkwardly navigating to the email icon. You expand the window and find a new email. Professor Smith.
‘Thank you for your last submission. I have reviewed your work and would like to provide feedback via Zoom if possible. Please provide times which work for you.
Looking forward to speaking again.
Take care,
Raymond
As usual. He is very direct. You can almost appreciate that about him and yet it does not rein in your paranoia. Feedback via Zoom? Why? Can’t he just write it down? Did you do something wrong?
Ugh. You slump and stare at the keyboard. It can’t be avoided. You haven’t even started Six because of your hand. Maybe a review would be helpful. Besides, it would be a waste to give up now. It wasn’t so bad before, was it?
You hit reply and key in your response slowly with one hand.
‘Hello Professor,
I can do anytime tomorrow.
Thank you.’
It isn’t the most academic or professional response. You don’t know what else to say. You have no schedule to adhere too, you can only hope your mom isn’t making a racket.
You send and close up the laptop. You have to rewrap your hand. It’s really hurting but you’ve been rationing the Polysporin. You just want it to heal quick so you can finish your work.
📓
Professor Smith confirms for nine in the morning. You make sure you’re awake but your head is pulsing. Your sleep schedule is all off. You opt for a plain long-sleeved tee over the hoodie, trying to appear as presentable as you can. Nothing you own can compare to his tidy attire; you recall his sweater and stiff collar. Often, you find yourself wilting over how he must think of you. Just like everyone else does, you suppose.
You get set up. Your room isn’t too bad. You’ve been trying to keep up on it. Your laundry is in a basket although the bookshelf is getting a bit cluttered again. Oh well, he won’t be able to see much around you.
You open the laptop. Ten minutes to go. You can hardly sit still. Your anxiety peaks as you hear your mom’s voice from down the hall. It’s early for you, but even earlier for her.
There’s a knock at the door, “honey, do we got any coffee left?”
“Mom,” you get up and go to the door, cracking it open, “I left enough for a pot in the tin. I’m still waiting on the credits.”
“Oh,” she smiles through the narrow space, “Lee musta used them the last of it.” She smiles. She’s drunk. She hasn’t just woken up, she’s been awake all night. She turns and waddles away unsteadily, “baby, we got no coffee.”
You sigh and shut the door. You go back to the computer. Please don’t make a ruckus. You don’t need another scene.
You click the meeting link and fidget. You’re not ready. Are you ever? Life is just doing things you’re unprepared for.
You wince as Professor Smith appears on the screen. He greets you by name and you return a ‘hello, professor’.
“Good morning?” He asks brightly.
You shrug, “yeah, I guess...” you look one way then the other, uncertain, “how are you, professor?”
“Great, thanks for asking,” he reaches for a tall mug and takes a sip before exhaling, “so, I suppose you would just like to get this over with.”
“Um, no, er, I...”
“Not saying anything about you,” he assures as he leans forward, crossing his arms over the desk. His eyes scan through his lens and you realise he must be reading something on the screen, “you’ve done wonderful work. I especially wanted to high light a few things.”
“Oh, uh, yeah, I probably made some mistakes,” you clumsily click around as his image remains in the corner of the screen. You hiss as your fingers throb and open the workbook.
“On the contrary, it’s perfect. In fact, you’ve managed to bring my own error to light. I was certain at first it wasn’t me but I went in a redid the work for Problem Eight. Clever.”
You sit back and nod, surprised.
There’s a thump and your mom’s voice, met by Lee’s rumbling timbre. Muffled enough that their words can be deciphered but you worry it is still heard through the microphone. You clear your throat and move closer, sitting up as you bring your injured hand to rub your neck.
“A lot going on?” Smith wonders.
“No, sir, sorry, I wasn’t expecting it,” you shrug and scratch your cheek, the gauze rough and loose.
“Oh my, what’s happened there? Are you alright?”
You pause and jerk as another bang sounds and your mother’s cackle erupts, stopping sharply
“Yes, sir,” you quickly hide your hand, “I had an accident. Um, I was going to ask... it’s taking me a while to type...”
“By all means, we may discuss accommodations,” he assures, “I am, as ever, patient. Most importantly, you must take care of yourself.”
“Sir,” you nod and your door rattles in the frame. “Um...” you glance over your shoulder. Why now?
“Are you certain this isn’t a bad time?”
“I’m sorry,” you face the laptop, “I didn’t think--”
“Hey, you lazy bitch!” A hard rap shakes the door behind you, “get out here.”
You go wide-eyed and stare at the screen. No. Please. Not again.
Professor Smith’s brow ripples and his jaw squares, “it seems you’ve got some chaos over there.”
“It’s just... I... one sec,” you bring the call full screen and search for the controls and hit mute. You stand up and go to the door, trying to block it out with your body. You open it as Lee smirks back at you, “we’re all outta coffee. Why don’t you go and get us some?”
He holds up a ten dollar bill and flicks it against your nose, “y’ain’t got nothing else to do.”
“I’m busy,” you say, “can it wait a few minutes?”
“Busy?” He snips, “with what? You can watch your damn TV when you get back.”
“Sorry, but I can’t--”
“Lee, she’ll go in a bit,” your mother preens from down the hall.
“I got a damn headache, she can drag her ass out right now,” he barks back at her, “it’s my money, ain’t it?”
“Please, I’m... just after.”
“Why? Whatcha hiding?”
“Nothing, it’s school--”
He shoves the door and you stumble back, hitting the bookshelf with your shoulder. He bulls past you and looks around, his eyes narrowing on your laptop. You turn to see the professor watching intently from his side of the call and you scurry to catch up with Lee and stop him. He elbows you away, tossing you against your bedframe. You hit it and crash to the floor.
“I see, you entertainin’,” he scoffs and hits the keys several times.
“Who are you, sir?” Smith asks, his tone cool but dangerous.
You hear the little blip that signals the mute is off, “should ask ya the same. Whatcha doin’ talkin’ to young girls, eh?”
“Is she your daughter?” Smith challenges and gets a chortle in return.
“Nah, just a whore like her mother, ain’t she? You’d know better than me.”
You get to your knees and grab at his hand, “please, he’s my professor.”
“Don’t lie to me. Irene,” he spins as he hollers for your mother, “come see what your daughter’s doin’." He pauses to grit over his shoulder, "If ya gonna be whorin’ on the internet, you should at least try to get some money outta it.”
“Huh, Lee, leave her alone,” your mom appears in the doorway and you crawl past Lee, keeping low as you reach up to keyboard and feel around.
Professor Smith says your name but you hold the power button until the laptop fan slows and quiets. You sit back on your heels and look over as Lee peers around your room. Your mom sways in the doorway.
“Who was that?” She asks.
“I told him, it’s my professor--”
“You ain’t smart enough for all that book stuff,” Lee growls, “go on and keep lyin’.”
“Why do you care?” You sniff.
“Honey, don’t be rude.”
“Mom,” you whine, “he shouldn’t be in here.”
“Lee, baby, I’ll go get the coffee,” she redirects. You hang your head.
“I want her to go,” he turns and throws the ten at you, “the way she leach of ya, it’s the least she can do.”
You wince, “it’s okay, mom, I can go.” You grab the desk and stand, swiping up the bill. You need to get out of this apartment. Staying will only make him angrier. Staying will only make she shame worse.

Progression - Chapter 30 Preview (Part 3!)
I wasn't going to share another preview, but since it is Pride Month and Thailand legalized same sex marriage, it felt appropriate to share this scene - which can sort of stand alone, even if you don't follow this particular story but love ArmKhun. 🙂
Scene/One-Shot under cut:
Tankhun had planned a private laser show on the beach!
“We can still watch the laser show,” Arm says, sounding like he is incredibly nervous, “I don't see why we wouldn't. I didn't realize you planned something like that. I just…This morning, you said you wanted tonight to be low-key. I didn't realize you planned a surprise of some sort. So I planned this because…because I love you. I never thought falling in love was in the cards for me. I just didn't. But I have had feelings for you for years, and they have only grown stronger since we got together and…was this not good enough? I had them decorate a secluded bridge over a koi pond with your favorite flowers and tea lights. There is a string quartet playing the song we first slow danced to. Did I do something wrong?”
“Yes!” Tankhun says accusingly, putting his hands on his hips. Arm’s expression immediately looks crestfallen and Tankhun would normally feel TERRIBLE for making Arm feel that way, even for a second.
But Arm beat him. He came up with this beautiful proposal with just the right amount of romanticism and intimacy. Even if Tankhun still had the opportunity to one up this, he wouldn't be able to. The laser show was supposed to be private and fun. Tankhun was going to play dumb and act like it was a surprise for him too. Songs that had meaning to them were to play before the daunting question spelled itself out across the sky. It had been incredibly expensive to come up with and make happen within forty-eight hours, and it isn’t even going to happen.
