Going from feeling very conflicted over ML S5's finale, and deciding to cope through drowning myself in OnK only for ch 123 to drop the immediate week after and cause all the incels come out of the woodworks (while twitter tries to cancel the series) was not a fun time for my emotional health 馃槶

I had analyzed that Aqua's drive/motives in the story is that:
"Aqua wants to avenge the person that's hurt Ai, the one precious to him, in some way."
but it COULD have shifted to: "having Ai's true wishes be fulfilled", and this could not only be because he cares for her, BUT, it's the same mission that's been assigned to him by the gods. If you look at the story, Aqua has two goals:
Revenge on Ai's murderer / The mission the gods have given him(the meaning of carrying his soul in his current body - 118)
and he says in CH 118 that he "has only one mission".
He's been very keen about making what Ai's wanted come true, fulfilling her request. He says he'll definitely get it done (CH 130)
and if Ai IS the reincarnation of Amenouzume, then fulfilling her request would not only mean he's helping her mother but also acting for a god's behalf. Then this becomes a divine mission.
Therefore, I make the deduction: The mission he's been assigned by the gods = Ai's request.
he's never went so from from his original goal. Aqua's always been working for Ai. And that's why he was the very soul who was chosen to be reincarnated as her son because he's the one who'd be determined enough to make it come true. Aqua wanted to help Ai since his former life as Gorou, I think that's how he's been chosen. Ruby was also chosen, and I feel it's probably because she has the potential to outshine Ai and prosper on that same path she's been and go even beyond. These two souls that were chosen to become Ai's twins were said to have been chosen for a reason. It all makes sense like this, they've really been fulfilling their part.
Aqua.. might have also been assigned to take Kamiki down if he's gone too far by the other gods. in that case, he could have to either kill of die with him so maybe that's how he's been all about how Ruby should still live even after he's gone(ch 106) and how Tsukuyomi is all like, it was a bad move he's made and that he doesn't have the personality for revenge (ch 123)
In this case, the only way this story can be a happy ending would be that Kamiki is someone worth saving the way Ai's said.. Ai HAS to be right about him...which I think it would be??? I examined his character and there's quite a bit of a possibility of it being real.
So what I say now is: Don't disappoint your gf and kids Kamiki, get yourself together. His life's been so much suffering though. It's horrible, I've said this this morning I think? but I'll say this again, regardless of how great he looks and how talented he is, I definitely do not wish to switch places with him, his life is cursed. If he was evil all along then maybe he lived getting his way thus he might have had a happier life?; but I don't think the boy that's made Ai care so much about him would be a bad person. Ai will get what she wants in the end. That is also Aqua's goal, and the central backbone of the story, her overcoming every obstacle to have her love come true and see light. There, I'm much more relieved about this now. Hope this is it! I'm going to play episode Aigis!!! You have to read onk as full volumes. I feel it's going to be way better that way.
I've been exploring the idea that the star IS the god of the series (in that case, the name "hoshino" implies that the members of the household must be all gods..!)
And I thought the there would be a god who's responsible for the black star and the white star, one each..
But it does also occur to me, what message would THAT have if the story is only swayed by the gods? That's just as much as convenient and shallow as having one mastermind be responsible for every bad thing in the story.
So here's another idea, remember how in the first season's op(anime ver), a white star floats in the bg and it glitches out into being the black one? Maybe it's just one god who's responsible for both.
I think the "star" would be the "god of entertainment"(ame-no-uzume) and she's the one who originally really loves people and loves spreading love, thus blessing those in the entertainment industry and helps them rise to bigger heights.
However, the entertainment industry ended up having many dark sides to it, making her become corrupt and form another, irrational and destructive side of her, thus the "black star". Whenever someone falls deep and gets consumed by the malice of it, she tries to protect them through her powers but it works like a monkey's paw because she herself is tainted.
Maybe the two protagonists are assigned to bring back order and bring her back to her true nature. Ruby heads into the light(the white star), the bright side of the industry while Aqua may have to get rid of? Fix? Purify?; the corrupt sides of the industry SOMEHOW(black star). This is just a passing thought but I have a feeling that it could have been the people who've corrupted the gods in the first place if they've been causing mishap. The black and the white could be two sides of the same thing and the brighter the light, the stronger the shadow becomes.
Anyhow, the way how everyone's wishes that they made in Amenouzume's shrine became granted but in twisted ways.. Seem to imply that the god IS unstable right now. (Or that her husband is. That shrine actually worships both her and her husband.) Then, in that case, making the industry healthier may help that god return to her original loving self. She could be both the god who loves people & the one that is absurd and irrational.
Just throwing this out here too because theorizing doesn't hurt!
+ADDING ON:
Aqua's reaction towards the name "Amenouzume" was interesting(ch 74). I've said this once but he seems to have many thoughts about her.
I feel like the "role" or "mission" he was assigned by the gods he has could be related to that particular god. And if Ai IS amenouzume, the way Aqua is so keen about "making her real wishes come true" (end of ch 109, end of ch 130, how he says he only has one mission to tsukuyomi in ch 118)(making the movie, saving kamiki) and vowing he would do it for her is not only just because Ai is his precious person. It's what he HAS been assigned to do.
I believe that could be why he's been thinking about how he should "save his father" in respect to his mother's wishes because he's figured out that if that's what she wanted, it's something he needs to follow through regardless of what he wants.
However, if their dad is a "corrupted god" in reality that's already gone too far down the wrong path(refer to this post: I feel Kamiki IS a god who's forgotten he's a god too), thus is someone beyond saving, he can't go through with his mission. Then he'd rather keep everyone who loves safe, away from his influence, and take him down.
I think that's what's going on there... doesn't it all work nicely together?
