Hi Angell, I was wondering what your Arcane ships were?

I think I'm super basic except for one, but I am a multishipper at heart so anything here goes.

Piltover's Finest/Caitvi - shipped them since high school where some of my friends introduced me to League, which I played once before I decided it was not for me, but safe to say I've been shipping them for a long time and couldn't be happier that they're canon

Meljay - love them so much, they're really soft around each other, I like how Jayce brings out Mel's more tender side and manages to get around the armor of the politician she made around herself, and I like how protective Mel gets of Jayce and comforts him when he needs it

Jayvik - always a sucker for a good co-workers to lovers dynamic, they compliment each other in a lot of ways and I think they have such devotion to each other, cause even if you look at them as completely platonic the affection and devotion is still there no matter what

Meljayvik - let Mel have her two nerds and love them, not to mention that Mel and Viktor are foils to each other in many ways, in terms of color and narrative, and Jayce holds them together with his big strong, buff arms, plus it feels like they would all feel the need to take care of each other when they get overworked

Skyvik - we all know Sky had a crush on Viktor for a long time but he was too much of a workaholic nerd to notice, that being said s2 gave me so much with them, and I don't think Viktor lied at at all when he said he was gonna miss Sky's company and talking with her

Timebomb - friends to lovers, childhood friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, doomed by the narrative, this ship has it all and is canon in a alternate reality, I will never not love the bond these two have and how they manage to pull each other up when they need it

Lightcannon - I was always a fan of Lux and Jinx, again since high school and they were the second ship I shipped in the fandom, they haven't met in the animated universe (yet) but they are best friends and classmates in the Magical Girl timeline, and there are implications that Jinx has a crush on Lux there

Piltover's Finest Spy - now is one I that took me by complete surprise but as someone who loves Maddie this is me being delusional, I'm not saying she still can't be evil, but this has potential for angst, redemption, and a hot threesome, what more do I need to say

I totally forgot to post anything here, but I've been working on some more Bucktommy stories. Actually made it a collection on ao3. They all take place in the same continuity and are sorted chronologically, but each story can be read independently.

I had already posted the link to "But in this life I met you", it's about Tommy who, some months into his relationship with Buck, starts questioning his and and Eddie's respective places in Buck's life (3.6k, Bucktommy endgame).

"Tommy meets Evan" is a very short story about the first couple of times Tommy runs into Buck from Tommy's pov (1.3k).

Right now I'm working on "Love and Lack thereof" which is basically a "Tommy begins" type of story. Covers his childhood, his time in the army, his coming back to LA and finding a place for himself. (2/4 chapters are online, will have about 8-10k once it's finished)

I was also working on a story where Tommy and Karen bond and have a conversation about kids, but I got sidetracked and am working on that other fic right now.

Also possibly gonna do a "Tommy realises he's in capital L Love with Evan, but it's way to early and he promised to take it slow, what is he supposed to do?" story. (Would also feature Henren.)

regarding my last reblog genuinely i think the reason why people are able to take creek and bunny and make them very much ugu kya !! >< ships is because there is not a Big Contestant against them.

that isnt a bad thing but i think it means that people dont have to think as hard about them in a grander scale? i rarely see character analysis for those ships (bunny gets it sometimes which i appreciate seeing) because they just Are Canon (or are so fanon-loved that theyre basically canon)

style and kyman are ships that people have been Fighting over for 20+ years, because a lot of people arent multishippers, and a lot of kyman shippers were seen as bad by style shippers (and the wider fandom in general) for a very long time/some still have that viewpoint.

so the people who make fic content have this... like need to prove why their ship is worthy? which means adding extra complexity and over analyzing canon and digging into their minds a lot more. idk this might not make perfect sense but i think that the Fight for supremacy has bolstered both ships into being fucking Fascinating from a development standpoint.

and this also applies to kenny/butters/tweek/craig rarepairs. they have to be Compelling and Evidenced in order to have a footing against creek and bunny. but no one is trying to actually FIGHT creek and bunny (good! leave them alone) so those writers don't have to overthink making their stuff deep and compelling. they have the freedom to go ugu kyaaa as much as they want because its the canon/basically canon ship and people will eat it up anyways.

