dating girl (jjk)
pairing: jungkook x reader
summary: you try to convince yourself that you're really okay with 'casually dating' your crush.
genre: college au, fwb kinda thing but more than friends ygm? angst!
"Are they allowed to cancel an entire day at college? That can't be good for anyone..." Your mother ponders out loud as you walk around the city hand-in-hand.
"There's not much you can do if someone decides to paint over every projector lens on campus." You nod.
"Lucky for me, I get to spend time with my little baby," she nuzzles her nose into your hair, squeezing you in a side-hug, "Still can't believe we have to schedule our hangouts now."
"Yeah, there's that..." You smile half-heartedly.
You stop near a flower stall, taking in the hustle and bustle of the city. It's especially crowded because of your university abruptly cancelling a bunch of classes.
After your day had freed up unexpectedly, you had invited your sorta but not really boyfriend, Jungkook, to go cafe hopping to find where all the good teas are because you knew he'd be available. But he never responded.
So your mood has been a bit damp all day.
You had just stepped out of this store that sold handmade sweaters and yarn balls. Not even a good shopping spree could lift your spirits.
What certainly doesn't help is randomly seeing said sorta but not really boyfriend who didn't respond to your texts out and about with some leggy blonde girl.
You've never seen her around.
Not that you know every single person on campus, but if they've crossed Jungkook's path, you know them.
They're dining together al fresco, at one of the cafes you had literally listed in your text to Jungkook.
Talk about a slap in your face.
For a second, you think she might just be his sister or something.
But that thought bubble is quickly shot at with a razor-sharp arrow when you see him kiss her knuckles.
Your eyes involuntary darken, and your mouth forms a pout. The kind one has when they're trying to hold back a cry or a sob.
All the while, your mother had talked about your grandparents' separation, the local diner having caught fire, and matching mother and daughter shoes she had bought for your birthday.
You were listening passively so you didn't quite catch everything.
When your mother notices the look on your face, she frowns, following the line of your vision.
Upon spotting Jungkook and mystery girl, she gasps angrily, "Oh, no, he sucks." She turns back to you, "Honey, I'm so sorry."
"No, mom, this is normal," you smile weakly, "And it's okay."
"You're still seeing him, aren't you?" She tilted her head in confusion.
"Yes." You nod, "I am."
"But then he's there," she points at the pair with her chin, "seeing her. How's that okay?"
"It just is, mom! Really," you attempt to convince your mother (and yourself) that you were 100% fine with witnessing Jungkook out with other women. "We're keeping things casual. Very... casual."
"And that's a mutual decision?" She confirms.
"We both agreed." You concur.
Your mother's still unsure about your choices. "Well. Okay then."
You glance at Jungkook and mystery girl one last time.
The picture isn't pretty. He's leaning into her ear and has his large hand placed over her bare thigh as she caressed his arm with her much smaller hand, thoroughly enjoying his attention.
Your mother watches your expression go stiff, "So, how does this work again?"
Snapping you out of your daze, she pushes a few strands of hair away from your eyes.
"Oh. Um..." You exhale, "Well, we see each other and we see other people, and that's that. We're cas-" - "Yeah, casual, I heard." Your mother interrupts your blabber.
When you frown at her she sighs, "Sorry..."
"It's ok." You look down at your feet, kicking a few stray pebbles out of the way.
"I just--- I thought you guys were sleeping together." She blurts.
"Mom!" You exclaim, looking around to see if anyone had heard her, "It's not that big of a deal. I want this too. And I need to learn to date too."
Again, you try to ease your mind about your decision.
"So who else are you dating?" She asks pointedly.
This is suddenly getting very exhausting.
You lightly cringe and look around, "Uh... Nobody yet. But this guy from one of my extras--- his name's Hoseok but we call him Hobi, or Hoba, depending on how close you are to him--- anyway, he asked me out to a halloween theme party next week."
Your mother gives you a knowing look, deciding to play along anyway, "Oh! You've never mentioned him before."
"Mhm. Because it's new." You hunch your shoulders nervously.
The party was hosted by the student body to raise funds for, you don't know, collegiate stuff.
You had imagined going with Jungkook, with matching Dentist and Tooth Fairy couple costumes. But he hadn't asked you yet and you definitely weren't going to bring it up first.
It's less than a week away, so you're not expecting anything from him either. He probably already has another date lined up.
You wonder if it's the blonde he's with now.
Maybe you can do the look with Hoseok instead.
"So, are you gonna do it?"
"Do what?" Was she in your head?
"Go with Hobi or Hoba." She makes air quotations for 'Hobi or Hoba.'
"Oh, yeah. Yep. Definitely." Suddenly remembering, you add, "Oh and can you make me my costume? I want to be the Tooth Fairy?" You softly ask her, knowing it's a little last minute, but also knowing she wouldn't deny you.
"Why of course! Does... Hobi need a costume too?" She asks carefully.
"Oh, no. Probably not." Well, you don't know. You don't know if his offer even stands now and you might end up not going at all.
Your mother rubs your shoulder, "Ask him and let me know, 'kay?"
You force out an uncomfortable smile and nod, "Thanks."
Although your mother's not convinced, she decides to drop the topic all together.
"Well, that's good," she smiles down at you warmly, "Do you want to get that sweater exchanged?"
It was vague, but you appreciated her attempt either way.
"Mhm. Back to the store we go." You narrate with an airy laugh.
Your mother was in the lead, already making her way to the store you had just walked out of.
Once again, your gaze falls on Jungkook and his date, and to your surprise he was staring right back at you.
You want to give him a little smile. To show him you're unbothered. But you couldn't seem to force one out this time.
So you settle with giving him a small wave, which he returns, mirroring your expression.
His date follows his line of sight and spots you too, giving you a tight smile. It's not passive aggressive, just... decent. Not polite either. But why should she be?
Jungkook blinks at you as you hurriedly leave trying to keep up with your mother.
Maybe you should focus on Hoseok for now.
note: nobody asked for this but i was feeling a little silly :p needed some angsty ouchie with the possibility of a favourable conclusion so i indulged!
hey bonus points if you can tell what inspired this! and if you read all this lmk what you think regardless :D

range
words: 700
warnings: mentions of violence, takes place in s3, gun range, shooting (just targets), protective!rafe, soft!rafe, established relationship
“rafe, i really don't know about this…” you sigh, hands twisting around together, trying to combat them shaking and appearing weak in front of your boyfriend.
“i just think this would be a good idea.” rafe says, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear and pressing a kiss to your forehead. “i don't expect you to become a fan or do this fun, but it would make me feel better.”
“is this because of whatever you're doing with barry?” you question, placing your hands on your hips. “or why you were in carribbean for “business” and all of a sudden stop answering my calls?”
“what do you know about barry?” rafe questions, his face turning pale, voice dropping as his tone turns serious.
“i heard you talking to him on the phone. you thought i was asleep.” you admit sheepishly, not proud of what you did, but you knew rafe was hiding something from you.
“okay.” rafe says, hands dropping to your shoulders, giving them a squeeze. “yes. it's because of bad men that i want you to at least learn how to shoot a basic handgun. i will be here to protect you but if anything happens to me…”
“rafe, you're really scaring me.” you gulp, eyes suddenly darting around, wondering how safe you are in tanneyhill.
“im gonna get shit sorted out. soon. until then, i need to know you can protect yourself.”
“okay.” you pout, knowing rafe will suck his head and kiss you. you wrap your arms around his shoulders and find comfort in his hold, slight relief knowing that what he was hiding from you wasn't another girl, but knowing hes in danger sends a chill to your very core.
“as far as i can tell, no one knows about you. as much as i want to show you off to the world, i need you to just be sheltered for a little bit. until things blow over.”
“rafe,” you coo out, placing your hands on the smooth planes of his cheeks. “im not mad. i trust you. just tell me this stuff so im not sat here questioning.”
“i love you.” rafe says earnestly. he used to see it as a flaw, how deep his love runs for those he cares about, especially when it turned sour against his family, but when you came into his life everything turned around and began looking up, his growing love becoming a strength instead of a weakness.
“i love you too.” you press another kiss to his lips. “so, when are we going?”
--
rafe has the guns laid out in the case, all pointing down range. two pistols and one revolver, all handed down to him by ward, who of course only bought the highest of quality.
“okay.” you nod, listening intently to rafes safety lesson, purposely looking at the guns and not his face as to not get distracted and remind yourself of the importance of what you're doing.
“ill fire the full magazine first that way you can hear it and see it.” rafe explains. “and then ill reload and you can fire. this one doesn't have a lot of kickback.”
you nod and take a couple steps back, jumping when the first shot is fired, but your flinching slowly settles as rafe fires down the range until the gun clicks.
“ready?” rafe turns, placing his hands on your shoulders. “remember, when you pick up a gun, you're doing it to save yourself. you're shooting to kill.”
“i know.” you nod somberly, moving to the edge of the shooting area and picking up the gun, making sure to aim it towards the target the whole time as you adjust your grip before flipping the safety.
your finger hesitates briefly over the trigger before you fire, gasping at the power held in your hands.
you finish off the magazine and set the gun down with a staggering step back, right into rafes hold.
“i got you. you did good.” rafe hugs you to him, sliding your ear protection off to place kisses all over your face.
he continues comforting you after every round is fired, reminding you of the importance and reassuring you you're doing well.
“i know you didn't enjoy that.” rafe says as you get back into the car, having picked up all your shell casings and fully cleared the guns. “but im glad you did it, baby. i pray nothing ever happens but if it does, you'll be ready.”

Come Back Home
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Fem!Reader
Summary: After a relationship ending argument that caused you to leave the Bunker, you and Dean haven’t heard from/seen each other in over a year. Are there still sparks between you two? The better question is: Did they ever truly leave in the first place?
Word Count: 4.5k
Warnings: Cursing (1x), Mutual Pining, Fluff, A bit of angst
Authors Note: Flashbacks are in italics | I had such a hard time coming up with a summary for this | If you liked this, don’t forget to like & reblog. I really appreciate it! Feedback is always welcome ♡
It’s been over a year since you’ve last heard from or have seen Dean Winchester. The two of you were together for several years before eventually an argument erupted between the two of you, which ended in the two of you breaking up, and you leaving the Bunker; the only permanent home you had since yours burned down when you were a teenager.
“Y/N, why are you moving out?” Jack asked, as you were in yours and Dean’s shared – now former – bedroom. You were currently packing up a single duffel bag; a bag that had your entire life in it, a bag that you had been lugging around with you for as long as you could remember since the house fire.
Taking one of your shirts, you folded it up and placed it into the bag. You turned to look at Jack, a slightly sorrowful look on your face. “You know why Jack.” You didn’t want to move out, but you had thought that it would be for the best; especially since one of the reasons you had moved into the Bunker in the first place is because you and Dean had started dating. Before you had made the decision, Sam had told you that you didn’t have to move out, because him, Cas, and Jack had liked having you here. Even Dean – although the two of you were no longer together. But you had told Sam that seeing Dean every day – at least for now – was a little bit too painful for you.
“But everything is so much better with you here.” The last thing that Jack had wanted was for you to go. Ever since you moved into the Bunker, Jack said that it seemed more like a home. You had added so many personal touches that the Winchester’s never would have thought of otherwise if it wasn’t for you. Making an actual effort to celebrate every holiday – even the minor ones, implementing family dinners every Sunday, decorating for the holidays, hanging up pictures, and even having various house plants throughout.
You reached out for Jack’s hand and took it in yours, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I know Jack but…” You sighed. “Dean and I aren’t together anymore and I thought that it would be best for me to leave.”
“Just because you aren’t together doesn’t mean you have to leave. Sam said –” Jack started to say but you cut them off, knowing exactly what they were going to say.
“I know what Sam said. But, just because I’m leaving the Bunker doesn’t mean you and me still can’t talk.” You gave him a small smile and placed your hand on their cheek. Jack smiled back in return; their smile trying to convey understanding but hurt at the same time.
“Okay.” Jack said. “Can I hug you?” They asked.
“Of course. You don’t have to ask.” You said.
Jack and you hugged for what seemed like a long time; neither of you wanting to let go.
“Thanks Sam. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” You smiled, sitting crossed legged on the bed with your laptop in front of you. You had just received some photos of a book that you knew that had been in the Bunker for a case that you were currently working on and had asked Sam to send you some pictures. Although the Bunker was about an hours drive from where you were working the case and Sam had even offered to drop off the books, you had told him that it was best for him to just send you the pictures. You had felt that seeing him in person would make you start crying, even though you knew he had wanted to see you.
“I already know what you’re going to say but, I just wanted to ask. After you’re done there, did you…did you want to come over?” Sam already knew that you were going to say no, but he had wanted you to say yes. Even though he talked to you pretty regularly and the two of you sent photos back and forth, he still missed you. Seeing you physically was a lot different compared to FaceTiming you.
“I can’t Sam.” You sighed softly, closing the laptop in front of you and pushing it to the side. “I mean…I want to. But…I don’t want things to be awkward between me and Dean.” Although you had regularly kept in contact with Sam, Jack, and Cas, Dean on the other hand you didn’t. It wasn’t entirely his fault though, as communication went both ways. There were countless times over the year where you had wanted to call him, text him, something. But each and every time the thought had entered your mind you turned to the comfort of alcohol or a warm body instead.
Sam sighed, knowing that you were going to say no. But there was a small part of him that had hoped you would say yes, especially because of how close you were. “I had to give it a shot right?” Sam held the phone in his hands as he sat in the War Room, open to one of the pages he had sent you pictures of.
“I know.” You sighed too. You had wanted to go back to the Bunker, it was something that you had been thinking about a lot lately. As much as you loved when Jack sent you pictures of everything that was going on, it also made you sad. “How’s…How is he?” You didn’t have to specify, full well knowing that Sam would know who you meant.
Sam had wanted to lie to you, tell you that Dean was doing okay, but he knew that you would see right through the lie. At the same time, he didn’t want to tell you the truth either. Ever since you and Dean had broken up and you had moved out, he noticed such a huge change in him. When he wasn’t being a recluse hauled up in his room, drowning his pain in his alcohol of choice, he had wanted to work case after case to stay busy.
“You know, Y/N is only a few hours away. Maybe she would –” Sam began to say, but Dean quickly down him down.
“We’re not asking her.” Dean’s voice was hard and cold. “She wouldn’t come anyway.”
“Yeah…I guess you’re right.” Sam sighed, knowing that Dean was right. It had been a few months since you and Dean had broken up. The two of you had made it perfectly clear that you didn’t want to see each other. Well, the two of you had wanted to, but the two of you were too stubborn to admit it. Sam knew, that if you were in trouble or if Dean was in trouble, either of you would drop everything to go and help, despite how things had ended between you two. “I’m gonna call her. Ask if she knows anything about what we’re hunting.” He got up from his chair in the motel room and dialed your number, walking outside of the room.
Dean looked at the pages before him and eyed his phone, sighing quietly to himself. Picking it up he unlocked it with his passcode – your birthday – and stared at the homescreen wallpaper. It was a photo that you had taken of the two of you. You were lying in bed together; both of your hair messy and all over the place. He was kissing you on the cheek and you had the biggest smile on your face. He had no idea why he loved this picture so much but he did. He wished that he could go back to that moment more than anything.
Sam walked back into the room, Dean quickly closing his phone. “What’d she say?”
“She thinks we’re hunting a nuckelavee.” Sam sat down across from his older brother.
“A what?” That was something that Dean had never heard of, and he was pretty sure that Sam had never heard of it either.
“It’s a horse-like demon from Orcadian folklore. Apparently, its breath wilts crops, sickens livestock, is responsible for droughts. Three things that we have seen. But get this, it’s mainly a sea-dwelling creature.” Sam explained.
“So what’s a knocklevee ” Dean began, but Sam quickly interrupted.
“It’s nuckelavee. And, Y/N has a theory about that. A lot of Celtic people settled here in North Carolina. So, she’s thinking that since they brought their culture here –” Dean was the one to interrupt now.
“They brought the creature here with them.” Dean said, and Sam nodded. “Who knew her Celtic Folklore degree would come in handy.”
Sam gave Dean a puzzled look. “I didn’t know she had a Celtic Folklore degree.”
“He’s…He’s Dean.” Was the best thing that Sam could come up with to tell you. It was vague enough, but he also wasn’t lying to you.
“I uh…I gotta go Sam. I have an interview with a professor in about 30 minutes.” You got up from the bed and started making your way toward the motel bathroom. “I’ll call you later once the case is over.” You paused. “Thanks.”
“Bye Y/N. Be careful.” Sam responded, his voice sounding a bit too sad for your liking.
“Always am.” You reassured him before hanging up the phone. You looked at your phones wallpaper, a photo that you had wanted to change, but didn’t have the heart to do it, even though it’s been more than a year since you and Dean had ended things. It was a picture that you had taken while you were lying in bed with him; both of your hair messy from the night before. He was kissing your cheek, and you had the biggest smile on your face. You wished that you could go back to this moment because you remembered how happy you were here.
You woke up to the sounds of beeping and blinding lights; finding yourself squinting. Your mouth was dry, unable to recall the last time you had actually drank something. How long have you been here? Your eyes finally able to adjust to the brightness of the lights, you looked around and noticed that you were in the hospital; unsure of how you had ended up here in first place. The last thing you remembered happening was going to talk to the professor concerning the case that you were working on.
“Hi Professor Keating. I’m Agent Larkin. We talked on the phone.” You had knocked on the professors door, she was sitting at her desk and looked up at you with a soft smile on her face.
“Oh yes!” She quickly closed the book that was currently on her desk and got up from her chair. Walking over to you she held out her hand and you shook it. “You’re earlier than I was expecting.”
You looked down at your watch and noticed that you were about five minutes earlier than you’re scheduled interview time with her. “I can wait outside for a few minutes if need me to. But, I’d prefer not to. You understand that this incident is something that my office isn’t taking lightly.”
“Yes, of course.” The professor walked back over to her desk. “What do you need to know?”
