hi there! your dogs are beautiful. how do you exercise them?
Honestly mostly leash walks and fetch. We also hike whenever the weather allows, and it depends on the trail whether we do offleash or onleash hikes. And of course they play with each other so they get to run around in the yard like idiots.
Fenris, because he is a sport dog, also exercises when we do our sport training as it requires a lot of activity and movement from him often in highly aroused mental states. So he's pretty muscular compared to the others right now as a result.

Seeing u rb the post about dogs was so validating. My step-mom's (and subsequently mine) dog is very big and reactive to almost everything. She's super sweet to her people, but she's terrified of almost everything else, people and dogs alike. And offleash dogs are a trigger for her since she got attacked by one once, which you guessed it!! Was offleash in an onleash area (in our complex, which is dangerous on so many levels, like do u want ur dog to get hit by a car??!!). But yeah, it can get very frustrating, because we just want to take her on nice calming walks sometimes, but it's next to impossible since people refuse to leash their dogs anywhere 😭
Even my uni campass which is filled with hundreds of ppl, has offleash dogs running amock constantly, it's crazy.
But yeah, nice to know we're not the only ones w that struggle, bc recently we've felt a little insane hahahaha
oh man that's so rough to deal with I totally know what that's like!! your poor girl that sounds so stressful for her :( especially her getting attacked by an offleash dog thats awful :((
also I feel that my mom always wanted to bring my dog to my college campus for move in/move out day and i never let her precisely because of how many offleash dogs were always running around
you're definitely not alone though. my dog is a sweetheart when it comes to people, he lovessss giving attention and is the biggest cuddler around. and when he's in a house with other dogs he's surprisingly fine too. but there's just something about being on a leash that makes him super reactive? we did everything right. we socialized him regularly with lots of other dogs from the time he was a puppy precisely so he wouldn't be aggressive. as far as we know, nothing ever happened. but one day when he was like 3 I was walking him and he nearly dragged me across the street trying to get to another dog. from there it only got worse, so now when I walk him I have to be hyperaware of my surroundings at all times so if I hear a dog coming our way I can move his leash up so I can hold him better so he can't lunge. it works, but it's stressful as hell and of course when it comes to offleash dogs i'm genuinely just fucked.
one time I was walking my dog and a woman had her dog offleash. the dog started walking towards me and my dog, and I held him tight as the dog got closer and eventually asked the woman to keep her dog away because mine was aggressive. and this woman just scoffed and went "get a trainer" before walking past us. like?? ma'am I can keep my dog under control but if your dog is off leash there is literally only so much I can do. I was so pissed.

No, this is not a valid reason for going outside to walk your pet :-) In France, people need to provide a signed form to walk their dog #petwalk #trex #onleash #toyanimal #fakeanimal #walkingthepet #confinement #quarantine #coronavirus #covid19 https://www.instagram.com/p/B92jI7thgwD/?igshid=z1h7sr7wy814

What's the best way to teach recall to an intact dog that just wants to mark every blade of grass, bush, and telegraph pole?
This is a really multi-step issue that would have to be broken down into multiple pieces before it becomes fully trustable.
Inappropriate marking and dogs that obsessively mark need to be curbed. There is no reason a dog needs to obsessively pee on every single upright structure. Start telling your dog where he can and cannot pee.
Recall needs to be taught first onleash and in an enclosed area, and slowly built up to a long line, and then from there slowly built up to off leash. If you cannot get your dog back to you the first time you call, I don't care what the reason is, your dog should not be off leash.
You need to be far more important to him. If he does not care enough about you to engage to the point where he is choosing peeing over engaging with you, there is something fundamentally lacking about your engagement with him and this is honestly where I would start. Again, I don't care what the reason is, if I ask my dogs to engage with me it's because I want them to do it, so there is no reason for them to deliberately choose something else over that engagement.

I was reminded today that pheebee is like, part pitbull and/or other “strong” breeds of dogs.
A dog at an onleash area of a nearby park had slipped out of it’s collar and was being a rascal (the owner got it back on, don’t worry). Pheebee, rapscallion she is, wanted to play with this rambunctious beast. Pheebee is in her Harness.
Pheebee, not exactly a heavy dog, was able to use her strength and low centre of gravity to basically pull me (a 6′4′‘ heavy person) towards the rebellious dog.
I was able to keep Pheebee under control, but dang Pheebee is stronger then she looks.