Istg I love being a multishipper. I just get to have my cakes and eat them too every single time!!! For example:

Tar4 in the classic era of SMG4. They’re both a little awkward and shy with SMG4 trying to rizz up Tari and failing in the most pathetic way, but she finds it cute. They’re both bi messes and really like eachother! However, after a while, they realise that they’re better off as friends and end things amicably.

After this, SMG4 starts to explore his bisexuality a little more with Mario who has always implied that he’s into him. They have a fwb type of thing going on and sometimes peach would get involved too bc those three definitely had something going on. After a while, things sizzle out and they all go back to just being friends.

A few years later, YouTube arc, SMG3 is flirtatious with Mario, who doesn’t reject his advances. They probably sleep together once or twice but never speak of it.

Give it a few years and SMG4 has a little crush on Melony. Who can blame him? She’s adorable as hell, really enthusiastic and sweet. After his first redesign, Melony thinks he’s pretty cute as well and they go out on a few dates but probably never become official.

Then, it’s gotta be perfect happens and it’s just SMG34 galore. Mario occasionally gets involved too, especially around WOTFI 2023 and all three of them have something going on. Eventually he moved on to Puzzles though, Tari is with Meggy after she finally got over Desti, Melony with Saiko, SMG3 with SMG4, and they all live happily ever after!

A few months ago before Western Spaghetti however, Wren and Mr Puzzles had some sort of fwb arrangement. It was meaningless to Puzzles but Wren had always hinted to him that he wanted something more from their relationship. Alas, he died before he could ever get that and then, in the afterlife, he ran into Niles. They bonded over their shared experiences:

And in the end, decided to play Wren’s twisted Western Shootout game for all eternity against one another. Finally having an opponent who could give them a challenge and under them. They get together after a few months but continue to kill eachother most days for all eternity. And they love it.

OH HI HELLO so i read this post by @toofkin and immediately had to do this. does this count as my first aftg proper oneshot ??? also my little multishipper jerejean heart was protesting the entire time that i wasn't making this about them 📚 read it on ao3

They walked into the study for privacy, shutting the door behind them and Jean headed straight for his desk, pausing only when he reached it, stomach plummetting.

The magnets from his desk drawer were laid out in a line on the wooden surface, painstakingly pieced back together, every missing piece had been replaced with ceramic that had been painted gold. They looked like that Japanese art and they made Jean's throat constrict as his eyes dropped to the note next to them in Jeremy's now-familiar scrawl: 'Read something about Kintsugi and how broken things are not something to hide but to display with pride. Well done with the interview.'

And like a shadow he couldn't ever leave behind, the voice at his shoulder was quiet with amazement, "You kept these?"

Jean wanted to throw them in the trash and kiss every single one and he wanted to crumple up Jeremy's note or kiss that, too. He was overwhelmed and overstimulated and out of breath as he refused to look back to Kevin's stoic curiosity. "You know as well as I do it's not like I owned much else." His voice was tense, sharp, defensive.

It was more than that, and he thought Kevin once knew that too, maybe. There'd been intention in the way he'd pressed each and every single one into his palm on his returns. A promise imbued in the figurines. They had meant everything to him, and they too had been destroyed in the wake of the two people hell bent on making his life miserable with their rash, mindless actions.

Everything had crumbled around them. The interview had been a nightmare and Jean hated how much reassurance he'd felt having Kevin beside him How at ease he seemed in front of cameras and microphones and how broken it made him seem standing next to him. Hated how much it had always felt like that, time and again, like his nightmares could be kept at bay as long as Kevin was there. Until he hadn't been.

