Mass Effect Lore: Common technologies in the 2180's (Part 1: Omnitool)
This post is both a collection of canon technologies in the Mass Effect universe, and personal headcanon which may be borrowing common concepts from sci fi.
Part 1 will be dedicated to solely the omnitool, because omnitools provide the user with such a huge amount of features that they deserve their own post.
What is an omnitool?
The omnitool is a microchip implanted underneath the skin which upon activation, can project a holographic screen as well as a holographic keyboard to navigate said screen. However, omnitools can also be navigated via voice demands. Omnitools provide a variety of functions and can do pretty much anything that a computer, smart watch, phone, calculator or tablet could do.
Omnitool activation could be done vocally via a spoken password or in a tactile manner such as touching one‘s forearm in a certain rhythm and pattern.
Microfabricators can generate objects out of microplastic particles, but it isn‘t possible for an object to generate if the omnitool consists merely an implant under the skin. (I don‘t see how that‘s possible without space magic..)
Therefore an additional bracelet has to be worn, which contains the microparticles out of which an object can be forged.
The omnitool can be synced with the translator implant, updating the translator with new translation software.
What can the omnitool do?
Canon:
Allows communication via voice calls, video calls, voice messages and text messages
Provides intranet, internet and extranet access
Allows upload and download of data
Can be used for videography and photography
Can be used to play music
Can provide a flashlight
Provides a wide array of general programs, calendars, navigation programs and maps, note apps, alarms, games and more
Can be used for hacking, coding and decryption
Special programs can be used to utilize the microfabricator to form objects; if the bracelet is charged with certain particles it can also be used to fire particles which are commonly used for combat (incinerate or cryo blast function, for instance)
But that‘s the boring shit. That‘s what phones, tablets and computers can do nowadays, and the combat stuff is covered in the game.
Here‘s my headcanons added to it.
What special functions can an omnitool have?
It can fire fire extinguishing particles. (No pun intended) Meaning that little bracelet actually could serve as a fire extinguisher, using microparticles to extinguish fire.
The microfabricator should be able to forge any tool, such as a screwdiver out of microplastic. That explains why quarians seem to be able to fix things with just their omnitool. No need to take a toolbox with you when you‘ve got your omnitool.
Omnitools should be able to do anything that an advanced calculator can, meaning omnitool calculators provide more functions than a regular phone or tablet calculator. Basically that chip has a build in college level calculator.
Communication aid programs coupled with visors or smart lenses can scan and analyze the body language and facial expressions of conversation partners, listing likely interpretations for those who struggle to read other species.
More advanced omnitool models should be able to aid you with repairs, as well. Take a scan of a broken piece of tech and the omnitool might come up with a diagnostic of it and giving suggestions how to fix it. That would explain why everyone in ME seems so tech savvy - actually the omnitool just provides a ton of help.
Omnitools are capable of measuring pulse, heart rate, blood oxygen, blood sugar levels and blood pressure. They also can monitor sleep quality and duration. Steps taken during the day and stability of walking. Basically they have all the functions of a smart watch.
Just like you can fire a neural shock to disable someone, you can fire a targeted shock in form of a heart defibrillator to revive someone.
Other medical programs provide build in fever thermometer scanners.
Omnitool scans using medical scanners can also provide diagnostic aid, scanning for abnormalities and injuries. The most advanced models are capable of scanning broken bones, essentially having the function of x ray scans.
Certain programs give the user the ability to stimulate the vagus nerve to aid against stress or depression. If nerve stim programs for sexual stimulation are a thing, then this should be within the realms of possibility too. It is possible that this might require a piece of hardware to be synced to, however.
Omnitools also make great morning alarm clocks, being capable of emitting light that emulates a sunrise filling the entire room to wake up a person. The vital scanner takes note of your awakening, which causes the alarm to slowly stop, dimming the lightning and turning down the music volume (if you’ve set a music alarm) slowly.
Some people also like receiving comfortable vibrations through their body through their omnitool to wake up from their sleep.
Other handy stuff that you could fabricate using the microplastic fabricator (aside from blades and tools): cutlery, bowls and cups, razor blades, hair brushes and combs, scissors. Yeah, you‘re gonna have kids in class who forgot to bring their scissors and cut out stuff with omnitool fabricated scissors.

