Hi. I'm cyberbullying a long dead poet because of his shitty fanfic. Enjoy. I'd love it if you joined me.

(Before you get mad at me, yes, I know Eugammon of Cyrene is an important figure and all that. I'm sick with some sort of flu. Let me cyberbully an ancient dead fanfic writer in peace.)

Wouldn't you like a taste of the power?
I just picture Hermes having a whole dance routine while performing Wouldn't You Like in the Epic Saga, so I drew my version of Hermes mid singing and Odysseus reaching for the Holy Moly herb.
Click for quality.
Tumblr media
Before anyone comes at me for giving Odysseus armour that wouldn't exist in the era: I can do what I want. Also I referenced Athena's chest plate, so . . .
For Hermes instead of drawing the Caduceus, I drew the two snakes as gold jewelry coiled around his arm, and his earring is technically the rest of the staff with the wings. For some reason I drew Hermes completely different from my idea of him, so I might draw that later too.
I drew the holy moly based on the best reference of the proposed real world flower, Snowdrop (from Wikipedia, I cringe to cite it, but what can I say, am lazy) and chose to make the "sap" gold (I believe it is supposedly black from the blood though) dripping from the base and pouring from the flowers.

I'm currently reading a book that isn't a traditional retelling, but does have the story of orpheus and eurydice as an ongoing throughline in the book and
A. this book is making me chew tinfoil because it is SO good but also B. It's made me realize that one of my main issues with many retellings on the market right now is that so many myths are fundamentally stories about grief, and so many retellings are simply not interested in the grief

A list of things in Greek mythology that I think are funny:
Bellerophon killing one (☝️) lion and deciding he was a god
Demeter just kinda putting a baby in a fire nightly to try and make him immortal
Niobe going “I’m a better mom than Artemis and Apollo’s mom because I have 18 kids” and the gods going “no you don’t” and killing her kids (stop challenging gods people did we learn nothing from Arachne and Psyche and Marsyas)
The idea that natural disasters were just the gods having a bad day (lowkey the way people explained natural phenomena back then without all the modern day science we have right now is actually pretty cool but also Poseidon is pissy so he leveled my fuckijg town-)
That one guy who was like ‘I’m a god’ and Zeus responded by just turning him into an eagle
Apollo having just fatal levels of negative rizz
Midas being given donkeys ears because his music taste was ass
Athena throwing away the pan pipes because they made her look weird
Medusa getting her head cut off and just like a fucking flying horse popped out
That one guy who came home from the Trojan war only to immediately get killed by his wife and her side piece
The way Dionysus just had a group of fangirls following him around more often than not
The way my study packet called Procrustes a “scoundrel” in one of the questions
The fact that the Milky Way is supposedly just Hera’s breast milk that was supposed to feed Heracles (which is not her child mind you)
Anyways that’s it

need more cannibalism in art & stories i won’t lie…
the meaning of it so fascinating too like in “the song of achilles” after patroclus’ death, achilles chokes out to hector, “there are no bargains between lions and men. i will kill you and eat you raw.” and to be so inundated w immeasurable grief & anger that he would do something like cannibalism (something that was only reserved for divine gods) just goes to show how far his love & devotion goes for his beloved & how grief will make someone do heinous things/things they never considered doing before.

I can't wait to do all the silly plots i have for the Demigods get social media fic
Like I still have to do:
Harley doxxes Clarisse's mom and gets: demigod famous, his account banned, Leo fired from the Demitok team and accidentally starts a demigod riot against Nyssa
the Drew, Lacy and Connor sims 4 saga (this one is based off my own greek myth save)
the Grover and Percy ≠ Dionysus x Ampelos post
Percy x Hermes (the Hercules movie version, look at the design and guess why)
The great school escape and Camp Badboys (and girls and theys), coined by Leo
Litterally when the gods show up
When Chiron and the Romans finally get clued in and get an account
and user Concerned citizen as a whole
litterally the Hamilton incident is barely scratching the surface here

Nerites with a sailfish (fastest fish in the world, who's present in the Meditarrean sea) tail...
I have seen people interpreting Nerites being adept at chariot racing in order to keep UP with Poseidon; which I like the idea of; but to me the translations I have seen say he kept up by HIMSELF (and that could have been the reason Helios cursed him).
Tumblr media
It's also way more fun to imagine. Poseidon being utterly gobsmacked and utterly delighted Nerites can keep up with his horses... *Sigh* I love Nerites story so much. I love how everybody looked at it and went "Yeah the two versions happened one after the other" + bonus Nerites get to be turned back because we want a happy ending. Fascinating how they have nothing in common other than the curse...
Tumblr media
This part is also captivating to me because first. "Most beautiful of men and gods" I know plenty of myths go ahead and beyond in describing characters beauty but this one in particular strikes me. Yes he was the most beautiful out of EVERYONE. Golden apple 2 electric boogaloo but it's over whose god's boyfriend is the hottest instead (but don't tell Ganymede). Plus "celebrated in mariners' tales"... I choose to interpret it as Nerites being a benevolent deity towards sailors and such. I'm not a historian or anything, but if I understood that right, it's really nice to see beliefs of the "common" people back then survived a bit as well, since they didn't leave written things behind them. Just beautiful story all around

I hate when I see people hating on the gods because of PJO, it makes me so sad and angry
Also. The amount of people calling the female gods "a bitch" is insufferable. First of all, lazy insult, second of all, these characters are fucking ancient. They have years of history in them. You can't just think of their character as "a bitch". NOT EVEN THE BITCH, JUST A BITCH — AS IN, AN INSULT
#see i'm okay w ppl insulting their favs as a joke#i do it too#but (n it might just be me loving these characters) watching ppl insult them bc they hate them is#it's just so weird to me#like#i'm not explaining myself well-#calling the character out on all the shit they've done (the gods have done some very fucked up stuff) is okay#i love to do that. criticizing my favorite stuff is one of my favorite hobbies#the problem is when ppl treat their character like absolute garbage without knowing anything about them#“athena is a bitch who supports SA 👿👿” they say when SHE IS NOT???#HER CURSING MEDUSA BC SHE WAS SAd IS ONLY ONE VERSION OF THE MYTH#and (as far as i'm aware) it's the roman version of the myth too! so not even the og#also the greeks have some very bad history w SA. bc of the way they treated women#like have you ever actually read about the greek gods? they SA people all the time#and that's what i like to see ppl shit on them for#idk if i said that right#i like to see people shitting on them for that while still knowing that they're very deep characters#w interesting stories that were made in a time where that kind of stuff was normalized#this also goes for the “u can't like the greek gods bc they've SAd women!” ppl#i don't like them as PEOPLE buddy#i like them as characters bc they are fictional and interesting and fucking ANCIENT#did i said fictional already?#anyway. it is 2024 cut it out w the greek god hate#greek mythology#Greek gods#the olympians#pjo#percy jackon and the olympians#rrverse#avis' post
