𝐉𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐘 | 𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐂𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐘
summary: a rare spur of jealousy leads to misplaced anger against your boyfriend
warnings: slight angst, kissing, NOT proofread soz
a/n: he is doing so good in the tournament rn
word count: 1.3k
Being Rutgers girlfriend doesn’t demand much. He likes kisses, taking me on dates, and just simply being in each other's presence. However, being Rutgers girlfriend also means I double as a hockey girlfriend. This means attending all the games, being there so that he can vent about the games and being a motivational speaker. I truly didn’t mind it though. Getting to see him live out his dreams made it all worthwhile.
Tonight was another game, this one against Ohio State. Normally I attend the games alone and sit in a section separate from the student section. However my friends, after seeing a video from the UMich hockey account that showed Mark fighting another player, wanted to come and see a game. This also meant they wanted to sit in the student section so they could “be in the thick of it”.
We joined the sea of students, also dressed in blue and yellow. Some people around us had signs, most of them chirping the opposing team, Ohio State. When the boys skated out, the student section roared. People banged on the glass, pumping up the others while they did their warmups. The noise only slightly diminished as the game started, with chants starting every few seconds. By the end of the 2nd period, it was 2-0 for Michigan. The student section was slightly less rowdy, as people went to the concession stands.
“Okay, but number two was the best, right?”
The mention of my boyfriends' number made my ears perk up. I look at the three girls sitting in front of us who are the only possible owners of the voice.
“His last name was McGroarty, go look on Instagram.” One of the girls says.
I look at her phone, see her type in Rutger’s last name, and click on his profile. “He is so cute.” She squeals.
“I don’t see a girlfriend.” Another girl says.
With Rutger's newfound fame from being drafted by Winnipeg, to UMich and the World Juniors, we thought it best to keep our relationship just between close friends and family for the time being. It was good, for the most part, except when girls would assume he was single just because he had no posts about his girlfriend.
“You know, I heard they go to Milo’s frat’s parties a bunch.” One of the girls says. “You could try and find him at the party Friday?”
There’s a twinge in my chest and my ears heat up. Who are these girls to think that they can just get with my boyfriend?
I thankfully didn’t have to endure much of their conversation any longer as the boys skated out onto the ice to begin the third period. They finished the game, winning 3-1 with Rutger securing the win with an empty netter.
We get up, walking out of the stands to where Rutger and the rest of the team will exit the building from. We’re about halfway there when I realize the girls from earlier are walking to the exact same place. The twinge from earlier returns and a wave of heat takes over my body. My friends and I stop a few feet away from the girls, who continue to talk about Rutger, adding in a few comments about Ethan and Mark.
The door opens, a few of the guys spilling out. You spot Rutger walking out beside Dylan. Before you can even get to him, the girls from earlier are by his side. They ask him about the game, telling him how well he played.
“Are you coming to the party on Friday? Beta Theta Phi?” One of the girls asks.
“Um, not sure. Maybe?” He tells them.
“Well, I’ll be looking for you.” She smiles, walking off with her friends.
I expect the twinge to dissipate as the girls leave, but it stays. Rutger joins my side, tossing an arm around my shoulders. “Hey girls, did you enjoy the game?” He asks my friends.
“Yes, are you kidding? We saw two guys start swinging at one another then proceeded to fall on their asses. There’s nothing better than that.” Melanie tells him.
“You ready to go?” He asks me. I nod in response, saying goodbye to my friends.
Johnny joins us, walking back to their shared dorm together. I’m noticeably quiet on the short walk home, letting Rutger and Johnny talk about their game while I try to navigate what I was feeling. I felt as if I was mad at Rutger, but couldn’t figure out why.
We get in their dorm, both boys flopping down on their respective. “I’m absolutely wiped.” Johnny sighs, pulling out his phone.
Rutger has his arms open, waiting for me to climb in as I normally do. When Rutger notices my hesitation, he props himself up on his elbows and looks at me with a confused look on his face.
“I think I’m probably going to sleep at mine tonight.” I tell him, stepping towards the door.
“Woah, woah. Why?” He asks, climbing out of bed and walking towards me.
“I just feel like being in my own bed tonight.” I lie straight through my teeth.
“I know you’re lying, y/n.” He says. “You always stay over after a game, plus you love to stay the night because you get to wake up in my arms.”
“Well… I just want to sleep at my place tonight.” I tell him.
Rutger's expression turns from one of confusion to one of hurt. “Babe, talk to me. What’s up?”
I glance behind Rutger's shoulder, seeing Johnny looking at us rather than at his phone. Realizing that he probably should let us talk alone, he scrambles out of his bed.
“Yeah, I’ll just… go to Luke’s or something. Maybe I’ll have a sleepover with Fants.” Johnny chuckles, pulling on some shoes quickly. He slips out the door leaving us alone.
“Can you tell me what’s up now?” Rutger asks me.
I sigh, sitting down on his desk chair. I open my mouth to speak but putting my thoughts into words seems impossible.
“I was sitting in the student section and these girls in front of me were talking about you, calling you cute and stuff, and saying how easy it would be to get with you.” I explain. “Then they came to talk to you after the game and I hated it! I don’t know why but I absolutely despised hearing them talk about you.”
I finish ranting, turning in his chair to look at him, only to see a smirk on his lips. “No way…” He says. “You’re actually jealous.”
“What? I’m not jealous.” I say, crossing my arms on my chest.
“Oh yeah, you are. You’re talking about how much other girls crushing on me is bothering you. Plus you’ve got this brooding look and your eyebrows are furrowed and you’re kind of pouting…wait.” He says, stepping towards me. “Are you trying to turn me on right now? Cause it’s working.”
“Rutger I’m serious.” I say, wiping the grin off his face.
“Sorry, sorry. But you have nothing to be jealous of. I’m all yours and no one else's.” He tells me, coming over and grabbing my hand. He pulls me up from the chair, placing his hands on my waist. “Other people are going to find me attractive and that’s something that’s gonna happen. I mean guys look at you all the time.”
“Other guys don’t look at me.” I say.
“Yeah they do, I’m pretty sure Luca had a thing for you for the first few months we were dating.” Rutger tells me, making me laugh. “Don’t tell him I told you though.”
“We’re always going to find each other being jealous of people that are attracted to the other and that’s just something we have to deal with.” He tells me. “But as long as we both know we’re committed to each other, there’s nothing to worry about.”
I give him a soft smile at his words. I lay a hand on his cheek, bringing him down to me. I softly kiss him, hoping the gesture works as a way to tell him thank you for easing my worries.
“You know,” Rutger starts as we separate. “Johnny’s sleeping… not here tonight, so we have the place to ourselves.” I laugh as he pulls me over to the bed.

Secret
Pairing : Miguel O' Hara X Reader
Genre : fluff
Summary : Miguel and you are in a secret relationship, yet sometimes he can’t help but snap when he feels slightly jealous
Request/idea by: Anon requested Miguel with a reader who has the same spider powers and fluff : )
Wordcount: 1.2k
Miguel O’Hara Masterlist
Miguel is in his lair, as he often is. Eyes set of the many holographic screens in front of him. Currently though, he's more focused on leading a mission.
He's sent out a team he's a little less familiar with. A Peter Parker (Spiderman), Flash thompson (or Agent Venom, as he likes to refer to) and Y/N L/N (Spiderwoman 2012). The only person he's familiar with is Y/N. You've got similar powers to his, the only difference being the color of your suit ( black and red). The two of you have sparred a few times before. Originally he had been afraid to hurt you, but you turned out to be a lot fiercer than expected.
Truth to be told, he likes you. A lot. And thankfully, you like him as well. However, not wanting everyone to know, you've asked to keep your relationship secret. He had agreed, thinking it would be for the best as well.
However, since he met agent Venom, he's regretted doing so. Sometimes he even regrets asking him to join the team.
you and Flash are close. Your laid back personality making it easy for everyone to talk to you. Flash is more of a no-brainer. He's more about physical strength than actually thinking of a plan. Originally Miguel had thought of him as useless, but he follows orders without question.
Currently, they're chasing after a loose Doc Ock, and are close to rounding the mission up.
" Peter, watch your left flank, you've got incoming!" Your voice sounds over Miguel's ear piece.
And right on time it seems, thanks to your warning, Peter is able to avoid a pointy tentacle.
" Woah, thanks Y/N!"
He watches as Doc Ock now goes for you. You react quickly, using your claws to cut off the tentacle that was aimed for your face.
Miguel smiles the slightest bit at your move. It was one that he had taught you during training.
" Okay, I have a plan. Y/N distract it for a good while in a circle. Peter and Flash, you web him up. After that Peter should electrocute him so you can wrap it up." Miguel instructs the team.
They all give a response of confirmation, before setting his plan in action. Unlike Miguel, you didn't work out much, and due to the less mass, you're a lot quicker, avoiding Doc Ock's aims whilst he keeps aiming for you. Peter and Flash manage to do as instructed as well. The two of them web his tentacles together in a way that doesn't directly make the man aware, until it's too late, and he tumbles down, tentacles twisted and wrapped together. DocOck grunts as he falls harshly. The three spiders swing down in front of him, proud smiles and smirks on their faces.
" You just wait, Spiderman!-" Doc Ock starts, before you web his mouth up.
You don't say anything, but hold your hands up for a high five from both your teammates. They do so easily.
" Well done team!" Peter says, smile evident in his voice.
" Okay. That's it guys, bring him in." Miguel's stoic voice sounds through once more.
-
It doesn't take long before the three of you are back at HQ, with Doc Ock between the other variants downstairs.
The three of you are in Miguel's office currently.
" Woah, did you see that Miguel? We totally nailed it!" Flash beams enthusiastically, not realizing the boss is quite aware of that already.
" Yes Flash, I kno-"
" Did you see how Y/N and I worked together? That was amazing! I knew we would be as great in the field as we are off the field."
Miguel's jaw ticks. To Peter, he probably seems annoyed by Flash. To Flash he probably just seems tired, but you know better. You know Miguel hates it when the other spider people tend to ship you with Flash. Something that happens more often because of the game nights the lot of them sometimes organize and partake in.
You raise a brow.
" It was a team effort, Flash. We couldn't have done it without Peter. And Miguel's plan is what put it all together. It really was a team effort." You point out, arms crossed over your chest.
" Yeah, but still-!"
" I've had enough of your nonsense Flash, get out." Miguel huffs.
" Awe c'mon boss, you've got to admit it-!"
" No. Now leave."
Miguel gives Flash that cold, angry look. That along with his tall posture, gives Flash a clear message; Miguel needs space.
" Oh, right then. We'll go." Flash says with a smile, turning and grabbing you by the wrist to take you with to the cafeteria.
" Leave Y/N here, I got some stuff to talk with her about. " He says, a tired tone in his voice.
He shoos Peter away as well, who gives you a pat on your shoulder as he walks out. Flash gives you a wave aswell, before sprinting off to whoever knows where.
" So, you got stuff you want to talk about?" You say with a knowing smile.
He rolls his eyes, before pushing off the table (desk?) he was leaning on and stepping of the platform. He shoots a web at you, the neon material sticking to your suit as he pulls you close with it. His hands rest on your waist, keeping you as close as he can now that the other two are out.
" God, do I hate flash." He complains.
You grin, placing your hands on his upper arms.
" I know."
" Should I fire him? I think I should." He mumbles, meant probably mostly for himself.
You laugh.
He can feel his tense posture slacking with the sound of it.
" Don't fire him. He's fun to hangout with-"
" Are you shipping yourself with him now?-"
" No! Absolutely not. He's still my friend though." You cock your head at him.
Miguel knows he's a goner when you look at him like that with those pretty eyes of yours.
" He's brainless."
" That's fine, he's not important." You point out to him.
His lips tilt into a small smirk.
" Good. Now kiss me-"
He's cut off as you place your lips on his, hands moving from his arms to spread out over his chest, his own moving from your waist to your hips. His lips move passionately with yours, fitting together like pieces of a puzzle. When you eventually pull away to breath, he tries to follow you. You giggle as he does so.
" Te amo." He whispers softly, moving a stray hair from your face.
You smile at him.
" You know I don't speak spanish, Iguel'." You pout.
He knows. For now he's too afraid to tell you exactly what it means.
[ A/N: My requests are currently empty but I still want to write more, anyone has any ideas/requests they're willing to share with me? ]

(G)I-DLE Miyeon x M & F Reader - “The Woman Of My Dreams”
One of my longest one-shots ever made with 10,700+ word count! Enjoy... reading, I guess? Hehe...
The weekend is about to end tomorrow, but that won't stop you from continuously spending all of the free time you have with whatever you want to do that would provide you entertainment or relaxation.
One of them is to play video games on his desktop computer. Currently, your cousins have offered you an invitation, which you eagerly accepted.
The longing and anticipation to interact with them, at least for today, is what compelled you to join them.
Sitting on his comfortable gaming chair, he focusedly monitored his movements on Valorant, the game that he's playing, underlying on the instincts and strategized aspect that would be handy on securing a victory for their group.
"There's the one, it's heading to B guys."
One of your male cousins spoke to the mic. You are the only one left on your squad, while the opposite still has two more left.
You traveled around on the paths that would lead you to Base B, but as you were about to arrive there, you were met by an update saying that the team had already done the most crucial part of the gameplay.
"They planted the spike now. Be careful, YN."
You slowly checked if there may be traces found that will got them obvious of guarding the spike. Having nothing, you began to formulate a plan on how you will infiltrate the base without getting killed.
You still do believe that they're inside and they're just really good at hiding.
"Damn it, I'm taking the risk now guys." You breathed deeply for a few seconds before you executed the action, invading the base with 15 seconds remaining before the rounds ends.
Looking back and forth, YN then heard footsteps right away. He/she saw the enemy hiding near the crates, and killed it with a sniper.
"Go, YN! Cmon hurry!"
You were startled when you noticed that a damage took hit by your character Phoenix after getting slightly shot on the back.
9 seconds remaining.
Holding the keys and some quick shifts of the mouse, you rotated Phoenix quickly and aimed it at the last one before firing a shotgun at the player.
All wiped out, the cousins elicited a mix of joy and panic as they simulteanously shouted for you to disattach the spike.
Thankfully, it was 1 second left where you successfully did it. You won the game and all of you celebrated while sending their praises for YN's smart play.
"Nice game, YN. That was very close."
"Yeah, I actually thought I wouldn't make it." you chuckled.
"Nice clutch. The luck was on us, so let's just be grateful with it."
All of you agreed with it. Back at the lobby, you decided to fix your settings for a bit while waiting for them since there's one of them haven't pressed the ready button yet.
Chatting along with them about some randomized topics, your cousin returned and spoke on the mic to alert the rest.
"Sorry guys, just did a bathroom break. We can go-"
"Loveee, do you want some sandwiches?", a certain feminine person spoke in the background which could be clearly heard by all of you who are now smirking and having teaseful faces.
"Wait, what?"
"Sandwiches. I made some for us."
"Woah really?"
"Mmmhhmm go get some."
It was a brief silence for a while before that woman unexpectedly spoke for all of you.
"Oh, I'm sorry guys. I know you are playing with Beomgyu here. I didn't mean to interrupt of whatsoever."
"No, it's okay Shuhua. We get it." Taehyun said, who is one of your male cousins you are currently playing with.
"Hi, Shuhua!" you and Minnie who is your other cousin greeted.
"Hey guys!"
"Apology accepted only if you make us some sandwiches too next time we meet, okay?"
"Oh you guys." Shuhua laughed. "Come here anytime you guys want, that's a note taken."
"Thanks for this, love. It was so good."
You were listening to their conversation and couldn't help but alter your emotions in order to feel less happy of hearing the sweet sentiments they exchanged with one another.
You became curious again about what it truly feels like to be in your cousin's position and have a loving girlfriend accompany you with anything you may want to receive that would probably satisfy your needs and desires.
You couldn't help but be little envious of your cousin for already dating someone great. Knowing the issues you're facing, it appears that some fixation is still needed for you to become like him. Nevertheless, you still wanted to become like him one day.
"Glad you liked it. I'm going back there, continue playing with your cousins. Love you!"
"Thanks again for this, love you too!"
A sound of a door shutting close was heard. you closed the loadout and stopped your thoughts about that to focus back in the game.
"Damnit, Beomgyu. What's with the sudden slap of reality that we wouldn't be that lucky as you." Kai said, earning a hilarious response from the rest.
"It wasn't intentional, okay? And cmon guys, just find somebody around. Who knows, maybe you guys can be as blessed as I am now too. I don't want to be the only one left being like this from all of us, ya know." Beomgyu advised.
You wondered about that. It's not as easy as it looks, especially for a guy/girl like you who not a social person.
After another hour of playing with them, you cut off the call and ended the game. Thinking of wanting to get some rest, you head to the bedroom and slumped your body on the bed lazily, where you slowly fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Why are you crying? Tell me, please."
"You keep on ignoring me these past few days like I've done something wrong that I don't even recall doing one. Did I really do one?"
"N-No, you don't okay? I-"
"Then what is it? Everytime I see you away I can tell that there's something wrong. You don't even lay an eye on me if you wanted to or speak fluently if I try you to. Do you hate me now, YN?"
"Please, don't say it like that."
"You're making me feel lonely, YN. When I made myself to be youf friend, I thought that we would be nothing but happy with everything. But now, it feels like there's something changing again and I'm confused what to do to keep you from me. Are you gonna leave me, YN?"
"N-No, I don't! Please, listen to me-"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"WAAAAAHHH HUH... HAAGGHH... HA..."
You sprung your eyes up in a state of shock and petrified as you rose your body from the bed.
Looking around the room and at your clock, you noticed that it was still 2 o'clock early in the morning. The sky is still dark, with moonlight shining through the posts on the streets, illuminating your window.
For the nth time, you had this dream again of being with somebody you didn't even know or couldn't even identify. But judging by her appearance, she looks like a girl. She wears this dress that has different colors in every dream you have with her.
Everything is describable except for her face. Imagine it being blocked by strong sunlight. It was blank, but you knew that you had to do something to fill it up and reveal the answer.
The question though, is... how?
Anyway, you still feel sleepy, so you don't mind it that much for now. You considered it just one of your strange nights that bothered you. Returning back to your bed, you closed your eyes and proceeded with your peaceful slumber to doze off into the remaining hours ahead.
-------------------------------
You went to school without much help again with your parents, with your mom and dad both away from work. This is where you mostly learn how to be dependable to yourself and mature in your actions and mindset to support yourself on your own.
Fortunately, you have your grandmother with you, but as a request, you didn't want her to assist you too much because you feel like you will never learn how to stand up for yourself.
Additionally, you didn't want her to be disturbed or get tired just to do things for you that you could even do easily by yourself.
Despite the hesitation, she just agreed and didn't take it with hard feelings. She understood that you just wanted to be thoughtful of hers, so the only thing she can repay you for is to do the same for you as she monitors you around silently, just in case you struggled and there you will finally need some for her to do.
Back at the scene, you went to class early since it's Monday and there's a flag ceremony being held whenever it's the start of the school week again.
After that, you endured lengthy lectures from every professor about your three different subjects slated for the first half of your class schedule. The bell rang just in time for the instructor to distribute the required assignment.
Bringing your own lunch box to avoid spending most of your money, especially when you are saving up to buy a precious thing, you looked for a vacant spot and sat there.
As usual, you were all alone, just like you wanted, so you opened up your lunch box and prayed before scooping a spoonful and having your first munch.
While you were eating silently as you disregarded the numerous people in the same room as yours, you became oblivious enough not to be aware of this random girl suddenly appearing in front of you.
"That's a nice looking cooked lunch you have there." A girly voice spoke near at you. You paused your hand in mid-air when you heard that.
Looking upwards, you met a figure of a random schoolgirl with her tray filled with her orders being holded in her hands. "Uhh, I'm sorry?"
"Chicken nuggets with bacon and egg, that's a must win for sure!" The girl lets out one of the cheerful and mellow giggle you've ever heard in your entire life, but you didn't made it obvious because you still are trying to figure this out:
"May I know your concern why did you appear in my spot?"
"Correction: OUR spot." The girl placed her tray on the table and sat on the empty chair in front of you.
"What the- hey!"
"Thanks for the seat!"
Your face crumpled in confusion at the guts of this girl to just came up with her own doing without permission of somebody else. "Miss, I didn't even allowed you to seat with me. Leave."
"Aww that's sad of you, but don't you ever get bored of being alone?" The girl frowned. You look at her closely now that she's very near in front of you. Awe-struck and dumbfounded, you recognized this girl's beauty and adorable features.
She has pearly white skin, her cheeks are pinkish enough to be misintepreted that she always blushes at certain reasons, her black long hair organized neatly and that shiny smile she has displayed over you.
"I'm not. I've been doing this for a long time now and I got pretty used to it."
"Yeah, I know. I've been seeing you here every week, nothing but yourself eating on your own. I could tell that exactly that you ain't bothered anymore of being alone." The girl replied. You were quite surprised that she's already noticing you every day. It didn't crossed your mind that other would care about it as less as you do.
"You do?"
"Mmhmmm. I'm not being a stalker or what, huh! Just look around, you're the only one who doesn't have any classmates to eat with. I mean... no offense but, why didn't you just eat at the classroom?"
"My classmates always steal my food from me." You answered. "And my patience is thin so... I found the perfect place for me not to get interrupted."
"Ohhh... but still it doesn't look right that you are different than every one here." The girl began to take out the orders laid on the tray.
"I'm sorry, miss. I barely even know you, why does it bother you that much?"
"Because...
.... I want to be your friend."
"What?"
"You heard me." The girl smugged. "I've been wanting to do this but now that I've seeing you frequently without having change was enough for me to do it so... I took the move now then."
"Sorry, miss. I appreciate the concern but I'm truly fine, really. You can have some other students there as your friend. They'll need it more." You said with a forced apologetic smile as you start comsuming the last remaining portions you have in your plate. "Please, leave."
"Oh... okay then. If that's what you want." The girl pouted and brought her orders back on the tray and she stands up on her seat. "I didn't meant to be rude but... hey, my names Miyeon. How about you?"
"I won't gonna tell, please just go away." You avoided her look as you continued to focus on your food.
"Fine. I might failed today but I'm getting it soon anyway." The girl whose name is Miyeon shrugged. "But take this as my word, mister. I won't going to stop! As much as you like or not, Cho Miyeon is going to be your friend from now on!"
She raised her fist to the sky and left joyfully, returning to her original position. You were left gawking and furrowing your eyebrows as you were astonished at how authoritarian this Miyeon is.
