Tim still sat pensively at his desk minutes after the group call had closed, staring at the computer screen. The emotions in the Danny’s voice during their session… they hadn’t sounded fake.

Danny never sounded like that. He was an amazing GM and had clearly put a ton of work into fleshing out the setting of their campaign, but he couldn’t act. Well, unless it was in committing to a bit; his ability to keep jokes up for the long haul was honestly ridiculously (“The Box Ghost” is still a recurring encounter? Seriously?). It was when it came to portraying the deeper emotions that he would often falter. Which obviously wasn’t a real issue—god knows Tim’s tried to play with people far worse at RP—yet it established a trend.

And that trend was what made that last session stand out. Giving that speech as the vigilante… Danny sounded broken. He had never conveyed anywhere near that level of emotional weight before. It sounded like he was genuinely tearing a part of himself open for all to see.

It sounded real.

It made Tim cast his mind back through the rest of the campaign. Some of the idiosyncrasies of characters felt similar. Tiny details that felt so incredibly lifelike and were all but impossible to imagine someone coming up with on their own. And that wasn’t even getting into that vigilante character, whose experiences hit way too close to home in their accuracy.

Could Danny have been basing his campaign on actual experiences?

…Where had Danny said he was from? Tim was pretty sure it started with “Am-”, but he couldn’t just search two letters and hope to find results.

Wait, maybe the ghosts would be relevant! If his town was known for its hauntings, that would narrow down the possibilities a ton.

He typed out in the search bar, “Ghosts in am”

There! One of the autofill suggestions was “ghosts in Amity Park”. He recognized that name—it must be the place!

He excitedly hit enter.

0 results.

…What? But then how had it showed up in the suggestions?

Maybe it was just an error. He refreshed the page.

Still nothing.

His brow furrowed.

What if he deleted the ghost part and just searched the name “Amity Park” on its own?

This time, the search actually bore fruit, though the results were strangely old and few in number. Nevertheless, they held an important detail. Amity Park, they claimed, was the most haunted city in the United States.

Tim wasn’t sure if he believed that, but it would fit with what he had seen of Danny. A place known for its hauntings could easily have given Danny strong feelings about ghosts and ghost-hunters to then channel into their campaign.

But why had the search that mentioned ghosts failed? Surely a haunted city would make common use of that word, right? Or at least it should have appeared even just once on their webpages.

Yet the search had returned nothing.

And it was only when looking into ghosts. Any search about the city without some sort of ghostly words would work fine, but anything with them returned nothing—or at best, a few very vague or dismissive answers.

That couldn’t be natural. It smelt of a coverup of some sort.

But why?

What had happened in Amity Park?

Danny, becoming bored now that everything has calmed down, has decided to become an online DM for a virtual D&D group. Based on a normal town haunted by various ghosts and undead that haunt thus town while having access through a thin veil. So what if he's venting a bit? Sue him!

Tim, however, was becoming with the stories given by the DM. The lore, each characters, both human in ghosts, including a ghost vigilante and his three human friends, were all in too deep detail to be fake.

I finally wrote my prompt I sent to @stealingyourbones back in November! well part of it. This is just chapter 1, so this gets a summary @dpxdcshipweek

Summary: Danny has always had more internet access than a child really should have had. He tended to spend that time on game forums and different websites dedicated to space. Everyone once in a while he'd venture onto one about heroes and villains. That's how he met Tim Drake-Wayne or BatShadow as was his username back then.

Chapter 1: Blorbo Supplier

Danny just wanted to see uncommon pictures of Superman. It really shouldn't have been this hard. He's an alien, there should be a lot of pictures of him. Frustrated with his lack of results he resorts to looking for the pictures through unpopular social media websites that should have new pictures. His first look didn't meet his goal, and before he could even think of trying again he was distracted by a post. It was a picture of a figure swinging between skyscrapers, backlit by neon light all against a smog filled sky. It was stunning and made all the more captivating by the identity of the subject in the photo. A picture of Batman, The Batman, taken in a way that you couldn't deny it was him. That was impressive on its own, but the quality is what made it shine. Danny had to see if the account had more pictures of Batman, or even other heroes. Looking at the blog, hoping it wasn't a deactivated user, he finds the posts of BatShadow. 