Omnitools?
Quick question, Mass Effect folks! I could google it but that would lead down the 20+ tabs open scenario and I'd much rather write.
Do we have a generally accepted headcanon about how omnitools actually work? Bracelet? Implant? Something?
I'm tending to implant rn, but I wanted to know real quick if there is some canon or broadly agreed fanon about it.

character headcanon: your choice! ash or kaidan
Miss Williams it is an honour …
Sexuality Headcanon: She’ s bi , no argument there , but her being demiaro is special to me .. idk something about a younger Ash reading love poems and not being able to picture herself in them only to return to them years later and have that moment of realization and understanding .. yeah
Gender Headcanon: Save me intersex trans woman of colour that uses she / him … save me
A ship I have with said character: Her and Miranda no one touch me rn . They should have been able to interact with each other like one on one in the base games pleqse PLEASE . I feel like they would understand each other but try to play it off for a while in their own ways … like . They both have a lot to prove to themselves and I think they would have to take some time to accept seeing each other in their actions and such and . Idk . In my mind it is all I want
A BROTP I have with said character: Her and Kaidan like ALL the way . I think they are good Friends who shoot the shit with each other to keep each other like . Level headed and ready for the next day . She deserves an adoptive younger brother to bother and send silly things to on the omnitool . I think they prank each other by putting things like rubber spiders and the such in their lockers
A NOTP I have with said character: Her and James . Just doesn’ t work for me sorry Citadel dlc fandom
A random headcanon: She tried to learn flower language when she was young . It kinda worked . She remembered a few things but now she ends up confusing meanings semi often . She still thinks it’ s cool
General Opinion over said character: If Ash was the protagonist the story would have been over in 2 hours tops < 3 Pookie

If ME4 makes the destroy ending the canon one and revives Shepard somehow - what do you think about Kaidans perspective in that case?
I'm talking about the whole "we're very good friends" to "oh no he died" to "he's back but working for the evil guys" to "we're finally dating" to "oh no he's dead again" and then.... Shepard just turning up again? I imagine it must be taking quite a toll on Kaidan, maybe depending on the timespan between Shepard demise and revival. But I'm curious about your thoughts since I love everything about your Mshenko.
ooooh this is a good one! i’m actually in the early stages of working on a fic that covers this exact topic!
so, firstly, im assuming you mean the version of the destroy ending where you have enough military strength to get that small bonus scene at the end of the epilogue that shows shepard gasping awake in the middle of a pile of rubble.
in that case, i feel that that would occur relatively soon after the release of energy by the crucible. with the extent of injuries sustained it wouldn’t be feasible to assume there was a large time gap because he would’ve died without immediate medical care (at least in my opinion). he would either a) be discovered by search and rescue teams, or b) manage to get a stable comms link with his omnitool and let someone know where he is.
i tend to agree with a the large majority of fandom in that it would take a considerable amount of time for shepard to fully recover from his injuries. the main point of division i see is how the crucible affects shepard’s implants from the lazarus project.
now, my main issue with the assumption that the crucible would annihilate shepard’s implants is that it wouldn’t make sense on a larger scale. i’m certain that there’s a number of civilians with cybernetic implants or prosthetics. even today we have things like pacemakers, and to assume that the crucible would obliterate shepard based on the fact that it kills all synthetic life is rather unfair to me. of course, i don’t mind if people have that headcanon, but for me, i see it this way:
shepard is not synthetic life. he was revived, sure, but he’s an organic lifeform. he always has been. it’s still his body keeping him alive, it just has help from implants. if he were to be killed by the crucible on account of having cybernetics then that would also mean a lot of regular people with implants/prosthetics would die solely because they have cybernetics in their body.
this is largely influenced by the fact that i think the crucible is fucking strange and poorly explained space magic. but it’s my personal opinion.
so assuming he is recovered quickly, i don’t think there’d be too much tension between mshenko because there wouldn’t be that extensive period of mourning afterwards. i think it’d take a while for both of them to process everything that’s happened, but nearly losing each other so many times has made one thing perfectly clear: they love each other, and are indescribably grateful for every minute they have. because technically, shepard has been living on borrowed time ever since he was revived.
there would definitely be baggage to work through. on both sides. but they’ve known each other for so long, been through so much, that i think there wouldn’t be much to talk about. shepard has always had self-sacrificial tendencies in the face of the reapers and it isn’t a secret. so i think a lot of it would just be joy for the fact of being alive.
this is… a little off topic from the question you asked but i just have a Lot of thoughts about post-me3. so sorry for the essay LMFAO