When you turned to face the door to get more of a feel for your surroundings you noticed Dean slumped in the chair with his eyes closed and his arms crossed. You wondered how long he had been here. As if he knew you were looking in his direction he opened his eyes; the two of you making eye contact. He adjusted himself so he was now sitting upright in the chair. “Hey.” Dean said.
“Hey.” You said, unsure of what else to say to the man in front of you. There were in fact, a million different things that you had wanted to say to Dean, and there were a million things you had wanted to do. You had wanted to hug him, kiss him, tell him that you missed him. You felt tears start to well up in your eyes, no longer able to hold the composure that you were trying so hard to have. The last thing you had wanted was to cry in front of Dean. Not that you hadn’t cried in front of him before, but after not seeing each other in over a year, you didn’t want the first interaction between the two of you to be of you crying.
Dean got up from his chair without any kind of hesitation and walked over to the hospital bed. He took your hand – the one that didn’t have an IV stuck in it – and held it. For some reason, you weren’t expecting him to take your hand. Although you haven’t held his hand in over a year, the feeling of it felt like no time had passed, like you had just held it the same day or the day before. “How did you know I was here?” You asked.
“You still had John Bonham as your emergency contact.” You had forgotten that you had put Dean as your number one contact if something were to ever happen to you. You had meant to change it to someone else, but never got the chance to. With everything that had happened over the course of the last year, changing your emergency contact list was honestly the last thing that was on your mind.
“I’m surprised Sam didn’t come instead.” You replied, Dean went back to sitting in the chair that he had just been napping in.
I told him not to.” Dean’s words caught you by surprise. A slightly confused expression must have formed on your face because of the next words Dean had said. “He offered to come in my place. But when I told him no,” he chuckled softly, “I swear he…” He looked at you, almost as if he was in some kind of disbelief. “He had the biggest smile on his face. Haven’t really seen him smile since…” Ever since you had left, the Bunker didn’t feel as warm. Sam, Jack, Cas, and even Dean himself, who despite everything that have gone through always had some kind of smile on their faces whenever you were around. But when you decided to leave, it was as if all the happiness had left the place. Dean hadn’t seen the three of them smile it seemed in almost a year; himself included.
“How long have you been here? Last thing I remember I was interviewing the professor. I don’t know if Sam told you or not.” As much as you had wanted to sit up, because of how awkward it was to be lying down in the position you were in to be talking to Dean, the slight pain that you were currently in was making it a little difficult to actually want to sit up.
“Haven’t been here that long. They called me about four hours ago. Arrived 30 minutes after that.”
Dean was lying in his bed, staring at the empty space next to him. It has been a year since you had slept in that spot next to him, and each and every day he had hoped that he would somehow wake up and you would be there lying next to him. That was one of the things that he had taken for granted while the two of you were together; waking up next to you. Each and every morning he would wake up to the scent of your body wash, that still lingered on your skin from your shower that night. He loved waking up to the smell of warm vanilla and honey; a scent that he thought used to be generic smelling – until he met you.
“I shouldn’t still be missing you.” He said to the empty space. The two of you ending things was one of the worst regrets of his life; and throughout his life, he had his fair share of regrets. So many times he had wanted to take back the things he said to you that night. So many times he had wanted to call you and tell you that he was sorry, that he was the one that was the jerk; not you. Over the course of the year he had forgotten what the argument even was about; but knew that it was probably something ridiculous, something that either of you could have easily gotten over.
His phone started to ring just then, unsure of who could possibly be calling him. Everyone that he had talked to was currently in the Bunker; besides you of course, but he knew for a fact that you wouldn’t be calling him. The number that came up was unknown, but he decided to answer it anyway just in case. He had somehow hoped that maybe you had changed your number and this was you calling. “Hello?” He asked.
“Hi. Is this...John Bonham?” An unfamiliar female voice asked. Definitely not you.
“Yeah, that’s me.” He was hesitant to say anything else.
“This is Nurse Julia from Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas. I was calling in regard to a Joan Larkin.” Nurse Julia had said. For a moment, slight confusion washed over Dean as he didn’t know a Joan Larkin, well he did, that was the real name of Joan Jett; that’s when it clicked – Joan Larkin was you. Only you would have picked that name. “I’m calling because you’re her emergency contact.”
“Yes, she’s my…Is she okay?” He almost called you his girlfriend, something that you hadn’t been for such a long time. He almost slipped.
“Can you come in Mister Bonham? I would prefer not to talk about this over the phone.” Her voice was calm, and it was something that he needed, even though his heart was racing and his brain was coming up with worst case scenarios.
“Yeah. Yeah. I can be there.” He confirmed, before hanging up the phone. He had never put on his boots and grabbed his keys so fast in his life.
You smiled, not surprised that Dean had floored it to get here. You knew that the drive was supposed to be an hour, maybe a little bit more, but Dean had managed to make it a 30-minute drive. “Can’t believe you drove 30 minutes for me.” That’s not why you were impressed, you were impressed that he had driven here at all, given the fact that you two didn’t leave things on the best terms.
“I’d drive 30 hours straight for you.” The words that escaped Dean’s lips not only surprised you, but surprised him. The two of you hadn’t ended things on the best terms, and this was the first interaction that the two of you have had in over a year; only getting bits and pieces of each other’s lives through other people. Some of the information was reliable, some not; but in a weird way, it still felt like you were still in each other’s lives even if you didn’t talk to each other or see each other. He still cared for you, even if at times he couldn’t admit it to himself or other people. Deep down, he had hoped that you still cared about him too, but he wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t.
“The doctor said they would release you tonight. Your injuries weren’t that serious.” Dean said, not really giving you any time to respond to his previous comment. He wasn’t sure if he was protecting himself or you. There was a small part of him, that had wanted to know how you would have responded, but the part of him that won was the part that didn’t want to be rejected by you.
“What did the doctor say?” You asked. You wanted to respond to what he said previously, but he had quickly changed the subject too fast for you to.
“You had slight head trauma, but not a concussion. Not sure how you managed to pull that one off.” When Dean had talked to the doctor, they said that you had suffered a minor brain injury, but it wasn’t bad enough for you to get a concussion, which he was thankful for. Between you and him, you two have suffered plenty of concussions to last a lifetime.
“Brain injuries don’t always involve concussions.” You commented; remembering an article that you had read somewhat recently.
“Thank you Doctor Larkin.” He smirked. “Nice name by the way.”
You couldn’t help but smile. “I learned from the best.” Before you had met the Winchester’s, using a rockstar alias is something that you would have never dreamed of using. Before you had met them, you always used some kind of generic name or a last name related to your childhood, almost as if you were filling out one of those security questions before you were able to log into your bank account. You had used your street name growing up, your favorite teacher’s last name, and even your mothers maiden name. You thought that using those names wouldn’t be as suspicious as using a famous one – like the Winchester’s had been doing for over 15 years.
“Shit.” You looked at Dean, a slight panic stricken look in your eyes. “My…my motel room. I have my case documents in there.”
“Don’t worry about it. I uh, while you were sleeping, I went and grabbed them for you. They’re in Baby along with the rest of your things.” After Dean made sure that you were safe and okay, he had left the hospital and went to your motel after calling Sam to see where you were staying.
Dean went up to the front desk, a slightly balding man was leaning up against the counter reading some kind of magazine that he’s never heard of. “Hey there. I was wondering if you could help me out.” Dean flashed the man a smile. The man looked up from the magazine he was reading; his expression bored.
“Yeah?” His bored expression matched his bored sounding voice.
“My girlfriend is staying at this motel, and I wanted to surprise her. Can you tell me what room she’s staying in? I think she’s here under the name Larkin.” Calling you his girlfriend felt so good sounding coming out of his mouth, it was something that he had missed saying.
“Why don’t you text your girlfriend buddy.” The man placed air quotes around girlfriend.
“Listen, buddy.” Dean reached into his back pocket and pulled out a 20 dollar bill, sliding it in front of the man. “Can you tell me what room she’s in?” The man looked at the 20 in front of him and grabbed it desperately.
“113.” The man replied, placing the 20 in the front pocket of his shirt.
“Thanks. How did you –” You stopped yourself from finishing the sentence. “Never mind. I think I already know.” You were about to ask how Dean had gotten into your room, but you knew how good he was when it came to breaking into rooms that he had no good reason being in. “You said, you said you have the rest of my things?”
He nodded. “Yeah. Everything that I could find that I knew was yours. Still have that same duffel bag uh?” When he saw that you were still carrying that duffel bag around, it had made him smile, because he had missed seeing that bag of yours. He had told you countless times that you had needed a new bag, but you had refused, because the bag had too much sentimental value for you to give up. Seeing this bag of yours, in all of its slightly tattered and stained glory, it had become sentimental for him too.
“You have your baby, I have mine.” You knew that you needed a new one, but you couldn’t part of it. That duffel bad, although tattered and stained, held a lot of sentimental value for you. “When I leave tonight, I’ll take it out of your hands. I have a case to finish.”
“No you don’t Sunshine.” The nickname that he had given you when you first met easily rolled off his tongue. “Sam got it handled. The professor you talked to? She was the big bad. She was the one that knocked you out too.”
You practically threw your head back onto the pillow. “Of course she was.” You didn’t know how you didn’t see it, but thinking back, it was rather obvious. All of the students that had been murdered were hers, she was the last one that had seen them all alive: she was the common denominator. “I feel so stupid.”
“I’ll cut you some slack. You did suffer a brain injury.” He grinned, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Well, I’ll still take my things back from you.” You saw his face drop slightly at your comment. You cocked your head, furrowing your brow. “What?”
“Would you…would you want to come back?” He was hesitant to ask.
“Come back where? The Bunker?” You asked, almost in disbelief that he would even ask. “Dean I don’t think –”
“Y/N, I want you to come back.” Yet another sentence that had surprised you. “The Bunker hasn’t been the same without you. I…I haven’t been the same without you.” His words started to crush you; you were speechless. You didn’t realize what kind of impact that you had had when you left. You knew that Jack, Cas, and Sam were going to miss you, they always told you how much they missed you and you did the same. They were like family to you, and you hated to leave your family. But you did what you thought was best, and clearly, that was a mistake. “I’m not blaming you. I’m, I’m blaming myself.”
“Dean, please don’t blame yourself.” There truly was no reason for him to blame himself, because you too were at fault. “We both said things that we probably shouldn’t have said to each other.” You sighed. “To be honest, I can’t even remember what the argument was even about. But I know it was something that we both should have gotten over.”
“To be honest, I can’t remember what the argument was about either. I just know it was about something stupid.” He got up from his chair, reaching into his front pocket and pulling out his phone, handing it to you.
“Why are you giving me your phone?” You were confused.
“Unlock it.” His response simple.
“Dean I don’t know your –”
“I never changed it.” With that, you typed in your birthday and his phone unlocked to reveal his wallpaper: it was the same photo of the two of you that was the wallpaper on yours.
“Dean…” You felt your eyes well up with tears again; Dean leaned down and kissed you on the top of your head. You didn’t realize how much you had missed the top of his head kisses. While you were with him, it was something that you had taken for granted because it was something he did all the time.
“Come back home.” Dean said; three words that he had wanted to tell you the second you walked out the doors of the Bunker over a year ago.
“Permanently?” You asked.
“Permanently.” He confirmed.

Don't Go || Aaron Hotchner
Summary: Request - Reader is head over heels for Hotch but always assumes he doesn’t feel the same way. It’s around s7 and he gets together with Hotch and she withdraws over time. When Emily says goodbye she tells reader she is always welcome with her in London if she needs to leave, and after another couple months she takes Emily up on the offer.... Read Rest Here
A/N: Love this guy. Thank you for the request. Loved writing this one!
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Y/N
Word Count: 3.1k+
Six Months Prior
“You know, I’m just a phone call away. I’d be happy to hire you as an agent.” You nodded at your best friends words. It didn’t seem possible that you’d ever accept the offer, but you couldn’t deny her either. Not right away at least.
“I’ll think about it Em.” Hugging her tightly you stifled the small cry that wanted to come out. She’d become a best friend to you over the years. The one true person you could trust through and through entirely The one who knew you better than you knew yourself.
She knew all about you crush on Hotch and how you’d never do anything about it. She tried for years after Haley’s death to get you to do something. You never did. He never did. It wasn’t meant to be.
She hugged you back squeezing you tightly into her embrace, “Please do. I’m being serious. Just a phone call away.” Her smile looked sad as she took one last look at you before getting into the security line.
You pulled away nodding at your friend, “Good luck Em. Call me when you land.”
She squeezed your hand once more. A gesture of love you’d grown to care for over the years, “Thanks for driving me. I’ll call you the second the plane lands.” She waved as you walked back to the garage. Man, you sure did hate goodbyes. You knew you’d see her soon but it still hurt.
You watched as she walked off into the airport. It certainly wouldn’t be the last time you’d see her, but it sure did suck you wouldn’t get to see her every day. But it was good for her. A promotion she desired. Maybe you would think of her offer. Maybe, just maybe. You took a mental image of Emily as she waved once more before disappearing.
Present Day
Maybe you weren’t supposed to hear it. But when you walked by Hotch’s office to drop off some files and Derek was already there you had to listen in. Had to, how could you not? But you’d regretted it the second you heard it, “My girlfriend and I went there this weekend.” His voice, your bosses voice, spoke through the doorway.
You heart sunk but Derek’s apparently soared. He hooted and clapped his bosses shoulder, “You did it? You asked Beth out?”
He nodded. You took a step back making sure you weren’t seen. Clutching the files to your chest you kept listening in, “Yeah. A few weeks ago. It’s been good. Jack seems to really like her.”
Damn. That was it then. Your chance was gone and over. You were the fool though. He’d given you years to make a move. You leaned back on the wall paralyzed. Knock on the door? Walked away? Keep listening to the horror show?
Paralysis won, “I’m happy for you Hotch.”
He hesitated. What did that mean? You took a step backwards before hearing him once more, “Me too. She different. Calm job that she loves. Relaxed all the time.” Everything you weren’t it felt like. Ouch.
Walking back down to your desk you checked the time on your computer. Nine in the morning, which meant that Emily was probably still working. You pulled your phone out of you back pocket sitting down in the office chair. Maybe it was time for a change. Nothing was happening for you here. Hotch was happy with somebody else. Not even the smiles and simple conversations between the two of you enough to satisfy. You’d harbored a stupid little crush that he never seemed to reciprocate. He didn’t hate the attention you gave him, no. He loved it dearly. He didn’t know much he loved it. Not until you began to withdraw from him.
It was the small things at first. Instead of looking at him when he spoke you kept your eyes on the case file or to the person beside you. You decided that smiling at him was no longer an option either. So, when you continued smiling at everybody in the office except for him it started to drive him crazy. Your smile actually dropped when you noticed he walked into the room. You stood up straighter in your chair and sucked in a breath. What in the hell was happening with you?
You were still kind. Still nodded in acknowledgement. Still recognized him as your boss and your boss only. You had to do this, for yourself. Had to break away. Start something new. This life was quickly becoming toxic.
It’d taken you months to find the courage to ask Emily for a transfer. But after you’d heard Hotch gushing about Beth once more it was the last straw for you. You didn’t want to hear about Beth and how fun she was. You didn’t want to hear about any of it. It wasn’t your place to tell him to cool it on her, so you had to do what you needed to do. Transfer to London.
Your knees bounced up and down in the smaller conference room you’d reserved to talk with Emily. You gulped when you heard her pick up from the other side on the line, “Y/N. How are you?” She asked you.
“I’m okay Em.” You let out a silent breath
She paused for a moment, “What’s up?” She knew you. Knew you deeply. Something was bugging you.
Might as well just spit it out, “I thought about your offer. Interpol.”
“Oh?” She sounded genuinely surprised that came out of your mouth. Such a homebody wouldn’t have ever dared to make this kind of decision.
“If you were being serious that is.” You wanted to clarify quickly. Maybe even she didn’t want or need you.
She nodded, but you couldn’t see it, “Of course I was! Absolutely yes. Let me just call Hotch and put the transfer in.”
You let out a breath, “I haven’t told him.”
“Why not?” She asked more as a friend rather than a future boss. How interesting all of that was going to be.
“I don’t know.”
She wouldn’t let you get away with that answer though, you knew that much, “Yes you do.”
You looked around the small conference room seeing all notes scribbled around. Looking ahead you watched as your coworkers walked around smiling and chatting with each other. You saw as Aaron looked around, maybe for you, maybe for somebody else. Your heart clenched when you looked back down at your phone, “He has a new girlfriend Emily. He’s head over heels for her.” You chewed on your already worn-down fingernails waiting for her response. A nasty habit you’d never been able to break in all your years.
“Oh sweetheart.” You heard her sigh from the other end of the phone, “Are you sure about this? Transferring? I don’t want you to feel like you’re running from your problems.” That’s what you’d admired most about Em.
You sat back down at your desk and waited. Waited for God knows how long. He didn’t call you into his office that day. Nor the next. It had been when you had gotten back from a case down in Miami that he asked you to stay behind on the jet for a moment. Nobody thought anything of it, but you knew. You knew exactly why he asked you to stay behind.
“A transfer?” His voice low once Spencer was out of earshot and down the stairs.
You couldn’t bear to look at him, so you just looked straight ahead, “Yeah.” You stated. Plain and simple. What else did you really have to say.
“Why?” He asked walking in front of you. He needed to know. More than ever, he craved to know what in the hell was happening with you. He’d adored you from afar for so long. The loving smile you always wore. The overly optimistic attitude often rubbed off on him. But it was fading. Fading so fast into the night that when Emily called he wasn’t surprised. Just hurt. Hurt that you wouldn’t have told him. And hurt that you wanted to leave him.
“I need a change.” It wasn’t a lie. You did need a change. You couldn’t just pine for your boss who was in love with another woman from afar. No, that was far too embarrassing. And exhausting. You had to go.
His eyes roamed your face for any tell. You were stoic as ever though. Hiding the waves of crashing emotions behind a big ass wall you’d never let come crumbling down. Shields that guarded your mind.
“You can find change here.” He started.
Shaking your head quickly you rebuked him, “I can’t. I’m stagnant. Tired. I can’t do this anymore.” You motioned your hand out to him before grabbing it back in towards your body.