The blog is a gold mine of pictures of Batman and Robin with some villains the duo we're fighting. All with stunning quality, with each subject undeniable as who they were but still giving a sense of privacy. Sadly, Danny couldn't find any other heroes pictured, but Danny could live with that. Batman was his third favorite hero, he blames Sam and all her knowledge on the edgy and obscure. She would be ecstatic about these photos, too bad he wasn't going to tell her. He was being petty. Sam should have known better than to say he couldn't keep a secret, so this is his secret now! Pettiness aside, Danny was going to message BatShadow to see if they had pictures of other heroes they hadn't posted.

Danny continued talking to BatShadow about pictures and superheroes. Eventually switching to personal interest. Danny learns that BatShadow skateboards and in turn he tells them all about the stars. By the end of their conversation it was well into the night, Jazz wasn't going to be pleased. It was worth it though.

Danny ended up messaging again the next day, and the day after that. The other user was interesting and he was just so broad. Especially during these long summer days where Sam was off at some gala trip and Tucker was on vacation with his family. His parents being busy in the Lab at all hours and Jazz working a summer job didn't help. Even with Jazz trying to get him out of the house but it never really was worth it. Not with Dash and his gaggle out. Not without his friends there.

It's not like anyone besides Jazz would care about what he was doing online. Their parents were too caught up in drawing out plans and blueprints for a ghost portal or something. He doesn't care, it's more of the same for him. Don't get him wrong, he loved his parents and they loved him. They just pay more attention to their inventions, and this one happens to be one Danny can't help out with.

He's getting distracted. Danny was supposed to be cleaning the lab, not thinking of long gone days. It was taking way longer than he thought it would. His parents really aren't as careful with their samples as they really should be. After cleaning spilled ectoplasm from the vent grates he will finally be done, then he can get on the computer and add BatShadow on Steam. They were going to play Portal 2 together later.

Tim didn't think he would still be talking to ConstellationCruiser. It was unexpected, but not unwelcome. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, (if there was anyone to talk to in the first place), but he was lonely. So, sue him if he got attached to the other kid with too much free time on their hands. They may not have told each other their ages but it wasn't hard to figure out, they talked too similar.

It was nice to really connect with someone his age. ConstellationCruiser was smart like him, just in different areas. He had learned more about the stars and space travel in the last handful of months than he ever had in his 12 years of life. He knows he wasn't any better, going on about hacking and maybe the new murder mystery that came out. It was fun, learning about the other's interests and different things than what's normal for them. 

ConstellationCruiser's parents seem to have some type of lab in the basement of their house, which was cool in concept but concerning in practice. There have been times where they had to stop in the middle of a game they were playing together to check on an explosion they heard. It happened more than Tim was comfortable with but there's nothing he can really do about it. It's not like he was anyone better about certain aspects of his life either. He avoided the topic of food as much as possible, though it seems ConstellationCruiser is doing the same thing with the topic.

Tim just hopes the other won't worry over him not responding the next couple of days. He probably should warn them but this is time sensitive. Batman needs a Robin. The man is running himself into the ground. His new found grief choking him and by extension Gotham. He has to convince Nightwing to come back, no matter what it takes.

DPXDC Scum Villain Self-Saving System crossover prompt:

Dash Baxter's Self Saving System

Danny Phantom exists in the DC universe. . . as a TV show. Robin grew up watching Danny and identifies strongly with the young hero. It’s fun escapism! One night after patrol while ranting online about how stupid Phantom Planet is as a finale, how many dropped plot threads there are, how so much of the rich worldbuilding is just throwaway lines that are never explored again, Robin triggers the Transmigration System and gets isekai-ed into Amity Park. 