For the "send me a character," Tali'Zorah from Mass Effect!
Yeeeee my best tech nerd friend <3
My favorite line ”When do we get to stop reacting to our parents and start living for ourselves?” or [Shep: It’s not worth getting angry about.] “My brain agrees with you. My gut says i should jack his suit’s olfactory filters so that everything smells like refuse.” My favorite moment Making ship noises during the Citadel party, hands down My favorite strength Her adaptability. Or her tech nerdery. Or her playfulness. All are great. My favorite weakness That she's unsure sometimes. She has doubts, she wavers, she's not unflappable. My favorite personal headcanon Whether romanced or friend, she does some special tweaks to trick out Shepard's omnitool, more so for a tech-inclined Shep, since you'll rely on it more. (I'm also quite fond of the one Jade put in my Holiday Harbinger present, that she'll act more drunk than she is to get people to open up/let their guard down. :3)

Jack's hypervigilance [A headcanon]
As a result of her horrifying upbringing, Jack suffers a tremendous amount of trauma. She is extremely hypervigilant. Jack lives in a constant state of being wary and on edge as if expecting a threat at any moment. She is alerted by even the tiniest of noises, which is why she resides in the depths of Engineering rather than anywhere else. She wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise. She's scared when she hears footsteps of someone coming down to her quarters, and her rough upbringing has tuned her hearing so finely she'll hear even the faintest footsteps. If you want to do Jack a favor, send her an omnitool message first if you can come over.