“Can’t do what?” His eyes glazed over in curiosity as he studied you further. Trying to understand the person he thought he knew. Turns out he hadn’t a clue.
Your eyes narrowed. You weren’t actually going to tell him. Might as well keep him tapdancing on his toes, “This. I’m going crazy Hotch. I have to leave. Move on. Start a life.”
“What are you talking about Y/N?” He was either playing stupid or he genuinely hadn’t the faintest idea how you felt about him and that might’ve hurt worse.
You let out a little laugh, smiling because fuck it, might as well lay it all out for him clear as day. Something you never thought you’d have to do for a profiler. Leave it to Aaron Hotchner to act like a man in this situation, “I’ve been working with you for what? Five years now Hotch? I’ve been through a lot with you. You’ve seen me at my worst, and I’ve seen you at your lowest.” You sighed knowing you were just rambling now. Might as well rip the Band-Aid off, “I like you Hotch. Way more than an employee should. More than a friend should. I’ve liked you for so long and I’ve been too much of a coward to move on. So, I’m finally doing something for me. I can’t watch you fall in love Hotch. I just, I can’t. And I’m sorry. I’m weak.” You spilled out.
He shook his head reaching out. You took a step back involuntarily. Your brain reminding you that he had a girlfriend, “You’re not weak Y/N.” He frowned seeing you take a step back. You liked him? Had he never noticed? Had he never thought about it? Had he always seen you as just a friend?
You let out a full-on laugh, “I tell you I like you and that’s your response?”
He looked over your features for what felt like the first time. You were beautiful. Breathtaking even. He never let himself look at his coworkers like that. Things never turned out good when they did. Then you walked him. He knew how stunning you were. Then you were the kindest person he’d met on top of that? He was sure to be a sucker for you. But he blocked those thoughts out fast. He’d just have to enjoy your friendship. That was all. Plus, you were so much younger than him. Had so much more to look towards.
Through the years your smile never faltered. Not when Haley had been killed and he broke down right in front of you. Not when he needed it most. You were there and held him in your arms for hours whispering encouragement to the man. You were always there for him. Always there when he didn’t need you but wanted you to be there. You were always there, in the best way. You’d integrated yourself so seamlessly within his life he couldn’t stand the thought of losing you. That was when he knew he’d fucked up. He’d fucked up with Beth by leading her on for so long. He didn’t want her. He wanted you. Who gave a damn about your age when you wanted him. When you initiated the charge. All bets were off now.
He'd always wanted you but tried to deny it. He hid it away in a locked-up box in the back corner of his brain, “Don’t go Y/N.”
You shook your head tears rushing to the forefront of your eyes, “You can’t do that Hotch. Not now. You have Beth. I have to go.”
He shook his head taking a step forward to match your backwards one, “You don’t have to go. Please. Let’s just talk. Take a seat.” He wanted to punch himself for being so formal with you like he always had. If he was going to try and break down that mental shield you put up being a stiff board certainly wouldn’t help.
You cocked your head to the side unsure of what you’d heard. You thought this was going to be quick and that was certainly not turning out to be the case here, “Okay.” You thought you’d owed him that. You were close not that long ago. That ended when Beth crept into his life taking hold of the crevices of his mind you’d used to hold so closely. How had he not even noticed? How was he this fucking blind?
He leaned forward once he sat on the couch at the back of the jet next to you, not daring to go back to the seat he was previously sitting in. He needed to be closer to you, “Don’t go.”
“Aaron.” You closed your eyes unsure of what to do. Certainly, unsure of what to say.
He shook his head, “Please. I… I can’t let you go.” His voice wavered as his own watery eyes looked onto yours. Damn. Your heart sped up at the sight feeling things you really shouldn’t have at that admission.
You squeezed your eyes shut, “Why?” You needed to know.
When he didn’t answer you opened your eyes. He was just looking at you. Carmel eyes tracing over every feature on your face. He smiled slightly when your eyes met his. You felt the blazing blush rise across your face as he kept studying you so obviously. The tension in the air grew thicker with every passing second of silence. As if he knew you couldn’t take it anymore he finally answered you, “I’m an idiot. I don’t want her Y/N. I want you. I may not have always known it but now that I do, it’s supposed to be you.”
You shook your head quickly in utter disbelief, “Don’t say that. You have Beth. You have a life here.”
His eyes grew serious as he scooted closer to you. His knees brushed yours as he leaned forward once more, “I need you to hear me right now. I don’t want her. I want you. Just… just let me clean this up.” He pleaded taking one of your hands in his. He knew he was onto something when you didn’t pull away from him.
“Aaron…”
He cut you off, “Please, just don’t go. Please. Let me fix this.” Every part of him begged you. The most emotion you’d seen since Haley had passed. It sent shivers down your spine as you thought about it. He was being vulnerable with you.
You swallowed unsure of what the fuck to do now. This was certainly not on your short list of items that could possibly have happened to you when you did this. Aaron Hotchner begging you not to go? Impossible. Yet here you were with his hands in yours and pleading eyes.
When you didn’t answer he continued, “Please. Don’t go.” He took your other hand in his. He too had to make a scary confession just like you had moments prior, “I may have been too blind to see it before but sweetheart I… I like you too. And I’ve been missing you. You’ve been here but you haven’t been present. You have been with everybody else but me. I don’t want a life without you in it. So please, please don’t go.” He would ask a million more times if that’s what it took. He’d do anything you asked. Go anywhere you wanted. Be anything you needed really. He always knew it was you. He was just playing by the rules for too long. You’d snapped him right out of that though. He couldn’t actually let you go to London. No way in hell. He’d normally do anything for his employees, but he couldn’t let you go. He’d find you a better job here if that’d what it meant for you to stay.
You gave in. You weren’t thinking right with his big hands covering yours so easily. A steady rub from his palm sent shivers up your arm sending your mind into a frenzy. A moment you were so scared for turned so intimate.
You nodded your head mumbling out a soft, “Okay.” Before being brave and turning your eyes up to his big brown ones.
The relief that washed over him at that was evident. He threw his head back in relief. A big smile crossed his face when he came back to looking at you, “Really?” He asked, not believing it himself.
“Yeah. You have good puppy dog eyes Hotch.”
He shook his head scooting you closer to him, “Call me Aaron, sweetheart.” You heart sped up once your legs tangled with his. Two oblivious idiots soon to be in love trying it for the first time together. Awkwardness and all you soaked it in. His touch. His smell. His presence with you right there on the jet.
“Alright, Aaron.”
He smiled that gorgeous smile you’d grown to love but never saw often enough. Rarely that smile would make its presence and when it did it blew you away. You smiled right back at him as looked you over once more, “Let me drive you home.”
“What about my car?” You asked the most obvious question it felt dumb coming out.
He shrugged, “I’ll pick you up before work tomorrow. No worries.”
You didn’t want to oblige but you really wanted the alone time, “If you’re sure.”
His smile only grew. He stood up and pulled you up right with him, “I’m positive. Now, let’s get you home.” He didn’t drop your hand as he led you down the stairs and over to the parking lot not that far from the air strip. Your smile didn’t falter as he led the way so utterly sure he’d made the right decision, finally.

Ooooo I fucking love the Tokyo Revengers characters with a S/O who takes a knife for them. Can I ask the same for Kisaki, Hanma, and Taiju? :D
Yep, here are how these three would probably react to you taking a knife for them!
Kisaki
Freezes, staring at you with an unsure expression. He hasn't had a problem with people taking blows for him before but this feels different, you're different.
Snaps into action soon after though, immediately giving instructions to those around him. Telling some of his men to take care of the guy, another to call an ambulance and telling Hanma stand watch over you in case of another attack.
Isn't really sure what he's doing when he crouches next to you and tries to stop the bleeding from your wound. Reading about it and actually doing it are two very different things.
Spends a lot of time looking at your face for reactions, trying to figure out if he's hurting you or not.
Doesn't say anything in the ambulance but holds your hand the whole ride, occasionally encouragingly squeezing it.
While in the waiting room he sits staring at the clock while tapping his foot impatiently. Get's a bit irritated at the doctors and wants to know what's taking them so long.
Also sends Hanma away to go buy a bunch of flowers and other gifts
Practically runs to your room when he hears you're awake. Stops himself before entering though and walks in calmly. It's clear from the way he talks that he's worried but happy you're awake though.
Tells you to never get involved in a fight again, he can't bear to lose you.
He's about to say something else when Hanma enters with basically a whole giftshop and smothers the two of you into a "group hug"!
Hanma
"What the hell?" He's always seen fights as something fun, so why is this happening? His brain almost can't compute it at first.
Laughs such a loud but chilling laugh that it makes everyone around you both shudder. After he immediately punches the guy twice, making sure he won't get up anytime soon. His signature grin is missing as he hits him though.
"Hey, hey come on sweetheart open your eyes" he nudges you as he asks you to wake up for him.
Trusts himself to save you more then the ambulance so he doesn't hesitate to scoop you up and head towards the hospital as fast as he can.
Yells as loud as he can once he gets there, sounding uncharacteristically vulnerable as he pleads for help.
Doesn't actually stay in the waiting room but instead wanders around the hospital, it's his way to try and keep himself occupied instead of focusing on what could be happening to you.
He's in your room when you wake up despite not being called, he must've sneaken in.
Lightly jokes with you, asking you what took so long and if you had a long enough nap. Before burying you in a tight hug.
Taiju
One minute the guy was stabbing you and the next he was unconscious and bleeding profusely. No one had ever seen Taiju move that fast and swiftly before.
Taiju doesn't care about finishing the guy off, he can always track him down later. Instead he's focused completely on you.
Asks you to look at him, even calling you by his favourite pet name for you, something he hardly ever does in public.
Curses when you stay unconscious and when he sees just how much blood there is. Takes a moment to contemplate calling an ambulance or taking you himself. Eventually settles on taking you, nothing bad will happen to you while you're cradled in his arms, he swears it.
Talks to you the whole way, saying you better live and that you're not allowed to die and leave him.
When he gets there he yells at the hospital staff, demanding help for you. Which he very quickly gets.
Paces around the waiting room, trying to not get too worked up. Also calls his siblings to fill them in on what happened (he just wanted some reassurance from them that it'll be ok).
Nearly breaks the door to your room down when he hears you're awake. He's a bit too eager to see you.
Tells you that he doesn't need you to take knives for him, he can handle himself. "But you, you're too delicate for this. Don't you dare get hurt again, you're too important". He sounds a bit harsh as he says it but the words themselves are very sweet.

okay NOWWWW we need to see Wilbur’s proposal! i know a lot of people have written about how he’d have this big proposal in front of everyone at a lovejoy concert but I personally think that it would be more intimate and well thought out. he’d subtly be dropping hints like asking you to get your nails done, wearing your nicest dress for dinner. after dinner he’d take you back to the beach that you guys go to all the time to watch the sunset. he’s been visibly nervous all week, but more so tonight. his plans are sweaty, he’s constantly checking his pocket (probably to make sure that he hasn’t lost the ring lmao) but your blissfully unaware as always. he asks you to go to the car to see if his wallet is there (it’s not) and when your come back he’s DOWN ON ONE FRIGGIN KNEE.
Wilbur Proposing To You!
Wilbur Soot x Female Reader
Warnings: Tooth-rotting fluff with one teeny little suggestive line at the end!
Vaguely a prequel to this post about planning a wedding with Wilbur!
OMG ANON IM CRYING SCREAMING THROWING UP I NEED HIM I WANT THIS TO BE ME so i’ll just write it teehee
Headcannons below cut!
~He’d be so nervous, planning it out for weeks.
~Knows you don’t want a massive spectacle, so decides against doing it at a gig.
~Asks Molly to invite you on a nail salon & coffee outing the day before, hoping her ‘idea’ would make you less suspicious.
~”Baby, you should wear that pretty dress I got you last Christmas for dinner tonight. You haven’t worn it in ages, and it looks stunning on you.”
~Hopes you can’t see how nervous he’s been for this proposal, or even all week.
~The plan is a beach walk after dinner, Wilbur planning to pop the question when you reach a secluded spot on the beach.
~Dinner passes without a hitch, the two of you still giggling and flirting like the first date all over again.
~If Wilbur didn’t know it before, he knew now just how much he loved you.
~He loved you so much that he almost teared up, looking at your gorgeous face as you smiled at him and squeezed his hand over the table.
~You two alternate who pays when you go out, and this time, it’s your turn, something Wilbur’s using as part of his proposal plan.
~”Since you payed for dinner, I’ll pay for ice cream from that booth if you want some?” He offers casually, and you nod happily.
~Wilbur pats his pockets. “That is, if you get my wallet? I think I left it in the car.”
~You laugh, kissing him on the cheek and teasing him about being scatterbrained before headed to the car.
~For what must be the thousandth time that night, he checks for the ring box.
~Still there. Just like the previous 999 times he checked.
~”Will, your wallet wasn’t in the ca-“
~He’s down on one knee, diamond glinting in the silk box in the evening air.
~”Will you make me the happiest man alive and ma-“
~Can’t even get the words out before you frantically nod, wrapping him in a tight hug and practically kissing his lips off.
~”You asked Molly to take me for nails for this, I can tell,” you tease, admiring the gorgeous ring on your finger.
~You two head back home for a cozy night in, the only thing on is the radio.

ACOSM | The Night they joined the Bloodrite
azriel x rhysand's sister (oc)
warnings: angst, mentions of abuse and violence
summary: Valeria bids farewell to Rhys, Cass and Az as they are to particpate in the bloodrite, hoping they all return to her.
A/N: this is an imagine among my collection of imagines that follow Rhysand's sister, Valeria. while I'm still working on them, you can find the masterlist for it here. I couldn't help myself and post this imagine today. As promised, things are about to get angsty and sad. There will also be more explanations to what unfolds here in the upcoming imagines.
**
The day had arrived when the men in her life, her closest and dearest, prepared for their participation in the upcoming Bloodrite. A formidable Illyrian tradition that tested their strength and valor. It was such a pivotal time for Illyrian males of age, so much that the High Lord of the Night Court graced Windhaven with his regal presence to bid his son and heir luck and farewell.
However, for Valeria, the sight struck a chord of envy. Her father made sure to show up and extend his support to Rhysand but he had failed to do the same for her birthday dinner just last week.
Lady Yvaine, standing by Valeria’s side, sensed her daughter’s emotions and offered a comforting squeeze before letting it go. The three of them had stopped by Windhaven’s tents in the training grounds of the camp, where all Illyrian males participating in the bloodrite would spend the night before being winnowed to the guarded Ramiel, Illyria's sacred mountain.
The morning sun cast a golden hue over the training grounds as Valeria stood among her brother and his closest friends—Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel. The air was tense with a mix of excitement, anticipation, and underlying worry. She stared at all three of them. Sensing her distress, Noctis, perched on her shoulder as always, tenderly nuzzled his small head against her neck in a sweet caress.
“Please come back to me.” Valeria said, her voice carrying an almost desperate plea. “All three of you.”
Cassian grinned, his usual bravado shining through. "You know us, Val. We'll make sure to come back in one piece and be victorious."
Cassian had come prepared to say his farewells to Valeria. Since he knew his charming grin and words would not be enough to ease her anxiety, he pulled something out of his small satchel. Valeria’s eyes landed on the book...a gift for her.
“I meant to give this to you for your birthday but knowing you, you would’ve finished it by now.”
Valeria stared down at the book in her hands. The title hinted at a romance novel but a subtle gesture from him hinted that there was more beneath the cover. She discreetly peeled the cover off to reveal a book on Illyrian training and fighting. Her heart swelled at his gesture. Cassian had always been encouraging to her interest for training and fighting.
A note on the first page bore a handwritten message: For my little warrior, may the wind always guide your wings.
Valeria chuckled as her gaze fell to the bottom of the page where another message was written: P.S. please don’t cause any chaos while we’re gone. You know I have a great fear of missing out on the fun.
“Think of this as your homework while I’m gone. I want you to read it”--Sensing the determination in Valeria, he decided to add–”at a steady pace and when I return, I want you to show me what you have learned.”
Valeria nodded appreciatively. “I’ll do just that. Thank you, Cas.”
She proceeded to envelop Cassian in a warm, tight hug. He chuckled lightly as Noctis emitted a small squawk, momentarily caught off guard by the strong embrace, before adjusting himself.
“I didn’t know you enjoyed romance novels so much.” Rhysand quipped, noticing the faint smile on Valeria’s face.
“Only the ones Tanwyn recommends.” Valeria quickly hid the truth of the book's content from her brother, who wouldn't have approved of such reading material, especially not when their father was around.
Valeria tried her best to hide her worry as she looked at her brother. She knew he was capable–they all were. Yet she was unable to shake off the fear that gnawed at her heart. So many what ifs plagued her thoughts. Sensing her worry and anxiety, Rhysand stepped forward as Cassian excused himself to say his farewells with their mother, who was currently hugging Azriel.
Rhysand, though masked with confidence, showed a flicker of vulnerability in his eyes. "We'll be back before you know it." He assured her.
He pulled her into a tight hug, being careful as to not hurt the bird that was perched on top of her shoulders as Cassian did moments ago. That damn bird, he couldn’t help but think, a mix of annoyance and strange fondness swirling within him.
“I love you, Val.”
“I love you too, Rhys.” Valeria replied, squeezing her brother’s hands. Her gaze lingered on him for a moment, as if engraving the image of her older brother into her mind. Stop, she told herself. Your brother will come back. They all will.
I promise, Rhysand whispered into her mind.
She had been so consumed in her thoughts that her mental shields wavered, allowing him to enter with ease. He then projected an image of his arm, that was currently concealed by his leathers. Intricate black swirls etched themselves into the form of a mountain with three stars above its peak.
Valeria felt a tingling sensation on her own arm, mirroring the pattern of black ink Rhysand showed her. A bargain tattoo. A mountain with three stars–Ramiel–a promise of his definite return, bringing a small sense of ease to her.
Rhysand gently withdrew, shifting his attention to Noctis. “Keep her safe for me, Noctis.”
