spiderman! eren hcs
a/n: eren as spiderman bc i miss miles also might make this a series let me know!!!
- before eren gets his powers you guys are friends, friends who "make googly eyes at each other" quoting armin. hes too shy to actually make a move and you can never figure out what he's really thinking.
- he gets his powers when your class takes a trip to one of the biggest science labs ever, he gets invested in one of the machines and bumps into an employee who was carrying a box one of the radioactive spiders escaped and bit him.
- freaked tf out when he got a sudden pain on his hand and seeing a scary spider, he let out a yelp and slapped his hand to kill it not wanting to make a big deal bc you were there.
- the next day was rough, he was brushing his teeth and when he went to put his toothbrush down it stuck to his hand then when he finally got that unstuck his hand got stuck to the wall.
- later that day you and him were in the library you both happen to grab the same book your hands touching AND HIS HAND STUCK TO YOURS. he was soso embarrassed he was struggling so hard to get unstuck he said he had used superglue that day and it must still be some on his hands.
- he snuck into the research lab that night to try and figure out what exactly is happening with him, getting stuck on mostly everything and almost knocking everything over.
- he finally understands (a bit) what is happening and decides to test out all of his powers he goes to abandoned buildings and junkyards.
- he tells armin first about what happened to him, armin is the one who proposes the idea of becoming a vigilante and helps eren in designing a suit.
- this is when they tell mikasa and she helps them make the suit. mikasa compares eren to a spider and says he needs a web shooter and they get to WORK.
- the first time eren saves someone is when a women gets her purse snatched from her (soo cliche) and he tracks the guy down saving the day woo.
- the first time he saved you is when he's swinging around and he spots you walking home with a bag of groceries, youre walking across the street when a car comes full speed ignoring the red light. too fast for you to react he swoops in carrying you to the sidewalk.
"uh are you okay?" he says making his voice deeper coughing awkwardly. handing you the bag he took from you.
"thank you" you say quietly, still in shock.
- he was so nervous when he went to school the next day, are you okay? what if you figured out it was him? did you hate him for touching you?
- he was shocked when you were beaming telling your friends about the guy in a funny suit saved you, he overheard them asking if you were okay bc um thats scary?? but you brushed them off saying you were fine.
- his first really really bad guy got the police looking at him and the captain (your dad hehe) was nottttt pleased that there was a masked man with powers on the loose.
- eren asked you to the dance (finally) and he was so nervous was almost avoiding you the whole week leading up to it, he picked you up and officially met your dad (as eren yeager).
- eren was shocked the police captain was your father, they both greeted each other and your dad let eren in when your mother walked in introducing herself. on the news he saw himself (spiderman) swinging across the city and your dad went on a rant abt how he hated that guy.
"he's not a bad guy dad he saves lives just like you but he doesn't get paid" you say walking in waving to eren. he holds in his laugh at your comment defending spiderman.
"if hes a good guy why hide" your dad shoots back but before you could argue.
"oh hush picture time!" your mom says holding her phone up, shooing you go stand next to eren.
- at the dance a villain crashes in, you watch as eren runs into the hallway as everyone scatters to safety and spiderman appears.
"so you finally show up spiderman?" the villain says trying to grab him.
"you went through all this trouble for little old me, how could i not?" eren says throwing punches.
- eren does obtain the guy and waits until your dad gets there to greet him, you run up to where they both are thanking eren (spiderman) and you dad gives him a stiff nod taking the guy.
"we meet again."
"we do."

⤷ AN EIGHT-LEGGED PROBLEM

OIKAWA TOORU & SAKUSA KIYOOMI & HAIBA LEV & MIYA ATSUMU X READER -> 1.8K
you save your boyfriend from a massive problem which is currently in the corner of your bathroom )

REQUEST -> n/a
CONTAINS -> spiders, bugs, you picking up said creepy crawlies, hq boys being no! help! at! all! (but that's ok bc we love them for it), fanon-ish sakusa cos i haven't read the manga and he had like 5 seconds of screen time so i'm just going off of what i've read + seen, clear favouritism despite the fact that i know basically nothing about sakusa, manga timeskip spoilers in sakusa's
MORI'S THOUGHTS -> haven't seen one where the reader is the one in the relationship who takes care of bugs so since i'm a #girlboss who throws spiders out of my room whenever i see them without breaking a sweat i'm writing that into a fun lil thing with the haikyuu boys that i strongly believe are scared of bugs. also besides the point but look at the pretty colour palette that their banners make fjfjfjdj will go back to writing the requests after this! inspiration just struck

❍ OIKAWA TOORU
-> omg this fucking guy
-> don't let his pride fool you this man HATES bugs with a burning passion
-> he'll never admit it though
-> between you and the aoba johsai team he would never hear the end of how the great king oikawa would cower at the sight of a moth doing laps around a lightbulb
-> so when you pretended not to hear the shriek that left your boyfriend when he saw something flying around the bathroom light and he declined your offer to get rid of the moth for him, this left oikawa in a pretty difficult situation
-> it was just him alone in the bathroom, trying to brush his teeth while eyeing the bug warily
-> you came in a few minutes later, getting ready to go to bed as well
-> "you know, babe, that moth's been there for quite a while," you teased him
-> oikawa hummed in response, his eyes never leaving it as it continued its circumnavigation of the light fixture
-> "oh, you know. who am i to kick someone out of their home? i'm no monster"
-> you almost snorted at how poor of an excuse that was, but ruffled your boyfriend's hair anyway
-> "i'll take care of it, ru, you just finish getting ready"
-> "but y/n-chan, that moth has feelings! don't be mean to it!"
-> you gave tooru a very blank stare at that
-> "so do you want me to leave you alone with your new friend?"
-> "......no"
-> "that's what i thought"
-> you went up to the moth, managing to trap it in your hands before releasing it from a window
-> oikawa shuddered as you came back to the sink, giving your hands a quick rinse before resuming with brushing your teeth like nothing had happened
-> "you're so brave, my love"
-> "anything for you, babe"
❍ SAKUSA KIYOOMI
-> bless this poor boy
-> so it's no secret that sakusa isn't the fondest of germs
-> and that extends to bugs and spiders too
-> besides a normal amount of disgust that he held for them, the thought of where the insects had been or placed one of their many feet on never failed to make his skin crawl
-> that's where you, his wonderful significant other, comes in
-> as much as he loves you, he just can't understand how you always stared at bugs with wonder in your eyes
-> you'd even pick them up, cooing at the way they crawled up your arm while sakusa just stared at you in disbelief with a can of bug spray in hand
-> tonight was one of those swelteringly hot summer nights
-> you know, the ones where the air seems to be still no matter how many windows you open and every insect in a mile radius is actively trying to enter your home
-> you were spending the night at your boyfriend's apartment, ready to have a relaxing night in with him since your schedules had finally synced up and allowed you both to enjoy a day off at the same time
-> it took months of trust before sakusa finally admitted to you how much he enjoyed doing skincare
-> so whenever you two spent the night together, you decided to start the evening with some face masks and idle binging of a tv show
-> against his half-hearted protests, you had insisted that sakusa wore a headband while this happened (one that had a very cute duck face printed on it)
-> just to keep the curls out of his face, of course
-> whenever he caught you sneaking a candid of him with facemask and duck headband on, he just shot you a halfhearted glare and threatened you to never send that to atsumu or the rest of the msby team
-> (you set it as your home screen instead)
-> anyways, i digress
-> so tonight you decided to cool down from the heat with a few facemasks and cuddling in your boyfriend's heavily air conditioned living room
-> but he kept all his skincare stuff in the bathroom, so you went to go get them as he set up a show to watch along with some snacks
-> you flicked on the light, going to his cabinet when something in the corner of the room caught your eye
-> there was a fairly large spider, desperately trying to crawl up the smooth tile wall
-> you decided to take pity on it and release it
-> but when you had it cupped safely in your hands, you decided to terrorise your poor boyfriend just a little
-> "hey, omi, look what i found!"
-> your boyfriend perked up at your signature nickname for him, though his eyes narrowed as he saw your clasped hands held in front of you
-> "no"
-> "but baby, you haven't even seen-"
-> "no"
-> you giggled at how defensive he had become
-> "come on, don't you want to name it? it's very cute"
-> "i want you to throw it out, y/n"
-> "alright, alright"
-> you took the spider to a window, releasing it back outside before heading back to the bathroom and grabbing a few masks for real this time
-> sakusa gave you the cold shoulder as you sat down next to him, humming as you gave him a face mask and putting it on without a word
-> "aww, baby, i'm sorry"
-> "..."
-> "i'll give you a head massage if you stop ignoring me?"
-> sakusa turned to you, his eyes narrowed in thought as he stared you down
-> the act soon broke, though, and he smiled against the sheet mask that was on his face
-> "it better be a good one," he huffed as he tugged the duck headband off, already sighing at the sensation of your fingers against his scalp
-> "omi, come on, what do you take me for?"
❍ HAIBA LEV
-> ngl lev gives off equal amounts of being terrified of like the tiniest spider or just finding bugs insanely cool vibes
-> it's funnier to imagine this 6-foot-something guy scramble away from a fucking crane fly in terror though so this is how it's going to play out
-> when you invited your giant of a boyfriend to your flat, you didn't anticipate just how small he made everything appear
-> he even towered in your doorway, having to stoop to step through into your hall
-> "woahh, i love your place!"
-> it was his first time staying over for the night, and lev was making sure to drink in every aspect of your interior design
-> you found it sweet of him, and watched as he stared in wide-eyed wonder at the little trinkets you had collected over the years to make your small apartment seem more like a home
-> you didn't expect him to scream at the top of his lungs and practically run back to you, though
-> you jumped at the sound, watching as he scrambled away from your lamp and pointed back at it with a shaking finger
-> you squinted at it, making out the very menacing form of a crane fly as it bumped into the lampshade and continued on its path
-> "lev, you big baby," you giggled, heading to the kitchen to grab a glass and trap it
-> "y/n, don't leave me alone with it!" he yelped, and you rolled your eyes at his antics
-> you came back, smoothly capturing the insect and throwing it out of a nearby window
-> lev was sat on your couch the whole time, hands covering his eyes as he curled in a ball
-> "is it gone?" he asked, and you you giggled at how childlike he was acting at the moment
-> "it's all good, baby" you smoothed his hair and lev gratefully leaned into your touch, a sigh of relief leaving him
-> "thank you, y/n"
-> "i'll get rid of all the bugs in the world for you, lev"
❍ MIYA ATSUMU
-> gives off the vibes that he used to eat bugs as a child i'm sorry but
-> have mercy on his soul lmao
-> so twins are supposed to be identical right?
-> anyone who spends more than a few minutes around the miya twins know that that's a complete fucking lie
-> and you've had the misfortune of being friends with them for a very long time
-> like your mums were friends and you were all born around the same time
-> you've been pulled into their shit before you could walk or talk
-> so you're well aware of just how different these mfs are
-> even though they were both absolute bastards, osamu always had a slightly more mellowed out approach which would always end up with atsumu getting the blame for what they got up to
-> especially as a child, osamu loved to terrorise his twin with the unwilling help of you
-> one of the ways was through osamu exploiting one of his twins' fears
-> that being bugs and spiders
-> he always cackled at the sight of atsumu screaming and trying to run away from him due to the spider he was holding
-> as they both grew up, this became less of a frequent thing for osamu to do
-> you also somehow started dating atsumu, but nobody could exactly pinpoint a moment that signified a beginning to your relationship
-> but since you're dating the world's biggest manchild in disguise, and osamu gets annoyed with atsumu quite easily, you would have to swoop in to rescue him from time to time
-> recently the twins had been getting a little snappy with each other, and it had yet to sort itself out
-> from what you had heard your boyfriend was in the wrong this time, but you still listened to him whine and rant about it
-> you were going to the inarizaki school gym to say hi to your boyfriend and best friend before practice started, only to see absolute chaos unfolding
-> with kita yet to arrive, the twins were effectively unleashed and that much was clear with the way atsumu was practically screaming his head off as he ran around the gym
-> your eyes took in the rest of the players- aran had his head in his hands, suna was snickering with his phone out to record the newest miya twin fight, and osamu's deranged laugh could be heard above everything else as he chased his brother, hand held out in front of him
-> only one thing was capable of making atsumu scream like that, so you already knew what was happening
-> atsumu quickly spotted you hovering in the doorway, and made a beeline to where you were
-> his eyes were panicked, and you were quick to wrap him in a hug as you shot osamu a nasty glare over his shoulder
-> literally this lmfao
-> "that's enough, 'samu"
-> your best friend paused, before a smile spread across his face as he dangled the centipede in front of him
-> "you know it was rubber, right?"
-> you felt your boyfriend tense in your arms and you bit your lip to stifle a small giggle
-> but at least they would be back to normal by the end of today

Reunited (Red Groom AU)
This is the part where you guys realize i'm not going in chronological order and am probably just gonna do the scenes i like
but like who cares right that just means we're skipping to the good stuff
Also i combined the battle of wits and the Reuniting scene bc this is my AU and i do what i want
--
In a cruel turn of fate, when the Spider Queen stood alone between him and his most hated foe, the Red Prince wished he still had either the large blue fellow or the dragon with them still. At least the two of them were slightly more amenable to him. And maybe while they couldn't be persuaded to take these wretched restraining cuffs from his wrists they at least were better conversational partners than the half mad Spider Queen.
Tethered to the spider woman as he was at the time, when she began to mutter aloud to herself about trying to lose the Monkey King over a secret way, he had no choice but to follow as she dragged him off of the forest path and into a clearing. He'd assumed she'd gone mad, but before he could voice such opinions she'd spun a quick web and used it to blind and gag him. She'd activated the damned cuffs and finding himself unable to move on his own, he could only comply.
He could rely on naught but his hearing as the Spider Queen dragged him across the open plain and forced him to sit upon what felt to be a long felled tree trunk. He heard her arrange things with the shift and clang of cloth and metal, and soon enough he heard approaching footsteps.
One of her pointed legs pressed up underneath him, the tip just grazing where his chin met his neck.
“So, Monkey King, it's down to you and I once again.” She purred and he let out a shout of rage at finally finally being so close to the monkey who'd taken away his everything but unable to move or even look upon the face of that wretched foe.
“-By all means if you want the prince dead, come closer.” The point of the Spider Queen's leg pressed a little harder against him.
“Give me a moment, let me explain-” The Monkey King started, tense and rough and possessing none of the cocky lit his father had described it as in the stories he'd heard-
“There's nothing to explain!” The Spider Queen crowed. “You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen!”
“Per...haps an arrangement can be reached?” Why did the Monkey King even want him enough to not have grown bored and moved on? Some sort of assumed loyalty to his father? As if he'd go anywhere with the monster that had taken his-
No. Stop. Stop thinking about it, now's not the time.
The Spider Queen thought so too, he felt a small prick on his neck as she broke the skin there just a bit he let out a muffled yelp in surprise as she grabbed his arm for better leverage. “There will be none. And if you do not wish to bring a corpse back to his family you will remain where you are.”
The Monkey King's voice wavered, and for a moment it sounded afraid... and almost familiar-... No. don't you dare compare him to the monkey who killed him.
“Well... if no arrangement can be made, this is quite the impasse we've reached.”
“I would say so. If you went about swinging that staff I'd likely be squashed flat, yet if you dared do so your prize's blood will stain the soil before you finished the swing. Your brawn is unparalleled 'Great Sage' But so is my intelligence.”
“You're that smart, hm?”
“Whose the one holding the prize, Monkey King?” She gripped his arm tighter.
“Well, In that case how about a battle of wits?” There was that cocky lit. No doubt the Monkey had a trick up his sleeve to take care of the Spider Queen-
“For the prince?”
-and then if he could just play nice for long enough to get him to remove these damned restraining cuffs he could-
“To the Death?”
-he could charge at the simian with every ounce of pain and rage he'd built up in the past two years and turn him to ash and whatever smoldering stone he was made from that remained stone yet.
“I accept.”
He just had to be patient a little longer.
“Wonderful! Pour the wine, please?”
This would possibly be his greatest test of resolve yet. He heard the Monkey's footsteps approaching and as the creature drew near he smelled of peaches and the wind, and-...
Had- Had he stolen some of his beloved's clothes?!
His senses were stronger than an average humans and without his sight his other senses were sharpening and he could swear he smelled the distinct scent of-...of-....don't say his name don't even think it you don't have the time to be hysterical right now
-He didn't think he was CAPABLE of hating the Monkey King even more than he already did and yet here he was. His rage mounting and seething beneath his skin.
He heard the clack and pour as the wine sloshed into what were apparently two cups between his captor and his enemy.
“Smell this, but don't touch it.”
“This smells of nothing.”
“It's called Iocane powder. It has no smell, taste or distinctive texture but it can kill a demon in no time flat.”
“Hm.”
“Now it can't kill ME per se, but even I'm not fully immune to it. It'll put me into a sleep like death for a solid week, which is about as close to dead as I can get anyway.”
“Ahhh I see where you're going with this.”
There was another pause, and the sound of the two cups clinking as they were moved about.
“There. Which cup as the poison within? You select which you'll take, we both drink. And from there we see who has the custody of the prince, and who is dead.”
The Spider Queen laughed and released her hold on his arm to clap in her amusement.
