hi hi 👋 icyqueen I love your jossam fics on ao3 and am simply blown away by how you bring the characters to life, especially the crepes. Your dialogue is always so entertaining. Like how do you write them so well.

anyway, I’m hope you’re still doing requests cause I was thinking about that lovely wonderful fic “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” that I yelled to you about on ao3 and how I really enjoyed reading josh flip his shit over sams safety. So in that same vein, I was wondering if you could write about the until dawn final scene/flipping the switch but in Josh’s perspective. And how he would react to Sam being the who has to stall, face handigo and risk her life saving everyone.

The high school rumor mill didn't have shit on whatever it was the hospital had going on. Everywhere he went, there was another murmur, a whisper only half-hidden behind an out-of-date magazine - "They said..." or "Well, I guess..." or "What I heard..." - a piece of a puzzle he hadn't even known he'd been putting together, and high holy shit, he had never wanted to know the ending of a story less.

But he'd grown up in a house where plots were discussed at the dinner table; where twists were dismissed as too predictable or not predictable enough. Just because he didn't want to know how this one went didn't stop the knowing from happening.

So he waited until she came to do her usual round (visiting Jess as her stitches healed, visiting Mike as he worked his way through PT, visiting him as all the king's horses and all the king's men tried to put his ass back together again). And then he asked.

"What's this I keep hearing about a light switch?"

Sam watched him for a second, maybe two, maybe a hundred and thirty-seven for all he knew, then blinked and shrugged as if he'd asked about the weather. "I don't know. What do you keep hearing about a light switch?"

And there it was: The Impasse. The one they'd been sidling along since he'd been dragged out of the mines, his eyes too sensitive to open in the sunlight. Most days they just sort of crept towards it, talking pleasantly enough without actually approaching the edge; today it seemed they'd decided to jump in headfirst, not bothering to check for handrails or safety nets before careening towards the dark, spiraling pit that was This Conversation.

Sam watched him. Sam blinked. Sam waited, and waited, and waited, and if her goal had been to show him how it felt, being appraised and goaded and puppeteered at his most vulnerable, well...he couldn't say it didn't work. A little, anyway. He had to figure it still wasn't quite the same - she'd had that nice, fluffy towel after all, and the only thing he had was a flimsy old hospital gown.

"Rumor has it," he started again, fighting to keep his tone blasé (or, at the very least, level), "you weren't exactly conforming to air safety rules the other night." When it didn't get a response, he sniffed and explained the joke, "Y'know. Help yourself before you help others. Attach your oxygen mask first."

She sat on the visitor chair and watched him. One ankle folded over the other, and as the hem of her pantleg rode up, he could see the bandages wrapped beneath. Still white. So there was that.

"You just, what, pulled a Scooby-Doo? Ran around, clapped your hands, hid under furniture, that kind of thing? Where'd that athlete's spirit go, huh? Where'd miss 'Oh-don't-worry-about-it-I'll-just-fucking-CLIMB-out-of-this-mineshaft-barehanded' go? Don't tell me I took it out of you down in the basement, because we both know you barely broke a sweat at that, so - " He realized his face was getting hot and stopped. His chest had gone tight too, but there were a million reasons that might've happened, so he didn't bother looking the most obvious in the face. Instead he swallowed hard and forced himself to mimic himself, pressing his mouth into a slash a passerby could've mistaken for a smirk. "What gives?"

Sam shrugged. She didn't seem interested in doing much else. Maybe she was worried there was still something wrong inside of him, something inhuman, something that would pounce if she stood or shook her head or tucked her hair behind her ear; maybe she just didn't care. "Someone had to be the last one out," she explained, and again, her tone suggested something about the weather.

"But why you?"

"It had to be someone."

"But why you?!" And fuck, maybe there was something still wrong inside of him, because suddenly his vision was blurred and his lungs ached like they'd been squeezed. His face prickled, his stomach twisted, and none of it was normal - none of it - none of it was right. The room was too small and too bright and too fucking sterile, leaving him nowhere to hide.

"You could've died!" he found himself saying (though he guessed he might've just imagined it, the ringing of his ears so high and shrill). "You could've fucking died, and for what? For who?! For them?! What if something had happened to you - what if you'd gotten hurt? What if - " I was alone, his traitorous mind finished for him when his voice shattered and broke, What if I'd woken up in this awful fucking place without my sisters AND without you? What if what if what if...

