Where are you watching the recut One Piece version? It sounds super cool, the Dressrossa arc in the anime really was p unbearable.

It is fantastic, to be honest.

For the uninitiated, the One Piece anime can draaaaaaaaag like hell. See, it's a weekly episode, and they don't want to get too far ahead of the manga. They've often done this through periodic filler arcs which range from terrible to awesome. But in the later years, they've just stretched everything out in a way that makes the show almost impossible to watch.

For example, an arc towards the beginning, Skypeia, was chapters 219-302 in the manga, so 83 chapters, and was made into 52 episodes. A later arc, Fishman Island, was chapters 602-653, 51 chapters ... which was made in 62 episodes. Yeah, that's right. 32 chapters SHORTER in the manga, ten episodes LONGER in the anime. So that's what I'm talking about when I say that the pacing in One Piece grew unbearable, and why I don't generally recommend the anime even if someone loved the Live Action.

Last week I discovered One Pace, which is where some dedicated fans are doing the Lord's work in cutting the anime down to fix the pacing. For a really good example of what I'm talking about for One Piece fans or just people who are into video editing, check out this side-by-side comparison.

It is, may I say, fantastic. The editing is really well done, I haven't felt like anything was missing from the manga or didn't make sense. Fishman Island, which I mentioned earlier, was cut from 62 episodes down to 24. Which sounds insane until you look at the ratio from Skypeia and realize it's actually not that extreme. 83 chapters to 52 episodes = 1.59 chapters per episode, 51 chapters to 24 episodes = 2.12 chapters per episode, and One Pace episodes tend to vary in length and are anywhere between 20-30 minutes, so once that is figured in, the ratio is just about right.

Occasionally there's a weird fade or a blip in the music but overall it is really, really well done and I highly recommend it for One Piece fans. The only caveat is that some of the earlier arcs aren't finished yet. Those were obviously a lower priority as they needed a lot less work, so much of the first few arcs hasn't been done yet. Therefore it's not really for newcomers to One Piece - it's more for people who gave up on the anime, like I did, because of the pacing.

also I know we haven’t got there yet but that elevator scene is as heartbreaking as the actual breakup. like I’ve seen parallels that try to compare this to the clace scene a few episodes ago when clary finds out she isn’t related to jace. but the only thing they have in common is that one person gets on an elevator- NOTHING ELSE. Alec is crying while jace just looks stone faced, and clary looks more mad while Magnus looks like his heart just shattered into a trillion pieces. I’m not a fan of clary and jace obviously and their acting doesn’t help matters. I’m not trying to be a bitch but their acting doesn’t make me feel anything

I don’t like seeing it compared because with the Malec scene, that is one of the most gut wrenching scenes of all time. I think season three breakup hurts more but this one is pretty close. and with the clace scene, it’s just nothing???? sorry not sorry if you’re a clace fan (is anyone actually a fan who reads my stuff?????) but that clace scene isn’t that heartbreaking in my opinion

I am trying to watch Naruto, and this show has an egregious amount of filler. Now, I am still watching the original Naruto series that spaces it out terribly, but still, the ratio of cannon to filler is insane.

I want numbers to back up my complaining, so I did some math.

So, the original Naruto series has 220 episodes, 90 of which are filler.

Episodes 1-142 contain 13 filler episodes. 2 of them are standalone, while the other 11 make up 2 separate arcs. Episodes 143-219 are all filler. They contain 15 whole filler arcs.

This means that 40,9% of the original Naruto series is made up of filler episodes. (90/220≈0,409*100=40,9%)

Now, the Naruto: Shippuden series has 500 episodes, and 203 of them are filler.

I have to acknowledge, though, that they are better spread out.

This means that 40,6% of the Naruto: Shippuden series is filler episodes. (203/500=0,406*100=40,6%)

Episodes 1-100 contain 25 filler episodes, all of which are parts of arcs. Episodes 101-200 have 43 filler episodes, and 2 of them are standalone episodes. Episodes 201-300 contain 40 filler episodes, and 5 are not a part of arcs. Episodes 301-400 have 45 filler episodes, including 5 standalone episodes. Episodes 401-500 have 50 filler episodes, and just 2 of them stand alone.

If we put all those number together, we get that all of the animated Naruto content comes out to 720 episodes and that 293 of them are filler.

So 40,69% out of all the animated Naruto content is filler. (293/720≈0,4069*100=40,69%)

And just for good measure, we can compare it to both the other "Big 3" members.