“You…” Tankhun tries to explain, then lets out a groan, pulls the box out of his pocket, and waves it in the air, “You ruined MY proposal! It is scheduled for midnight. That is just in twenty minutes, and you beat me! Do you know how long I have been carrying this ring? Almost nine months! You could have developed a healthy baby in your womb during that time, and don't say that isn't possible! You’ve ruined my proposal with your perfect one, so you get to be knocked up with our child in this scenario and not point out the flaws in my logic! I want a girl! Accept!”
When Tankhun finally calms down enough to take in his boyfriend's demeanor once more, he sees that he's holding back a laugh. He thinks this catastrophe is funny.
“Arm!” Tankhun says, stomping his foot once, “Stop.”
“I'm sorry,” Arm says quickly, then steps closer, “If I had realized you were going to propose to me, I would have just let you do the honors. It was very daunting and stressful to plan this out.”
“And you think I didn't have the same experience?” Tankhun asks, “You should have given me a head's up! I would have cast my plans aside and geared myself up for such a beautiful moment!”
“You’re the one who should have given me a head’s up!” Arm says defiantly, “You’ve had a ring for longer. I only got this one right after Kim moved back into the compound.”
Tankhun looks at Arm sullenly, “You have only wanted to marry me half the time I’ve wanted to marry you?”
Arm lets out a groan and steps closer, “Of course not. I was fooling around with different designs for months. I wanted something that would represent your taste and personality. I was looking at different shops online, visiting stores during my free time, and making calls. I finally decided on an online store when I looked into customer reviews, but even then, I spent a long time trying to figure out what would work for you! You can be picky, Khun! And I wanted to get something you would love but would still compliment mine if I designed one for myself because I want everyone to know we belonged to each other. I know I said I didn't mind that your family didn't know back when we were keeping this a secret from them, and that was mostly true. Your reasons for keeping it from them for so long were valid. But I knew that I would face them - or even approach them alone - if you said yes. I love you, Khun. I love how smart and charismatic you are, how devoted you are to your brothers. You love my sisters and nieces like they're your blood, and I love that about you too. I love how you treat your fish like they're your children and how creative you are in so many different ways. I especially love how strange, dramatic, and demanding you can be-”
“I have never been strange, dramatic, or demanding!” Tankhun says shrilly, only for Arm to take his face in his hands.
“You are. And if you suddenly stopped being that way, I would hate it. I love everything about you and want to marry you because you're it for me.”
Arm lets his hands drop at that point and Tankhun lets the words sink in. While he is still slightly frustrated his proposal plan was derailed by Arm’s proposal plans, that was a beautiful declaration of love. A bit of a ramble at times, but Arm is more introverted than he is and was never on the debate team like Tankhun was. And even though Tankhun has the skills to make a beautiful speech, he supposes he would also be flustered if the situation was reversed.
The situation could have easily been reversed if Arm had just waited a little longer. But Tankhun does appreciate the effort he has put into this.
“Let me see the ring,” Tankhun says, then realizes that sounds slightly demanding and is proving Arm right, “Would you please show me the ring?”
“You don't have to ask. I was going to show you when I got down on one knee and you interrupted me.”
“You took me by surprise!” Tankhun says, then lets out a sigh and pushes the box back towards Arm, “I'm sorry I ruined your proposal. But to be fair, you ruined mine first. Take two!”
Arm stares at him in bewilderment, “Huh?”
“It means try again. Sheesh, Arm! Don't you watch any of the behind the scenes clips I send you for the dramas we binge?” Tankhun says, then pushes on Arm’s shoulders, “Go on. Get on one knee. I’ll be quiet this time, I promise!”
“You promise?” Arm asks cautiously but slowly starts to lower himself to the floor of the bridge. Once he is fully in position, Tankhun nods in approval and Arm takes it as a signal to go ahead.
“Tankhun,” Arm starts as he looks up at him, “I’ve cared for you since the first day I met you and loved you since that day my biological father unexpectedly visited the compound to bug me about money and you punched him so hard that he fell into the pool-”
“That was five years ago!” Tankhun cuts in with surprise, but then lets out a laugh, “That was really funny! I punched him in front of all the guards! Even Chan laughed and…Sorry. I interrupted. Continue.”
Arm smiles a little, then pulls the box out again, “I’ve loved you a little more and more each day - both the good ones and bad. I didn't think it was possible to love someone more, but when you made your feelings known too, I felt emotions I had never experienced. They were terrifying, exhilarating, and a comfort, and I will cherish you and what I feel for you every single day for the rest of our lives. Will you marry me?”
When Arm shows him the ring, it's beautiful. It's a rose gold band with a larger inlay of a dark green stone, and a smaller one underneath that is white. It will stand out, but still be sleek and subtle, just like Arm’s is.
In fact - other than the inlay colors - it looks a LOT like the one Tankhun made him.
“Did you order that from this site?” Tankhun asks, pulling out his phone to look up the site in question.
Arm leans in to look at it, “How did you know?”
“I had to pay so much in shipping costs just to get them to do yours!” Tankhun says, “I can't believe they profited so much from our love!”
“Malai helped me out with it. She has embassy connections from her old job and access to an address they would freely ship to,” Arm says, “I didn't have to pay for the ridiculous fee they were asking for that way.”
“Ugh, I should have asked around!” Tankhun says, “I thought about it, but I didn't want word to get back to Pa and-”
“Tankhun, you still haven't answered.”
Tankhun gives him an exasperated look, “Well, of course it's a yes. I literally planned a proposal. You thought there was a chance of me saying no? You're so silly, Arm. You know, for someone so smart, you can be unsure of the undying and unconditional love myself and others have for you and-”
Before Tankhun can finish, Arm is back on his feet, slipping the ring onto Tankhun's left ring finger, and pulling him in for a deep kiss. Tankhun fully returns it as he wraps his arms around his boyfriend's shoulders and pulls him closer.
His fiancé’s shoulders. Because that is what Arm is now. His fiancé.
“So you talked to Malai about this and she didn't tell me even though we are going to be lawyers together,” Tankhun says with a sigh, “Did you tell the rest of your sisters?”
“Just Hansa,” Arm says, still holding him close, “I figured Nalin and Preeda would bombarde me with different suggestions on how to ask you, which would just overwhelm me more. But other than Malai and Hansa, I told Pol.”
Tankhun feels a jolt of annoyance, “I told Pol! I can't believe he knew we would have conflicting plans to propose to each other and he just let it happen!”
“To be fair, he risked pissing both of us off if he would have said anything.”
…That's true.
“Did you ask Pa or Kinn for their permission?” Tankhun asks.
Arm shakes his head, “It's your decision. Not theirs. I don't think either of us need their permission for this. We are our own people.”
Tankhun grins at that, brings him in for another kiss, then cups his face, “I only told Pol and Nam at first, but I ended up telling Kim and Kinn on weed brownie night. Everyone approves.”
“Even Kinn?”
“He was much more supportive than I thought he would be,” Tankhun says, “Granted, that brownie hit him hard. He was concerned about having cancer. He thought there was a freckle on his nail bed, so I suppose his impending doom made him prioritize his concerns. It turned out to be speck from a marker when your nieces begged him to color with them. All of that worrying for nothing! But the few people who do know have been very supportive.”
“Good,” Arm murmurs, “I'm glad.”
“Me too,” Tankhun says gently, then kisses him once more. He could stay in this moment forever.
Except…
“The laser show will start any minute!” Tankhun says with a shout as he breaks off the kiss, then presses his finger against Arm’s chest, “This didn't happen, okay? This proposal can re-enter your mind after I propose to you, but for now? You have to pretend to be surprised.”
Arm bites back a smile, “Ah. Of course. So you said there was a good view of the beach over this way?”
Tankhun preens under Arm’s willingness to play along, “I did! I can't wait to show you. I just thought of it a few minutes ago, but it's a new moon tonight. The sky should be dark and the stars will be easier to see. Oh, look! A string quartet! I wonder why they're here?”
And while he hears Arm break character by laughing at the remark, Tankhun lets it slide. As soon as they are on the blanket and the laser show starts, complete with songs and impressive graphics, Arm is sucked in. And despite having a general idea of what the show is made up of, Tankhun finds himself sucked in as well. When the words, “Will you marry me?” are made up with a group of lit up drones, Tankhun lets out a sound of delight before sitting up.
“Look at that!” Tankhun says, pointing at the sky, “I wonder who that is for?”
“I wonder,” Arm says. When Tankhun glances down at him, he is taken aback when he sees tears glistening in Arm’s eyes.