“Truly? We both drink the wine and see who keels over? How delightful! You were never this collected with your gambits before, Great Sage! Truly I can only divine which cup is poisoned from what I know of you, Monkey King.” the Monkey King sucked in a breath and She laughed.
“I suppose the real question is how does the Monkey King go about when he plans on tricking people? Does he poison his own goblet or his enemies?”
Then the Spider Queen began on some long, painfully winded, tirade about what she'd divined about the Monkey King based on his reputation and what she'd gleaned from his behavior, and he honestly could not care about her backwards thought process one whit. He simply wished for this to be over and either make plans to return to this palace when the Great Sage was in his sleep like death and char him to a crisp or wait for the Spider Queen to fall dead and convince the Monkey King to free him so he may do the job himself.
“You're trying to confuse me into giving something away aren't you?”
“You'd LOVE that wouldn't you Monkey King? I know which goblet has the poison in it you great fool.”
“Then choose! Geez, this is boring me!”
“You'll see whose embarrassed soon enou- What in the world could that be?”
“What? Where?” Did.... Did the Monkey King really just fall for the 'look behind you' gambit? “I see nothing.”
...Really?
“I could have sworn I saw something- oh nevermind I suppose. Now, a toast. I select my own cup.”
“Very well.” the two cups clacked together dully.
“You chose wrong.” The Monkey King chortled, only to be cut off by the Spider Queen's cackle.
“You only BELIEVE I chose wrong! How humorous! The great and mighty Monkey King so easily duped!” the Spider Queen cackled “I switched our glasses as you were turned around Monkey King! You've fallen for one of the greatest blunders of them all! The Greatest of course being to never invade the far north nearing winter, but slightly less well known, is to never bet against a Spider when death is on the line!”
The Spider Queen laughed for a time longer before her laughter started to slowly dissolve into a coughing fit. Her hand scrabbled along his arm as she searched for purchase- and then fell away.
The Monkey King approached him and he most certainly HAD stolen the clothes of his beloved with the scent that clung there still—and oh how he'd wished he'd still have a remnant of him to remember with in his timeless eon of grief—and the sheer unbridled unfairness that his killer was allowed something that he so desperately had craved made him furious.
The Monkey King removed the webbing around his eyes first and he blinked in the sudden sunlight. The dark mask and head wrapping the Monkey King wore obscured the majority of his face and he found himself so full of rage at the idea of the wretched stone monkey being so close to him that once the webbing was torn from his mouth his first instinct had been to spit in his face.
He hadn't, but it had been a close call.
“....All that caterwauling and you knew you'd poisoned your own cup the whole time.”
“They were both poisoned, highness.” The Monkey King stated stiffly. “Iocane powder only works on demons and I'm immune to everything but what can kill an immortal... so you may not want to touch either of those cups yourself.”
The Monkey King reached for his bindings and he held his breath as he gave the shackles an experimental tug. The golden bands shuddered and tightened against his wrists. “What nature of binding are these?”
...just play nice, just until they're broken...“I'm not familiar with them myself, but they blast my own fire back onto me should I try to summon it, and tighten upon attempted removal.” Come on... if anyone could break them before they lopped his hands off it would be the Monkey King... and he'd thank him by giving him just what he deserves....
“Sounds like a stolen artifact from the heavenly court or something, you're probably stuck in those things until we return to Flower Fruit Mountain.”
“...Excuse me?”
“Well I know very little about the surrounding area, how short a time it's been since I've returned to the world, and if I remember correctly this mercenary group said themselves they were hired by your fiance, So we should probably assume his palace is hostile territory, and to send you home would surely double our journey time before we can be assured of safety. It's far safer to head back to my own mountain and send word to your home from there.”
No...No no no no That was not allowed. He got to his feet—in such a rush the Monkey King stumbled back in surprise—and couldn't hold on to his temper any longer.
“I will no nowhere with you! You- You absolute-! I- I can't even find the words to DESCRIBE how deeply my hatred runs for you!” The Monkey King flinched back in surprise, before huffing.
“Well you don't have much of a choice, do you? I can't remove those restraints short of chopping your hands off and the sun is due to set soon; How long do you think you'll last in the wild without your fire power? Far as I see it, You either return with me to my mountain, or leave as powerless as a human without even a weapon by your side and hope to make it back home on your own before you're either eaten or slaughtered.”
Red Son growled under his breath, but when the Monkey King gestured for him to follow, he did.
They made it to the outer side of a mountain, a steep decline into the valley off on their side and in the center of the valley lie a dark and tangled forest.
“We can rest here for a time-”
“I refuse to put my guard down around you, ape.” The Monkey King bristled.
“Would you mind terribly to indulge me as to why you've decided to detest your own savior, highness?”
The horrid monkey should know what he's done- “You killed the love of my life”
And then the bastard had the gall to remain unshaken “Maybe I did. I've killed a lot of people since getting free.” The Monkey strode forward and began to circle him, like a predator toying with its prey.
Red Son decided he wouldn't need his fire to attack this creature. Sure he may die within moments, but his rage would at least let him one punch before his skull was split open-
“Tell me, who was this 'love' of yours? Another prince like yourself?” The Monkey King leaned in. “Rich? Cutthroat? Bossy?”
Of all the disrespectful- “He worked in an Inn when I knew him! He was poor!” He rounded on the disgraceful simian yet the killer before him wasn't his focus. “I didn't care about his wealth!”
He couldn't think on him or he'd fall to pieces and-
He couldn't-
“I never cared about that.”
The memory of gentle laughter echoing in his ear, the bright excitement and bounce in his step, those elegant yet calloused hands and he had to stop this right here because the Monkey King wasn't ALLOWED to see him so vulnerable-
“He was perfect in every way...”
Yet now that the memory was in his head again it wasn't going away. And he found his heart aching as deeply as it was during his period of mourning.
The shimmer of adoration when he'd simply glanced at him briefly and known his heart; the embarrassed way his gaze had darted away when he'd later confronted him on his discovered feelings, the warm, bright joy when he'd told him his feelings were returned-
“...With eyes like the space between the stars...” His voice had grown weaker, barely a murmur as the memories reclaimed their long repressed spot in his mind.
Xiaotian... his face, his voice, His passion and energy and-
And the tired look on the Inkeep's husband's face when he'd informed him of their son's death-
-The eager excited look on his face as he'd eagerly listen to Red Son talk about his projects, always listening even if he didn't understand.
The feeling of the floor falling out from under him and and a million horrible noises and feelings mounting up in his throat and chest but restraining it just long enough to find somewhere to be alone
-The energy in his voice as he talked about his art, looking for all the world like his greatest pleasure in the world was taking a brush into his hand and immortalizing the world around him into inks and papers.
Kneeling in the grove of trees for hours screaming his rage and sobbing his despair until a stranger had finally found him.
-The stories he loved to hear and tell in turn, entire body going into his storytelling as he gestured and enacted and faked fights
Night after sleepless night tirelessly working trying to—needing to—just stop thinking else he'd be able to do nothing but wish the world itself had died when Xiaotian had so at least the sun would stop rising and the birds would stop singing and the servants would stop bringing him meals he didn't have the appetite for and he could just work and work until his body finally collapsed in on itself and the light of his forge would go out blanketing the world in eternal darkness like it deserved to be after the greatest light of them all was extinguished.
-one picture, just one, given to him the one time he'd returned to the town by the Inkeep, stating in a gruff, tired voice that he may as well keep it. A figure done up in coals, his own visage of that one beautiful night they'd had together, the paper folded and held in a secret pocket right over his heart where it remained forevermore.
That final goodbye, Xiaotian pressing a feather light kiss to his knuckles as though still trying to be respectful to a prince. And he couldn't suppress the laughter at such a overly fancy action so once his chuckles had subsided he'd pulled him into a proper kiss. And they'd both known it would be some time before they'd see eachother, so they made it a proper goodbye-
But he hadn't thought it would be the last time he'd ever see him alive.
If he'd known... all the things he would have said, all the pleas to keep him there with him in the little town just beyond the palace. To- To move him into the palace, and yes his parent's wouldn't approve of a peasant for a husband, but he'd have no other and eventually they'd come around to it. Especially after they actually MET him and knew the kind of man he was-
But he didn't. And Xiaotian was dead-
He was dead at the hands of someone he'd admired and loved the stories of.
And his rage returned. The fire burned beneath his skin and begged to be let loose but he had to keep a lid on it to keep the cuffs from bouncing his power back onto himself and burning away like an effigy of love and loss.
“He was staying in the village you burned to the ground when you left your traveling group.” his voice was low, as calm as he could possibly make it, if he went any louder he would begin screaming, he knew it. “The one you ensured none would live to tell about beyond your former friends-”
“'Friends' is such a heavy word. My 'traveling compatriots' perhaps would work better.” The Monkey King interrupted him -He interrupted him! “And I mean I couldn't afford to show any mercy while I was leaving them behind! If people thought the Monkey King had gone soft after his five hundred year imprisonment nobody would respect him! Then it's nothing but work work work to rebuild that reputation!”
“Are you mocking me?! You destroy my everything and you have the gall to mock my pain?!”
“Oh, Life is pain highness.” He couldn't see the Monkey King's eyes but he was sure they were mockingly rolling in his self-assured life knowledge. “Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is just selling you something.”
Then he looked off to the side, and he was so tempted to just charge the Monkey, see how far he could go before he was struck back. See how far his rage could carry him alone. He twisted the restraining cuffs on his wrists, they tightened, he grit his teeth at the squeeze.
“You know, I think I remember this inkeep boy of yours. I separated from my former group about... what, two years ago was it?”
...You know he'd thought that if the Monkey King did remember Xiaotian it would give him some sense of catharsis. That his love had at least made an impression on the great fool, and was not just some faceless passerby, but...
It didn't.
“Does it bother you to know?”
“I'll not give you the satisfaction of hearing any more of my thoughts on the matter.”
“Well, he died well if that's any consolation.” The Monkey King was peering at him through the mask. “No bribe attempts with those meager savings, no blubbering. He pleaded his case to me only the once.” he looked away, seemingly lost in the memory, head tilted upward as though to help him remember. “He said 'Please... I need to live'...Not a lot of people say 'please' and mean it highness, so it gave me pause.”
“I asked him what was worth sparing him over, and I remember this, he said 'True Love'” His chest felt tight...
He reached up a hand and pressed it against his collarbone to try and alleviate the pressure, he could practically see it, the village up in flames, the Monkey King in this same hideous black outfit, his staff already stained with blood, and his precious, darling, beloved Noodle Boy kneeling in the dirt, blood seeping down his face from a cut somewhere on his head, and pleading just for a moment. And-
True love...
“He then went on to describe a gentlemen of great intelligence and deep passion; I can only assume he meant you...Have to say, I'm surprised you're not grateful to me destroying him when I did.”
His mind stuttered to a stop, his entire train of thought completely derailed as the Monkey King spoke.
“...What?”
“You know, before he could see the kind of person you really are.”
His control snapped in half, his fire sprung forth, the golden bands shuddered and the flames erupted out only for a moment before being bounced back onto him. The heat of his own fury scalding him until the pain made him stop. The Monkey King took a half step forward but Red Son made SURE he kept his distance with his glare alone.
“And what, pray tell, kind of person am I?!”
It seemed like he'd finally pissed off the Monkey King. Good. His shoulders tensed and those long canines bared, as though ready to tear into him. “He was really stuck on the idea that you were the faithful sort, highness. That no matter what, yours wasn't the kind of heart that could be swayed! He was so sure that you would wait for him-”
Wait- why was that what had angered him?
“-So tell me, when you learned of your 'love's death did you start accepting suitors the next day or did you wait a full week out of respect for the dead?!”
His hand went flying before he even thought about it, he should have punched him; if that was his only shot in he should have punched him, but his reflexes had decided the action for him and instead his palm was out and he'd slapped him instead.
“How dare you?! You mocked me once see if you live to do it again!”
But he wasn't thinking about that, he wasn't thinking about anything beyond the pain that had gone from a dull ache to white hot in his chest, the absolute blinding rage and the sting of tears welling in his eyes from the sheer tidal wave of anger and despair.
“I DIED THAT DAY”
The tears turned to steam the second they left his eyes, smoldering trails out of either, just barely able to vent that little bit of flame into the world without hurting him but he didn't care if the proof of his despair was made obvious by it or not.
He didn't care about any of it. He didn't care he couldn't summon a single plume of fire or how completely eclipsed his ability was by the Monkey King's without it, and possibly even with his it. He only cared about making him pay. He pounced on the monkey when he seemed stunned by his vehemence.
The scuffle was brief but he DID get another hit in before he was pinned. This time it was a real punch, and it was just as satisfying as he'd hoped it would be.
But too soon was he pinned, The monkey pressing his front to the ground, a knee between his shoulder blades and his hands held together against the small of his back.
He let out a shout of rage, not even bothering to try and give any more words, no more words were necessary.
“Calm down! You need to listen-!”
The steam was clouding his eyes so greatly he was nearly blind with it, his fire was trying to come out unbidden to throw off his opponent, the scalding agony rippling through his body proof of such. But he was numb to it beyond it fueling his anger even further; maybe if he just burnt hot enough he could melt the cuffs right off of him. Everything was hurting, his clothes were going to be a holey mess, but he could smell cooking meat and he could only hope it was the monkey above him. He HAD to burn the Monkey King first. Even if he was immolated himself in the process!
“The only thing I'd like to listen to is your demise! You-! You wretched ape! You heartless horsekeeper! You took my everything you don't deserve the breath you stole from his lungs!” His own lungs ached, was it through holding back sobs? Was he experiencing smoke inhalation for the first time? He couldn't tell.
The pressure was off of his back and his hands were released, he made a blind swipe to try and right himself but his arms wouldn't obey him, and at that realization the pain finally kicked in.
The world went fuzzy at the edges, then dark at the edges. Until he could only see a small spot in front of him and the rest of his sight was naught but a haze of black.
Then everything was black-
It was probably his own flesh he could smell burning-
There was rapid muttering above him-
How embarrassing if this was what did him in, revenge in his grasp and he was too eager to kill the Monkey King right there he let cursed jewelry trick him into offing himself-
Someone was sobbing, was it him? He didn't think he had enough breath in his lungs for that-
The pain was going away, did that mean he was dying-
He tried to open his eyes, but he was still face down in the dirt and could only manage one, the former grassland around him was still smoldering from his fire as it eased back into focus, his breathing was ragged, and at some point his skin had stopped burning so hot, he felt cold.
The pain had eased but hadn't vanished, but the shock was still heavy in his system as he couldn't respond when he felt a pair of arms lift him up and pull him against a hard yet warm surface.
Dark fabric met his eye, and...he knew who this person was, didn't he? At some point in the writhing pain he'd forgotten just what he was doing here, mind going blank for everything but the burning sensation. But whoever they were they felt familiar. Their arms wrapped around his torso like they belonged there, as though the two of them were made to be like this.
The next thing that processed was the sound. His ear was pressed to the person's torso and he could hear the rabbit flutter of a panicked heartbeat. But nonetheless there was something... familiar about it. And alongside the heartbeat there was the vibration of words in the stranger's chest, but these he couldn't quite make out as their face was pressed against the top of his head, buried in his hair and making the words indecipherable.
It was then that his mind finally re-engaged and he realized that it was the Monkey King holding him so tenderly. His anger felt muted by the cold cold blanket of shock, but he still struggled in his grasp to pull away, if only to try and make sense of what was going on. If the Monkey King had such judgmental and inaccurate views of a man he'd never met before now, why was he doing this?
The Monkey King held him tight and he felt the shake of his shoulders as he was pressed even closer. Why was he shaking? He shifted again and this time found his face pressed against the dark fur of the Monkey's neck.
But it... felt off... it didn't feel real. It felt more like fabric with an illusion placed over it than it did actual fur...
The smell of burning flesh finally faded from his nose and was replaced with-
…What?
No that- that wasn't possible, he'd stolen Xiaotian's clothes sure but his face was pressed to the Monkey King's neck, that can't be his scent that can't be-
His arms were still aching as he reached up and found the knot tying the dark mask and headscarf around him. Both fabrics fluttered away and with them came a puff of a cloud of smoke, a shapeshifting form dissolving around him.
And he was pressed against a very human body.
This- this could still be a trap, this could be some sort of illusion to pacify him, so he wouldn't ask any more questions, so he'd just lose himself entirely-
The human—the alive human—clutching to him tightened his grip and he could finally make out the words he was muttering
“I'm so sorry never do that again you scared me to death I'm sorry I'm sorry-”
The cocky lit in his voice was gone and it sounded so achingly familiar without it, and the feeling and the scent and it- it couldn't be....
It had to be
It was a struggle, his arms still felt heavy from the echoes of pain and the numbness of realization, but he pulled away just enough to properly look at him and-
Oh...
Like the space between the stars...
“Xiaotian...”
He was crying, just beginning to pull himself together now. Pulling an arm off of him to scrub at that beautiful face. Those enchanting eyes he'd thought he'd never see again darted away from him and he wanted to protest at not being allowed to simply look at him after... after EVERYTHING... but he couldn't find breath in his lungs.
“I think your fiance's been tracking us- I hear horses. Can you walk?”
He tried to respond, he really did, but he found himself spellbound by the sound of his voice, just as he remembered it without the false persona twisting it until the point it had become unrecognizable.