One piece as of today has 1118 episodes, out of which only 96 are filler. So only 8,5% of it is filler episodes. (96/1118≈0,085*100=8,5%)

Bleach today stands at 366 episodes, and 165 of them are filler episodes. So a staggering 45% of Bleach is filler. (165/366≈0,450*100=45%)

I Love Yoo Episode 219 Analysis

There is so much to say about this episode and I can definitely say with confidence that this is one of my favorite episodes by far. Before I begin to analyze, I do want to talk about how much this episode means to me. As someone who relates to Nol, seeing him finally at ease made me feel like I was capable of being so as well. Quimchee does such a phenomenal job in portraying emotion, and with this episode, Nol’s joy is no exception. The joy that he felt when he saw everyone filled me with joy as well, and I think that that is truly so special. This webtoon is so special to me. There has not been any piece of media that has impacted me as much as I Love Yoo has, and this episode confirmed that this obsession will not be dying any time soon.

Now onto the analyzing!

As I had stated earlier, there is so much to say about this episode. For organization purposes, I will just speak on parts of the episode as they progress. So to start, Shin-ae, Dieter, and Soushi doing this for Nol is truly so heartwarming. We all know that Nol has been through an extremely rough time lately and so this gesture, even if not properly planned, is truly touching. On top of that, we are aware that Nol despises his own birthday. For years, he has been spending it alone. For years, he has been told that his birth in itself was a mistake and according to Rand it literally was cxweinujklqx. And so having people that he genuinely loves be there and reassure him that his life means something to them must impact him greatly.

Moving along, I want to talk about the sunrise. As dawn creeps up upon them, we see these panels of Lil Buddy sleeping. Now I know that this could just be a reach it definitely is, but I felt as if Lil Buddy’s fur color could represent something. I had multiple ideas such as: a Yin Yang allusion, the black and white representing Nol and Shin-ae, and the two colors representing Nol and Yeong-gi. For right now, I want to speak on what this could mean if it were about Nol and Yeong-gi. This entire arc thus far has been about the relationship between Nol and Kousuke, and Nol and himself. With that in mind, I want to bring up this line that Hansuke had said back in episode 175.

This line was said after Rand had finally shown some sort of concern towards Kousuke. Here, we see the sun already gone with the night following. For Kousuke, this affection is a “dead end”. In contrast, we have Nol receiving affection from his friends and the sun rising with dawn following. This is a new beginning. The sun that sheds onto those panels of Lil Buddy could be a new beginning for Nol. Ultimately Nol and Yeong-gi will have to coexist for Nol to be at his full potential, and I think these panels show that we are leading up to that. Alongside this reach of a statement, I do just want to comment on how comforting these panels of Lil Buddy are. Lil Buddy seems at ease just like everyone else seems to be right now. This is the first time in a while that Nol and Shin-ae specifically have seemed calm. There is no tension anymore, there is only the comfort that they have with each other.

Speaking of comfort, obviously I have to talk about how Shin-ae and Nol are each other’s comfort. This talk in particular will be really long for obvious reasons so bare with me here. After Nol explains as to why he is not a fan of his birthday, he reaches over to Shin-ae’s ear. This act in itself already speaks volumes. Nol managed to get so close to her scar, her scar that she has been attempting to hide for so long, don’t you guys think that that is so meaningful? Back in episode 180, Nol had made an attempt to get close to her scar and failed. Shin-ae was so adamant on nobody touching her scar.

But that’s exactly it. Nobody is allowed to touch that. The fact is, Nol did do that again, and Nol is that nobody who is allowed to touch it. Now referring back to 219, you can see in Shin-ae’s face that she was startled by Nol’s actions. He actually got close to her scar again but rather than refusing, she accepted it. This is just the first layer of vulnerability that they had achieved within this episode.

One thing that separated these two within the more recent arcs was distance, both literally and figuratively. I made a post a while back about Shadows in I love Yoo, and with my last bit of analysis, I mentioned that Nol attempted to literally be on the same footing as Shin-ae. He walked up the hill, he climbed up the balcony just to be on par with Shin-ae. With every passing episode, these two physically become closer and closer emphasizing their growing relationship. Nol has been closing the distance between them physically and we see this even more within this panel in episode 219.