“Are you crying?” Tankhun asks, then glances up at the sky, “Is it that bad? I went with both privacy and technology, which are both things you like-”
“I loved it,” Arm says, his voice gruff, then quickly wipes his eyes, “And I'm not crying.”
“Lies!” Tankhun declares, then claps his hands, “I moved you that much! So? Does that mean yes? Or are you not sure?”
Arm squints at that, “Why do you think I wouldn't be sure? I just proposed to you less than ten minutes ago-”
“Shhh!” Tankhun says, hushing him, “Remember our agreement. That particular memory is wiped from our minds until my proposal has passed and we can make both proposal stories fun and sweet anecdotes to tell our seven daughters later.”
“Seven?”
Tankhun huffs, “I was robbed of sisters, Arm! There are plenty of reasons I call Kimberly by what should have been his name. I would have been a wonderful older brother to girls and I got younger brothers instead! Let me be a girl dad! I was cheated!"
“I am sure Kinn and Kim are both very grateful that things worked out the way they did.”
“They better be,” Tankhun says, “So what do you say? Seven daughters? I was thinking one who is biologically yours, one who is biologically mine, one who is a surprise, and four adopted.”
“...I am not opposed to having all girls.”
“I didn't think you would be,” Tankhun says, “It suits you, being outnumbered by your sisters and nieces. Let's add onto the count-”
“But I think we should only have two.”
“Six.”
“Three?”
“Five!”
“Four,” Arm says with a pointed finality. And even though four is technically closer to Arm’s original number than Tankhun's original number, he will accept it for now. There could always be a surprise twin or triplet that will pop up in their future surrogate’s pregnancy, or a group of several sisters who deserve to have the same home with two loving parents, or-
“Can we focus on the engagement and wedding planning before we have babies?” Arm asks, “We can look into egg donors or adoption websites as soon as we get back from the honeymoon, but-”
“You need to say yes first.”
“Hm?”
Tankhun sighs, “You got on me about not giving you a clear answer to your proposal to me, but now you are delaying giving an answer to my proposal! It's rude, Arm! Not to mention hypocritical. We can only be engaged if you say yes.”
“Even though you said yes to me already?”
Tankhun raises an eyebrow, “You really need to learn how to roleplay. We shall add it to our sex lives and practice in the bedroom.”
Arm sputters at that and while Tankhun genuinely enjoys making him this flustered, he wants a real answer.
“Do you need to see the ring before you say yes or no?” Tankhun asks, pulling out the box again. It's only when he flips it open that he realizes how dark it is.
“I don't need to be able to see the ring to tell you yes,” Arm tells him.
“Fine, but hold onto your answer until you see it!” Tankhun says dismissively, “I worked really hard at designing it and I'm proud of it! I think you will really like it!”
As Tankhun turns on the flashlight from his phone, Arm looks down at the ring and his smile gets wider.
“It's a very nice ring. I love it.”
“Good,” Tankhun says with a nod, then takes it out of the box and has it ready between his fingers, “You can give me your answer now.”
Arm holds his left hand out and lets Tankhun hold it, “Yes. I will marry you.”
Tankhun finds himself smiling ear to ear. And maybe - just maybe - there are tears in his eyes too.

Danganronpa Cooking Headcanons!
Makoto made only average grades in high-school Home Ec, so he's inclined to discount his cooking skills. He can make his own meals if his mom is out of town or he doesn't have any pocket money for the school cafeteria. But he'd sooner pick up something at the corner store on his way to school. He doesn't share the food he makes with others, so he hasn't figured out that he's actually a better cook than he realizes. Curry over rice or noodles is his favorite food, and he always makes his own rather than using cheap storebought packs.
Aoi loves doughnuts so much she learned how to make them herself. Yeast doughnuts, cake doughnuts, deep-fried or baked, with all kinds of glazes and toppings… she's even mastered a recipe she found online for making them out of potatoes. Naturally, the skills Aoi picked up have translated into baking projects like cookies and pies. These usually turn out well so long as she doesn't absent-mindedly leave out an ingredient or forget she has something in the oven. She's flirted with the idea of opening her own bakery once she scores a few gold medals and retires from professional swimming.
The only thing Byakuya can make for dinner are reservations, and he usually has a servant on hand to make the phone call. Byakuya claims cooking is peasant-work beneath his station. But put him in a kitchen and you'll discover the truth: he's never been in a position to cook for himself, so the poor bastard can't even operate a coffeemaker. Microwaves frustrate him in particular--the one time he tried to use one, he didn't take the aluminum foil off the plate. To this day, he prefers to believe the machine was defective, something off with the wiring.
Celestia doesn't cook; she is cooked for… and you better damn sight not screw it up! As a child, Taeko loved making her favorite gyoza with her mother. Even if they weren't evenly fried or the stuffing came out of them after the first bite, Taeko enjoyed the experience of making them almost as much as eating them. But that was a lifetime ago. Ask her to prepare some gyoza these days, she'll scream at you for mistaking her for the help, distracting both you and herself from the fact that she's forgotten how.
Chihiro enjoys baking; he regards it as a combination of science and art that forces him to train different parts of his brain. Plus, you can eat the results if the experiment is a success! A video "she" posted of "her" attempt at baking chocolate-chip-oatmeal-raisin cookies briefly went viral, if only because it stood out from "her" usual gadget reviews and programming guides. "She" even received a few marriage proposals from fans afterward. As far as Chihiro's concerned, it's to the good if his fans liked it… and the demonstration of domestic skills helps him maintain the masquerade.
Quite frankly, Hifumi thinks cooking is "women's work", something females are supposed to do for the men they love. Furthermore, this junk-food junkie buys most of his food from vending machines and convenience stores, something he can shovel down while creating his latest Princess Piggles epic. He can fix himself a sandwich or boil up some tea or coffee if he absolutely has to, but that's it. Anything that requires actual effort, like Celestia's favorite royal milk tea, and Hifumi is out of his element.
Junko's analytical prowess allows her to pick up things quickly, and if she wanted to learn how to cook, she could do so almost overnight. But she doesn't want to. The aggravation she causes people by making them wait on her causes them despair, and not getting the food she needs and that feeling of hunger that results creates despair in her. Honestly, the only reason she would ever cook something for anyone is for the opportunity to adulterate it or poison it. Junko dresses to kill and cooks pretty much the same way.
As a cook, Kiyotaka is hyper-competent but spectacularly uncreative. He goes straight by the cookbook, following recipes exactly as written… and his insistance on "the proper way to make such-and-such" renders him unable (or at least unwilling) to innovate his own dishes. He noticeably fumbles when improvising alternatives to unavailable ingredients or equipment. Finally, he avoids preparing anything he deems unhealthy, lest he weaken the body and spirit of the people who eat it. You'll eat healthy and well with Taka in the kitchen… just don't expect dessert, unless it's fresh fruit or yogurt.
Kyoko's overprotective grandfather would allow her to make her own food, but not to use the stove, the oven, or particularly sharp knives for fear she might accidentally hurt herself. After all, she was destined to be a detective, not someone's housewife. She understands the processes of cooking, and even the science behind fermentation, heat transfer, why coriander tastes like soap to her, etc.. But she herself rarely cooks, relying on family servants for her meals. Oh, and Kyoko finds most instant foods greasy and disgusting… especially cup ramen.
So one time there was this girl at school Leon liked, and she was really into cooking, baking, stuff like that. So he figured he'd learn how to cook and totally impress her with his Mad Kitchen Skillz. He blew all his cash on cookbooks and utensils and ingredients--but pretty much everything he made got burned or half-cooked or just plain tasted like shit. While recovering from food poisoning from his own undercooked chicken yakisoba, Leon found out his dream girl was now dating an upperclassman. Eh. At least he can follow the directions on a box of cake mix. Hope you like it crunchy.
The Owada brothers both learned the basics of cooking at their mother's insistence. She knew one day they'd have to grow up, stop running wild in the street, and take care of themselves. Her lessons came in handy when first Daiya, then Mondo, had to look after their biker brothers with less involved parents. Mondo privately wishes he could learn how to do more stuff in the kitchen--making things instead of breaking them--even though it might seem a little sissified. Um… no, Mondo has no strong opinions about butter… why do you ask?
Life as a transient mercenary taught Mukuro basic survival skills, including how to set up a serviceable field kitchen, purify water, and hunt and forage enough provisions to support herself and her team. Ever the team player, Mukuro will readily volunteer to help with mess duty and even may take command to get the job done… unless Junko orders her not to. In fact, as long as her sister is around, letting her handle food is dangerous. She'll follow her sister's lead in making it inedible or potentially deadly.