“Red Son?” he shuddered at the sound of his own name being spoken by that voice again. So many emotions and memories, the hole in his chest finally being filled, and knowing without a shadow of a doubt this time he wouldn't let anything part them again still leaving him stunned. The fire was gone from his skin and finally, finally he felt one emotion beat the others and bubble up to the surface.
Red Son started to laugh. Tears bubbling up and sliding down his cheeks as true, overwhelming joy engulfed him. His arms ached and felt stiff from the burns he'd laid onto them but he pulled them around Xiaotian's shoulders all the same and squeezed with every ounce of strength that remained in his body.
“You're alive...” he wasn't sure if his laughter had turned to sobbing or if the two had simply mixed together but his breath was hitching and the tears wouldn't stop. “If you wanted I could fly”
Those arms pulled around him again and now he could truly appreciate just how easily the both of them fit together.
“I- I still don't understand, why did you accept the proposal if you still loved me?” Xiaotian's voice was a whisper against his shoulder, and he didn't want to think any more of his family's decisions and his hopeless acceptance, yet-
“My parents decided it, and what else could I have done?” he paused for breath “You were dead.”
Xiaotian responded with such conviction he had no choice but to instantly believe him:
“Death can't stop true love; it can only delay it for awhile.”
His lips were rougher than he remembered, but Red Son had no complaints upon kissing them again.

soaring dragon dancing phoenix - 龙飞凤舞: chapter one
Yunmeng is no longer home for Wei Wuxian, for he is no longer welcome. And so when he visits he can always count on Jiang Cheng descending upon his head with the full strength of heaven's fury, to chase him out. But one day when he sneaks into Yunmeng again, days go by without Jiang Cheng making an appearance. Something has happened to Wei Wuxian's prickly shi-di, something that - once they reunite - they will find is far greater than they could ever have anticipated. Accompanied also by Wei Wuxian's dear friend (?) Lan Zhan and a Lan Xichen who has only just reluctantly left isolation, the four of them set out on a journey that will bring them across the greater part of China to the mystical Kunlun mountains of mythology - and more importantly, may bring them love, healing, and reconciliation.
If only Wei Wuxian could take his head out of his oblivious arse and start putting himself in other people's shoes for once...

Wei Wuxian woke in darkness, and it was a darkness he did not recognise.
He sat up, groaning as the movement jarred his bones and made him ache in places he’d not known existed. There was something clouding his thoughts, draining his energy; after a few moments wherein he tried to get his bearings, he sensed the presence of a suppressing array designed to repress spiritual energy and sap his strength.
It was not a man-made array. Instead, it had the hallmarks of something far more ancient and terrible.
The amount of resentful energy in the air was so thick that he almost choked on it. In fact, if not for the suppressing array, he would have had trouble stopping the energy from churning through his body and sending him into a state of backlash.
As he stumbled to his feet, there was a crunch underfoot. Something sharp poked into his hand as he steadied himself against the ground. He felt for the object, and as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he realised he had stepped on and broken the jaw bone of a skull.
“Ah – “ reflexively he recoiled. Then he relaxed as he realised it was likely the skull of a deer.
As he blinked and looked about the room, slowly things came into focus. First he saw around him walls made of dark, dank stone. There was a sour, mossy smell in the air; the air felt thick with moisture, and he wrinkled his nose in response. His head felt like it had been stuffed with cotton, and there was a faint ringing in his ears, likely from the blow to his head he’d received to knock him out before he’d been dragged into this chamber.
“At least whatever took me left me mostly intact,” he muttered to himself, fishing a talisman out of his robes and lighting it with a brief spark of spiritual energy.
He looked down, and realised that the floor was littered with more bones – animal bones, human bones, and unidentifiable shards which were coated in a thin layer of something shiny. When he nudged one of the fragments, it made a squishing noise under his foot, and Wei Wuxian instantly regretted his curiosity.
This must be the lair of the human-eating monster, he thought to himself, and this is where it chucks the remnants of its meals…it must have deemed Mo Xuanyu too skinny and underfed to be worthwhile fare, and tossed me in here for storage instead. It’s not my fault his isn’t a body which builds muscle easily! Why, if I only had my old body…
As he continued to stew indignantly over the monster’s disrespect of his physique, he returned his gaze to the walls, and suddenly realised that there was a passageway carved into the wall, leading into the next room. With one last glance around the chamber he was currently occupying, he deemed there to be little else of note therein, and trotted over to the aperture in the wall.
As he walked cautiously through the passageway, feeling his way with his hands and trying not to cringe at the thin layer of sticky moisture which gathered on his palms, suddenly the corridor opened out into a large chamber. More bones crunched under his feet, and now he found he had to pick his way carefully across the floor without falling over.
Abruptly the faint light from his talisman revealed a purple-clad body on the ground, and Wei Wuxian tripped.
Thankfully, he caught himself before he managed to fall on the body, and once he had regained his balance, he squatted over the body and squinted balefully at the face of the unfortunate person.
Jiang Cheng?! Wei Wuxian exclaimed mentally. What luck!
- Or, lack thereof, depending on how you looked at it. It was supremely lucky that he’d managed to find Jiang Cheng – alive, judging from the steady shallow rise and fall of his chest – and with all limbs and his head still firmly attached. But also supremely unlucky in the sense that they were now alone in a room with both their spiritual energy severely depleted, and without other Yunmeng Jiang sect members/Lan Zhan as buffers.
“Oh well. The rice is now cooked; what’s done is done, and there’s no way around it,” Wei Wuxian sighed. “I’ll just have to deal with his bad temper when he wakes up.”
Wei Wuxian leant over Jiang Cheng and scanned his body. There were faint lines on his temples where dried blood had trickled down from a wound on his head, similar to that on Wei Wuxian’s own forehead, but there didn’t seem to be much lasting damage. His spiritual energy was worryingly low, however, and it could barely be felt through his pulse point. Hurriedly, Wei Wuxian yanked open the collar of his robe and undergarments and placed his hand against his chest.
Thankfully, the thrumming of his spiritual energy was still present – very faint and weak, but still there.
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING,” Jiang Cheng said weakly.
“Aaaahhh!” Wei Wuxian yelped, falling backwards and dropping the talisman. They stared at each other for a moment.
“Why are you the one yelling? I’m the one who woke up to being groped by a goddamn cut-sleeve!” Jiang Cheng shouted, albeit a bit feebly.
“Even when you’re half-dead you’re still so noisy,” Wei Wuxian said peevishly. “I was just checking your golden core! As if I’d want to touch you. Gross. And I’m not a cut-sleeve,” he added quickly.
Jiang Cheng ignored him, lifting himself up on his elbows and attempting to get onto his feet. He slapped away Wei Wuxian’s outstretched hand and managed to hobble upright on his own.
“My golden core,” he said suddenly, and looked up at Wei Wuxian with wild eyes. “I can barely feel it. And my senses feel dulled. I can’t think properly. What the hell’s happened to me?!”
“There’s a suppressing array in place,” Wei Wuxian answered. “Can’t you feel it? It’s suppressing your spiritual energy and sapping your strength.”
“Why don’t you seem affected then?” Jiang Cheng said, his tone mildly accusatory.
Wei Wuxian paused. “I don’t have a golden core, remember. And I’ve gone so long without one, I suppose it’s easier to get used to operating on lower spiritual energy.”
He kept his tone breezy and light, but even he felt that it was slightly over-played. Jiang Cheng’s jaw clenched and he turned away.
Wei Wuxian sighed. “Come on, Jiang Cheng,” he tried. “You know it doesn’t matter to me anymore. It’s an old wound, and I was the one who chose to give it up anyway. It wasn’t your fault at all.”
When Jiang Cheng turned back, there was so much guilt and anger in his eyes, Wei Wuxian found he could no longer stand it. He broke their gaze and looked around instead.
“We’re going to need weapons for defence,” he said, thinking out loud. “Spiritual weapons won’t work, since you’re low on spiritual energy, so Sandu and Zidian are out. Oh, how about this!” and he skipped over to the corner of the room, where a bunch of corpses were haphazardly piled on top of each other, covered in sparse cobwebs. A giant hairy spider crawled out of one of the skulls’ mouths and scuttled sideways into the shadows.
From their garb, the bodies had apparently been farmers or fishermen, and accordingly, there were various tools scattered on the ground next to them. Wei Wuxian picked up a few of the items and scrutinised them.
“Here, Jiang Cheng!” he called, and held them out. “Hoe, spade, pitchfork; time to play farmer for the day! Take your pick?”
Jiang Cheng grabbed the pitchfork without looking, his eyes trained on their surroundings and scanning the walls with what little light from the talisman remained. He clenched his fist, and Zidian crackled weakly, but otherwise there was no response, as expected.
“What do you remember before you were knocked out?” he said finally. “How did you find me here?”
Wei Wuxian was relieved to find that Jiang Cheng’s demeanour was back to normal.
He dropped the tools carelessly. “Hmm… I’ve been in Yunmeng for a while, and I went to – I met some Yunmeng Jiang disciples in Yunmeng and they told me you’d taken a group of your cultivators to the area outside the city where there had been a monster causing trouble and eating humans,” he said. “Since you’d been gone for quite a while, I figured it might be an interesting monster, so I came to have a look. I found the entrance to a cave in the area the disciples mentioned, but just as I entered, something knocked me out. Though I didn’t see what.”
“It was the same for me.” Jiang Cheng’s brow darkened, and his jaw clenched. “We must find the Yunmeng Jiang cultivators who came with me – whether they be dead or alive.”
Wei Wuxian nodded grimly. “I came from another room in which there were also many bones and remnants of clothing. There must be other rooms in which they may be found.”
They made their way sombrely through the various passageways and tunnels into other rooms which also reeked of dampness and decay. One by one, they found the distinctive bright purple robes of the Yunmeng Jiang disciples, covering bodies with the flesh only recently gnawed off the bones. For all of them, Jiang Cheng knelt by their sides and covered their bones with their robes, and arranged their remains tidily as best he could.
As he stood up from the side of the last corpse of the Yunmeng Jiang cultivators who’d accompanied him on his night hunt, his eyes were red with unshed tears. Wei Wuxian tactfully remained silent as Jiang Cheng took a few moments more to compose himself.
“We should get out and find reinforcements,” Wei Wuxian said at last, when Jiang Cheng’s colour had returned, and his grip on Sandu’s handle had loosened.
At Wei Wuxian’s words, he stiffened, and said suddenly, “What about the monster? It’s somewhere in here causing havoc. Who knows how many more people will killed in the time it takes for us to get back to Lotus Pier and fetch more people to help?”
“Our spiritual energy is so diminished, and we don’t have any useful weapons on us,” Wei Wuxian answered exasperatedly. “With this suppressing array in place, what damage can we possibly do to the monster?”
“Even if we bring reinforcements, they’ll be hit by the suppressing array too,” Jiang Cheng said stubbornly
“This creature is clearly a dangerous one, if our experiences have taught us anything, and one not to be taken lightly. We won’t be able to do much to it!” Wei Wuxian protested.
“Didn’t you kill the Xuanwu even while starved for three days, and heavily injured?” Jiang Cheng rebutted angrily. “Are you saying I’m not as competent as Lan Wangji?”
When Jiang Cheng was like this, it was difficult to deal with him. Wei Wuxian let his exasperation get the better of him. “Fine! Have it your way then!” he snapped. “For the record, I still think we’re going to our death. But since you’re being so pig-headed about it, we might as well try and find the monster and do what damage we can before we end up dying.”
They walked for a bit in a stony silence. The talisman, previously already on its last embers, soon shrivelled away into nothingness. Wei Wuxian wordlessly fished another yellow sheet from his robes and lit their way once more.
In the few moments in which darkness had reigned, Jiang Cheng’s expression had changed.
He quickly schooled it back to his familiar frown, however, and Wei Wuxian would have thought it a trick of the light, if he had not seen it plain as day.
“At least… let’s at least scope out the terrain so we know it better,” Jiang Cheng muttered, with a curious scraping noise, as if he were grinding his teeth. “Then we’ll know it better the second time when we come back with reinforcements.”
“… Are you feeling alright?” Wei Wuxian asked cautiously, with concern. “You don’t have a fever, do you? Why are you agreeing with me all of a sudden?”
“Shut up! Don’t make me change my mind!” Jiang Cheng said huffily, and walked a little bit faster.
Now I remember why Jin Ling’s princess-like temper seemed so familiar, Wei Wuxian thought to himself. He’s a carbon copy of Jiang Cheng as a child! No wonder, what with the way Jiang Cheng raises him.
Of course he would never dare to say such a thing to Jiang Cheng’s face, so they continued ambling on in more silence. Suddenly, Wei Wuxian stopped in his tracks.
“What is it?”
“I can sense something different,” Wei Wuxian said, turning his head from side to side as he attempted to trace the thing which had caught his attention. He closed his eyes and focused his mind.
It took him much concentration and mental capacity, but finally he sensed what had distracted him – a tendril of energy which differed from the constant thrum of resentful energy that threatened to overwhelm him at every step, the latter which likely came from the multiple corpses that they had left behind in the previous rooms. This new energy felt more similar to the force that sustained the suppressing array, but at the same time, curiously unlike. Wei Wuxian tilted his head to the side as he tried to sort out the tangled coils of energy in the air, into a more coherent map.
“I think I can sense the spiritual energy of the monster,” he said, after a few moments. “That is, if this creature is indeed the one that set up the suppressing array. Following its energy should lead us to its location.”
“There’s such a thick cloud of resentful energy. You can tell the monster’s energy apart?” Jiang Cheng asked in disbelief.
“Master of Demonic Cultivation, remember?” Wei Wuxian said, mustering up a grin. “I lived and breathed resentful energy for a while before I, er, before the siege on the Yiling Mounds.” He rushed on quickly before Jiang Cheng could become maudlin again. “It’s nothing to me, to tell apart different sources of resentful energy.”
“I’ve never before heard of a beast that was able to cast a suppressing array,” Jiang Cheng said, thankfully too preoccupied with the matter at hand to be easily distracted by talk of the past. “It must be a human-like monster then – but no, those were clearly the marks of an animal’s teeth on the bodies of my cultivators.”
Wei Wuxian nodded. “My line of thinking was the same as yours. I don’t think this thing is purely beast-like nor human-like, and it’s probably a mix of both, such that it’s able to cast a suppressing array, and yet attack people with such ferocity and strength. We’ll have to trace the energy to its source to find out.”
With a grunt of acknowledgement from Jiang Cheng in response, they continued trudging on in a firm, painful silence. This was a foreign concept to Wei Wuxian; even in his time with Lan Zhan, that taciturn rock of a man, he’d been able to fill the void between them with his aimless chatter and the playing of Chenqing. But something between him and Jiang Cheng still felt too raw, too new and vulnerable, to risk damaging with his usual frivolous antics.
This is so awkward, Wei Wuxian thought. Should I make the first move? But he might yell at me again. Hang on, since when have I been so afraid of Jiang Cheng’s scoldings? Anyway, what would I even ask him? ‘How are the lotuses doing in Lotus Pier?’ Um, no…
Surprisingly, however, Jiang Cheng was the first to break the silence.
“How – ahem. How is Lan Wangji?”
Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure he’d heard him right at first, but as he looked at Jiang Cheng incredulously, the question forming on his lips, Jiang Cheng flushed, and looked away.
“Oh! Er, Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian asked, loudly to cover up both their discomfort. “I haven’t seen him in a while. He’s Chief Cultivator, you know! Isn’t that amazing?”
Jiang Cheng muttered something that sounded suspiciously like I’m the Yunmeng Jiang sect leader, of course I know who the fucking Chief Cultivator is, but then he harrumphed and cleared his throat. Wei Wuxian magnanimously decided to let him off and pretend he hadn’t heard anything.
“I thought you two were inseparable?” Jiang Cheng asked, darting a sideways glance at Wei Wuxian. “And yet you haven’t seen him for a while?”
For some reason, that particular question grated at Wei Wuxian’s skin, and the light of the talisman flickered in response to his annoyance. “Well, he’s busy,” he said airily, “and… and I’ll see him soon. I’m sure of it. As if he could go a day without my presence!”
“He seems to be getting on perfectly fine without you,” Jiang Cheng pointed out, detestably reasonable as always.
“With Lan Zhan’s poker face, how can you tell?” Wei Wuxian returned quickly. This time it was he who walked a little faster, just to be spiteful, and just because he could.
“You look like you’ve been tramping through the wilderness,” Jiang Cheng said, abruptly switching the subject.
“I’ve just been living wild for a while. You know, living off the land, eating only fruits and berries, surviving by my abundance of wits as usual…”
“Hah!” Jiang Cheng snorted. It was not a nice snort, Wei Wuxian thought crossly, and in retaliation, he decided not to respond.
Jiang Cheng finally spoke up again, after a long while in which Wei Wuxian had been distracting himself with thoughts of a new classification system for demons of the five elements. “We’ve been going in circles!” he said, and his tone bridled with frustration. “I recognise that rock formation over there. I caught my hand on it earlier – look, my blood is still fresh on the stone.”
Wei Wuxian looked at the rock, and indeed, Jiang Cheng’s blood still glistened on its surface. He wondered how he could have gotten so completely turned around – hadn’t he just been following the tendril of malevolent energy? He could’ve sworn he’d felt it getting stronger, too, which should have meant that they were nearing its source. How was it that they’d ended up circling back to where they’d started?
