If you would but indulge this fandom elder for a few moments, I'd like to point out a few things that I think can make all of our fannish experiences on this hellsite (affectionate) so much more joyful.

Try not to treat yourself or others as "content-providers."

This happens when you allow yourself to be influenced by real or imagined expectations and demands of others. "But I know people want..." "But people would expect me to..." "But they might not like it if I..." "It's been too long since I've written/posted anything..." "What if people get upset if I..." These are the joy killers. The only questions you should ask yourself when posting stuff to tumblr (or not) is "does this bring me joy right now?" and "would this cause harm?" That's it. You can also tag liberally so people can block stuff if they want. That's also a nice thoughtful thing to do. But try not to let the nebulous concept of "people"--your followers, your readers, the internet at large, or whatever--become a bogeyman in your own head. Most of us already have enough internal critics trying to trip us up at any given moment. Try not to invent more.

Treating others as "content-providers" happens if you send asks or comments to someone on this site demanding more content of a specific type, or insinuating that you are entitled to something from that person. You are communicating to that person that they only have value as a content-provider, and only when providing whatever it is you want. This is dehumanizing and ignores the thousands of reasons that person might choose to be here. Tumblr is not a subscription service. No one is paying for anything here. Most people here are just doing stuff that makes them joyful and we are lucky enough that sometimes they share it with us too!

2. Fandom is not a marriage.

The concept of "being in a fandom" is actually incredibly nebulous, as it should be! There is nothing you need to do or declare to be "in a fandom." There is no minimum threshold of love, or time, or interaction, or "production." It's just a feeling. A place. A space that brings joy. (And sometimes, heartbreak, but that's another topic all together.)

Fandom is also not a marriage. You can't cheat on a fandom. You do not have to have formal divorce proceedings and let go of one fandom before messing around with another one. There's no such thing as fandom infidelity. Neither is fandom a job. You don't have to give two weeks' notice. You don't have to post public intent on the town hall. You're not banned once you step out, never to return. You can "take a break" without any moral implications or risk of becoming the focus of a pop culture debate about whether or not you were justified to mess around with another fandom during that time. You can leave a fandom and never go back, all without having to consciously decide to do so. You can fall out of love with a fandom and then fall back in love with it later. It's not a marriage/job! There are no rules!

3. Take ownership and curate your own experience.

If there is a thing, or a blog, or a person who once brought you joy, but on balance no longer does, or makes you more disappointed or annoyed or upset than not, you do not have to keep interacting with them/it. Following someone on tumblr is also not a marriage. You can follow/unfollow as you like, no harm, no foul. It's just curating your personal joy, and I hope we will always wish each other the best with that. If you are scared of "missing out on something," then you will either need to block tags enough to make it enjoyable, or decide unfollowing is worth the risk if it makes you too unhappy to keep following!

The ultimate thing is, it's up to you to curate your fannish experience. It is not up to the person you are following to change to fit your expectations or hopes. (See point #1.) You can feel ways about this, of course! But those are your feelings, which are yours to handle. Do not put them on the other person. Do not send them asks demanding things or lashing out. It won't make you feel better and it definitely won't get you what you are looking for, unless your actual aim is to kill the joy of another person so you are not upset alone. In that case I'm not sure what to tell you other than you might want to spend some time meditating on that one and think about if that's really the kind of person you want to be. Or if this kind of space is actually good for you.

This user has spent over 7 years shit posting hate directly into the reylo fandom's tag instead of doing literally anything else to make their own fandom more enjoyable for themselves.

That's weird shit.

What has been hellish is being in this fandom for over 9 years and dealing with the amount of uncalled for vitriol at this very fucking plain flavor baby's first enemies-to-lovers ship.

I only started keeping track of the death threats back in September 2022

It's not even been a full 2 years and I'm nearing 1000.

This is the header for my Tumblr. This is a real number by the way I have every death threat I've gotten since starting this documented on my computer.

It's actually 955 because thepettycunt here just sent me a new death threat so now I gotta update the banner.

You can find that 'reaction' video John made to the reylos on google and watch it yourself. No one is being racist but they are all asking him to stop making sex jokes on his female coworkers behalf and expressing disappointment in him. In fact he even had to reused quite a few of the quotes because I think about halfway through making the video he realized he just didn't have that much material and the things people were saying were pretty fucking mild.

And I'm not sorry. Asking a adult man to hold himself accountable for the shit he says is not on the same level as the far fucking worse shit the over arching star wars fandom has done well before reylo was even a twinkle in anyone's eye

Observing Tumblr bugs

So I did some more work digging and observing around on tumblr wondering why posts are missing in on dashboard search tags, since you know? You have the power to search for terms in a post or tags on the dashboard. I also noticed that some posts don’t show up at all..