Noctis responded with a strong chirp, bowing his head and extending his wings in promise. Rhysand felt a sense of gratitude toward the bird. Something he'd never thought he'd feel toward the small creature whose chirping often got on his nerves. Pressing a brief kiss to his sister’s forehead and a pet to Noctis’s head, Rhysand went to join Cassian and say his farewells to their parents.
Azriel seized the moment to bid his farewell to Valeria. Noctis let out a chirp as he spread his wings and flew to Azriel, finding temporary shelter on the Shadowsinger’s shoulders. Azriel’s shadows greeted the bird as a dear friend, embracing Noctis with their gentle tendrils of darkness.
“I don’t know who will miss you more. Me or Noctis.” Valeria mused with a soft smile on her lips.
Azriel chuckled as he stepped forward, bridging the space between them. There was so much he wanted to say to Valeria, but he knew he had to be careful with his words.
His shadows, now displaying a playful dance of joy over his shoulders, redirected their attention from Noctis to Valeria. They caressed her cheek tenderly and then her neck. Azriel’s eyes followed their every movement, pausing at the necklace she wore. It was the necklace Azriel gifted her on her birthday. An elegant silver piece that beheld a mesmerizing moonstone, which was delicately cradled within a silver frame shaped like a crescent moon.
Valeria’s heart quickened its pace as Azriel, with a tenderness that spoke volumes, brushed against the moonstone wrapped around her neck.
A faint smile graced his lips, a rush of warmth filling him, at the sight of her wearing his gift. The moonstone with its ethereal, milky hue, captured and reflected the light in a way that reminded him of her own unique powers.
For a fleeting moment, he thought he saw a delicate coil–a fine thread of gold and silver–radiate from the necklace. It vanished as swiftly as it had appeared, disappearing within the blink of an eye.
"I'll wear it every day, waiting for your return," Valeria assured him.
"Only until I return?" Azriel teased, a playful glint in his eyes.
"You know what I mean," Valeria replied, her cheeks flushing with warmth.
"Hmm," Azriel hummed, his touch lingering as he softly grazed from her neck to her cheek, mirroring the caress of his shadows. His breath caught as her free hand sought his free hand, her thumb gently tracing soothing circles on the back of his scarred hand.
“I’ll be waiting for you, Az.” Valeria said softly, her violet eyes looking up at him with a depth he had never seen before. He had never been this close to her. He could appreciate the details in her violet irises he hadn’t noticed before. They were a delicate kaleidoscope of purple and blue hues, swirling like a myriad of galaxies within a vast universe.
A universe he desperately yearned to explore and unravel.
A surge of emotion washed over Azriel, a longing to express what had been growing inside him for so long. He wanted to kiss her, to show how much she meant to him. Despite his confidence in his abilities as an Illyrian warrior, a small fear lingered…that this could be his one and only chance to kiss her, to taste her.
He leaned in, his breath fanning her face.
But he hesitated at the very last moment and pulled away, his fingers brushing over her lips instead. An unspoken promise. An assurance that he would kiss her. But at a different time.
Perhaps, upon his triumphant return from the bloodrite.
“And I'll be sure to return to you, Val.” He finally managed to say, gently removing his hand from her face.
The weight of the unspoken hung in the air and all of his shadows returned to him, displaying disappointment and seeming to chastise him for his shyness. Even Noctis seemed to shoot him a look as he returned to Valeria’s shoulder.
Valeria, too, felt a flicker of disappointment as she reluctantly increased the distance between them, her grip loosening on his hand.
She turned her gaze with worry and anxiety, wondering if anyone had seen them. However, a sense of relief washed over her as she realized Cassian and Rhysand were still engrossed in conversation with her parents, oblivious to what had just happened between Azriel and herself.
She didn’t even know what to call it herself, but surely, he was about to kiss her right? She quickly strengthened her mental shields at the thought.
The two walked over to the group to say their final goodbyes. Lady Yvaine pulled Valeria into her side, wrapping an arm around her daughter’s shoulder. Unknowing to Valeria or Azriel, her mother had noticed their close embrace and provided a distraction for them to have their moment.
With a heavy heart, Valeria watched as the three men she treasured the most departed. She stood there, the weight of their absence already felt in her heart and the unknown outcomes weighing heavily on her mind...
**
The crisp air kissed Valeria's cheeks as she glided gracefully across the frozen lake, her skates leaving imprints on the ice. Mallory, her friend, was her companion on this chilly afternoon. Noctis watched with interest from on top of a tree branch as the girls danced around one another. It wouldn’t be long before their cherished frozen lake would thin and eventually melt as spring was already vastly approaching.
Despite the sun shining down on them, Valeria felt a sudden shiver racing down her spine. Windhaven’s winds were always chilling and unforgiving when present. Mallory, noticing her friend's discomfort, swiftly unwound the large gray shawl from her shoulders and offered it to Valeria.
"Here, take this. It'll keep you warm," Mallory insisted, a warm and caring smile gracing her lips.
Valeria protested, not wanting to trouble her friend, but Mallory persisted. "It makes your eyes pop out even more," she chuckled, draping the shawl around her friend’s shoulder, using any excuse to keep Valeria from protesting further.
“They’ll be fine, Val.” Mallory said, sensing that there was still an unease in Valeria. She was well aware that tonight was the eve before the cruel initiation of the annual bloodrite. “They’ll be back before you know it.”
Valeria smiled at her friend, grateful for the reassurance but her smile faltered as her gaze fell upon Mallory's bare neck. Bruises littered her neck.
“Mal–” She began.
Mallory’s eyes widened in realization, suddenly feeling small under her friend's worried gaze. “It’s nothing–”
“Nothing?” Valeria replied, incredulously.
This wasn’t the first time she had witnessed bruises and injuries on her dear friend. It brought her immense sadness to see her friend suffer at the hands of her abusive father. She had offered for Mallory to stay and live at her house but every time, Mallory refused, knowing the depths her father would go to get her back.
“Shit,” Mallory let out a frustrated curse as she spared a glance to her watch. “I’m sorry, I have to go. I promised I’d be home well before sundown.”
“Do you want me to walk you?” Valeria said, concerned laced in her tone.
“No.” Mallory shook her head, a hint of worry in her brown eyes. “It’ll only make things worse.”
“I’ll see you in two days?” Valeria suggested. “I can bring the jewelry box you left at my house from my birthday then.”
“Yeah,” Mallory replied with a grateful smile. “I’ll see you in two days.”
They exchanged a hug. Valeria was unable to shake off her concern for her friend, her mind already racing with new ideas on how she could help Mallory in her situation. She was lost in thought, preoccupied with finding solutions, that she didn’t notice the discreet note Mallory slipped into the gray shawl she wore.
**
Two days later, Valeria found herself at the cherished frozen lake. The snow was melting under the sun’s warmth. She knelt down beside the lake and applied pressure to the thinning ice. A sharp cracking sound filled the air and before she could react, the ice gave way beneath her hand. She let out a startled yelp as her hand plunged into the cold embrace of the lake.
In her moment of panic, Noctis sprang into action, flying from her shoulder and desperately pecking at the back of her coat in a frantic attempt to pull her away from the cold water.
Frowning, she felt the weight of disappointment settle in her heart as she stared at the now broken patch of the once-frozen lake. The lake was not safe to skate in anymore. She cradled her trembling hand to her chest.
The minutes ticked by, and Valeria chose to wait for Mallory, contemplating how her friend would take the news about the lake.
But Mallory never came.
**
The next morning Valeria set out to find Mallory.
She was worried about her friend. The last time Mallory had failed to meet her at the lake was when she fell sick with the flu and Valeria couldn’t shake off the foreboding feeling that something might be terribly wrong, especially after seeing those bruises. It had been awhile since she last saw her friend hurt by the hands of her father and she wondered if Mallory had just gotten better hiding her injuries.
Her destination was the quaint little shop where Mallory's family worked. However, what she encountered there shattered any chance of morning calm and relief.
A wicked grin adorned a man's face. He stood behind the counter, where Mallory usually did, his eyes cruel and devoid of light. It was Mallory's father.
“Hello,” Valeria greeted warily, trying to peek out from behind his shoulders. She hoped to see the silhouette of her friend from behind the beaded curtains. Noctis did the same. “Is Mal here?”
“No,” came the curt reply.
Unease settled within Valeria as she pressed on, trying to remain polite. “Could you please let her know I came looking for her?”
“Don’t bother.” He sneered.
Valeria furrowed her brows together, causing Mallory’s father to laugh. It cut through the air, a cruel sound that sent shivers down her spine.
“Sweet ol’ Mal decided to partake in this year’s Bloodrite.”
Valeria felt her breath catch in her throat, her heart sinking like an anchor. A mixture of worry, confusion, and disbelief swirled within her. The revelation hit her like a sudden gust of icy wind, leaving her breathless and reeling.
She could feel it–the all too familiar overwhelming prickling sensation that ignited in her bones. Her powers. They surged through her, awakened by the storm of emotions raging within. The necklace adorning her neck began to shimmer, recognizing and resonating with her abilities. She contemplated finally putting her powers to use, yearning to harness them as they wished.
But the consequences of losing control in Windhaven were far too great. She had to leave. Now.
Her hands curled into fists at her sides, the silver glow barely contained within them. She turned away from Mallory’s father and ran. Noctis followed, flying over her head and managing to keep up with her despite his undersized wing. She ran and ran until the taunting echoes of Mallory’s father’s laughter faded into the distance, until she could no longer hear the cruel words that echoed in her mind.
But new words came forward, replacing Mallory's father's. They were the words Rhysand had said to her when she had asked about females participating in the bloodrite:
“It’s a cruel way for fathers to punish their daughters, an excuse to slaughter them without getting their hands dirty themselves.”
There were no words to convey the tempest of emotions that continued to rage within her. She fell to her knees, a couple of feet away from the steps to her house.
But the tears wouldn’t come.
All she felt was cold and numb, much like she had when her hand broke through the frozen lake’s surface.
**
A/N: I really liked the idea of Rhysand's mother catching on to the growing bond between Val and Az. Also, there will be more revealed about Mallory in the next imagine.

Saw this today and it has me thinking(more specifically slide 7 and 8)
Business woman x yandere
She has all these ideas for business and charity projects but since she has so many ideas she can find it alittle hard to come up with the driving force for all of them and that’s where yan steps in.
He’ll do anything to impress her so I just imagine his cute little brain coming up with these genius plans of action and showing them to her. I mean he has like 25 step plans and crazy layouts that are beautifully executed to a tea.
He just hope she likes his ideas and when he hands her a blueprint to let’s say some architectural design and she sees how good he did she looks at him and is just like: “Baby you are an absolute GENIUS!” And giving him all the kisses.
He is the muscle force to our desired reality we Stan a creative king 💪
note; honestly give me two people working in harmony! loving this idea of mutual support
warnings; soft hours, subtle yan, fem reader (req), gn reader,
Work has been stressing you out lately. It had all been long hours and hard work, some people would assume that being in the creative field was a piece of cake when in reality it was mentally and socially draining. You had withstood years and years of business deals, negotiations and vigorous planning. Finally, today it had paid off.
You had presented your city plan for the newest district, a mix of walkability and practicality all with green aesthetic surroundings. It had been your dream to change the dreary sight of your home city. You wanted to live here with pride and now... now you had managed to get there. Your childhood vision had been realised and now you were going to see it come true. This was a massive step not only for you but also for the environment. For people...
It was all placated smiles and polite nods until you reached your apartment, the one you would soon be donating because you were moving to the new district. As soon as the door swung shut you couldn't help but squeal in delight. With a rush of energy you launched yourself into your boyfriend's arms and hugged the life out of him.
In your peripheral you could see him grinning as he swung you around joyously. As of a couple years ago he had been by your side, the fuel to your fire. He took care of the technical side of things, planning out deliveries and harder design choices. He scoped streets and plotted roads, chose colours and researched plants. Your eyes slid shut as the first relaxed breath left your mouth and you sunk into him.
"You did it baby." He cooed as he carried you over to the couch. With your head still buried in his neck you shook your head.
"No, we did it." You squeezed your arms around him before letting yourself flop onto the couch. His smile was as bright as the sun as he looked down at you with that cheery look on his face that you loved so much. He was like a real-life golden retriever, always so eager to please and bouncy. He was a great influence actually. On those days where you just wanted to give up and hide away he would always be there to support you.
He hummed as he happily went into the kitchen, his whole body seeming to vibrate with energy. You knew he had been working hard as well, he tried to hide it but not much escaped you. He would work into the night, his computer in front of him as his eyes drooped and his bags darkened. In those moments you knew that he was looking to you for inspiration. When he thought you were sleeping he would whisper about how he would do anything to turn your dream into a reality, how much he wanted you to smile.
He would always kiss you before opening one more city draft, just one more before he would finally give in and sink into your arms. Sometimes you wondered if he knew you were awake in those moments but you also selfishly hoped that you were getting to see a secret side of him. One that you had all for yourself.
"Come on. Wine! We're celebrating." He yipped as he came out of the kitchen, a bottle and two glasses in his hands. You grinned, celebrating with him sounded perfect.

June 4th 1961
Charlie wouldn’t consider himself much of a nature guy, but anything would do if it meant getting out of his parent’s house sooner. He had already been accepted to Columbia in the Fall but he didn’t have enough money to rent an apartment in the city quite yet. Which is how he discovered Adler’s West Lake Resort and Lodge. His counselor said the school looked fondly onto volunteers who worked there in the summer. So Charlie packed everything up and got himself the job. After all how bad could it be? A summer away in the Catskills, free food, free boarding, and a few rowing lessons here and there. He could handle it.
“Alright honey, do you need anything for your drive?” his mother asked from the porch, watching as he loaded his stuff in the back of the station wagon. She tried to pretend that she didn’t notice he had packed everything but a small part of her heart broke. This was truly it.
“I’m fine Mom, I promise” he told her, mind stuck on the five hour drive ahead of him.
“Okay honey, make sure you call and let us know when you get there” and both of them pretended not to notice the small chuckle that left his fathers mouth as he read the paper on the patio furniture.
“I will and you have the address and number to the resort already” Charlie reminded her, jogging up the porch where he quickly towered over his mother’s height. She hated how tall he had gotten, a grown man now, no longer her little boy.
“Be safe and good luck at school” she told him before pulling him into a hug. Charlie squeezed her right back, thankful to at least have a loving mother.
“I will Mom, thank you” he told her and she sighed, fighting back tears that threatened to spill over. Her only child driven away by the harsh expectations of her husband. He had been hurt so much by the world already and the minute he graduates high school he is off and running away from her.
“I’m about to head off, sir” Charlie says as he pulls away from his mom, walking to stand in front of his father.
“Good, you wouldn’t want to hit the afternoon rush traffic outside of the city” his father mutters, hands flipping the page of his newspaper. He felt that he owed nothing to his son. The only things his son had ever done was get himself kicked out of the best school in Vermont and cost him a lot of money pulling strings to still get him in an ivy league school.
“Exactly so thank you sir” Charlie said, holding his hand out and waiting for his father to bid him goodbye. He never cared much about what his father thought of him but he also figured if his father didn’t say some sort of goodbye he would always have control over some aspect of his life.
“Goodbye son, don’t dick around too much. That’s my name you’re tainting when you do that” his father responded, hand sliding into his own and firmly shaking it.
“I’ll do my best sir, I promise” Charlie said before letting his father’s hand go one last time. He was going to use these next four years to his benefit and take the well deserved break he needed. He couldn’t believe he spent all those years at Welton wishing his parents wanted him around more. What a waste.
“I guess we’ll see” is the last thing he says to him before returning his attention to the paper in his hand. Sighing Charlie brushes his hands down the front of his button up shirt and turns back to his Mom with a soft smile.
“Goodbye Mama” he says, swiftly kissing her cheek and the tears finally break through and cascade down her cheeks as Charlie jogs to his car that holds every piece of his belongings. He knew he didn’t need all of it for camp but he also knew his car could act as a private storage locker so he wouldn’t have to come back here before classes started.
“Bye baby, we’ll miss you” she calls out as the car rumbled to life and Charlie waved a hand out as he shifted the car in gear and headed down the long driveway. He knew his father would more than likely not miss him but it was kind that his mother still tried, so he waved his hand out his open window for her until she could no longer see him driving down the road.
The drive was fairly easy. Only two missed turns and one incident with a wrinkled map and Charlie was finally pulling his car up to the main lodge, the sun casted over the large lake beside it. It was quiet since campers wouldn’t be here until next week and Charlie was surprised to feel peace from the quiet and warmth that resonated in the area around him. Killing the engine he stepped out the car and started for the doors, prepared for direction to his cabin for the next three months.
“Hello camper!” a chirpy blonde girl perked up as he pushed through the cabin doors. He briefly wondered if it was an act, to be so excited about not having a real shower and mosquotio bites for three months on end. Yet the bright white smile on her face suggested otherwise.
“Hey” Charlie muttered, not one for too much enthusiasm. Actually he was pretty sure he hadn't been excited about anything since his Junior year of high school.
“Did you just arrive?” she asked, hands reaching for a large book that Charlie figured held all the information on every worker for the entirety of the camp. It's possible the smile could be fake but someone with this much responsibility had to enjoy this life somewhat.
“Yeah, Charles Dalton. I’m a Columbia volunteer, new rowing instructor” he said finally reaching the desk, hands falling and crossing over the top. He just wanted to find a bed and lay in it, especially after that drive.
“Well welcome Charles, let me grab your orientation packet and parking pass” she grinned still as cheerful and Charlie nodded, almost scared by how happy she is.
“Just Charlie is fine” he told her and she nodded before bouncing off and finding all the things he needed to get settled in. After only a few minutes she had a small stack of papers set in front of him.
“Okay so everything you need to know you can find in here. Cabin number, work schedule, map of the resort, and anything else you can imagine. When you get to your lodge you’ll find your walkie and uniform waiting for you. Meals and everything are all inclusive for staff and we hope you have a great summer” she finished her well practiced spiel and Charlie smiled as he collected the thick packet from in front of him.
“Thanks..”
“Josie” she filled in and he nodded.