This is the second layer of vulnerability that they have achieved. The distance between them is finally closing, and though it may be a little late, it is evident that they want to maintain this distance for as long as they can. Today, Nol is supposed to leave; He is supposed to expand the gap between them yet again. So while they are close, they both want to treasure that closeness until the very last second.

In these last seconds, we hear Christmas music. And as Shin-ae says, “some people dance and sing along to Christmas music. Obviously she is alluding to the time back in episode 206, where Nol states that he and his mother would “start singing along and dancing…” to Christmas music.

That tradition that Nol had with his mother is very clearly special to him; Though he says that it is a distant memory, it is clear that he cherishes said memory. For Shin-ae to relive that memory that Nol once had with his mother is another level of love. Whether you find that love to be platonic or romantic between them, there is no doubt that Shin-ae and Nol love each other. All of these acts leading up to this episode are acts of love, and I think that this act in particular has been the strongest.

Straying away from Nol and Shin-ae for a bit, I want to analyze the music a bit. In particular, I want to analyze the song, “Silent Night” that plays in the background during this vulnerable moment. Ultimately, this song is about the praise and arrival of Jesus Christ. Why is this significant? Well it’s because throughout this part arc, we see Nol be alluded to Jesus Christ himself. We see it in episode 170 when he emerges from the waters similar to a baptism, and we see it in episode 173 when Nol lays in a fetal position similar to a rebirth in some sense.

The sole purpose of baptisms is to identify and mark with Christ’s death and resurrection. This entire concept is identical to Nol’s situation with Yeong-gi. Back to the song itself, I want to analyze the lyrics. The first lines are “Silent night, holy night” and this could be taken literally and figuratively. It is literally a silent night; Dieter and Soushi are both sleeping, and there is only the sound of Shin-ae’s comforting silence and I guess Soushi’s snoring fejknvjhlbk. The holiness of the night would regard Nol and his identity. The following lyrics go as followed: “All is calm, all is bright”. Again, the night truly is silent and calming. There is nothing but the comfort that they all bring to each other. With the “bright” lyric, I want to bring back the panels with Lil Buddy. There, we see the light of the sun appear onto Lil Buddy’s fur representing a new beginning. This new beginning could also refer to the birth of Nol and of course, the birth of Jesus Christ which is what the song Silent Night is all about. With that in mind, I want to bring up these last lyrics that go: “Radiant beams from Thy holy face, With dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus Lord at thy birth”. This might be getting repetitive sorry cbuxiejcnjl but again, those panels of Lil Buddy exemplify these lyrics perfectly. If Lil Buddy were to be representing Nol in those panels, we could see the “radiant beams” on his face, we could see the “dawn of redeeming grace”, and we could see Jesus be born. The other lyrics within this song do have significance as well, however, I found these lines to hold the most meaning.

Back to the episode itself, we now see Shin-ae and Nol finger dance. Before I analyze anything, I just want to say that this actually made me go crazy oh my goodness. Characters dancing together always has my heart but finger dancing?! That is literally the cutest thing ever. Anywho, I more so want to talk about what happens after the finger dance. Once Nol gets a hold of her finger, he tells Shin-ae to take her shoes off.

This is the last level of vulnerability between the two within this episode. When Nol was at the party, we notice him without shoes or socks. During that time, we see him begin to be vulnerable. Not only with Shin-ae, but with himself as well. From this, we can determine that lack of clothing, or in this case, shoes, represents vulnerability. With Nol telling that to Shin-ae, it’s almost as if he is telling her to be vulnerable with him. His expression within this panel also shows how serious he is about this matter. He really means it when he says this. I believe I saw someone on reddit say this but another interpretation for this line could be that Nol is telling Shin-ae that he doesn’t want her to run away from him any longer. After everything they have been through, he doesn’t want there to be anymore running. The distance they have now is closed, and he doesn’t want that gap to close ever again.

And that’s all! Man. This episode is seriously so great and I am so ecstatic to see Nol finally be even the slightest bit happy for once. All of them, including Soushi and Dieter, have been through so much together and to see them enjoy each other’s presence one last time makes me so emotional :’-)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

 I think I always end up with a kind of mixed emotion ending like Best Laid Plans or Our Soulmate Academia, so it's difficult to remember the truly happy ones. The most recent happy ending would be The Mystery in the Fog (ACD!Holmes) where Holmes and Watson end up at the same secret wedding of an underground queer club they're both members of unbeknownst to each other and have some revelations