When she's not chugging protein drinks, Sakura appreciates a nice big meal to give her strength for the day's training and fights. She enjoys preparing a large Japanese-style breakfast--several bowls of rice and miso, with tsukemono and natto made from cucumbers and soybeans grown in the dojo's gardens. She won't buy pre-packaged foodstuffs without checking the nutritional label. Too much sugar or sodium, and it goes back on the store shelf. Everyone she cooks for will eat the same thing she does, no exceptions. And are you really gonna argue with her about it?
Sayaka got tired of waiting for her dad to get home from the office with some cheap sushi pack he picked up on the way. So she taught herself how to make simple tasty meals that wouldn't require her to operate the stove and risk starting an apartment fire. She took the same Home Ec courses Makoto did in middle school and not surprisingly made better grades in them. Now Sayaka enjoys preparing low-calorie snacks for her bandmates when they have spare time. It helps her focus on something besides the dance step she flubbed in rehearsal or the way the label's new PR guy keeps leering at her.
One of Toko's early novels, "Fresh Baked Love", centers on a shy girl who wins the heart and appetite of her crush by becoming an award-winning chef. It's based on a longstanding fantasy of hers. As is, the only thing she makes consistently well are chocolates. Every year Toko prepares a huge bagful for her dream boy of the moment… and every year it ends up in the trash, unopened. BTW, her chocolatiering expertise does not carry over to her Genocide Jack alter… and if that switch has flipped, the question of who's preparing dessert is the least of your problems.
Yasuhiro's mother always treasured and complimented her son's attempts at cooking, even if they were barely edible. Consequently, Hiro labors under the delusion that he's a whiz in the kitchen. But he fails to notice how everything he makes always comes out burnt, underdone, dried out, soaked in too much sauce, bitter, crumbly, or some combination of the above. You can let him help with meal prep, but don't leave him unsupervised, always have backup ingredients ready in case he messes something up… and make sure he's wearing a hairnet, kerchief, or something similar.
Hajime is mostly indifferent about food, cooking it or eating it--unless you're talking about mochi. Then he gets weirdly finicky and sensitive about the virtues of kusamochi (his favorite) over sakuramochi (which he can't stand). In line with his non-Ultimate status, he's an average cook, capable of boiling rice, making sandwiches, and working the okonomiyaki stand at the school festival so long as he has help. His Izuru alter, being the Ultimate Everything, has the potential to be a master chef… but he has other priorities.
When you grow up foraging, scavenging, or even fighting for every meal, you learn how to improvise. Put Akane in a kitchen and she'll start looking through cabinets and containers, rifling through the fridge like a raccoon in a trashcan, quickly coming up with a combination of this, that, and the other thing that will feed her and everybody else in the house. Ideally, she'll find meat and plenty of it. If there isn't any, she'll find it, somehow, even if she has to kill it herself. Nothing Akane makes is remotely gourmet, but no one is going to starve on her watch.
Whatever can be said of the "Ultimate Imposter", to say they enjoy fast food is an understatement. The Imposter is practically a scholar on the merits of this chain's cheeseburgers versus another, the harmony between pizza toppings and sauces… they could pretty much write a dissertation on KFC in Japan compared to the US. But the idea of preparing their own meals is a foreign concept. Privately, they're too intimidated to try. So much effort and preparation--if they tried to replicate the foods they supposedly know so much about and fail, it would be just too embarrassing.
The eating of food, and the preparation of it for eating, is a fundamentally human concern. Hence, engaging AI Chiaki in conversation about cooking and food might inadvertently expose her status. She's learned enough from all the cooking simulation games she's played… but she doesn't have a favorite food or a least favorite. She doesn't know where milk and eggs come from, and she doesn't realize that food can spoil or not taste good. Critically, asking her to recall memories associates with certain foods generates verbatim repeated responses.
The real-life Chiaki is about as adept at cooking as her AI counterpart. She gets so engrossed in gaming that she'll forget to eat, then wonder why her stomach hurts. Then she'll take a break to grab an energy drink and a nut-and-cheese protein pack from the corner store. If she's at home, she'll raid the kitchen for cup ramen or condensed soup she'll eat straight out of the can. Preparing anything from scratch doesn't appeal to her at all. The few times she's tried have proven that it isn't as easy IRL as Cooking Mama makes it look.
Bodyguards at the Kuzuryu compound have learned not to comment on any late-night bumps and clatters coming from the kitchen. The housekeeper turns a blind eye to the occasional empty containers of sugar, flour, baking powder, and eggs that weren't in the trash when she clocked out the previous night. Everyone knows about the young master's sweet tooth, and everyone knows Fuyuhiko is above asking anyone to make the treats he secretly craves and devours in secret. Rivals aren't going to stop calling him "baby gangsta" if they see him nomming on a fried dough cookie.
Cease your labors, mortals, and behold the handiwork of the Dark Devas of Destruction! Tanaka the Forbidden One bids you gain strength and vigor from this ambrosia from the gods, his special STIR-FRIED GINGER TOFU WITH DAIKON RADISH AND SPRING ONIONS! Seriously, watching Gundham in the kitchen is like watching a cross between "Ratatouille" and "Fist of the North Star". Gundham gives the orders and the hamsters do the rest. Be forewarned that eating his mother's terrible cooking has imbued him with low standards for taste. Also, watch out for the odd bit of hamster fur in your salad.
As an arbiter and ambassador of Japanese culture, Hiyoko's family has trained her to whip up delicious full-course meals on demand. She will enthusiastically debate the merits of certain types of miso and curry over others, seasonal variations on sukiyaki, etc., all while explaining how even the worst of Japanese cooking shames the fatty, greasy slop that passes for Western "cuisine". Just… don't actually ask her to cook. That is beneath her. Hiyoko will, however, instruct you how to prepare dishes according to Saionji family standards… while telling you in excruciating detail how you're doing it all wrong.
Her voice is loud, her fashion is loud, and her music is loud… so it makes sense that Ibuki likes her food loud, too. Her standard cooking technique involves flavor-blasting everything to a degree Guy Fieri would find excessive. Sauces! Gravies! Dressing! Hot peppers! And mouth-burning, sinus-clearing amounts of spices, the more obscure the better. Each meal, regardless of what it is, comes with a side of heavily seasoned rice. It's all prepared while she blasts noise metal out of the speakers she's hooked up--which is fine, since you might not want to hear about how she "kicked up" those croquettes.
If you're fixing a propane grill--or modding it out so it can cook fifty burgers at once and alert you when each one has reached 74 degrees C in internal temperature--it makes sense that you know how the food the equipment prepares is supposed to taste. Kazuichi is indifferent about food and drink; all he cares about is that the cola isn't diet and you brought enough grub to share. But he knows what things are supposed to taste like and how to use and fix the machines so they taste that way. If that counts as knowing how to cook… then Kazuichi knows how to cook.
Mahiru's mother was more often "on assignment" than not, and her shiftless father wouldn't even take his discarded takeout containers out to the trash. Ever the resourceful one, Mahiru pulled up some recipes on her laptop, printed them out, bought the necessary provisions, and after considerable trial and error taught herself how to prepare basic dinners for two. And ever the photographer, Mahiru takes photos of everything she makes before she digs in, even if it doesn't look as pretty and put-together as the online examples.
Mikan will be the first to tell you she's an awful cook and anything she makes is unfit for human consumption. On this point, she exaggerates. She only thinks she can't cook because she inevitably drops a plate, spills the salad dressing, slices herself with a knife, or falls over in a heap and somehow ends up with the kitchen trashcan spilling all over her. With some assistance, she can pull off a lunch or dinner that is fit to eat and, more importantly, is healthy, low-fat, properly portioned, and high in fiber to help you maintain regular bowel movements.
Dinner time. Nagito is cooking, so you steel yourself for the worst. You're pleasantly surprised to discover nothing amiss. The garden salad, the roast chicken, the side potatoes, and the chocolate cake are all wonderful. But your nagging suspicions compel you to peek inside the kitchen. Sure enough, various ingredients are splattering the counters and walls. There are scorch marks on the ceiling, which drips with fire extinguisher foam. A cabinet door is hanging by its hinges. The dishwasher is halfway open, revealing the exploded remains of the toaster.
Eager to prove herself worthy of being the Ultimate Gangster's little sister, Natsumi actively seeks new ways to protect her family against rivals and upstarts. One of these, oddly enough, involves playing the part of hostess. She's read how Lucrezia Borgia and other poisoners took out their enemies undetected, and lately she's been… experimenting. Recently, a former "business partner" of her father's spent two weeks in intensive care with stomach inflammation. No one except Fuyu has made the connection to the purin custard Natsumi prepared for dessert when he came by for supper.