“Thanks Josie, see you around” he tells her before heading back towards the front doors and where he left his car. Using the map to find employee parking Charlie found himself unloading the two suitcases he packed specifically meant for camp and locking up the rest of his belongings in his car. It was a bit harder to find the cabins but finally he was in the upper woods, brown buildings matching the next all in various rows. A big fire burning with a few people chattering around it and Charlie quickly looked for cabin number sixteen.
Valerie had only been here an hour and already smelled like wood smoke. This wouldn't have been the case if she didn't somehow end up in a cabin with Chrissy Norwick. Valerie didn't necessarily mind the girl but she liked having a chill first day and Chrissy already had five girls compiled in the small shared cabin as she retold the stories of each date she had with Nate Fanning over the school year. She knew it would be the same thing, Nate would appear at camp and pretend Chrissy didn't exist, that was until the fall when he no longer had all of the camps options to focus on.
So Valerie sat by the fire with a few old friends she had been volunteering with since she was sixteen and listened to their much more relaxed conversation as she waited for her cabin to be much less crowded. It was then she saw a taller boy, chestnut hair falling in his eyes, as he walked the trail up into the cabins. It wasn't often new volunteers came around here so she was immediately perking up. He was handsome, in a soft way. A suitcase hung from each of his arms and she could tell from the hike and the strain off the weight, his chest was puffing out broadly. The small beads of sweat collecting at his hair line convinced her to approach him before no one else could.
"Hey, you need some help?" she curiously asked, straightening out her shirt as she appeared on the trail beside him. He jumped only lightly due to her quick appearance and she tried to hide her amusment.
"I’m fine" he muttered even though his hair was now starting to stick to his forehead from sweat.
“First rule as a staff camper, no job is too small to ask for help” and she was snatching one of the suit cases out of his hand that had been weighing him down the entire trek up the hill. Realizing she wasn’t going away anytime soon he finally took a moment to take her in. The white staff shirt laid across her shoulders and the eagle symbol stretched across the center of her chest. He admired her full hips and bright smile. Her long brunette hair tied high in a ponytail that hung in curly strands down her back. She was pretty and he was supposed to last all summer around girls like this. He prayed she wasn’t a lifeguard.
“For the record, I never asked” he told her before starting towards the cabins where she followed quickly behind.
“Well what cabin is yours then Mr. Independent?” she asked, ignoring his previous statement, and the boy sighed. He was realizing pretty quickly that most people around here were pretty cheerful and stubborn.
“Sixteen and the name is Charlie” he caved and finally she was beaming a smile back at him that made her eyes sparkle. He hated that her eyes sparkled.
“Well Charlie I’m Valerie and you’re in luck. I just so happen to be in cabin fifteen” and she was walking along and leaving him behind, going in a direction all too familiar to her. Charlie was a bit shocked by her ease but followed nonetheless as she led him to a destination he had been counting on the last five hours.
"So clearly you're new, so I'll share some wise wisdom as a camper of three years" Valerie told him, thrilled to have something to do other than stare at a campfire in the middle of the day. The June sun was already hot enough. "Never use the showers on the south end. Theyre used the least so not only do they include a variety of bugs you've never seen before but they’re also the showers that lose hot water first"
"This is not making this anymore exciting" Charlie says and the laugh that comes from Valerie surprises them both. Charlie hates the way the sound wraps around his heart and makes him content.
"If Big Al enters the bathrooms wait at least thirty minutes before going in. If you don't know who that is you'll find out fairly quickly. If it's an emergency we're surrounded by woods for a reason" and now Charlie is the one laughing which based on his attitude when they first met has Valerie fairly surprised.
"Lastly tuesday nights mystery dinner sounds fun but it's actually a mix of leftovers from the previous week so we have staff dinner here" Valerie says just as they approach cabin sixteen only to hear the girl laughs from the one beside it.
"Shouldn't you be in there giggling away?" Charlie asks as he takes his suitcase from her and sets them both on the small porch step.
"God no, no use giggling about cute boys inside when I can be out here talking to them" and much to Charlie's surprise she winks at him as if it was the most natural thing in the world. It’s so quick he's almost convinced he didn't see it.
"You seem to have it all figured out Valerie" Charlie says and she softly shrugs, glancing up at the tall trees above them. Birds chirp and in a few hours the cicadas would buzz and she'd finally be right back at home.
"I'm sure there is more I'm forgetting to share but when I remember I promise to tell you. In the mean time Charlie you can find me at cabin fifteen or the lake" she says, oddly comforted by the new guy herself. There was something nice about knowing she got to be the one to greet him here.
"Why the lake?" he curiously asks as Valerie moves to walk away and she flashes a quick grin at him, fingers gliding through her curly brown hair and Charlie nervously gulps.
"I'm a lifeguard" she informs him and for the first time for the entirety of this conversation Charlie accepts that he's screwed. Valerie was not the kind of girl you ignore despite how badly he wanted too. Now worst of all he had to spend every single day of the summer with her in tiny red bathingsuits.
"Of course you are” he says and she quickly flashes him a grin before starting back the way they came, ignoring the group of girls in her very own cabin. Charlie hates how he watches her walk away, admiring her long tan legs in her tight jean shorts. It had been ten minutes and he was already screwed.
“Shit”
Happy 35th Anniversary to DPS. This is my love letter to this film <3

Hi I love you writing, so I wanted to ask you about some headcanons about a relashionship with The brotherhood members and a Male S/O
I hope you have a good day kisses
Of course!! Thank you for requesting, it means so much to me! I really hope this is up to par! Kisses! (。・ω・。)
Brotherhood with a Male!S/O
Azure Lion:
He is the most supportive boyfriend ever
Azure pushes you to your limits and encourages you to go beyond!
He's a little less affectionate with you when you're around everyone else, mostly because he doesn't want to have to endure their endless teasing
When you two are by yourselves though, expect a lot more contact
From small things like gentle shoulder squeezes to more obvious things like peppering kisses over your face
He isn't hesitant about roughhousing with you at all, and treats you as if you're just another member of the Brotherhood (he's way more affectionate with you but yk)
He's a lil old fashioned, not in a toxic or bad way though
He's the type that believes men should be strong and capable so that they can protect the ones they care about
Best believe hes urging you to train with him or join him and the brotherhood on their silly quests
If he were to get drunk (which is surprisingly rare), he would be all over you
He would NOT be ashamed to get handsy in front of everyone else in his drunk daze (much to Wukong's demise. He's exaggeratedly gagging at you two the whole time)
He values quality time with you where he can be vulnerable without his sworn brothers teasing, so he might take you on quiet, secluded dates, just to be close and cuddly with you without the pressures of others
Peng:
Their so fruity its not even funny.
They have absolutely no qualms with showing you off and letting everyone know that you two are together
They call everyone 'darling', including you, but be prepared for some other more exclusive nicknames
'Dear, love, and sweetheart' are just a few of the many they'd call you
They're always touching you in some way, whether it be wrapping an arm around your shoulders, resting a feathered hand atop your head, or leaning against you
Maybe its because they want everyone to know you're theirs, or maybe its because they like knowing that you're there beside them. Who knows
Just because you're partners doesn't mean you won't be subjected to their teasing
They always have something to say
"Hm, your hair is a bit out of place darling. I'd fix that up if I were you."
"I knew you were helpless, but I didn't think it was to the point where you had to rely on others pointing out your clothes are on backwards."
But If their quips start bothering you and they notice, their always quick to reassure you in their own.. special way
"You are such a twit. You know I don't mean any of that my love. My only real insults are reserved for that damn monkey."
They love giving you kisses everywhere except your lips (just because they like teasing you)
They think its funny when your face goes red after they give you a teasing slap to the rear
Even though it might be hard to tell, under all of that teasing and jest, Peng loves you dearly
Yellowtusk:
He is so protective of you
Not to the point where it's overbearing, but he still has a tendency to be a worry wart
"Have you eaten today dear?"
Please just reassure him you're alright, don't leave him hanging
He's definitely the wisest of the group, and follows his head more than his heart
Because of this, the Brotherhood sometimes tends to drown him out
If you're willing to sit through his ramblings or stories then he's eternally grateful
He's not really one to initiate things like kisses, so you'll have to take the reigns on that part cause he's a little shy! (and he's worried he might hurt you with one of his tusks)
He has no problem initiating things like hugs and cuddles though
If you ever come into his study while he's working on something, he'll happily plop you down on his lap and explain what he's doing while he works
You two are so comfortable and casual around each other that someone could mistake you two for just friends at a glance
But Yellowtusk knows that he doesn't need hugs or kisses or cuddles to know that he's utterly head over heels for you

Words:1440
His heart racing, the sweat on his forehead, evidence of the nightmare he once again had, sitting upright, and without even looking to your side, his hand starts searching for your warm little body, a habit, whenever he had a nightmare, but then soon he realizes the nightmare he just had, was about you, and the damn failed rescue attempt.
Getting out of your shared bed, now pacing up and down, tired of the way he feels and damn tired of the emptiness he feels in his chest, its been months since the three of you attacked that vamp nest.
Shaking his head, as if it will remove the memories, the love and the sorrow, but it doesn't, if anything it only makes it worse, every time he tries to lay down and get some shut eye, he starts dreaming of you, your laugh, your sarcastic little come backs, the way you'd dance in the kitchen while cleaning and listening to the music you loved so much, the way you'll tease him, walking around with only his plaid shirts hugging your curves, the way you'll let a giggle escape, whenever he threw his arms around you, and starts kissing the nape of your neck, the way you'll turn around and look at him, with passion dancing in those pretty eyes, the way, you'll pout your lips when you really want him too kiss you, the way your hands will messily go through his hair as the passion ignites more, the way your body will be all tangled up with his till dawn, the way your sweet voice greets him early morning, placing little kisses on his lips , the way your fingers will linger on his face, saying how much you loved each and every freckle, the way you'd describe, the green in his eyes its between forest and emerald green, with just a tad bit of hazel in them, near the iris, you'd say, with that sweet, flirty, mischievous smile, revealing the way your little smile lines, curved
But all those loving memories soon gets replaced with what happened that dreadful night.
Falling down at the side of your bed, taking ahold of your pillow, it still has the scent of your hair, breathing it in deeply, as if he can breathe you in once more, holding on too it, as if its you, fighting back the tears mixed with anger, guilt and the image of your lifeless body in his arms.
It was supposed to be a easy hunt, in and out, the three of you have done these hunts hundreds of times, and that morning when he and Sammy planned the hunt, he would've never thought it'll be your last.
The two of them, met you on a case in Kansas, while a ghost where hunting your newly rented apartment, at first you didn't believe in such thing's as monsters and ghosts, but you soon learned there's way more of them out there than you'd ever could think. So you started to learn all you can about the lore, and then the three of you met up, on a windigo hunt a few years ago, and it didn't take long for him too tell you, about how he felt, the two of you were madly in love, so the day he asked you to move in, you said yes without hesitation. You were the only sunshine in his life, the only glimmer of hope.
While the three of you, checked out the vamps hiding place, you somehow got lost in the woods, before you could do anything the vamp's hand squeezed around your neck, lifting you up in the air, you tried screaming but, no words came out, try kicking and punching, but the only thing you'll be able to touch was the air, between you and this creature.
He tied you down to a chair, you tried to wiggle your way out, but he just beat the crap out of you, leaving your face a bloodied pulp, he forced you to make a call, to Dean too tell him you've been taken, the vamp's plan along to get the Winchester Brothers, and trap them as well.
The distraught stare on Dean's face when he saw you, head hanging slightly, blood dripping on too your legs, your once tied-up hair, now messily framing your face, once you looked up, he gasp for air, as e saw your pretty face beaten, he balled his fist's, shouting now ''hey freak, you want me? come an get me''
The vampire came from the dark corner, storming down on him, Dean just gave him a mischievous smile, as he dug out from under the creature's fist, pushing that wooden stake through his back, with all his strength he arranged it, piercing his heart, the creature tumbled down to the ground, Dean just left him there, running towards, where you were sitting, untying you, placing his left arm on your back, and the right under your legs, cradling you, the only words you got out ''Dean, look out'' as another man came running in, catching a glimpse of Sam, fighting two off outside.
He quickly placed you down, getting ready to fight this other vampire, he whispered ''Stay with me sweetheart, I'll get you out of here.'' you just nodded, making your way to a stand, preparing yourself, to fight in case, there were more, where in honesty you hoped there won't be, your body, was aching, and to tell you the truth, you were tired, wanting to go home, and to fall asleep in Dean's arms, but first the three of you had to get out of this sticky situation.
Making your way over to, the deceased vampire, removing the wooden stake, sliding it too Dean, he gestures you a thank you, as he drove it through the creature's heart, but it was in that moment, when you heard an unfamiliar voice from behind you ''You took my brothers, from me Winchester, now I'll take someone from you'' before Dean could race towards your position, the man behind you smiled, as he shifted that blade through your spine, revealing the blood stained silver in the front of your shirt, you dropped down too the floor, tears streaming down your cheeks, the blood pooling in front of you, hearing a loud bang, as Sam shot him, just to get him away from, Dean bolted towards him, driving the stake through his heart, screaming ''NO''
He collapsed down to you, ''Sweetheart, stay with me'' cupping your cheek, you place your hand over his, your voice barely audible ''I love you''
He smiles, ''I love you too, but you can tell me that when your better okay?''
A weak look on your face, ''Baby'' he places a finger on your lips, his voice concerned ''save your strength'' as he inspects you, realizing you don't have much time, his voice heavy with emotion, ''I'll get Cas, I'll ask Crowley, but baby, I.. I'll l have you in my arms again soon okay''
Trembling from the coldness, running through your body, your voice low, shaky, ''No Dean! I don't want to come back, half a person, you need to let me go, I will be somewhere in the sunshine, smiling down at you, waiting for you, alright'' sobbing now frantically, ''let me go, please''
Dean sat there destroyed, tears wetting his eyes, he can't say the words, he just nods, going down tasting your lips for the last time, as he kisses you, he feels your last breath rushing over his lips, he breaks down, balling now as he holds your lifeless body in his arms, rocking forwards and backwards, knowing this will be the last time he'll be able too hold you. Unsure of how long Sam stood there, eyes glazed with wetness, knowing his brother lost the love of his life.
They gave you a proper hunters funeral, so many people came, some friends, some just other hunters and some, just people you saved, Dean couldn't say much at the funeral just that ''he loved you very much'' the weeks there after was torture, he kept thinking you'll come running towards him, jumping in his arms, but nothing, he was all alone, well he had Sammy, and Cas, but he didn't have you.
As he sits there holding the pillow, taking notice, that its morning, he glances through the window, recalling your last words again, like every morning, a little smile tugging at his lips,'' I will be somewhere in the sunshine'', giving him enough strength to pick himself up from the ground, and get ready to go save a few more people.

Say you remember me (Part 1)
John Price x reader
Words: 1,1k
Summary: The first time you see John, it triggers a terrifying vision and a gut-wrenching feeling you can’t brush off. But the pull of your heart towards him is too tempting to ignore. Especially when he looks at you so tenderly like he’d known you before.
Warnings: large age gap (John: 39, reader: 20), angst?, next life, reincarnation, death, probably bad English (I’m so sorry)
Notes: hi :3 I want to improve my writing skills so every constructive feedback is welcomed. Tysm for enjoying my writing. I’ll try to be more productive, hopefully at least one fic per week instead of one every two weeks.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Wednesday afternoon, as usual, not many customers visit your café as other days of the week. You sigh, cleaning the counters to kill some time. Betty, your staff turns on the small television and switches channels out of boredom. “Any suggestions?”
You look up to see a documentary of wars playing on TV, then quickly glance down, “Anything but that, Bee. You know I’m terrified of guns and blood, yeah?”
She gives you a side hug and quickly apologizes “Oh sh- I didn’t notice. I’m soooo sorry”
You smile to ease her, then the doorbell tinkles right after she switches to some K-pop music channel. “I got this”, you told her, smiling brightly at the new customer.
Before you knew it, white vision flashed in front of your eyes and the ringing in your ears appeared. For a moment, you think you’re going to faint. But your vision quickly comes back, only that you’re not in the coffee shop anymore. The dim yellow light over the pastry counter turns into a white field of snow, the doorbell which rings cheerfully is now silent, your ears only picked up on the sound of the howling wind, those forget-me-not flower pots you’ve just watered this morning shifts its form into dried branches of trees, almost hidden by the thick snow around you. Your body is all numbed, and you already know what you’ll see when you glance down. It’s always the same, no matter how many times you experience this.
“Darling?”
You snapped back into reality by his voice, and there you are, still behind the counter. The pink half-apron was twisted in your hands as if it were a grip to real life, grounding you to not drift away any further into this hallucination.
Gosh, you couldn’t be more relieved you got out of there just in time, yet to see that horrifying view. You had dreamed about that place so many times since you were just a child, and every time it happened, you woke up in the middle of the night, sweating and crying uncontrollably. You never knew why you had this constant nightmare, your mom said it’s best to ignore it and go about your days, so you did just that. However, it has never gone this far, it’s like you were pulled into another reality, your face still freezes from the cold and the smell of fresh blood lingers in your nostrils.
Stop. It was just some illusion, okay? Just ignore it like always and focus. Your eyes shift to the man behind the counter, who’s waiting for you to take his order for god knows how long now.
“Hi. Oh gosh, I’m so so sorry, sir. I was distracted. Ca-”
Before you can finish your words, your eyes meet, and your heart squeezes in pain like it’s being wrung like an old rag. Tears keep pouring out, then your voice is stuck by a lump forming in your throat, if you stay here any longer, it’ll surely turn into a full-on sobbing in the middle of the café.
A warm hand reaches out, wiping your wet cheek, if your mind was any clearer, you would have avoided his touch. But your heart flutters and beats eagerly in your rib cage, yearning for him - a stranger you just met. Maybe it’s tears making your eyes see things that are not there, but if you had a mirror, you would swear that his eyes must be just as red as yours right now.
