Whenever I see someone who is not Brazilian using this gif I wonder if they know that it is from a Brazilian soapopera from the 2000s called senhora do destino (mistress of destiny) that has a chokehold on pop culture to this day

This character is the villain of the story, who steals a baby from another woman and raises the kid as her own. She kills a bunch of people usually by pushing them down the stairs or with scissors and this scene from the meme is her slowly going mad when she realizes she’s getting her comeuppance and going to prison. It is a tragic story but she is a meme because she is stereotypically evil and has lines that are comical and are memes 20 years later such as seeing a gay couple and going “dykes… I can smell the leather from afar”

This one is just “first you get born again then you brush your teeth, do some gurgling and then you get a grip on yourself”

Watching Telenovelas (soapoperas) after so many years is like:

It has been years since I watched a soap opera, it was like a tradition I had with my dad, my grandma and some other family members. The soap operas from Brazil are the freaking best! Of course they dub them to latin spanish for us fortunately ‘cause I don’t know squat of brazilian portuguese.

I’m re-watching some of this soaps and it just cracks me up on how cheesy these shows were: the over the top situations, the stupid looks on the characters faces, the obvious reveals, etc.

But sometimes there’s good subplots here and there, in fact, a secondary couple’s love story from a brazilian telenovela looks and acts just like the Colt ship, so it helps me for a little inspiration ;)

It had been too lon since I had watched a #telenovela and in spite of being a #happilyrecoveredcatholic I was drawn to a Bible-based telenovela entitled #elricoylazaro or, in English, "Lazarus and the RichMan.".