Worldbuilding in SWTOR:  Inventions and Innovations
Here’s a world-building post that I’ve had kicking around for awhile.  Within my series, I think seriously about the physical effects, long and short term, of any injuries I inflict upon my characters. I also think about what gadgets they have and how they use them.  Also, what makes my story easier to tell?  (That’s an honest and completely reasonable question for a fic writer.)  What does the SWTOR universe have that we don’t (yet)?
~~
Feel free to reblog with your own inventions in the SWTOR universe, if you have any.
~~
Dermaplast -- one of my first creations (and thus most developed), Dermaplast is a combination scar treatment and make-up cover.  I initially conceived it as super effective Dermablend foundation. Dermablend is a real brand.  It’s marketed toward people who are seeking to cover-up their skin, full cover.  This goes beyond Estée Lauder DoubleWear, which is serious business full-coverage foundation from the mall make-up counter  Dermablend’s clientele include people with scarring due to burns, self harm, and surgery, as well as those who need to cover-up their tattoos for a brief period.
Going a step beyond Dermablend, Dermaplast has a silicone scar treatment integrated into the cover up formula, so not only does it conceal the color of the scar, but it also fills in the scar itself to the point where, in any light, the scar is undetectable.  Eva Corolastor, my main oc, has a gnarly scar over her right eye, from just under her eyebrow to the top of her cheek.  It’s only visible during The Grand Reveal, when she is disguised as a pirate.  In her mind, Eva believes that ‘the woman with a scar over her eye’ is more noticeable and identifiable than ‘yet another chick in Star Wars with brown hair;’ the latter is better for her line of business.  Smugglers need to run under the radar, both in space and on the ground.  So Eva covers up that scar so she can’t be identified as easily.  It was also pretty gruesome when it happened, so she does this for the comfort of others; Eva will always wear the Dermaplast unless she’s using the scar as a disguise or if she can’t access it (i.e., the period post carbonite when she is parted from her ship, Virtue’s Thief).
Omnitool -- I named this item this before I was aware of the item from Mass Effect, so whoops on my part.  In my SWTOR universe, the omnitool is essentially a space-age Swiss Army knife.  Unlike the Mass Effect version, this doesn’t have cell phone or communications abilities. It slices both vegetables and computers.  Eva’s omnitool is particularly old -- 50+ years.  Omnitools and slicing kits ‘today’ post Treaty of Coruscant are faster than the older models, but if you’re using them for illicit purposes, they have a habit of tripping security systems.  They try to ‘unlock’ blocks of code in large chunks.  This is fine when you already know the system and you’re working with familiar machinery; they’re fast but sloppy.  If you’re trying to get in somewhere you should not, then it’s a problem.  Older omnitools, like Eva’s and Jakarro’s, try to slice into devices by boiling the code down to simple binary.  Does that mean it takes forever for it to slice something?  Yes, but it doesn’t trip security.  Also, post-carbonite, Eva’s old omnitool can slice into Zakuulan tech because it runs on the most basic elements of computers -- binary code.  All those 1s and 0s, regardless of how different Zakuulan programming is, still make ‘sense’ to the old omnitools.  Modern omnitools try to see the bigger project for what it is and thus can get their users into trouble by rushing things and tripping security.  The old omnitools just plod along, one 1 and one 0 at a time -- and get the job done.
Birth Control -- Just like our universe, I headcanon that birth control and abortion do exist in the SWTOR universe.  The galaxy is pretty vast, so there are varying social and cultural differences about what is openly spoken about and what is not.  Places like Nar Shaddaa, Coruscant, and Dromund Kaas are more open with fewer obstacles to access than others.   Condoms exist.  The pill, the ring, the patch, hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs-- they all exist.   Birth control implants also exist for women, and they can last up to 10 years.  Within the last 20 years or so, the male birth control implant has appeared on the market as well.  The male birth control implant works through a combination of hormones and micro-heating technology to drop sperm count but to not inhibit sexual function or drive (unless it’s deliberately overtuned by the user).   I headcanon that the male birth control implant came into being around 3650 BBY. By the time our characters are running around in 3643 BBY, the male birth control implant is available and known to the galaxy, but it’s not extensively used; there are some people (like Theron Shan in my headcanon) that are first in line to get it, but there are still some in the galaxy that think birth control is a woman’s problem -- they’ll bring the condoms, but getting an implant?  Naaaaah.  The male birth control implant, like the female version, lasts for 10 years.  The female birth control implant has an effectiveness of 99.9%, while the male version is 99.7% effective.
Czerka Theftmax 3200  -- a niche merchant/smuggler toy.  I introduced this to get Eva through the Port Authority on Katalla.  To quote, “ Czerka Theftmax 3200 – gives up half the goods in exchange for a nasty shock.”  In short, legitimate merchants would put this on their crates to ensure that, if their ship was boarded or their goods stolen, the thief would only get away with up to half of the goods -- if they remove too much weight from the crate, then an electrical charge is generated by the security system as a punishment.  It’s significant enough to throw a person back three or four feet.  In terms of how Eva uses it, she puts her valuable illicit goods at the bottom of the crate, then fills up the rest of the box with other moderately valued goods.  Port Authority searches it, and either the officer on duty stops at the 50% mark or gets a lesson in being overly fastidious.  This works for Eva, because Port Authority guys never do the training they’re mandated to do.  As a result, getting shocked is a proof of  “you didn’t read the manual;”  the big boss just waves Eva through when that happens.
@swtorpadawan, @starknstarwars - possibly interesting stuff :D