Your senses suddenly come back and you immediately retreat from him. Mumbling a quick “sorry”, you run off to the staff room to collect yourself after telling Betty to take your place. You can hear him calling out your name right before the door closes. After you’ve finally calmed down, the realization hits, your name tag was left behind in your apartment today.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
You closed the café early that day, mentally drained from all the tears and mood swings. On your way home, you can’t help but get carried away by the weird interaction this afternoon. Maybe you need to have a check-up with either a neurologist, a therapist, or whoever can fix your fucked up brain. Too busy with the noisy thoughts in your head, you bump your head into a broad and firm chest, letting out a surprised squeak.
“Should’ve paid attention to your surroundings, dove”
The man speaks up before you get the chance to apologize, his voice warm and low, one glance and you can recognize that thick beard and kind blue eyes immediately.
“Oh…I’m sorry, sir. For leaving so abruptly at the café, too. I was…ill” You come up with a lie quickly.
“It’s John, love. Are you feeling well now? I thought that I terrified you.” His brows knit together like he’s genuinely worried about you, or your perception of him, you don’t even know.
It’s such a relief when those visions don’t come back during your conversation now, but the tingles in your heart are getting stronger and more constant as if wanting to tell you something.
You chuckle: “I feel better now, thank you. And no, you didn’t do anything wrong, no need to worry”
John returns a warm smile: “Good to hear that, love”. Gosh, this man and his pet names, if you’re being honest, it feels right somehow, the way it brings comfort to your heart when he says it.
Either he can read your mind, or you’re a freaking talented manifestor, because you couldn’t believe it when he asks “Would you like to go on a date with me? I erm…was on my way back to the café to give you this”
You’re quick to stop your eyes from getting teary again while receiving a bouquet of poppies from him, “This is too nice, sir. Thank you, it’s my favorite flower”. You choose not to say his name, being a polite woman as you are, it seems disrespectful to say it when you have just met, besides, he doesn't seem to pay attention to it.
“I know” he mumbles under his breath, not to reach your ears. Yes, you admit, he has some strange behaviors, like looking at you too intensely, knowing your name without you even mentioned, and knowing your favorite flower, but you still agree to meet him on Saturday night after your shift.
When you wave him goodbye and part ways, you don’t notice the way his smile slowly fading, he sighs, looking as you walk away, “You really don’t remember”

cause we survived the great war
For @badthingshappenbingo . Prompt: Fainting.
"Did you stop him?" Zuko interrupted, his vision growing more and more blurred from the salty water that was building up in his eyes as he squeezed Aang's hand tightly, "d-did you stop him?"
"I took away his bending. He's powerless."
Despite popular belief by those outside of the Fire Nation, Capitol City did get cooler at night.
Zuko had always assumed it was from the wind that came down from the high peaks of the volcanoes blowing down into the capitol city, or maybe the pushback from the waves that surrounded the smaller islands.
Either way, the chilly breeze was passing through once again which only made the fiery pain in the center of his torso more apparent as it engulfed him whole and pulsed through his blood with every thump of his heart.
He refused to make mention of it to Katara despite his arm being wrapped around her shoulders to keep him on his feet as they walked towards where they had agreed to meet up with the others on the shoreline; just like her, he needed to know that the others were alive, that Aang had done the impossible and had ended the hundred year war.
Even if that meant that he was now an orphan.
"Sokka!" Katara shouted, pulling away from Zuko to run forward and pull her limping older brother into her arms, resulting in a particularly strong thump of pain to hit him right in the chest.
He couldn't hear the exchange between the siblings and Suki from where he stood, but despite the throbbing in his torso, he couldn't help but let his lips curl into a smile as he watched the trio hug.
Only for him to be knocked back into reality by a harsh punch in the arm that he knew belonged to Toph.
"Glad to see you're alive."
"Same to you, Sparky," her grin was wide even in the dim light of the setting sun before her nose wrinkled, "ooh, but you stink."
"I'm sorry, you're saying that to me?"
"Ha ha," she said with sarcasm laced in her words before they turned serious, "what happened, did you fall in a fireplace?"
"Azula plays dirty, Zuko gritted his teeth as he spoke, letting an arm wrap around the wound to support himself, "Is Aang-"
"He's on his way, but he's in the middle of- Zuko!" Sokka cut himself off with an arm around Suki as he limped towards him, "that almost killed Aang! How are you sti…"
The ringing sound replaced any voices that impacted him as he tried to blink away the sudden dizziness and his mouth filled with a coppery taste, only to look back up at the four blurring faces surrounding him.
"-hat's wrong?"
"I can't…" he swallowed, trying to pull in a breath that remained just out of his reach while the edges of his vision started to dim, "I can't breathe…"
"-eartbeat's too slow, catch hi-"
Zuko's world went black as he crashed to his knees.
…
"Please, Katara."
"You need to rest, we all do. I don't even know when he'll wake up."
"I haven't seen him for two days and…he deserves to know about what I did."
Katara's sigh echoed through the room, only returning his attention to the searing pain in his torso that was once again returning with a vengeance.
"Okay, you're right. I'll be back in a few hours."
"Katara? You should get some rest too."
Zuko didn't hear her response, he was too focused on the feeling of a small, gentle hand looped around his own; he knew it wasn't Toph, not with how gentle the voice had been, which could only mean one thing.
He opened his eyes slowly and carefully turned his head to focus his vision on the figure next to his bedside before managing to speak, "Aang."
"You're awake," Aang took a breath that sounded a bit too shaky to just be exhaustion and the look in his eyes told Zuko that if it wasn't for his injuries, he would have been pulled into a tight hug, "Katara told me, about the Agni Kai."
"Aang, my…my f-father-" Zuko hissed through his teeth from the pressure that the inhale had put on the burn that adorned his chest, tears involuntarily springing into his eyes.
"Don't strain yourself. We can talk later, once you're feeling better-"
"Did you stop him?" Zuko interrupted, his vision growing more and more blurred from the salty water that was building up in his eyes as he squeezed Aang's hand tightly, "d-did you stop him?"
"I took away his bending. He's powerless."
Zuko loosened his grip. 'He can't hurt anyone any more.'
"Thank you."
Aang squeezed his hand tightly with a smile on his face, the closest thing to a hug that he would give right now, before speaking again, "go back to sleep. You're safe with me."
It was Zuko's cue to let his vision darken and let the pain dissipate once again.
…
It didn't elevate the pain when she focused her attention on the pink edges of the wound and it trailed away from his torso onto into his arm from where he had tried to push it out through his fingertips.
In fact, when Katara bent the water over his right arm to try and sooth the angry nerves that laid underneath, it was cooling and actually helped ease away a fraction of the built-up tension in his shoulders.
It made sense why she started there and worked her way inward towards the center of the attack during every healing session.
"Do you need to take a break?" Her voice was sincere as she looked up at him, the glassiness of tears apparent in her blue eyes.
"Do you?"
"I'm…" she stopped, raising an arm up to wipe away the tears in her eyes, "I'm fine."
"Katara-"
"Why did you do it?" She cut him off quickly, "you know what this did to Aang, so why would you do it?"
"I didn't t-think she'd aim for you."
"Just answer me, Zuko," she begged, the tears falling from her eyes to the point where she discarded the water she had been using into the nearby bucket due to contamination, "why did you risk so much for me?"
He pondered on her question for a moment.
He hadn't been thinking about anything but pushing the lightning away from himself and into the ground, trying to emerge victorious against his unstable sister; but the crazed glance and the blue twisting around her fingertips had him running forward before the impact and-pain pain pain-
He looked back up at Katara's eyes, teary and demanding as they searched for an answer that only he could give.
"Because we're a team, r-remember?"
She wiped her tears away again and pulled in a long sniffle before looking over at him with a smile before she spoke, her voice shaking from her crying, "I…I know I already said it, but thank you."
Zuko nodded, wrapping his fingers around his sheets as he watched her bend fresh water out of the basin and braced himself for the pain.
"I'll be as fast as I can, okay?" Her voice was comforting and quiet now that the tears had finally stopped running down her cheeks and she had received a satisfactory answer, but Zuko knew that as soon as he agreed, he would be launched into unbearable agony.
"Okay."
The cry of pain that escaped his lips didn't shine a light to the intensity of the fiery, searing pain that engulfed him and fought back against the healing water; he gripped the sheets tightly in his palms and squeezed his eyes shut.
"I know it hurts," he made out as she hit a particularly sore spot that had his back arching in protest, "I'm almost done."
When she finally pulled the water away, he was struggling to get full breaths into his lungs as he opened his golden eyes that were now filled to the brim with pain-induced tears.
"It's going to get easier," Katara's assurance was sincere as she gently cupped the right side of his face in her hand to wipe away the tears that had leaked from his eyes and onto his cheeks, "for both of us."
…
When he awoke again, there was no sign of Aang or Katara.
Instead, he was greeted by a soft humming of a familiar song that he had heard his whole life. A song that had filled the halls of the palace whenever his uncle, as well as his cousin, were safely within the walls rather than on the front lines.
"Well," The humming stopped, replaced by the familiar voice of his uncle, "look who's awake."
"I thought you w-were in Ba Sing Se." Zuko managed to speak, his tongue heavy in his mouth.
"I was, but when the news of you defeating Azula in an Agni Kai reached us, as well as the defeat of Ozai, I knew that my efforts would be better here. After all, someone has to weed out his loyalists and you, my nephew, are in no state to do that yourself."
"I did try, to r-redirect the lightning."
"And master Katara thinks that was what saved you. While she has expressed gratitude that you saved her life, it would be wise to follow her advice until you are healed."
It wasn't like Zuko planned on rebelling against her, not while his chest burned with every inhale.
Despite the pain, he still managed to push himself up on his wrists and sit up with the support of the pillows behind his head.
"Y-You were humming the song," he changed the subject, watching as his uncle raised an eyebrow while sipping from the teacup that was a part of the tea set sitting on the dresser, " the one you u-used to sing it to Lu Ten and I."
"Yes, I was. Here," Iroh nodded as he grabbed the second teacup, like he knew that Zuko was going to wake up, and pressed it into his shaking palms, "you should drink and go back to sleep."
Zuko slowly brought the edge of the cup to his lips and tipped the warm tea into his mouth, letting the familiar flavors of jasmine and chamomile coat his tongue, washing away the coppery taste from his mouth.
He let his uncle gently take the glass cup out of his palms before laying back down, his vision spinning by the time he was laying flat on the mattress once again; he closed his eyes, reducing everything to black.
Zuko allowed himself to drift back off to the sounds of his uncle singing softly, just loud enough that he could make out the words "Brave soldier boy, comes marching home".
…
"Absolutely not."
"Katara, the coronation is in a few days-"
"My judgment wouldn't change if it was in a few hours," she shook her head as she wrapped the new bandages around his torso and up around his right shoulder, "you are on bedrest until further notice, and your uncle said you listen to me."
"He said it would be wise to follow your advice." Zuko hadn't planned on fighting against her judgment at all, let alone so soon after he was advised not to go against her, but he needed to know what was happening outside of the walls of his childhood bedroom.
"I wouldn't poke the bear if I was you, Sparky." Toph remarked from where she was lounging on the ottoman, her head hanging just above the floor.
"What did you just call me?" Katara turned away from his tight bandages to presumably glare at Toph, like it would make much of a difference.
"Relax, sweetness. I'm telling him to listen to you and not to piss you off, especially while you're gone."
'Wait, what?'
"You're leaving?"
Katara's sigh acted as confirmation even before she started speaking, "not for long, just for the rest of the day. There are a lot of injured people in both Ba Sing Se and the Fire Nation, they need all of the healers they can get," she explained as she finished wrapping the bandages around his chest, "these aren't too tight?"
"No, they aren't."
"Good. You're doing a lot better and Sokka's leg has been healing up well enough, which is why I'm going with Aang and Suki," she explained as she stood up and pulled her bag over her shoulder, "but you are staying in bed."
Zuko raised his hands in surrender, resigning himself to staring at the ceiling for the rest of the day, allowing Katara to leave the room without another word.
However, just as he was starting to let his eyes flutter shut in relaxation, it was shattered by the young earthbender who had taken residence in his room that afternoon after his uncle had left.
"Do you want to get up?"
"What?"
"She just left the palace and I'm not gonna snitch. I used to run away all the time!"
"Toph-"
"You can't get better just laying down all day," Toph cut him off as she walked over and held her hand out, "besides, I still wanna know what's in this place."
"I don't-" Zuko started, but it quickly clicked in his mind just what Toph wanted and why she was encouraging a rebellion against Katara, "you still want your life changing field trip."
"Fine, you caught me," her voice was much sadder as she sat on the end of his bed and flopped backwards onto the mattress, "I know it won't be life changing, since the war is over and you're still hurt but…even if it isn't a new thing to you, this is the first time I've ever been anywhere outside of the earth kingdom."
"Are you gonna go back?"
"I'm not sure yet," she shrugged before standing up and offering her hand out again, "but right now, I'm gonna go to the garden and you should come with me."
"Okay, okay." He relented and pushed himself onto his feet, wincing at how the pain ricocheted up into his shoulder which forced him to grab the bed frame for support while his knees threatened to collapse from under him.
"On second thought, maybe you should stay here."
"Just give me a second."
"I don't want you getting hurt again."
Zuko's knees stopped shaking and the pain ebbed into a dull ache instead of the strong stabbing-like pain and it didn't return when he let go of the bed frame or when he walked forward to slide on his sandals.
"I'm fine," he insisted as he pulled one of the many robes around his shoulders in order to conceal the bandages around his torso and tied it closed, "but, just to be safe, can I-"
Toph didn't let him finish before taking his right hand and guiding it to her shoulder as support, "just tell me where to go."
And with that, the two of them began their walk through the palace.
No matter how much Zuko attempted to focus on the task at hand, he was still using his left hand to shield his vision away from the glaring pictures of the former Fire Lord all while thinking that this place was in serious need of redecoration.
Because while he understood the importance of the portraits of the Fire Lords before him, as to not to forget his lineage, he would be unable to rule under the glaring gaze of his father for the rest of his life.
Luckily for himself as well as Toph, the garden was not far from his room and soon enough, she was taking his hand off of his shoulder and helping him lower himself to sitting on the ground next to the small pond as the exhaustion began to seep into his bones.
"Are you still doing okay?"
"Oh yeah," Zuko breathed, resting his hand over his bandaged wound to try and sooth the renewed throbbing while resting his head against one of the tree trunks, "never better."
"I don't know if that was just sarcasm or just a load of monkey feathers, but your heartbeat is going crazy, Sparky."
"Why did you want to come out here?" He asked, trying to change the subject in order to give himself a chance to relax and let his agony dissipate once more.
"It's too hot in the palace, it makes my feet hurt," Toph explained as she pulled her knees in, "and I feel more in control out here, that if something were to happen, I'm surrounded by the earth so I can stop it faster. Also, Aang said he was able to hold one of the turtle ducks yesterday."
"We should have grabbed some bread from the kitchen first." Zuko chuckled but still pushed himself forward and rested one of his palms into the pond just like he had been taught by his mother when he was a kid.
Sure enough, one of the small turtle ducklings swam right up to his palm and gently pecked at it in search of some sort of treat, allowing him to gently scoop it up in his hands before turning to Toph, "hold your hands out."
She was obedient, cupping her hands as she held them out which helped him set the small bird into her palms before guiding her left hand to cup over it to keep it secure, "you have to be careful though, the mothers are notoriously ruthless when it comes to protecting their young."
"It's so soft," Toph murmured, running one of her fingers over the top of its soft head which resulted in a few content chirps, "and so small."
"This one is probably a few months old, it'll get bigger as it gets older."
Toph continued to hold the turtle duck securely in her palms, but Zuko couldn't help but swallow when the image of the young earthbender was replaced by a memory of his little sister.
They were just five and seven when she allowed him to place the turtle duckling in her open palms only to carelessly sear a hole right through its delicate shell.
There had been a lot of tears shed on both his as well as the baby turtle duck's part, but his mother arrived quickly to send Azula to her room before bringing the turtle duck and Zuko to the palace infirmary in order to do her best to soothe the burn.
It had resulted in a loud argument between his parents that night, one that echoed all the way into his bedroom; he hadn't been able to decipher the words back then while covering his ears, but he could only guess that his father had been displeased by the heir to the throne sobbing in response to an attack on an innocent animal.
He hadn't even noticed that Toph had let the turtle duckling swim back to its mother until she rested her hand on his left leg in complete silence.
"After we went to the play on Ember Island, I asked Aang about your scar," Her words were sudden but not unexpected as he turned his face towards her only to see her staring straight ahead at nothing, "he said it starts over your eye and spreads all the way over to your ear. Is that how you know how to describe stuff to me, because you know how it is?"
"Yeah," Zuko managed to say as he looked down at his fingernails, even if there was no point in avoiding Toph's non-existent gaze, "I got it right before I was banished from the fire nation."
"It was Ozai, wasn't it?" Zuko's tongue went dry at her words, he couldn't lift it to respond as tears welled up in his eyes from the statement.
He had never confirmed the rumors when asked, despite the tale being a popular propaganda piece during his father's rule, about what he would do to those who disrespected him. Given her next statement though, it seemed as though his silence was confirmation enough.
"Unless you ask me not to in the next five seconds, I'm going to hug you."
He didn't respond, allowing Toph to throw herself into his lap and wrap her arms around his neck while pressing her head against his shoulder.
Zuko ignored the renewed fire in his abdomen and wrapped his arms just as tightly around Toph.
…
"That one looks too stuffy," Sokka commented as he bit into the apple he was holding while leaning against the wall to seemingly avoid putting weight on his splinted leg, "and the sleeves are huge. You'll firebend once and woosh! Erupt into flames!"
"It's a flame resistant fabric, like all of the clothes produced in the fire nation," The tailor explained while wrapping the line of measuring tape around Zuko's bandaged abdomen, "it would be preposterous for the new Fire Lord to be unable to firebend in their regalia."
"I'm just saying, maybe it's time to update the regalia! Make it more Zuko and less Ozai. Right, Zuko?"