A scarred hand reached into his line of vision and picked up one of the magnets, turning it this way and that. Heart at his throat, Jean snatched at Kevin's wrist, shoving it back down against the desk as he turned around to face him, ice in his veins.

Kevin's expression was indescipherable as he loosened his hold and let the magnet clatter softly out of his reach.

"Jeremy is kind."

"Don't."

Kevin had the decency to drop it, though his eyes didn't waver off his face. His gaze had always felt intense and unbreakable on him, and Jean was more often than not the one to break. This time he held his chin up, defiant.

At last, Kevin blew out a breath and said, "It's better this way. We're in the clear and Edgar Allan will start over. The rest of them will learn, and we'll be okay."

His conviction ought to have been more contagious, but Jean had had a skeptical nature beaten into him for too long to let himself be wooed by optimistic hopes. He prodded at the relief in Kevin's tone. "Is this how you assuage your guilt? You think this undoes the rest of it?"

That at least seemed to crack through Kevin's facade. "I already apologised."

Jean laughed. It was humourless and short. To think that one 'I'm sorry', no matter how sincere he believed it to be, could make up for what Kevin had done to him was laughable. Everything about this was laughable and he wanted to stay far, far away from it. The urge to walk out of the room pressed at him. "It's not enough."

"What would be?" Kevin asked instead, quiet and determined.

"Nothing," Jean snapped back. "You'll just have to live with it the way I do." And it was rich, really, that Kevin wanted to get rid of all the ugliness that tainted their history just like that.

"I had to," was the response he got, urgent and hushed and charged with the usual kind of tense emotion in Kevin's tone. "You must understand that. No one was dragging me out of there—"

"I didn't ask for that!" Jean cut him off, eyes flashing as his blood boiled and he pushed away thoughts of rainbow hair and kind, understanding silences.

Kevin was unfazed. "No, I asked it for you. I found someone to get through to you because I knew you were never going to listen to me. You still don't listen to me."

A choked off sound almost escaped Jean's lips, and he lifted his hands up to his chest, neck, dragged his fingers over his face. Warm fingers wrapped around his wrists almost immediately and pulled his hands down firmly and he resolutely looked over Kevin's shoulder.

"Jean," was the insistent word that cut through his racing thoughts. "I'm sorry. I am. I've hated myself for leaving you behind like that. I didn't know what else to do. You were never going to leave with me—"

"You could have asked."

It cut through the tension, surprising enough that Kevin's hands loosened on his wrists again, and he stared back at him. Jean regretted it immediately. The way words left his lips unbidden were going to be the death of him. He didn't even know how much of that was true. Even if Kevin had asked, could he really say he would have gone with him? Betrayed everything he believed in for a chance at... No. Sucking in a sharp breath, he fixed his stare on the wall. "Everything I did, I did for you. You trampled on that when—"

"Why?" Kevin asked, frustration creeping into his voice at last, and Jean ought to have felt some satisfaction in that, except he didn't. "You had as much right as I did to protect yourself—"

"It was supposed to be us against him. Our pact. Our secret. I trusted you with everything I had and you spat in my fucking face."

"That's not—"

But Jean was incensed too, finally drawing his gaze back to glare at the boy in front of him. "And I fucking took it. I took it all so you wouldn't have to."

Kevin was staring at him like he was written in glyphs he didn't understand. "Why?"

And another choked off laugh barely escaped before he shouted, unbidden and uncalled for, "BECAUSE I LOVED YOU!" The words rang at Kevin's face, the tension in the air shattering between them like shards of glass that turned in and pierced his heart through a hundred times. Breath escaped him and for a split second, Jean thought he would die, that it would simply never come back and he would choke on the words that had wrecked their way through his deepest secrets and into this moment.

If Jean hadn't been looking at him so intently, he would have missed the way Kevin's eyes widened imperceptibly before they softened again and his frown deepend and his gaze flickered between his own eyes—left, right, left, right, left—as he searched for something there or thoughts of his own raced in his head and he thought maybe Kevin also stopped breathing and maybe it was because all the air had been sucked out of the room without mercy.