You may be skilled at pretending, but you couldn't lie deep within yourself that Miyeon successfully had you built a fascination for her.
The bell chimes again to signify that class resumes. Recess is over, so you left your spot and walked through the hallway. You noticed that Miyeon speedily walked ahead of you, watching her skip and hum softly as she entered her classroom. You realized that hers was just next to you.
When the class ended, it was bad timing that the heavy rainfall advisory that was announced earlier in the news arrived at noontime. You forgot to bring an umbrella, so you cursed under your breath and defeatedly watched the other students freely escape the campus with their belongings.
"How am I going to get home early with this? Should I call grandma? Nah... I don't want her to get sick. Ugh, now I'm going to stay here for I don't know how long. I'm pretty tired now; I want to rest already," You muttered to yourself.
As you kept on watching the rain fall hardly to the wet and soaked ground, you were startled when an umbrella opened beside you. You look it up to see who owns that hand that holds it, and to your surprise, it was Miyeon who is smiling again at you just like she did earlier.
"Forgot to bring yours huh."
"W-what are you doing here?"
"Uhh, going home?" Miyeon replied, it sounded sarcastic so you couldn't help but to begun doubting her.
"Are you stalking me, Miyeon?"
"Oooh now calling me with my name huh, that's better." Miyeon giggled. You almost get lost again by that soothing sound. "And what did I say back in the recess, I wasn't intentionally stalking you. It happens that we have this... great timing between us to caught up with one another."
"Ugh, whatever you say." You shook your head.
"Don't believe me? I was just late because I had to help my professor check our tests today. You can ask hin if y-"
"Yeah yeah, alright fine. I believe you now. No need."
"See, that was easy." Miyeon smirked. "Don't try to be arrogant, YN. If that works with others, that won't be the same for me."
"I-I'm not..." you gritted your teeth and grunted. "Argh, you're annoying. I didn't even asked for you to come here, act like my friend and accompany me."
"You sure you don't want to?" Miyeon looked at you before she side-eyed the heavy rain outside while she wiggles her umbrella.
"N-No." You looked away from her.
"Are you sure? Huhhh okay then, I'm going now. I hope you finally get home after 3 hours of waiting, I heard that the rain will s-"
She was about to step on the staircase when you quickly made her halt.
"No, wait! Stop, f-fine! C-can I join you under your umbrella?"
Miyeon grinned and raised it above her head. "There you go. Now get on my side!"
You embarassingly went beside her and tried to adjust your weight at Miyeon's level of holding the umbrella. "I-I just don't have any other choice, okay? Don't take this like I still accept your initiation."
"Yeah yeah whatever you say, YN." Miyeon rolled her eyes and mischieviously smickered at you. "You're welcome, by the way."
You shook your head at her mockery as a payback for what you did to her.
As you and Miyeon started to walk through the middle of the rain, you can feel the coldness through your skins and your socks and shoes getting soaked.
You sensed Miyeon's hand starting to be challenged with the force of the heavy rainfall dripping down to the surface of the umbrella that causes it to be pressed down and sway unsteadily.
You didn't want the girl to bring you both into a much difficult situation by possibly dropping or slipping down the umbrella in her hold that could cause you both getting bathed in the rain so you did what it had to be done and possibly get sick.
You don't want her to be sick and cost her attendance.
"Let me." You patted Miyeon's hand on the handle. She looked upon you as she felt that slight touches of your fingers to her skin.
"I'll be holding it. You can't take this longer. Just... hold on to me if you want, don't stay out and wet yourself from the rain."
Miyeon slowly lends the umbrella to you, listening to your suggestion. Being the one holding it, you strengthened your arm so that it can handle the pressure of the raindrops.
Feeling a bit shy and grateful at the same time, Miyeon slowly moves her hands on the arm you are using and gripped it with just a right tightness.
"Thank you, YN. I didn't know you were this gentleman too, huh."
"Stop teasing me Miyeon. I'm just doing this because I don't want us to get sick because you accidentally let go of the umbrella with your shaky hand." You said while you remain your glance on the direction you both are heading too.
"So, we'll be going to your house first then."
"Ofcourse, you own the umbrella."
"Yay, so I get to see your house also today? Woah, isn't that cool that we just became friends today and now I'm here with you on the way to your place?!"
"Again, I'm not your friend, Miyeon. I'm just letting you do the favor because I needed it."
"Heh. He's still in denial" Miyeon blurted in her mind.
"Sure, YN. You don't really sound exactly like you're approaching a friend for that." Miyeon winked and nuzzled her head at your arm which taken you aback and confusingly get flustered at her action.
All you have to do is sigh and endure this new company you're having with Miyeon.
Despite all of your stubborn remarks that went against Miyeon's desire to be friends with you, those engagement that you did along with her conversations she had with you along your trails beneath the rain that slowly builds the closeness between you and her says otherwise.
Then few days later, you had to finally submit as you admitted to Miyeon that you acknowledge her now as your friend. Your very first official friend around the campus.
She's just too irresistable and "annoying", that's why.
2 MONTHS LATER
Your friendship with Miyeon became broad as it developed over time with your daily interactions with each other. Ever since you finally decided to be her friend, she couldn't leave you alone unattended with her attention.
You could tell it was exaggerated now, but you don't really mind at all at the same time. In fact, she was helping you in some other way. It's not a big deal to you because, at some point, you needed her presence, whether physically or maybe through some social media where you two stay connected with each other.
At least she knows what to do and how to adjust if she observes. If you were in a bad mood, she just let you burst out whatever you wanted to release from this uncomfy feeling that you'd been containing inside of you. Miyeon has become the trustworthy person to whom you can open up about your personal troubles.
If you needed entertainment, she was just right there, all ready to join your fun, whatever you wanted, which was playing video games. It was even better to know that she's a gamer girl and loves anime. Both of you correlate with each other, and that's impressive to think about.
Sometimes, it makes you wonder if meeting someone like her was a coincidence or meant to happen. It was like meeting yourself but in the form of another person, and you can't even describe how compatible you feel because of Miyeon.
With all that, it's safe to say that you've actually grown to like all of these things that you're having with Miyeon. This annoying, playful, bubbly girl who just invaded your space turns out to be a blessing in disguise in your life.
Today was an event currently being held on your campus. This requires all the students to participate, so that being said, it allowed everyone to be free from their class. Technically speaking, it was just like you went to school today only to hang out with your classmates... and of course, that unescapable friend of yours who has been nowhere to be seen for 3 hours now after you last saw each other in the locker area.
"You could've sold some of your collections, man" your classmate named Yeonjun said to your other classmate named Soobin. You three were sitting at the kiosk, doing a multiplayer game for the third and final round.
"I know, but it's hard if I'm not fully decided to do it. I know some were just a waste of space in my room, but at the same time I couldn't let it go because it was too special to me. Those were original qualities, guys" Soobin replied while moving his thumbs around the screen of his phone.
"Man, if only I have that much of a money I would've bought yours right away. Your One Piece figurines were sick man." Yeonjun said. "We're friends anyway, Bin. Can you just give it to me if you al-"
"Hep hep! Nah, that's the line there. Yes, I can borrow it to you though but giving it away... I can't waste that much of a money by just giving it away." Yeonjun declined. "No offense, man."
"It's fine I was just kidding anyways." Soobin rippled his lower lip. You were still listening to their conversation while your concentration remains intact to the game which was effective to bring yourselves into victory.
"Nice one, YN! Good game guys."
"Well that was easy."
"Good thing their team wasn't that skilled, haha." You said before turning off your phone.
"Hey, lets go visit those booths there. I'm getting invested to see what they have in store for the students to buy. Lets go?" Soobin suggested. You and Yeonjun agreed, leaving the kiosk and walking your way towards the open ground in front of the accountancy building.
You've seen the products from those student entrepreneurs that indeed holds up various reasons on why these should be bought and gain and income to this idea they had.
From milkshakes, to old clothes, to jewelries and many more... the students have many to choose.
There were some other booths that only provides entertainment service for students to try, and the example you were seeing at is this booth that gives everyone an opportunity to do a-
"Wedding pictorial?" Yeonjun reads the placard. "So... does this mean-"
"They need two students, one each for boys and girls that can act as two wedding couples for a pictorial."
"Oh I see, so this is simply for students who wants to take a chance to have a pictures with their crushes but in a daring way, huh." You elaborated.
"Like that."
The three of you saw a female student and a male dressed in a tuxedo and a wedding gown with flowers on their hands. They went to a stand that shows a background suited for a wedding.
All of the students cheered and screamed in flattery as they witnessed the two seem to like each other mutually and finally have a picture with each other.
As they were finished, they removed the props, and you followed the sight of the girls, and you figured out that it was one of Miyeon's classmates who was also at the booth with you.
"Both of us had our picture now, come on Miyeon you can't be the only one left behind!" one of her classmates named Soyeon shook her arm.
"B-but I don't have a crush-"
"Then just fake it out and look for somebody! We should all be fair with each other so you better find one for you too, Miyeon." her other classmate who just previously tried the pictorial named Yuqi insisted.
While there's other students who are having a picture in the booth, that gave Miyeon a few more time to find. Fortunately, as she roamed her eyes, it landed on a perfect option that she had.
Actually, it was pretty stupid that she didn't think of this guy knowing that he's the only boy she's close with.
Miyeon ran and tugged your arm while you are observing the toys displayed from the other booth.
"W-what the- Miyeon?"
"Follow me!"
"Eh? W-where are you taking me you crazy girl! Get your hands away!"
You tried to remove her arm but despite of this girl's thin physique, her grip is actually strong and unescapable.
You concede defeat as she pushed you to the booth where the same wedding concept is being done.
"Oh no." You immediately answered and tried to leave but Miyeon blocked your way.
"Pleaseee~ just one, YN." Miyeon looked up at you and pleaded.
"Miyeon we could have a picture but not in this?!"
"My classmates wants me to try it too, I'm the only one in the group who doesn't have one yet. Can you help me?"
"Miyeon, I said no. Where are they? I'll talk with them."
"Pleaseee, YN? Just once, promise! Let's try this."
"Miyeon, this is just for people who have feeli-"
"Hey, are you two gonna take the turn or what?" One of the student entrepreneurs asked irritably, interrupting your conversation.
"I'll make it up to you, I swear." Miyeon quickly whispered. "For now, let's get married and be my groom."
"Whaaa?"
"We'll take it!" Miyeon yelled and the crowd cheered, including your respective classmates who are very intrigued and supportive with this.
"OOOHHH YES! LET'S GOOO YN!"
"AAAAAAAAA YN?! I KNEW THAT IT'S HIM, MIYEON!"
"Look what you did." You hissed as you dressed yourself up
"Hehe, oops." Miyeon fakely made herself accountable.
You and she walked outside the backroom and stepped out with your props. The photographer directed you both to stick at each other very close and pretend like you two just married each other today.
Miyeon cuddled your arm, and you slowly pressed the side of your head against hers. Everyone was just shrieking and howling in madness at how unaware they were that you both looked incredible together.
You glanced Miyeon aside for a moment, and you saw her large grin on her face and her supple touch on your arms as you viewed her in a wedding-like attire. She was undeniably magnificent and gorgeous. How much more if you saw her up close with you in a real wedding gown, having her married with you?
Your eyes widened and then blinked rapidly as you sweeped away that thought. You began asking yourself mentally why did you even had that kind of idea? She's your friend, damnit. That was a curse directed for yourself.
"Kid, are you good now?" The photographer asked for clarification.
"Y-yes, sir."
"Alright, on three. One, two, three!"
The camera flashed as the photographer captured an image of you and Miyeon together. You were confused about why the screams went louder after that.
You both removed the props before you joined Miyeon to look at the picture.
In your bewilderment, you saw a result far from what you were expecting.
Miyeon changed her pose in the last second, where she faced you and pursed her lips while closing her eyes, almost touching your cheek.
As you looked back at Miyeon. She nodded and hummed in satisfaction.
"Well, that worked." She gave you a thumbs up before she immediately ran back to her classmates who began to tease her more. You just stared as she disappeared in your eyes, not minding Yeonjun and Soobin teasing you also, as you were so preoccupied with what just Miyeon did to you.
When you two walk yourselves on the way home, you and her would just talk again at each other about some topics that would have yourselves get related with.
"Wait, can you wait here for a second? I'll just have to buy a medicine." She excused herself as she went through the pharmacy store where you two just stopped in front of.
You waited for her like she told you to, gradually browsing at your phone for a while before she returns back to your side and continue walking along with her.
Reaching the roads where you and her would be seperating ways, she faced you as you led yourselves at the corner of the sidewalk.
She reached for her pocket and opened her wallet where she reached and placed on her hand the fake wedding picture you two had earlier and lend it to you.
You felt a bit awkward facing her after what happened earlier. You thought she won't gonna make a reference of it during your talk with her so you decided to just go with the flow instead but here you two are and there's no dodging it now.
"About earlier, I'm sorry for what I did." Miyeon said as you reached the picture from her. "I thought that it will make it realistic so I tried, but ofc I know that would be entirely against you so... I just pretended like I would give you a kiss. But still, thanks for joining me despite how I humiliated ourselves earlier."
You looked at the picture again then at her. "I wasn't angry about it, Miyeon. Don't overthink about it. I do like it though. Atleast in ours, we put a little twist so yeah... I like it."
Miyeon nodded and smiled in relief. "That's good. Okay, well let's go home now. See you tomorrow! Bye, YN!"
"Bye, Miyeon. Be safe." You smiled and waved back at her as you two went to your directions.
After Miyeon enters her house, she smiled and was overwhelmed that you also share the same approval of that moment you two just shared.
4 MONTHS LATER
You and Miyeon just finished your third year in college. Only a year remains before you and she finally finish your studies and achieve that master's degree that will help you both further label yourselves as professionals in your chosen specialization.
However, this may be a thrilling and more encouraging year for the both of you. But bad luck made its entrance into your lives when things started to transform into a difficult situation for you two.
"You got it?" You asked Miyeon and shown her the registration form in your hand which you will receive after filling up the enrollment form that will be presented to you after reaching your turn in the line.
"Yeah, I have it." Miyeon softly waves the piece of paper in her hand.
"Let's go, where do you want to eat first?" You asked her as you joined her side as you leave the building.
"At the-" Miyeon lets out heavy breaths before continuing, but it was still uncomplete when she elicited another batch of heavy breaths in between. Her speaking has gone low because of her volume either.
"Miyeon, are you okay?" You asked her worriedly. Based on your observation she looks so exhausted, dried up and lame. Her face just shows pale expression and no sign of uplift at all.
"I'm good. I'm good, thanks for as-"
"Miyeon? MIYEON!" You suddenly exclaimed when Miyeon collapsed beside your leg. You kneeled and inspected her, her eyes are still open but barely moving.
Raising up her arms and gently tapped at her face, you asked her once again. "Miyeon, hey. Stay awake, okay? Here, drink some water."
You offered your tumbler which still has coldness on the water inside. You helped Miyeon to drink, lifting the container and hold it in place to support her mouth.
Carrying her with ease, you brought her down in one of the benches which you helped her fix her sitting position. You wiped the sweat around her neck, head and arms and used the folder of your documents as a handfan to give her more air.
"You okay? How are you feeling, Miyeon?"
"I-I don't know, I just got tired... again.' Miyeon unenergetically responded. You probably guessed that she was very nervous and the hot atmosphere of this sunny afternoon wasn't contributing well to her state that's why she got drained immediately from the amount of heat and stress she had to endure.
"I'm going to take you home, okay? Let's just go out some other day. You have to rest for now." Miyeon just nodded understandably. You crouched in front of her, your back facing her.
"Hold onto me, I'll piggyback you."
"But YN, I can walk-...."
"Don't make me repeat again, Miyeon."
Miyeon placed her arms around your neck and you tightened its lock before you placed your hands underneath her thighs as you carried her body until you got both of you grab a ride on a bus.
Knocking in her house, her mother answered the call. She became very concerned just when she saw you having her daughter who looks very unwell.
"What happened to her?!"
"She just collapsed when we are about to exit the school, Mrs. Cho. I figured she was very dizzy and intensely tired. Have she eaten already?"
"She did took a lunch but I don't know she got weak. Oh, no. Could it be... a-anyways I'll take care of this here. Thank you for escorting my daughter, YN."
"You're welcome, Mrs. Cho." You gently bowed before you slowly lowered down Miyeon on your back with her mother helping her.
"I-I'm sorry, YN..."
"No, get well soon Miyeon. Take care of your health for now. We can have it again next time." You patted her head before you left her with her mother.
As a commitment to your promise for her, you went out in the weekend just a day after Miyeon had a proper rest. You enjoyed your free time with her through strolling outside and explore new places where both made more moments together.
While you and her were taking a break after hours of shopping at the grass outside the mall where the playground for kids were also located, you were just watching videos on Facebook while eating your ice cream when you felt a weight on your shoulder.
You glanced to the side, witnessing Miyeon who already fell asleep with her head laying atop of your shoulder.
Her phone was left open in her phone, displaying her home screen, but what struck you the most is that the wallpaper she's using was a picture of you and her from the recognition day of your classes, holding your respective medals hanging around your neck.
You were touched that she's making reasons to express how proud she is to see you as her beloved friend, but you can't depict if that's the same reason brought by the happiness you were feeling after seeing your photo with her.
Your hand reached up to her newly dyed pink hair and gently stroked it, swaying some strands that were blocking her face and there she was, her full beauty exposed only reserved for you to be seen up close.
Here you are again, secretly praising how beautiful and unreal features. If only you could tell this to her straightforward without sounding suspicious, you would've done it right away.
Because she earns it. She deserves every compliments for a nice girl like her.
Even in her asleep, she still manages to look breathtaking. Everything she does is already exceptional for you, and it was just plain insane to think about it.
As you were about to remove the phone from her hand, your hand paused on its movement and just stayed on top of it. It came to your attention that your heartbeat increased, your skin shivered, blood rushed aggressively, and your cheeks were numbing at the red tint forming that you couldn't even see.
Looking back at Miyeon, you created questions inside your head about whether this feeling you're still having isn't mutual to each other's friendship anymore. This time, you are the only one who's starting to grow a deeper admiration and love for her than the friendly relationship you have with her.
You quickly removed your hand from her and placed her phone away for safety. Looking away at her and staring up at the night sky, you gulped and released a heavy sigh at the thoughts forming in your head.
Days later, Miyeon gets to notice that you are beginning to avoid her, either making up excuses not to participate with her, acting cold, or pretending like you don't know her.
It was worse than the attitude he was trying to pull off when she first met you and offered her welcoming friendship to you. She knows that she was just trying to keep your walls up as you think about the decision to let her be close to you because you never experienced having an actual friend to get along with.
But this time, it was just like you were forcing yourself for no particular or obvious reason. Miyeon was completely clueless as to what drives you to act differently again toward her.
That's why when you joined her after days of not being around her like you always used to do, she couldn't hold her worry and frustration anymore.
You were still silent because you've been sensing Miyeon's unusual blank demeanor. You couldn't able to have her engage in a conversation especially that you are the introverted one. As much as you wanted to talk with her, you instead decided to give her some space as it seems like she's not in a good mood.
"Goodbye, Miyeon. Let's play later if you don't have assignments like me, alright?" You said to her.
Before you're about to continue walking, you heard Miyeon calling your name from behind.
You turned around, and it surprised you to see her eyes with pool of tears, one just dropped across her face.
"Miyeon? What's wrong?" You stepped forward, inching your gap with her.
"What did I do, YN?" She asked you sadly.
"Why are you crying? Tell me, please."
"You keep on ignoring me these past few days like I've done something wrong that I don't even recall doing one. Did I really do one?" She sulked, removing her view as she couldn't bear to stare at you after what you've done to her.
"N-No, you don't okay? I-"
"Then what is it? Everytime I see you away I can tell that there's something wrong. You don't even lay an eye on me if you wanted to or speak fluently if I try you to. Do you hate me now, YN?" Her voice cracked, painfully cracking your heart a bit.
"Please, don't say it like that."
"You're making me feel lonely, YN. When I made myself to be your friend, I thought that we would be nothing but happy with everything. But now, it feels like there's something changing again and I'm confused what to do to keep you from me. Are you gonna leave me, YN?"
"N-No, I don't! Please, listen to me." You hold both of her arms and caressed it. "I just had a trouble about figuring myself. It's in me, you don't have anything to do with it, Miyeon. That's it, and I needed some alone time to figure and settle it on my own."
"Why couldn't you just tell me that you do, YN? You know I would be willing to adjust for you while I wait when you need me fir help. Have you forgot?"
To be honest, you did and that's where it hit the spot of your guilt.
"I'm sorry, Miyeon." You bowed your head.
Miyeon sighed and placed her hand on your shoulder. "Are you being insecure, discouraged of yourself again?"
"W-what?" You asked her, a glimpse of shock was evident when she described accurately what you've been hiding from her.
You just joined her today after you calmed down and solved your problem of making convulsive and negative insights and possibilities of why a girl like Miyeon would never fall in love with you as you are.
This has been the issue why you couldn't find a friend easily. and preventing yourself from getting attached to somebody who marks everything that will win over your interest.
All of it was shattered by Miyeon, and I don't know what to do with this feeling. You had to compose yourself again so that you wouldn't make any slight mistakes that would reveal your admiration for Miyeon and make all of your worries manifest into reality.
"Even if I wouldn't know the reason I can see it through your eyes, YN." Miyeon said. "I told you before and it will remain similar. No matter how much you look down at yourself, it will be nothing to me. I will stay because I wanted to... and you needed it, YN. I've seen you improve and everybody around us could see it. I made myself to be your friend because it was a choice that I never regretted to do."
Miyeon holds your hand and locked it on her hold. Your heartbeat quickened at the touch and her appreciating look she's been giving at you.
"So please, don't regret yourself or me that we met, okay? Be happy and just be free like me, like the time and world is in our hands." Miyeon patted your hand and smiled sweetly.
You nodded and formed an upright curve in your lips in return. "I will."
Miyeon pulled you into a hug, pressing her head on your chest as you snuggled your chin on the crook of her neck. You let yourself be subdued by the warmth of her comforting embrace, and with your grateful prayers and wishes being sent above in heaven, you let a wonderful person like Miyeon enter your life.
That peaceful understanding and make-up that you two had brought back the liveliness and the effects of the dynamics that Miyeon has instilled in you
You proceeded to catch up those few days ago when you separated yourself from Miyeon just so you could get rid again of all these negativities and overthinking that you've been getting ever since that night when you felt different touching Miyeon's hand and how your perspective altered about her beauty.