Zuko just wanted to get down from the platform he was standing on, away from the gaze from the tailor who had been part of the palace staff since his grandfather had been on the throne; even though he had been questioned extensively about where his loyalties lied, his chest still felt tight every time he looked over at the elderly man.
"Zuko, you with us?"
Zuko blinked a few times, his arms still extended outwards while he met Sokka's concerned glance but when he tried to respond, his mouth was dry as he lowered his arms while a shiver of fear went down his spine.
"Zheng, can you give a second?"
The tailor left the room with a bow in his direction, but all Zuko could focus on was Sokka's hand gripping onto his wrist as he helped him step down from the platform and sit on the lone, padded bench that sat in the corner.
"Are you in pain? Because I can get Katara-"
"It's stupid." Zuko swallowed, resting his face in his hands to try and get his heart to stop beating so fast. 'You're safe. No one is going to put you in a room with people that haven't been thoroughly questioned. You're fine.'
No matter how much he knew those statements to be true, his chest was burning with panic and paranoia.
"I once tried to keep us from going to get supplies because I had a dream where food ate people," Sokka's hand was gentle on his shoulder, just enough pressure for him to know that he was there, "I'm pretty sure it can't get more stupid then that."
"Just…worried, about all of this."
"About being the Fire Lord? Because that's not stupid, I'd argue that it'd be more stupid if you weren't."
'I shouldn't be scared. They shouldn't put a coward on the throne. The last thing that the Fire Nation needs is a coward ruling over them.'
"Look," Sokka spoke again, despite Zuko unable to respond as he rested his face in his hands, "this is a lot of responsibility, I get that. I was too young to go with my father but too old to be protected which meant that before Katara and I met Aang, I was the head of the Southern Water Tribe. I know it's not the same scale, but if I can do it, you've got it in the bag."
"You shouldn't doubt yourself, Sokka." Zuko finally managed to lift his head out of his hands and rest it against the wall instead as he responded, his heartbeat starting to fall back into its normal rhythm.
"Neither should you," Sokka argued, "even if the crown wasn't your birthright, which it is, you beat Azula in an Agni Kai."
"Aiming at someone else results in a forfeit."
"You saved my little sister's life, Zuko, and I…" he looked over as Sokka wiped his face on his sleeve before looking back to him, "I don't know how I'm ever going to repay you."
"You don't need to."
Sokka shrugged, which gave him permission to rest his heavy head, the head that would be crowned as the new Fire Lord in the morning, on the shoulder of one of the bravest warriors in the world.
"So, are you gonna kick me out of here then?"
"I didn't say that."
"Good, because someone needs to be here to tell you that these sleeves are so," Sokka smiled as he lifted up the edge of one of the sleeves and wrapped his hand around it to prove that Zuko still had plenty of room for his wrists in the robe, "so impractical."
…
"I should count myself lucky. The new Fire Lord has graced me with his presence in my lowly prison cell."
His vision was spinning when he finally returned from the Boiling Rock; it was real, he was the Fire Lord and he had proven his father wrong.
And yet, as he held onto the doorframe, his heart pounding in his chest and his ears filled with high-pitched ringing, he couldn't help but wonder if somewhere in his jail cell, his father had been hoping for this outcome.
That his son would be put on the throne and maybe he would be able to worm his way into his mind again. It made Zuko's stomach fill with nausea at the thought of being the puppet on his father's string again, like he had been just a year ago.
"There you are! Katara wants to check how everything is healing before we head to the Earth Kingdom…Zuko?"
Zuko had just been able to hear the voice over the ringing in his ears and looked up to see the blurry shape of Aang staring right at him.
"Zuko, are you-"
Zuko let go of the doorframe as his vision went dark, feeling hands grab his shoulders on the way down that were accompanied by a scream.
…
The first thing he heard when he opened his eyes was "don't move" followed by the familiar sting of water being passed over the lightning mark.
Zuko wasn't planning on it, not with how much everything was aching just from breathing; that was, until he heard a second voice that had him lifting his head from the pillows and propping himself up onto his elbows.
"He's awake?" Before he could even speak, Aang was rushing over to his side with relief tinged in his words, "you're awake."
"And he needs to lay," Katara cut herself off to use her free hand to press on his chest and guide him back onto the pillows, "back down."
"Is it bad?" He asked, wincing at how dry his mouth was and how hoarse his voice was.
"I'll get you some water." Aang insisted as he disappeared from view once again, leaving him to look up at Katara's squint of concentration.
"Everything is irritated. The nerves, the skin…it's all irritated. We put off the trip to the Earth Kingdom till tomorrow and King Kuei sends his regards," she stopped for a moment before looking over at him, "where were you?"
Zuko swallowed; he didn't want Katara to know that he had gone much further than anyone was comfortable with permitting, especially without security, not to mention that he had gone to see the former Fire Lord.
Even with his reasoning, he wasn't sure that any of his new found friends would be comfortable with the fact that he had gone in the first place.
"Here," Aang's return with the glass of water returned Katara's eyes to his burnt abdomen and gave Zuko, at the very least, a temporary scapegoat and took the lack of questioning eyes on him to lift his head and let the water coat his aching throat, "we told General Iroh too, since we'll be staying with him when we get there."
"Thanks." Zuko nodded even though he knew that it was going to be more difficult to keep his visit from his uncle then it was to keep it from Aang and Katara.
"No problem, Fire Lord Hotman" Aang smiled as he took the glass despite the quick glare he shot at the airbender, glancing at the burn for a moment before looking back at Zuko, a half-hearted giggle in his voice while gesturing to his back, "what do you know? We match now."
Zuko couldn't help but laugh despite the pain it caused him.
After all, Aang had saved the world and he had stopped Azula; the next few weeks, months, maybe even years would be hard as the nations settled down now that the war was over and started to rebuild.
But that could wait; for the next few hours as he rested, he didn't have to be the Fire Lord; he had the permission to just be Zuko.

Retribution Chapter 9
Summary: You had DID for most of your life, over forty years, since you were two. It wasn't until after you were forty-three that you were finally able to heal it and become a singular. You're a hunter and have been with Dean for a very long time. Once you become singular, you have to face the horrors that your mental illness subjected on those you cared about, loved. Can you get past seeing yourself as worse than any monster you've ever hunted down?
Pairing is Dean Winchester x Reader/You
Warnings: Talk of DID - Dissociation Identity Disorder (AKA MPD), Mental Health Issues, Angst - lots, some Fluff, Healing (yes, this is a warning).
Please, if you suffer from any mental illness, seek help. There are people out there who can help you get through it, no matter how alone you feel now or how hard it may seem.
A/N: This is going to be very dark, darker than anything I've written thus far. It will include many triggers - abuse both sexual and physical - in memories and what happens to the reader. I'm hoping it will have a happy ending but right now, I am not sure where this will go. This is your main warning before you begin reading. A/N: Dreams and Memories are indented in italics. Thoughts are in italics only.
----------------------------------------- Chapter 9 - Picking Up the Pieces Pt. 3
You woke up in your bed, confused, and looked over at the clock.
Shit!
It was after two in the afternoon. Eileen and Charlie had shown up hours ago. You got out of bed and were about to head out of your room when Cas was there, between you and the door, making you jump.
“I’m sorry for startling you. You had a panic attack. I put you to sleep so you could naturally come out of it. It was the only thing I could think of. I didn’t want to involve Dean. I know how you feel about that,” he explained quickly.
You hugged him, which he returned, “Thank you, again. I’m just not used to… any of this. It’s so lonely, both in my head and around here.” Tears again burned the corners of your eyes, which you squeezed shut, deciding you weren’t going to cry right now.
“It’s okay, Y/N. I’m here, as your friend. When you’re ready, the girls are here,” he replied.
Pulling away from him, you took a deep breath and gave Cas a nod before both of you headed out of your room and down the hallway. You walked behind him, utterly nervous about how this was going to go. You knew what kind of flirty relationship some of your personalities had had with Charlie, but you didn’t see her that way.
There was laughter coming from the library, but it quickly died down when you and Cas made your way there. When Cas moved from in front of you to his seat at one of the tables, Charlie and Eilieen just stared at you for a moment before both of them jumped up and wrapped you in a hug.
You didn’t realize you looked like a scared child, and they were going to give you a chance with the DID gone. Even though you hadn’t wanted to cry, feeling them hug you, hugging them back, the tears fell without your consent.
“I’d thought you’d hate me,” you whispered, even though you knew Eileen couldn’t hear you.
“You’re family, Y/N. We don’t hate you,” Charlie tried to reassure you, looking at Eileen so she could read her lips.
“She’s right,” Eileen added, “We don’t hate you.”
Eileen may have been deaf, but she could read lips, and still speak reasonably well for a deaf person. You’d learned sign language after meeting her, and you’d kept that after healing the DID.
“Now, let’s go have some drinks and get to know this new you,” Charlie chuckled, wiping the tears from your cheeks.
You managed to smile but looked more at the floor as you walked with the two of them to one of the tables. Eileen sat across from Charlie, and you sat next to Charlie but turned your chair so you were facing the two of them more so than the boys.
“I don’t even know where to start,” you chuckled, signing the words as you spoke them, making it easier for Eileen to follow the conversation.
“Sam kept us updated for most of it. How about you tell us how it feels without the DID?” Charlie asked fairly curiously.
You had to pretend that neither of the brothers was sitting at the table, thankful that you couldn’t see either of them with how you were sitting. You took a swig of the beer you’d grabbed off the table before you began, signing the words as you spoke.
“It’s weird. The thoughts in my head are mine. When I’m emotional, I can’t just go inside my head and let someone else take over,” you paused, taking a deep breath, as these were things you hadn’t shared with the brothers. After another swig of your beer, you continued.
“I kept some stuff from the personalities and got rid of the stuff that I didn’t want. I never want to hurt or abuse anyone again, so anything related to that I got rid of. I think the hardest part, at least in the beginning, was figuring out what I truly wanted.” You explained, this time taking a sip of your beer.
“That’s crazy,” Eileen said, fairly surprised.
“You gonna keep hunting?” Charlie asked.
“I honestly don’t know. Everything feels like it’s up in the air right now,” you answered, keeping things vague, but you caught the look Charlie shot Dean.
“Well, if you want to, you’re always welcome to come with us girls,” Charlie teased playfully.
“Yeah, leave the boys home to worry for a change,” Eileen added, giving Sam a look.
“Thanks,” you chuckled, “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Charlie took a sip of her beer and looked at you. “So, why did you take off like you did?”
You knew that question would eventually come up, “I was mostly scared. I was also overwhelmed by everything that came flooding forward. It was a lot,” you began, then looked down at your lap and sighed. “I was looking for Crowley. I figured since he was the king of hell, I could make a deal with him. Have the same things done to me or put through some kind of torture for what I’d done to those I care about. I thought… I thought that way, they could have retribution for what my personalities had done to them.”
Both girls gave the brothers a look, which you missed before Charlie spoke up again, “Hey. I’m willing to give you a chance. The old you never would have said that stuff, let alone meant it.” You felt her hand over one of yours, making you look up at her, and she saw the sadness in your eyes.
“And if that lug-head over there doesn’t want the new and improved you,” she glanced at Dean before looking back at you, winking, “I’d take you in a heartbeat.”
You swore you blushed to your toes, feeling completely embarrassed, and had to look away from her, “That’s sweet of you, Charlie. I’m uh… I’m not into girls,” you stuttered out, embarrassed.
She shrugged her shoulders and leaned back in her chair, taking her beer in hand, “That’s okay. I don’t mind playing with you and showing you a good time,” she teased you further, causing Eileen to laugh and your blush to deepen.
You were speechless and now needed something stronger than beer to calm your nerves. You were aware of the flirting that had gone on between a few of your personalities and Charlie, but you were not prepared for her to flirt with you. Out of the corner of your eye you saw the whiskey bottle on the table and grabbed it, taking a swig.
It burned a little going down, and you made a face as you set the bottle back on the table. Your heart was pounding in your chest again. You recognized the sign instantly as the beginning of a panic attack.
“Excuse me. I’ll be back in a minute,” you said calmly as you stood and walked to the kitchen.
You placed your hands on the table as you slid down into one of the seats, closing your eyes and focusing on your breathing. It took a few minutes, but you managed to calm down your racing heart and steady your breathing.
He didn’t say anything.
With a heavy heart, you walked back to the doorway when you heard them all talking. Some of it was hard to make out, so you got as close as possible without being seen.
“Seriously, Dean?!” Charlie snapped, “I’ve been around her for all of ten minutes and can tell she’s fucking different.”
“Even Cas is vouging for her,” Eileen added.
“It has to be some sort of game or trick,” Sam began to argue, but Eileen cut him off.
“Sam, Dean. She’s different. If she needs to stay somewhere else until both of you can see that, we’ll take her,” Eileen stated bluntly.
“I’m sure Jody would even take her in. That woman is perceptive, and even she’d be able to tell within the first five minutes that her DID is gone,” Charlie snapped at the brothers.
“Her personalities have done stuff like this before. I just… I can’t,” Dean tried to argue.
“I swear to Chuck, Dean. I know what her personalities put you through. Cas told us that she baked you a pie today and did your laundry, and about what she did in the room, you two shared. I don’t care what you think is going on. Anyone with half a brain cell can see she’s different,” Charlie persisted.
You sighed silently and walked into the library, “Thanks, Charlie, Eileen, for seeing me. Please, don’t force them though. And please, don’t be mean to them just because they haven’t seen what you guys do.” Your voice was quiet, and your gaze was again on the floor. “I wanted to have a nice evening with friends, family.”
Cas had stayed quiet during all of this. He’d said all he could say to them, and he was proud of you for defending the brothers, even though he saw how much their disbelief had been hurting you.
Charlie and Eileen finished their beers before standing, “Y/N, you have our numbers. Text either of us if you need a place to stay for the night or longer,” Charlie told you. Then, they both hugged you before they left. Eileen didn’t even kiss Sam beforehand. Your gaze hadn’t left the floor, not even when you heard the bunker door close behind the girls.
“Great! So now you have them tricked as well, and Eileen is pissed at me because of you,” Sam snapped, making you flinch.
“I’m sorry…” you practically whispered, feeling the waves of sadness wanting to drown you again.
“That’s enough,” Cas growled, which made you look up at him. Cas wasn’t angry often, but he looked pissed at the moment. “Just because you have your doubts doesn’t mean you get to be mean to Y/N. Same goes for you, Dean. She needs a healthy environment to finish healing in, as well as friends and family who are on her side while she does. If it’s too hard for the two of you, I’ll take her somewhere else.”
The brothers were speechless, and you felt the tears on your cheeks again. Cas had been their friend before he was ever yours, and now, he was standing up for you, against them. With a shaky breath, you walked over and set your hand on his shoulder.
“I appreciate this Cas. I really do, but… I’ll be okay here. Honestly, I probably deserve far worse, and if Karma decides, she’ll dish it out as she sees fit,” you told him quietly.
Karma and Fate were technically the same entity. You didn’t know if you were on their radar or if they would even bother with you, but you had to at least consider it, given your line of work.
“You don’t deserve that. It wasn’t you. You’re different. You’re not them-” Cas began, but you stopped him.
“That part doesn’t matter. Same face on the mugshot,” you replied quietly, then went to your room and closed the door behind you.
It had become your sanctuary at this point. You leaned against your door after locking it, letting your head fall back slowly till it met the door behind you.
Was I wrong with what I said? Should I have let them keep going, keep arguing? I don’t want to be the reason they fight with each other. They’re family. They’re each allowed to have their own opinions, thoughts.
You sighed and felt like you were stuck in a never-ending rut and no clue how to get out of it. You weren’t even sure how to proceed with Dean, as he’d made no move to be near you, let alone interact with you since that morning. And Sam acted like he would rather just kill you than give you any sort of chance.
Looking toward your closet, you thought about your bag that lay empty at the bottom of it.
Perhaps if I leave, things might be better for them, easier.
A groan left your lips in frustration as you sat down at your desk and pulled out your paper and pen, again writing out your thoughts before choosing any sort of action. You knew this was going to be hard, but going through it was something entirely different.
You understood how they felt toward you, more than you could even explain to either of them, even if Sam wouldn’t listen. When you wrote, you wrote as if you were writing to them, getting out everything you wanted to tell them or say to them. It helped far more than keeping a regular journal, but you had one like that, too.
Tears slipped from your cheeks while you wrote, allowing it all just to come out. At least Sam had been blunt with how he felt toward you. That at least let you know where you stood with him. Dean’s silence and distance had been the hardest.
You had no clue what was going through his head, but that was just how Dean worked. He had never been the best at sharing his emotions with others. He’d only done that with one of your personalities, her. The one you’d kept the most from.
That’s probably why it hurts so bad. I’m not her, but I’m like her, and he can see it, and it hurts him.
The thought brought more tears to the point where you had to pause writing and cry for a bit to get them out. You still had a couple hours before you’d be starting dinner and decided to just stay in your room until then. At least there, it was quiet.
Dean’s POV
He had no idea what to do since you’d told him what you had that morning when he’d been enjoying the pie you had made for him. Hell, he didn’t even know what to say about that. He couldn’t even manage to thank you for it.
Dean wanted so badly to believe Cas, but Sam had made a valid point; your personalities had done things like this before to lull him into a false sense of security. His mind and heart were at war, not only with each other but with themselves.
You were so much like her that it hurt not to be close to you, but it hurt to see it and experience your softness. So, after you’d gone to your room, he just sat there, sipping his whiskey, silently lost in his thoughts.
“Cas, how can you be one hundred percent sure that her DID is gone?” Sam asked almost angrily, which caused Dean to glance at him with his eyebrow raised.
“I’m an angel, Sam. I can see into her mind. There is literally no trace of her other personalities. It’s just her in there,” Cas answered, fairly annoyed.
“But she’s acting like them,” Sam argued.
Cas made a groan/sigh, “She chose what she wanted to keep and what she didn’t. Weren’t you paying attention earlier? Do you even care, or would you rather hate her because of her past that she had no control over?” He again made an aggravated groan before he stood up, placing both his hands on the table.