“I thought we were following the energy from the creature,” Jiang Cheng said irritably.
“Shhh,” Wei Wuxian said, not paying attention to him. “There’s something else at work here. Something I’m not getting.”
Surprisingly, Jiang Cheng quieted down, and leaned against the wall. He did so surreptitiously, as if to escape Wei Wuxian’s sight, but of course he noticed.
Jiang Cheng must be more drained than I thought, Wei Wuxian thought, if he’s stopped arguing with me. Especially since he’s been here for a few days more than me already, and with no food or water. I must find a way to get us out of here - and quickly.
He mustered what little spiritual energy he had left, and focused. In his mind he pushed aside the suppressing fog that clouded his thoughts and distracted his attention, concentrating only on sensing the pulses of energy emanating from every wall in the passageway around him. There was the faint tendril of energy from the creature responsible for the suppressing array, yes, and overwhelming amounts of resentful energy pouring from the corpses of the creature’s meals, and underneath it all… underneath all that energy…
“There’s a maze array in place,” he realised suddenly, his voice echoing in the stillness of the corridor. “It’s cleverly buried under the other layers of energy in this cave, but it’s there. It must have been cast a long time ago, for I could barely sense its presence. And it was not cast by the creature maintaining the suppressing array.”
“That’s what’s confusing your sense of direction?” Jiang Cheng asked despairingly. “Then how are we supposed to get out of here with little spiritual energy and our only lead a complete dead end?”
Wei Wuxian shook his head, mustering a small smile. “Don’t lose hope so easily, Jiang Cheng! We’ll find a way out. We just need a way to overcome the maze array – then we can follow the creature’s malevolent energy without being confused. We just need some way of maintaining our sense of direction.”
“What do you suggest we do? Is there any way to track our steps, perhaps?” Jiang Cheng said.
Wei Wuxian tapped idly at the side of his nose as he thought, pacing back and forth in the confined space. Jiang Cheng’s eyes, lit up by the flickering light of the paper talisman, followed him back and forth.
“I could cast a tracking spell… no, but with my depleted spiritual energy, that wouldn’t last long… I have the Compass of Evil which I worked on to improve last week, but this creature doesn’t consume souls, and so it wouldn’t work… Oh?”
The unravelling hem of his ratty travelling robe had snagged on a shard of rock protruding out of the wall, and had caused him to pause in his steps. Wei Wuxian stared down at the little loop of thread curled around the stone protrusion.
Suddenly, an epiphany came upon him.
“I have an idea!” he said, excitedly, and began picking apart the hem of his robe. Jiang Cheng lifted himself off the wall and came over to inspect what he was doing.
“What’s that supposed to do?” he asked sceptically. “Is it just another excuse for you to go naked again? Oi, just because it’s just me down here with you - ”
“It was one time, and I was eight,” Wei Wuxian said exasperatedly, “and don’t tell me you’d never seen a penis before that! I don’t know why you had to act like a blushing maiden and try to stab me with your brush. We’re both men, aren’t we? Nothing you haven’t seen before!”
While he’d been going on, and Jiang Cheng had started spluttering and turning interesting colours, he’d managed to unpick the thread from his robe, and tied it around a sturdy stalagmite on the ground. He gave the limestone pillar a few experimental pulls, and it didn’t budge.
“Now we just have to follow the thread, and we’ll know which routes we’ve walked, and which routes we haven’t!” he said brightly, as he straightened up.
“That’s… actually a good idea,” Jiang Cheng said grudgingly, crossing his arms over his chest and looking down at the stalagmite.
“I always have good ideas. Don’t you know?” Wei Wuxian said, grinning. “Come on, let’s hurry. I don’t know how many days have passed, but surely it’s been too long already. We should quickly find the monster’s hideout and then figure out a way to escape.”
It was indeed a good idea, if Wei Wuxian said so himself (and he did, multiple times, very smugly, so much so that Jiang Cheng started ignoring him again), and with its aid, they managed to find their way out of the maze of corridors that surrounded the rooms containing the corpses. Wei Wuxian heaved a sigh of relief as he finally felt the thick fog of resentful energy that had been giving him a massive headache, fade away into the background and eventually disappear.
Now, the passageways they walked were a little less damp, and a little less foul-smelling. There were even lamps embedded in the wall, unlit and covered with cobwebs, but obviously made by a talented craftsman. Wei Wuxian stopped to inspect one of them, and the style of its carvings and the technique of its forging marked it as a craft belonging to the dynasty of six centuries ago.
“Whatever inhabits this cave must be ancient indeed,” Jiang Cheng said grimly, as Wei Wuxian shared this insight with him.
They stopped abruptly as a carven wooden door appeared beside them, looming out of the darkness, leading into an enclave that branched off from the main tunnel.
The frame of the door extended high above their visible range, and as Wei Wuxian guided the talisman as far up as he dared without losing his tenuous hold on the charm, they realised just how large the tunnel was beginning to run. All they could see above them was darkness, and there was no observable ceiling. They exchanged glances, and with a mutual nod of acknowledgement, Jiang Cheng placed his palm on the door and pushed firmly.
It creaked open with a loud sound of protest. The noise made both of them wince and glance around sharply to see if the clamour had attracted any undue attention. But thankfully, even after a few moments of silence, they were still alone in the tunnel, with no foes in sight. Jiang Cheng pushed the door open all the way, and they peered into the darkness cautiously.
“It’s a library - !” Wei Wuxian exclaimed, his voice hushed, as the talisman floated into the room and lit up shelves upon shelves of crumbling, decaying books and scrolls. Jiang Cheng scanned the titles, trying to make out the words on their spines.
“Vegetarian Dietary Principles,” Jiang Cheng read out, “Journey to the West, Classic of Poetry, Classic – Classic of – Music?”
Wei Wuxian expelled a surprised breath and shook his head. “Whoever owned this library must have been a great patron of the arts - he’s even managed to acquire books which no one’s ever had a copy of before! It’s a collection to rival even that of the Gusu Lan library. But such a valuable hoard would usually be maintained zealously by its collector, not left to rot away in such a sorry state.”
The talisman settled on a pile of objects arranged neatly in the corner of the library, and Wei Wuxian felt his brows shoot up even further.
“A guqin, guzheng, pipa, dihu, yangqin – truly an impressive collection of instruments from all across China!” he said admiringly. “They’ve been left to gather dust as well, and they haven’t been maintained in a while. Things are becoming curiouser and curiouser indeed.”
“Perhaps the owner of the collection was eaten by the monster,” Jiang Cheng suggested.
“Perhaps,” Wei Wuxian said doubtfully. I feel that there’s something here we’re still not getting…
They left the library behind, unable to see much in the darkness and with their limited light source. Wei Wuxian had to light another talisman, for the previous one flickered and shrivelled to dust. Just as he did, his stomach let out a loud sound of dissatisfaction, and he automatically pressed a hand to his abdomen.
“I’m hungryyyyyy,” he whined. “Jiang Cheng, do you have any food?”
“Stop talking nonsense,” Jiang Cheng retorted sharply. “If I’d had any food, I’d long since have eaten it up already!”
“Ugh,” Wei Wuxian groaned, leaning dramatically forward as they walked. “I’m going to die of hunger. Who knows how many days and nights we’ve spent in here! It’s not like you have a set sleep schedule so we can count the days. We’ve probably been walking for a few days without rest already – and who knows how much longer it’ll take to get out.”
He felt his coat slip off his shoulder, and he looked down at it. Because of the unravelling string, his already-raggedy outerwear was falling apart, and it no longer resembled anything coat-like. Wei Wuxian shrugged it off and tucked it under his right arm, and was left only in his underthings.
“I feel the wind blowing through places I didn’t know existed,” he complained, shivering.
Jiang Cheng looked at him and immediately averted his eyes, a dull flush colouring his cheeks. “Shameless!” he spluttered. “What wind?! There’s barely any wind, we’re underground! Wei Wuxian, you’re truly shameless as always!”
“Now you’re starting to sound like the old Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian muttered under his breath. “One of him is good enough, thank you very much…”
Suddenly, there was an ear-splitting crash, and it was only their quick reflexes that caused them not to be buried under a large column of rocks that suddenly came pouring down on them. Both of them leapt to the side, and stared, bug-eyed, at the spot in which they had been standing just moments ago.
“Agh, my eyes,” said Jiang Cheng loudly, as the fog from the avalanche cleared, and piercing sunlight shone down on them from the large hole which had suddenly opened up in the ceiling of the tunnel, far above them. Wei Wuxian shielded his eyes with his hand and squinted blearily up at the hole.
…
“LAN ZHAN!!!!” he cried out happily, as he made eye contact with a very dear, familiar figure. Lan Zhan peered imperiously down at them, the sunlight making it seem as though his head was glowing.
“Speak of Cao Cao and Cao Cao will arrive,” Wei Wuxian said, bouncing excitedly up and down on the spot. “Didn’t I tell you Lan Zhan could be counted on to rescue us?* Huh? He’s reliable, isn’t he?”
*A/N: (he didn’t)
“Did you really have to invoke his name?” Jiang Cheng said grumpily, following his gaze upwards. “I always feel like he’s looking down on me, but now he’s actually literally looking down on me.”
Another figure appeared beside Lan Zhan and peeked cautiously over the edge of the hole. After squinting for a while more, Wei Wuxian realised it was Lan Xichen.
“Are you two alright?” Lan Xichen called down to them, his gentle voice filled with concern. “I’m afraid we went a little, ah, overboard in trying to get down to you two…”
“We’re fine, Zewu-jun, thanks for your concern!” Wei Wuxian hollered back up at them. “Won’t you come down and join us? We’re depleted of spiritual energy and unable to join you up there!”
Lan Zhan immediately flew down, but the moment he alighted and laid his eyes on Wei Wuxian, his finely-sculpted eyebrows shot up towards to his forehead.
“What – what happened to your outer robe?” he said, sounding faintly strangled.
“Oh – this? I used the string from my hem to track our progress through this cave,” Wei Wuxian replied cheerily. “There’s a maze array in place, although it’s quite difficult to detect, and with our limited spiritual energy there wasn’t any other way to stop ourselves getting lost. Jiang Cheng will tell you it was quite a clever idea. It must have been quite cold outside, Lan Zhan, your ears are turning pink! Here, rub your hands together…”
Jiang Cheng, predictably, ignored him and lifted his hands in a salute to Lan Xichen, who’d descended as well to join them. “Sect Leader Lan,” he said formally, and Lan Xichen returned the gesture. Jiang Cheng turned to Lan Zhan and repeated the gesture, a little more unwillingly.
“Here, take this,” Lan Zhan said, pulling a qiankun pouch out from his sleeve. Sticking his hand inside the pouch, he drew out an overcoat with the designs of the Gusu Lan sect and placed it securely around Wei Wuxian’s shoulders.
Wei Wuxian whistled in surprise and appreciation. “Lan Zhan, you came prepared! It’s one of your robes, isn’t it?” A thought occurred to him which made him laugh out loud in pure delight. “Ooh, Lan Zhan, are you embarrassed by my lack of clothing? You know I’m shameless, I don’t mind even if I’m just parading around in my underwear or even if I’m stark naked.”
“As you can tell, Hanguang-jun, he’s doing perfectly fine,” Jiang Cheng said acrimoniously. “The days of starvation and lack of spiritual energy haven’t done anything to dampen his personality.”
Wei Wuxian pouted. “Lan Zhan knows that,” he replied peevishly. “We killed the Xuanwu together under the same circumstances, remember?”
A soft laugh from the side reminded him of Lan Xichen’s presence, and he spun around to face him.
“Sect Leader Lan, what’re you doing here?” Wei Wuxian asked curiously. “I thought you were in seclusion. What brings you here?”
Lan Xichen smiled. “I was in seclusion, but Wangji came to me today and told me of your and Sect Leader Jiang’s disappearance. He was quite distressed by the news, and asked me for help to track the two of you down. And when I heard that A-Yao – that Jin Guangyao had been seen in the area…”
He hesitated, and said no more. None of them pressed him further.
“How did you manage to find us?” Jiang Cheng asked quickly, directing his question at Lan Zhan.
“Jin Ling wrote to me when he found that you were missing,” Lan Zhan answered. “We followed your trail to this place. And I could sense Wei Ying’s energy coming from here, so we entered here.”
“You could sense my energy?” Wei Wuxian asked, bewildered by this new turn of events. “But – how? Plus the suppressing array – “
“Where is the human-eating monster?” Lan Zhan asked abruptly, cutting him off. “Have you already killed it?”
After a pause, Wei Wuxian shook his head, and relayed the events of the past few days to them. It turned out that Jiang Cheng had been missing for nine days, and Wei Wuxian for three – that explains why Jiang Cheng looks so exhausted, he thought to himself; nine days without food or drink will do that to you.
Lan Xichen passed them water in a flask and two bags filled with baozi, steamed buns, which Jiang Cheng immediately started scarfing down ravenously. Lan Zhan took the other bag and held up the flask to Wei Wuxian’s mouth.
“Drink,” he said softly. One of his hands came up behind Wei Wuxian’s back to steady him.
Wei Wuxian drank obediently, thinking, I am so loved.
When he finished, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. Lan Zhan immediately fished one of the baozi out of the bag and held it up for Wei Wuxian to take a bite. The meat inside the bun tasted truly delicious to his starved palate, and he couldn’t stop himself from letting out little ‘mm’s of enjoyment as he chewed.
Only when Wei Wuxian had finished munching on the baozi did Lan Zhan exhale and relax, although his hand still remained on Wei Wuxian’s lower back.
“Thanks, Lan Zhan,” he said, smiling widely. Something about Lan Zhan’s presence always left him feeling refreshed. “I knew I could count on you. You’re such a reliable friend. No wonder you’re the Chief Cultivator, indeed!”
“You’re fucking kidding me,” Jiang Cheng said indistinctly, and Wei Wuxian whipped around to look at him.
(If he was being perfectly honest, he’d forgotten Jiang Cheng – and Lan Xichen – were there.)
The two of them were staring openly at him and Lan Zhan, the bag of baozi dangling loosely from Jiang Cheng’s hand and Jiang Cheng’s cheeks still stuffed with bites of baozi so that he looked like a squirrel. Lan Xichen’s smile looked like it had ossified on his face.
“What?” Wei Wuxian said in confusion. He looked at Lan Zhan for reassurance that he wasn’t the only one bewildered in this situation, but Lan Zhan seemed to be trying to do something with his face, alternately widening and squinting his eyes at the two other people.
Lan Xichen coughed. “Never – never mind, Young Master Wei,” he said, his smile back on his face, although now it looked a little bit forced. “If you’ve finished your meal, we should proceed with your original plan to find the human-eating monster. Wangji and I have spent only a few moments in this cave, but already I can feel the effects of the suppressing array. Wangji, you feel it too?”
Lan Zhan inclined his head, his face back to its usual expressionlessness. “It was not cast by a human,” he replied. “The energy is different. Staying here longer than necessary will result in full depletion of our spiritual energy.” He materialised his guqin and played a few complicated sounding notes. Blue light flared as he cast the pathfinding spell, and it formed a faint line on the ground showing the direction in which they were to go.
“We must hurry,” he said brusquely, “or my energy will fail and the spell will disappear.”
“Got it,” Wei Wuxian said, nodding decisively, feeling much more comfortable and at ease now that he was no longer alone with Jiang Cheng, and Lan Zhan was here at his side. As they walked, Wei Wuxian filled the silence with his usual chatter, speculating about the origins of the creature and how it could possibly have cast a suppressing array, interrupted only by Lan Zhan’s ‘mm’s of acknowledgment and the occasional offered insight.
If he was speaking a little louder than usual, it was only because he could feel the supreme awkwardness radiating off the two sect leaders walking behind them. It wasn’t coming off Lan Xichen, no – Wei Wuxian had previously turned around surreptitiously to check on the two of them and Lan Xichen had looked perfectly at ease and his usual composed self. Rather, it was Jiang Cheng who was blatantly trying to avoid everyone’s gaze, and who’d answered Lan Xichen’s initial attempts at conversations with curt, albeit polite, rejoinders.
That’s strange, Wei Wuxian mused to himself, as he chattered on to Lan Zhan about his theories regarding whether or not beasts had souls akin to that of humans, Jiang Cheng’s used to silence and isn’t often fazed. I wonder if something happened between him and Zewu-jun? Or maybe he’s just tired. Or maybe he feels left out of the conversation between me and Lan Zhan? But that’s not my fault! He’s the one being all grumpy and crabby. I mean, I know things aren’t exactly back to normal between us, but I’d thought after the Guanyin Temple events he’d started to hate me a little bit less…
“We’re here,” Lan Zhan said, stopping abruptly, as the faint blue line on the ground ended and they were faced with a large door.
This was different from the door that had led into the library, for it was carved out of granite and not wood, and gems were embedded deep into the stone in a pattern that radiated out from the centre, where two large knockers were located. The faces of two door gods glared at them out of the darkness, painted as they were on either panel of the door.
It must have been a glorious sight, Wei Wuxian thought to himself, when the lamps had been lit. But now the gems only gleamed dully in the limited light from the talisman, and the paint of the door gods was chipped and peeling. Now their stares looked mournful, rather than stern and majestic, as they would have been before.
Words were carved into the upper frame of the door, large, sombre characters in ancient text. They looked as if they had been etched into the stone by a great claw, the edges of the words were still clear and relatively unchipped by time.