Treating her to wherever she wants the both of you to try, going around to such places, and even tutoring her about some subjects that she's struggling with.
It was just like what you two always do together, and it was always nice. Something you can't ruin.
However, those good times didn't last much longer when both of you encountered another problem to take seriously, and this might have been the most frightened and anxious you've ever been for Miyeon.
Right as you exited the campus after the class ended, without having your best friend with you, you received a phone call from her mother.
You were notified by bad news that Miyeon was just sent to a hospital today, and she knows you will definitely be coming for her once you know, so she didn't waste more time to inform you.
That's exactly what you did. For the first time, you've never been this panicked after leaving the class. You hurriedly ran and traveled all the way into the hospital that was mentioned to you.
Searching for the rooms, you finally united with her mother, who was waiting outside.
"What happened to her?"
"YN...." Mrs. Cho squeezed your wrists as she cried. You just stared at her as you waited for the next words to come out. "I don't know what to do. I'm scared, I don't want to lose my daughter too."
"Why? Is Miyeon sick? What's her condition?" You asked frantically.
"She is. But I think it's better if you hear it from her and discuss it." Mrs. Cho said. Your chest felt tightened as your body goes weaker at hearing that information. It's been a prediction of yours that there's something wrong with Miyeon ever since she collapsed back in the enrollment day, but you didn't expect that this would've gone worse and that will have you to see her in such inappopriate place for you.
"She's currently resting after the doctors took a check up on her. She'll wake up soon." Mrs. Cho then urges you to go inside the room where she excused herself to buy some food on the convenience store.
As what she said, more than 10 minutes later Miyeon shortly woke up from the hospital bed. You saw her eyes blink carefully and you rushed to her side.
"Miyeon. Hey, buddy. I'm here." You said, placing your hand atop of her torso.
"Y-YN?" Miyeon called your name lamely. "You came..."
"Yeah ofcourse I do, I worried so much about you after your mom called me that you're confined." You kneeled beside her. "She told me that you were sick, Miyeon. Of what? May I know, please? Cause truly, I hate to see you being like this."
"So she already mentioned to you about it." Miyeon sighed and closed her eyes. "Alright, YN. I'll give you the answer. I don't have any more time left to hide this from you."
"What haven't you telling me yet?"
"I'm sorry, YN." Miyeon said, reaching for your hand which you grabbed it and locked it on your hold. "I'm sorry if I'm... going to make you sad."
"I don't care about it, Miyeon. It's just a part of our life. Happiness isn't the only mood that exists, we also go through dark times in our phase. And I believe it's better to be sad at something I know than assuming something that is not." you said to her.
Miyeon smiled at you. "You really are okay now..."
"I always think of you, that's why. It wouldn't be possible if it's not because of you, Miyeon. You inspire me to be better."
Miyeon's teardrop fell from her eye as she nodded. "I know, and you encourage me to fight for what's right. That's why I'm still trying to take care of myself on battling my heart condition."
Your whole senses felt like it zoomed away from your conscience as you intepreted the enormous state of shock that ever striked on you after learning what Miyeon just revealed to you.
"A what?"
"My heart... it isn't what you think, YN." Miyeon tightlipped. "Even my lifeline."
"W-what do you mean? Y-you... Miyeon, so this is..."
"I had it since I was born, YN. My father had it, and now you know why he wasn't around anymore with me and mom." You tilted away to avoid that truth. "I inherited his condition and it was passed through me YN and what happened to him, I can have it too. The doctors thought before that I won't be going to reach 20's... but it's a miracle that I'm still fine, yet again it happened to me again and now I'm thinking twice now if-"
"No, no. Miyeon, you say that your time is limited but like you said, look at you. You are 26 years old now. 6 years, you surpassed that supposed end of the line for you. That means, you can still handle it whenever it occurs, and you will be going to be fine in repeat." You said to her. "As long as you continue living, all you have to do is to enjoy the rest of it."
"About that, I was reminded of something that I can share to you too." Miyeon smiled at the recall while looking softly at you. "I knew I had to do it, when I learnt that it's bad for me to apply pressure on myself, I always remind myself to be joyful and calm. Until I saw you..."
Miyeon rubbed her hand on top of yours, soothing you. "Lonely, gloomy, bland. You were the opposite of me, and I hated to see the very thing that I am preventing myself to be at. Do you know the other reason why I became so interested to meet you, YN?
It's because you helped me realize how can I use my happiness and the remaining time I have with a purpose. That's why I pushed myself to become your friend, YN. I want to accomplish one last thing in my life, and that is to make you happy just as I did to myself.
So please, promise me. Once I'm gone, continue to put smile on other's faces, but don't ever forget about sparing one for yourself, YN. For now... stay, and continue to show me how I've changed you."
You shed your tears that you couldn't contains fron the emotions forcing to escape inside of you. It sucks so hard that you reached the point and such unlikeable scenario that you have to witness and listen to your friend sending her final wishes to you just in case her suffering conquers her.
"Can it still be saved through a surgery?"
"I think so. They did it on my dad, before... but I don't know if it will be successful on me unlike him." She shrugged.
"We don't quite sure, then." You understood. Miyeon wiped your tears with her hands, you curled it and laid your head on her knuckles. "It still doesn't matter to me. I'll never leave, Miyeon. I'll be here to support you anytime. That's what.... friends are for, right?"
You took a pause before saying the word. You've been wanting to improve more than that, but you had to remain cautious.
Both grinned at each other. You joined Miyeon to rest again until Mrs. Cho arrived back at the room with the packed foods in her hands.
A few days ago, you received news from her mother that she agreed with their relatives to bring Miyeon to the States to undergo her surgery after the recommendation that it was the perfect place with complete equipment to perform the surgery successfully and attain a higher chance of survival for Miyeon.
Although it's saddening that you won't be able to see Miyeon for how long it has to be, you just reminded to yourself that you don't have to be selfish and her health is the number one priority here. It was always been the important part after all this time, and it was so relieving that you were able to help her along despite without your knowledge, which was pretty impressive to realize.
You are now at the airport with your family, joining Miyeon and her family on their departure so that you both can say goodbye properly to each other.
You and Miyeon faced at each other. "I'm going to miss you, YN."
"Me too, Miyeon. Good luck on the surgery, okay? I'll be here waiting for you to come back."
"I am, and you will me better than ever before." Miyeon smiled.
"You should be, because I have a gift for you when you return."
"What could it be? You're making me excited already, YN!"
"It's unique, that's all I can say." You chuckled. Miyeon invites you to a hug and you reciprocated it.
"Goodbye for now, Miyeon-ah. You can do it, okay? Fighting!"
"HAHAHAHA, I'll fight for you, YN."
As she lets go from the embrace, you were dumbfounded when Miyeon performed a quick peck of a kiss to your cheek. Your chest throbs rapidly, mood blooms and ou felt more alive than ever today because of that heartfelt gesture.
"Goodbye, YN! I won't be away for long!"
She waves her hand at you while her mother nods also. Joining your parents, you watched them slowly disappear from your sights as your hopes grew stronger and bigger that she could endure and overcome this challenge she's currently facing personally.
A few weeks later, you were inserting your things into your locker while your classmates Yeonjun and Soobin narrated to you the entire plot of the new game they just bought.
They invited you to join them after you went to the mall to check out the new collectibles and arcade shop that is scheduled to open tomorrow, and you didn't hesitate to agree since you would also be craving to see it on your own.
While you three are conversing, you felt your phone vibrate. Upon checking, it was a phone call coming from your mother.
You answered it right away, excusing yourself to your classmates for a moment and they immediately understood.
"Hello, mom?"
You furrowed your eyebrows when you heard her shuddering breaths.
"Mom?"
"Y-YN..."
"Yes, mom. I'm here. Why did you call?"
"I'm sorry, honey." Her mother was stiffling a sob. "Listen to me first, okay? Don't engage once you hear it-"
"Mom, please. What is it? I'm getting nervous right now. Why are you being like this?" You said anxiously, your breathing starts to go heavy.
"It's about Miyeon, YN." Your mother said. Your fingers went stiff from grasping the phone. "Her mother called me few minutes ago and she told me that... Miyeon's gone."
Everything went blurry, awfully quiet and unresponsive to you as you suddenly crashed in the ground, slipping at the locker door on your back, dropping the phone in your hand. Your classmates and other students around the hallway were startled at what happened to you.
"Hey, YN? Yo, dude what happened?"
"YN, what's wrong man?"
Yeonjun and Soobin were taken aback when you punched the floor and screamed in agony as you let out the hardest cry you've ever released.
As you went home, you were greeted by a comforting hug from your mother as you let yourself weaken and pour out all the pain that you've felt.
That wasn't even the worst part, as you learned next from your mother the additional details of Miyeon's sudden death. She told you that Miyeon, Mrs. Cho, and her aunt were on their way to the hospital when they got involved in a car accident caused by a drunk driver operating a truck.
Mrs. Cho and the aunt suffered injuries, but the large impact of the crash brought a shock to Miyeon that was unable for her enlargening heart to sustain, causing it to fail in functioning and pronounce it her cause of death just now.
A week later at Miyeon's burial, as you just stared brokenheartedly at her newly created grave, her mother approached to you.
"She gave this to me while we're staying at the hotel. Miyeon told me that if ever something bad happens to her, she wants to me to give this you." Mrs. Cho who is more devastated then you, losing both her husband and her only daughter with the same complication, said as she hands you a white envelope.
You reached it from her and slowly opened it. It was a handwritten letter made by her. You read the contents of it silently.
Dear YN,
Hey there, my number one buddy! I know I've said to you that I'll come back once this is all over, but still I have made a back up once the unfortunate has come to get me during this battle that I'm having with my vulnerable heart, and if you're reading this right now... I don't want to mention but I have to be clear. This only means that I failed you. I'm gone forever and I won't be back anymore, but whatever happens; it won't stop me for saying what I want to say all dedicated to my one true bestfriend, which is you.
Thank you so much that even though my proposal of my friendship to you was forceful and a bit threatening, you still gave it an attempt. Look at where we are now, I told you that I would be real for you, and you did the same for me. I think that's the reason why our bond became stronger, because we discovered our flaws with each other and we helped each other to change all of that. As I said, all I want to for you to be better. And you were always a great guy in my eyes, YN. It's a no shocker that I fell in love with you. Tadaaa, now you know my secret. Well, that's one of the reasons why I made this letter, so that I could tell you what I actually feel for you once I couldn't come back and unable to say this to you in person.
I like you a lot, YN. And I know you do. It's so obvious of you, you know? I find it funny and impressive how you still manage to endure all of that by showing this tough shell of yours. But I get it, I know there' a reason. You're just scared as me. That's why I couldn't confess to you earlier because I know you deserve better. And probably your own reason is that this boundaries and insecuries of yours are still present, maybe that's why you couldn't even face me because you're looking lowly of yourself while believing that you've already fallen for me. It's interesting right? We both share the same thought that we both deserve better. But anyway, I don't mind it. I still have this precious thing and that is called friendship, atleast... with this I could still prove and show to you how I love you with all my heart that will remain stuck on you.
Before I end this letter, I just want you to do me one last favor, YN. Please visit her grave anytime you want and never forget me. That way, I could take it as an alternate way to see you from above that you love me too.
Until we see each other again, buddy.
Love, Miyeon
You broke down in tears as you fell into the grassy land, just below her grave, filled with a mixture of bittersweet emotions, being delighted, grateful, and touched by her kind and heartwarming remarks about this whole awesome journey you two had been on, while on the other side, there's the guilt, grief, and torment that you didn't get to confess your true feelings to his only best friend and admirer before it was too late, unlike she did.
10 YEARS LATER
You are now currently working as an IT technician in one of the largest programming companies in South Korea.
You may be mostly busy in your professional life, but you still tried your best to allow and reserve free time to connect with your loved ones: your parents, your grandma, your friends Yeonjun and Soobin who now works as game developers, while Soyeon and Yuqi are now one of the most famous performers in SK, Mrs. Cho and her relatives and most importantly: her.
You always visit Miyeon's grave whenever you wanted to, just like her final request which you remember every single day.
Today is her birthday, you went to her grave last after all of her loved ones visited her earlier.
You looked down on her grave, the expensive tombstone standing on it with a lovely picture of her back in college placed on a frame.
CHO MIYEON Gone but never forgotten as she remains alive within our hearts forever.
January 31, 1997 - July 25, 2023
You placed the birthday cake and some balloons that you're bringing with you beside her tombstone.
"Happy birthday, Miyeon." You greeted her before lighting up the candles.
"10 years and counting now, huh. But I'm still here just like you asked me too. I stayed, and I'm still waiting patiently for my time to come where I can see you again someday." You said, your nose gets stingy as your eyes starts to become watery.
"Thank you for existing and having the pleasure to meet you, where you taught me how is it like to have a true friend... and to fall in love with you. It was all once in my imaginations, so thank you... for bringing it all to reality, even though... it didn't last longer as we expect to be."
You recalled all of the memories that you had with her, but what struck you the most was the necklace you're wearing.
You opened the locket, revealing that it was your fake wedding couple photo with her back in college, which was actually her last gift to you along with the letter she wrote from you inside the envelope given to you by Mrs. Cho 10 years ago. It's such a wasted wish that you won't be able to recreate this moment with her. If she ever did come back, you would've shown her the gift of your love for her, given her a chance to be your girlfriend, proposed to her, and married her without any pretend. Miyeon would be such a lovely wife to have, for sure.
As you looked at her appearance, you also remembered that time back at the mall where she slept on your shoulder. The picture she had on her wallpaper at that time was also the one you're using now.
It brought you back to your very first hug with her. Your eyes sprung up, and the familiarization hit you as you compared it to the same scenario you dreamt before, and up until now, it still is.
But what's even better now is that you can see the girl's face now. and it felt even more realistic than before. Same structure, same pinkish hair, same colorful dress.
Your eyes swelled before they broke down into tears, lowering your head as you cried in your palms.
It went on for minutes until you calmed down and ate the cake for her while watching your recorded moments with her on your phone.
You were so invested in all of those happy memories you were revisiting that you didn't notice a stranger peeking at you from behind.
"Awww your girl is so beautiful, dear." The old lady says with a soft smile. You looked above to see her figure.
"Thank you." You bowed your head.
"So that's her name?" She said as she reads Miyeon's tombstone.
"Yes, she's Miyeon." You politely answered.
She hummed and frowned. "It's unfortunate that she passed away too soon. She looks so young." You smiled through the pain as you wiped your tears. "We're just the same, I visited my late husband today on our wedding anniversary." She pointed at the direction where it is located.
"That's sweet grandma." "Are you okay now, dear? I know it hurts a lot to lose somebody we love, but trust me, it won't make us feel better if we don't practice how to let go." You nodded while trying to end your cries as the old lady is now caressing your arm to console you. "I am. I've already accepted her fate."
"You surely must have miss her so much, don't you? I bet you think about her anytime."
You looked at Miyeon's picture and smiled with pure confidence. "Yes, I do. She is and always will be on my mind... because Miyeon is the woman of my dreams."

Gordon Swap Chapter Eleven: He Didn't Know
Chapter One
Previous Chapter
~
Watching alternate-Gordon argue was mesmerizing. He was loud and brash, gesturing with his hands – or hand and stump – as he spoke, raising his voice more than was probably needed. When he got upset he made sure everyone around knew and made them listen, even awkwardly drawing his gun again and this time firing it – thankfully it wasn’t a danger to Benrey. Probably Gordon should interfere again but even more than the explosive interaction other-Gordon had had when reuniting with the rest of the team, it was hard to look away. And this time there wasn’t anything that needed to be explained, making it even harder.
Having a voice wasn’t necessary. Gordon got on just fine without one. He’d had plenty of chances to partake in experiments that might give him a voice much like how he’d been given hearing, but he’d always declined; sign language was fine. Never before had he had doubts about that. This guy though, he could hold people’s attention. It’d be a lot harder to dismiss him by merely turning away and would take quite a bit of effort to talk over him. Gordon had seen that before obviously in other people, Barney was like that too sometimes, but it was different when it was a version of himself doing it.
How many things were different and had gone differently in their lives to lead to this Gordon being like this? Presumably he’d been born with the ability to speak and hear. A pretty big difference that had no doubt led to lots of differences, big and small. How had it all led to him traveling with companions post the Resonance Cascade instead of being alone for so, so long? Gordon wanted to ask but… interrupting heated spoken arguments was difficult. If their situations were reversed, it would’ve been easy. Also, what questions would he even begin with?
So he just stood and watched them argue, fascinated by the open frustration playing across his alternate’s face. The fact that a strong reaction was obviously what Benrey wanted and thus being calm or just ignoring him would probably make him give up eventually seemed lost on him. Or actually, no ‘probably’ about it. Benrey had tried getting similar reactions out of Gordon but upon being rebuffed enough times had sulked off. Someone should tell other-Gordon that.
Eventually… “You know what? Fuck you. We’re here on an important world saving mission so we don’t have time for this shit. Goodbye.” With that, other-Gordon raised hand in a dismissive wave and as he turned and did the wise thing of walking way.
He was right! They were here for a very important mission. Now was not the time for Gordon to get lost in his fascination with his alternate self. Shaking himself mentally, he jogged to catch up and fell into step with his alternate. A slight tap on his shoulder and a point had him going in the direction the Vonnegut had pointed Gordon in upon stepping through the portal.
Barney jogged up to join them, coming in on other-Gordon’s other side. Leaving the rest of them to follow as they pleased.
“Hey, you can’t walk away. You need your uh, passport to go that way,” Benrey called after them.
Other-Gordon started to turn to respond. Gordon quickly tapped him on the shoulder again, getting his attention. He lifted a finger to his lips. Don’t respond.
He stared for a beat before answering in a hushed voice. “Uh, yeah, good idea… I think. I should ignore him even if um… he’s a bit harder to ignore now because of the whole… you know? Do you know why he’s so big?”
Gordon shrugged. None of the others had asked and he couldn’t so he had no way of knowing. They could pause now to do it but between stopping to observe this fight as well as the earlier one – needing to talk with Barney had saved him from getting as distracted there at least – they’d already spent far too much time standing around.
“Where you guys headed anyway?”
A look back revealed that Benrey was following, apparently he was with the group again. He’d phased partially through the ground as he did it, perhaps so he could stay low with them. Gordon had seen that earlier so it wasn’t surprising. It was another interesting mystery that there was sadly no time for yet.
“We’re uh… still going to the tower,” Tommy answered.
“And the Vonneguts are apparently helping us get there faster,” Bubby added, still sounding skeptical about it. An understandable reaction.
“They’re our new friends.” Coomer however sounded perfectly pleased with that idea. Good for him.
With the return of their original Gordon and Benrey present once more, their group was finally whole again. Other-Gordon obviously wasn’t as pleased about that as he could’ve been, understandably so after being betrayed. But Gordon was pleased with this development. It sure beat being alone and he got to see just how his alternate self interacted with them. Maybe a bit of a weird thing to want to see but with how many times other-Gordon had come up in conversation beforehand, it was hard not to be curious.
~
Unfortunately their time outside was brief before they were going through another portal leading to another Vonnegut run facility. Not that Gordon didn’t want more exposure to the aliens and their technology, just that knowing how much closer they were to the tower and thus how much further they had to go would’ve been nice to know. No choice though, they just kept going.
Their marching order, stirred by Benrey’s return, settled with Gordon, his alternate, and Barney in the front. Bubby, Coomer, and Tommy stuck with them to varying degrees but were always close behind as they’d been since Gordon had met up with them. Leaving Benrey, his size seemingly different every time Gordon looked at him, at the back or to the sides, just hovering around in general. Seemingly he was here to stay.
Naturally him staying caused unrest. Every chance he got, he poked at other-Gordon for a reaction. How obvious his desire for attention from him specifically was impossible to miss. He got it too because despite Gordon’s best attempts to keep his alternate focused, other-Gordon responded fairly often. Seemingly he couldn’t stop himself. Social interactions were something he just did without thought or effort required.
Eventually, things settled a bit more. Not completely calm but other-Gordon didn’t seem as primed to have another big show of frustration, rightful or otherwise. He was flagging, losing his spot at Gordon’s side. Given that, upon Barney suggesting they stop after the third big ambush in fairly quick succession, Gordon acquiesced to it. Earning a, “Wow, we actually get to stop to eat for once, it’s a damn miracle,” from Bubby.
And eat they did. Barney and other-Gordon had a whole pack of proper food they shared. All Black Mesa branded astronaut food but it beat vending machine snacks by miles. It was enough to get everyone more focused on eating than chatting for once, resulting in several minutes of almost quiet, a rarity in this group. Benrey didn’t eat, but he did seem content to just sit and watch, only making the occasional comment to other-Gordon.
“Why the fuck are you so big anyway?” other-Gordon eventually snapped at him.
“Just am. Why are you so small, huh?”
“I’m not small.”
“From his perspective you are pretty small, Gordon,” Coomer said as he lowered his now empty wrapper.
“Yeah and from the perspective of the universe, especially if we’re bringing the multiverse into it, he’s small. Relative size wasn’t what I was asking about. He was normal person sized before and now he’s giant. Why?”
“Something to do with Xen, I think,” Bubby answered as he shifted to look up at Benrey too. “’Cause he got this big when we got here.”
“So you’re another Xen alien then?” Barney asked.
Benrey shrugged. “I dunno, maybe.”
“How do you not know?” other-Gordon asked, mirroring Gordon’s thought almost exactly. It was nice to finally have someone with at least some of the same questions as him who could also ask them.
“Just don’t.” Alas, it seems they weren’t getting an answer though.
“Really, you don’t know? Or are you lying to be annoying?”
“I can’t lie, remember?”
Other-Gordon half sighed, half groaned. “Whatever, I don’t really care anyway.” A lie? Or was he just that upset with Benrey to not be curious about it? “The more important question is do you have to be that fucking big?”
Tommy cut in with, “Yeah. If you were smaller, you’d have an easier time hanging out with us again, right?”
“But being big is cool. You guys should try it sometime.”
“Yeah Gordon, you should try it sometime.” Coomer spoke as if he thought it were an actual option. Probably a joke but of all of them Gordon had the hardest time reading him.
“Sure, if I ever get the chance, I’ll try it. But that didn’t answer my question, do you have to be that big or can you shrink down to a more normal human size like you were before?” Other-Gordon waited for only half a beat before something seemed to occur to him and he quickly continued, leaning forward a little as he did so. “Because I bet you can’t. It’s probably too hard for you, huh? You’re too weak to be able to control whatever it is you’re doing that much.” Trying to goad Benrey into shrinking if it was possible and opening up an opportunity to mock him if he couldn’t. An obvious bait but given Benrey’s teasing of him it was deserved.