You get out of the human body what you put into it. Different bodies require different meals to help them reach their potential as athletes. One of Nekomaru's hidden talents is finding out what food they need. Count on him to help you bulk up, slim down, or otherwise condition yourself for your chosen sport. The one common element to all Nekomaru's diet plans is an efficient digestive system, not weighed down with excess material in the gut. With him as your coach, you'll eat like an champion, perform like a champion… and shit like a champion!
Ryota can draw food that looks so mouth-watering you'll want to eat it right off the screen. But actually making it? The most difficult part will be pulling him away from his computer set-up and out of his room. Once you get him in the kitchen, he can follow instructions, but he may rush things and cut corners so he can get this distraction out of his way, with disastrous results. Furthermore, he'll whine the entire time that he doesn't have time for this and he can't do anything that injures his hands and whipping this batter by hand is exhausting. Maybe you should just send the boy back to his studio.
Sworn to protect the Kazuryu bloodline, Peko is prepared for any contingency. She's trained to recognize when food has been tampered with and has occasionally functioned as a taste-tester. She can also prepare simple meals from edible berries and plants in case she and her charges are ever trapped in the wilderness. Peko would like to learn more advanced cooking techniques--like how to make those cookies the young master likes. But she's never pursued that interest. Her blade is meant for protecting the family, not chopping vegetables.
The Kingdom of Novaselic requires its royals and heirs to be reasonably self-sufficient, so Sonia's picked up a few "commoner" skills like meal prep. But she's far better at planning dinners than preparing them. And by "dinner", Sonia means grand banquets full of distinguished guests. To her, fifty people counts as an intimate gathering. Bring the appetizers out at five, the main at six, dessert and coffee come out right after the applause stops from the ambassador's speech… oh, and the Grand Duchess is allergic to fennel, so can we find an alternative to that soup that still complements the veal?
Teruteru's reputation in this arena precedes him, does it not? Give the guy enough time and he can put together a seven-course meal in the Sahara Desert. But Teruteru keeps meals for family friends simple yet succulent, from the miso soup to the castella served for dessert. Every dish is one he learned at his mother's knee and as a backup chef at the family restaurant, yet flawlessly executed. Even his renditions of basics like fish ball soup explode with a kaleidoscope of flavor. Don't forget to pre-order his new cookbook "Meals My Mama Taught Me" wherever books are sold!
Komaru does okay in her Home Ec classes, but within the humble kitchen of the Naegi household, she becomes a culinary nightmare. Her sense of taste is quite frankly not normal (favorite foods include sparrow’s nest, tuna eyeballs, and kangaroo meat) and this completely warps the way she cooks. Her family, Makoto included, usually take one bite of whatever she's cooked, try not to retch, tell her it’s good but they’re not hungry right now, and discreetly sneak the abomination, container and all, into the outside garbage. Komaru’s never realized why her family goes through pots and pans so quickly.
None of the Warrior of Hope kids would be any help in the kitchen. Masaru primarily eats whatever he can shoplift. Nagisa’s parents provided their lab rat with such meager rations that he has no concept of what makes a decent meal. Kotoko had servants preparing her meals, and her mother was interested in teaching her… other skills besides the domestic. Monaca will feign helplessness to get out of kitchen duty—you don’t expect a little girl in a wheelchair to fend for herself, do you? Jataro might be able to help, if you can convince him cooking can be a form of art and if you can get him to focus.
Outside of its potential role in poisoning cases, Shuichi gives little thought to food. His parents were either too busy working or traveling to spend time with him (cooking or otherwise), and his aunt took care of dinner when he moved in with her and his uncle. Home Ec is his least favorite subject in school, and at home he’d sooner do laundry than help in the kitchen. He’ll grudgingly fix simple snacks to keep his belly from rumbling, or he’ll pick up something from the corner store. Maybe the right person could show him how fun cooking can be, and how it can distract him and help him relax.
One of Kaede’s worst fears is something happening to her hands that stops her from playing the piano. This includes cutting or burning her fingers while cooking. Hence, she avoids excessive kitchenwork. She can whip up a few sandwiches or appetizers, using pre-sliced meats and cheeses. Clean oven mitts and potholders are a must, and she avoids using any cutlery sharper than a butter knife. Perhaps the only reason to have her in the kitchen at all is meal-planning. She’s been hosted at many high-class dinners by her wealthy patrons, and she knows what makes a successful soiree.
The natives on the island where Angie lives happily cook for her—providing needed sustenance to the oracle of Atua is a high honor. But sometimes Angie receives messages from Atua calling on her to return the favor, so she prepares huge meals for the people attending her festivals. If you love Polynesian cooking and plenty of it, Angie’s your girl. She can prepare slow-cooked pork cooked in a dug-out oven, poke and ceviche made with wild-caught fish, and grilled chicken in any number of sweet and savory sauces, all with generous sides of coconut rice and her favorite avocados.
In mountains, Gonta learn how to hunt food and make fire to cook food. But Gonta no good in kitchen. Gonta really no good in fancy kitchen back home. Break everything. Burn and cut hands. Gonta like to cook outdoors around fire pit, where smoke go up in air and not make beeping sound. Plenty of room to move around and not knock things over. Gonta good at barbecue! Gonta know how to cook any kind of meat tender and safe enough to eat while not burnt. Bug friends help Gonta find fresh fruit and vegetables to go with meat. You not go hungry in woods when Gonta with you!
Himiko may specialize in grand spectacles, but no mage is worth her wand without knowing a few magic potions. There’s one she keeps handy for curing minor illnesses. It requires a whole chicken, roasted and deboned. Then she forms a dough and cuts it into noodles. For the base she'll need butter, celery, carrots, garlic, assorted spices, and the best chicken stock available. Himiko carefully mixes the concoction, bringing it to a boil before letting it cool. Those uninitiated to her magic circle can’t speak for its curative powers, but they agree it’s the best homemade chicken soup they’ve ever had.
Between his regressive gender attitudes and his inherent machismo, Kaito disregards cooking as girly and undignified. He'll only fix his own meals if there isn’t a female around to do it for him. His grandmother did all the cooking for him, and the only thing he learned from her was not to touch a hot stove. With some reverse psychology—telling Kaito he can’t do something always flips a switch—he might try his hand at “manly” culinary arts like grilling. Don’t try talking him into anything more, or you’ll be subjected to a lengthy diatribe on the superiority of freeze-dried food.
Cooking is a part of the human experience that Kiibo was designed to replicate. He can follow the instructions in a recipe to produce decent meals, but he might not notice if the eggs have gone bad or a malfunctioning broiler has undercooked the fish. His "experiments" to create new dishes humans will enjoy resemble current AI attempts to replicate art and writing. Recent creations include pudding-filled rice balls, beer-battered steak in a strawberry-marmalade reduction, an "eggplant cake" with a peanut-butter glaze, and something called a "chickenloaf" served with bechamel sauce.
She doesn’t make a big deal about it, but Kirumi’s culinary abilities almost match Teruteru's. What she lacks in delicacy and nuance, she makes up for in resourcefulness. Her larder is always stocked with ample supplies of vegetables, pasta, cheese, eggs, beans, and a variety of meats and seafood. This way, Kirumi can fix any number of hearty, energy-packed meals and snacks for important people making important decisions, often late at night. For more formal functions, she is equally capable of finding a suitable caterer or commanding an entire kitchen staff to prepare state dinners.
Any city where D.I.C.E. sets up shop, all the best grocery stores and fine-dining establishments are burglarized within the week. They lose their best cuts of meat, their priciest liquor… and every last bottle of soda. Kokichi's army of merry pranksters marches on its stomach. If he's somehow dragooned into feeding people outside his organization, they can expect "fun" additions and improvizations on whatever's being served. Sorry, Kokichi, but no one else found the creamed spinach-filled-bonbons as funny as you did. Especially considering the spinach was cooked in Carolina Reaper hot sauce.
Korekiyo's world travels have exposed him to the culinary delights of a hundred or more cultures. But as his beanpole physique suggests, food is not a priority for him. He eats whatever's available--since sometimes he's had to eat grubs and insects just to survive or sample utterly vile local delicacies, like live octopus in Korea or surströmming that one time in Sweden. There is this chocolate mille crepe cake he makes, his beloved sister's favorite. Kiyo will occasionally prepare one, but only for very special girls, the kind his sister would have liked…
You need help preparing dinner, and Maki's the only one available. She sighs bitterly, but despite her initial reluctance she immediately sets to work. By the time she's done, she's taken over, preparing omurice for the main with sides of potato salad and yakitori and a giant bowl of zosui. She seals the deal with coconut thumbprint cookies with red bean jam. She confides in you that she used to cook like this all the time for other kids at the orphanage… and honestly, she's just happy to prepare dishes she doesn't have to spike with arsenic or cyanide.