UPDATE 2/13/2020: Gonna update this post. As a warning, retweets of the post don’t have updated info

So, for WordPress when post don’t show up, you would change the date the post was made (The current time and date) and it would be added back to WordPress search where everyone can see it.

With WordPress, It’s a very easy fix to deal with. Not really a problem when you think about it.

Now with Tumblr, Dear lord. I can kinda see why Tumblr is seen as a hellsite.. Mainly for the issue, the site breaking search engine. It’s a mess..

So, for tumblr, it’s very different. Things I noticed.

A notice: Should go without saying but if your blog and posts are adult themed and not meant for anyone but adults, your posts will never show up. You can show a like of things but porn is a no go here.

1. There are some tags on Tumblr that will show your post for 10 mins+ before removing the post from the tags recent tab. If your post is popular (I.E. 3 notes or more) It will still show up there.

The tags I know where this happens is the tags “Twitter”, “WordPress” Let me know if you know of any other tags that act like this.

1.2 There are times when your post has 5 main tags but they won’t or don’t show up in search or tags. Retagging works in some cases but most of the time, it does not work.

2. Sometimes when you have 5 tags you want your post to be found in dashboard search, they just don’t show up. Sometimes if they showup, they show up on a new post (i.e. Re-upload) with the same tags will fix the problem.

2.1 Please remember this, as it may be another reason. If you have links in your post that are blacklisted, remove them. I can not say if having blacklisted links after the URL ban dropped may affect your post in the future or not.

Tags make it easier for readers to find posts about a specific topic on your blog. For instance, you could tag your landscape photographs with #landscape or posts about your butler with #butler. Tagging your posts is as easy as you’d expect. When you create a post, enter the tags in the field at the bottom of the post form.

Tips:

You don't need to put a tag in quotes or start with a hash symbol (#).

Hit enter to separate each tag.

Only the first 20 tags on a post will show up in searches. After that, you’re just tagging for show.

Tags on Tumblr can have spaces in them. They are the most legible tags on the internet. Hooray! - Tagging your posts

3 It also seems the URL ban + being able to search posts for terms in the post or tags has had a weird effect on posts. Reblogs don’t count, as they only show up on your blog and not searchable

I was looking in a part of tumblr called “tags not working” and I’m not the only one with this issue. Some post seems to suggest the election day and/or tumblr tag system is broken (No shock about it being broken)

Search for multiple tags or terms

To search for multiple tags or terms, all you have to do is use the right syntax. For example:

picnic lunch - returns posts with the terms “picnic” and “lunch” anywhere (e.g., #picnic basket, or #lunch break, or a post using the word picnic).

#picnic lunch - returns posts with the #picnic lunch tag.

#picnic #lunch - returns posts with both #picnic AND #lunch tags.

There is a 4th option that a user or bot may have reported your post for spam or mass Automation by a user/bot. (If you post too much) If you use tags that someone thinks is not fitting for a post of yours or if you used any import tools to upload posts from one site to Tumblr. You may fall under this rule..

What I can assume is that Tumblr system for keeping spam like post out of search + the URL ban + being able to search posts by terms / any tags has hit a great number of posts made by users..

If that is the case, you have to re-upload the post to see in search or find it by terms.

I will talk about this later..

And there is a 5th option which I can’t prove to be true or false.. I have heard the porn bots that like or retweet your posts is another reason to why your posts may not show up in search / tags but can not prove this but something to keep in mind..

If you have a secondary blog account on your main that posts or reblogs adult things, be careful, I can’t say how much this may or may not affect you since there no way to test this but keep that in mind

I don’t know if adult blogs that like / reblog your posts will affect you or not.

There is one last option.. And this is a very extreme case.. but..

If your posts aren't appearing on Tumblr-wide tag pages, it might be because your blog is pretty new and we need to make sure you’re not a robot or a spammer.

Make sure you’ve verified your account via the email we sent when you joined Tumblr. Once you’ve used your account for a while (and done normal, human things with it like follow other blogs and like or reblog posts), your posts will start appearing on tag pages.

If you are a robot or a spammer, you should visit our article about account deletion.

On the help center page for Troubleshooting tags. The post I quoted worries me. There could be a chance your account is marked as a robot or a spammer. If, at that point happens.

You have 2 options. 1. Contact Tumblr support and tell them your problems and pray to god that they do something to help out, and hope they don’t send a automatic response which can amount to “we will try to do something but won’t“

2. Backup your blog, make a new account and re-post everything there by hand, and let your followers know of the new account. Your current account may be marked as a spammer account or a robot.