Benrey thought for a few seconds before reply. “’Bet’, huh? What’cha wanna bet?”
“Uh…” Other-Gordon’s fault for using the word ‘bet’. He should’ve known better. Tommy, sitting on his other side, whispered something to him that made his face scrunch up. “What? Why would I even have a Beyblade with me?”
Tommy sat back with a sigh. “I was hoping you would so uh… if he won, he could let me borrow it or maybe carry it for him. ‘Cause um, I miss mine and I’m still mad about the soldiers who said they’d give me one but didn’t.”
“Dude, if I had a Beyblade and you wanted it, I’d just give it to you.”
“Aw, thanks, Mr. Freeman. It’s the uh, thought that counts, right? I hope we get to go home soon.”
“Return to the bet idea, assholes,” Bubby cut in. “I wanna see one or both of you do something stupid.”
They’d all finished eating now so they should get a move on instead. But Gordon wouldn’t mind seeing one or both of them do something stupid too, especially since it was his alternate who’d started this particular interaction. So he stayed seated for now. Just another minute or two couldn’t hurt.
“How ‘bout a kiss,” Coomer suggested. “If Benrey proves he’s capable of returning to a normal person size, Gordon owes him a kiss. And if Benrey can’t then he has to forgive Gordon for not having his passport.”
“Deal,” other-Gordon and Benrey said at almost the same time.
In the following silence, Barney leaned in to whisper to Gordon. “These lot are kind strange, huh? Other-you told me ‘bout them but in person, it’s something else entirely.”
True, they were odd even in comparison to Gordon and Kleiner who were normally the weirdest people in any given room. It was interesting being normal for once. They were fun though. Gordon liked them. … It would’ve been nice if he could interact with them more the way other-Gordon was. Back and forth banter, instigating interactions. There was an edge to some of it because other-Gordon was still rightfully unhappy but he otherwise fit in well with them. He was like the straightman to their comedy antics. As a group, the five of them felt so much more complete with him present.
Gordon had been an outsider from the moment he’d started traveling with Benrey and was even more on the outside now. Barney’s presence alleviated that some but only a little. He could get up and leave and no one other than Barney would notice. Barney would also probably be the only one who would even care.
Shaking those thoughts off, he looked back up at Benrey. He’d closed his eyes in concentration, placing his hands in this lap almost as if he were meditating. He was shrinking. Slowly but surely he eventually returned to the size he’d been before coming into Xen.
“Fucking, damn it,” other-Gordon said as Benrey stood.
With what could only be described as an evil cackle, Benrey walked over to him. His motions looked stiff though as if he were physically uncomfortable. “Now you owe me a kiss, huh? Passportless boy.”
“Fuck you, man.”
“You gotta do it, Gordon,” Bubby said. “Betting he couldn’t do it was your dumb idea in the first place.”
“Yeah, Mr. Freeman,” Tommy added. “You said ‘deal’ when Mr. Coomer suggested it. So you have to.”
“Yeah, because I thought… whatever.” Other-Gordon stood. “I had to take the chance to get him to leave me alone, right?” He glared at Benrey, now almost a full head shorter than him.
“Kiss him, Gordon, kiss him.” Coomer stood, balling his hands into fists, eager to witness the chaos he’d sown.
“I’m waiting.” Hands behind his back, Benrey tilted his head up towards him. “Or are you a deal breaker as well as a…” He cut off as other-Gordon kissed him on the mouth.
It lasted several seconds. Sitting right in front of them, Gordon had a rather good view of it. Bubby stood to get a better look as well, his eyes wide under his glasses. “Didn’t expect that.”
Finally other-Gordon pulled back. “There. And you can’t say I skimped out on it either. So let’s just get a move on already, huh?” Pushing his glasses back up, he turned and walked away.
Benrey stared after him, blinking in surprise. He opened his mouth as if to say something but nothing came out. Seemingly he’d finally been stricken speechless. Interesting.
“Wow, that was quite something, huh?” Barney said with a chuckle as he stood too.
Gordon followed suit. Part of him was tempted to say something because it had indeed been quite something but they’d already wasted so much time and he was just letting them waste it. He really needed to stop doing that no matter how intrigued he was by his alternate. So he turned and jogged to catch up with him instead.
~
Thanks to all the practice Gordon had had while alone and now with so many fellow combatants helping – multiple of whom where superhuman, even if Benrey still didn’t participate much – it was far better than it would’ve been if this swap mix up hadn’t happened. Gordon was almost ready to thank the soldiers who’d ambushed him for making it happen and might actually do so if they ever showed up alive.
The hard fought for competency as well as the help primed Gordon to be cocky in battle. Which was further encouraged by other-Gordon’s, “How are you such a fucking badass?” after a particularly tense battle. Impressing others wasn’t a top priority but it did always feel good – even if it was with a skill he’d rather not have – and it being his alternate in particular, filled with him with an odd energy he wouldn’t have known how to convey if someone had asked him to.
With that being the case it was only a matter of time before he got a little too cocky. The HEV suit could protect him from a lot but the concentrated fire from multiple aliens while he stabbed his crowbar through the eye of one of the big beefy fellow a well aimed grenade had knocked over was a bit much. He felt like a badass doing it but as he wriggled the crowbar, covered in brain matter and eye juice, free the HEV suit’s speakers buzzed; out of power. Energy orbs drained it faster than the big guys’ homing insects or even bullets did.
He stumbled back towards cover but it was too late. As always it was like getting hit by a bolt of electricity. Without power, the metal of the suit still dampened the energy, making the pain of it passing through him less severe but more spread out. Already low on medi-gel, three was all it took to send him stumbling as his vision went dark at the edges.
Not dying yet though just hurt bad as blood welled up in his mouth – an unfortunately familiar taste, making him need to cough but he didn’t seem quite capable of doing so. … “User death imminent. Seek medical assistance.” Damn that voice even as it faded under the ringing in his ears. Right before entering this room would be a good place to reset to.
The intense pain and coppery taste of his blood lingered as a hand grabbed his shoulder and rolled him over. And then all three were gone and he was standing in the hallway, looking at the door that lead to another ambush as well as what looked like a handful of generators. Probably he should go right back in and be more careful and cautious this time but it had been a while since his last death so surely they could…
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” other-Gordon said, sounding quite upset. “What the fuck just happened?”
Gordon turned to face him. Did he not know?
“We were just in there.” He pointed to the door. “And, and you were dying, the HEV suit said it and everything. We were ambushed again. But now we’re… here and you’re fine, I think. Am I high or going crazy? Please tell me all that just really happened. Or maybe that it didn’t because what the fuck?”
He didn’t know. Gordon had been assuming his alternate not only had the same power but had experienced it. His team had been with him from the start though and thus in hindsight that wasn’t too surprising. It was possible he still had the power but he’d never died and thus didn’t know of it. He didn’t know what dying was like. The pain, fear, and suffering before the disorienting reset of everything being fine again. Physically anyway, the emotional trauma and memory of it remained.
With Gordon too stunned by this revelation, it fell to Tommy to respond. “He just kinda does that when he dies.”
“Kinda does what? What does that mean?”
“Time resets when this Gordon dies.” Coomer gestured to him. “He said he thinks it’s because of the Resonance Cascade.”
“Wait, what?” Barney looked between Coomer and Gordon. “Is that real?”
Gordon nodded.
“Holy shit that’s… wow. And you died? Just now, in there?”
Another nod.
“And now we’re back here,” other-Gordon said. “That’s… interesting, I guess. Horrifying too, kinda.” No ‘kinda’ about it. But he didn’t understand that because of course he didn’t. He didn’t know what it was like. He’d never died.
“Oh.” At some point when Gordon hadn’t been looking, Benrey had sized himself up again. He now barely fit in the hall. “Is that what’s been happening? I just thought we were all teleporting occasionally for some reason.” And had apparently been okay with it enough not to mention it. But given everything else about him, that kind of weirdness was basically to be expected.
Bubby glowered slightly as he crossed his arms. “So me and Barney are the only ones who don’t remember this shit?”
“I don’t remember clearly,” Coomer said. “I have only have haunches. Watch out not-Gordon! Don’t hang out in the open for too long during fire fights, it leaves you open to enemy fire. Try to find cover if you can. What killed him? Apparently enemy fire. A terribly tragic surprise.”
“Does Mr. Freeman reset time when he dies too?” Tommy cut in. “I mean like, they’re the same guy and if it’s from being in the room with the Resonance Cascade, he should, right?”
“We could test it,” Benrey suggested. “Might be fun, huh? Maybe it’ll bring your hand back too.”
Other-Gordon took a step back. “How about we don’t test it? Not purposefully anyway. If I fuck up and die we can test it then and only then.”
Coomer chimed in with, “But Gordon, don’t you want to know if you can’t die? Or I suppose, assuming it’s the same, you can die but you’ll come back. Don’t you want to know if you can transcend death?”
“And if you don’t come back,” Tommy said, “the other Mr. Freeman can reset to bring you back that way. So uh… really, it’s not that much of a risk at all.”
Other-Gordon grimaced but before he could say anything, Bubby cut in again. “Fuck it, I’ll test it.” He was already drawing his gun too, raising it towards other-Gordon.
Gordon was ready this time though and rushed forward and didn’t just push the gun down but deftly twisted it out of Bubby’s hand. At the same time Barney said, “Whoa, you can’t do that.” He’d reached for his own weapon but, Gordon having handled it, didn’t pull it.
“Were you really about to fucking shoot me?” Other-Gordon backed up a bit more, placing his back to the hall wall.
Bubby sputtered as he reached for his gun but Gordon pulled it away from him, pushing him back. “It was a joke. I wasn’t actually going to… Okay, maybe I was thinking about it. Not that I’d even fucking remember so there’d be no real point in it. So I wasn’t going to do it this time, I swear. I was gonna fire past him. Give that back, it’s mine.”
Gordon handed it to Barney instead. He was willing to forgive a lot and it wasn’t the first time he’d steered Bubby away from committing violence. But dying hurt and was scary and so, so awful. Regardless of whether or not other-Gordon came back through resetting time himself or from Gordon doing it, didn’t matter. He’d remember it either way. And even if Gordon was jealous of him for having never died, it wasn’t something he’d wish on anyone. He didn’t deserve to go through it.
“Bitch.”
Ignoring Bubby, Gordon turned and approached his alternate. His lifted his hands but… paused. What could he possibly say? How did he tell his other self how lucky he was to not know if or how the Resonance Cascade had affected him? Or how lucky he was for having companions. Even if some of them weren’t the greatest people around, it was better than being almost completely alone for the first half the journey, dying over and over again because Gordon was just a physicist who’d barely known how to use a gun at the start of this.
“I think you made him mad,” Coomer said. He was right. Gordon actually was a little bit mad about that ‘joke’.
Bubby mumbled an inaudible grumpy reply as otherwise the silence held. Barney stood to the side of Gordon and his alternate, ready to translate when/if he found the words. Should he even say anything? Admit to being jealous?
Finally it was other-Gordon who broke the silence. “Uh… thanks for that. Also, are you like okay, dude? Because you’re looking at me like… I don’t know. You wanna say something, maybe? But you’re not so… you good? Also you literally just died and that’s fucked up.”
No. He was wasn’t okay or good. Traveling with a chatty jovial group made for a good distraction and had lifted his spirits quite a bit in part because it had him dying less, making everything easier to bear but that didn’t make him okay. There wasn’t time to mope though. If he curled up and cried about it, not only would too much time be wasted, he wouldn’t be able to pull himself back together enough to keep going.
So instead of answering, he lifted his hands a bit higher and firmly planted them on other-Gordon’s shoulders. Hopefully it was reassuring and carried the unspoken promise that he wasn’t going to let other-Gordon suffer the pain of death if he could at all help it. He then turned and started for the door. There was no time to waste. They had to get a move.
“Damn, I thought you two were about to kiss,” Benrey said.
Rightfully ignoring him for once, Other-Gordon followed, putting himself on level with Gordon, Barney on his other side once. “Was that a ‘yes’, you’re okay, or ‘no’ you’re not okay?”
Gordon wasn’t going to answer. Barney did it for him. “I can’t really tell either. We could take a break if you need one.”
Before anyone else could say anything, the air around and above them crackled as hostile aliens began teleporting in. Gordon would be more careful this time, less caught up in the group’s high energy. Hopefully by the end of it, the question of whether or not he was okay would be forgotten.
~
Gordon’s burning curiosity about the aliens’ technology was somewhat satisfied every time they ran into a part of the facility that required the use of said technology for them to traverse. The Vonneguts of course did most of the work but Gordon and company were allowed to look and touch. It never lasted long but it was damn cool for how long it did. This machine was bigger than all of those and at the end of line. Presumably activating it would include another portal, taking them even closer to the tower.
Eager to see and forever not drawn to the idea of slowing down or stopping, Gordon wanted to go through right away. He wasn’t alone though and they’d been walking for so long. Long enough that even Gordon was feeling at the end of his rope. And thus, sadly, it was time to stop and sleep. Conveying that to the Vonneguts eager to push them onward was surprisingly not too difficult once Barney produced a pen and notepad to help communicate with via drawings.
They ended up in a secluded room that was most likely a spare storage space, judging based off the barrels stack in one corner that made up the only objects in the room. Not exactly comfortable but far enough removed to be somewhat safe should any balloon guys teleport in to mind control the Vonneguts. Only one entrance also meant it was defensible should such an attack occur. Getting teleported in on directly was still a concern of course but Gordon was going to make sure they set a proper watch this time.
Benrey was still with the group. By far the longest he’d stuck around for. He’d even shrunk down to a normal person size for the first time since their earlier rest. Meaning he could sit with them as they settled in their loose circle. Other-Gordon mumbled a mostly inaudible complaint because Benrey of course chose to sit next to him, the reason he did it probably.
“Hey, uh, what happened to you hand? How’s it still missing, huh?” It was the third time Benrey had bought the hand up. Did he really think it was going to grow back? Probably, right? He’d assumed Gordon’s ‘missing hand’ had grown back before they’d figured out the swap and hadn’t seemed to think that was particularly odd. Maybe whatever he was grew back lost limbs and no on had told him that that’s not how it worked for humans.
Other-Gordon groaned again. “No, we’re not having this conversation again! Shut up.”
“Instead,” Tommy said, “we should talk about um… this place. I’m not sure how much of it is up to OSHA regulation standards. Some of it looks like it might be but it’s all so alien and stuff so… I don’t know. It’s hard to tell. What do you guys thinks?” What an odd thing to think about.
“I’m pretty sure OSHA doesn’t operates in Xen,” Bubby said.
“They might,” Coomer replied. “Or they might have their own OSHA with different regulations. So the question is ‘are they approved by alien OSHA?’ In which case what are their regulations?”
And thus while they had their pre-bed snack – it hadn’t quite long enough for this to be another meal – the three of them discussed the hypothetical alien OSHA. Gordon only half paid attention to it. Much more pressing on his mind was that tomorrow, hopefully, they would be fighting the thing sending the aliens to kill them. With infinite retries on their side, they were guaranteed to win. How hard it was going to be though? How many times would Gordon die? Blessedly he wasn’t alone. If he’d been alone for this… who even knows how much worse it would’ve been?
This swap thing was the best thing that could’ve happened to him. Other-Gordon had been with his friends from the start of the disaster. Lucky him. Even with the betrayal and cut off hand, Gordon would’ve preferred his situation. Did he even know how good he had it? Gordon would have to try to keep him safe from figuring it out.
Eventually the conversation wound down as it was decided by Tommy that the alien OSHA, “probably exists and approves of this facility. It makes sense, right? If they didn’t approve, this place would be shut down by now and it’s not. So they’re good to go.”
“Now,” Bubby said, “the next question is do they have an alien Wikipedia?”
Coomer perked up to answer but was cut off by other-Gordon’s, “Nope, we can discuss the possibility for alien Wikipedia tomorrow. It’s bedtime. Before that though,” he scooted over a little so that he was facing Gordon instead of sitting next to him, “we gotta talk. ‘Cause you’re me, you know?”
Gordon did know. While walking they hadn’t had many chances to discuss that, especially since needing Barney to translate made it more difficult in general. The frequent interruptions to kill aliens made it even harder. They needed sleep but a quick chat beforehand couldn’t hurt, could it? So… “Okay. Let’s talk.”
“He’s cool with it,” Barney relayed as he shifted a bit over too.
Coomer stood walked over to looked down at them. “Gordon, I want a bedtime story.”
Other-Gordon sighed. “Okay, sure. Let’s figure out a watch schedule first, then I’ll tell you a bedtime story and then me and other-me will finally have a proper chat.”

New Year Memories ☆ Teammates in Action
summary: after a disappointing performance in the final group game, Gabe checks up on Jamie
authors note: this was a blurb because someone asked for some cute gabe and jamie content but then this got to over 1k and that aint a blurb no more.
Jamie had been hit in their final group stage game. It was sore as she was pushed against the board at full speed and after the refs swore there was nothing the other player could do as they were already at full speed by the time Jamie was close to the board making it virtually impossible to slow down.
It frustrated her how the coaches agreed it was best to have her sit for the rest of the game as it seemed that she was being targeted by the other team more than her teammates. Thankfully for her she didn’t have any injuries and was going to be ready for the QF game. But still that didn’t make her feel any better about what had happened.
Nobody was surprised when she got back to the hotel and just straight to her room. It was a normal thing to do when she wasn’t happy with her performance as she would shut everyone out. But this time Gabe wasn’t having it “I’ll be back.” He announced as he made his way over to the elevator “you want us to be here with an ice pack for when she kicks your ass out?” Jamie never listened to anyone when she got in this mood so all of the guys from BC knew to leave her alone.
Gabe flipped the boys off as he pressed the number for the floor the team was on. He practically sped to her and he couldn’t help but laugh as he could hear the soft sounds of the Lion King playing “J!” Gabe knocked on her door as he was itching to see her.
There was silence for a few moments until the door opened “if you’re here to yell at me you can fuck off.” Jamie warned as she opened the door letting him see her “wanted to check on you.” He shook his head as he made his way into her room “you know I know you’re lying.” Gabe mumbled grabbing her hands so that he could finally force her to look at him.
It took her a moment but she couldn’t help it as she sniffled “why was I punished for them being rough?” Jamie sniffled as the guys usually handled themselves really well when they got hit “coaches just care about you. Gabe had to admit that he was also struggling to keep his cool as Jamie went down every few minutes as the hits only got harder “I handle it myself!” At this point tears were rolling down her cheeks as she felt like an idiot for caring.
Gabe didn’t know what made him do it but he wrapped his arms around her not giving her a second more to think as he hugged her. Jamie at first frozen because she hadn’t been like this before with Gabe like ever. But as his hand rubbed her back she did loosen her poster as she grew more comfortable with him “you shouldn’t have to handle it alone.” Now as she grew calmer Gabe knew he could talk to her.
Jamie looked up at him as she smiled “this is stupid.” She admitted as she shook her head “no it wasn’t.” He sat on her bed as he motioned her to join him “what can I do for you?” Gabe didn’t know if it was the fact that he knew Gavin wasn’t with her or what but he was glad that he was the one with her.
The girl chewed at the inside of her cheek “want to finish the movie with me?” Gabe was quiet as he smiled not being used to seeing her in a vulnerable state like this “just figured it could be nice to have some company.” Jamie rambled as her cheeks turned red making him laugh “c’mere.” Gabe shifted up her bed making her follow his lead.
Gabe patted his chest as he allowed her to lay there as her laptop sat on his lower torso “didn’t know you could be nice Perreault.” Jamie teased as she rested her head on his chest making him scoff.
He poked her rib cage making Jamie squeal as she squirmed against him “shush the movie is on.” His words made her laugh as she nodded going quiet as she listened to him.
Hours had passed and Gabe didn’t realise that he had fallen asleep when it was dark outside. His phone vibrated against his pocket making him groan. It was Lillian’s contact that illuminated his screen “where is my best friend?” Lillian was unimpressed as Jamie hadn’t responded to any of her texts “Cutter said you were with her so don’t try to lie to me.” She warned not giving Gabe the chance to lie.
It made him soft laugh as he saw Jamie nuzzle her head against his chest “she is just sleeping.” Gabe explained as he looked down to where Jamie was “well wake her up!” Ava was heard from behind her as the new year was minutes away and the girls were downstairs with their boyfriends ready for the fireworks show.
Gabe nodded as he sighed “I’ll bring her down in a second.” He nodded trying to slide out of her grip as he hung up “J?” His voice was soft as he brushed her hair out of her face “no.” Jamie complained as she was fast asleep and was comfortable against him “the girls want you downstairs for the fireworks.” Gabe forgot how much Jamie truly hated being woken up, which was why it was his favourite thing to do when she was sleeping on the bus.
Gabe groaned as he couldn’t stop “please?” He continued hitting her shoulder until she finally woke up “what?” Jamie pouted as she sent him a glare still not impressed “the girls want to celebrate the new year with you.” Gabe explained as he watched her yawn “wait I’ve got to get ready for it.” Jamie grumbled as she got up.
He knew he was in a losing battle when she ran into the bathroom trying to fix her hair. Out of the five minutes that she had available to her, Jamie used four of them “hurry up J!” Gabe complained as he opened the door to her balcony realising that the countdown had begun “I’m here.” Jamie’s eyes lit up as she saw the lights below them as she smiled seeing the group “we won’t make it down there in time.” The boy pointed out as he was planning on just watching the countdown but as they got to “one.” Jamie tilted his head towards her as she smiled “Happy New Year Gabe.” Her voice was soft as she kissed him.
For the first time in their lives that kiss was soft and delicate as though they were struggling to not get enough of each other "Happy New Year to you too Jaime." Gabe dragged his thumb over her chin as he smiled pecking her lips once more as neither one of them realised just how much time had gone by "you better not have killed her Gabe I want my friend back!" Ava's groan came from the door making the duo pull away.
Gabe frowned as he looked at Jamie "back to hating me?" He asked as they had the agreement that none of their friends were allowed to learn about this "maybe I'll be nice this year and go easy on ya."

Buddie Moodboard - Criminal Minds AU
So yeah, I've started rewatching that show. And of course, Buddie jumped right back into my face and wouldn't let go until I moodboarded this. So... the moodboards have won yet again. Anyway, hope you enjoy. Cheers!