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sometimes I do. The most infamous incident was the time I wrote a fic speculating on who Castiel's vessel might have been before I got to Jimmy's episode in my binge watch back in the day. The reviewer went into gruesome detail on how I was going to burn in Hell for my fic. It was unreal. I just deleted the fic and then went on to write several more SPN fics as you do.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've written smut a handful of times for fics and more often than that for RP since that's part of the RP culture I fell into in university. Most of my smut fics have been orphaned now, but the one that remains is Swallow My Fang at Night Island (Interview with the Vampire (AMC)) I approach smut like I approach fight scenes so I can keep track of the flow of action. I keep my own personal kinks out of it and try to write a scene I think the audience would look for instead

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I've written 15 crossovers. I enjoy them tbh. In terms of plot, the craziest one I wrote was Distortion (BBC Sherlock/My Life in Film) where Jones was hired to play Moriarty and things get way too real. In terms of titles crossed over, the craziest one is probably The Hokage (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle/Naruto)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, ages ago. It's why I'm my own beta reader or Kitty Britpicks me because I can trust her

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I had some requests but I've never been alerted to the final products

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

My brother and I regularly cowrote fics together when I was in high school and he was in middle school. If you ever read a Trigun script-based crack fic in the 00's with the phrase "Love and peace! Doves and geese! Change the world!" or "Another carnival ride with cotton candy," that was us.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

I don't think I actually have one because I'm a multi-shipper and I have so many favorites. That said, it might be inuyasha/Kagome since I always had an Inuyasha fic in rotation (usually more than one though) from 2001 - 2007 or so. Unfortunately they've all been lost to time. According to my AO3 relationship toggle in the filters sidebar, it's Destiel (7) and Devil's Minion (7)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have a BnHA fic from before we learned what Hagukure's powers were where she sent Class-A and Aizawa back in time to Yagi's high school years to do a kind of Tenchi in Love (1996) type of plot where they had to stop a time traveler from murdering Yagi. I wrote quite a bit of it but it stalled on me when Midoriy and Nana interacted and I wasn't completely sure how to get that to work

16. What are your writing strengths?

The most consistent thing I get complimented on are my fight sequences, which is why it's sad I lost all my IY fics because I wrote so many fights for them

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

My memory is a sieve and some of the holes are too big

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done it before because I was a weeb and it was a trend in the 00's. Not sure I'd do it again now that I've matured past that.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically fairytales. I retold Cinderella when I was so little my mom had to write it down for me because I couldn't write yet. I drew pictures to go with the narration

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

The Land Across the Sea (Black Clover/Boruto) - Boruto ride a tsunami to Clover Kingdom and the knights have to take him back home, which is also Yami's homeland.

I got the idea for this fic when a friend and I were talking about what we'd want the Black Clover movie to be about when it was first announced. Then I took my idea of Yami getting to return to his homeland and made it a crossover because I like the idea of Yami and Naruto knowing each other from back in the day.

Shhh, yes. I’m pushing the next Doctor Who episode back another day. It’s my nostalgia tour and I can do what I want. John Walker: a study in story framing, character archetype, established canon details, and audience manipulation

There’s been a ton of discourse surrounding the character of John Walker, everyone has a lot of opinions. But having read many articles, posts, tweets, and watched reaction channels and video essays, I have found a common theme among them: a fundamental misunderstanding of the character due to the story framing.

In fact, the character of John Walker that exists in fandom discussions is more of a projection of what people think he is and what people want him to stand in for rather than the actual canonically established character that exists in the story of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This is why I have decided to write this post along with an episode-by-episode breakdown, because I think John Walker the character has been completely eclipsed by John Walker the symbol, lost underneath the iconography that he’s been associated with and not really given a fair look as an individual person.

I should make it clear upfront; it is not my intention with this to tell people how they should feel about a character. Whether you agree with my points or not doesn’t really matter. My hope is that this at the very least provides you with a different perspective on the character and his motivations. Maybe have you consider him in a new way.

So, let’s start from the beginning.

EPISODE 1

Story framing is important, it effects our perspective as an audience, and it is deliberately controlled by the writers and filmmakers to manipulate certain emotions and impressions out of us. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier expertly does this from the very beginning by framing John Walker immediately as someone whom we should not want.

Because the music is mournful and ominous despite the celebratory occasion shown on TV.

Because Sarah is upset.

Because Sam has his fists clenched and is unhappy and suspicious, and then closes his eyes in upset.