Mercy had always been a pipe dream, anyway.

He dropped his gaze away from him as a shuddery breath rippled through his chest and his fingers curled into his palms, fingernails digging at the soft flesh there as his ears rang with the silence. It landed on the bear with the beret and the golden lines coursing through it and his chest clenched and clenched with pain he hadn't allowed himself to feel in what felt like years.

Then there was a hand on his chin pulling him back, and Jean had no choice but to look up at Kevin's face, that steely determination he was so used to seeing in his eyes and he wanted to take it all back and he wanted to yell at him and he wanted to shove him on a plane never to set foot in California again and he—

There was a split second that hung for longer than it should have as Jean watched Kevin's eyes drop to his mouth and then the air between them collapsed as Kevin stepped up and crashed his mouth against his.

It was so unexpected, so nothing at all like what Jean had ever convinced himself would happen between them that it took him a moment to recover. He was frozen, heart at his throat, beating so hard he thought he would throw it up as everything came rushing back and out.

Another broken inhale shook his shoulders and Kevin pulled back, hands on his face to search his expression. "...was that okay? I didn't—"

Jean's breath left him again as he unlocked his fists and grasped at the front of Kevin's shirt to yank him forward again and kiss him again. Kiss him properly, with every intention he'd ever harboured and the permission he'd been granted and the avalanche of hearbreak and misery and battered hope that clung to every feeling he'd ever had about the boy in front of him. Kevin kissed him back, hands gripping at his face, sliding into his hair, holding him in place as every whisper in dark corners and every shared look and every ounce of pain they'd suffered together and alongside each other and because of each other twisted up into this one desperate moment.

"I'm here," Kevin whispered against his lips in French, breathless too in a way that made Jean's head dizzy. "We're here. Let me be enough now." He swallowed. "Please."

Jean's fingers twisted in Kevin's shirt, he pressed his nose deep into his cheek, threw himself in headfirst once more, and nodded.

I'm so jealous of multishippers. Once I find my OTP for certain characters then I really do mean One True Pairing, as in I can't imagine them being with anyone else. I think it'd be a lot of fun and less trouble to be able to see another pairing and be like hell yeah more content but I just can't do it 💀 Doesn't help that my OTP is a rarepair compared to another ship involving one of the characters. I make most of the stuff for my ship and I've met a few people who also like them, but always in tandem with that other ship. I don't try to give them trouble for it ofc, but I can't help but think it'd be nice to have someone to talk to who doesn't get sidetracked by another pairing

Nichya, your post about the way Zutarians view Katara struck a huge chord in me. 1 month ago, I was a naive multishipper who had just finished ATLA and was looking for good fics to read. Went on A03 and saw there were a lot of Zutara fics, sorted them out by kudos to see what the 10 most top-rated fics were. Katara is my favourite character, so I was really excited to see her post-canon life.

And. Oh, man. The experience was so fucking weird. I expected a lot of happy Katara fics, because canonically she IS really happy -the war is over, her family is reunited, her best friends Aang and Toph are alive, she can go home now to rebuild her tribe. That's NOT what I got.

The top-rated one was about how invisible and marginalised she felt being Aang's gf, and how she escaped it to be a world changing politician...in the fire nation??? When canonically Aang supported every one of her ambitions and all she wanted to do is restore her tribe?? Don't get me started on how the fic had Sokka, Toph, even Gran Gran all villanised Aang and blamed him for Katara's oppression.

Another one was a typical forced-marriage with Zuko because of duty?? And she and Zuko had children and her kids found 12 year old Aang??? Not even going to touch that one.

The 3rd was that Zuko pointed out to Katara how she fussed and looked after Aang as a mom or older sister, and Katara agreed she "coddled him". (did they miss the part when Miss Katara was a trouble-maker and Aang had to save her everytime?? And she canonically thought of Aang as the leader in the group???)

