All of these referencing questions are really interesting (and also scary… how is that one PhD student functioning?) I had the distinct pleasure of using Chicago, MLA in-text, and APA over the course of my undergrad due to being an honors student (requiring me to take more math and science) and minoring in English and History. Then I did my masters in Film Studies in Ireland and used MHRA for every paper except my thesis—they let me use Chicago on my Thesis because that was what I was most used to at that point and because that’s how Film Studies papers and books are mostly cited in the US, where I am from. I don’t remember disliking MHRA but it was something new to get used to. Chicago is my favorite system but I think any citation system that uses footnotes or endnotes is superior to in-text citation because it doesn’t interrupt the flow of the work. MLA in-text was the bane of my existence for a while.

Look, ever since this topic came up, my inbox has EXPLODED. People have strong feelings about their citation trauma and/or previous nonsensical reference system, and they want to share it. So I am glad that we are all in this stupid, stupid boat together.

And yes, I shall add you to the list of the supporters of the Only Correct Referencing System (footnotes). Because I mean. Obviously.

Hi! I'm super new to the Nancy Drew games and I was wondering if you or any of your followers have any recommendations on which game would be best to start with? I have Mac OS.

HELLO! 

i’m so excited that you are discovering the games! so they only started making the games compatible for Mac’s on game 22, so out of those games Ghost of Thornton Hall is actually my favorite one 👀, but i also really like Shadow at the Water’s Edge, Sea of Darkness, The Silent Spy and Alibi in Ashes. i probably wouldn’t start with Alibi in Ashes just because game play can be a tiny bit frustrating since you are switching between the characters you are playing a lot and they didn’t do it in the very best way possible tbh, but i think any of the others you can’t go wrong with! Ghost of Thornton Hall and Shadow at the Water’s Edge are both on the scarier side so if you’re into that i would start there and if not i would go with either The Silent Spy or Sea of Darkness.

I saw you were wondering why all the script teases were on different colored pages. In the film and television industry, different colored pages are used to indicate that a change has been made to the script on that page. That way people don't get different drafts mixed up and everyone has the correct version of the script. Once they get into a lot of different drafts they just replace the pages that have changes on them. Hope that explained it. :)

SO I HAVE A DILEMMA

I have to turn in a revised copy of my script for Cinema tomorrow by 10. I've already gone through it once and cut out a lot of the flowery language, and I know that I need to add a couple scenes in the beginning so that people are more attached to the background characters. 

My problem is that I don't know exactly how to end it--at the moment, there's no resolution. 

This script is sort of inspired by Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None as well as that idea floating around Tumblr of Natalie Dormer as a mobster. Anyways, I'm gonna leave a short synopsis and my three endings below the cut. If you guys wanna help me out, I would really appreciate it. 

The protagonist of this script is Jimmy Dobbes, a detective with the NYPD in the year 1927. Dobbes is super strait-laced; he doesn't drink (because of Prohibition,) he's never taken bribes, and he's never discharged his service weapon. He's kind of new at his job. He works Organized Crime, and for the past few months, he's been chasing down a rising Westies leader in Hell's Kitchen named Frankie O'Malley. No one has seen Frankie O'Malley. However, Mark Fallon is still technically the Westies' head honcho. 

Dobbes attends a mysterious dinner party hosted by Mark Fallon hoping obtain some information about the elusive Frankie O'Malley. The other guests at this party are a candidate for Mayor, a city councilman's wife, and a judge. They all have ties to other gangs in New York. Fallon has gathered them there because he wants to intimidate them into making deals with him. There's also a butler and a maid in the mansion. 

Things begin to go wrong when one of the guests ingests arsenic laced chocolate mousse and expires. Dobbes takes charge of the investigation, but one by one, the party guests and servants expire until Fallon and Dobbes are the only ones left. In the ensuing tussle, Dobbes kills Fallon. He's pretty shook up about this, considering he's never fired his weapon on anyone before. 

He tries dialing his precinct, but suddenly, he finds out that the maid actually isn't dead. She's holding a gun to his head, because surprise surprise: she orchestrated this whole plot because she's Frankie O'Malley. She offers him a deal: to be her inside man on the force or die. It's also implied that she finds him sexually attractive and that their relationship will probably progress to that point if he takes the deal. 

I have three possibilities for ending this:

1) He doesn't take the deal. They both end up dead before the cops arrive. The only named character that doesn't die in the script shows up at the end to try to piece together what happened. 

2) He doesn't take the deal. He dies and Frankie O'Malley walks away to rule New York's underworld with an iron fist. 

3) He takes the deal and goes back to work for the NYPD, but doesn't tell this new information to anyone. They rule the underworld together. 

So if you could comment below or drop me a message about which ending you think is best, I would really appreciate it.
