Very excited and pleased to report that I have purchased a ticket to see Macbeth in October!!
Logistics will take a bit more time to iron out, but I pushed past my anxiety and decided to get the ticket because I didn't want to miss out again. I'm also interested to see how this production compares with the one I saw Alan Cumming in years ago, but I know this will be a singular experience with David in the lead role.
I hope everyone who wanted a ticket was able to get one! ❤️

#for the record i will never believe in the macbeth superstition#as someone who has worked in theater both onstage and backstage#things will go wrong no matter what. there are just so many people and moving parts that you cant avoid something going disastrously wrong#but it feels nice to have something you can tangibly blame when youre faced with a situation where nobody is at fault#so people decided that a culturally significant tragedy that gets talked about a lot by thespians is somehow the culprit#and the play itself is haunted oooooo#but. no. no matter how diligent everyone is about avoiding talking about macbeth someone is still gonna almost get a concussion mid act#props are still gonna go missing. set pieces are still gonna fall over. someones still gonna fall down the stairs (me lol).#allow yourself the freedom

We’ve all seen minimalist Macbeth sets. Now get ready for… maximalist Macbeth!
Duncan’s bedroom and Macbeth’s banquet hall are fully furnished with beautiful furniture and tapestries, and all the workings of a gorgeous 11th century living space. When Duncan is murdered, the blood stains his beautiful bedsheets and pristine hardwood floors. Banquo’s ghost drips blood across Macbeth’s beautiful mahogany table and hand-carved chairs.
There are hundreds of trees on stage for act 5. The actors are constantly weaving desperately between them to catch a glimpse of the audience. Birnam Wood has engulfed the stage.
There is a whole team of techies mopping up the blood off the gorgeous set pieces after each showing.

when you realise that both odysseus and medea are manipulating, deceiving characters who are way too smart for their own good but are overcome by anger, pride and jealousy which leads them to commit horrendous acts of violence. and then odysseus is the hero and medea is the bitch
#ok there IS a difference#there are multiple differences#medea is expected to tolerate jasons cheating. she doesnt and therefore challenges expectations set on women#odysseus goes on a wild killing rampage murdering and executing all the suitors and penelopes maids#medea kills her own children which i will say is on another level#but they both commit multiple murders#odysseus is a hero. he fought at troy (where he slaughtered ppl in a temple. yay) and hes a greek king#medea is a priestess of hecate and from kolchis so basically from the other end of the world (to the greeks)#so shes not only a weird woman shes also not entirely human aand “barbaric“#but i would argue that both commit revenge out of anger pride and jealousy#only that defines the image we have of medea (ignoring how she helped jason on multiple adventures) as a jealous murderous witch#but it doesnt impact the image we have of odysseus as a wily hero#yeah welcome to my 5. pk#5. pk#and dont even get me STARTED on lady macbeth#in the wise words of gerard way “and so he gets to die a saint but she will always be the whore“#greek mythology#medea#odysseus