Another one was how Kataang had broken up, but Aang was still waiting for her and "hoped to marry her one day" and she was so indignant she fell into Zuko's sexy arms. (I literally laughed out loud at this, because canonically Katara was incredibly jealous of Aang's fangirls from S1 and Aang never gave af about Jet)

One incredibly gross one when Katara marries Aang out of duty because "she cannot break his heart" but always loved Zuko. KATARA. The girl who was ready to abandon her tribe to learn waterbending in ep.1!

And 2 more forced marriages, one where Katara is Zuko's captive and pawn of war, and they have sex literally when she's still a prisoner of HIM.

Like. I cannot tell you how shocked I was. It really disgusted me. I promise I did not know anything about Zutara before that.

It was obviously my mistake, clearly Zutara isn't meant for me. People can write whatever they want, I'm not here to police anyone's fandom.

But I was just struck by how much Katara was unhappy and so cut off from her canon best friends (Aang, Toph) and loving family (her tribe, Sokka, Hakoda).

Either she was cut off through force (forced marriage, captivity). Or because she personally felt secretly resentful and jealous of Aang, "parentified" and burdened by Sokka, disgusyed by her misogynistic tribe...

And how no one understood her except for Zuko. No one could give her the tools to empower herself except for Zuko. Only in the Fire Nation can she be independent and free.

It just felt so wrong!!!! I gave up. I couldn't stand to see Katara so resentful, bitter, and sad with her canon life unless she marries Zuko.

Anyway. Thanks for the blog. And for writing such insightful posts. It really articulated my discomfort.

Once again: for people who claim to be "the TRUE Katara fans", Zutairans hate everything about her character and arc, especially how happy she ended up being. Half the misery they put her through almost feels like trying punish her for not jumping straight into Zuko's arms.

yknow i say im a huge multishipper but i wouldnt actually consider myself much of a shipper at all. just open to the idea of trying everything once. the term has typically romantic connotations and follows the assumption that i think, and want, these characters to be good for eachother.

I'm, personally, less interested in the prexisting chemistry than i am in the puzzle of figuring out what differing circumstances could potentially cause two characters who have seemingly nothing in common to become eachothers everything.

This could explain my favorism towards rarepairs and more convoluted dynamics, and my aversion to popular, fluffy pairings that have already been explored a thousand times over, there's no work for me to do there.

Not to mention that when a ship becomes too popular it starts cannibalising itself, and lots of good, interesting characterisations are lost in the sea of people bending characters into pre-orchestrated, saccharine dynamics. alot of which are usually downright fetishy in nature, particularly in mlm pairings.

I mean i would say being able to get ooc and self indulgent is downright mandatory for making a good fic, but there's only so many times i have to read a fic about a big, overprotective, manly-man top who does all the work and the shy, small, swoony, softhearted femme-wifey-bottom before it starts to just be lazy.

I actively have to go out of my way to search 'switch' tags if i want true-to-the-character, mutual emotional reciprocation. which i really, really shouldn't have to do as an ace person who actively skips through nsfw.

And it's not that popular wlw pairings aren't guilty of these problems aswell, but those tend to lean more into the 'soft lesbians who can do no wrong' stereotype, which always completely (butch)ers all nuisance that makes the ship worth shipping in the first place.

As well as that's if they're even the focus of the story at all and aren't just shoved to the side by the main mlm couple. mlw pairings can be culpable of both these things, with the added risk that you find out the author made a twitter post with the characters in front of the 'super straight' flag.

Though i also wonder if me being aspec plays any part as again; im not as interested in the romantic aspects as i am in the possible hurdles they may face throughout the potential relationship.

Anyone else feel like this?

Listen. I love the idea of buddie. Always have, always will.

But uh…the amount of CHEMISTRY between Buck and Tommy just…it‘s off the fucking charts, okay? So I guess I am a multishipper now. Would I like buddie to happen? Yeah, sure. Do I absolutely ADORE Buck and Tommy together? Hell yes.