The brilliant inventor Miu Irumi has better things to do than fuck around in the kitchen preparing num-nums for numb-nuts. She has been known to prepare special baked goods for boys she likes--pie with her her hair in it, cookies containing her fingernails, chocolate made with her blood, etc. So maybe it's better for all concerned that she stays in her workshop. She's memorized the numbers of every takeout place in the neighborhood that delivers, so all she has to do is answer the door, wolf down lunch while watching some kiddie show, and then go back to her current project.
Rantaro is basically a teenage Anthony Bourdain, having been a hundred or more places across the globe and picking up at least one recipe or cooking style everywhere he's been. Linguine carbonara from Italy, churrasco from Brazil, pad thai from Thailand, Nashville hot chicken from America… would you care for some jollof rice, and if so do you prefer it Nigerian or Ghanaian style? Rantaro has sworn to prepare all these dishes for his gaggle of sisters once he finally tracks them down--he's come a long way since the days of fixing them riceballs and pancakes.
Ryoma has a few favorite recipes he'll share if asked. They're surprisingly good for someone whose palate has been exposed to a steady diet of prison food. But… you might notice a theme. Turkey meatballs? Salmon patties? Sardine omelettes? And then there's his special tuna and rice. Yep, you're eating homemade cat food, the same recipes Ryoma lovingly prepared for his beloved Russian Blue a lifetime ago. Storebought industrial kibble just wouldn't do. Stop complaining--you've had a full serving of protein, fiber, and vitamin D. At least he didn't sneak a vitamin pill into it.
Tenko's master tried teaching her how to cook, thinking it would encourage focus, discipline, patience, etc. He failed miserably, but some of the cooking lessons stuck. She's particularly good at the art of nabemono--preparing hot pot dishes. She takes care in selecting the appropriate pot, seasoning the stock just right, and picking out only the choicest cuts of meat and vegetables… especially tripe, her favorite of all. If you identify as male, make sure to thank her appropriately after the meal to keep her from knife-handing you in the face.
Anyone can tell you that the fabric and accessories required for serious cosplay cost serious cash. Tsumugi paid those costs and her dues by bartending at various clubs and bars, using a skillful application of makeup to convince employers she was an adult. She's learned how to fix any number of cocktails on demand and she knows a few tricks of the trade, like substituting the cheap stuff for top-shelf liquor once patrons have their buzz on. She can also fix a fair number of pub snacks, especially the salty stuff that makes people thirsty.

Hiiiii. Gun and goo planning/going on a trip together HC WHEN [politely asking]
Yeeehhhh! Got another Ask!
Please don’t be shy about sending more requests!
Gun and Goo planning a trip together head cannon here we go!
Also sorry for answering late. Got caught up by first week of assignments lol
Goo planning the trip together with Gun:
Never let him plan the trip
He will just make the whole trip more inconvenient even if it is work-related
Ho going for a 50-kilometer trip that takes only take 3 hours? He will make 5 hour trip.
He doesn’t even plan it at all
Booking hotel? Nah he gonna do it at the last minute of the booking hotel when it's about nighttime
What about lunch and dinner? That lil shit wouldn’t book any reservation in any 5 stars to a normal restaurant so Gun and he ends up eating drive-through of McDonald’s somehow also packed.
All Gun thinks ‘The calories in this and the fats are unhealthy’ as he looks at his McCrispy Classic Burger Set order while Goo just eating his favorite hamburger 1955 Burger Meal.
The night is rising and Sun is falling, Goo forgot to book the hotel again but it looks like he is doing it intentionally doing it.
So Goo and Gun end up booking into a haunted-looking hotel
The hotel room is “clean” with no messes, and a clean blanket, the bathroom is functional, and service of the counter is an old man that looks like a corpse. Gun would just stare at him and pray that the trip would just end or just end Goo as he can’t bear this mess up the trip that Goo’s unplanned trip.
Night came Gun is got himself relaxed as he took a surprisingly working heater hot shower while Goo already in pajamas and cover himself with the blanket and his eye mask in a yearning sleeping position
Gun lay down on his bed and closed the light that is beside his bed.
Kakakkaakakakakakaaka
Goo stirs as he can hear the uncomfortable whisper, he also can feel someone groping him.
Goo flip around until he had enough.
He sat up and remove his sleeping mask and look around.
Nothing, He sees Gun in a deep sleep of a stargazing position.
So Goo lay back down and tried to go back to sleep.
As he tries to go back to sleep, he can feel a sharp nail trailing his back
He took a small peek as he want to see whom the heck is groping him
And he sees the cursed like juju*su ka*sen that he has been reading
WTF that fucking too cool!
Goo thought he want to raise his body and touch the curse but was unable to as it look like he is in sleep paralyzed state
The next day Gun and Goo now booking out, seeing in Goo in that state like he have been drained by a succubus or didn’t sleep at all, Gun just shoved Goo in the passenger seat thinking that Goo would just drive the car out of the road barrier as they would travel to the mountain road.
“Gun what did yah think about that hotel? Cool right?” Goo states his face looking in a blissed/drugged-like state.
“Did you even sleep at all dumbass?” vein pop on Gun's face as he hates driving on the mountain road
“Nah, I didn’t sleep at all LOL. I think I just experience the peak of the juju*su ka*sen see curse! Lemme put a review on that hotel!” Goo laughs and searches up the hotel name online
….Silence ensures “Gun what was the hotel name again?”
“Hotel De luna, if I am not mistaken” Gun answers him while driving a full speed on the highway
“Hotel de luna” Goo types on the search engine while drinking his milk tea bottle that he just bought from the store
Goo spit his drink which resulted in Gun pressing the break as he was splattered by Goo's spat-out drinks.
Gun couldn’t help but whacked Goo’s head and demand the reason why he spits the drinks
“Gun, the hotel…. it says here that it burned down for almost a decade.” Goo shows his phone to the gun and it says on the website that the Hotel de luna was once a popular hotel but it have been burned down by someone and 5 staff members are being trapped inside the hotel during that time
The atmosphere turned cold
Gun being a Shinto religion just said “let's just agree not to mention this trip again”
After all, going in and being able to get out of the spirit world is considerably lucky
Both of them just agree to never mention this spirit world trip again
Gun planning the trip together with Goo:
Being a perfectionist, he is and he books a trip to Japan with Goo since he has been bugging Gun for a long time He wants to Japan while Gun just wants to visit his hometown to see how the yakuza doing.
He doesn’t want to be bombarded by Goo when he gets back to Korea
Gun made a booking for a 5-star hotel and restaurant
Being an adrenaline maniac and Fighting Junkie, it’s no surprise to Goo that they end up being in a gym and a swimming pool may be a beach that tolerates tattoos.
It's already on the third day in Japan, they have traveled around they visit popular onsens, pubs, host clubs, restaurants, and Akihabara which is the first day they visit since Goo bugged Gun about it.
Goo thinks it got so boring as he doing a small dumbbell until he saw one of the milfest women he ever sees in his life other than at those cosplay conventions or gym she is like Minamoto Raikou of FGO in person. Like the degenerate he is, he tries to use his broken Japanese to flirt with her. (he needs to learn basic Japanese as Gun doesn’t want to bring him on the trip unless he learns basics LOL)
Meanwhile, Gun doing heavy weight lifting he sees Goo approaching the lady, He can’t help but think that woman looks familiar.
Then it clicked to him that woman is one of the Yamazaki allies’ wife and his probably mother in law
When Gun is about to drop the Weight lift. Goo approached with a smiling face.
“Guess who got a lady's number~” Goo grinned widely
Gun just looks at him unimpressed as it looks like the planned trip will be interrupted.
He notices her wave at him with her mouthing
“Visit the tournament Yuzuru-kun~ If not your small vacation trip will be interrupted~”
Gun couldn’t help but nod at the woman
“Gun, she even gave me two a cruise ship ticket! Let’s ditch the plan and go there!”
Gun can’t help but feel the headache coming to him, so he just agrees to Goo's idea as he knows he is going complain to him on the way to the hotel after they are finished reps and showering.
That night they visit the docking area of the cruise ship
There are a lot of bodyguards, businessmen, and mercenaries let’s not forget yakuza.
“Woooooo, what is this place Gun! Also, look at those yakuza that like the” Goo goes sparkling.
“Shut it, Goo” Gun snapped at him as he is getting irritated from the chatter of Goo
Both Gun and Goo enter the cruise ship and was directed by their host on the way to the entertainment arena
“Ladies and Gen-“
“Gun what the heck is this place” Goo look around the arena
Gun put his cigarette and lit it.