So… How do you get your post to show back up on Tumblr Dashboard search with the power to search for terms and any tag on your post, and tags that are after the 5th tag on posts?

ANSWER: Re-upload the post or posts that is not showing up in tags or is no longer searchable on Tumblr Dashboard. It’s the only current fix to the problem for why posts are no longer showing up in tags / searched by terms

This does work but if the post didn’t have a banned link. This is worth a shot but be warned that your post may fall under the 5 tag or less rule.

For users who only reblog or like, this will not affect you. But those who don’t reblog and make posts, this affects us greatly. When our posts can’t be seen by other users besides followers.. I don’t man, not feeling it since most followers may / are no longer active.

Since the dashboard search engine is awful and tumblr @staff don’t seem to want to fix this issue or know how to fix the issue. This is the only way from what I tested.

If you have this issue but don’t want to re-upload posts to fix it. You have to go by the 5 tags can be searched, and you can’t term and your posts may or may not show up in tags. I could be wrong but I know there are people who don’t want to use a wrong around for this bug if you got more then 50 posts.

You can test to see if your posts are searchable by making an empty tag that has never been used, ever. Then go to mass post editor and add the empty tag as the 6th tag to 30 or 20 posts at a time and search the said tag. If your posts that you tagged with the empty tag show up in that tag under the “most recent” search and not tagged.

A empty tag (Your username) seems to be able to hold 40 or 20 of your posts at a time. That’s why it is best to do 20 or 10 to test them. You may need to wait a bit as there is delay for posts to show up. Or you can add the empty tag to 3 of your post as the 6th tag or anything after the 5th tag works.

However, if the tag being used is brand new or barely used it can affect some post from what I tested.

Brand new tags (Never used aka no posts in the tag) Can hold 40 of your posts.. Sometimes it can hold more?

non-empty tags (Tags that get used once in a while) Can hold 3 posts and there is a post delay

Very active tags can hold 3 post but if you post a lot, your older posts in a tag will be hidden after a fourth post is made but will show back up after a week or so. Sometimes Tumblr may break and the post might not show back up if hidden and you probably have to reupload it or re-tag?

If you see the post in most recent or popular search, your posts can be found by terms / any tag but this is me just observing and testing about 20 posts

Now should say this. New tags that never been used can hold 40 of your posts sometimes more? But this is if you are trying to search by term and not tags

This means users can search for your posts by tags and tags after the 5th tag as well or terms in your posts on tumblr dashboard. (That is good, very good)

Because I tried to bring my posts from WordPress to Tumblr via a defunct import tool named wp2tumblr and as a result of my post falling under these rules of spam here what I took note of.

Posts that don't show up or can not be seen working well in tags or at all and not coming up in the search terms. Out of 147 posts. only 113* of my posts do not show up right in tags or search nor can they be searched by terms or tags (Some tags do not show these post after 2 weeks. You have to wait a week to see them but nothing happens..)

So only 34+ posts can be searched by tag / terms / seen in tags or searched by terms

113 posts have bugged / shadow flagged for spam / search from the effects of using wp2tumblr to import my wordpress posts to tumblr..

Only way to fix this is by re-uploading the post to allow it to be found in tumblr tags and search terms.

Again, if you don’t see your post show up in search or tags, you will need to re-upload the posts in question.

And for me, I hate having to re-upload posts to have them be seen again but I will have to do it if I want my posts to be seen. Even if that means re-uploading my rants, vents, talking about users, and other things. So you will be seeing me upload some posts that may be 2017 or 2018 related.

Your followers may or may not be annoyed with you as a heads up if you re-upload posts to fix this issue.

And even if you do this, there is no 100 % plan yet or there is a chance someone may see you re-upload a post as spam.. Or the post may not show up later

But I thought I share what I have been observing how things been working on tumblr. If anyone has a better way of dealing with this, let me know.

Because when you make a new post, it is seen in tags / search. And it is searchable be terms or tags after the 5th tag

Again, if your post is not showing up in tags, re-upload the post in question and it will be back in search to be seen by everyone

However, another issue came to me. If you reupload the post it can be found in search and by terms.. now however If you edit/delete the tags when having more then 5 tags on the post and go down to 5 or less.

Your post may fall under the 5 tags or less rule and may also lose the right to search for that post by terms but something to look out for.

Update: It seems some of my new posts are not searchable by terms anymore.

I contacted Tumblr Support but got a fast reply but it was a copy and paste. I don’t know what Tumblr Staff is doing but it’s anything but helpful.