“Cave of… Cave of Dormancy?” Wei Wuxian read with some difficulty, for he had not practised reading ancient scripts to any significant extent.
“There is a great well of yang energy beyond this door,” Lan Xichen said from behind them, his voice almost awestruck. Wei Wuxian concurred. As they had been following the path indicated by Lan Zhan’s pathfinding spell, he too had felt the presence of a boundless amount of yang energy emanating from some unseen force, that now apparently lay behind this door.
Even in his weakened state, it felt ponderous and overpowering; he could not imagine what it felt like for Lan Zhan and Lan Xichen, whose reserves of energy were mostly intact. True to his thoughts, Lan Zhan staggered slightly, and the blue line on the ground faded. Wei Wuxian dropped the ratty overcoat tucked under his arm, and steadied him with a hand on his elbows.
The faint crackle of Zidian echoed throughout the space as Jiang Cheng clenched his fist, and he strode forward, placing his palm on the handle of the door.
“Sect Leader Jiang, we must be cautious,” Lan Xichen said, and in his gentle voice it did not sound like a rebuke. Jiang Cheng spared him a sideways glance, then nodded shortly. It took the both of them to push the heavy doors open, and Lan Zhan levered himself out of Wei Wuxian’s grasp to peer carefully into the chamber.
It was the light that hit them first, and blinded them.
Jiang Cheng grunted in surprise and cast his head away, for he had been the first one to gain entrance to the chamber. Wei Wuxian pushed his way forward and squinted into the blinding light.
Once his eyes had stopped metaphorically bleeding, he made out lamps on the walls, larger than the ones in the passageways, and this time, these were lit, with a curious iridescent flame that flickered and danced even though there was no wind.
As his eyes adjusted to the brightness, he began to make out more features of the room. It was a vast chamber, with the ceiling towering high above them, and every panel of the walls inlaid with gold and jade. Golden dragons snarled motionlessly at them from the corners of the room, their presumably-once-gleaming surfaces now flecked with dirt. Two thrones sat at the far end of the room – which was more like a hall – one enormous and golden, the other slightly smaller and carved in jade. A thin layer of dust covered every single object and surface in the room.
Except for the centre of the chamber, a shining golden pedestal, upon which lay a great slumbering long.
There was a sharp intake of breath from behind Wei Wuxian from Lan Zhan that told him he’d noticed the long as well. Very slowly, not daring to take even a single breath, Wei Wuxian stepped backwards and back into the passageway.
Once he was no longer in the hall, he spun around, his eyes open so wide he felt they were about to fall out of his skull.
“It’s a Shenlong. A heavenly dragon,” he hissed frantically. “The nine resemblances were present: the stag’s horns, the camel’s head, the demon’s eyes, the snake’s neck, the clam’s belly, the carp’s scales, the tiger’s paws, the cow’s ears, and most distinctive of the Shenlong, out of all the types of long – the eagle’s claws, of which there were five on each foot.”
Jiang Cheng’s were equally wide. “Is it… is it the real thing?” he managed. “Or is it a deformed copy, like the Xuanwu of Slaughter you and Lan Wangji fought?”
“He is a true Shenlong,” Lan Xichen spoke, and there was a subtle tremor in his voice. “He had the chimu atop its head, without which he may not ascend to the heavens.”
“That explains how he was able to cast the suppressing array, and the non-human aura of his energy, given that a Shenlong is a fully sentient being and not merely a mindless beast. But what’s he doing down here, though?” Wei Wuxian wondered aloud. “A Shenlong belongs in the heavens or in the body of water he governs, not under the ground where he has no access to the water which sustains him.”
Lan Xichen shook his head, his gaze equally uncomprehending. “Before we left the chamber, I observed that there were large lacquer panels on the walls with accompanying text, which likely depicted the Shenlong and his story,” he said quietly. “I did not get a close enough look at the words, however. But there is one thing beyond doubt – this Shenlong is unlike his more benevolent peers, and is responsible for the disappearances of the people of Yunmeng. We must find a way to observe both the Shenlong and the panels on the walls, which may give us a clue as to how to combat him.”
“According to the stories, it has superior sight and smell,” Lan Zhan spoke up. “It will be difficult to evade its notice.”
“It did not notice us when we first entered, however, and we were rather noisy,” Jiang Cheng said. “If we are careful, we should be fine.”
Given that none of them saw any other way to proceed, it was on that note of caution that they entered the chamber once again. Wei Wuxian kept his eyes firmly trained on the Shenlong, but even as they eased themselves slowly past the door and into the room, he did not wake. The lines of his magnificent, serpentine body rose and fell in tandem with his breaths, and the silky tendrils of his beard fluttered in the air that whooshed out of his nostrils. A pearl glimmered faintly from where it was nestled underneath his chin.
Wei Wuxian could not help but stop and admire his majestic beauty. It was truly a sight he’d never thought he’d see in his lifetime, for long were said to be mere figments of imagination, myths of the past.
But… I suppose, if there’s a Xuanwu, why not a Shenlong? It was a perfectly reasonable line of logic, he thought, and besides, unless he and the other three were having mass hallucinations, the proof of truth in those supposed legends lay before his own eyes.
It was only when he was sure that the Shenlong was deep in slumber, that he finally turned his attention to the four lacquer panels on the wall. These were clearly done by a great artist - like the rest of the statues and art pieces of the chamber - for the panels were carefully inlaid with mother-of-pearl and gold leaf carved into the shapes of miniscule birds and flowers that fluttered in and adorned the background of the scenes. Below each panel were lines of ancient script, carved deep into the rock by the same great claw which had labelled this cavern the Cave of Dormancy.
The words were not clear to him, given his inability to read ancient text, but thankfully, the pictures were evocative enough that he was able to get the main gist of the story. In the first panel, the Shenlong perched atop a mountain, watching as the towns and people in his purview were washed away by strong wind and rain. In the next screen, he was depicted swooping downwards into the fray and picking off various unfortunate victims from the deluge of water below. His large bulging eyes, created with carven jade gemstones, glimmered malevolently in the light. Blood gushed from his cavernous jaws.
Then, in the next panel, a Fenghuang – a divine phoenix - had descended upon the scene, and was tussling violently with the Shenlong, her long, sharp beak digging into the flesh of the Shenlong’s leg where it was buried. The artist had captured their likenesses so perfectly that the extended claws of the Fenghuang seemed to leap out from the painting at viewers, and her vibrant feathers appeared soft and inviting to the touch.
The scene depicted in the final screen was set in a familiar location: here, in the Cave of Dormancy, the Fenghuang presided over the Shenlong, the iridescent plumage on her wings spread wide as she cast her shadow on the slumbering Shenlong. His long body was now marked heavily with the scars of battle and blood, and he lay in exactly the same position as he was in now, atop the golden pedestal, feet tucked under his body and tail curled round his head; a curiously docile posture.
The only difference between then and now, Wei Wuxian reflected, as he glanced back to the actual Shenlong, was the array of bones now scattered haphazardly around his pedestal – some animal, some human.
The old stories only tell of the Shenlong as a noble and wise creature, who bestows rain upon peasants as a water god, Wei Wuxian thought to himself. This Shenlong must be a rogue one, akin to the black dragon of Jizhou which was killed by the goddess Nüwa. This Shenlong must have brought calamity to the surrounding towns and abused his power to consume human flesh.
All this information he recalled from dusty textbooks and boring lessons on rainy days that seemed a lifetime away – well, he corrected in his mind, for him at least, they were a lifetime away. But there was no time to dwell on his sad past, now. The important thing at hand now, was to find a way to defeat this Shenlong, and stop it from killing any more Yunmeng people. The only thing was – how? Wei Wuxian could see from the grim look in the eyes of his companions that they were similarly nonplussed.
In the stories, there were few who actually fought a long, and even fewer who survived, Wei Wuxian thought, his brain working furiously. Of those few, most were deities or gods like the Monkey God Sun Wukong, or the Third Lotus Prince Nezha. Long have few weaknesses and many strengths, and it will be difficult to conquer it without external, godly help…
Then, all of a sudden, came the clear, sonorous ring of a bell.
Immediately, all four of them froze. Slowly their gazes turned, from the four panels on the wall, and landed on the Shenlong sleeping atop the golden pedestal.
Wei Wuxian’s last thoughts?
…
We’re fucked.

--------------------------------
The first sign something was off was when Logan woke up with only a bundle of snake curled around him. Normally both Remus and Deceit would barge in on Logan in the middle of the night to coax their workaholic boyfriend to bed. He thought he remembered them both being there. Logan just brushed it off, thinking maybe Remus had just woken up earlier than them.
He tightened his arms around Deceit, pressing soft kisses to the top of his head, fluffy and soft hair pressing into Logan's face. Deceit mumbled incoherently, shifting only slightly before relaxing again.
"Think it's time to get up, Dee," Logan whispered, pulling back only slightly so he could see Deceit's face. Deceit groaned, hiding his face in Logan's chest. "C'mon, I wanna make sure Remus isn't trying to make breakfast."
Deceit glanced up, his heterochromatic eyes looking as beautiful as ever to Logan. Logan smiled softly, bringing his hand to Deceit's hair and combing through it. Deceit made a soft sound of content before he pushed himself up and out of Logan's arms. Not without pressing a quick kiss to Logan's lips of course.
Logan followed, and Deceit escaped to his room after pressing one last kiss to Logan's cheek, going to get dressed. Logan changed into his usual polo and jeans, slipping on a tie that Remus had made him for Christmas before he deemed himself ready to get some breakfast.
When he walked into the main commons, however, he was surprised to find it quiet. Roman was at the table, drawing thoughtlessly in his sketchbook. Virgil was still sleeping on the couch, undoubtedly where he had fallen asleep during a Disney marathon with Roman. And Patton hadn't come down yet.
Arms wrapped around him from behind, a gentle kiss being pressed into his neck. Logan initially thought he'd found his missing boyfriend, but glancing over his shoulder he saw scales shimmering brilliantly in the morning light.
"I thought you said Remus was trying to make breakfast?" Deceit hummed, resting his chin on Logan's shoulder. Logan leaned into Deceit slightly, the warmth of his shorter love comforting.
"His room then?"
"I'll check if you start breakfast."
"Deal," Logan said as he turned to kiss Deceit. This kiss lasted longer and was far softer than their tired ones from only ten minutes ago. Deceit let him go again once they broke apart and turned to go back up the stairs. And so, Logan went into the kitchen, nodding at Roman when he waved and muttered a good morning. He started to pull out some bread and microwaveable pancakes.
Deceit, meanwhile, knocked on Remus's door. He was surprised when he received no response, and didn't hear any noise. He knew Remus wouldn't be in the Imagination today, as he'd only returned two days ago and Remus had claimed just yesterday he wanted to spend at least a week with Deceit and Logan.
He knocked again, louder this time in case Remus just hadn't heard.
Again, Deceit received no answer.
So he tried the doorknob and found Remus's room to be unlocked. He walked in without much hesitation, glancing around Remus's spotless room. It was easy to find Remus, with the lack of the mess that normally accumulated his room. He was bundled in numerous blankets, his stuffed animals lying not far from him, and his head burrowed in pillows. Deceit frowned, hearing loud sniffling.
"Hey darling," Deceit said softly as he sat down on the bed, a bit confused. "Is everything okay?" He assumed Remus might've been crying- Remus usually only bundled himself up like this when he was upset. But that was a rare occurrence after he started dating Logan and Deceit.
Remus groaned in response, turning to look at Deceit. His nose was all red and he looked far paler than usual. Deceit's eyes widened. "'m not feelin' great," Remus slurred, his voice scratchy and he winced. Deceit cooed softly, reaching to brush Remus's bangs from his face. He could feel Remus's skin burning, and his frown deepened.
"You shouldn't be wrapped like this, Octi, not when you seem to have a fever."
"But cold...."
"You have chills too?"
Remus nodded. Deceit sighed. "Okay. I'll go let Logan know, and get you some medicine." Remus made a noise that sounded happy as Deceit stood.
He left Remus's door open as he first went downstairs to retrieve Logan.
"Remus is sick?" Roman piped up worriedly after Deceit had explained the situation to Logan, ad the pair looked to the other half of creativity.
"Seems like a cold, or maybe a minor flu to me. But yeah," Deceit said. "Why..... why do you look so worried?"
Roman closed his notebook. "Because the last time either of us were sick we set like, half of the Imagination on fire."
"Good reason to worry- I'll go get that medicine if you want to finish making some toast for him and you just check on him?" Deceit said, and the other two were in action as quickly as Deceit spoke.
The day went by agonizingly slow as Deceit, Logan, and Roman fussed over Remus. Logan managed to get Remus to discard most of his blankets and got him to eat some ice pops as that was all Remus claimed he could stomach and something was better than nothing. And despite Logan's insistence that he shouldn't, Deceit gladly cuddled up to his sick boyfriend, offering quiet comfort in the form of soft kisses to the back of his neck. Loga really couldn't argue for long though, seeing how Remus looked more content. And Roman happily retrieved some books from his room that Remus might've liked for Logan to read to Remus, and he also fetched his brother some tea to soothe his sore throat.
It wasn't until Remus started to sneeze did they become even more worried.
They hadn't noticed it at first, but when he sneezed, little critters started to appear around the mind palace in various numbers. When they did finally realize, it was only after the sound of glass shattering and a yelp rang up to them from the living room. As Deceit was asleep behind Remus, holding him close, and Logan was currently getting another dose of medicine ready, Roman was the one to venture downstairs to see what the commotion was.
He was expecting Patton to have discovered a spider, or Virgil had finally woken up and maybe he had startled Patton.
What he didn't expect though, was to see the glass of what was once a mug mixed with some spilled tea spreading along the floor just outside the kitchen, and three little octopi in Patton's hands. Each one was a different, very vibrant color with dark markings all along their tiny bodies, and for some reason, they were in various outfits. Patton looked towards Roman, then he heard Virgil swear and they looked to the couch where Virgil was sat sitting up, with one tiny octopus of his own latched onto his arm.
"I'm going to assume this is Remus's doing?" Patton asked. "Though it seems a bit odd for something so adorable to be something he made."
Now it made sense to Roman, and he just sighed, dragging a hand through his hair.
"It is Remus, he's sick..."
"So he's deciding to spawn these gremlins all over the mind palace?" Virgil questioned, pointing to some of the shelves and even their TV, where more octopi peeked out at them.
"Not deciding, he has no control over this." Roman started to collect the little octopi, examining them briefly. "I think he'd be happy with them though." Once they were all bundled carefully in his arms, Roman looked back at the moral and anxious sides. "If more start appearing, I say just bring them to either mine or Remus's room. I'm sure he'll find a place for them in the Imagination when he's feeling better."
"Alright, let Remus know I hope he feels better soon!"
"I still don't get the octopi, but same I guess..."
Roman nodded at them before making his way upstairs.
And if the octopi made Remus's face light up, despite sneezing and another five appearing on Logan, the others didn't mention it, just committed the picture to memory before going back to fussing over Remus's health.

➹types of kisses➹(peter parker x reader)
A colorful collection of your many types of kisses, because a kiss can have more than just one meaning.
a/n: i know i’m three days late, but this is my christmas present :) (sorry for the shitty title) it’s kinda different to what i usually write because there’s really no... plot? it’s just one big but short compilation of fluff and tropes that will give you real bad diabetes. i was gonna include a break-up kiss but bc i’m nice, i decided against it lmaoooo. also !! i wrote this for ps4 peter, but i honestly can imagine it with mcu peter as well-- just choose whatever you prefer ! anyway, i hope whoever is reading this has a wonderful new year, ily.
warnings: making out, a lil bit of grinding but nothing more than that, cursing.
——-
FIRST KISS - KISS ME IN THE PARK, WE’LL MEET UP AFTER DARK
It wasn’t exactly how you wanted it to be.
Not that you thought about kissing Peter Parker too much, anyway. He was one of your best friends, and who thinks about kissing friends? Definitely not you.
Alright, that was a lie— you used to think about it. A lot. And unbeknownst to you, he did as well. However, contrary to your lack of knowledge about his urges, you did know that, for a while now, his feelings towards you changed. And, similarly, he was aware that your own feelings for him, too, transformed into something more. Further than friendly embraces or innocent sleepovers when you were little kids. Bigger than platonic emotion. More than a simple friendship.
It lingered in your minds and was evident in everyone’s eyes, yet neither of you had the courage to move past friendship.
One night at eleven-thirteen, as the two of you— two grown-ups— were in a playground, doing the spider on a swing together and laughing enough that your stomachs ached, that craving to meet his lips resurfaced with such vigor, it spilled out of your mouth.
“Can I say something?!” You laughed as you swayed higher into the air, a yelp involuntarily fleeting past your lips and your legs tightening around Peter’s waist since you feared you were close to falling off the swing and on your back. “Thank you for picking up— shit!— the phone! I really missed you, you know— ow, okay, this really hurts!”
“Okay, I think you’ve had enough,” Peter’s feet immediately skidded against the ground to put your swinging to a halt, sand flying everywhere. Once you were still, you both remained giggling and with youthful smiles that reached your eyes. “Of course I was gonna pick up the phone. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t?” He said, and you had to hold yourself back from making a face at the word ‘friend’. You couldn’t complain— that’s that you were, after all. Except that this didn’t feel like merely hanging out, rather it appeared like a date.