“ffuu, Goo that lady you been flirting with is an ane-san to one of the Yamazaki allies” Gun puffs out the smokes
Goo looks at him in shock and say “damn, is this place like the Keng*n Ash*ra manga??”
“You can say, enjoy it while we here.” Gun answers him while raising his hand to call the waitress to serve them limited alcohol and snacks
“Yamazaki-sama~” a familiar face from the gym approach the two
“Kiryu-sama, Its been long time.” Gun stood up and bow 45 degrees to show respect to the older woman
“it been so long since you have visited the arena Yamzaki-sama, hopefully, you can enjoy this evening battle~ And when will you tie the knot with one of your candidates.” The Kiryu smiles teasingly at Gun.
“Kiryu-sama, You should know not to butt in about the candidates as there are none that can appease me.” Gun puffs out another smoke
“Gun, you know her? And what this about candidate.” Goo whisper to him
“Let me give a short introduction to this lady. This is Miss Kiryu she is one of the yamazaki ally’s wives she manages this underground arena.” Gun gave a short explanation to Goo not looking at him as he is busy pouring his bottle of sake and focusing announcer's introduction to the fighters
Kiryu smiled and approaches Goo full of tea to spill to him “Let me sit beside you and explain the whole history of this place and about Gun’s candidates hehe.” Gun doesn’t hear the last part as he is absorbed by the tournament battle going on.
Two days later, Goo and Gun enjoy the luxury of alcohol, gambling, and entertainment in a battle arena. There is even an artificial mixed onsen which Goo enjoys and Gun is just impressed by some changes of the cruise that he visited a few years ago.
They are also surrounded by soap girls during that time, you can say Goo go a shocked mood as he just discovers there is this type of service hidden in Japan.
The morning of dawn all the elites member of society have departed from them as they don’t want to be seen by reporters.
Gun and Goo also departed from the cruise and goes back to their hotel to grab their suitcase to travel back to Korea.
Both of them sit in the first-class seat, Minding their own business.
Goo is watching some anime on his TV screen and Gun reading a newspaper of Japan while drinking his coffee
“So I heard that you have 5 fiancées Gun.” Goo said out of blue
“Goo if you value your life as this plane is still in the air. Don’t say any word of it” Gun said in a monotone as his forehead vine pops
“But seriously damn those 5 fiancees are so damn hot yah saying you didn’t bang them at all??” Goo smiles widely.
A verbal fight ensures the plain
Both of them have a time-out when the flight attendant smiles like Charles Choi that will give them hell if they don’t break it.
You can just say that Gun and Goo just got blacklisted from that airline. LOL
No matter what Gun plans for his trip with Goo it will go in the opposite direction or go off the rail to a disaster event.

THE FASTEST WAY TO LEARN JAPANESE
1.Golden Study Hours (note that these are for reference, and you should adjust them according to your own preferences):
4:30 AM - 6:00 AM: Vocabulary memorization. This is when your brain is most relaxed and suitable for memorizing subjects.
7:15 AM - 10:00 AM: Study topics that require more reasoning, such as reading and grammar.
2:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Listening practice. This is a focused time for logical thinking.
7:45 PM - 11:00 PM: Light study or reviewing what you've learned. Take a 30-minute break as needed. Application to Japanese:
- Kanji:
Analyze complex characters when you encounter them.
Use storytelling and imagination when you find kanji challenging.
Learn kanji quickly as it allows you to read Japanese books.
- Grammar:
Discover similar rules within grammar and focus on them.
Learn the meaning first, and then tackle conjugation and usage last.
Rapidly learn the meanings, and take your time with the rest.
- Vocabulary:
Know how to transcribe words; this reduces learning time by 70%.
Apply mnemonic techniques for difficult-to-remember words.
Review nine times a day, spread throughout morning, afternoon, and evening sessions.
Focus on skill-building through more exercises and tests. You can find many vocabulary exercises and tests online or in Mazii dictionary app.
- Listening:
A larger vocabulary supports better listening comprehension.
Listen diligently every day.
Save audio clips on your phone to listen while commuting.
2.Watch Japanese Films and Listen to Japanese Music:
Imitate the pronunciation of actors and singers.
Learn practical phrases that aren't in textbooks.
Make learning Japanese more enjoyable.
3.Avoid Sleepiness During Study:
Consume a moderate amount of coffee or tea to stay awake.
Stretch and walk around the room.
Listen to energetic, inspiring music to stimulate your brain.
Keep motivational quotes or goals visible on your study desk or computer.

6.Memorizing Numbers and Events:
Associate numbers or events with special dates (e.g., your crush's birthday).
Regular practice, with multiple repetitions, helps you remember for a long time.
7.Alarm Clock:
Place your alarm clock away from your bed to avoid hitting the snooze button.
Set your alarm volume to the highest level.
Get up, brush your teeth, wash your face, do some light exercises to wake up, and then start studying.
8.Organized Study Space:
Focus on one subject at a time; avoid studying multiple subjects at once to reduce stress.
Ensure your study environment is comfortable and suits your preferences.
Avoid pulling all-nighters; they harm your health, decrease efficiency, and impair memory.
9.Creating Motivation:
Consider the worst-case scenario if you're lazy: ridicule from friends, disappointment from parents, embarrassment…
Ask yourself: which feels worse, the effort or the regret?
Reward yourself for achieving your goals.
Remember to adjust these recommendations to your own preferences and needs. Learning a new language is a journey, and consistency and personalization are key. 🇯🇵📚🗾

Last day of August! Just passed another heatwave, so I watered, pruned, and fertilized. I removed the Black Cherry tomato, may it rest in peace, because it looked spent. Your fruit made so many bowls of pasta - store bought does not hold a candle to your deliciousness.
For seeds, the onions are leggy but alright (I added sifted compost and half strength fertilizer), the lettuce has germinated, and the zinnias look amazing. I think the compost mix really held moisture like I wanted. And since I struggle with starting indoors, I sowed some more onion seeds in an outdoor container. It’s shallots, then Texas early, then red onion (I think)
This rest of this post under the cut will be a season review and planning for fall.
Summer season review: Overall, I did experience the same garden fatigue from the heat and watering, even though this summer was way more mild than last year. The ollas work great so far, so maybe that will help next year. I loved every bowl of homegrown cherry tomato pasta we made, and we even got some chilies and bell peppers. Great improvements over last year!
While it will stay hot for another month or two, I’m excited to try new things during fall. Apparently, California’s expecting lower than average temps and more rain; the whole year’s been like that.
Considerations for fall:
How densely do I plant to soak up extra water while allowing airflow/avoiding disease?
Will be there be enough sunlight to grow everything?
What if we get a freeze?
What if there are storms?
Upcoming projects/plans:
Cover crop beds 1 and 3
Plant beds 2 and 4 with onions, carrots, garlic, lettuce, broccoli, etc
Start a container garden on the pavement with berries, strawberry tower, tea plant, dragonfruit trellis, flowers, etc.
Install ollas and arch trellises between the beds
Replace daybed with little table and chairs to make a nice seating area, no rat nests!
Maybe set up an outdoor seed starting station? The bench is getting pretty full
Add dwarf tomato to the kitchen windowsill
At my parent’s house: harvest persimmons, sow wildflower seeds, plant trailing nasturtium
As you can see, I really want to do a lot this season. Invest some money and level up my gardening! I’d love for my garden to look more like the ones I see online, and it will take a few more years of experience to get there. If I challenge myself, I can get there.

There is just one week left before the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop close.
With Nintendo up to it's bad old tricks of shutting down its online shop services. Riven has been hard at work making a note of the best games to get on the service. In the case of the Wii U many of the games have been ported to Nintendo Switch with extra content or are available on other formats. There are still a few exclusive games worth picking up along with their download content. Titles like Affordable Space Adventures, Pokémon Rumble U, Chasing Aurora & Dr. Luigi.
However the more concerning issue is the 3DS and the amount of games that will be removed from the service and along with their respective download content. The first problem is this is poorly documented across the net, most DLC downloads aren't listed in the eShop instead can only be accessed in-game while other games have special download content that is free to all users.
Some download links look like they don't connect to the Nintendo server so may remain up for some time after the store closes, but we can't be 100% sure on this. Word of warning some games like, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past require you beat the game to access the DLC...
