The KOSA regulations would need to be implemented even if the companies offer their services only outside of the country? 🤔 And if they are established on another country and offer its services to usa, they need to implement the regulations right?

Like, even if they had to censor stuff for usa, they would be losing a lot of potential interactions because of the content theyre hiding, so if they had to censor everything in case of being established in usa (even if it is content being shown outside of the country), wouldnt it be better for them to just move the company to another country then. To continue having those extra interactions from "censored posts" shown to other countries.

Or even, if the cost of filtering the posts was too high, its possible some companies would choose to not offer their services to usa anymore. Idk how taxes to big companies work in those cases, but that would be a loss for them in the long term too right.

Like, isnt the whole bill a bad idea even commercially?

And couldnt it happen that companies publish a statement about getting out of the country in case the regulations were stablished?

I live in of the world where a 20 minute drive will take you out of the range of mobile reception and even radio waves. There's nothing out there except satellite. I should be able to listen to my music. Can't even play a stupid mobile game or whatever.

even if you don't care about the origins of the training data and think all information is fair game for use in machine learning systems... it still shouldn't be used. we're in a spot where our software is not meaningfully optimized because we keep making more powerful computers (which draw more power) cheaper. and machine learning, marketed as AI, with the lofty goal of emulating the brain of an exceptionally stupid human within the next decade, is about as inefficient as you can get. to train an LLM, you need to store enormous amounts of data, and enormous amounts of metadata (the neural network) to index it. then you need to parse all that data and generate an output. all that memory is used for every question asked, for every image or sound file generated. asking an LLM what 1 + 2 is uses the same order of magnitude of resources as asking it to summarize the riemann hypothesis, and it's not a small amount of resources. the more things get shifted from people or specialized programs to LLMs, the quicker we wear through hardware, the more demand for precious metals, the more power is drawn for each function call. if ai could make art indistinguishable from human art, in ways humans can't, in ways wholly original and not derivative, of their own free will, it would still be terrible and would still need to be stopped

my mind will change when computers are made of biodegradable materials, run on solar energy, the heat output is captured so it has a negligible or truly zero effect on climate change, and not made with slave labor. until then, we should use them with a little care.