Now Robin is trapped in the role of Schoolyard Bully Dash Baxter and must fix the plot and avoid OOC behavior in order to return home.

Which Robin is it? I can see this going several ways: 1) Tim Drake: Already canonically a huge nerd and would absolutely hate being stuck in the role of mean dumb jock. Would manage to become best friends with the everlasting trio as soon as he got the OOC function turned off. Tucker would love geeking out with Tim over tech, and Sam would pick up on his gothic Bat vibes. He transmigrates because a combination of sleep deprivation, untreated injuries from vigilantism, compromised immune system from lack of spleen, and an unhealthy dose of caffeine cause him to keel over and die like Shen Yuan. With Dash’s natural athleticism and Tim’s ingenuity he could either cobble together or get his hands on some anti-ecto weaponry and become Hunter to Val’s Huntress. Would definitely trigger a whole new plotline around clones. Meanwhile back in Gotham Batman is going off the rails after a second Robin dies on his watch. 2) Jason: Gets isekai-ed during the explosion in Ethiopia. His revival is predicated on him completing the plot in Amity Park. UTRH is subverted by his quest to get back to Danny/bring Danny to Gotham. He's learned better coping strategies from Jazz. Sneaks into Fentonworks and steals a bunch of weapons immediately. Shoots Spectra in the face with the Fenton Bazooka the second she shows up. He'd love having Mr. Lancer for English. 3) Dick: Recently took up the mantle of Nightwing and broke away from Bruce. Does not enjoy being a teen again in high school (with normie parents! ugh!!). Actually doesn’t have a difficult time adjusting to Dash’s social life since he’s a natural leader and very charismatic, and unlike Dash isn't cruel and violent. Absolutely has a difficult time adjusting to Dash’s physique because it is *not bendy enough* and he keeps on pulling muscles. Returns to Gotham to discover Jason’s death and calls in a favor from Danny to find his brother’s wandering spirit. 4) Stephanie: Trans Dash Baxter with Stephanie’s personality actually sounds amazing. I think she’d still pursue Jazz like Dash did, but with a much higher rate of success. Not sure if it would be fair to drop someone as hot as a trans version of Stephanie in Amity though, she would become the main character and everyone would forget the ghost boy. 5) Damian: not sure where I’d go with this, but it could be fun. He’d probably stab Vlad, which I would enjoy. Might also stab Star and Paulina, which would get him nerfed by the System. Would probably first seek out Vlad to obtain weaponry comparable to Huntress' and manipulate him into believing they shared a common goal, then betray him at a key moment. He has lots of experience dealing with megalomaniacal rich men from his time with Ra's and the League. Would get on great with Dani. 5) Jarro: Please please please someone write this I have no idea how, but it would be hilarious and Jarro would be seriously weirded out by having a human body. Whether this is a ship or platonic relationship depends on the pairing I think.

Why Danny should be tossed into the Gotham cast

A short medium long list of reasons, by me:

It funny.

Lady Gotham being an nuisance. A mostly benign one but still a nuisance.

Danny being a even bigger nuisance in retaliation because men can be so petty.

Ol' Batsy getting multiple headaches. Must be his age catching up.

Jason.

Oh sweet, a whole species of enslaved undead waiting to be rescued and rehabilitated. Hmm wonder what's the deal with all the owl motifs?

Did I mention Jason? Oh I did. But how about his magic sword? You know the glowy lightsaber that's powered by his soul or something?

Bird watching is fun. Bat watching is even more fun. Until they start watch you back but eh

The rouges here feels more homely then elsewhere. More malicious to the living then your average Amity haunting, maybe. But the commitment to a theme is very familiar, as is the frequency of attacks.

Another fake clown to soup up! Huh? What do you mean he's human? Humans can't get souped like that don't be silly lol.

