For those us of unfortunates who are not from the Midwest, would you mind telling us (me) what hot dish on a stick is?

well i’m pretty sure other regional versions of this dish exist (it’s also called casserole but in my neck of the woods we call it hot dish) and honestly there are so many variations of it, but hot dish is historically a ground meat of some kind (usually ground beef), some kind of potato (whether tater tots, mashed potatoes, shredded hash browns, etc) and whatever veggies you want mixed with a can of cream of mushroom soup (or some variant - cream of celery, cream of chicken, you can use a combo of stock and heavy whipping cream). then there’s always some kind of crispy element on top, whether or not you do tots or cornflakes or fried onions or whatever. and you bake it in a dish and serve it. it’s easy to prepare and freeze and it keeps for a while, which is why it’s such a midwestern thing, and honestly you can do almost anything to it and it’ll turn out good. you can add cheese, any kind of additional mix in or topping…. casserole is hard to fuck up.

the hot dish on a stick we had at the fair was a pretty simple ground beef and tator tot mix that was battered and deep fried and served with a mushroom gravy. we enjoyed it (i think it needed some salt and onions personally).

sometimes i think about how Maron is genuinely capable of being abrasive and an asshole but if he feels like he can be nice (give someone food, etc) he will be and that's what makes him seem Very Very Nice All The Time. Reality is he just has no filter so everything comes out exactly as he's thinking it good or bad!

im cooking it more on the stove so it reaches the point where the chicken is disintegrating, which is less good than just-cooked tender but at least it's better than hard chunks, and i'm gonna put it over plain rice to hopefully balance out the extreme onion flavor. idk what im gonna do with all those hamburger buns now, but this is just how it has to be