Because when dialogues like this is delivered, the show is purposefully playing into real life iconography and feelings that already raises our hackles.

Because Sam retired the shield and the hero position, so when someone else seemingly carelessly and casually steps in waving like a propaganda piece with a gun on his hip, and a grey flag symbol that looks so close to the thin blue line flag used by cops, there is something unsettling to us even if we didn’t consciously pick up on it, we just know that it goes against what we want and what our main protagonist wants. 

Because this strange person in a Cap costume winking looks like a jerk. We didn’t ask for this. 

As it’s always said, first impressions are important. How someone first perceives you decides how someone might judge anything that you do. If someone thinks you’re an arrogant jerk, then anything you do will be colored by that impression and they will never think well of your intentions. But if their first impression of you is kind and caring, then any mistakes you made is automatically given leeway because your intentions would be well considered. And in one fell swoop, the show firmly planted into the minds of every single person watching that John Walker is an arrogant jerk espousing propaganda no one wants and everything he does is automatically suspect and questionable. 

In fact, they even go the extra step to make that very clear by how the cast credits is used. Notice the difference between the image of Walker in Episode 1 and Episode 2-6?

The red mark over his eyes, blocking him from us, not only feels foreboding, it feels as if it’s warning us. 

So, when I say that John Walker was from the beginning set up to fail, it’s because he was, the story intended for it to be. We have to hate, question, suspect, and think the worst of Walker in order for Sam’s eventual reclaiming of the shield to mean anything or have that emotional catharsis. Because nobody wants to see Sam take the shield from a nice dude, it would be bittersweet or even mean, but if the story tells us that this guy is someone we can dislike or hate right off the bat because there is something vaguely “bad” about him, then we would root for Sam to take that shield.

There is a reason we don’t get Walker’s perspective at all in his introduction. He’s just this stranger we’ve been programmed as an audience to hate. We are not treated to Walker waiting to go outside and feeling nervous, or Walker doubting himself or perhaps even not wanting to take up the shield at first when it was given to him. The purposeful lack of his perspective is done so we only feel the weight of emotions from the Wilsons being upset, because we must relate to the protagonists.

Walker is not the hero of this story, he’s not the protagonist of this story, if he was, then the story would have framed his unveiling as Captain America in a completely different way, and we would have been treated to a sympathetic look at what he was feeling about taking on the shield, we would have had an inside look at his mindset before he walked out there and looked into that camera and winked. But because we the audience lack that important context that was deliberately kept away from us, our views on Walker formed and solidified without it, and then we all stewed on those feelings for a whole week. 

By the time Episode 2 rolled around to open with Walker’s perspective, the damage was already done, it was too late, because people had already made up their mind about what kind of a person he was, and even those who might have given him a chance was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. 

The show had very clearly made sure that John Walker was always going to have an uphill battle in the eyes of the fans, however fairly or unfairly. And that deliberate and purposeful removal of his perspective and context would be the key to how the character will be misread. Because the reality is, Walker hasn’t even done anything wrong yet and people have already made assumptions just because of one wink, just because of his mere presence. There was no objective consideration that Walker winked because he understood having to put on a cheerful public facade, no consideration that he could have been told to play along nicely for the cameras and directed to look there and wink, no consideration that he didn’t ask for this job but was ordered to do so and is as much a “victim” of the government as Sam. Because the show had already used every trick in the book to make us feel bad and ominous about his presence, the audience would automatically assume the worst.

In episode 219, the Gathering of the Detectives! Shinichi Kudou vs. Kaitou Kid, you can tell, spoilers for something twenty years old ahead, the Conan knows that Kid is Kogoro. Otherwise, he never would’ve been so openly intelligent. You can tell from the scene he deduces everything, when one detective mentions that it was Conan’s idea for them all to pretend to die to bait the murderer out. Conan wouldn’t have made such a plan to the others if he didn’t know Kid was disguised as Kogoro.

But, more than that, I love the subtle hints they put in that Kid is disguised as Kogoro. The fact he doesn’t smoke while they’re there. How serious he takes everything is very against his personality, even if you think he’d act like that in such a tense situation. That early in the series, Kogoro really was still the worst at taking serious things seriously. But, it goes even further than that. For most of the series, one of the only good things about Kogoro is how protective he is of his daughter, whether consciously or subconsciously. I don’t think he would’ve let them sit seperately, even if they did play a game to decide seating. Who would begrudge a detective who wants to sit by his daughter during a high stress situation where they’re all in danger? The fact that he doesn’t is telling.