Here a list of my posts that got hit or don’t show up.. I added clear to the post name meaning it works / shows up. I need to look at all of them. I have since deleted some old posts so this list is outdated and this is not all of the posts yet..

Some post below don’t have the right name but keep that in mind

Welcome to my brand new sapphic positivity blog!

Behind the Blog:

If you're at all familiar with the way that this hellsite treats lesbians, then you are most likely familiar with the things that we have to deal with. Such as being compared to TERFs, being equated to TERFs, being put down for our attraction to women, being called transphobic for not being attracted to penis, and just being shamed for our attraction in general.

This horrid treatment of lesbians is what lead me to look through the lesbian positivity tag, in the hopes that doing so would make me feel better. Unfortunately, it did not, as most of the posts in the tag are about touching and/or being touched by girls. While I am not shaming the lesbians that enjoy touching and being touched, as that is a completely normal and valid part of their attraction, I am uncomfortable with the thought of being touched by anyone, regardless of gender. My sensitivity to touch and want to not be touched led me to believe that I was a bad lesbian, which is another thing I have struggled with.

This user has spent over 7 years shit posting hate directly into the reylo fandom's tag instead of doing literally anything else to make their own fandom more enjoyable for themselves.

What has been hellish is being in this fandom for over 9 years and dealing with the amount of uncalled for vitriol at this very fucking plain flavor baby's first enemies-to-lovers ship.

It's not even been a full 2 years and I'm nearing 1000.

Aaannddd I’m back!

I decided to participate in the #TumblrLogOff and let me tell you, trying to stay away from this hellsite for a solid 24hrs was ROUGH. Never realized how disgustingly dependent I am on this thing before. I’m glad I did it, though. I don’t know if this protest will lead to any real change but I figured why the hell not? It couldn’t hurt to try. Besides, I think a break every now and again is healthy anyways.

I wanted to be a part of this, though, because I don’t completely agree with the way Tumblr has handled this. Yes, I think child porn should 110% be eradicated from this website. Child porn should not exist in general. It’s disgusting, immoral, and illegal. I feel the same about exposing minors to porn, as well. I don’t think anyone under the age of 18 should have to be exposed to that shit. This is especially true in terms of pornbots, which I’m pretty sure I remember seeing somewhere that they did not discriminate against minors but seeing as I was already of legal age when they began their uprising, I can’t truly vouch for the accuracy of that statement.

The pornbots have been a big problem for a really long time. I know us users have begged for staff to do something about it for ages and they didn’t do shit. I find it funny the way they actually never did a damn thing until their ad revenue was at risk because of Apple removing them from the app store. Which means clearly the staff and the CEO only care about the money-- which is expected. They’re a company, after all. That’s how companies run. However, I don’t think they should’ve waited until their finances were at stake to do something about this. That just proves that they don’t give a fuck about their consumers-- not really. They say they do, they say they love the community we’ve built within this site and that they will always be a safe space for marginalized groups and shit but let’s face it, it’s all a front. They don’t really give a flying fuck unless it involves their money.

Secondly, not only do I think they should’ve waited as long as they did, I also don’t think they handled this correctly at all. Removing child and unnecessary porn is absolutely essential but that doesn’t mean all porn is unnecessary. I am personally pretty indifferent toward porn but I know there are so many artists on here who have finally found a niche online to garner an audience for art that would otherwise be turned away for being too racy and I think that’s great. They’re out here using Tumblr as a means to make a living when they would otherwise be struggling. Not that they’re super rich because of Tumblr, but it makes things easier. Or at least it did. And users who have posted NSFW content, artistic or otherwise, have always been courteous of others and tagged that content so that those who were uncomfortable could blacklist. Unlike the porn bots who are unsolicited and shoving that shit in your face. The porn dilemma is not predominantly a user problem, it’s a virus problem. The porn bot epidemic is a virus and should’ve been handled accordingly. I was even talking about this with my boyfriend and he was criticizing the staff saying that if PornHub can flawlessly filter out shit like child porn then Tumblr should be able to, as well. I don’t have an extensive amount of knowledge about coding but I know if someone else can manage it, then there shouldn’t be any excuse.

The filtration system is fucked up. Tumblr promised to discern what was appropriate and what was not in terms of content and they failed. Porn bots are still slipping through but posts about puppies, food, and statues are getting incorrectly flagged. It’s also flushing out fandom content, something that this site has prided itself on being a prime vessel for over the years. Their own post exemplifying what was allowed even got flagged which really says something. Meanwhile I updated a chapter of my fanfic two nights ago and yesterday morning I checked my blog activity to find it was reblogged by a porn bot who erased all the content and replaced it with a link to a porn site. What the fuck.