Looking back, Eddie Diaz never thought he'd join the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. After his time in the war, he took a long time, figuring out where to fit in, what to do with his life now that he is out of the military. So no, becoming an FBI agent, moving to Los Angeles to join the BAU sub-branch there, as a single dad, and to dive into dangerous situations on the daily is not the first choice that comes to mind. Less so if you asked his parents.
But there is only looking forward, so Eddie is taking his chances with the team under the lead of Special Agent Robert "Bobby" Nash. While everyone on the team is undoubtedly capable and undeniably nice to him upon his first day, one of the agents just returned from some time off seems less than pleased. In his opinion, they don't need anyone else on the team.
It doesn't take a profiler to figure out that the guy's got the heart in the right place, just a bit afraid of change, of people leaving – and someone allergic to being called by his first name. Though after their first together, Eddie and Buck don't just find a common ground, it doesn't take them long to develop a strong friendship.
One of the odd things about being surrounded by profilers is that it becomes all the harder to keep your private life private. Not only do you spend so many hours together, but you are surrounded by people whose job it is to figure other people out. So it's hardly surprising to anyone that each of the team has their very personal demons haunting them: Be it having lost loved ones to unsubs they didn't catch in time, or having found themselves in an unsub's hands and be saved by people of just that profession.
Buck also has his special reasons for being there. And as Eddie finds out early on, this job is so much more to him than a job is to most other people. He considers it his true purpose, more so because he feels like he owes it to Bobby that he ever got there. He used to be a regular police officer who just "tagged along", until Bobby consulted on a murder that happened in the town he was stationed at. Bobby picked up on Buck's innate talent to get inside an unsub's head and his dedication to the cause. Or as Bobby puts it:
"You can teach crafts and skills. But you can't teach talent and attitude. And Buck's always had both of these things."
So Bobby gave him his card, told him to try out for the BAU's special program. And Buck did. While it's taken a lot of effort, he eventually managed to join the team. Which is why he is not only protective of his friends at the BAU, for him, this job is his life. And he will defend that till last.
Buck's life is turned upside-down more than once when his sister Maddie steps back into his life. A few years back, he wouldn't have noticed that something is off, but as a profiler, he knows. He is no longer the kid stuck in a loveless home, believing every soothing word his sister says to keep him out of harm's way. This time, he vows to himself, he will protect her from her abusive husband, he will make her stay. So he helps her land a job at the FBI, filling the empty space his ex Abby left.
Things seem to be moving all the right directions once Maddie breaks out of her shell and dares to fall in love again. Chimney and her are as happy as they can be. That is, until Doug comes back, nearly kills Chimney, and abducts Maddie. The team races to save her, which, thankfully, they manage.
Though this is far from the only crisis the team has to face. One particular event changes everything for Buck and Eddie. After Eddie nearly dies at the hands of a sniper, nothing is as it was between them. Buck doesn't just feel like he failed his best friend. He feels like the feelings he's been trying to put off, those romantic feelings for Eddie that have no space in their world together, are shattered like glass, too.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Eddie quits the BAU. First for his son's sake. Later on, actually for his own. Eddie finally has to reckon with his past traumas, all the things he pushed down over the years. And he can't do that while working a job that forces him into swallowing it all down.
Though Eddie misses his job. He misses the team. He misses having Buck's back. Sure, he is around, but it's not the same as it used to. To top it all, Buck seems to be withdrawing more and more from them for reasons Eddie can't yet fathom. Eddie is hesitant about returning, though, fearing that Christopher won't take it well. After all, he nearly lost him once, and the fear of losing his father is all too painful and all too real in the line of work they do.
The whole world stops turning for Eddie one evening, though. Because he has to watch footage of Buck bleeding out on a street, held hostage by a kid seeking revenge on Bobby, with a suicide belt on and the trigger in his hand. It is then that Eddie decides to follow his heart and join the team as they race to rescue Buck...

For the fics you would never ever write:
1 - It's 1890 and Sherlock and Watson are investigating a murder in an opium den. The criminal left no trace, like a ghost. The man Sherlock imagines to have suspicious mannerisms is actually (a nightmare) a Chinese investigator authorized by British immigration, Zhao Yunlan. A ghost is, in fact, a matter of time.
2 - Gandalf saw many different creatures in his long, long existence. What he had yet to see were the warriors of the East, those who carried the shield of the Iron Triangle and knew the words and prophecies of the Blue Wizards.
3 - When he joined the Jedi Order, Shen Wei had many things on his mind. It wasn't part of them: teaming up with Zhao Yunlan, a former captain of the Republic guard, to chase tomb raiders from planet to planet and try to understand what clues these would-be mercenaries and their leader, Wu Xie, were finding in the tombs and where could these clues lead - forces to destroy or protect the galaxy.
I'm gonna go with no. 3:
Guo Changcheng was lost. This, for him, was by no means a rare or unusual state of being but this time at least he had a fairly understandable excuse. Yesterday he signed up for what was promised to be a boring clerk's job on a long-haul cargo ship and today he was hurtling through space on board of of the patrol-ship Guardian, tracking a trio of notorious grave-robbers.
In the company of a Jedi Knight.
Why catching a group of antiques thieves required the presence of an actual, real-life Jedi Knight was beyond Guo Changcheng, but he would have chucked himself out the airlock before daring to ask, so he did the next best thing: trying to piece the mission together by evesdropping.
What he got so far was that there were several clans specialised in tomb raiding, and that they poked at something that may well just make the Galaxy fold in on itself. The trio they were tracking way somehow connected to this Thing and maybe the Force, but Guo Changcheng was still unclear of the latter.
He was about to summon up a years worth of extra courage and actually ask something, but thankfully one of the crew-mates voiced the same question before he could.
'What's all this to do with the Force though? Isn't that just the business of the Jedi?'
The ship's captain - a Human named Zhao Yunlan - shrugged in response.
'Nope. Loads of different people meddle with the Force, the Jedi are just the most prominent and well-organised. There's the Sith for starters, though you don't really hear about them these days, 'cause they nearly backstabbed themselves into extinction.'
He took a long drag of his kaff and went on:
'And then there's whatever these grave-robber clans have going on. For some, the entire clan is Force-sensitive, sometimes it's just individuals. Zhang, Wang, some of the Qi and maybe the Wu... This group we're after has two of them. The leader is low-key Force-sensitive, but not trained, but their swordsman... Ah well, never mind him, unless we absolutely must dispatch of the whole trio we shouldn't mess with him anyway.'
Guo Changcheng shuddered and gulped, shooting a furtive glance at the hooded silhouette of their Jedi.
'Is he... this swordsman... is he like Master Shen?'
Zhao Yunlan snorted and scoffed as the ship exited light-speed and a foreign planet swam into view.
'Nah. None of these people have anything on Shen Wei in one-on-one combat. It's just that according to past evidence hurting the little guy means you've chosen death by deranged antiques merchant. Sure it might take him a decade to get to you, but he will, and your end will be as messy as it is inevitable.'

Jaunce arc x cat!reader headcanons
Alright and thank you for telling me the prompt as I would have liked to do this as it’s rwby and rwby is one of my favorite fandoms! 😁 and I didn’t want to have to delete your requests
Warning: noob author, female reader, ooc (out of characters), angst? Maybe, and possibly others.
Characters: jaune arc
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’re the younger sister of Blake belladonna, you had been with her most of the time as she’s basically all you knew besides you mother and father though she made sure you didn’t join the white fang once Adam came into control and she was soon aware about his goals and intentions. You made it to beacon about the time future team rwby though you had to be put on solo until further notice as the others were already on a team and with the sudden un even amount of students being there for a four squad team for you, though you did become an honorary member to both team rwby and team jnpr so you got to be with you sister and soon to be crush.
You and your sister share the opposite of cat features with Blake having ears that she hides with a bow and you having a tail that you hide ion your top/pants, as the Faunus discrimination is still going on and both of you don’t want to go though that in case some of the people wanted to tease you tow or others for it.
You and jaune had a good friendship though you soon realize that he probably wouldn’t want to be with a Faunus sop you just tried to be his friend even though you soon came to realize you developed feeling for the sweet boy.
Though sadly it seems like he has eyes on weiss then afterwards Pyrrha even though you’re the one to have spend most of the time with him and helping him improve, you go to Blake for any sisterly advise she might how.
Though she only said that if he doesn’t love you for al the help you give him then maybe he doesn’t deserve your help if he can. See who is the one putting the effort of helping and getting to know him more than cause he’s the team leader.
(Some things between Pyrrha and jaune won’t happen, sorry if you wanted something from tthat.)
It wasn’t until the attack on Nora and rens home town when Tyrian had poisoned you and qrow did he realized that he loves you and it wasn’t Pyrrha that did all those things for him but you, though he doesn’t know if you were doing that because you two were friends or was it more than that so he did the only thing he could think of at the moment which was act like he and you were only friends.
Instead of Weiss it was you that got injured and he thought he lost you so he finally confessed as he wanted you to know before you possibly died but thankfully because of him you survived and was able to tell him you feel the same as he did. His sister that you guys had soon met after some more things (that i can’t remember as it’s been a while since i seen the season.) happened was both happy and sad that her little brother is all grown up and has a girlfriend.
(A/n: i hope you like what i could do as i didn’t really know how to lead it up to season 6 plus i sadly couldn’t think of anything else from what i got from what little you gave me with the prompt. Hope y’all have a wonderful day/evening/night!!!)
"No, go left! Sailor Venus take the route towards the central and - no, wait! Take a right!"
"WHICH IS IT!?" came the roaring voice of Sailor Venus over the comm. system.
Azula blew some air out and rubbed her face. She splat a hand on the monitor and gazed at the screen again. Street security cameras allowed her to see where the blonde Sailor Scout was headed - along with the others - but Azula was still having trouble locating the precise location they were searching for. Thankfully, Luna hopped onto the stool beside hers and Artemis took the other on her left. The two cats started directing Sailor Venus towards their assumed location.
"Thanks guys," Azula said to the two cats afterwards. "I'm a bit...under stress…" Her blue eyes gazed over the multiple tabs opened on the computer. Some belonged to Koan, the Black Moon Clan, Chibiusa, Senka, Reign...it was way too much for one person.
"Don't worry, we're a team after all," Artemis reminded.
"Well this team needs to find our newest member who seems hell bent on dominating animals everywhere," Azula leaned back in her chair.
Sailor Siren was definitely awake and causing havoc in her disoriented state. They hadn't been able to capture her yet but since she had practically every animal worshiping the ground she walked on, Azula theorized by finding where the animals were disappearing to they would then find Sailor Siren.
"Azula, we're here, but there's nothing," Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury reported from one location across the city.
"It's just business as usual," Sailor Mars added.
Azula zoomed in on their location and confirmed this was the case. Animals were still freaking out but people were going on about their business like nothing.
"Azula," Sailor Jupiter reported in, "we've got the same thing over here with us. Are you sure this is the place?"
Once more, Azula set to work. "Yeah, it's where the traces were leading to. Hold on, let me—"
"Azula!" Sailor Hemera called in.
"What!?" Azula snapped under the pressure.
Sailor Hemera snorted. "Cracking under the pressure already?" Azula groaned and muttered under her breath but otherwise continued to locate them.
Sailor Hemera was crouched over a rooftop overlooking the mall. Her sister, Sailor Asteria joined her.
"Don't mess with my human," Sailor Asteria scolded lightly.
"What?" Hemera gave her a weirded look.
Asteria faced the city, completely calm. "I adopted her. She's my human pet—"
"No I am not!" Azula shouted through their comms., absolutely offended with what she was hearing. "I am not your human pet! Would you quit saying that!?"
A smirk spread across Sailor Asteria's lips hearing Azula ramble on about how offensive it was to be called someone's pet. Sailor Hemera gave her a look. "You're awful," she couldn't help chuckle.
"Guys!" Azula suddenly called, serious now. "An unidentified figure has been spotted just a corner from where Sailor Asteria and Sailor Hemera are at. She's causing quite the havoc…"
Sailor Hemera straightened and listened up for any strange noises. Sure enough, there were shrill screams of humans. "Oh Sailor Siren…"
The two Shadow Scouts ran towards the noises and were of course the first to get there.
A tall, blonde haired girl was laughing in the air as dozens of pigeons pecked at numerous people. "I can make it all stop, petty humans, so long as you kindly direct me to Princess Reign."
"The same story, I see," they heard Azula through the comms. "She's radiating a lot of energy just like you did, Asteria."
Both Shadow sisters gazed at their third comrade from a rooftop. Sailor Siren was by the far the tallest of the four Shadow Scouts. Her blonde curly hair swooshed in the air. There was no recognition of herself within her light blue eyes. But for her comrades, she remained the same youthful beauty she had been back then; Sailor Siren lived up to her mythological name.
"Siren…" Sailor Asteria cautiously stepped towards Sailor Siren, her hands making a gesture she was no enemy. "It's us," she nodded to Sailor Hemera just a step behind, "We're your comrade sisters, remember?" Sailor Siren's eyes flickered from one Shadow Scout to the next. "I know you're confused but you have to calm down. You're overflowing with power and you can get hurt."
From the base, Azula watched intently. "Hm, that's the first time she speaks with actual kindness," she murmured to the cats with her.
"I heard that," Asteria scolded.
Sailor Siren balled her fists on her sides. "If you were truly my comrades you would have already scoured this planet for Princess Reign! There would be no human left in existence! It's their fault after all!"
"Siren, please," Sailor Hemera begged. "Let us take care of you right now."
"Ha! I am going to search every last corner of this planet for Princess Reign! And if I have to I will ask help from Obscurius!" Sailor Siren held her arms to her sides. "Their gifts will help me find the Princess!"
From the base, Azula reacted to those words. "What kind of people are Obscurians?" she looked at Luna but the purple cat had no idea either.
In the streets, Sailor Siren still could not be coerced. She was throwing punches at Sailor Asteria who only deflected them with her own fists.
"Sailor Siren!" Sailor Hemera shouted and, at the same time, flung forwards her golden boomerang.
Sailor Siren growled when the boomerang smacked her on her forehead. Sailor Asteria whirled around, furious for Hemera's move. "What the hell was that for!?"
"She was about to punch you!"
Sailor Siren used the sisters' quarrel to introduce her own attack. She began to whistle a soft, rhythmic tune that froze both sisters in their spots.
Azula squinted her eyes at the screen. "What are those two doing?"
The two Shadow sisters were beginning to fight against each other. They threw punches, dodges, kicks, everything but their attacks.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me!" Azula groaned and reached for the comms. "She's living up to her Siren name," she mumbled just as she got in contact with the other Scouts. "Girls! We've got a situation! Sailor Siren is hypnotizing Sailor Asteria and Hemera into fighting against each other. They could seriously hurt each other!"
Sailor Venus arrived first and threw her love chain to capture Sailor Hemera. Sailor Jupiter grabbed Sailor Asteria back and kept her still.
"Use the sedatives!" Azula shouted.
Sailor Mars whipped out her sedative but Sailor Siren landed in front of her and kicked it out of her hand. Before Sailor Mars bad the chance to react properly, Siren backhanded her to the ground.
"Sailor Siren, we're your friends!" Sailor Mercury attempted to reason with her.
"I don't have friends anymore!" Sailor Siren roared and went to punch her next. "I only want to find Princess Reign!"
"Well you're not going to do it that way!" Sailor Mars rubbed at her chin as she got up. "Burning Mandala!"
Sailor Siren backed from Sailor Mercury and had to duck to avoid the fire. Slowly, Sailor Asteria and Hemera came out of the trance Sailor Siren put them in.
"We will not stop until you come with us!" Sailor Venus warned.
Sailor Siren backed a step, one hand towards them. "I will find Reign." Sailor Mars prepared another attack with her paper slips, something Siren picked up on. "Don't get in my way! Sonic Scream!" Sailor Siren then released a high pitched scream that echoed in every corner of the street. Everyone collapsed to their knees, hands clutching ears to drown out the awful noise in the air.
Even Azula had to take measures by turning off audio to avoid bleeding in the ears. Sailor Siren proved to be a deadly opponent.
Five sedatives were dropped on a circular table in the Moon base following a bumpy match.
"What even is Sailor Siren?" Azula rubbed a finger in her left ear as if Sailor Siren was still screaming. "How could she possibly be a good Sailor Scout?"
Asteria was quiet and serious. She wasn't too pleased their friend had ran off but even she knew it wasn't their fault. "Sailor Siren was a deadly Scout back in our days. Her songs hypnotized those in her way and she could make them do just about anything. But nothing was more powerful than her Sonic Scream."
"Was this just with humans or with animals?" Minako inquired.
"Back then it was just humans."
"The excess power is probably letting her songs reach animals for the moment," Ami theorized. "This is more dangerous."
"I can't believe Shadow housed this sort of Scout," Rei mumbled under her breath. She could still feel echoes of pain jabbing at her chin from the backhand Sailor Siren had given her earlier.
"Our powers do not make us evil," Meroko frowned. "Sailor Siren was a kind Scout. Her sole purpose was to make sure people in Shadow never harmed Reign."
"Look, whatever she did then does not matter right now," Makoto interrupted the small lecture. "She's out there putting people in danger and we need to stop her."
"But how do we sedate her if we can't get near her?" Minako huffed from her spot. "One song and we're all going to fight each other."
Azula tilted her head in thought, her finger tapping against her chin. "What if we create devices to block out her voice?" Everyone in the room turned to her for a better explanation. Azula uncrossed her arms and went on to elaborate. "We send in only a few of you guys to meet with Siren, but we send you with devices equipped to block out her soundwaves. That way, one of you could use the sedative and put her down."
"Could we really do that?" Makoto looked unsure of it but Ami seemed more inclined with the idea.
"I think we can," the blue-haired girl nodded. "There's already devices like that in regular stores. All we would have to do is amplify the effects."
"We can do that, no problem," Azula grinned.
"Alright, so we have the new plan. Who's going to inform Usagi?" Meroko asked but Asteria huffed.
"You mean little miss Moon Princess who's overly irresponsible she couldn't even come to help us today?"
Azula rolled her eyes at the girl. "Calm down Star Queen. Usagi got roped into babysitting Chibiusa. She couldn't very well leave the little girl on her own right? Now that would be irresponsible."
Asteria huffed again. "And the Prince?"
"Him...I have no idea."
~0~
Have a safe return, Sailor Hemera,' Princess Reign waved goodbye to her sunny Scout. Sailor Hemera gave her traditional bow before exiting the Earth palace and headed back for the Shadow Kingdom.
Beside Reign, Endymion appeared with a studious expression. "It's odd for Sailor Hemera to visit the kingdom."
"Well, Asteria is on guard right now and I suppose mother sent Hemera to see how I was doing."
"And to see if I was keeping my word in protecting you."
A light smile slipped through Reign's face, not that Endymion would see due to the enchantment on Reign. "I could not lie about that. My mother knows I am a danger to myself and the world. She has to be sure that I am guarded at all times."
"And yet, even then, you refuse to have my Generals accompany you."
Reign sighed and leaned over the balcony to stare up at the shiny Moon in the dark sky. "I wish to be free, Endymion. You granted me a little bit of it. Please don't take it away from me."
"I only allow it because you're within the palace. But you know that if you were to ever want to leave the palace you would need to be accompanied."
"Me? Leave? Never," Reign said with utter regret. "It is my fate to stay locked away forever. Even when the world looks so beautiful…"
Endymion assumed she was watching the Moon. She often expressed (to him and Serenity) wishes of seeing the Moon Kingdom, or just about any other kingdom. "Maybe one day…"
Reign shook her head. "Mother would never allow it. My existence must always remain a secret. Even my sister planet probably doesn't know about me."
"Obscurius?" Endymion recalled the planet similar to Shadow.
"Mhm. Their people are the only people who can match Shadow's gifts and abilities. I know they have a royal line, rules and laws...but I think they are free unlike my people. It's my fault, like always."
Reign expressed herself with utter sadness. Endymion hated that he could not do anything to help his friend. She didn't deserve to live the way she did: feeling like a burden.
Mamoru blinked out of his memory trance. He looked down at the mug of coffee he'd been nursing. He didn't even realize at what moment he had began to remember. The images just came to him without warning. But with each new memory, he felt like he began to know Reign even more. The sense of friendship was strong, along with lingering feelings of pity and sorrow for the girl. It was clear that Reign never got to leave Earth and travel.
But he was curious about her abilities. All day he'd been getting blips of memories concerning Reign and her abilities. Mamoru knew of her healing abilities, agility and illusion tricks, but he wanted to know more. He was sure Reign confided in him about those abilities, he just needed to remember more.
"Reign, please, talk to me…" Mamoru whispered, for some reason believing this would help him. He couldn't explain it but he felt like Reign was close to him. Something within made him sure of it.
Usagi thought she was loud up until she met Chibiusa. The girl screamed and yelped at least twice as loud as she would. It was why the knocks on her front door took at least five minutes to get noticed. By the time Usagi went to answer, Azula was mad with impatience.
"Do I need to get a bullhorn or something to get your attention?" the red-haired girl demanded with a frantic tapping shoe.
Usagi sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck. "Sorry, Azula. Chibiusa is just too loud!"
Hearing her name, Chibiusa poked her head out from the living room. "I am not loud! You're — hi Azula!" she beamed at the sight.
Azula gave a small wave with her free hand. "Hey, Usa."
Chibiusa beamed at the new nickname. "You can call me that all you like!"
Usagi growled at the girl for her uber kindness at Azula. Chibiusa always yelled at her for the littlest of things.
"Usagi, I came to talk," Azula pulled the blonde from her thoughts. She motioned to the notebook in her hand, indicating to Usagi it was theory time.
Usagi brought Azula into her living room and warned Chibiusa to stay out of it. The pink-haired girl of course huffed and muttered a few words here and there but ultimately entertained herself with some television in the room. Her LunaP ball mildly bounced beside her on the couch.
Meanwhile, Azula and Usagi sat on the ground with a coffee table between them. Azula had opened her journal which was full of notes and diagrams. Usagi had to rub her eyes from so much color.
"Is that a family tree?" she pointed at a purple square encasing the name 'Reign'.
"Mhm," Azula nodded. "I wanted to map out the Royal Shadow line."
Usagi saw 'Queen Nyx' written inside another purple box with a line going down to Reign. Next to Queen Nyx was another square, presumably Reign's father, but was intentionally left blank.
"So the Royal Shadow Line has a very long lifespan," Azula remarked. She dragged her finger down the Queen's and princess's names and onto the four Shadow Sailor Scouts. "These people lived for centuries but I suppose the oldest was Queen Nyx. Though since there's no real truth of her ending we can only presume she's actually dead."