Finally someone that is both willing (untrue) and able (we'll see) to deal with the various curses in Gotham. Yay...

No but seriously Danny-make friends with rouges while actively beating each other up-Phantom would fit right in with the Robins.

It's Jazz's dream job working in Arkham... Well it's actually working on dismantling the cursed thing, but baby steps, baby steps.

Imagine the everlasting trio getting onto the bats watchlist within a week. Separately.

Sam for Ivy The Second tendency; Danny because he's poking around old dionesium researches that he shouldn't know about; and Tucker because he's having fun (one-sided) with his new online friends. Oracle is deeply unamused.

Ellie should never meet Damian. They'll be such good bad influences for each other.

Danny Nightingale is more focused texting on his phone to his bf & bff to even notice Tim Drake flicking him notes in the middle of class.

It's not like Danny ever said he was dating anyone & it's not like his oblivious ass ever realized Tim was flirting with him.

He's not even sure how he & Tucker got their heads out of the sand [it was Sam she quite literally had to coerce a confession out of those two]

This is also the first time that Tim hasn't been desired & he doesn't know what to do. He's used to just standing there & looking pretty, but now he's got to work for it & he's never been more out of his depth.

Tim is known as a guy everyone had a crush on at some point. He's pretty, smart and just nice to hang around with.

So seeing him absolutely falter and flail around trying to get the attention of the new guy and failing miserably everytime, is absolutely fascinating to the rest of his schoolmates.

Danny Nightingale does not care at all about Tim drake and it's the biggest drama in the history of the school.

There are bets, clubs of people who want to help and who want to get in between, the teachers are invested.

Meanwhile Danny has no clue about any of this happening and Tim is getting to a point where he considers, ugh, asking his family and friends for advice.

So all of the Fentons go to stay at a cabin. Jack and Maddie are there because ghosts are in the area, danny in the meantime has been calling with his online friend Damian Wayne chatting and stuff. Around this time strangely Tim who’s been forced to go on a vacation for his mental health ( I was actually originally thinking the drakes took him but I forgot the were dead lol) and he ends up in the next cabin over.

Danny’s also has another problem his hair isn’t transforming back!! So he’s been wearing a hat all the time ( it’s tuckers beanie) and Damian finds out!! Damian obviously opens a investigation (without tellling his family( he got in a fight with bruce)) and Tim and Danny start hanging out aswell( Danny is more towards Tim’s age in this) eventually Damian calls while they are hanging out….

Like let’s say the GIW have a hunch he’s phantom and that’s why he’s on the run. So Tim decides to help and gets “captured” and they do a blood test, and since he’s a alternate version of Tim the DNA is like 99.9% the same and like oh theres no ectoplasm in his blood.. oops sorry.

The Danny as Phantom comes in and saves Tim and since they’re in the same place at the same time they drop the case and continue to look for clues on who Phantom is. Thankfully Tim helps take the GIW along with their friends. And now Sam, Tucker, and the rest of the Fentons are able to visit Danny when they want to. And when the Fentons meet Tim they include him in the family like they did with Danny and Dani. Which makes the Batfam jealous that Tim is getting along with them.

Ok, but the idea of Danny being an alt. Tim is kinda great and tragic bc it means that either way he's kinda doomed to neglectful parents (whether his parents are by birth or adoption) and to being exposed to the realiving juice (ectoplasm vs lazarus water - are they the same? Different?) (tim was exposed to the pit right? Haven't read the comics so I have no idea).

Tim, before the batfam find out about Danny, organizes a charity event. He promises some of the local Gotham heroes will be present and he has word from red robin personally that he will show up.

Bruce knows of course, he helped Danny sue everyone for harassment, he's in on the joke.

Dick, Damian, Babs, Jason, Duke, Steph? They know of absolutely nothing.

During patrol that night night wing is chastising red robin about potentially giving up their identities! How dare you say such a thing you can't be in two places at once!