It wasn't until he dropped his head into his hands that he heard her leave her chair; it wasn't until he felt the shitty mattress pad dip beside him that the tears came. But by then her arms were around him and she'd somehow saved him too, her skin so warm against his she might as well have just stepped away from the fire.

The hospital rumor mill would have a field day with this one, he thought, but that would be fine. He didn't have the first clue how this story was going to end - only how he wanted it to. He'd take all the help he could get.

I’ve kinda gone into my thoughts on this before if you go through my ask tag but to recap.. yeah i’d say it’s dick. the word favorite is kind of a relative term and it’s mostly used for comedic purposes rather than any kind of serious character analysis lol but i just really really don’t think it’s possible to top the relationship dick had with bruce. lyke. that kind of insane codependent attachment developed between bruce (in his 20s) and dick (8 yrs old) just can never ever be replicated. it’s studied by scientists. overall i just think dick had the advantage of time tbh. you’d be hard pressed to argue a different wayne kid has a deeper or closer relationship to bruce & a lot of that is due to the fact that they met when dick was 8 instead of already a teen.

like I’ve said though cass is a special case too because of how freakily similar she and bruce are. which i think in different ways both helps and hurts their relationship.

at the end of the day it’s kinda. 🤷‍♀️ like idk i think it’s not the most important question in terms of character & relationship analysis lol it’s so subjective. though it’s probably a safe bet to default to dick in most cases👍

"Y/N? What are you doing out here?"

"Oh, Ray!" You immediately perked up at the sound of the voice you knew so well, jumping up onto your feet from the small patch of soil you were crouching in before and turning to face him fully, a giddy smile slowly forming on your face as you took in his curious gaze. It was akin to an instinct that you couldn't control. The sight of him there made you feel so happy that it was hard to contain your excitement. "Sorry. Were you worried for me? I knew I should have texted you..."

"No, no, it's quite alright... You're one of us now, and Magenta is your home. I'm just... surprised." He smiled sheepishly at you, his shoulders relaxing little by little as he took in your cheery demeanor. It was apparent to you that your new status was a strange change for him, despite his efforts to make you feel comfortable. After all, he has grown so close with you in the last couple of weeks... It was probably hard for him to view you as a fellow believer now, rather than his precious tester.

You quickly dusted yourself off before picking up a plastic water can that you were busy working with before. "Well, I wanted to plant some flowers! It was supposed to be a surprise for you, but... I'm, uh, actually kind of struggling here. The gardener I saw acted all antsy around me for some reason, so I didn't want to bother the poor guy. Say... if you, maybe, have some free time on your hands... could you help me out? Just a little?"

After all, it was worth a shot trying to ask him.

"Well, of course! You've done so much for me ever since I came here! I simply wanted to repay the favor. After all, I know how much you love your flower friends. So, can you lend me a hand so that I don't kill any of these poor innocent seedlings?" You chat with him in a lighthearted tone, eager to keep the mood pleasant and comfortable between the two of you. Ray had a tendency to get lost in his own thoughts at times! And, you wanted to distract him a bit from the recent mess up with the Savior that has kept him stressed and anxious throughout the last week.

Ray's eyes practically lit up as you said that, revealing a pale blush on his cheeks in a matter of seconds. He seemed to be rather taken aback by your invitation... in a good way, from what you could see. "A... A surprise? For me...?"

"O-Of course. I'd love to." Although there was a slight stutter in his soft voice, he took a small step towards you. His eyes locked onto yours with an emotion that was a mix between gratitude and admiration. It appears that he was ready for the task after all!

"Great! So, uh, I'm actually unsure of how much water the soil needs, so could you help me with that? Those are white camelia seedlings... I read up on the right way to plant them, but it's not as easy as I thought." You explained to him with an awkward chuckle, crouching down next to the small spot of fresh soil you've chosen to plant in and gesturing around all the gardening equipment you managed to bring out with you. Although the gardener believer was anxious, he was willing to carry all the heavy stuff for you, and you were grateful for that.

He made it look so easy... like it was second nature to him. You only wished he could have more time and freedom on his hands to pursue these small activities that actually brought him joy... but, since you didn't want to ruin the moment, you never brought up this forbidden topic at hand.