Usagi squeaked at the prospect. "You think the Shadow Queen still lives?"
Azula gave a small shrug. "Maybe. Only Sailor Circe knows what truly happened to the Shadow people, after all."
"I don't know…" Usagi said quietly. "It's already a wonder of how Reign survived…"
"Well, that's because your other mother knew Reign needed to exist in order for the Shadow Dominion Gates to remain closed. She reincarnated Reign for safety." Azula passed the next page of her notebook to reveal notes on the previous Queen Serenity and Queen Nyx. "Which means that Queen Nyx had to have held some communication with Serenity. I also believe Queen Nyx communicated with Obscurius, the sister planet of Shadow."
Usagi furrowed her brows. "But Meroko said that planet was destroyed."
"Doesn't mean they couldn't build a new one. That's what I came to talk to you about, actually."
"What?"
Azula passed the next page, and at the top of the first page was 'OBSCURIUS' written in black. She pointed a finger at the name. "Sailor Siren mentioned this planet. She mentioned their people and their gifts. She said they could help find Reign. Usagi, you wouldn't happen to remember anything of this planet?"
Usagi blinked out of surprise but she ultimately thought about it. Her memories of Reign were still scarce. She knew Mamoru remembered far more than her but perhaps she did know something about Obscurius.
From the couch, Chibiusa pretended to be watching the television but she was way too listening in on the conversation. She didn't know they were barely looking into Obscurius. Mommy said never to divulge information, she remembered. Timelines are sacred, she told herself.
"I'm only thinking that maybe finding this planet, their people, would be key to finding Reign," Azula shared her thoughts. "It's obvious they still live today."
Chibiusa began biting her lip to keep quiet. They're making it too hard for me...
"But how?" Usagi asked. "We already have enough people to search for and that hasn't been easy."
Azula sighed. "Yeah, I know. This is stupid. Sorry." She closed her notebook and frowned. "I don't have powers so I like to think myself useful by making all these notes and theories."
"And they're great!" Usagi didn't hesitate to exclaim. "You're amazing at this. You give us new ideas."
"Just not the one I had about letting humans have their Crystals taken, huh?"
Usagi sheepishly smiled. "All your other ideas are amazing."
Azula laughed. "Fine. I'll take the compliment." She began to get up from the floor and gathering her things. "I have to go. Ami and I are making devices to help us fight Sailor Siren."
Usagi was in the dark about the new plan, Azula remembered then. "Did I forget to mention? Sailor Siren has a killer voice, literally. Girl can scream and hypnotize people. She had Sailor Asteria and Sailor Hemera fighting each other. It's actually less hilarious than one would think."
Usagi blinked. "What!?"
"Ami and I are going to make devices that will allow the girls to drown out Sailor Siren's voice. That way we can sedate her and bring her in."
"Sounds good. I'm in," Usagi stood up but Azula refused it.
"Are you kidding me? The last thing we need is a rogue Sailor Moon on us. It's better if you stay out of this one, Usagi. Trust me."
"But…" Usagi bit her lip, nervous of the idea.
Azula put a hand on Usagi's shoulder. "Believe me, it's better this way. Rei will come over here later today just to make sure you're protected."
"But what about the others—"
"They will be fine," Azula assured. "We'll keep monitoring them from the base. But seriously, please, stay in doors. You too Chibiusa."
Chibiusa pretended to come out of her television moment. "What?"
"There's going to be a new Sailor Scout in the air today and it's better if you stay in here with Usagi."
Chibiusa nodded her head obediently, once again causing Usagi to growl. All day it had been a battle just to get Chibiusa to clean her room. Maybe Azula should take care of her, she thought. No point in making Azula suffer, she later added with a smirk.
~0~
On her way to the base, Asteria found Azula buying a milkshake in the café shop. Of course unable to resist, Asteria walked in to join her. "I thought you were supposed to be in the base already?" the platinum blonde inquired.
"I needed to replenish my strength," Azula responded.
"Humans require more than sugar, no?"
Azula rolled her eyes and thanked Unazuki for giving her the milkshake. Just as she turned, Asteria noticed the notebook Azula was cradling in her free arm.
"Oh, what's that!?" Asteria plucked the notebook from Azula's hands, ignoring the protests of the redhead.
"Give that back!"
Asteria did no such thing. She headed for a circle table and took a seat to better read the notebook. With a roll of her eyes, Azula followed.
Asteria had already found the profile on her by the time Azula joined her. "You're good at storing information."
"Thanks?" Azula dumbly responded with. With Asteria she could never be sure if a compliment was actually just a compliment and not a setup for a harsh insult.
"You got this wrong though," Asteria tapped a small note on the side of her profile. "While I don't own any powers of the sun, I am also descended from their people. Hence why Meroko and I are twins."
"It was like...two a.m when I wrote that," Azula huffed and sipped from her milkshake.
"Overall" — Asteria passed through the pages of the notebook, eyeing them carefully — "this is actually really good. That's why you're my favorite human." She looked up with a wide smile.
"Would you quit saying that?" Azula hissed. "I'm not your pet."
"No, pets wouldn't talk so much," Asteria agreed, ignoring Azula's scowl.
"How about you make yourself useful and tell me everything you know about Obscurians," Azula surprised her with. If Asteria was going to stick her nose in her notebook, then she would help too.
Asteria blinked, surprised for a second before making a face. "Why would you wanna know about them? They're dead."
"Are you sure?"
Asteria didn't like the sharp stare she was getting from Azula. It made her squirm a bit. "Of...course I am."
Azula didn't think so. She cleared her throat and moved her milkshake a bit to the side. "When death came for you all, where were you, Asteria?"
"I was on my way to relieve Meroko and guard the barrier."
Azula made a mental calculation of where that would put each of the Shadow Scouts during the final hours of their previous lives. "So then, Meroko was barely getting to the human Kingdom trying to save Reign, you were on your way to the barrier dividing both the human and Shadow Kingdom, and Sailor Siren and Sailor Circe were left in the Shadow palace with the Queen."
Asteria followed as much as she could but she truly understood no point. "So?"
Azula shared a small laugh. "Then you don't know what happened in the Shadow Kingdom. You don't know what led to your millennia sleep. Queen Nyx had to have contact with Queen Serenity and Obscurius in order to put you, Sailor Siren and Sailor Circe to sleep."
Asteria looked at the redhead with horror. "What—"
"You said Queen Nyx had been growing ill which probably meant her powers were diminishing. What's to say she didn't have help from Obscurius?"
"Where is all this coming from!?" Asteria nearly shouted.
Azula sighed, she too frustrated with the lack of answers of the mysterious planet. "I just want to know more about Obscurius."
"It's dead," Asteria spat. "It's been dead since the Sailor Wars, alright? Their people fled before ours did. We were lucky enough to find safe haven on Earth but who knows where Obscurians ended up. They're most likely dead, Azula. Give that up."
At the moment Azula felt like there was nothing left to say during that moment. She gave a small nod and bring her milkshake back in front of her to finish.
~0~
There were four sets of hearing devices sitting between the girls in the base. Usagi and Mamoru, however, were not present.
"Okay," Azula picked up a pair. The silver devices were like earplugs but were silver metal. "So these things work like any other Bluetooth devices. You just-" she plugged one into her ear and then the next, "-put them on and then I'll activate them from here." She gestured to the computers behind them.
"And you're sure it'll work?" Rei picked a pair up.
"Ami and I worked on them," Azula pulled the devices from her ears. "They of course work."
Ami blushed at the compliment and chuckled. "We're confident."
"Good because it looks like they'll be needed soon," Luna called from the computers. "The monitors are picking up Sailor Siren's location again."
The rest of the girls ran towards the computers to see for themselves.
"What's she doing now?" Makoto dreaded to think of the humans succumbing to Sailor Siren's voice.
Azula helped Luna get into the security cameras of the street Sailor Siren was and allowed the others to see the new Shadow Scout raging for Princess Reign's safe return. Azula groaned and sat on a stool beside Luna's. "Girl doesn't take a break."
"We should go," Meroko told her sister. The two sisters returned to the table and picked up two hearing devices. Along with them went Minako and Makoto.
Ami took the stool next to Azula since both would be commandeering the mission this time. Both girls got ready as the others started heading out.
Sailor Siren was indeed out and about causing havoc. She had several of the humans aching on the ground, forcing traffic to stop. Others were at her beck and call crashing things.
The blonde was happy.
"Terrorizing innocent people is not the Sailor Scout way, Sailor Siren!" Sailor Venus forced her to stop and turn.
Sailor Siren gazed at the four Sailor Scouts standing across her. Her gaze lingered on the two Shadow Scouts but did not react. "You think I do this because I want to? Of course not. I do what I do to find Princess Reign. Hand her over safe and sound and I can make all this—" she waved a casual wave at the destruction around her, "—go away."
Sailor Jupiter sighed. The story was getting a bit tiresome. "We don't know where Reign is but we're searching for her."
"They are right," Sailor Hemera stepped forwards. "Siren, we're your comrades, remember?" she gestured to herself and Asteria. "We swore to protect Reign above everything."
Sailor Siren seemed to consider the idea of seeing her comrades again but it faded all too soon. "Tricks will not deceive me."
Sailor Asteria took her turn. "Siren, you know Queen Nyx allowed us a peaceful sleep until Reign would reawaken in a new time. Hemera was reincarnated. It's us. Don't you feel it?"
"Enough!" Sailor Siren gave a loud shout.
'I think she's about to go opera on you guys!' Azula warned the girls through the comms.
Heeding the warning, the four Scouts activated their devices and Ami boosted the signal from the base. Sailor Siren lurched forwards with a killer cry that forced all the humans save the Scouts to get on their knees and cover their ears.
"Ha! It's working!" Azula intently watched the screen in front of them. "We are good!" she laughed. Ami agreed with a small chuckle.
Luna and Artemis were much more focused on the work. Luna used her paw to turn the communication on through the activated devices. "You must sedate Sailor Siren fast!"
Sailor Jupiter took her chance first and fired with a thunder attack. Sailor Siren was struck by the lightning due to wondering how they had survived her scream in the first place. She was blasted against the top of a car.
Sailor Venus ran forwards. "Venus love me chain!" her golden chain threatened to capture Sailor Siren but the Shadow scout rolled off the car first. "Damn!"
Sailor Siren jumped back on her feet and began her deadly scream. As soon as she did, Ami and Azula activated the hearing devices. Both girls, and Luna and Artemis, watched with a bit of nervousness as the screams' vibrations rippled through the street.
"It's working!" Sailor Jupiter was the first to notice. Her voice rang perfectly in the others' ears thanks to Azula's tapping.
"Well don't waste time! Get her from behind!" Azula was quick to advise.
"Glimmering Boomerang attack!" Sailor Hemera threw her golden boomerang and struck Sailor Siren on her back, causing the latter to tumble forwards in the ground. "Venus! The chain!"
"Venus love me chain!" Sailor Venus successfully wrapped her chain around Sailor Siren. "The sedative!" she quickly looked around for the needed tool.
Sailor Asteria dropped beside Sailor Siren. "Don't worry, Siren, you'll be better after this," she promised the struggling Scout and plunged the sedative into her arm.
Sailor Siren yelped at the initial pinch but slowly fell under the effects of the sedative. Her head lulled to the side and her body went limp. From the base, the group cheered. Their plan had worked.
"Yes!" Azula high-fived a chuckling Ami who hadn't expected the action. "Boom! That's how we do it! Told you my plan would work!"
Luna punched a paw on the comm. system to communicate with the others. "You better bring Sailor Siren in so she can rest. We'll have to keep her down until the excess of her powers fades away."
Azula snapped her fingers and looked to Ami again. "That is gonna require some math. Care to join me? And by join I mean help me," she cheekily smile.
"Of course," Ami once again chuckled.
Like, I worked in consulting, so I was just sent out to other companies to do work for them. I had this shitty job where I was super overwhelmed and didn't understand what I was doing. I tried to quit and my bosses thankfully were like, "Why don't we just find you a different project?" So they did and it was great!
I started consulting with another company and I really liked it. I had some very clear responsibilities that I was actually really good at. My supervisor there asked me to come work for them directly with a 30% pay boost. It was great! I got to keep doing the same work for a ton more money and without the worry that I would be moved to a new project.
I had my main team. I had three people above me. My supervisor, his manager, and then his manager who was our overall team lead. Within 2 or 3 weeks after I joined officially, this huge meeting where we found out that our team was merging into another team and only one of our leaders would be staying. My team leader got the chop and somebody else took over for her.
It was all good, I kept up with what I was doing, although there were a few small changes that trickled down to me. Then a couple months after that, the team lead is apparently rearranging some stuff. He had like 6 managers under him and wanted to reduce that down to 5. My manager got the chop and suddenly a new guy took over.
I still had my supervisor, but now a lot of what I was doing was different. Then the company decided they were going to do this huge reshuffle. My supervisor was moving to a different division. My new manager was still my team lead and brought in somebody else to be my new supervisor.
And now what I'm doing is completely different, and my manager and supervisor just have a completely different way of working. I'm not miserable enough to quit, but had I been doing this project when I was consulting, I wouldn't have joined this company.
And now I'm not doing as great as I was before (because I'm doing completely different work) and they're upset and disappointed. But it's just frustrating because this is all really not what I thought I'd be doing
My job: Changes my entire leadership structure above me and my responsibilities a couple months after I join
Also my job: We're really disappointed that you're not meeting your job expectations 😔
Natasha met you post-Black Widow. She was helping out Yelena with freeing the Widows’ when she came across you.
You were a teen at the time - but still brainwashed. Thankfully because of your age you hadn’t been brainwashed into doing anything too bad yet, but you were almost finished with your training.
Something struck Natasha when she saw you. Looking back on it, she assumes it was the fact that like her and Yelena, you had been put into the Red Room at a young age, and you were the first teen they saw while on these various missions.
While she was okay with fighting the other Widows’, it was hard for Natasha to fight you. At the time, she brushed it off as not wanting to hurt a kid, but she knew that she was taking a liking to you.
Which was why, when Yelena managed to free you, and you told them that you had nowhere to go, Natasha felt the need to do something about it. Unlike the other Widows’ who were adults, you couldn’t go out into the world alone and, after talking with Yelena, Natasha decided to take you along with her.
It wasn’t adoption per say, at least at first, but it was close enough.
You jumped at the opportunity to tag along with Natasha and while Yelena continued the Widows’ mission, Natasha took you back to Melina’s house., where you met Melina and Alexei.
You were wary around them at first, clinging to Natasha, but you warmed up.
However, it wasn’t long before Natasha had to go on the run again. She offered you the chance to stay there with Melina and Alexei but you had grown very close to Natasha and wanted to come with her.
So, you did.
It was difficult, escaping authority and having to constantly be moving, but it in a way it strengthened yours and Natasha’s bond. You guys got closer and learned to work together — as fighting partners as well as mother/daughter.
Which was why, not having known your biological parents or where they were, the word ‘mom’ easily fell off her lips.
It happened when you guys were eating take-out in your latest house. Natasha had passed you the water pitcher and “thanks, mom” just came so naturally.
For a second, you didn’t realize what you had said, until you looked up to see Natasha staring at you with wide eyes.
Then, it hit you. Holy shit my god. Had you just said that?? What just happened?
You got scared that Natasha would react badly, but it was the opposite. A huge grin broke out on her face and even happy tears of pure joy.
When you asked her what was going on, she said: “I’ve never been a mother.”
That’s when you smiled and hugged her and you officially agreed on becoming mother and daughter.
Natasha was worried on being a mother at first, scared that she messed it up, but after reassurance from Melina via a phone call, she fell into the role naturally.
She became much more protective.
Not that you minded.
This went on until the Avengers called upon Natasha to fight Thanos.
She brought you along with her and the team was thoroughly stunned.
“wHO ArE yOU???”
“NATASHAAAA”
Yeah, it was chaotic.
You weren’t fazed though and quickly befriended Wanda and attempted to befriend Vision.
Steve and Sam also became like uncles.
Tony was a bit more difficult because you initially blamed him for you and Natasha on the run, so you were distant at first.
You were also kinda disappointed that Clint wasn’t there. You had wanted to meet him (and Natasha wanted you to meet him) after the stories you heard.
Nonetheless, you went to Wakanda and that’s where you met Bucky. It wasn’t long before he became another uncle.
You absolutely loved fighting alongside Okoye and meeting Shuri. You were fascinated by her technology.
You also kicked ass on the battlefield.
But then . . . You lost.
You watched Bucky disappear and even though you hadn’t known him for nearly as long as Natasha and Steve did, you still felt great pain.
Then you learned to that Sam and Wanda had gotten snapped and it got worse.
The days leading after were some of the most difficult days ever.
It was the first time you had to be strong for your mom, seeing as she had lost her friends too, and you panicked at first.
But you had been her daughter for awhile now and you knew what to do. You hugged Natasha and was there for her.
In the months coming, you helped the reminding heroes rebuild the world and you eventually joined the Avengers under your mother’s lead.
You also met Clint but it wasn’t a happy meeting, really, since he had lost his family.
You continued on as an Avenger with Natasha by your side. You met Carol and she was like an aunt and was amazing.
Things started to turn on the bright side when one day Natasha walked in with a genuine smile and held papers.
You could only guess what they were for at first, but quickly was shown and freaked out (a happy freak out) after.
Adoption papers.
You jumped and yelled and screamed and cheered, unbelievably happy that this was becoming official official.
You were Natasha’s daughter.
While the past few years had been difficult, this made it all worth it. You didn’t know where you’d be without Natasha and she was always with you.
Eventually, the team had a plan to defeat Thanos.
Which felt liked a miracle.
Natasha lives because I say so.
You and her got to tag-team Thanos’ enemies.
Literally the best team since Clint and Nat.
(Clint was jealous)
Then, you got everyone back!
You were SO happy to see Bucky, Sam, and Wanda again, and so was Natasha.
After you all reunited and the world went back to semi-normal, you and Natasha visited Yelena, Alexei, and Melina who were beyond happy to see you both.
Things started to turn up again and you were so grateful to have Nat at your side.
She was the best mom EVER.
Always looking out for you and protecting you
If any of the other Avengers made the slightest of snide comments, she was on them like a bloodhound
She always reminded you to hydrate and was always asking you how you were doing
It was hard to believe that she hadn’t had any experience with children before
Well, she had, with Clint’s kids, but still
Speaking of Clint’s kids, they all looked to you like an older cousin
But getting back to Natasha
She insisted that only she would train with you, not trusting the team to not injure you (besides, she knew you best)
You loved training with Natasha too
She always made it fun, putting on music and stuff
It helped you had similar music tastes
She also would always gush to anyone but really Clint, Sam, or Bucky on how cute and adorable you were
And they definitely agreed
One time during movie night you fell asleep with your head on Nat’s shoulder
She was so happy
Made Bucky take a picture
But she did feel a little bad because you must be tired
So she carried you to your room and put you to bed, kissing you goodnight
You had missed out on a childhood so it was nice for your mom to bring you to bed
All in all Natasha was the best thing to happen to you
Prompt - I knew I did from that first moment we met. It was…not love at first sight exactly, but - familiarity. Like: oh, hello, it’s you. It’s going to be you.
—————————————————–
Spencer Reid knew from the moment he laid eyes on you that you were something else, he could tell from one glance that you would change his life. No words needed to be exchanged for the man to be completely and utterly taken by you. He watched as you walked through the door, though your head was held high, shoulders pushed back giving the impression of complete confidence, he saw the way you fiddled with the strap of your bag with one hand. When he looked at your other hand he could see your forefinger picking at your thumb, clearly a nervous habit. He watched as you looked around the room, watched as Rossi made his way over to you, guiding you over to Hotch’s office with a smile.
“Down, pretty boy.” Derek grinned as Spencer startled, his head snapping around to face Derek just as you entered Hotch’s office. “I’ve never seen that look on your face and you don’t even know her name.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Spencer replied, cringing at how unconvincing he sounded.
He turned away from Derek and tried to focus on his paperwork but he could stop his eyes from straying over to the closed office door every few minutes much to Derek and Rossi’s amusement.
“Who is she anyway?” Derek asked.
“She’s lucky number ten,” Rossi told them, smothering a smile as Spencer looked over, “who knew finding another agent would be so difficult.”
“Wait,” another voice interrupted, “there’s a new person here? Is she nice? Why is that always my first question?” The group laughed as Penelope quizzed Rossi.
“Listen, I know as much as you people.” He said and before anyone else could speak Penelope was being handed a folder causing them all to groan.
-
“Agent Hotchner?” You asked as you were granted access to the office.
Hotch stood as you walked in, moving around his desk to hold a hand out to you.
“Yes and you’re Y/F/N Y/L/N, I presume?” He asked, smiling slightly at you as you nodded, still fiddling with your bag. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, please have a seat.”
“Thank you sir.” You smiled, taking a seat in the offered chair watching as he made his way back behind his desk.
“Your supervisor spoke very highly of you when I spoke with him, your success rate is impressive.” Hotch praised, glancing down at the file in front of him. “Your latest case seemed rather difficult, are you sure you’re ready to be back in the field again?”
“I passed all my psychiatric exams, I was cleared to return.” You told him stiffly.
“I’m aware of your results, I just want to be sure you’re ready. Infiltrating yourself into the life of Douglas Miller couldn’t have been an easy feat.” Hotch watched as a look of satisfaction took over your face.
“I’m ready, sir.” You told him, relaxing slightly. “It was a tough case, I’ll be the first to admit that seeing what I saw had an impact but I can do this.”
Hotch smiled at you before closing the folder.
“I believe you,” he said, “I think you’ll be a valuable addition to this team.”
The words were what you were hoping to hear, you’d wanted a job with the BAU for longer than you could remember but you paused. Surely it wasn’t that easy, right?
“Wait? That’s it?” You asked.
“That’s it.” Hotch confirmed, fighting back a smile at your expression.
“But- but I’ve been here less than five minutes.” You countered back, there were so many emotions going on within you that you felt slightly overwhelmed.
“Y/N, ever since your name was put forward I looked into your work and I was impressed. Your skills at undercover work are far above what I’ve seen in a long time, that alone would be an incredibly useful assest to the team but on top of that your ability to connect and empathise with unsubs, fast thinking and your profiling skills- trust me, you deserve this job and I have complete faith in you.” Hotch’s words had left you speechless, you had no clue how to respond but thankfully you didn’t have to as the door was pushed open and both you and Hotch turned to look at the brightly dressed woman in the doorway.