Tommy‘s gentleness and how obviously smitten he is with our favorite idiot / golden retriever is so so cute. He seems so genuine and so willing to let Buck go at his own pace. And as I said, their chemistry is off the charts. Whoever made the decision to bring Lou back for this was a genius. Him and Oliver have a perfect back and forth and play the heck out of this storyline.

I would really love to see more of that. Let them date. Let them fall in love. Let them be HAPPY.

I don‘t think the relationship will be ‚endgame‘, mostly because Buck is Buck and 911 can‘t only have functional couples (it is a drama after all), but I hope we‘ll get to keep it for a while. It‘s such a beautiful queer storyline and I hope we get to see a lot of Buck being happy and having the chance to discover new things about himself more.

I always always always come back to that weird little reveal that when they were first floating the idea to bring Tommy back, they said it was to do a storyline with Eddie and it got switched to Buck because it was too weird or tricky to have them both break up with their LIs offscreen but only one actress could come back.

Because a stepping stone relationship makes perfect sense for Eddie. Something short and intense with angst and softness for him to get to this moment of letting himself feel joy and to taste how truly good it can be. He didn't need an endgame relationship right now. He did need to have his "first."

Buck didn't need that. Buck is absolutely ready for his forever and he has been for a while and giving him the "inviting Natalia to move in and then catching his own bad habit for once and backing out" would have been great.

But that didn't happen. Instead Eddie had to sit like a hot dog on one of those rolling warmers for a season while Buck started the queer dominos falling (and I admit this is a little bit from a Buddie endgame perspective because it doesn't feel to me like the show was deciding to explore the a character's sexuality just for exploratory purposes and I'm willing to admit I have a blind spot here.)

And honestly I think the fact that Oliver cares so much about Buck and telling this story well both for the character and everyone who sees himself in him and that Lou met that energy turned the storyline and the relationship into a more beautiful beginning than it would have been in the hands of other actors.

Which gave the show it's next problem. Because we can all see that Buck is ready for his forever love and you introduced a new love interest and then instead of sticking to a few episodes of awakening and moving on, I think they saw that people were starving for it and latched onto it and Tommy harder than they expected. So it's an easy thing to do to milk that for a little bit longer, but it was absolutely the wrong choice because people got invested in a way they wouldn't have if this had ended after the original number of episodes we expected.

And Buck and Tommy worked! I think you can nitpick relationship things if you weren't that into it and write a breakup narrative using those seeds, but their puzzle pieces absolutely fit together. So much so that they definitely had forever after potential that everyone could see and a lot of people were excited about and investing in and oops wait that wasn't the plan.

So what do you do? You either abandon the plan and embrace the accidental beauty that you discovered and let it ride or you write your way out of it. Give them some hurdles, some angst. Give them a tear-jerking breakup that respects what you built and the viewers who are invested in it and slowly work your way back to where you wanted to be.

They didn't write their way out of it.

And I so don't want to believe that after the work the actors put in and the viewer feedback that they were still viewing the relationship as a placeholder ready to be yeeted once Eddie's arc got back in position again, but I'm not sure what the alternatives are?

Either it's being talked about that this is the last season and so if they're really doing buddie then it's now or never? Or actually the internet is not a valid reflection of the viewership as a whole and someone from on high said the plug should be pulled?

Or the storyline was stumbled into and fumbled around from the beginning and never treated with as much care by the people in charge of it as it was by the people who loved it.

IDK it's just messy messy storytelling and I say that as someone who is not a multishipper but who does value a good story and a good narrative. They let the relationship go on for too long to end it so abruptly. If there was going to be a breakup, there was a better one to be had and it doesn't make me feel good that my preferred happy ending could come from one that breaks the heart of so many of my friends. And if it isn't in the service of a bigger, already in motion endgame, literally what the fuck?