Soon, you were both working in comfortable silence, nothing but the gentle rustle of greenery and the evening melody of crickets interrupting the sound of your gradual progress. Although, by this time, you spent more energy on ogling Ray than actually gardening. You couldn't help yourself! He looked so graceful as his hands placed each tiny seed in its respective hole... You never knew something like gardening could even look graceful! But, oh, what you liked most of all was seeing how... peaceful Ray's gaze has become the longer you worked. He appeared completely relaxed at this moment, enjoying doing something he loved and not worrying about anything. For this brief magical moment, at the very least.

"Oh hey, that one looks like a kitty!" You called out, pointing out the specific cluster of clouds you were talking about, with a silly snicker falling from your lips. There was something so... relaxing about doing this with him. It's possible to forget the huge imposing castle made of white marble towering behind you and, for a brief moment, find yourself free as a bird amidst these fluffy clouds. It was bittersweet, in a way.

The initial plan was to help you with your gardening effort, but it turned out to be cloud-watching as you sat next to each other on the lush grass, your arms barely touching. The closeness is just right to make your heart race, but not too much to cause anything prohibited within Mint Eye. Sort of like a secret date.

"I'm afraid I can't really see that, but your imagination is something definitely worth of admiration." Ray chuckled quietly, shaking his head a bit as he glanced at you with amusement before returning his attention to the rosy evening sky above.

"Y-Yes?" He stuttered, his gaze now glued to you, even as his cheeks grew redder and redder as he inevitably took notice of just how close your faces truly were now that you laid your head on his shoulder.

As you laid your head on his shoulder, sighing with a sense of peacefulness that enveloped you like a warm blanket, he jolted and made a tiny adorable squeak at your sudden touch. You were aware that he didn't object to this. Ray was someone almost as touch-starved as you... although, it took you some time to realize that his jumpy reactions weren't made out of discomfort, but rather unfamiliarity with such gestures of affection. "...Ray?"

"Do you know the meaning of white camelia?"

"That's right. You're adorable." You whispered affectionately to him, as if it were a secret meant only to be shared between you, then leaning in and leaving a chaste kiss on the tip of his nose.

Your question caused his flustered mind to scramble and his eyes to grow wide. It wasn't long before a shaky gasp came from his lips, making you giggle in response.

6. Favorite band: UM. I don’t listen to very many bands actually. my first thought was The Band Camino, even though I hardly know their music but I do really like what I know, and I have seen them in concert.

A Dash of Angst ...

It was hard to not care for someone. Especially as an AI whos whole purpose was to be an aid.

An aid for someone who—quite frequently—could be a total jerk to everyone, except for her.

Miguel O’Hara.

It’s not like she wanted to care about him so deeply. She shouldn’t be able to, in theory. But somehow he gave her emotions, an angsty virus gone wrong, and suddenly everything around her seemed to light up.

Now, instead of mimicry, she could actually feel and interact with emotions. This would be lovely, if not for the weakness that came with it.

So, she had now taken it upon herself to fake emotions. Or rather—fake the lack of emotion.

And it had been going well—for the most part—until a freak accident gone wrong had her scrambling, mind frantic and frayed, as Miguel lay in front of her, wheezing with his hand pressed to his side.

This wasn’t how the mission was supposed to go. It was supposed to be an easy in and out, and yet the universe just had it out for every Spider-Man to never have it easy.

And Miguel was no exception.

Backup had been called minutes ago, but there was no blinding portal appearing in front of the two to save the day. She was sure that she had popped a fuse or two back at HQ with how stressed she felt right now.

A pained groan from Miguel brought her back to the land of the living and she materialized next to his head, her anxiety painted across her face.

“Do you know how bad it is?” Christ, she’s never been so stupidly worried before.

Miguel opened his mouth to respond, but instead closed it just as fast, his canines clacking together in a grating manner. His face pulled taut and his fingers clenched tighter over the gaping wound in his side.

“LYLA-“ Miguel breathed out, his voice coming out raw and raspy. She didn’t look at his face—couldn’t—instead looking down at his wound, his blood leaking out and mixing with the dirt.

A reminder of his mortality, she mused.

“LYLA.” Miguel repeated. And this time, LYLA looked up, fully taking in the look on Miguel’s face.

