Hello, I hope I'm not being weird here.

I just wanted to pop in and say I'm a huuuge fan and longtime tumblr follower, and have been reading your work for ages now. I just never got the courage to engage when you and the other handful of Bleach fans are talking on my dash hahahaha.

Your interpretations of their Renji and Rukia are basically canon to me -- I don't think anyone else has done as much work to capture their voices and dynamic as well as you have. The 2 of them have had me in a chokehold since I was waiting for Bleach updates every Thursday on Onemanga at the tender age of 11 (16 years ago!!), and they still have me in a chokehold now -- I credit that to your excellent writing and analysis. In a smallish fandom (and a smaller-still ship), it's so comforting to know that there're still people who're still here and still care enough to engage with the material.

I love how you write the vice-captain posse also, their workplace (and off-duty) shenanigans give me joy, especially now that I'm no longer 11 and, like, get it.

I'm delighted that Damage History is up after seeing your updates on Tumblr, and am saving it as a treat for after my finals. I'll leave a comment on AO3 when I read it - HKShadowWorks if you wanna know who I am!

Also, please know that I am just a normal, boring person and no one ever needs to be nervous to talk to me. I am actually an incredibly shy and anxious person in real life, all of this ::gestures at blog:: is just a bit that I do, where I try to be kind and talk about the manga that I love and share my work even when it's not perfect and gush over other people's fan creations so they will want to make more.

Even for a quiet ship within a (currently) quiet fandom, I feel like it's gotten even quieter lately. Maybe it just feels like that because a lot of people on here I really like have gotten Overcome with Life Stuff, or moved on to other things. It may just be legit quieter since the anime is on break for now. Sometimes I think about giving up on all this, except that a) lol i am not going to stop, what else am I going to do? and b) if I stop making incredibly niche posts about the decor in the captains' offices, that's one less person out there making niche posts about the decor in the captains' offices. My point is, thanks for writing in! It is nice to hear there are people out there enjoying my work.

there’s a bunch of m/f that aren’t in my mdex records because I read it in like. high school. and on onemanga (LOL????) (I’m thinking about) (okay this is kind of dark) actually this is a complete thought, I know there was a series on onemanga I was reading where it was about a guy and a girl in high school but the girl had an abortion and I think the guy’s older sister found out and she had a stillbirth and while she was upset about that she was like ‘you didn’t even want a child and I did, why was mine taken away from me’ except probably a lot more fraught, and the mangaka had this author’s note. ok this is the whole point of this ramble. this is what I remember most vividly. the author had a note like “yeah I’m a mother of a young child and writing this made me super emotional so I was going up to my child like ‘you can’t die before mommy!’ and my kid was like ‘nooo I don’t want you to die before me I want to die before you!’ and I told her that was absolutely not allowed and she told me ‘then let’s die together :D’ DOUBLE SUICIDE???” that author’s note has stayed with me for basically like 15 years. also there was this series about a prince and a princess from warring countries who pretended to fall in love got married so their parents would sign some sort of treaty but they actually hated each other.

my set up was that I had a windows 98 computer with no internet access in my room that I used to type stories

the family computer was a windows XP. I used thew XP computer to use the internet, and if I found something on the internet I wanted on my windows 98 computer (like manga color spread pages that I got off onemanga) I would use a floppy disk to transfer them to my windows 98 computer

The irony here is that I'm pretty sure Crunchyroll started out as a pirating site. Like, I remember being worried it would get shut down like Onemanga did when companies finally started cracking down on unlicensed manga scanslations.

do you know a good place to read jjk. i want to get into it but im old (read: 30) and back in the day we used mangareader or onemanga and im not hip with all the kids new scanslation sites...

The best I've found is mangakatana 😔 some chapters are fan translated and others are the official translation

I do recommend that whenever you get curious about anything related to Buddhism/shinto you Google it bc this manga has so much context and some words were definitely very difficult to translate. I hope I'm not confusing or discouraging you from reading it but imo it's something to keep in mind

I had heard! I've not yet read it, even though of course I worship Hiromi/Hiromu Arakawa as the God of Shounen Manga. I'm waiting for some volumes to pile up. Having followed FMA for nearly a decade, I just don't have the patience to read a chapter per month anymore! Although I do miss those halcyon days of eagerly checking OneManga dot com in the school library, and discovering so many incredible stories and artists...sigh.

Now that you've reminded me about it, I just might break my promise to wait for five volumes and get started anyway.

I end up explaining the history of internet piracy to my siblings - younger AND older - feeling like some sort of wizened old crone who is also a veteran of forgotten wars. yes, I was there when the FBI seized OneManga and nearly all of anime internet. yes, crunchyroll was piracy like the rest of them, but only they chose to go straight and narrow, with the carcasses of their peers scattered around them they saw an opportunity and they clawed for it. but if you want to really understand, I need to explain to you piratebay, 4shared, limewire, napster, and youtube2mp3. and the advent of netflix. settle in children.

Sjdhakfnfjsja did you hear about what's gonna happen to the manga??? I guess the people who make the english translations are gonna stop putting them out because some big company started threatening them. Some websites are already being taken down. That means there's only gonna be korean, porteguese, and japanese versions of the manga. SjdjshjaFZKSfd THIS IS SO FUCKIN STOOPID WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS THEY'RE GONNA LOSE SO MANY FANS SINCE THE MAJORITY OF THEM SPEAK ENGLISH WTFFFFF

yeah viz is most likely taking down competition. dont worry, there are many extremely popular mangas that will be picked up soon by new scanlation teams. the opportunity to stake claim on top manga is huge. scanlating will always be around, we just need to be patient. and even if we get the manga raws only, there are people who would do a translation without all the editing and stuff. 4chan is my go-to source typically.