“It’s pretty late, though.”
Peter shrugged. “Even if it were three AM, I’d still answer any of your calls.”
Your face softened and you bit the inside of your cheek, staring down at your lap. “That’s cute. But if you called me at three AM, I’d tell you to fuck off and then go back to sleep.” Peter opened his mouth in disbelief at your honesty, shaking his head.
“Wow, thanks. I’m glad our love is mutual.”
“It is mutual,” And it was indeed. “I just express it differently. For example, I tell you to stop working yourself to the bone so you can hang out with me and do adult stuff.” You placed one hand on his shoulder and gestured with the other to the empty playground you were in.
Peter chuckled, quirking a brow whilst he unconsciously began to move the two of you back and forth a little. “Adult stuff, huh?” You nodded solemnly.
“This is very mature.” You raised your nose in a not-so-mature way. Peter copied your previous gesture, humming.
“You’re right. Playgrounds were made for twenty-three-year-olds, after all.”
You giggled, but then changed your expression into a more stern one. “For real, you gotta give yourself a break.” You warned him, shaking your finger at him to add more of an emphasis, however, instead you amused him more than anything in the process.
He raised his hands. “Hey, it’s the city that never sleeps.” He defended, but you narrowed your eyes, giving him a look that was enough to communicate you were not accepting any humor. He dropped his hands and hung his head dramatically, sighing. “All right, I’ll try. But I can’t promise anything.”
You smiled sadly. “I know you can’t.” You quickly exchanged your frown for a smirk. “But if you don’t listen to me, I’m afraid you’re gonna have to make it up to me.” You joked, and Peter cocked his head to one side, wearing a crooked smile.
“How, exactly?”
All playfulness vanished and the warmth within your stomach took the spotlight yet again. Kiss me, a thought popped into your head, threatening to control your tongue. But you couldn’t. Even if your eyes accidentally flickered down to his mouth, and he undoubtedly noticed, for he gripped the swing’s chains tightly. You really wanted to say it.
So you chose to do it.
“Maybe you could…” You trailed off as soon as you caught onto some movement in the background, your sight shifting from Peter’s face to it. Suddenly, your eyes grew wide. “Oh, fuck.”
“W-What?” Peter turned to look behind his back, but before he could observe anything, he felt your legs unwrap from his body followed by a heavy object hitting the ground. His head whipped back to stare at you, and now his eyes were the ones about to pop out of his sockets when he saw you on the ground. “Y/N! Jeez, are you okay—”
You jumped to your feet, not bothering to dust off the sand off your clothes before you yanked Peter away from the swing, shushing unnecessarily louder and completely opposing your intention. “Shut up! We have to hide!” You hissed at him, peeking behind his body.
Peter tried following your gaze a second time, but you pulled at his arm harshly. “Why?!”
“Just— just follow me!” Was your explanation as you dragged him to hide behind a tree. You put your hand against the wood, slowly leaning to your side until the tree trunk uncovered your eye. Pointing at a woman standing up from a bench and a guy walking up to her, you glanced back at Peter. “You see her?”
Peter furrowed his brows, momentarily looking down at you. “...Y-Yeah? Isn’t that the teacher you told me about? The one who teaches at your cousin’s school?”
“Yes! And look at her!”
Peter’s attention returned to the woman who hugged her jacket close to her body and now spoke to the man, not discerning anything suspicious at the moment. “She’s talking to someone.” He pointed out the obvious, unimpressed. You groaned, rubbing your eyes.
“That someone is one of her students.”
Peter blinked and eyed the man who turned out to be a teenager. “Oh, he looks much older—”
“Because he’s a fucking drug addict! And I bet she’s his dealer!” You scream-whispered at him, flailing your arm towards the pair.
“I thought you were just joking when you first said that.”
You rolled your eyes, and continued watching them. Whatever the conversation was, it had all of a sudden turned into an argument as the woman poked the kid’s chest with her finger. “Why are they just talking, though?” You asked quietly, as if Peter somehow would have the answer. The volume of their voices increased, but you couldn’t make out any of the words. Scoffing, you shuffled away from Peter. “I gotta hear what they’re saying—”
Before you could tip-toe away from the tree, Peter gripped your arm and pulled you into him. “No. She has a gun.” He motioned to an object peeking out of her pants’ back pocket, and upon further squinting your eyes, you realized it was, in fact, a weapon. Peter gently pushed you towards the tree and he took a step back. “I’ll go make sure nothing bad happens while you stay here, okay?”
You stuttered, your brows snapping together. “No, this is my fucking case, you dickhead.” You began to speed walk past him, but you couldn’t get too far— he grabbed your arm and tugged you back once again. “Peter!”
“Y/N, you’re not a goddamn private investigator—”
“Well, tonight I am!” You broke free from his grasp; however, he quickly had you back in his hold.
“No, what are you doing?!” He embraced you tighter when you squirmed wildly.
“Peter, the kid could be in danger!”
“You don’t even know how to fight!”
“Oh, and you do?” You retorted without thinking. When he processed the absurdity you’d just uttered, he let go of you and stared at you dumbfounded, struggling to speak. Finally, he pointed at himself, his forehead creased.
“I’m Spider-Man!”
You scrunched up your nose, nodding. “Yeah, I don’t know why I said that.”
You totally did. As he remained puzzled, you took the chance and started a race to a tree standing near the woman and the kid. Completely forgetting about Peter’s super-speed, you thought you had succeeded until halfway there, he quickly caught up to you. Without a warning, he tackled you to the ground, falling on top of you whilst you cried out in pain.
“Ow! What the fuck, dude?!” You groaned loudly, but then you slapped your mouth when you recognized how noisy you’d been. Their conversation stopped abruptly, crickets singing whole-heartedly as you and Peter stared at each other wide-eyed.
“Did you hear that? Did you bring someone with you?” You both heard the woman ask. To your horror, footsteps approaching you were the next sound to reach your ears. “Hey, who’s there?!”
“Great, look at what you did—”
“You fucking tackled me to the ground!”
Peter surveyed the area promptly, and his gaze fixated on the tree you initially sprinted towards. He didn’t hesitate before he lifted his hand and aimed his wrist to shoot a web to get both of you out of there. But you had other plans.
You gripped the collar of his shirt, distracting him. “I’m so sorry for what I’m about to do, but just— just trust me and follow me, okay?” You breathed out, eyeing him. Peter opened his mouth, about to ask for you to elaborate.
“Wh—” You pulled him down and crashed your lips into his, muffling his exclamation of surprise. Stunned, his eyes stayed open, and when he didn’t react, yours fluttered open to signal at him to play the part. As soon as the hairs of his arms stuck up, he shut his eyelids closed and kissed you back, cupping your face and fully getting into it.
The woman jumped from behind the tree, confident she’d found the culprits of the noise, and— well— yes, she had. However, she didn’t expect to walk upon two people on the grass, in the middle of a make-out session. She grimaced the moment she saw your legs around Peter’s waist and your hands running all over his back as you fucking moaned to a point that it was forthright pornographic.
“Oh!” She exclaimed, her cheeks reddening perhaps more than your face and Peter’s, and she instantly turned around, leaving you two alone.
You two continued, waiting until the woman made an excuse and abandoned the teen. Ten seconds passed and you finally broke the kiss, panting heavily as Peter unknowingly searched for your lips again. “That worked like a charm, huh?” You laughed, dazed and the speed of your heartbeat only incrementing when you saw Peter’s swollen lips.
“Yeah, yeah… a better warning would’ve been nice.”
“Shut up.”
“And was the moaning really… necessary?”
“I saw it on a show. It makes people more uncomfortable.” You explained, out of breath, and he nodded. You both stared at each other, not bothering to move yet. “For the record, you’re a good kisser.” You blurted out and grinned sheepishly. Peter returned the expression, chuckling and unbelieving of your existence.
“S-So are you. But my plan was better.” He smiled bashfully, holding himself up with his hands next to your head. You doubted his statement, narrowing your eyes.
“Did it involve kissing?”
“No.”
“Then it wasn’t.”
You might have forgotten about your drug deal case and continued making out.
HELLO AND GOODBYE KISSES - TOOTHPASTE KISSES
Two months into dating, neither of you thought much about them anymore. Once they became part of your routine, it’s an absent-minded action, not much different from brushing your teeth, or Peter entering your apartment through your window instead of the door like everyone else. But then again, Peter wasn’t merely everyone else. And your unconscious routine kisses weren’t exactly just another bullet point in your ‘to-do’ list, either. If one of you forgot, or simply did not have enough time to spare, you’d both find yourselves missing it.
Which was why you tried your best to follow through with them, despite what situations either of you found yourselves in.
The alarm did not go off that morning (or perhaps you both passed out before you could set it in the first place— you couldn’t remember precisely), reason why you nearly choked on the lather of toothpaste while you brushed your teeth as if your life depended on it. In a way, however, it did, especially your job: you were now running outrageously late, and you could already imagine your boss’ blank expression as he told you he needed to ‘have a talk’ with you since this was the third time it occurred. You whined. You were doomed.
Peter joined you in the bathroom, jumping on one foot as he slid his other leg into his Spider-Man suit. He made a noise and caught your attention— finally, you noticed he had an entire piece of toast in his mouth. He tried to say something with the bread in between his teeth, but it was incomprehensible. You raised your brows, attempting to communicate with him without taking out your toothbrush. You both went on like that for thirty seconds: doing hand gestures and mumbling without getting any idea across until Peter finally put on his suit and bit off a chunk of his breakfast.
“Have you seen my phone?” He asked, his mouth full. You spat out the toothpaste and he couldn’t help the smitten smile that his heart painted onto his face when he saw the froth around your mouth.
“I put it right next to my keys.” You said as you washed your brush. Peter hummed and swallowed before he walked up to you.
“Alright, thanks. I really gotta run now, though.” He planted a kiss on your temple and you groaned in disgust when you felt the crumbles of his toast on your skin.
“Gross,” You wiped your forehead and Peter rolled his eyes, shoving you playfully and about to leave until you grabbed his arm. “Wait!” You encircled his neck with your arms and pecked his cheek for longer than usual, purposefully smearing his face with toothpaste.
“Ugh, gross!” He mimicked you and leaned away from you, laughing. You puckered your white lips, still trying to reach him but his arms pushed you back. “Nuh-uh, I gotta run.”
“No toothpaste kiss from your love?”
“No.”
“Toast kiss?”
“You’re gonna get fired.”
You let him go.
Later that night, Peter entered your living room, his search for you coming to an end once he saw you asleep on the couch. He laughed quietly, in the back of his head wishing he was sleeping, too, with you, and he kneeled down in front of you. He kissed the tip of your nose— the way he liked to greet you in spite of what state you were in. When he stood up, you blinked your eyes open and you lazily grinned up at him. “Peter-Man is back.”
His gaze moved down to you, guilt appearing after he saw you let out a long yawn. “Ah, man, I didn’t want to wake you.”
You had to return his hello kiss, and so you clutched his hand and pressed your mouth against his gloved knuckles. “C’mere. Join me in my slumber.” You said with an overdone accent.
He didn’t even consider telling you to move to your bed. He plopped down on the small space left and snuggled into you, his own yawn overpowering him. You hugged him tightly from behind, and within minutes, you were both deep into your sleep.
The next morning, you woke up late yet again.
HEATED KISSES - WE’VE GOT ONE THING IN COMMON, IT’S THIS TONGUE OF MINE
It’d been your first date in four months, and you swore your sex drive had never been higher.
Peter noticed, of course, and took the decision to ditch the dinner you had originally planned once you finished the movie you were watching— or tried to watch, since you couldn’t take your hands nor lips off him during its entirety. As the credits rolled, you straddled his hips, sucking on the flesh of his jaw. You itched to see his face when he groaned— and my God, that sound did not help your case at all.
You began to trail your mouth down his neck, decorating it with a whole masterpiece of bruises, and Peter wondered how he was going to cover those up; but at the moment, it did not matter a single bit. The two of you were too into it to pull away—
“Ugh, wait—” Or not. Peter stopped you and you blinked at him as he sat straight, taking out the TV’s control remote from under him. “That was really bothering me.” He immediately pulled you back into a kiss, tugging your hair and provoking a small moan out of you.
He broke away from you, his smirk transforming into the fuel feeding your lust. “You really like that, huh?”
“Shut up.” You mumbled and your lips continued to mold into each other with desperation, the sexual desire which had build-up since your last encounter brimming as your tongues met. Peter slowly began to lift the hem of your shirt, and your excitement erupted in the pit of your stomach at the fact that you finally wouldn’t have to wait anymore—
Your phone began to ring. You tried to ignore it, but your ringtone made it impossible. “Hold on,” You sighed, disappointed, and turned your phone off, your jaw set in annoyance. Yet again, you resumed where you left off, more urgent than before. Your hand moved his own back up to your hair whilst the other ran up his thigh. He failed in holding back the jerk of his hips as he pulled at your hair yet again, your moans synchronized. You couldn’t have been more elated you both wore your pajama bottoms as you began to grind down onto his crotch.
Peter dug his fingers into your hips and he threw his head back, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down when he gulped to keep his noises down lest your neighbors heard you. “No, no, I wanna hear you—” You breathed out, speeding up your pace, whining yourself. He collided his mouth against yours, grunting into your kiss.
You didn’t know what had gotten into you, but you really, really, really did not wish to stop. And you weren’t going to this time, no matter what—
“Tonight’s our last party as high school people!” A voice and music blasted from the TV and you both jolted away from each other, startled. The credits had gone on long enough that the streaming service began to play a trailer for another movie, the volume at its fullest from where you’d left it earlier. You let out the most exasperated groan in your lifetime and furiously moved off of Peter to go and unplug the TV; however, he slipped his hands under your butt and picked you up.
“The bedroom—” He panted and stopped neglecting your lips as he carried you and ran towards your room, the two of you giggling maniacally when he stumbled through the door and then slammed it shut.
The trailer played all night long.
EMOTIONAL KISSES - STOP YOUR CRYING, IT’S ALRIGHT— SHUT UP, KISS ME, HOLD ME TIGHT
Peter had lost the fight.
Although you were useless, you tried getting there in time, hoping you could cause any distraction that would give him an advantage. But you heard the explosion, the walls and the ground rattling, and you dreaded you were too late.
You fell through the double doors, nearly losing your full balance and dropping to the floor. However, you maintained your composure, and tried to scan the room. The smoke hit your eyes and they stung, tears forming in your eyes which grew redder as the seconds passed.
Fire blazed throughout most of the room. You went down on all fours and shrugged your jacket off before you rapidly fastened it around your lower face. Your trembling hand grasped the pipe you’d kept with you in case you came upon someone, and you began to crawl into a cloud of smoke, praying Peter was still alive and breathing.
You fought hard to hold in the sobs that clawed at your throat. You couldn’t break down. Not right now, when Peter needed you.
“Peter!” You called out, coughing as a trace of fumes managed to sneak into your system. You went on with your search, nevertheless, even after your hand accidentally touched a scorching piece of metal and left your flesh screaming. Keep going, you told yourself when you cried out in pain, shaking yourself out of it. “Peter, it’s me! I-I’m here!”
A minute went by at most, but it seemed like an eternity. A minute and ten seconds, until you caught a glimpse of Peter’s body surrounded by flourishing flames. “Pete!” You stood up and ran to him, uncaring of your knees as you collapsed next to him. “O-Oh God…” You saw his burnt suit and whimpered, not knowing anymore if the tears pouring down your face were due to the smoke or the appalling despair poisoning your veins. You didn’t waste a single moment dwelling on the sight in front of you, though— right away, you grabbed him under his armpits and took in a restricted breath before you dragged him with you. You only moved him a few inches before you fell to your knees, heaving.
“Why are you so fucking heavy,” You sobbed, the terrifying realization that you might not make it out of there hitting you at full force. “N-No, you’re coming with me. We’re getting out of here, okay, baby?”
You didn’t know why you were speaking to his unconscious body. Perhaps it was the faint desire that he wasn’t gone yet, and he could somehow hear you. You could sense a coughing fit coming, but you stood back up and started hauling Peter across the floor again, this time mustering every last shred of strength your body possessed.
You had no answer to how you made it. But soon, you had gotten Peter as far away from the room as you could, and your arms gave out. You ripped his mask off, cupping his face with your dirty hands. He barely breathed. “Don’t leave me. Don’t you fucking dare. I’m gonna be so mad if you do.” You wiped your nose with your forearm and shook your hands, coughing. “Okay, okay, CPR.”
You placed the heel of your hand on his chest and put the other on top to push down hard. Push, push, push. You carried on begging him to stay with you as you did the compressions, your arms already too weak from having to carry him, but you continued pushing. Push, push, push. When you realized he still wasn’t breathing, you cursed loudly and began to blow into his mouth. You went back to doing compressions.
At the third rescue breath, he began to cough.
“Peter!” You bit back another sob as you watched consciousness slowly return to him, and when he blinked his red eyes up at you, you grabbed his face and pecked his mouth countless times, your shoulders shuddering.
Not too long after, he finally understood what was happening, and he held your shoulders, viewing you up and down. “Oh, thank God you’re okay—”
“No, thank God you’re okay—”
“I was so worried about you.”
“I was worried about you!”