He looked to be in so much pain, and yet, an almost amused expression was faintly to be seen. LYLA scowled at that, vowing to scold him later for daring to smile while he was clearly in mortal danger. (she didn’t end up scolding him + had yet to learn that smiling or laughing in danger helped diffuse tensions)

“Why are you smiling?” LYLA frowned, her fingers flying over her multitude of chats to spam for backup, yet her eyes never straying from Miguel’s face all the while.

“Because you look worried,” Miguel hissed as he accidentally dug a finger into the wound, blood trailing along his fingertips.

LYLA puffed her cheeks out, putting away her chats and materializing next to the wound so she could check on how bad the bleeding was.

“It’s because I am worried.”

Miguel raised an eyebrow, moving the hand to let her see the damage easier. “It’s almost as if you cared.”

Was that teasing in his voice? LYLA glowered up at Miguel, “Well, it’d be a lot easier if I actually cared as little as I pretend to.”

Miguel opened his mouth to retort, but by how luck would have it, the portal opened behind them, Jessica and Peter coming out together with a small gaggle of Junior-Spiders following.

“Sorry we are late!” Spider-Terra exclaimed, peeping out from behind Spider-Punk. “There was an issue with the watches.”

LYLA nearly sighed before realizing there was no need for her to show her exasperation to a teen, and instead turned to the two adults.

“I’m not sure of the damage, but he’s still bleeding out from a massive hole in his side, there’s probably a broken rib, and I’m thinking some major bruising to his lungs.”

Peter quickly took over Miguel for her, promising LYLA that he’d stay with Miguel in the infirmary so she could dissapear to go handle any issues in the society that had piled up while the two were on the mission. (Jessica took the juniors to go handle the anomaly)

The day after, when LYLA went to visit Miguel, he didn’t bring up her words, instead asking about any paperwork that needed to be done.

LYLA wasn’t sure if she was relieved or not about that, but decided to let it be in the past and change her future to allow it to be a little more caring.

my brothers and dad are currently watching a football game so i have to kill some time. i asked my mom to send me the list of all the books i read for junior high/highschool (i'm homeschooled so she was my teacher/made my curriculum that's why i asked her)

not sure how i'm gonna rate/rank these yet but yeah

To Kill a Mockingbird

by Harper Lee

this one is a school classic. and honestly, i did enjoy it. i will say i had a hard time reading it when i did, not because of the actual writing/language, but rather because i had no idea how courts worked so i didn't understand any of the courtroom scenes. i'm not sure why i didn't know about courts yet. i'm sure i learned about it in school but i hadn't seen it visually (like in a show or video or anything) so i think it was hard for me to picture. i'm sure if i read TKAM again now i would enjoy it more.

Okay i will say i definitely was really confused when i read this. I liked the story and i'm glad i've read it, because i mean it's kinda famous and i feel like it has some good elements. but it was hard for me to read and appreciate. too much deciphering. I think this is another book that i would appreciate more if i reread now that i'm older.

I did not reading shakespeare in school. in general, i dont like reading plays or older english or epics or anything like that. The only thing i appreciated at all about this play while reading it was that it had characters who were actors that put on a play . play within a play. this did not make reading the play worth it though lol. i think now the only reason i care at all about it is because of Dead Poet's Society

okay guys. this is one of my favorite books that i've read for school. it is one of 2 (i think) that i've actually sat and reread outside of school assignments. not hard to read at all. had some crazy good lines. and it was about animals! (or was it?) i would reread it repeatedly. and i would and have recommended it to people.

The Hiding Place

This was the other book that i reread outside of school assignments. it's another that i would (and have) recommended to people. I really loved this book while reading it. i've always been interested in ww2, ever since my dad gave me an anne frank graphic novel when i was like less than 10 lol. so this book was not only interesting from a historical viewpoint, but i also found it pretty inspiring and emotional. it's been a minute since i've read it, but i would read it again.

this book was a rollercoaster and i always have a hard time remembering everything that happened. i remember finding it interesting, unsettling at times (intentionally), and it was a decent read. i think this was one of many school books that was ruined in part because i was supposed to take notes and write essays on it and stuff.

ok i'll admit i enjoyed reading this. thriller and mystery has always been fun for me to read. i will say, i'm 80-90% sure that i was spoiled. not because it's really popular and maybe i heard of the twist. no. because there's a VEGGIETALES PARODY. yeah. anyways. i dont know if i would reread this or not, but i am glad to have read it.

