i fucking need to talk about "on your side" by the last dinner party, like this music just alterned my brain chemistry. It's a masterpiece and nobody talks about it, just go listen to it and you'll become obsess (just the band alterned my brain)

the feminine urge this, nothing matters that. where is the love for on your side??? @cowboylikewren and i listened to it together and we both went "oh now it's a sad one" WHICH LIKE ????? sure it's sad, it's heartbreaking, but it's beautiful too. it's about the love left in something broken, the promise to hold each other together, to still know each other deeply when you no longer know each other superficially. it's "i don't know what your favourite colour is anymore, but i know exactly how you will respond to the world being pulled out from underneath you.". on your side is the most heartwrenching, tragic, awful promise. it's the oath to hold onto someone even when it hurts, the ease of running to someone who you tried to stay away from when they need you. it's about being *on their side*, even if they might have been in the wrong, even if it takes all night. and this isn't to put any of the other songs down, because they're each so complex and incredible on their own, but i feel that i, at least, took a sad song at face value and haven't given it the recognition and understanding it deserves. prelude to ecstasy is such a mindblowing album that it's almost hard to comprehend every song in its entirety for a lack of emotional space. but there's something so beautiful about saying "my heart may be broken, but i promise to hold your hand when you ask me to come running. i cannot be your everything anymore, but i will be this."