Thanks for asking :)
My answers under the cut. Tagging @meganmoonlight cause you asked about Steve too :)
.
Character Ask
Steve Cortez
favorite thing about them: Everything. He's just amazing. But to pick one thing. His kindness ans cheerfulness.
least favorite thing about them: Cant think of anything.
favorite line: "Let that be a lesson. You sneak to a dinner date with another man, you get shot at"
brOTP: Him and Shepard, him and James. He and Samantha are also besties.
OTP: While I love him with Maleshep, I also ship him with Kaidan a lot.
nOTP: Him and any woman.
random headcanon: He is a huge nerd about mechanical things, and gets into debates about things as omnitools and vehicles with Tali and Kaidan.
unpopular opinion: Ik why some people may find his romance rushed, but honestly his relationship with Shep is really good, and I wish the Kaidan romance didn't overshadow Steve's so much.
song i associate with them: Into the Fire - Thirteen Senses
favorite picture of them:
Tumblr media
Celene Valmont
favorite thing about them: Her skills and the game and how she's slowly reforming Orlais
least favorite thing about them: She did some murders and a genocide. But thats nothing new to politicians in Thedas
favorite line: "Sitting on my throne, I see every city in the empire. If I must burn one to save the rest, I will weep, but I will light the torch!"
brOTP: Her and Michel de Chevin.
OTP: Her and Briala. Is it an unhealthy and toxic relationship ? Yes. Do I care ? No. I also ship her with Morrigan.
nOTP: Her and Gaspard
random headcanon: She and Anora eventually develop a frenemies relationship out of the mutual respect they have for each other, specially after Anora becomes sole queen of Ferelden
unpopular opinion: While I don't endorse her actions and acknowledge how terrible they were, I think she did what she had to to remain in power, and it was for the best. Otherwise, Gaspard would be in charge, and things would have been much, much worse. To quote the movie Fury: "Ideals are peaceful. History is violent"
song i associate with them: Masquerade - Phantom of the Opera
favorite picture of them:
Tumblr media
Velanna
favorite thing about them: Her determination. She has the goal of finding her sister and won't let anyone stand in her way
least favorite thing about them: Her anger (which is justified) can cloud her judgement a lot of times
favorite line: "Stories are what holds a people together"
brOTP: Her and the warden, Nathaniel and Sigrun.
OTP: I ship her with Sigrun so much
nOTP: Her and Anders
random headcanon: She left with the Warden, Sigrun and Nathaniel to find a cure for the Calling

Various Holly Headcanons
I’m doing a list of hcs for a few characters today, this is Holly’s.  I did Artemis, Juliet, Butler, Foaly, and Minerva earlier, so check those out if you haven’t! Okay, here goes:
Holly gets her hair gel from Myles now (she discovered his method of making it with seaweed and it doesn’t make her scalp itch as much as the LEP issue hair gel.) Lazuli delivers it when she can’t make it to the surface.
The first time Artemis gives her a cup of coffee she’s up shaking for two days. It’s much more potent than sim-caf and SO MUCH better tasting. Holly can never go back to that muck now.
Holly makes extra excuses to come up to the surface just for the phenomenal coffee Butler brews (she likes it black with cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom)
Holly loves video games! She and Juliet bond over the WWE games. However, she prefers solo games like Witcher 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
She has little rituals that she performs on the anniversary of her mom’s death, as a way of remembering and connecting with her. These are things like cooking a certain dish, reading the story her mother used to read her every night until she was twenty, doing yoga, etc.
She misses her mom a lot. Like, a LOT, a lot. She thinks about her almost every day. When she lost the omnitool her mom gave her as a graduation present, she was inconsolable (luckily Mulch returned it once he realized how much it meant to her.)
She kind of... Adopts Lazuli? Their relationship is canon to some extent, but let me just say that Lazuli has a drawer at Holly’s place and she’s right next to Holly and Trouble at every crunchball game they attend.
#FowlFest2020 Day two: Headcanon day! I’ll be posting several throughout the day, make sure you follow @artemis-fowl-incident-report for more and information on the up-and-coming fan made podcast we’ve been working on ;)