“I tried getting to you as soon as I could—” He pecked you back, his voice raspy. “—but more guys just kept coming at me—”
“A bomb fucking exploded, Peter. I thought you were gone.” You were now weeping. Peter kissed you one last time before he embraced you close, against his wounds’ wishes. As you both tried to calm down, he glanced down at your hands and saw your open knuckles.
His eyes widened. “What happened to you?!” You looked down at your hands, the pain only just setting in once you became aware of your cuts.
“I had to get up here somehow,” You laughed weakly, and pointed at the abandoned pipe a few feet away from you. “I also had that. I’ve got a mean swing you’d be surprised. And a taser.” You took out the taser from your pocket wiggling it. Peter stared at you, his eyes moving back and forth between the taser and the pipe.
“That’s kinda hot.”
“Almost as much as that explosion?”
He had to give you a high five before you finally took him to the hospital.
‘YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL’ KISSES - YOU’RE JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU
A comedian’s podcast played in the background as you knelt beside Peter on your bed, using a brush to spread a skincare product evenly on his face. Peter watched you, adoring eyes inspecting you closely while you caught your lower lip in between your teeth and giggled after you heard a joke which you found too amusing.
He drew patterns on your knee with his thumb and he squinted at you with curiosity, the corner of his mouth lifting upwards. “Since when are you a fan of this skincare stuff?”
You squeezed a dab of product onto the brush before you grasped his chin gently, leaning closer to his face. “This coworker of mine, his skin is, like, so damn soft and flawless. I asked him what kind of black magic he used and he gifted me this,” You motioned to the bottle next to you, “and so I thought: ‘Well, might as well try it with my poor boyfriend who fucking sweats into a mask most of the time’. Seriously, I feel so bad for your pores—”
“Hey, my skin isn’t that bad, though. It’s beautiful.” He joked. You smiled at his comment, agreeing with your head.
“You’re right. But it doesn’t mean it can’t be better. You also deserve to sit back and relax after that job interview you had today.”
Peter frowned when he saw your excitement at the mention of the interview, self-doubt sabotaging his attempt at relaxing. “I probably didn’t get the job.” He muttered.
Your brows knitted together and you pulled the brush away from his face to run your hand through his hair. “Shut up, you totally did. You’re the smartest guy I know.” You winked at him teasingly and he rolled his eyes, although his mouth twitched nonetheless. “Okay, you’re done! Now, look— let’s see my new glorious skin.” You gestured to your dried face, patting it to make sure it was ready.
“If our skin isn’t softer than a baby’s butt, I’m gonna sue.”
You snorted at him before you started scratching the product off your jaw. You hissed as it peeled off, pulling at your skin. You attempted to go on, but your pain tolerance was a joke at the moment. “Fuck, I think this now officially gonna be my face for the rest of my life.” You groaned. Peter gently pulled your hands away from your face.
“Lemme try.”
“No!” You playfully slapped his hands off you. “You’re probably gonna rip my face off.” And so he simply stared as you resumed your torture and voiced your complaints, until you gave up once you’d managed to free half of your face.
Needless to say, you looked like an absolute clown.
In the midst of your battle against the face mask, Peter himself struggled to keep a serious face as he watched you and the product hardened, limiting the range of his expressions. You heard him laugh strangely, and you glanced up at him only to see him with his mouth half-open, his shoulders bouncing up and down with his chuckles, but he remained with a straight-face.
You quirked a brow when his laughter increased, his eyes tearing up. “What is wrong with you?”
“I-I can’t laugh.” He gasped, his face starting to twist. You began to laugh at him then, spreading the hilarity further like a virus. “N-No, don’t laugh! You’ll make laugh and I can’t laugh!” He shook his head frantically, his face mask starting to crack.
“You look like an idiot,” You wheezed, and all he could do was admire you as you cracked up and held your stomach, your beam making his chest swell.
Your appearance was ridiculous at the moment, yet you mesmerized him nevertheless.
When you noticed he’d stopped laughing, you wiped your eyes, trying to calm yourself down, and saw his small smile. “What?” You questioned him, wondering if perhaps he gasped so much he was now dizzy. His grin grew. He didn’t care about the mask anymore.
“You’re so beautiful.”
You pretended to gag, although your face heated up and your mouth curved into a smile. “Shut up, you’re so lame, God.”
“But you are!”
“Stop!”
“You’re so beautiful!” He yelled out dramatically to tease you. All of a sudden, he pulled you closer to him and grabbed your face, determined on peppering all the visible skin of your face with kisses. Your giggles were out of control as you tried squirming out of his grasp, but he continued pecking you over, and over, and over again.
“I’m gonna throw up!” You laughed, and he smooched your cheek. “You’re a loser, I swear.”
He was your loser.
HOLIDAY KISSES - BABY, I’M IN LOVE WITH YOU, AND IF YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME TOO, IT WOULD BE CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY
It’d been eight months since you started dating, and neither of you had said ‘I love you’ yet.
It’s not that there existed no love. Just like you had said the night you first kissed, the love was mutual, but— again— you preferred to show it differently other than verbally. Or at least other than being straight-forward. It was expressed loud and clear whenever Peter squeezed in time in the morning to make you breakfast, every time you both teased each other or you told him to ‘shut up’, and, of course, in the most simple and obvious way: with every single kiss you shared. But you couldn’t have cried it out louder when you told Peter you’d take care of planning the Christmas Eve celebration at F.E.A.S.T.
You knew everything about Peter. You saved a special place in your brain with every detail about him: his fears, his wishes, his regrets, his shoe size— everything. It’s a perk from knowing him since middle school, and now that you were together, you’d only uncovered the remaining information buried deep within. Therefore, after he got a new job that made him as content as working with Otto Octavius did before everything went downhill, you were aware that if you hadn’t intervened, Peter would have overloaded with stress from trying to juggle every aspect of his life plus dealing with the Christmas Eve party.
However, that meant you transferred the restlessness from him to yourself.
Two months of relentless planning, and at last, it was Christmas Eve. At the back of the room, you watched your friend’s band play a Christmas song from afar, anxiously supervising that everyone enjoyed the night. Suddenly, you felt a pair of familiar arms wrap around your waist from behind and a chin atop your head.
“Hey,” You heard Peter say and you smiled, leaning back into his embrace. “I haven’t been able to hang out with you at all during the night.”
“I know, I’m sorry. I just wanted to make sure everything was going well.” Your voice, distant and distraught, deepened Peter’s frown. He turned you around and held your face, brushing your cheek with his knuckles.
“I’m proud of you. You did a great job.”
Although his words made your chest glow, you glanced back at the performance. “Thanks. I was able to add in a few things since I convinced Harry’s dad to donate some money. I guess being his favorite out of you, Mary Jane, and I helped after all, huh?”
“Well, you can relax now,” He rubbed your shoulders, and you just then realized how tense they were. “The night’s almost over.” Peter reassured you and you sighed, closing your heavy eyes.
“Anything could happen, though.” You forced out a laugh, worry forming a crease in between your eyebrows. “What if something catches on fire? Actually, did you know that people can randomly combust? There’s this one case—”
“Y/N.” For once, he was the one stopping you from rambling.
“There’s still five songs left of the set.” You pouted at him, trying to convince him to let you off the hook, but he simply stared at you, concerned.
“I talked to Miles, he’s going to take your place while you take a break.”
“I don’t need a break, I just have to watch—”
“Remember the night when we first kissed, and you told me that I needed to stop overworking myself?” He recalled, raising his brows. You pressed your lips together, recognizing how hypocritical you appeared at the moment.
“This is different, though. I need this to be perfect.” You mumbled. Peter’s brows drew together in confusion.
“Why?”
“Because of May!” You said, raising your voice a little. The floor now seemed more interesting than Peter or your surroundings. “She deserves it. She really cared about F.E.A.S.T., so I know how important this is for you, too.” You admitted, all of a sudden quiet.
The corners of his mouth turned downwards. He grabbed your chin and kissed your forehead before his soft gaze interlocked with yours. “Y/N, I bet she’d be so proud right now that she wouldn’t shut up about it, like, ever.” You both laughed, but you smiled weakly, hugging him strongly. “And spending time with you is really important for me, too.” He whispered.
Peter took in a sharp breath and dug his hand into his pocket. “I know it’s Christmas Eve, but I wanted to give you one present today.”
You tilted your head, your heart falling as remembrance dawned upon you. “But I left my gifts back home.”
“It’s alright, I-I just…” He took out a tiny box and your eyes widened in panic. “Before you freak out, it’s not… it’s not what you think.” He chuckled nervously and opened it, revealing a silver band ring.
You covered your mouth with your fist while your other hand grasped the ring carefully, inspecting the diamond cut running through the middle. “Pete… it’s so pretty, oh my God. I can’t even imagine how much you spent on it.” You said, guilt etched onto your face.
Peter tried to shrug nonchalantly, but he had to admit the expense stung a bit. “Don’t think about the price tag,” He joked, and then pointed down at the ring. “Look inside it, though.”
You followed his orders and spotted something engraved inside. You lifted it closer to your face to read it properly, squinting your eyes, and once you did, you looked up at Peter’s nervous face with a grin growing on yours. “You… love me?”
It was about damn time.
“Y-You… you like it?” He asked rapidly, his own heart mirroring the speed of his words.
In the blink of an eye, you met his lips with a deep kiss, unable to stop yourself from smiling into it. “You’re so fucking dramatic, you could’ve just told me but you had to buy a whole ass ring to tell me you loved me.” You nudged him playfully.
“I wanted to be cute!”
“You’re automatically cute, you don’t even have to try.” Peter proved your point as the color of cotton candy painted his cheeks. “But I love it. And I love you, God, I love you so much, Peter, you have no clue.”
He did. And he loved you back just as much.

Chapter 5 - Hannah
Hannah wormed her way out from underneath Nurse Becky’s sleeping form and crawled over to Ethan. He looked bad. He looked hurt, like he looked when he came to their trailer sometimes at night, telling Lexie it had been “bad at home.”
He needed some help, but the nurse lady got stabbed by the needle too.
Nurses weren’t supposed to miss. Every time Hannah got a shot at the doctor, the nurse had hit her arms just fine. It was scary, but it was quick, and Lexie said that they were to make her feel better.
Hannah shook his shoulder to try and wake him up. “Ethan? Gotta go.” He didn’t move. He didn’t open his eyes. This was bad. She shook harder. “Ethan? Wake up! Gotta get out!”
Maybe she should run. Find someplace to hide again. It’s what Ethan would want her to do.
Last time she left, he had died.
Hannah’s fingers shook as she pulled Ethan’s head into her lap. She bent over him and buried her face in his chest.
“Can’t leave again,” she whispered into Ethan’s chest. “Webby. What do I do?”
The hat, Hannah. Use the hat, Webby whispered in her head.
Ethan’s hat. The magic hat given to him by the great warrior. Maybe if she gave it to him, it would wake him up. She didn’t want to take it off, though. All this time, she felt like it had been keeping her safe. Maybe it had kept her safe from the nurse.
Hannah took the hat off her head, and played with it a minute. What were its powers? It was definitely magic. She could tell. But could it really heal Ethan?
“The hat, the hat,” Hannah muttered. “What does the hat do. What does it do? Will it save us?”
No answer from Webby. Maybe she didn’t even know. Hannah had to do it.
She started to put Ethan’s hat on his head, when someone pulled on her hair, hard.
She yelped. It hurt. Ethan’s hat was still clutched in her fingers. She jammed it back on her head and tried to squirm away from the people holding on to her, but she couldn’t.
“This is her,” said a man’s voice behind her. “The little girl with the backpack.”
The man knelt down next to her, still holding her braid. Hannah recognized him. It was the guard from the Cineplex, the one who had taken them out after Ethan didn’t have enough money to get them tickets.
The man looked down at Ethan, who wasn’t moving, his head still cradled in Hannah’s lap.
“No. Bad blood,” Hannah said. She wished Ethan would wake up soon. “Leave!”
The man surveyed Ethan. He took in Ethan’s bruises. The red stain on his shirt.
“Her protector!” His friend, who now crouched on Hannah’s other side, announced. Hannah shook her head violently.
He looked kind of funny. He had a wrinkled suit and a tie around his head. Hannah would have laughed, but she was too scared. She recognized him, too, now. One of the men that attacked her and Ethan outside Toy Zone. He was bad.
“Then he’s a heretic, no doubt!” The guard declared. “We’ll bring him with us.”
“And her?” The tie man said, indicating the nurse. “She’s gotta be a heretic too.”
“We shall bring her as well!” A third man’s voice said. He swaggered into the food court. Hannah recognized him too. He had a sweatshirt and a hat. He looked strong. He had stabbed Ethan with a knife back at the Cineplex.
“I thought you could use some help,” the third man said. “The prophet will reward us greatly!”
With that, he picked up Ethan’s body and tossed it over his shoulder. The guard grabbed Becky, and the man with the wrinkled suit and tie around his head pulled Hannah up by her braids and held onto her wrist tightly.
Hannah felt like crying, but she wasn’t going to cry. She wouldn’t let them see her. Not now. Not today. She would be brave.
Ethan had told her she was brave once. Hannah thought about that as the bad men pulled her out of the food court. The thought made her stronger.
The story went like this: Ethan was over one night, at the trailer. Their mom wasn’t there and Hannah couldn’t sleep. She kept tossing and turning in bed. Webby was whispering to her: bad blood. Two doors not one. Black and white. Hannah hadn’t known what it meant and she was scared, so she had called Lexie and Ethan into her bedroom. Ethan had asked if she had nightmares and she had nodded, looking down at the pink bedspread.
“I’ll tell you what,” Ethan has said. “How about I tell you a story to scare the nightmares away, huh?”
Lexie had scolded him, saying Hannah needed to get to bed.
“No, I wanna hear a story!”
“Ugh, Fine. One,” Lexie had said with a smile that she tried to hide. “I’ll be in the kitchen if you need anything.”
“Alright, Banana Split,” Ethan said once she was gone. “I’m gonna tell you a story about a superhero, okay? And her name is Hannah.”
So Ethan told her the story of SuperHannah, a little girl with magic powers, who talked to a spider in outer space and used her powers to save the world. She fought off bad guys and monsters and no nightmares could touch her. Hannah had felt brave when he said that, and nothing had plagued her at all that night.
So that’s what Hannah thought about with all her mind as they pulled her through the mall towards Toy Zone. It made her brave, and she had to be brave, and then tell Ethan about it when he woke up, and then Lex when they found her.
She was SuperHannah. Bad guys like this couldn’t stop her.
The bad men pulled her across the threshold into Toy Zone and then stopped. Hannah ran into them and earned a sharp tug on her braid. It made her yelp in pain and surprise.
She saw the man with the hat dump Ethan on the floor. He still wasn’t moving. He still looked bad.
Suddenly Hannah didn’t feel so brave anymore.
Be brave, Hannah. Webby said in her head. Ethan is going to need you to be brave. Think about SuperHannah. Help is coming. You just need to wait.
So Hannah tried to feel brave, even though it was hard. There were people taller and stronger than her on all sides of her, and they all stared at her. They looked hungry and crazy, the way that Mr. Houston and the nurse had looked back at McDonald’s.
But she was SuperHannah.
“I’m SuperHannah,” she whispered. “I’m SuperHannah, I’m SuperHannah.”
“Shut up, little girl,” said a new voice, one far above her. A woman’s voice that seemed sort of familiar.
“Yes, Gerald,” The woman’s voice said. Hannah presumed she was talking on the phone. “I’m about to get the doll.”
Hannah looked up above her and gasped. All thoughts of SuperHannah disappeared, because there, on the second floor of Toy Zone, was the one person Hannah hoped to hide from.
There, on the second floor, leering down at Hannah, was the woman in the black cape.

OMG I JUST THOUGHT OF AN AWESOME SPIDER-MAN IMAGINE!!!!💕 So, imagine Zendaya'sMJ is secretly the black cat, and Peter and the reader are together - And MJ/black cat is jealous and one day she kidnaps the reader and hurts her a lot physically and mentally because the reader isn't very tough she's more of a defenceless softie, and Spider-Man has to come save her. Plot twist: MJ is jel bc she loves the reader and hurts her because she loves Peter and hurt MJ by doing that!!!🔥🔥😲😲😲
aWW THIS IS SO WHOLESOMEEE. Disclaimer: this is gonna be long so fasten your seatbelts
It was an average studying night for you in New York. Your bedroom window was open, allowing the fresh air in but also distracting you from the twelve page report you had written so far. A yawn escaped your lips as you stood up and stretched, back clicking in the process before you made your way over to the window ledge. The evening had seemed to be quiet - discarding the honking cards beneath your apartment complex.
You pushed one leg over the windowsill and climbed onto the emergency exit stairs where you would usually sit, admiring the sunset while also waiting for Peter to return home from his missions.
Around ten minutes had passed and eventually Spidey turned up with the swing of his web. You watched in the distanced as he yelped, his voice echoing through the busy streets filled with taxis and cars. He hopped onto the balcony with a grunt and peeled off his mask, revealing a large grin.
“You’re back early.” You smiled up at him before standing up. He ran a gloved finger through his hair and shook his head.
“I didn’t have much to do today so I thought I’d head back home to see my girl.” He leaned down slightly and kissed your nose and your lips softly, your hands cupping his cheeks.