The fact that Tumblr’s new policy is actively pitting against the LGBT+ community, as well, irks me. I am not a member of the community but I know how pivotal this site has been in giving a voice to oppressed sexualities and gender identities, provided a sense of community, and given them a safe space to communicate with one another and rally for their rights. Tumblr has given that community so much and now it’s as if they’re pulling the rug right out from under them which is not okay. Staff says they still want to facilitate that dialogue and shit but how can that be when members of the community are getting flagged left and right for the most innocent bullshit? It’s bothersome.

It was tough staying away from this site for a full twenty four hours (and being actively aware of it) but I’m glad I did because it gave me a lot of time to think about what Tumblr will become if this ban proceeds forward (and our attempts failed) and what’s made Tumblr great all these years. I don’t know what I’m going to do moving forward. I want to stay, but it depends if things get too bad. If the filtration system continues to be royally fucked up and everything goes to shit, then obviously I’ll leave. I’ll make myself at home elsewhere-- even though there really is no place like Tumblr. I guess we’ll just see what happens but I felt like I wanted to make a post about this in general once I logged back on because I feel like it’s an important topic to address and I wanted to talk about why I decided to join the fight. So there’s that.

Lets start with tumblrs classically fucking broken tagging system which you don’t seem to fucking understand. I’ll give you the rundown:

First off, the tagging system is pretty fucking broken. Anyone who has spent time on this hellsite knows this. You can make a post and post it with all the tagged properly put in and that shit still wont show up if you search the tag using the tagging system. Happens to me constantly. Paradoxically, using the tagging system to look for things you’re interested in will cause you to not see half the shit posted in that tag. They’ve done a little work to fix this but a day late and a dollar short, it’s harbored such ill will that I’ve not seem many people use the system that way.

I use it the search bar way. In which I do something as fucking unheard of as just putting the word ‘reylo’ into the search bar and searching for it.

Which, allow me to show you something:

What’s that fucking look like to you?

Could it possibly be? Did I simply type the word ‘reylo’ into the fucking search and find your poorly tagged post @somethingscarlet13?

Now this may come as a shocker to you too but the tag ‘Anti SPACE reylo’ is actually the wrong tag. The tag you’re looking for to insure festering cunts like me don’t come around is ‘anti-reylo’ OR ‘anti_reylo’ since just simply posting the words ‘anti SPACE reylo’ will make it show up in a search.

Why is it this way? I don’t fucking know, ask tumblr. Probably the same reason I can’t look up ‘erotic’ anymore because that’s what happens when they ban half their fucking platform.

OR, you can alter the word Reylo. You seemed to understand this in the body of your post because you were censoring the word but then for whatever the fuck reason you failed to do the same in your tags, which made it fucking show up anyways. And here I fucking am, proof you didn’t fucking think that one through.

Secondly, I don’t fucking know how you do callout posts if you don’t tag the person you’re calling out. What the fuck do you think ‘Callout’ means? How unfuckingefficient that must be to argue with a moron like you who says whole words and doesn't seem to understand what they fucking mean. How the fuck are you going to start a fight in a tag then turn off notification because you didn’t realize that calling someone out means yelling their fucking name across the room and throwing hands?

And might I say lastly, I’ve been through your posts and Jesus Fuck man it’s ironic you keep telling me to go the fuck outside when I don’t think you’ve seen sunshine in 3 fucking years. I was trying to find the original post you made that kicked all this shit off and I was over 20 fucking pages in before I could find it and that was only a day ago.

I’ve not seen such a negative dashboard in so fucking long I thought I stumbled onto a fucking secret nazi account, not that you need to hide that on this platform.

I will be the first to admit I have a bad temper and like to fucking shout about shit online but my dashboard is mostly filled with political things of importance, cute animals, and reylo, I don’t generally post angry cruelhearted things like wishing death upon people in fandom. I don’t think I have a single fucking anti post besides the ones were I’m replying to an anti. I don’t even wish death on antis I just want them to all fuck off. I may hate you and if I heard about your death tomorrow my response would be ‘Ach, couldn’t of happened to a better guy /s’ but I don’t wish fucking death on you actively.

You have posts where you’re telling people who are in fandom straight up to fucking die and telling others to attack them.

You have posts that attack your own sister, saying absolutely wild shit such as ‘I can’t wait until you(the sister) dies’.

Bitch, you don’t need to just go outside, you need to fucking talk to someone.

Getting mad and shouting because assholes are in your tag is one fucking thing but telling people they need to fucking die because they enjoy things you don’t like is a whole new fucking level of fucked up.

You need to take a break from tumblr and go talk to a fucking therapist.