Red robin just smiles and asks if night wing can make it to the event or not.

Cue the event and red robin is there, as promised, standing next to Tim, shaking hands with his personal assistance right behind them.

(Tim is in the suit and Danny is going as Tim, but people don't know that)

Red Robin gives a very convincing speech about fighting crime by going down to the root and facing societal inequalities, Danny (fully according to script) says that Wayne industries is planning on building better infrastructure in the poorer areas of Gotham, including funding better healthcare facilities and offering job opportunities to those in need.

Dick still cannot figure out how Tim pulled this off but he's given up at this point. If you can hide a missing organ who says you can't have grown a clone in 2 weeks without telling anyone

Skipping back/ forwards several steps, Danny originally applied for an engineering job, but also as a passion project down the line mounts the aerospace division of WayneCorp + nerds out about the Watchtower and routinely does external repairs in ghost form, giddy he gets to experience the cold vaccum of space. Space is the one area where he hisses possessively if Tim tries to have an opinion about the large company-scale decisions.

But, and I can not stress this enough, Danny comes at it from a :sparkle: science :sparkle: point of view and collaborates on research with various international space agencies. Plus, ya know. The JL, GL corps, and whoever else. This isn’t a Musk/ Bezos situation.

Danny builds Jason the Outlaws another ship/ upgrades and he and Arsenal aren’t to be left alone together. The generated goodwill rubs off on Tim.

The Young Justice are flying home from a mission when the plane they're escaping in malfunctions and strands them in the middle of Illinois. Tim sends Bart out to scout out the area and when he comes back, he reports they're near a town called Amity Park. Looks like Tim is going to finally be able to check up on Danny. He's been wanting to ever since the accident. Of course, their stay only gets extended when ghosts attack the very same day they arrive.

hey i get as writes, sometimes we tend to write things that inspire us. sometimes, that means trends take over our collective trains of thoughts, and you get a big boom in a certain kind of trope. that’s just how supply/demand/fandom has always worked. all fandoms. even Danny Phantom (ei. dissection/vissection fics)

while there’s nothing wrong with this, it’s short sighted to look at any fandom and say they only write one type of fic. in fact, it’s rather rude and devaluing of creators hard work, hence why this post and the replies are getting such avid push back.

(side note: while this is very fair and valid reaction of us to be upset, op has apologized and i personally understand someone just throwing something online and not expecting people to take it badly. please don’t respond to my reply with negativity, i just want to take the moment to spread some information for people genuinely confused/curious.)

but in the case that someone genuinely doesn’t know about fics outside of the beloved adoption trope, here are some that are unique in concept and execution!!!

Not to like. Dig at the Phans or anything. But can we please start making content not related to DC? Like it was fun at first, but honestly I care more about the canon Danny Phantom characters than any DC character like. Ever. And it’s in everything, so like I’ll be reading a post and think it’s funny then BOOM! Nightwing/Robbin/anyone in the bat fam (a term I have learned against my will) and instantly I don’t care anymore. Believe me, I’ve tried to avoid it, and tried to find other content not related to it. But I mean it when I say it’s in literally everything.

Yes, this is a me problem, but it sure is a problem for me.

Danny, becoming bored now that everything has calmed down, has decided to become an online DM for a virtual D&D group. Based on a normal town haunted by various ghosts and undead that haunt thus town while having access through a thin veil. So what if he's venting a bit? Sue him!

Tim, however, was becoming with the stories given by the DM. The lore, each characters, both human in ghosts, including a ghost vigilante and his three human friends, were all in too deep detail to be fake.

Summary: Danny has always had more internet access than a child really should have had. He tended to spend that time on game forums and different websites dedicated to space. Everyone once in a while he'd venture onto one about heroes and villains. That's how he met Tim Drake-Wayne or BatShadow as was his username back then.