“I’m sorry to interrupt sir but we have a case.” The woman said and Hotch stood gesturing for you to follow.
“You have a to go bag?” He asked as you both walked out the door.
“Yes sir.” You nodded, still baffled by how well things had gone.
“Good, welcome to the team Y/L/N.”
-
“Everyone, this is SSA Y/F/N Y/L/N. I’m sure proper introductions can be made later.” Hotch said as the two of you entered the room before gesturing to Garcia that she could begin.
“Ok, yes, so, we have five bodies so far found in Wyoming. The first two bodies were hidden amongst some trees close to firehole bay. The ME presumes that the time of death was mostly likely a week ago but we should have full confirmation when you arrive. The victims, who we haven’t been able to identify yet, but I am working on it, were stripped completely and the wounds, that are in your files because I so do not need to see that, show heavy signs of torture. ” Garcia informed you all.
“The next body was a single male, again stripped and tortured and the ME says this death is most likely four to five days old. This body was found a few miles away from Basin Bay Point campsite.”
“Wait a second,” somebody interrupted, causing you to turn your head. There sat a man, younger than the rest of the team, he was…how you had missed him you didn’t know but now you felt like you couldn’t look away. “If I’m not mistaken those places are roughly twenty miles from each other at walking distance.”
“And driving distance?” An older man asked.
“I don’t think there is a way to drive to Basin Bay Point, especially not to where the body was left.” The younger man replied, looking down at the folder he was given with a frown.
“I’ll have a map ready for you on the plane.” Penelope assured him before continuing. “Now, the next two bodies were the most recent, ME says they were killed a day or two ago and these victims we have been able to identify as Taylor Gomez and her boyfriend Jack Gaskarth.” Penelope said as she brought their pictures up. “They were never reported missing because they had told friends and family they were going camping, which checks out because their bodies were found three miles away from Lewis Lake campground. They show the same wounds as the other vics.” Garcia explained.
You grimaced as you looked down at the tablet Hotch had passed you as you saw a young man and woman, naked with slices all across their bodies, as well as deep bruising to the neck.
“What was the CoD, Garcia?” The younger man spoke up again.
“ME still needs to run a full examination but her best bet is that it was asphyxiation.” She told him with a frown.
“That makes sense, there isn’t a lot of blood or scabbing which suggests they were done post mortem.”
“So what,” you spoke up, pausing for a moment when everyone turned to you, “the unsub blitz attacks the victims and kills them before torturing them? What’s the point in that?”
“It could be a number of things actually. Perhaps it’s not about the kills for him but more to do with the fascination of the human body, we’ve seen it before where curiosity leads to this kind of attack. It could also be that he has to kill, he has a compulsion to kill and once he’s given into that compulsion he gets to fulfil other urges. If I had to guess I’d say the victims are victims of opportunity-” The younger man rambled, his hands gesturing in front of him as he spoke causing you to smile.
“Because there is no set pattern, he crosses race and gender lines and there’s no secondary location.” You cut off the other man who looked at you with a grin.
“Exactly, the area is so isolated that he can get away with quick and easy killings but because it doesn’t seem like there’s a secondary location yet we have to presume that the torture is a means to satisfy himself when he can’t hold his victims hostage.”
“It’s a long flight and this unsub doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Wheels up in fifteen.” Hotch said as he stood up, everyone was quick to follow until it was just you and the guy you had spoken to left.
“Hi.” He said, causing you to turn around with a smile.
“Hi.”
“I’m Spencer, Spencer Reid.” He introduced himself.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N, nice to meet you.” You replied, reaching out your hand to shake his, your eyebrows pulling together slightly as he shook his head.
“Sorry, I don’t um,” He said, causing you to drop your hand and nod understandingly, “it’s nothing against you, just…germs.” He trailed off, berating himself in his head.
“No problem.” You smiled again, god that smile. Spencer felt his heart race.
“Congratulations on joining the team.” He praised as the two of you walked out of the round table room.
“Thank you, I’ve wanted this for so long.” He watched as the smile fell from your face before you shook your head slightly.
“Is everything ok?” He asked, understanding the nerves. He couldn’t help but glance down, almost smiling as he saw you picking at your thumb.
“Yeah, I’m just, what if I mess up?” You couldn’t help but ask. After wanting this job for as long as you had, all the hard nights and long days spent training you were finally here and you’d be damned if you screwed everything up.
“You won’t, Hotch wouldn’t have hired you if he didn’t think you were good enough, trust me. I think you’ll be amazing.” He told you, flushing slightly at his own words and the soft smile that replaced the frown on your face.
“Thank you Spencer.” You replied softly and before he could respond the rest of the team was calling for the two of you to head to the air strip.
-
On the plane you were properly introduced to everyone as you took a seat next to Spencer, sitting opposite Hotch and Rossi. On the table in front of you Spencer had both a map of the US and a smaller map of Wyoming. You watched his fingers trace invisible lines as his eyebrows knitted together.
You were trying not to stare, really you were, but there was just something about the man that made you want to get to know him.
Thankfully before anyone noticed your eyes glancing at Spencer every few moments, the man himself spoke.
“Guys, if you map out where the five victims were found,” Spencer began, circling three places on the map as he did, “it looks like the victims might have been hiking the continental divide trail.”
“Pretty boy, isn’t that trail like thousands of miles long?” Morgan asked, watching as Spencer nodded, pushing the little map of Wyoming out of the way for a moment and drawing a line down the map of the US.
“This is the continental divide trail, it’s 3,300 miles long and it’s actually quite difficult to hike. These people had to have been exceptionally fit and healthy which further backs up the theory that these were blitz attacks. You can go days without seeing other people when hiking the trail and most hikers have to give up because of lack of supplies or needing urgent medical care from injuries and illnesses they attract. A part of the Wyoming part of the trail includes a 120 mile stretch of desert with water sources few and far between.” Spencer rambled and you couldn’t help the soft smile, though you did try to hide it behind your hand, glancing away from Rossi when you locked eyes with him and he raised an eyebrow at you.
“So we have a serial killer and 3,300 miles of potential hunting grounds?” JJ asked.
“So far he seems to be focusing on Wyoming, which narrows the geographic profile down to…’ Spencer paused as he pulled the Wyoming map closer to him, “550 miles.”
“I hope you all brought your hiking boots.” Rossi said as groans filled the jet.
“Hello my crime fighters.” Garcia’s voice sounded through the speakers. “Hotch, the families of the latest two victims are at the station waiting for you.”
“Thank you Garcia,” Hotch replied before turning to the team. “JJ, I want you to come with me to the station and help interview the families. We also need to get ahead of the media on this before they start glorifying the unsub. Reid, since the geographic profile is mostly established, I want you to take Y/L/N and head to the latest crime scene. Dave and Morgan, the two of you head to the second crime scene.”
You and Spencer both shared a look at the news you were travelling to a crime scene that couldn’t be driven too. Whilst you managed to pass the FBI’s training and fitness tests you weren’t exactly athletically inclined and seeing from the look Spencer was giving you neither was he.
Judging from the chuckles that filled the plane the others had come to the same conclusion that you and Spencer were not going to recover from this trip.
-
You had driven as close to the crime scene as you could get, which was thankfully closer than the one Morgan and Rossi had to go to. It was still a hell of a hike to get to where the unsub had dumped the bodies.
“Ok, ok,” Spencer panted, cheeks flushed from the heat. “Let’s take a break.”
“Please.” You were quick to agree and the two of you sat down heavily on a fallen tree trunk. You had all been warned that you needed supplies, even for a short hike. So you had both been sent out with backpacks filled with water bottles and food. There were other supplies like maps, compasses and first aid kits that you were hoping you wouldn’t have to use. Thankfully you had been paired with the man with the eidetic memory because you couldn’t read a map to save your life.
After the two of you gulped down some water and caught your breath Spencer spoke up.
“Why the BAU?” He asked suddenly, causing you to look up in confusion.
“Sorry?” You replied.
“You said you had wanted to join the BAU for a long time, why?” He asked again, not pushing you when you paused.
It wasn’t a secret what had happened to your family, Spencer could easily find the information out if he wanted to but you wanted to be the one to tell him. It wasn’t a story you liked sharing with people but something about Spencer made you feel…safe.
“When I was a kid there was a serial killer but he was in the next state over and we were from a small town so nobody thought to worry and after a while things went quiet so everyone just assumed he stopped, you know? Anyway, one day I went to my friend’s house, it was summer and I was always out with my friends. I was there for a few hours but I was always home in time for dinner except for this day, I ended up losing track of time and headed home an hour late. When I got home, my momma was there in the kitchen. She was covered in blood and I just screamed. The rest of my family didn’t make it either. When the police came they said the markings were the same as the victims from the next state over.” You told him, not pausing for breath as you rushed through the story. You watched as his expression fell, his sympathy written on his face.
“I’m so sorry.” He told you and you could hear the sincerity in his tone. You gave him a small smile before continuing.
“I could just never understand why. The thing that kept me up at night was that question: why? Why them? Why did he come here? Why wasn’t I home? Why did I deserve to live? I started researching and somehow came across an article about the BAU, from there I knew I wanted to work there.”
“Most people wouldn’t be able to come back from something like that, especially at such a young age.” Spencer said, causing you to glance over at him. “They’d be so proud of you.”
You couldn’t help but let out what sounded like a chuckle and a sob at those words, causing Spencer’s eyes to widen in fear he had upset you further but then you smile brightly and he couldn’t help but smile back.
“I like to think so.” You said softly. “You ready to continue?” You asked, chuckling as he groaned before standing up.
“I hate Hotch.” Was the grumbled response and the laugh he received in return made every sore bone and the aching feet worth it.
-
“We know that this unsub is a physically fit white male in his mid to late thirties.” Hotch began.
“Looking at the geographical pattern it’s safe to assume that he too is hiking the Continental Divide Trail in search of victims who are isolated from the rest of civilization. He also has no problems taking down two victims.” Spencer continued.
“The period in between kills is lessening so we should expect to find another body soon, have as many officers as possible on the rest of the trail.” You picked up.
“Considering the last kill was two days ago, the average person could walk up to 30 miles a day on normal terrain but we have to consider that the terrain out there is harsh so lets say he walks 20 miles a day that gives up a 40 mile radius he could be in. He is guaranteed to stay on the continental divide trail so stop every male you see.” Spencer told the LEO’s and after some more information was shared everyone headed off in different directions, the BAU members heading into the room they had been given to work in.
“Y/N,” Hotch said, causing everyone to look over at you.
“Yes sir?” You asked, looking up from your laptop.
“You’re probably the most skilled undercover agent in this room,” He said, causing your cheeks to flush and Spencer couldn’t help but smile. “I know this isn’t exactly the type of case you’d usually be assigned but perhaps if we send you out there we have a better chance of catching him. This man is impulsive, if he sees you he won’t be able to control himself.” Hotch explained, ignoring the questioning looks he was getting from most of the team.
You, however, relaxed, thankful that you hadn’t done something wrong. Undercover work was easy, you were comfortable with it, you knew you were good at it. Obviously you weren’t as confident at this part of the job yet, how could you be on your first case, but undercover work? That was your area of expertise.
“Of course sir.” You agreed easily before remembering how fun the small hike to the last crime scene was…your body would not thank you for signing up for a much longer hike.
“Hotch, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Morgan spoke up causing you to frown. Sure they didn’t know you yet but surely your record spoke for itself. “No offence to you,” he said quickly as he turned to you, “it’s just-“
But before he could finish Hotch cut him off, “I have full faith in Y/L/N’s abilities.”
You couldn’t help feeling a swell of pride at Hotch’s words, a man who you looked up to, a man who barely knew you but was trusting you with so much already. You locked eyes with Spencer who smiled at you reassuringly.
“I’m not doubting the kid’s abilities,” Morgan continued, missing the way you rolled your eyes at being called a kid. “I’m just saying maybe don’t send her in on her own on her first case.”
“I’ll go with her.” Spencer spoke up before Hotch could argue back.
Your eyes widened at Spencer’s offer, he did just as well as you did on your first outing and now he was offering to put himself through hours more of that for what?
“Are you ok with that, Y/N?” Hotch asked you.
You didn’t even hesitate to nod, more than happy for the opportunity to spend time with Spencer Reid.
-
“We’ll be close by the whole time,” Hotch told you as he passed you your backpack filled with supplies, “the second we hear something, we’ll be there.” He assured you and you couldn’t help but smile at his concern.
“I’ll be fine, sir. This is actually the part of the job I’m good at.” You laughed, watching as his lip twitched upwards.
“You’ve been a great help in coming up with a profile too.” He assured you and before you could say anything the rest of the team was flooding in.
The plan for you and Spencer to hike up to a specific spot that Spencer had managed to pinpoint the unsub at and set up camp there. From there you would wait and hope for the unsub to appear. The man was impulsive and his need to kill would be overwhelming by now. The two of you were wired up so that if the unsub appeared the rest of the team could step in and help with the arrest.
You and Spencer were dropped off half an hour away from your campsite just so that if the unsub was around he wouldn’t suspect anything.
The walk was mostly silent, both you and Spencer focusing on not breaking an ankle on the uneven terrain when Spencer finally spoke up.
“Morgan didn’t mean anything insulting.” He told you, causing you to pause before shrugging your shoulders and continuing. When you stayed silent Spencer continued, “he’s just protective but sometimes he isn’t really good at showing it and it comes across…”
“It comes across like he thinks I can’t do my job despite this being my forte.” You finished with a huff before sighing. “I’m sorry, I just…you can’t imagine how many times a male colleague has said I can’t do something and then a supervisor has agreed, you don’t understand how hard I have to fight to be given assignments and not have somebody constantly berating me.” You ranted.
“People look at me like I’m a child. When I first joined the BAU nobody would take me seriously, without Gideon I don’t know what would have happened.” Spencer told you quietly, causing you to frown.
“So you can understand why it’s so frustrating that someone who doesn’t know me didn’t even want to give me a chance.” You replied, causing him to nod sadly. ‘I know he probably didn’t mean anything but…”
“You’ve heard that your entire career.” Spencer finished.
“Hotch was the first person to give me a chance without any hesitation.” You told him softly, watching as he smiled at that. “This should be close enough.” You said as you looked around, the place looked similar to the image Spencer had shown the team.
“Please tell me you know how to put a tent up.” You said, watching as his face twisted.
“I know the theory?” The way his response sounded like a question made you smile as you pulled poles and material out of a bag. The two of you staring down at the mess with matching expressions of confusion.
“Now would be a really good time for the unsub to attack.” He muttered, causing you to laugh loudly. Spencer couldn’t help but grin over at you, your cheeks flushing as you caught the expression.
It took longer than either you or Spencer were willing to admit to put the tent up, despite the fact that it wouldn’t get used, you had to make it look like the pair of you were really camping. There was a lot of grumbling, many curse words and a cut or two.
There was also a lot of laughter coming from the comms in your ears causing both you and Spencer to roll your eyes.
Once the tent was up, Spencer lay a blanket down outside of it and sat down, gesturing for you to do the same. Miraculously the two of you got a fire started and as the sun set and the night time air chilled you were thankful for it.
“I don’t camp but I guess I can see the appeal.” Spencer told you as he titled his head back to look up at the stars. You glanced up too, the sky wasn’t totally black yet, more of an inky blue colour and you could see every star on the cloudless night.
It was beautiful and yet you still found your gaze falling back on Spencer.
“Yeah, me too.” You replied softly, your voice quiet so as not to break the peacefulness around you.
Somehow the two of you ended up laying down and looking up at the sky, you had a smile on your face that refused to move as Spencer’s hushed voice told you facts about stars.
“I’m glad you’re on the team.” Spencer whispered after a long pause of silence. It took you a moment to register his words before you turned your head, coming face to face with the man.
“Me too.” You whispered back, meaning the words with your entire being.
Just as Spencer went to say something you heard a rustle in the bushes and locked eyes with Spencer who nodded.
The two of you waited, not waiting to disrupt the operation if it just turned out to be an animal, but as you pushed yourself up on your elbow and discreetly looked around you saw a faint outline of a man. He was hidden behind a tree but he was watching the two of you.
“The hike up here was exactly what we needed.” You told Spencer and through the comms you heard the team moving out.
“You’re right.” He played along, smiling up at you from his reclined position.
Before you knew what was happening Spencer had his gun out and the unsub grabbed you, placing you in front of him as a human shield. If someone asked you, you would never have been able to recall the events that led to you having a knife held to your neck.
You saw the panicked look in Spencer’s eyes but you couldn’t hear his thoughts, they were overwhelming. Thoughts of Maeve passed through his mind as he pleaded with anyone who would listen to let you be ok, he couldn’t lose you too. Hell, he’d only known you a few days and yet he knew you were special, he knew he had to have you in his life. If you died now…
“Just let her go.” Spencer said, keeping his gun trained on the man.
“I let her go, you ship me off to death row.” The man responded, his face close to your face, too close. The smell of his breath had you grimacing.
“I’ll make you a deal,” Spencer responded, not even thinking. He just needed to get you away.
“Spenc, what you doing kid?” He heard Morgan through his ear piece but he just shook his head before shooting you a reassuring smile, trying not to focus on the tears in your eyes or the blood on your neck.
“I’m listenin’.” The unsub replied after a moment of silence, gesturing for Spencer to continue.
“Let her go,” He said, lowering his gun, “I won’t arrest you. You can get a head start before anyone else gets here. Just let her go.” Spencer pleaded.
It was a tense few seconds in which Spencer never took his eyes off you, he hated to see that scared look in your eyes, the fear in them made Spencer ache.
“Let her go.” Spencer said once more and he let out a sigh of relief as you were pushed into his arms.
Just as the unsub ran to leave, you twisted around in Spencer’s arms and drew your own gun, shooting the unsub in the leg. The rest of the team ran in just as the man fell to the ground.
Spencer turned you around so that you were facing him, his hands on your shoulders.
“Are you ok?” He asked, Morgan and Hotch walking over whilst Rossi and JJ dealt with the man.
You didn’t respond with words, instead you wrapped your arms around Spencer. He didn’t hesitate to wrap his own around you, holding you close as you let the tears slid down your face.
You pulled away abruptly, rubbing your eyes as you did.
“Sorry, you don’t like to be touched and here I am-“ You said but Spencer just cut you off.
“It’s fine, really.” He assured you before his attention turned to your neck. The knife hadn’t pierced the skin too badly, there was a small bit of blood where the knife had nicked you when the unsub pressed a bit too hard.
“Are you ok?” He asked again, fingers on your jaw so that he could tilt your face and get a better look.
“Spencer, I’m fine.” You assured him but that didn’t stop him from getting you medical attention the moment you were back in the town.
Spencer watched as you squirmed away from the nurse seeing to you with a soft smile.
There was something about you that made him feel so free, like he could be himself and the thought of losing you…he didn’t want to think about it again.
“You like her.” Derek said as he came to stand next to the younger man.
“That’s ridiculous, I’ve known her for a few days.” Spencer shot back but he knew his friend was right.
“If she’s the right girl, a few days is all you need.” Was Derek’s reply before he walked away, leaving Spencer looking at you with a thoughtful look on his face.
-
The plane ride home was uneventful.
You took the seat next to Spencer again and watched him pull a book out. You couldn’t help but glance down at it, your eyebrows knitting together in confusion as you didn’t recognise the language.
“It’s Russian.” He told you quietly, not wanting to disturb anyone as they settled in for a long flight.
“You read Russian?” You asked just as quietly, watching as he smiled bashfully and shrugged before nodding. You glanced down at the pages again before letting out a small yawn. “Can you read to me?” You asked him, smiling as he nodded again.
“Of course,” He said and with that it wasn’t long before you fell asleep to the soothing sound of Spencer Reid.
-
“Ask her, man.” Morgan said as both he and Spencer watched you leave the office after finishing your paperwork. Spencer too was done and Morgan assured him he’d make sure Hotch received it.
There was only a brief moment of hesitation before Spencer snatched his satchel up and ran to the elevators, getting there just before they shut on you.
“Hey.” He greeted as he stepped in.
“Hi.” You smiled, brushing a piece of hair out of your face.
“I was wondering, I mean if you wanted to, of course you don’t have to, I was only suggesting but I’d really like it if you would,” Spencer rambled before cutting himself out with a groaning causing you to giggle.
“Are you asking me out?” You asked, cheeks flushing as you asked.
“I’m trying to,” he told you, “but I’m not very good at this.”
“Just ask.” You told him softly.
“Would you like to go out with me?” He asked after taking a deep and calming breath.
“I’d love to.” You grinned, thankful that the man had made a move. You wouldn’t have risked asking him on the chance that you were reading him wrong and he didn’t like you but thankfully he had taken it into his own hands.
“Good. Great. That, that’s great.” He repeated, a soft grin spreading across his face causing you to giggle as the doors opened.
The two of you walked out together and there was a moment of awkward silence before Spencer dipped his head down to kiss your cheek, making your blush even more prominent.
You looked so pretty when you blushed, Spencer thought.
“I’ll call you.” He promised.
“I hope so.” You replied before heading towards your car, when you turned around you saw Spencer still stood by the doors with a smile still on his face. You giggled to yourself but couldn’t stop smiling yourself if you tried.
Spencer Reid was something else and you couldn’t wait to learn everything about that wonderful man.
As expected by Carats, Minnie didn’t change her hair colour
Once the doors opened, she was seen standing between Dino and Jeonghan and couldn’t help but to smile when she got see Carats again
During their game segment, she sat down between S.Coups and Seungkwan
She wasn’t very good at answering any of the questions, so just decided to sit back and enjoy, laughing at the others who tried so hard
At some point during the performance she could definitely feel some sort of panic rising up inside of her. Minnie just suddenly felt very overwhelmed with being on stage again after such a long time of not performing in front of a crowd. Everything was fine after a few deep breaths though.
Since her and Seungkwan are known to have a very broad knowledge when it comes to K-Pop, she served as the joker for the next game and whoever won Rock, Paper, Scissors, was allowed to have her on the team.
She was put into Team V with Dino, Mingyu, Vernon, and Hoshi.
Minnie was laughing her ass off at Minghao, who was forced to sing “Horangi Power” and Jesus Christ, her face when Jeonghan performed “Cold Blooded”😳.
She was Jun’s biggest hype woman during his performance of “Crooked”
And she smiled so hard when Joshua had to sing “Zero Conduct” because it surprised her how much he got into it.
OOOOH, what a SHOCKER this stage was😮💨
God damn…
A lot of Carats got to question their sexuality thanks to Minnie.