“Bobby was right when he called the two of you idjits. You are. You’ve both been able to forgive each other and move past the lies and deceit each of you has done to each other. All the two of you have wanted for the last ten years was for Y/N to find a way to heal from the DID. Now that she has, you want to kill her, and you will barely look at her,” Cas scolded them.
Cas typically didn’t get angry like this, and when neither brother said a word, he kept going, “I’m only going to give this one more week before I take her somewhere else. She needs encouragement, friendship, and family. You two need to wake the hell up and see her for who she is, not who she was.” With that, Cas disappeared from the library. Dean sighed and looked down at the glass of amber liquid in front of him. He had a point, and Dean knew that.
Can I dare to hope that she’s really different, that her personalities are really gone?
It was the question that continued to circle in his mind.
“Cas doesn’t usually get like that,” Sam said somewhat quietly, pulling Dean from his thoughts.
“Maybe he’s right. I mean, what if we give her at least one more chance?” Dean said just as quietly as Sam had.
Sam sighed, “I just can’t watch you go through all that again. I know you love her, at least that one personality she had. But…” he paused and glanced at the hallway, “...could you love her?”
Dean shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t know. She’s different, but there are certain similarities that I see, and… it hurts, you know. I just, I don’t know how much more it would hurt if she wasn’t here.”
The two were silent for a while. Dean sipped his whiskey, and Sam sipped his beer. Neither of them really knew what to say, not out loud, at least. It wasn’t until you walked through the war room and into the kitchen that Dean finally spoke up.
“I’m gonna at least talk to her. We’ve spent years reading people. We learned her quirks when she had DID. I’m going to learn what makes her different now that it’s gone,” Dean stated quietly as he looked toward the kitchen.
“Dean, just, don’t get your hopes up,” Sam tried to argue, but even he was having a hard time with that with what Cas had said.
“I’m not, Sam. I’m gonna treat her like she’s someone new, someone I don’t know and haven’t spent the last almost twenty years with,” Dean told him quietly.
“I don’t know if I can do that,” Sam remarked, fidgeting with his beer.
“I’m not asking you to, but no more being an ass to her. Cas was right about one thing. If he is right about her DID, she doesn’t deserve to be treated like she was the one who did those things,” Dean said flatly but seriously.
Dean finished his drink before he made his way into the kitchen, and he couldn’t help the smile when he smelled what you were cooking. He didn’t want to startle you, so he knocked on the doorframe, alerting you to his presence before he sat at the kitchen table, watching you.
Your POV
After writing out everything from in your head, you went to the kitchen to start dinner since it was close enough to time, and you were getting hungry. You saw the brothers still sitting in the library but said nothing as you went to the kitchen. Once the fries were in the oven, you started on the burgers and bacon.
He hadn’t said anything.
That thought, from Charlie's earlier words, was still bothering you, and you were still trying to shake it out of your mind. When you heard the knock on the doorframe, you did jump a little, but not as much as you would have if he hadn’t done that. You gave Dean a small smile before looking back at the food on the stove.
The silence was deafening the longer he just sat there and didn’t say anything, but you weren’t sure what to say to him at this point. You felt like you wanted to cry, and at the same time, you wanted to yell at him. It would have been easier if he’d just hate you, yell at you, and tell you to get out. But, he hadn’t done that either.
“Do you hate me, because I’m here and they’re gone?” you asked quietly, not looking over at him.
It had been something that had gone through his mind, more than he wanted to admit, “No. I don’t hate you. I wanted to. I even tried to,” he began, then sighed. “Then, this morning, you looked so happy, and you baked me pie,” he looked down at his hands clasped together on the table.
“I almost left again, earlier. I figured neither of you wanted me here anymore,” you confessed, flipping the burgers in the pan.
“Honestly, I’m afraid they’ll come back, and it’ll start all over again,” he confessed.
“If that happens, Sam’s already let me know he’ll shoot me, which I’m thankful for,” you replied, checking the bacon and fries.
“He what?” Dean asked, and you could hear the hint of anger in his tone, along with the shock of your revelation.
That made you look over at him, worried, “I don’t want to hurt anyone again. But, most of all, I don’t want to hurt you or Sam. I know you wouldn’t be able to do it. I just…” you turned from him when you felt the tears burn your eyes again. “...I can’t put you through that again.”
Whatever fight Dean had in him to keep his distance from you was gone at that moment, and he was behind you, holding you close. “Which personalities did you keep things from?” he asked you quietly.
You put the cheese on the burgers and turned off the oven and the burner on which the bacon was on. As you spoke, you put the bacon on the plate with the rest. “The kind ones,” you answered quietly, “I’m not them, though. I’m just like them in ways.”
Dean stepped back so you could finish taking care of dinner, leaning against the island and crossing his arms. “Is that why you’re cooking my favorite meal?” he asked.
“I wanted to do something nice for you. It’s hard to know what’s okay and what’s not. I don’t even know if you want me, since I’m not them,” you answered without looking at him, working on dinner.
You put the fries in a bowl, the burgers on a plate, the bacon on a plate, and then set the table for the three of you since Cas didn’t eat. Dean just watched you from where he’d been. You set your hands on the end of the table, your back to Dean.
“I just don’t know what I am to you, and I don’t want to push for anything. I honestly just want you to be happy and find some semblance of peace, even if that means without me,” you told him quietly before heading out of the kitchen.
Sam was still in the library, sipping another beer as you approached him, “Dinner’s done,” you told him from the archway between the library and the war room.
He picked up his beer and gave you what looked like a forced smile before he walked past you and into the kitchen. You sighed, letting your shoulders fall in a mild defeat, then headed to the kitchen as well.
Dean was sitting on the side of the table with two plates, setting up his plate when you walked in. When Sam went to sit next to him, he put his hand out, blocking the seat and motioned with his head for Sam to sit on the other side of the table.
You gingerly approached the table and sat down next to Dean. He still hadn’t shunned you, but he hadn’t exactly said much in the other direction either. “I hope you guys like it,” you said quietly and then made up your plate.
When Dean took a bite of his burger, he moaned at the taste and you couldn’t help the smile that brought to your lips. You ate a fry quickly, trying to hide how happy you felt with him enjoying something you made. Even Sam’s surprised expression brought you a sense of joy, but you stayed quiet and ate your dinner.
Dean and Sam had silent conversations with just a glance several different times during dinner. You didn’t need to ask if they liked it. You could see that they did, and that brought a small, content smile to your lips.
You smiled to yourself as you got up when you were done and began cleaning up. This was something you never would have done before. Sam and Dean just watched you for a moment before returning to eating. You cleaned up the counters and the island and realized that the two had finished eating.
“I got it,” you said softly and began cleaning up the table so you could start on the dishes.
“That’s different,” Sam barely whispered the words to Dean so you couldn’t hear.
Dean turned to look at you as you stood at the sink, washing the dishes, flabbergasted and speechless for a moment. There was one thing he could do that would give him insight as to whether or not the DID was gone, and he knew it. He took a deep breath, got up, and approached you.
His heart was pounding in his chest, and he tried not to second-guess himself or overthink what he was planning to do. He put his arms around your waist, holding you for a moment. You did jump slightly, but you didn’t pull away, yell at him, or get violent. You just leaned against him while you washed the dishes.
“Dinner was really good, Sweetheart,” he told you quietly, trying so hard not to hope, but it was getting harder and harder not to.
“I’m glad you liked it,” you replied softly.
It was comforting, feeling him hold you close like this. You just hoped that it was you he was holding and not the memory of them. He stayed there the entire time you spent washing the dishes, which made you smile a little.
When you put the final dish in the drainer and cleaned out the sink, he still hadn’t moved, and you weren’t sure what to do or say. You dried your hands on the lower part of your shirt, since the towel was out of reach without pulling away from him.
“Can we talk?” he finally asked you, and you felt that anxiety again as your body tensed. “Hey, if I wanted you gone, I’d say that. I just want to talk, I promise.”
You let out a shaky breath, “Okay. Where would you like to talk?” you asked nervously.
“I’d ask you where you felt more comfortable, but I have a feeling you’d want to be where I felt the most comfortable, huh?” he replied, pulling you a little closer.
“You’d be right,” you chuckled, unable to help yourself.
“Alright then. How about my room then?” he asked, raising an eyebrow, even if you couldn’t see his face with how he was holding you.
“I’m okay with that,” you replied, taking a deep breath.
“Then why do you seem nervous?” he asked.
“Cause I am. I can’t help it. I worry,” you answered honestly.
Dean kissed the top of your head before he moved away from you, but then he took your hand and led you to his room. Sam had gone to his own room a little while ago, needing to be alone, and Cas hadn’t returned yet.
He opened his door and let you go in first, then closed the door behind him, “You can sit where you’re comfortable,” he told you as he went over and sat in the chair at his desk, facing the bed.
You couldn’t hide your disappointment at the distance he put between the two of you, but you understood, at least to a point, why he needed it. So, you sat on the edge of his bed at the foot of it, cross-legged with your hands in your lap.
“Do you feel the same for me?” he asked, his straight-to-the-point question surprised you.
“I honestly don’t know. I know how they felt. I guess…” you trailed off, trying to find the right words as you looked into those emerald green eyes of his, searching for some sign of what he was hiding. “...I love you in my own way.” You looked down at your hands, feeling somewhat stupid after saying what you had.
“Can you explain what you mean by that?” he asked, his mask still up.
“Because of what Cas did, I don’t have all the memories right now. I do know that you never raised a hand to them, cheated on them, left them, or kicked them to the curb over the entire time. You tried, every chance you got, to help them deal with daily life and the DID. You even tried to help them get help so they could get better,” you explained quietly. The more you spoke, the more foolish you felt for falling for him through their memories. “That’s probably stupid, though, loving you for that sort of thing.”
You barely caught him tense, stopping himself from moving so he could sit next to you, “It’s not stupid. It’s kinda thoughtful, sweet.” he said softly.
“Thanks,” you said, slightly shyly, looking down at your lap again, trying not to smile, which wasn’t working very well.
“Look. I look at you, and yeah, I see them. However, I can tell that you’re different, and that’s probably the hardest part,” he began, and you looked up at him, unsure what to feel. “You act like her, but she’s gone. I know you aren’t them. I just…” he sighed, “...maybe I need to mourn them before I can move on.”
You felt your entire chest tighten, and it was hard to breathe again. “I can leave, if that would make it easier,” you told him quietly, focusing on your hands in your lap again. Looking at him hurt far too much at the moment.
“At least for a little while. I just need some time,” he told you.
All you could do was nod a little, unable to trust speaking, knowing you’d end up crying. You slowly stood and walked to his door, turning the knob and opening it. Your heart hoped he’d stop you, ask you to stay, but he didn’t, so you went to your room, closing your door behind you.
You crawled into bed and cried yourself to sleep. Just because you understood what he was going through didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. You didn’t want to stay with Eileen, Charlie, or Jody. You wanted to be alone in some dark hole where no one was. For now, though, you’d sleep, and figure it out in the morning.

Part 1 | Part 2
Carmilla sits up sharply at her desk, head swimming and thoughts racing from suddenly being jarred awake. The room is dark, and the large windows of her office show the expanse of Pentagram City at night, indicating the late hour. The streetlights, the ones that aren’t busted out, anyway, shine with an eerie orange-red hue that almost exaggerate the shadows around them. One poor soul stands nervously beneath one of them, as if he thinks the illumination will protect him out on the street in this damned city.
As if by thinking it, she’d set what happens next in motion, the leg of the small demon standing under the street light is suddenly yanked by a disembodied claw twice its size. The diminutive creature trips, landing in the dirt and screaming, clawing at the ground fruitlessly as the giant claw that has him quickly drags him into the shadows.
All is quiet again after that. Carmilla feels sorry for the poor creature, but everyone down here knows not to go out at night. And if one absolutely must, they usually know to stick to the shadows, quiet and out of sight. There are things living in those shadows, but it’s much safer than drawing attention to oneself by leaving them.
Carmilla sighs, stretching her back to reignite stiff bones and joints from when she’d been hunched over her desk. She soon realizes what’s awoken her when a small hand lands on her shoulder. An awkward, slight cough breaks the silence of the room, almost meek and timid, when it doesn’t have to be. It’s well past the working hour, and the girl knows she can let the pretense of professionalism go in Carmilla’s presence. She rarely does.
Carmilla smiles to herself, turning her head to look at her eldest daughter with sleepy eyes.
“Mom,” Odette says, shortly, matter-of-fact. “It’s late. I thought I should wake you, so you can go to bed. It’s not good for your back to sleep like that.”
Carmilla chuckles. Leave it to Odette to sweat the small things. Her eldest is such a worry wart, and cares so much about her mother. It’s exceedingly endearing.
“Thank you, mija,” Carmilla replies, standing tall out of her chair, reaching her arms above her head and giving her ligaments a proper stretch this time. “But what are you still doing here?”
Odette flushes, not expecting this question. Glancing over at the clock, Carmilla notices it’s almost midnight.
“I wanted to wait up for you,” Odette admits. “I didn’t want you going home alone.”
Carmilla stands in front of her daughter, noting the absence of her telltale lab coat. She’s left in her black turtleneck and practical work slacks. The least Odette could have done is go home and change out of her work clothes.
“I can always get Zestial to portal me home,” Carmilla replies, running her large claws through Odette’s golden hair, cupping the side of her girl’s face affectionately. Her daughter’s expression remains deadpan, devoid of emotion. Carmilla notices the bags under her eyes. Carmilla wonders if her daughter will ever learn to listen to her own advice, and take care of herself.
“Still…” Odette says, looking up at her. “Everyone else has left. I don’t like you being here alone. What if…?”
Carmilla smirks. “What if, what?”
Odette shakes her head, as if not even wanting to entertain the possibilities. “I just don’t like it.”
Carmilla bends down, running her claws through Odette’s hair again, and kissing the top of her head. She breathes in slowly, taking in the familiar scent of her girl, while Odette just stands there, taking it.
“Mom,” Odette quips, getting a little annoyed.
“Indulge me,” Carmilla answers, pulling Odette into a hug. Odette sighs into her mother’s chest, defeated. She’s never been a strong advocate for overt displays of affection. That’s more Clara’s thing. Even so, she will indulge her mother if she asks kindly. Carmilla squeezes her tightly, exaggerating the motion with a funny little “Mmmm!” sound. Odette groans again into her chest. She may not be an actual baby anymore, but to Carmilla, she will always be her little one.
It always brings her great enjoyment to remind her eldest of that fact. She’s tempted to pick her up and hold her, just to drive the point home. But Carmilla thinks better of it. Odette has been a grown woman for a while now, and continuing to infantilize her only makes her more distant. Even though Carmilla is still so much larger than her children, they are still strong and fierce in their own right. Odette, especially.
It’s so good to see them spread their wings, but it also makes her motherly heart ache.
Carmilla pulls away from her daughter, and Odette straightens her disheveled glasses that had been smushed to her face by Carmilla’s body. Carmilla begins gathering her things, and Odette breaks the silence again, a little more serious this time.
"Also," Odette says, clearing her throat. "Someone left a message on the call screener while you were out of it. It's not a number I recognized, so I let it go to voicemail."
"Thank you, darling," Carmilla replies, sorting through her stack of important papers and pocketing her keys. "I'll check it momentarily."
"Okay," Odette nods, “I’ll wait in the hall.” Turning on her heels, she walks out of the office like Carmilla’s little soldier.
Carmilla realizes she’s going to need to use both hands to get all the papers she needs for these new prototypes home. Rather than burden her daughter again by asking her to carry another mess, Carmilla narrows the stack down to just the most important ones, then turns her attention to the switchboard answering machine.
Flipping over a few screens, she notices she does indeed have a single voicemail waiting for her. Pressing play, she presses the speaker button and settles into her chair, steeling herself for another incessant tirade from the Vees, or another request from Katie Killjoy wanting to know the details of Carmilla’s generous “donation” to the Hazbin Hotel right before the Extermination.
Carmilla hears none of these. In fact, she almost doesn’t recognize the voice she does hear, because it’s been so long since she’s heard it.
“Hello, Carmilla,” the soft, dulcet tone says over the tinny speaker of her office phone. The voice pauses, as if knowing that Carmilla will need a few seconds to compose herself after it dawns on her who is calling. “It’s Sera. I know you’re probably terribly concerned to hear from me again. I assure you, it’s for a good reason. Please sit down before you listen to this.”
Carmilla is already sitting. She’s grateful for that, because otherwise, she may have ended up on the floor. Her claws grip the plush leather on the arms of her office chair; it takes everything in her not to rip right through the fabric. Her teeth clench, biting her tongue so hard, tears start forming in her eyes.
“There’s been a development,” Sera continues. “This may seem inconceivable, but please listen. It appears that the child of the Morningstar was…well, after the Extermination, someone…It appears that Lucifer’s daughter has accomplished something no one thought possible. A soul that perished during the Extermination has somehow manifested here in Heaven. Right now, only you, myself, and another of my…associates are aware of the implications. I’d like to keep it that way.”
Carmilla is beside herself with emotion. She’s doing her best to pay attention to the words, but she’s still so focused on the fact that it’s Sera who’s calling her. The news that one of Charlie’s patrons may have ascended is surprising; but honestly, it would have to be something exceedingly miraculous such as this for Sera to get her involved. In that case, it must be true, at least as far as Sera knows.
“Things are tenuous here in Heaven,” Sera explains, admitting more than she probably should to Carmilla in that moment. That news doesn’t surprise Carmilla. Things have been less than stable in Heaven for much longer than the realm’s leadership cares to acknowledge. “As I’m sure you’re aware by now, Adam is gone. His army is restless. Heaven hasn’t faced this much uncertainty in millennia, and I fear this is only the beginning of more problems for Hell. The elders are worried about an all-out war. This factor of redemption may send everyone over the edge. I need…I can’t go to Lucifer for this. I don’t know where else to turn.”
Sera pauses again, as if the next part is physically painful for her to get out. She sighs, and her voice trembles, with some degree of grieving.
“I could use your council. I am on very thin ice here. Please, I — there’s no one else I trust more, Carmilla. There never was. I’m sorry for everything that’s happened between us, but — can we meet? In person?”