Chapter 1: Blorbo Supplier

Danny just wanted to see uncommon pictures of Superman. It really shouldn't have been this hard. He's an alien, there should be a lot of pictures of him. Frustrated with his lack of results he resorts to looking for the pictures through unpopular social media websites that should have new pictures. His first look didn't meet his goal, and before he could even think of trying again he was distracted by a post. It was a picture of a figure swinging between skyscrapers, backlit by neon light all against a smog filled sky. It was stunning and made all the more captivating by the identity of the subject in the photo. A picture of Batman, The Batman, taken in a way that you couldn't deny it was him. That was impressive on its own, but the quality is what made it shine. Danny had to see if the account had more pictures of Batman, or even other heroes. Looking at the blog, hoping it wasn't a deactivated user, he finds the posts of BatShadow. 

The blog is a gold mine of pictures of Batman and Robin with some villains the duo we're fighting. All with stunning quality, with each subject undeniable as who they were but still giving a sense of privacy. Sadly, Danny couldn't find any other heroes pictured, but Danny could live with that. Batman was his third favorite hero, he blames Sam and all her knowledge on the edgy and obscure. She would be ecstatic about these photos, too bad he wasn't going to tell her. He was being petty. Sam should have known better than to say he couldn't keep a secret, so this is his secret now! Pettiness aside, Danny was going to message BatShadow to see if they had pictures of other heroes they hadn't posted.

Danny continued talking to BatShadow about pictures and superheroes. Eventually switching to personal interest. Danny learns that BatShadow skateboards and in turn he tells them all about the stars. By the end of their conversation it was well into the night, Jazz wasn't going to be pleased. It was worth it though.

Danny ended up messaging again the next day, and the day after that. The other user was interesting and he was just so broad. Especially during these long summer days where Sam was off at some gala trip and Tucker was on vacation with his family. His parents being busy in the Lab at all hours and Jazz working a summer job didn't help. Even with Jazz trying to get him out of the house but it never really was worth it. Not with Dash and his gaggle out. Not without his friends there.

It's not like anyone besides Jazz would care about what he was doing online. Their parents were too caught up in drawing out plans and blueprints for a ghost portal or something. He doesn't care, it's more of the same for him. Don't get him wrong, he loved his parents and they loved him. They just pay more attention to their inventions, and this one happens to be one Danny can't help out with.

He's getting distracted. Danny was supposed to be cleaning the lab, not thinking of long gone days. It was taking way longer than he thought it would. His parents really aren't as careful with their samples as they really should be. After cleaning spilled ectoplasm from the vent grates he will finally be done, then he can get on the computer and add BatShadow on Steam. They were going to play Portal 2 together later.

Tim didn't think he would still be talking to ConstellationCruiser. It was unexpected, but not unwelcome. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, (if there was anyone to talk to in the first place), but he was lonely. So, sue him if he got attached to the other kid with too much free time on their hands. They may not have told each other their ages but it wasn't hard to figure out, they talked too similar.

It was nice to really connect with someone his age. ConstellationCruiser was smart like him, just in different areas. He had learned more about the stars and space travel in the last handful of months than he ever had in his 12 years of life. He knows he wasn't any better, going on about hacking and maybe the new murder mystery that came out. It was fun, learning about the other's interests and different things than what's normal for them. 

ConstellationCruiser's parents seem to have some type of lab in the basement of their house, which was cool in concept but concerning in practice. There have been times where they had to stop in the middle of a game they were playing together to check on an explosion they heard. It happened more than Tim was comfortable with but there's nothing he can really do about it. It's not like he was anyone better about certain aspects of his life either. He avoided the topic of food as much as possible, though it seems ConstellationCruiser is doing the same thing with the topic.

Tim just hopes the other won't worry over him not responding the next couple of days. He probably should warn them but this is time sensitive. Batman needs a Robin. The man is running himself into the ground. His new found grief choking him and by extension Gotham. He has to convince Nightwing to come back, no matter what it takes.