@shadoedseptmbr replied to this post:
I *had* wondered if the blood sugar thing being tricky with Sam was a thing unique to him! Nicely done!
You know what’s really wild about this, and this is one of those “writing is so full of amazing happy accidents” kind of stories - the reason this headcanon exists is because I really fucking wanted Kaidan and Sam to snuggle under a blanket in Sonata.
I wanted that scene. Badly. But I couldn’t back into it. If they were going to snuggle under a blanket without actually being a couple, Sam would have to be cold, right? Ok, no problem. Spacer guy. He gets cold, easy, right? But the problem is Vancouver isn’t that cold. And no matter how I tried to spin Sam being a total wuss about climate, I didn’t believe myself. He’s spec ops. And a biotic who naturally runs hot. He’s just not going to be that big of a baby about 7C, even if he is a spacer.
I went back and forth on how I could get him to be cold enough A) for Kaidan to give him his jacket and B) to be grudgingly willing to snuggle under a blanket. I rewrote the damn scene about three times. Then I had a eureka moment about it being a blood sugar issue.
I couldn’t really confirm that being temperature sensitive was an actual thing that could happen after your blood sugar crashes, but fuck, this is literal space magic we’re talking about here. So yes, Sam gets shivery when his biotics lead to a blood sugar crash and NEEDS TO SNUGGLE UNDER A BLANKET.
Sam having blood sugar issues also immediately paid dividends with this scene, which is one of my absolute favorites:
Kaidan attaches the drug pack to the injector. Takes him a moment to remember how to do it manually. He’s used to loading it in a suit mexo. He links the injector to his omnitool and uploads the imaging data for Shepard’s hip to program the disbursement.
“Why did you insist on going out there tonight?” Kaidan asks.
“To clear my head for tomorrow,” Shepard says, hissing through his teeth when he shifts on the bed.
Kaidan gives him a baffled look.
“I’m tough on your sanity, but you’re good for mine. Guess that makes me the selfish one.”
Kaidan hands him the injector, flush creeping up the back of his neck. Shepard takes it, stares at it, then hands it back. “Need you to do it.”
“Why?”
Shepard holds up his hand. It trembles.
Kaidan laughs, opens the medkit back up and tosses him a juice packet and an energy bar. Shepard scowls. “Somehow I get the feeling you packed that thing explicitly for me.”
“I did.”
“You’re the worst.”
“Do you want the patch or not?”
Shepard grunts and undoes his belt. “You’re putting me in a compromising position here.”
“I promise not to take advantage.”
“Too bad.”
I fucking love that scene.
Anyway, it was already my headcanon that Sam is a terrible eater, so it seemed really likely this happens to him a lot. But as I’ve been writing Kaidan’s trauma and grief response to Sam’s death, he also has a major lack of appetite and I can’t have him just fainting all over the place. That’s when the, “huh, maybe this is a Sam thing instead of a standard biotic thing” came into play. And all the pieces just fit together in a way that I love.
So, yeah, I had a really cool piece of headcanon that has became a huge part of Sam’s character development fall out of the sky as a direct result of my self-indulgent insistence that these two idiot space marines were going to cuddle under a blanket so help me.

WIP Whenever
@bladeverbena said “consider yourself tagged” when i mentioned that no one had tagged me yet so have some krogan headcanons/duke and wrex bonding
“Then away, boys, away — away for Rio…” Duke only knew a few verses of this one by heart, but the tempo matched the slow, rolling rhythm of the drive core and its echo along the biotic nodes on their spine. “Sing fare thee well, me Liverpool girl, and we’re bound for the Rio Grande.”
“What’re you yowling about?”
Duke flicked their omnitool — and the (honestly embarrassing) drawing of the Normandy — closed and leaned over the side of their current perch-slash-stack-of-crates. “Yowling? I was singing.”
“Sure didn’t sound like any singing I’ve ever heard,” Wrex grumbled, rubbing at where Duke guessed one of his ear-holes might be.
“Well, excuse me for not being a krogan contrabass.” Duke swung their legs over the side to see below better.
Wrex bristled, baring his teeth. “A krogan what?”
“Wait, that’s not an insult, I swear!” Duke held out their hands in a peace offering. “It’s a musical term. Contrabass is a low voice — a really low voice. Like yours. And — every other krogan I’ve ever heard, come to think of it.”
“Then what’s your pyjak squeak called?”
Duke had the distinct feeling he was humoring them in order to poke fun, but they answered anyway, as mock-dignified as they could: “I am what is called a soprano.”
“Uh-huh.” Wrex grinned.
Something struck Duke, and they leaned forward. “What kind of singing do krogan do, anyway?”
“Huh.” Wrex scratched his head. “Well, ours is more…y’know, about fighting. I don’t really know how to describe it.”
“Okay, well, um…” Duke flicked open their omnitool again, swiping away the Normandy doodle, and pulled up what little music they had stored on it. No, they doubted it sounded anything like human electronic music — krogan didn’t strike Duke as opera people (unless they were? That would be rad) — hmm. Honestly, shanties like “Rio Grande” actually seemed like the best bet. “Is it anything like this?”
“Fifteen men on a dead man’s chest — yo ho ho and a bottle of rum — drink and the devil have done for the rest — yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!” The voices were deep, some men’s choir back on Earth singing an ancient sea shanty.
Krogan expressions weren’t anything like humans’, given the forehead plate obscuring any eyebrows they might have had, but Duke could swear Wrex was frowning in concentration as he stepped closer to listen. “Yeah,” he said. “That’s kinda like it.”
The drive core suddenly gave off a pulse so strong that Duke didn’t just feel it in their spine. It vibrated its way along all their bones, and they turned in alarm toward the engineering bay before it happened again — a different pitch this time — and oh, that wasn’t coming from the drive core.
Wrex was giving a low hum, deep, deep in his chest, and Duke fumbled for the pause button. “Do that again.”
“Do what?” The sound was gone, and Duke frowned before Wrex realized, “Oh, the singing.”
It vibrated its way into Duke’s bones, down their spine, working in tandem with the drive core’s reverberation along their nodes to send shivers through Duke’s whole body. Across the cargo bay, Garrus and Ashley even stopped their work to look around for the source. “Holy shit,” Duke said. “That’s krogan singing?”

