Rewatching one piece 3d2y and thinking about luffy and the 3 times the strawhats came into his mind, and i can't stop thinking about the order(?) of it....

one thing i never talk about but am always thinking about is zolu's reunion after 3d2y. the rush of euphoria on finally seeing each other. trying to take in all changes on each other amidst all the running and excitement. zoro checking to see that luffy's smile is still just as bright. both their hearts stopping for a second on seeing each other's respective new scars. but somehow, they are okay, alright now. checking out each other's changes in clothing and liking it, getting even more excited about taking it off later. sending a gentle, experimental wave of haki at each other and the delight at getting a response, getting to feel on a deeper level. zolu lingering by each other on their way to fishman island, always within reach. catching up on everything and nothing. small touches, brushes of skin with a promise for more when their new adventure is done. both heading to captain's quarters the moment things finally calm down. luffy's tight hold because he never wants to let go again, and zoro returning it. luffy's erratic heartbeat and zoro's soothing touches, taking his time to satisfy 2 years worth of craving and waiting. zolu finally feeling like they are back home.

It makes me Feel Some Type of Way that Luffy chose to send the "3D2Y" message to his crew by writing it on his arm.

He could have done that in many different ways like a holding a sign or a flag with the message. And yet he made it a 'tattoo' on his upper arm.

And it honestly seemed... familiar? Where have I seen something like this before??

Then it hit me. It reminds me of another upper arm tattoo in the series...

Luffy's 3D2Y tattoo mirroring Ace's tattoo is soooo... makes me want to walk into the ocean.

Whats Luffys tattoo say?

It's his 3D2Y mark from post-marineford!

A promise he'll see his friends again, of course, but also a reminder to never fail like he did two years ago... It works both as a representation of his defeat, but also his resolve. Bonus points because it's reminiscent of Ace's tattoo!

(Of course, he also has the Alabasta X!)