Kogoro as a character is a dick. He’s loud and obnoxious and we all know it. In this episode, he’s oddly laidback. Disguising as Kogoro also means that Kid doesn’t have to be an expert detective, because anyone who’s spent anytime around Kogoro knows that it’s a miracle he ever got a detective job in the first place. He purposefully doesn’t spend much time with Ran and Conan (look how well spending time with Conan has turned out in the past) by sitting apart from them and leaving in the car with the other two. You could view Senma askign for a ride as a blessing for him, since it meant there was less time for him to talk to Ran and Conan.

I love the subtle tricks they put in the show. Earlier in the show, episodes 132-134, you can see how Kaitou Kid would start to piece together that Conan is more than just a weirdly intelligent small child. He can see, from the house, that Conan is hiding behind the tree talking for Sonoko, because otherwise we wouldn’t have so many shots focused on Conan walking to the back of the tree. Shinichi and Kaito are both showmen in their own way, which is why Conan plays it fast and loose pretending to be a child and always does a pretty bad job of it, while Kaito pulls off the performance near flawlessly so the reveal is all the more shocking.

Shinichi is so bad at pretending to be a child that he straight up confronts Kid in the house, while he was talking for Sonoko in the hall of the house. And people wonder why Conan has been found out by so many people and Kid hasn’t.

One thing I love is when Kid, disguised as a random medical student/magic nerd, pops into existence to shoot the bowgun for Ran, making him the most suspicious person in the world as he says “I have experience with this.” You know, as all non-criminal, completely innocent people do. The scene where he randomly punches the ground gets me everytime. It’s so weird. It’s so out of left field. And we know, after the fact, that it’s just Kaito being upset because a magician died and he didn’t want that to happen, but it’s so jarring in the moment that it’s really funny.

We know the culprit from the second part, because Conan outright explains how she could be the culprit while pretending to be a dumb child. But Kaitou Kid is so bad at pretending to be an innocent civilian, he straight up ends up being the most convincing red herring of them all. His only good quality is that he has an airtight alibi, but he’s so good at coming across as a criminal, it’s really a talent.

None of this has any order, but to completely jump ship, I want to talk about Akako. Akako is straight up a witch, confirmed. She knows the future, she talks with Lucifer, she straight up is actually magic and the show, any of the shows, never explain why this one character is actually a witch. I love her. Anyway, her Jii both have scenes warning Kaito. Akako warns him about Shinichi, with her vague-but-clear fortune about the clock. It’s also where she calls him like a devil or demon or something and I sit there thinking “Akako, he’s only seventeen, give him a bit of a break, please.” But then Jii, right before Kaito goes to do the heist he was introduced in, is like “I have a bad feeling about this.” Jii invoked Akako’s name, somehow, and his ‘oh no shinichi kudou’ senses started tingling. Kaito: “What could possibly go wrong? It’s not like there will be a small child waiting on the roof for me to ruin my plans. That would be silly.” (Okay, he doesn’t say that, but it always passes through my mind)

From the very first episode Kaitou Kid is introduced, Conan has a spidey sense for his presence. This sense comes back in every episode with Kaito in it. It is truly unfortunate that Kaito doesn’t have a ‘Kudou Shinichi will be there so I should cancel’ sense. It would help him a lot. The way it’s shot in the series, however, makes it seem like Conan can just feel Kaito looking at him. There are similar scenes elsewhere where he can tell someone’s looking at him, so it makes it seem like Kaito is just increibly nervous and/or curious about this small child and so stares at him. Which is why it kind of makes sense that he chooses to disguise himself as Ran, then as Kogoro. And, when Conan runs back into the house during the mystery fan murders, he passes out with a fever. Kaito as Doi comes in and helps, and says that he studies medicine, but it’s a fact he pulled out of thin air since Sonoko, who had a lot of contact with him prior, didn’t know about it. Kaito must be taking those warnings about demons more seriously.

Anyway, what was the point? I love Kaitou Kid. I love that Kaitou Kid I decided to name his child Kaito. I love Conan. I love how bad Shinichi is at acting like a child and how evil he comes across in these episodes. I love their dumb relationship where Kaito tries to keep his poker face and Shinichi just pokes and prods and tries to bug him. I love them, in short, and I think Kaitou Kid episodes are the best. I also think it’s funny that a bunch of the episodes about the infamous jewel thief have murder in them.