So Riven spent three days last years trying to draw a list of every Japan, European and North American game that features download content for the 3DS. Checking various online sources and our own research to create the most complete list on the internet we can find and you can access it here via Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XEDYGOzT1ZPQQ60NCaCaPkqV5QQwULGy/view?usp=sharing
It's not a perfect list so if there are any games we are missing let us know! Contact us via twitter, e.mail or leave a comment and Riven will add missing games asap. From our own research series like Level 5's Inazuma Eleven & Yo-Kai Watch are very poorly documented and all of them area to have some form of free download. Most of the Yo-Kai Watch games also have DLC that is only available to people who buy the game digitally.
We will have a video on the subject in the next two days. Do be aware that you will need to upgrade your 3DS and Wii U SD memory cards if you plan on downloading a lot of games. Both systems also have a hard limit of 300 system icons, the Switch has one of a 1000. At which point you will have to delete a download game to download another. That's not mentioning the fact Nintendo will block credit card use on a Switch for a month if you make too many purchases. You must have linked you 3DS and Wii U account to a modern Switch / Nintendo website account to still add funds.
Shout out to FromTheVoid Games: https://www.youtube.com/@FromTheVoidGames (Who has done some great videos on the subject.)

since i’ve gotten a few inbox asks about this:
here’s one major, major writing tip. i’m going to sound like a total parent by saying this (forgive me) but reading is a key way to improve your writing. my writing improved significantly after i began reading.
and i understand if reading may not be your favorite thing, it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. however, i bet (for most people) that you haven’t found the genre of books that interests you. my advice is to go to a book store near you and actually take the time to stroll around and find a book that calls to you. read the blurbs, look at reviews online, and even read a few pages. it’s totally ok if it takes a while to find the right book or genre for you. i promise it’s worth it. especially if you want to improve your writing skill / techniques!

Book Blurb: You’ve Got Mail gets a fresh YA twist in this irresistible rom-com that spotlights the power of activism and community organizing in the face of gentrification, perfect for fans of Tweet Cute and Yes No Maybe So.
Clementine Chan believes in the power of the written word. Under the pseudonym Hibiscus, she runs a popular blog reviewing tea shops and discussing larger issues within her Chinatown community. She has a loyal, kind following, save for this one sour grape named BobaBoy888.
Danny Mok is allergic to change, and the gentrification seeping into Chinatown breaks his heart. He channels his frustration into his internet alter ego, BobaBoy888, bickering with local blogger Hibiscus over all things Chinatown and tea.
When a major corporation reveals plans that threaten to shut down the Mok’s beloved tea shop, Clementine and Danny find themselves working together in real life to save this community they both love. But as they fall hard for this cause—and each other—they have no clue that their online personas have been fighting for years. When the truth comes to light, can Danny and Clementine still find their happily-ever-after?
Review:
Two rivals find themselves coming together to help save the small businesses in Chinatown while also falling for each other... but when the truth comes out about how they actually know each other.. will their blossoming relationship survive and can they save their community before it’s gentrified? Clementine Chan runs a blog under the name Hibiscus, she reviews tea shops and larger issues within her Chinatown community... but there is one person who has it out for her and that is BobaBoy888. Clementine doesn’t know who he really is but all she knows is that he is consistently leaving sour comments on her blog posts. Danny Mok hates change and when the gentrification starts happening in Chinatown and when his own family’s tea shop might be impacted he has begun to take out his frustration through his internet alter ego, BobaBoy888, to argue with the local blogger Hibiscus. Danny thinks that Hibiscus doesn’t know what she’s talking about and goes against everything that he stands for meanwhile Clementine thinks that BobaBoy888 is just grumpy to be grumpy. What neither of them know is that they both go to the same school and are in classes together. When a major corporation reveals plans to shut down many stores in Chinatown to build a mall and other new stores, Clementine and Danny find themselves joining forces to save all the small businesses and people in their community that they adore. While working together they also begin to fall for one another.... but they still don’t know who the other truly is and when the secret is revealed, can they make their relationship work despite their differences or was it doomed from the start? This was such a cute read and it definitely had me craving some tea and basil pop corn chicken! Danny and Clementine might both have different views but they both want what’s best for their community and despite their differences, they were so cute. I had a blast reading this and would definitely recommend it!
*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Quill Tree Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Tea's Game Reviews #001
NBA 2k23 (PC)
Alright so NBA 2k23 2nd impressions,
To preface, I'm not much into sports. I can enjoy basketball if I decide to watch, but I don't go out of my way to watch or play the games. This was on sale for like $10 on Steam.
Hopping in there's a bit of a learning curve, especially on PC, but once you get the hang of the mechanics it's pretty cool. General movement is clunky. Story mode seems entertaining, although I've yet to actually play it aside from the intro. Premise is you get drafted to the team of your choice and people aren't happy you were picked over another popular college player.
Lots of cool little features like a shoe creator, clothing stores in the plaza (lobby), gym training mechanics, headphones option to listen to the impressive, multiple in game music playlists while completing quests/waiting for matches, tattoos, a barber, etc. Steam reviews complain of cheaters online, but that's to be expected with multi-player games these days.
A major selling point is the eclectic mix of big and small artists like J Cole, Megan Thee Stallion, Polo G, Lil Baby, Drake, house music, indie tunes and others creating a familiar atmosphere that sets the tone and keeps the game interesting.
Character customization is decent. Face scanning app won't even open, so character creation is necessary. Clothing, tattoos, gear, etc are pretty expensive, which opens the door for microtransactions. Not sure how easy it is to earn in game currency as I've not played much yet, but it's possible to earn. Character stat customization is extensive combined with the ability to create your dream team.
Only match I played was the tutorial against an NPC for a quest. Tried playing an online match but it took too long to start, so I left to play Mortal Kombat 11. Will possibly do a 3rd impressions post but maybe not idk. Hope you enjoyed :)

The Essential Guide to Buying Your First Tea Set

The Essential Guide to Buying Your First Tea Set
How many times have you found yourself wanting to enjoy a nice cup of tea while at home, but didn’t have the proper accessories? It happens to me all the time! Although I’ve got plenty of mugs and teapots, I’ve always lacked an actual tea set. Well, not anymore! With this handy guide, you can learn everything you need to know about choosing your first tea set so that your next afternoon or evening can be spent enjoying this classic hot beverage.
What is a Tea Set?
A tea set is a collection of teacups, teapots, and other accessories used to prepare and serve tea. They are usually not meant for anything else than drinking tea, but there are exceptions. The most common types of tea sets are glass tea sets for glass teapots, ceramic tea sets for porcelain or bone china teapots, and stainless steel tea sets for stainless steel teapots. There’s no real best type.
A tea set can vary in size, but it’s typically comprised of teacups, saucers, and a teapot. It’s perfect for an afternoon cup of tea when you want to share with family or friends. But not all tea sets are made equal. So how do you choose which one is right for you? Here’s everything you need to know when shopping for your first tea set.
What Are Some Popular Brands?
To get started, you’ll want to figure out how many pieces you need. While most tea sets include four teacups and saucers, some sets only come with three. This might not seem like a big deal, but when hosting larger groups of people you’ll find yourself in need of more dishes. Some popular brands are Sango and Noritake, but it just depends on your taste. There are lots of different styles out there that can match almost any aesthetic!

What Are Some Popular Types of Tea Set?
Whether you’re a connoisseur or a newbie, there are many different types of tea. At their core, though, all teas share some common traits: They’re made from either Camellia sinensis or a variety of other plants and they need hot water to steep. Beyond that, all bets are off—teas range from black and green varieties to white and oolong teas, with an entire spectrum in between.
The first step is simply figuring out what kind of tea you like—herbal or regular, black or green, caffeinated or decaf. Once you know that, it’s easy to look for a set that will suit your taste and needs. If you prefer herbal teas and live alone, a smaller individual size may work best.

How Much Should I Spend?
You can find great deals on teacup sets at your local yard sales, estate sales, and thrift stores. But if you’re not in a rush to buy something, shopping online is usually cheaper. It’s much easier to find products through search engines than through physical retail shops. Start searching for a teacup set today!
There are plenty of cheap teacups out there, but if you’re planning on making a serious commitment to tea drinking, it’s worth investing in something that will last. A basic teacup set shouldn’t cost more than $20—though you can pay upwards of $100 for higher-quality china, which is ideal if you plan on using your cups every day.
Where Can I Buy One?
If you’re looking for a teacup set, you can buy it online on Amazon. There are tons of sellers, but be sure to check reviews before ordering. It’s also important that your tea set is made of porcelain or bone china and the Japanese Tea Set is also pretty suitable for you—other materials can damage your teeth when drinking a hot liquid.
As a trusted online seller of kitchen products and other necessary kinds of stuff, here at Petra Shop, we’re also selling Japanese Tea Set that you’re going to surely like. Most importantly we are offering Free Shipping all over the world. So grab the opportunity and make your first purchase with us and make a strong relationship with us!
