One day I'll watch Arcane and not analyze every scene and find stuff I didn't notice before but today is not that day.

So there's a scene in s1e4 when Jayce and Viktor are meeting with the councilors after the break in and explosion at their lab that has always bothered me.

Around the 31:11ish minute mark, while Mel is talking about making Jayce a councilor, Viktor is shown for basically 3 seconds from behind as the camera pans. This shot has bothered me since December when I first watched the show. I never got why it was shown at that particular moment and from that angle and it bugged me even more after we found out everything in the animation is meant.

I finally figured out why.... Viktor is probably either about to or was actually having a panic attack

It is really hard to see since the scene itself is barely 3 seconds long but look at his shoulders heave. He is breathing really heavily, you can actually hear him exhale if you listen even with Mel speaking. Look at his hands clutch the crutch again like it did when he was nervous about Jayce not showing to give the speech and him being asked. Same position.

Viktor is basically ignored in this meeting, something which he probably wasn't shocked with. When he does go to speak, Jayce protects him, taking all the blame on himself. The only other time Viktor is shown from the front is when Jayce talks about closing the hexgates, his look is surprise. (also note his hand position as compared to the video above, it's much looser, higher on the crutch and this was 1 minute before Mel's proposal.)

This though...

That little sequence is the only time he's shown after Jayce mentioning the gates and it's his reaction to Mel's proposal of making Jayce a councilor.

This in my head is the moment. Viktor at this point knows it will never be the same. I'm not saying this is where their paths diverged but starts the falling dominoes.

Also as I was writing this, I'd already put my thoughts on discord and it was pointed out, Jayce is in the light while Viktor is in the shadow.
