One of Nate's teachers called on him during the ceremony as one of a couple of special students in 5th grade. She pointed out how he was always so sweet and kind to everyone. December Photo Challenge. Day 10. Cuddle Buddy. Being a single parent isn't easy. It's not for the faint of heart or the easily frustrated. The days are long. The nights are longer. But it's always worth it to be the most prevalent voice in their head. Times like this are priceless when my growing fast, recently turned 10 year old comes to me and asks me to just please cuddle him and he falls asleep holding onto my arm. Nights like this, I wouldn't trade for the world. All too soon he'll be grown and will have grown out of his need to be close to me. After a little bit of a rough start at home this morning because of nerves, Nate had the BEST first day at school! I talked with his math teacher at pick up who was incredibly impressed at his math skills. Apparently she gave him quite the set of problems to do to assess where he was and he completed them in less than 5 minutes, and all were correct. She was shocked that last year in 3rd he had been doing basic algebra and fractions already. For the first time, Nate feels great about his mathematical abilities and is confident in them. This was a concern of mine because he really struggled with it previously. That doesn't appear to be the case here. He had science homework that was due Thursday that he completed in less than 30 minutes after getting home. He is just to happy to be at Wayside! With results like this, I am as well. He's almost 3 weeks behind the rest of the class since they actually started July 31, but I'm pretty sure he's going to have absolutely no problem catching up. As you can see, he is beaming from his first day and can't wait to go back tomorrow. Even though he has his own bed, my sweet 9 year old asked to sleep in my bed tonight for his last night before school starts. He's excited but nervous. It's a new school where he doesn't know anybody and it's a new grade and they actually started 2 1/2 weeks ago. I made the decision just last week to move schools for him instead of keeping him where he was. I ended up becoming his pillow and I'm perfectly fine with that. I can't believe my babygirl graduates next Friday! I can't believe she's 17 already, or that she's only 17 since she looks so much older. She is brilliant and beautiful.