“Wanna come inside? I made some spaghetti for dinner.” You said as you climbed back into your shared bedroom. “There’s not a lot in the fridge so I had to make do with what I had in the pantry.” You shrugged.
“Well, no matter what you make it tastes great.” Peter called from the bedroom.
He returned to you but now he was in a white t-shirt and grey joggers. The pair of you sat at the table, smiling and admiring one another.
By the time dinner had finished, you watched a movie and chilled out for a few hours, you were both practically exhausted. You fell asleep almost instantly, wrapped in Peter’s arms.
However, your peaceful slumber was interrupted abruptly by a random burst of insomnia. Your eyes fluttered open and after that, there was no way for you to fall asleep again. Due to the room being hot, you decided to go outside and get some fresh air in your usual spot. Once again the city was quieter like you had observed earlier.
However, this silence was broken from the sound of metal clinging and footsteps. Your heart stopped for a second, adrenaline kicking in as you tried to remain quiet. The clanging became louder and louder as the sound came closer to you until there was a shadow climbing over the railings gracefully. The moonlight just about barely revealed their face. Her face.
It was a women dressed in a black latex suit and mask, covering her upper facial features. Her hair was white, her skin dark, making the colours contrast beautifully.
“Who are you?” You whispered, afraid to wake Peter from his deep sleep.
The woman’s lips curled into a smirk and she leapt forward, slowly sliding the window down so it was shut. “I’m Black Cat, but my identity? You don’t need to know that, love.” She purred as she stroked your trembling face. “Such a soft complexion. Just as I thought it would be.”
Your eyes widened slightly, your lips slowly becoming dry.
She turned around for a second, bending over to pick something up before turning back around to face you. There was something in her hand but you couldn’t tell what it was.
“I’m sorry to do this to you, but I want you all for myself and this is the only way how I can get you.” Black Cat struck you, your vision instantly going blurry.
-------
Your eyes fluttered open again but this time you were tied up on a chair with your hands bounded behind your back. “Hello?” Your voice barely called out in the dim lighting. There was a flickering lightbulb above your head, distracting you for a second. In the corner of the room was shuffling and out came the Black Cat with a grin on her face.
“I’m glad to see you’re awake.” She held a glass of water in her hand as she approached you. You wanted to decline and spit in her face, but you were severely dehydrated so you could do nothing but allow her to pour the water into your mouth. The liquid trickled down your chin slightly as you gulped and she chuckled, pulling the glass away and wiping away the water with her thumb, chuckling.
“Let me fucking go already.” You said with all your might.
She grabbed your hair and pulled your head backwards so you were looking directly up at the ceiling.
“That’s not the way to talk to me, is it now, pet?”
“Get the fuck off me, asshole.”
She struck you with the back of her hand before tracing your jawline with her sharp claw. “You’d look so pretty dressed up for me in dresses and shoes.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I want you for myself, don’t you understand that?” She yelled, walking a couple metres away from you. “Peter has you but I-I...”
You furrowed your brows and let out a gasp of air that you didn’t realise you were holding.
“He took you away from me before I could make you mine. The only way I could think of was to steal you and hold you captive here for the rest of your fucking life.”
A window shattered before footsteps ran in. Your head jerked up towards that direction and you saw your beloved masked boyfriend, dusting his shoulders off.
“P-Spiderman!” You grinned, wriggling in your chair.
“What the hell are you doing here? How did you even find us?”
“Just hand her over, Cat, then nobody will get hurt.” He said sternly.
Your heart dropped.
“You know,” she sniffed as she wiped a tear that rolled down her cheek “you broke my fucking heart when you chose him over me.” She turned towards you with anger in her eyes “I’ve seen him hold onto you while you swung through New York. You don’t understand the love I’ve had for you for the past five years.”
“Five years?” You exclaimed “I’m sorry, Miss uh... Black Cat... but I’m not interested. I don’t even know who you are.” You looked at her with furrowed brows and a frown, hoping that if you were sympathetic towards her she’d let you go.
Black Cat removed her mask slowly, tossing it onto your lap. You looked down and examined it for a second before looking up again and noticing her hair was now brown. Her face was familiar.
“MJ?” You and Peter both exclaimed.
She blinked a couple times and ran her fingers through her hair. Peter stood his ground, watching intently before looking between you and her. He blasted a web at her hands and then rushed over to you, untying the knot she made.
A few seconds had passed, however, and MJ managed to pull herself free from the webs.
“What the-” Peter started.
She pounced and jumped on top of him, grabbing onto his neck. It was a battle now between the both of them. Using all your strength, you shoved yourself into her and pushing her off of Peter. He let out a gasp of air before panicking at the sight of you on top of MJ and punching her.
“Leave me alone!” You cried out.
“You hurt me, Y/N. You could have had me, but instead you chose Peter.” You stopped assaulting her, climbing off of her stomach and stumbling back to your boyfriend who shot her arms and legs with his web fluid.
“Let’s get out of here before she breaks out of it again.” Peter mumbled as he held you close.

promise {m.m}
pairings: miles morales x reader
warnings: language, mentions of violence, slight angst
notes: i wrote some more miles bc that’s my boy. i might make a part two for this if y’all like it :)
it was raining the night i had decided to walk home from the skate park, and it seemed to be the icing on the cake of a bad day. what should’ve been a spectacular, amazing friday turned out to be a total bust.
to start off, i slept through my alarm and missed the bus, making me late for the third time this week. and you know what that got me? saturday school. then, my friends told me i wasn’t “working out” for them anymore, and when i tried to stop them from walking away i managed to trip over my shoelaces and stumble right into the trash can. i smelled like garbage for the rest of the day. and, of course, i showed up to the skate park to meet up with my crush only to see him making out with tiffany ambers. and now? i’m walking in the rain, shivering and drenched head to toe with no jacket. just great.
anyway, i was walking home, just minding my own business when out of nowhere i’m being catcalled by some random creep. of course, i try to ignore it, but that seems to make it worse, and in a matter of moments i’m being yanked back by the hair and choked out. god, it really wasn’t my day.
i let out a choked yelp as i began to thrash and struggle in the stranger’s lethal grip, already feeling my body begin to tingle and my head grow light. why is this guy so strong?! seconds seemed like agonizingly long minutes as my lungs began to close in his grip. this was it, i was sure of it. but as my body began to shut down, the last thing i saw was a blur of black and red. then everything went dark.
~~~~
“c’mon, please wake up,” a distant voice echoed, and my eyes slowly began to open as a warm pair of lips met my own before puffing in a breath of air into my lungs. with a gasp, a choke, and a sputter, i sat myself up and violently began to cough. my vision was warbled and my chest was extremely tight, but i was... alive?
“whoa, hey, hey, you’re alright,” a voice coaxed, rubbing my back in soothing circles and allowing me to catch my breath. “i’ve got ya, you’re alright.”
“w-what...” i wheezed, swallowing thickly and cringing at the pain it brought me.
“he really got you good, huh?” the voice said sympathetically, and the reminder was enough to cause me to scramble to my feet. my legs, too weak to carry my weight, buckled underneath me and i fell forward, only to be caught in the arms of a stranger.
“hey, it’s okay, he’s gone. i’m a good guy, i promise,” he insisted, holding my arms tightly in order to keep me upright. and as i finally managed to calm down enough to look up at him...
“spider-man?” i gasped quietly, and the mask raised just above his nose allowed a soft smile to come from his lips.
“the one and only. but are you okay? i was scared you had died on me for a second there, you weren’t breathing and i...” he paused, nervously scratching the back of his neck. “well i tried to give you cpr.”
it was quiet for a moment, my hand on his chest and the other gripping his arm tightly. before i even knew what i was doing, my arms were wrapped tightly around his neck and my face buried in his chest as i began to cry. cry over the stress of school, the anxiety that came with a social life, and the fact that i could have died had it not been for this new spider-man.
“hey, hey, it’s- it’s okay,” he stuttered out, unsure of what to do. naturally, though, his arm wound it’s way around my waist and his hand found its way to my hair as it began to gently to stroke it. “nothing’s gonna happen to you, anymore.”
in my state of crying, i could only hold onto him tighter and whimper out a, “promise?”
too busy was i to notice the way he stared down at me. he held me tighter.
“promise.”
what if Tony is the one with the micropenis, but his partners never have complained bc he's *extremely* good at pleasuring them in other ways? enter sizequeen Peter who tries to shame him for it, only for Tony to build a huge dick extension on his iron man suit and fuck him in that.
So, I went a little overboard with this? I’ve never written the suit kink thing and I got really into it. Thanks for this brilliant idea.
Featuring: Suit kink, size shaming, size kink, probably other kinks. You can decide how old Peter is.Tony knew exactly what he was working with and he was a confident man. Shame wasn’t even in his vocabulary when it came to romps in the bedroom. In all of his adventures he never hand a single complaint as his mouth and hands were so very talented. Then along came Peter.
“You expect me to put that in me? Tony, that’s not gonna work. It’s too little,” Peter complained, tugging his boxers back up, his erection still causing a tent in them. “What am I supposed to do with it. I need to be filled, Tony. You don’t understand.” Peter stood up from the bed and began to look for his clothes.
“I’m sorry you feel that way, Pete. Let me show you how good I am with my mouth. Get back over here.”
Peter couldn’t say no to that offer and whether the kid would admit it or not.
Tony wanted Peter in more than a sexual way. He wanted his smile, his laugh, his ass, all of him, so he had to devise a way to keep him. Tony was nothing if not creative and a genius, so after an intense brainstorming session he came up with his best idea yet, his magnum opus - a huge penis extension to the Iron Man suit that would vibrate which would stimulate both of them. He designed the attachment to be as thick as his forearm and and just as long. Let Peter tell him that wasn’t big enough now.
A couple days later, Peter called Tony at around midnight. It was obviously a booty call.
“Can I come over, Tony? I miss that mouth of yours,” Peter said, voice husky. It was pretty sexy, Tony had to admit it.
“Sure thing, sweetheart. Come by the lab, I have a surprise for you.”
Peter arrived a half hour later, sauntering into the lab in his spider suit, mask off. “Hi Tony. Where’s my surprise?” he asked, tossing his mask on the table and hitting the button on his suit so he could strip out of it. Tony licked his lips when he saw Peter wasn’t wearing any boxers. It was a moment later that Peter looked around, clearly confused. “Tony?”
The younger man yelped as he saw one of the suits moved, clearly shaken as he hadn’t been on the alert for any dangers. Tony retracted the faceplate, grinning at Peter as he walked up to him. “Hey there, sweetness. How’re you?”
“Um…I’m fine? Where’s the surprise?” Peter asked again, clearing his throat as he leaned against a table to try to play it cool.
Without a word, Tony had the suit morph to display the huge dildo. “I got this for you, since you were so whiny the other night. You like?”
Peter was clearly in awe, walking up to Tony and placing his hand tentatively on the contraption, petting it. The Iron Cock (Tony thought it was funny…) was warm to the touch and turgid like a real cock would be. He was rather impressed with his work and Peter was, too.
“Oh god, it’s so big. I want it. I love it. In…In the suit?” Peter asked, biting his lip as he looked Tony up and down. There was no denying he was into the idea of it.
“Naturally. How about you bend over and I can get you ready?”
He has seen Peter in action but he never saw him move that fast, He chuckled and rubbed the hand of the suit over Peter’s back, soothing him before grabbing a handful of his ass. “I love your ass, Pete. It’s so perfect and delicious. I wanna taste it so bad but you don’t wanna be patient, huh?” Tony teased, spreading Peter’s cheeks using his forefinger and thumb to expose his hole. “You’re so cute and pink here. I’m gonna fill you up now.”
Peter whined as the one of Tony’s fingers shot out some lube onto his hole and smeared it around before pushing inside. The younger man wiggled his hips before pressing back against the finger inside him. “More,” came the demand and Tony did as he was told.
It continued like this for several minutes, Tony working the suit’s fingers in and out of Peter until his hole was all puffy and loose enough to fit such a big cock. “You ready, babe?” Tony asked, removing his fingers to pet at Peter’s hole.
Peter turned to look over his shoulder, giving a nod. Well, Tony didn’t feel the need to ask a second time. He used the same finger to lube the Iron Cock up and lined it up to Peter before beginning to press inside. They both moaned at the way Peter’s hole began to stretch as Tony pushed in, the younger man whining as the head finally popped in.
“Oh my god…It’s so big. Keep going, fill me up!” he demanded, rolling his hips backwards to take more of the toy’s girth. Tony had to oblige. He pushed in all the was until the base of the suit was against Peter’s cheeks. “Fuck me. Hard. Now.”
“You sure? It’s pretty big and - “
“I said fuck me. Do it or I’ll find someone else who will.” Empty threat but a threat nonetheless.
Tony grabbed Peter by the chest, hauling him up to make his back arch and his body shift. Then he began to fuck Peter senseless with hard and fast thrusts. A litany of “Ah” and “Please” came from Peter’s lips and Tony saw the younger man starting to drool.
“Take it, Peter. Take it,” Tony ordered, turning the vibrating feature on. Peter screamed at that and Tony kept thrusting, knowing his shaft was rubbing against Peter’s prostate and the vibrations made it all the more intense.
“Oh my god! Holy fuck, yes!” Peter cried out, coming untouched all over the table.
However, Tony kept thrusting, moaning at the way the vibrations felt against his cock. He kept thrust over and over, even when Peter started crying from stimulation, before finally coming. Tony turned the vibration feature off and slowly pulled out, rubbing at Peter’s wrecked hole.
“Who’s tiny now?”
Ah anonny, I always seem to write so much with these singular person request so I hope that’s alright! I have so many spiders coming into my apartment through my windows and I now wish I could have Zen come to my rescue! This one was a lot of fun to write so I hope that you enjoy!! ^^
The flashing spotlight shown brightly on Zen’s perfect body, his voice singing a tune that could only be described as pure harmonious joy
You stood next to Zen, pressing yourself into his arm as you complimented his stellar performance, asking if you could treat him in his private room
He licked his lips and just as Zen was about to say yes, a loud ringing snapped him back to reality
Zen let out a yelp as he looked around the room, realizing that he was dreaming
He groaned as he heard his phone blaring his ringtone, which is a song that he’s personally singing swiping the screen to see that it was 3:07 am and that you were calling him
Even though he would do absolutely anything for you, calling him in the middle of the night was pushing it but nevertheless Zen answered the call and before he could even greet you, you yelled to him
“ZENINEEDYOURHELPRIGHTNOW!” You screamed as Zen winced, pulling his phone away from his ear to try and stop the ringing that had started
The panic in your voice made Zen go tense as he started rubbing his sleepy eyes with his one hand and calmly asking “Slow down MC, what’s going on?”
“There’s no time to explain Zen, it’s in the apartment!” You exclaimed to a still very sleepy and confused Zen
“Wait a minute, what exactly is in your apartment? Is someone there MC?! Are you alright?!” Panic and adrenaline started to flow within Zen as he shot out of bed
“No no no not someone but something Zen!” You exasperated, the more you talked the more out of breath you sounded
Zen rubbed his temple with his free hand as he took a deep breath to calm himself down, saying to you “Okay MC tell me exactly what’s going on.”
“I woke up a little bit ago to get some water and when I walked into the kitchen, there was a huge spider there. I’m terrified of spiders so I couldn’t stay there and I’m currently walking around outside. Please help me Zen.” You explained as you bit your bottom lip, shuddering at the horrid memory
Zen was already pulling on a jacket and wrapping his hair up into his signature ponytail as he grabbed his keys to motorcycle
“Tell me exactly where you are MC. Make sure to stay by someplace where there’s a street lamp and keep your phone on. We’ll keep this call going and if anything happens, scream. I’ll be there as soon as I can.” Zen stated determinedly as he hopped on his vehicle
Luckily, you were relatively close to Zen’s home and he got to you within ten minutes
Zen breathed a huge sigh of relief when he saw you shaken up but unharmed as he peeled his jacket off and put it on you
You pressed yourself close against Zen’s back as he rode the two of you back to his home, feeling your anxiety start to vanish with his presence
He sat you down on his couch and poured you some tea as you curled up into his strong chest, still slightly shivering from the cold air
“Listen MC, we can wait until you warm up and then I can take you back to your place. Don’t worry your knight in shining armor will slay that villainous spider!” Zen dramatically said with a dazzling smile
But you clung onto Zen’s arm and shook your head rapidly from side to side and with tears threatening to spill as you said “B-but what if you kill that spider and there’s more! I don’t want to leave, can’t I stay here and sleep with you for tonight and tomorrow we can go kill that spider? Please Zenny?”
Zen saw genuine worry in your eyes as your buried your face in his chest, sighing because he knew he could never say no to you
“Alright MC you win, you can stay here for the night. We’ll wake up early tomorrow to kill the spider okay?” Zen said with a smile and you nodded in agreement
The next day your knight managed to kill the spider and bought some bug repellent to place near the windows
You gave Zen a hug as you expressed your gratitude to him saying “You’re the best Zen, thank you so much for helping me!” And sealed those words with a sweet kiss
Zen smiled bashfully and gave you a quick kiss back, saying “It was nothing MC, let me know if you ever need help again.“
As Zen was about to exit, you grabbed onto his hand looking shyly at him telling him "Um, what if more spiders come inside? Maybe you should stay with me, you know, to help protect me from the spiders!”
From that day on, you and Zen lived together as you payed Zen for his spider-killing services in exchange for kisses