After some consideration because of certain dance moves, they still decided to go with just giving the members the same roles as the individual ‘96 Liners have, so:
Jun -> Minghao (Lead Dancer)
Hoshi -> Minnie (Main Dancer)
Wonwoo -> Mingyu (Main/Lead Rapper)
Woozi -> DK (Main Vocalist)
Did Minnie wear a black bra on purpose? Yes. Yes, she did. And she got a high five from the stylist. The rain was a paid actor that night.
The VCR was… quite something.
She was put as Mingyu’s cowgirl friend and god, she was not able to hold back her laughter for long.
She slipped. Of course she did. And she cursed. Thankfully, the microphone didn’t get it but damn she was annoyed.
After the performance her and Dino tried to glide across the stage and she would’ve fallen again if it wasn’t for Wonwoo catching her. Eventually he just joined them.
Minnie scolded him for taking off his shoes.
Minnie was sitting between Joshua and Mingyu and the moment they sat down, looking straight ahead into the crowd, she could already feel herself tearing up.
Hearing all the member’s words just made her feel even more emotional, but she was able to hold the tears back. Mostly.
When she put on the jacket, Mingyu turned to her and saw her red eyes and started smiling at her and telling her to not cry because if she starts crying, he would too.
Her end ment:
“First of all, thank you truly, so so much for being here tonight and for fighting the cold and the rain. We’re up here moving around, so it’s not too cold, but you’re just sitting there. But you’re still here, so I’m very grateful for that.” She paused a little and looked down.
“I told you, don’t cry,” Mingyu warned her with a smile.
“It’s really hard!” She whined, making Joshua laugh as he patted her back.
Minnie sniffed, ”This still doesn’t feel real if I'm honest, so I’m sure that I’ll cry a lot once I get home and realise what happened today. After not seeing you guys for so long… it will take some time to get used to this again.” She thought about her next words, but decided to say them anyways, “During one of the performances today, I started feeling a very familiar feeling from back in the days that I would get sometimes whenever we performed in front of a bigger crowd. But I held it back because... I thought that it’s not worth being anxious about something so beautiful like this. And now looking at you with your posters and lightsticks,”
“And Sogos,” Hoshi added,
“And the sogos of course,” she laughed, “I remember why we’re doing all of this. During those 2 years, I think, all of us at some point felt a little… lost... and unsure about the future. But today I just got reminded of how amazing it is what we get to do and… who I get to do this with.”
She paused, feeling a lot of tears coming up, “Because it’s… it’s the members for one, but also you guys,” pointing at the crowd, “we’re doing this all together, we’re going through all of this together. And… I’m- I'm so insanely grateful for every single one of you. And the members of course.”
All of the guys “awed” into their microphones, making her laugh.
“Yeah… And...," she chuckled, "I couldn't hold myself back today, so I sneaked closely to the entrance to watch some of you when you got in and I couldn't believe it. You guys made yourself so pretty and showed up in skirts and such beautiful outfits even though the weather forecast said it would rain. I really appreciate that, but I was also so worried for you. It's so sweet of you and I'm definitely going to remember this. I honestly don't think, I will ever be able to completely understand the love that you guys have for us. It's... so grand and I'm not sure if I'll ever... just... realise how big it is. But please know that I appreciate and respect you so SO much. I wish I could explain it with words... but... I can't really... so... I hope that our actions will speak for us."
She took a deep breath, "I’m gonna hold back before I start crying more, but from the bottom of my heart… thank you and please make sure to take a very long hot bath or shower, take some medicine and snuggle into your bed with the heater on, alright? Don’t get sick, we still have a lot more for you guys.” With a wave, an air kiss and a sad smile, her speech ended.
Minnie was on the moving platform with Joshua, Mingyu, and Wonwoo, covered in the sweatshirt and jacket, pockets filled with heating pads, trying to stay as warm as possible.
Wonwoo was trying to comfort her once he noticed that she started tearing up more again while watching the passing fans, waving at them. They stayed close throughout this segment.
A 144p picture indicates that they got a little very close when Wonwoo was asking her if she was alright, but she couldn’t hear him well, so he had to lean in more
Too keep herself from crying, Minnie was focusing on the other members having fun, but that kinda only made her want to cry more.
In another picture, more clear, Minnie was seen raking her fingers through Wonwoo’s hair, trying to keep it out of his eyes - it made both of them smile because the rain was too heavy and just ruined whatever hairstyle she was trying to give him. To not be too obvious, she did the same with Mingyu, who messed up his hair on purpose, earning him a ‘are you serious?’ look from her and a soft slap on his cheek.
She truly actually missed the endless Aju Nice encore and couldn’t help but to smile for almost the entire time.
At some point Wonwoo put a somewhat dry towel over her head and told her to try to keep her hair under it so it wouldn’t get wet and she wouldn’t get sick. Carats joke that that was his Asian mum instinct.
Hotch x reader - Broken souls
Part three:
You had spent the next week slowly talking to Aaron. You still hadn’t told him that you were going for an interview at the BAU, you knew he worked there but he didn’t know anything about you.
Walking into the FBI building, you looked around and spotted a younger man talking to an older one.
“Excuse me gentlemen?” You asked.
“How can we help?” The older one asked.
“Can you show me to Erin Struass’ office?”
“Sure thing. What’s your name?”
You followed behind them older one, carefully looking around at everyone you had passed.
“(Y/N).”
The man nodded and held you his hand. Thankfully you didn’t have to swap hand this time so you shook it.
“David Rossi.”
He gestured to a door and you smiled, giving a nod of your head you knocked on the door before entering.
“Please have a seat.”
You closed the door and sat down, checking the office over.
“Miss Barnes, I know who you are and why you’re here. If it were up to me someone like you wouldn’t have a position here.”
You looked at her.
“It’s (L/N) here if you don’t mind. I have no way to assure you that I have changed, and I refuse to tell you anything about my past. But I can tell you I come here simply for a fresh start.”
She nodded her head, holding your file in her hand.
“They gave me a brief history about you. I tried to have someone look into but no files were found.”
“Need to know basis really. My details are well protected.”
“I’m well aware. Look, I have no choice but to give you this job, but I will be keeping a close eye on you.”
“I understand ma’am, thank you.”
“I guess you should meet the team.”
You got up and followed her in silence.
She led you to a bullpen, and some people looked up, but she didn’t stop to talk to them.
She carried on walking and you did the same.
Leading you up to an office, she knocked on the door before walking in and you did the same. You recognised Aaron immediately and he did the same.
Shock washed over his face before it quickly vanished.
“This is Agent (L/N), she’s on loan from another agency. She’ll be on your team until I see fit.”
With that, Strauss left and you turned to Aaron giving him a small smile.
“Hello again.”
“You never told me you were starting here.” He said.
“You never told me you worked here.” You resorted.
He chuckled and nodded his head as he offered you a seat.
“Let me formally welcome you then. I’m supervisory special agent Aaron Hotchner. You can call me Hotch.”
“(Y/N) (L/N), call me whatever.”
He nodded, and started to show you things and explain how things worked.
After going through everything, he took you down the stairs where a small group of people were waiting for you both.
“Guys, this is (Y/N) (L/N) she’ll be joining us.”
Aaron introduced you to everyone, and they immediately started asking questions.
“Where are you from?” Prentiss asked.
“New York.”
“Not much of an accent.” She mused.
You chuckled, giving a small shrug of your shoulders.
“I’ve travelled.”
“Tell us about you!” Garcia beamed.
“Well, there’s not much to say.” Smiled.
They all looked at each other.
You knew these were the worlds best profilers, the best people there was at reading other people.
You knew they didn’t believe what you just said, but they didn’t seem to push it too much.
“What brings you here?” JJ smiled.
“Work.”
They nodded, you answered a few more of their questions before they all had to separate in order to do their work.
Sitting at the desk you were given, you slyly looked around.
You could easily place the SHIELD agents that were put there.
They all gave you a small nod when you connected eyes with them and the you turned to the cameras.
You weren’t stupid, you knew that fury was watching you on those cameras.
When you phone went off you frowned and picked it up.
Tony: someone’s trying to access your file.
You: who?
Tony: Penelope Garcia.
You: she’s someone I work with, do your thing.
Tony: got it kid.
You weren’t surprised she was going to try and get information about you. No doubt Aaron had put her to it.
You trusted Tony though, he was going to throw a few fake things her way just to keep them satisfied but you wondered how long you could keep your little secret for
Secret's Out
Summary: Request! Reid and Y/N are secretly dating, but their business doesn't stay their business for long.
Warnings: Criminal Minds level violence
Word Count: 2974
a/n: Thank you for the request! I hope you like it :)
Sorry this took forever! It took me a while to think of case details that I liked and then I kept rewriting parts. I think I'm finally happy with it though!
Masterlist
"Spencer!" You pushed him away. "The doors could open at any moment! How are we supposed to keep this a secret if Morgan walks in on us kissing in the elevator?" You raised a brow at him.
"On average, elevators travel at a speed of 200 ft/min or about 4 seconds per floor. Being on the fifth floor means we have about 20 seconds to ourselves." He smiled triumphantly.
"Yeah, until someone surprises us on floor 3." You rolled your eyes, stepping out of the doors once they opened.
"I can't help it. I'm just... really happy with you." He whispered softly.
"I'm really happy too." You smiled at him. You were about to lean in when the elevator doors opened once again to reveal JJ and Emily.
"Hey guys, ready for another case?" Emily glanced between you suspiciously, but thankfully didn't ask any prying questions.
"Yep, let's go!" You turned quickly, walking into the round table room without so much as a glance back at the three agents by the elevator.
"What's with her?" JJ questioned.
"Said she didn't sleep well last night. Must be all the caffeine." He held his own cup off coffee up in solidarity before also walking to the round table room.
"Alright, we've got 3 dead in Billings, Montana. All three were law enforcement, and all three were found this morning around the city." You listened as Penelope introduced the details of the case.
"Could be someone who feels the police didn't do a good enough job protecting a loved one?" You threw out a theory.
"Or someone who feels wronged by the criminal justice system as a whole." Rossi added on.
"Either way, they likely won't stop until we catch them. Wheels up in 20." Hotch rose from his seat as he spoke, wasting no time in preparing for take off.
You all dispersed briefly to grab your go bags, meeting back at the SUVs to head to the jet.
Once boarded, it didn't take long for the conversation to start up again.
"When we land, L/N go to the morgue. Dave, Prentiss take the first and second crime scenes, they're only a mile apart. Morgan and Reid, check out the third scene. I'll head to the precinct with JJ."
With Hotch's instructions set, you took what little time you had left on the flight to go over the causes of death.
-
"Anything stand out to you on the bodies?" You asked the ME after going over the blunt force trauma and bullet wounds.
"There's tape residue and bruising on the wrists and ankles. Based on the state of bruising, they were likely held for about 3 days before they were killed."
"Thank you for your help." You shook hands, pulling out your phone to call Hotch.
"Hotchner."
"Hotch, they were held for days before they were killed. How did nobody notice they were missing?" There was nothing in the reports that indicated the victims were reported missing prior to being found.
"We just found the same pattern. They all used vacation days for various reasons in the days leading up to their deaths. Meet us back at the precinct and Reid can explain the whole pattern."
"Okay, I'm leaving now." You hung up just as you reached the SUV. Throughout the drive, you couldn't stop thinking that something wasn't adding up.
The victims were taken in the same day. It didn't make sense for the unsub not to escalate. So, why aren't any officers unaccounted for?
Suddenly, a truck crashed into your SUV, sending you flying off the road. A figure dressed in black opened the door and dragged you from the car.
"Agent L/N, it's so good to see you again." A male voice spoke, but you couldn't place it.
He hit you over the head with a handgun before dragging you to his own vehicle.
-
"Where's L/N?" Emily questioned when her and Rossi returned from the second dumpsite.
"On her way back from the ME." Hotch answered. "Did you find anything useful?"
"They truly are dumpsites. Both bodies were found by dumpsters, sending a pretty clear message." Dave replied.
"Same for the third site." Derek added on.
"All three victims were single and took time off leading up to their death. Nobody would've notice that they were missing until it was too late." Reid supplied the final bit of information gathered.
Hotch's phone rang before anyone else could comment. The frantic sound of Garcia's nails clicking against her keyboard echoed through the phone. She was talking before anyone could greet her.
"You need to see this, check your tablets."
Confused glances were exchanged as everyone, barring Reid, opened their tablets. Reid glanced over Morgan's shoulder to observe as well.
A seemingly live video that Garcia received a link to was streaming to the tablets.
A single woman sitting in a chair could be seen in the frame. Her wrists and ankles were bound to the chair with thick, gray tape and a bag was over her head.
"Garcia, what is this?" Hotch asked almost immediately.
"I was emailed the link just now. It's not streaming anywhere else online." Her reply came quickly, the sound of typing still filling in the silence.
"Can you trace it?" Rossi questioned.
"I'm trying, but it's being routed through multiple proxy servers."
"Did the email say anything?" Emily chimed in.
"No, it was just the link- Wait. I just got another email." She paused as the new email loaded. "It's addressed to Reid."
Every set of eyes in the room turned to Reid.
"What does it say?" He felt the nerves beginning to grow waiting for Garcia to read the words aloud.
"Dr. Reid,
I hope you remember me. What am I saying, of course you do. I've got something of yours that you might want back. You see Dr. Reid, you and your team ruined me. My family, my career, all of it, just gone. I thought I'd return the favor. A person's phone can be so informative. Tell me, does your team know about your girlfriend? I've so enjoyed getting reacquainted with her.
Happy hunting."
Spencer's face went white as he looked at Morgan's tablet again. His thoughts were racing. How did he not recognize you before? Even with the bag over your head, he should've known it was you.
"It's her." His words were barely a whisper.
"This is your girlfriend?" Morgan gestured to the screen again. Spencer could only nod in reply, his mind unable to focus on anything except you.
"Reid, listen to me. You've got to tell us everything you know about her. We'll have to split up. You can go back to Quantico with Emily and Morgan, the rest of us will stay here to work on our current case." Hotch was already devising a strategy to work both cases.
"There's no need." His words made sense to him, but sounded cryptic to the rest of the team.
"Kid, of course there is. We'll help you get her back." Morgan placed a hand on his shoulder, effectively shocking him back to the present situation.
"There's no need to split up because she's here. She's in Montana." Before he could continue, everyone was asking questions.
"Give me a phone number and I'll get you a location." Garcia was already typing away again.
"Are you sure she's here?" JJ's brows furrowed. She did her best to hide the hurt of her best friend hiding his girlfriend from her, again.
"Why would she be here?" Rossi added.
"How did she get here? Maybe we can track the transportation and figure out means of abduction." Emily was the only one thinking about the case.
Like ripping off a bandaid, Spencer blurted out the truth.
"It's Y/N."
He was met with silence in the room as everyone absorbed the information.
Garcia caught up first, a sudden gasp sounding through the phone.
"So, then that's Y/N... in the video..." Her voice wavered.
As if a switch was flipped, the team was back on the case.
"Garcia, get me a list of anyone who would have a grievance with the team." Hotch ordered.
"Go through anyone who was falsely accused. Start with cases in or around Montana. He would want to keep this close to home." Rossi specified.
"We've only had one case in Montana since Y/N joined the team." Reid supplied the knowledge as it came to him. "A name, I need a name." He muttered to himself, pulling his hair as he roughly ran his hands through it and over his face. "Garcia, look into Jameson Braddock."
"Got it." She immediately began a background check, searching through case files and news articles for additional information. "i'll get back to you with locations." With that, she hung up.
"Fill us in, kid. Who is Jameson Braddock." Morgan lead Reid to a chair, gently easing him into it.
"Our last case in Montana, Emily and I went to interview a witness." Emily nodded, the memories slowly coming back to her.
"He wasn't very forthcoming, and then he tried to run." She added on.
"Exactly, except he didn't make it very fair. We arrested him, but it turned out he was only guilty of selling alcohol to minors. When word of his arrest got out, the whole town thought it was for the serial rapes and murders we were investigating even though it was never confirmed."
"By the time we corrected the media, it was too late." JJ supplied, also remembering the man.
"So, he killed three officers just to draw us out back out here?" Morgan refocused the conversation on the current case.
"It looks that way now. The media knew we were coming, so he must have as well." Emily theororized. "If he followed us from the airport, he would've seen Y/N leave by herself."
"He likely didn't know about your relationship until he abducted her and went through her phone." Hotch paced the room.
"He's flaunting his power over us." Rossi chimed in just as Hotch's phone rang again.
"Garcia, what've you got?"
"Three addresses in Billings, Montana. Jameson Braddock has been on a downward spiral since your last trip there. His entire life fell apart, like he said. Divorced, his wife moved to Nebraska with their two kids. He lost his job at the high school, and was evicted from his house when he could no longer pay the bills." She listed the information quickly.
"He has ties to three addresses. Nobody has moved into his previous house, so it's vacant. He's got a small apartment in the northern part of the city which he pays for through working odd hours at Taco Bell. Finally, he briefly worked security at a now abandoned warehouse."
"An apartment wouldn't be enough space to hold her without the chance of someone hearing. She's not there." Rossi eliminated the location as an option.
"We'll split up to cover the warehouse and the house-" Hotch began, but Reid cut him off.
"No, we shouldn't split up. She's got to be at the house. The warehouse has no connection to his previous life. He wants revenge for our perceived wrongdoing, he wouldn't make his last stand at a new location." Reid was already putting on a bullet proof vest. Despite how his mind was racing, he refused to show how afraid he was.
"You're sure?" Morgan asked, on the fence about committing to one location.
"Absolutely." With that, Reid was out the door heading for the SUVs.
-
"Rossi, Emily head around back. I'll take the front with Reid. JJ and Morgan, the side door." Hotch instructed the team to split up upon arrival at the house.
Reid wasted no time in approaching the house. He was confident you were inside, but he didn't know what was happening to you.
The main floor was cleared quickly. Again, the team split up to cover the upper level and the basement.
Knowing you were likely downstairs, Reid immediately started that direction, JJ and Hotch following him.
It wasn't hard for him to find you. You were still tied to the chair in the middle of the room, bag over your head.
Before anyone could stop him, Reid lowered his gun and ran to you. He gently maneuvered the bag off your head, stopping his movements only when he felt something press into his back.
"Dr. Reid. So kind of you to join us." Braddock spoke maniacally, pressing the gun against Reid's head.
"Drop your weapon." Hotch commanded, but the man only cackled in response.
'Y/N... Y/N." Reid gently shook you in an attempt to wake you up.
"She can't hear you." Braddock singsonged.
"What did you do?" Reid tried to turn to him only to feel the gun press further into his head.
"Like I said in my email, you people ruined my life. They took everything from me, so I thought I'd try to return the favor." During his short speech, Braddock shifted just enough for JJ to get a clean shot.
He fell to the ground, gun clattering across the floor.
Reid moved quickly to remove the tape binding you to the chair while Hotch called for a medic in the basement.
The entire team watched as you were wheeled into the ambulance, still unconscious, none more scared than Spencer.
-
"She's going to be fine, Spence." JJ tried to reassure him, nonetheless his pacing continued.
"You don't know that. We don't even know what he did to her." He had one hand anxiously running through his hair, the other pinching the bridge of his nose in distress.
Just then, a doctor emerged from behind closed doors.
"F/N L/N." She called into the waiting room, slightly taken aback when the group of agents rushed to her.
"It was touch and go for a while, but she got here just in time." It was visible to even the least qualified profiler how relieved the team felt. Their previously tense shoulders relaxed, frowns turned to small smiles, wide eyes and raised brows pinched together with joy.
"What happened?" Emily posed the question everyone was thinking.
"In short, she was drugged. It's not clear what exactly was used, but it was likely a mix of drugs that attempted to stop her heart."
"Can we see her?" Morgan spoke next, cautiously eyeing Reid.
"You may, follow me." The doctor lead them through a series of hallways to your room. "She should be waking up soon."
With that the doctor left, allowing the team to file into the room. You looked strangely peaceful for someone who almost died.
"So..." JJ glanced between you and Spencer. "Girlfriend, huh?"
His eyes went wide. Instinctively, he turned to you for help, but you were still asleep. He opened his mouth to answer, but no words came out.
"Relax, kid." Morgan grinned. "We're happy as long as you two are happy."
Spencer smiled gratefully, looking at you with an adoring gaze. "We are happy."
"How long?' Emily gestured to your joined hands. Just before Spencer could answer, you groaned.
"I want to hear your guesses first." Your voice was raspy, but there was a clear smile on your face. "Also, what happened?"
The quickly explained the email Garcia received and the events that followed.
"Now that that's cleared up, do tell us how long you think we've been together. I know you've got a bet going." You narrowed your eyes, playfully glaring at each team member.
"4 months." Hotch begrudgingly admitted. JJ followed with 3 months, Derek and Rossi both betting 10 weeks, and Emily going with 6 weeks.
"Ha, you're all wrong." You smiled triumphantly, leaning closer to Spencer.
"Wait, we haven't heard from Garcia." Derek smirked as he rung her on speaker phone.
"Oh, my beautiful crime fighters. Y/N, are you okay?" Your smile widened at the concern in her voice.
"I am indeed, but I have a very important question for you." You glanced as Spencer briefly before continuing. "How long do you think Spence and I have been together?"
"Oh, I know this one!" Her excitement caught everyone but you off guard. "7 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days."
Spencer's jaw dropped as he stuttered out, "that's exactly right..."
"How'd you figure it out?" The group of profilers wore matching expressions of surprise as Penelope explained.
"Well, we had just finished testifying in the Bigelow trial. The whole team went out for drinks, and I could just see it in Y/N's eyes the next day that something wonderful happened. At first I just thought that she got some, but then I saw her and the good doctor in the kitchen getting coffee and I knew." Penelope's voice held a mixture of smugness and pure excitement.
"Babygirl, you didn't tell me?" Derek sounded genuinely offended.
"Y/N asked me not to." Even though you couldn't see her, you knew she punctuated the statement with a shrug.
"You knew, she knew?" Spencer turned to you in shock.
You nodded. "I could see it on her face the second I walked out of the kitchen. But she promised not to tell, so I didn't either."
"The two of you, thick as thieves." Rossi lamented.
"I love you so much." Spencer whispered into your ear as he pulled you in for a hug.
"I love you too." You whispered right back.
"Honestly, I'm glad the secret's out." You smiled at Spencer before looking at the rest of the team. "Although, I wish I didn't have to be kidnapped to tell you."
You spent a few more hours in the hospital before being cleared to go back to the hotel.
The next morning, you smiled to yourself as you were finally able to cuddle with Spencer during the flight home.