For the ME ask: 18, 19, 23, and 38?
Share a headcanon about Shepard and their LI.
OH!  Okay, Aedan and Kaidan had several almost meetings before they were assigned to the Normandy.  She’d be leaving a ship as he was boarding; they had the same rack assigned once; he was assigned to the squad following up on her scout work.  They know a few people in common, casually.  They once very briefly dated (in Kaidan’s case) and hooked up with (in Aedan’s case) the same guy.
And they have a few small kisses before the big “this is it” kiss before Ilos.  Aedan kisses him on the cheek once, Kaidan kisses her knuckles a couple of times, she kisses his temple when he’s recovered from a not too bad migraine after the mission to stop Major Kyle.
Why did they fall for each other?
There’s instant attraction but falling for each other was a series of respect, then admiration, then fondness.  The actual free fall on Aedan’s part is realizing how quickly she’s come to rely on him how very much she doesn’t want to move on.  She’s never quite sure *why,* she’s met a lot of good people she was attracted to.  Because it was him.  It was never going to be anyone else.  For Kaidan, it’s much the same.  There are things about her that drive him crazy but she’s Aedan.
Do they have any inside jokes?  She tends to call him Major to poke him about out ranking her, they jab each other about the very particular omnitool programs they like, he teases her about her competitive streak, she cackles when he grabs the suicide handle as soon as he enters a vehicle with her.  Nothing huge but they have fun!
Favourite non-Shepard OTP?
I really like Tali and Kal, Steve and Kaidan, and James and Ashley but I can’t pick a favorite.

I really like this cap, she looks so focused here. Like her omnitool looks slightly different in my headcanon (It’s silver, not gold) but but yeah, she may not be an engineer but her omnitool is a monster of a rig. (She keeps games on it, you guys, including bloody SKYRIM)

Vetra anon again. Some people said strap on or Vetra licking Ryder. Yes, but I'm talking about things to do to a female turian, not what they can do to a female human.
I don't see the problem here. You headcanon male Turians have dicks, therefore female Turians must have compatible vaginas (unless you're into traumatic insertion, in which case please enjoy that content elsewhere, I want nothing to do with it).
Ryder can wear a strap or finger her girlfriend just as Vetra can do it to her. Ryder can also use her mouth or any variety of toys (vibrating, sound, electricity, plain ol' plastic/latex/rubber).
Not everything is about the genitals, though. There are probably other sensitive spots where facial plates connect. Scratch them, nibble at them? Idk.
I don't really care about Turians enough to imagine them naked, but if I had to come up with something... are they even mammals? Do they give live birth? If so, they need soft stretchy parts down there, so it's easy access and you can just go with Ryder slobbering all over that blueish clit. If they lay eggs, however, their holes would still be soft and stretchy, but depending on the shape and the size of the eggs, it can look very different. Probably more round/butthole-looking that a slit? With like, a lot of nerves hidden under the skin all around, instead of being concentrated in a single spot, so lick it more round and round instead of just lapping it up like a kitty milk.
Consider sci-fi toys like omnitools or biotic pressure, if Ryder's a biotic.
Maybe there is some sensitivity-increasing gel Ryder could sensually rub into Vetra, make her all hot and tingly before going down on her? There's this lube that tastes like tropical fruits, good shit. Vetra probably smuggled a bottle or two.
If you want to write sex, generally, I'd say focus less on the specific details of what the genitals look like, and more on sensations. The burning need, the stretchy feeling of Ryder slipping inside, that sort of stuff.
Just imagine what you think is sexy and roll with it. You ain't writing an anatomy schoolbook. There are no rules but having fun!