This is another one of the pretty solid books i've read for school. I would even go as far as to recommend it. Do i remember everything about it? definitely not. But i know i liked reading it and i would probably reread it if i get the chance. It had some pretty cool ideas and themes. i remember when i first read it, i thought the beginning poem (which the book is named after) was pretty cool too. so much that i somehow memorized it: "things fall apart, the centre cannot hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world". i had to look it up but the poem is called The Second Coming. Anyways, another cool book.

i hated reading this. i didn't like the act of reading the format. i didnt like the language. and i didn't even like the plot. or the characters. there is not really any redeeming quality to this for me. i'm sorry if you really like this book and are sad that i don't agree. sorry not really sorry. the only reason i'm glad to any extent that i read it is because my assignment for it, instead of an essay, was to make a comic for a scene of it. which was mildly fun.

although more interesting by far than midsummer night's SNORE (i'm joking), i was still mildly bored reading this. i am glad i read it for the sake of reading it. but i did not particularly enjoy reading. in general, the story of romeo and juliet isn't really for me. i was just annoyed with them the whole time??? like they're so dumb. i mean in juliet's defense i think she's supposed to be like 13 so what does she know but whatever. i still didn't really like reading it.

Frankenstein: 1818

by Mary Shelley

this book was crazy and dark but it was pretty interesting and i'd maybe even reread it. it's a well known story but reading for myself everything crazy that happens really made me think. the morality of it all and whatnot. i think maybe the main downside to reading this was i got kinda grossed out. i don't sit well with depictions of anything morbid or gore-y or cannibalism. makes me a little physically uncomfortable. but i still liked reading this book overall. also since i read it i can get mad when people mix up the doctor and the creature. i can also understand this really dumb frankenstein meme

i did enjoy this book. it's a graphic novel, so it was a quick read. i wouldn't say it's my favorite graphic novel but it has a lot of cool themes and elements. i would say i maybe like another graphic novel by the same author, boxers and saints, better. but i didn't read that for school so i'm not rating it.

after reminding myself about this book's existence, i am pretty sure i liked it. but who cares about the literal plot of the novel when we can look into the author being subtly lgbtq coded. the evidence, your honor: first of all, my antonia itself is told from the perspective of Jim, a dude. and it's about his relationship with this girl who eventually gets married but he still cares about her deeply and he reminisces (idk that it's inherently romantic, but it's something). and why does this matter? Willa Cather wrote a lot from the male perspective, and people think it was to avoid being criticized for lesbian relationships. But this is just the tip of the iceberg!!!!!! the craziest part is that Willa had several very close relationships with women. including ahem (from wikipedia) "most notably, the editor Edith Lewis, with whom Cather lived the last 39 years of her life." HISTORIANS WILL SAY THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS. this doesn't really have much to do with the book but i remember seeing this while researching back when i read the book and i was like yooooo ????

i'm not sure how much i can count this because i didn't technically read the whole thing. i read parts of a book about the musical and then i watched a recording of it. if i can count it, i would say it's really fun and i enjoy it a lot and would like to see it live one day. the only reason it's not a 10 is because i don't think Lin Manuel Miranda is the best singer. like he's a talented writer but compared to angelic leslie odom jr, lin is not my favorite.

i feel like this book was supposed to be unsettling probably but it really made me uncomfortable. i think there were maybe some sexual things including some creepy ones. and me personally when i am assigned a book with that by my mom/teacher i was like why do i have to read this. now that i think about it, i'm pretty sure i was so uncomfortable with it that i asked my mom to cover up those parts with sticky notes. the story was interesting but those parts really made me not like it

Oh! This was from a long time ago when I was working on my Witch Hat Atelier fic, 'Cascade(s)', that's unfortunately incomplete (because life happens), but I found out that "blue is a pigment that is unstable and dangerous”, and it is actually about Cobalt Blue pigment irl. Also, scientifically speaking, the safest pigment of blue is this pigment that's called YlnMn Blue / MasBlue that contains the the elements Yttrium, Indium, Manganese, and Oxygen. #TheMoreYouKnowIfYouDidNot

And, yes, I worry a lot about fact-checking because I'm the type of person who'd look up shit if I find something niche and interesting in the things I read to make sure if it's real/not. I reflect on that behavior as both a reader and a writer to clear more path for me for the plot or to make it as ornaments for the story, so it's more interesting.
