you met gaara on a mission with team 7

your own team mates were all hospitalized in a past mission so you were sent with kakashi’s team to deal with some bandits at the border to the land of wind

during your fight against sand shinobi, your alpha instincts urged you into taking a kunai for the redheaded omega

gaara is shocked

naruto is pissed at you and starts yelling about ultimate defense

you realize later that it was completely senseless for you to jump in front of gaara, seeing as how he is protected by his sand

you and gaara grow closer during the mission, to the surprise of everyone

after the mission is over, you keep in touch with gaara through letters

you see each other a few times on different missions but when he becomes kazegake, this stops

gaara won’t admit it but he misses seeing you, even if it was a somewhat rare occurrence

it isn’t long into his reign as kazegage, that you start receiving letters of him in which he complains about the council pushing him to finding an alpha

really the council had only brought it up like once that he should consider finding a mate soon but gaara secretly hopes that if you think he is supposed to find an alpha, you might come and claim him

you don’t see this though and actually think the exact opposite, that he is trying to politely let you know that he will be finding an alpha in sunagakure and is trying to break contact

when you learn of him getting kidnapped by the akatsuki however, you go ballistic and follow naruto to save your omega

you break down when you find him dead and as chiyo gives her life for him, you are more than thankful to her

she tells you to grow some balls and confess to him when he’s awake since everyone can smell your distressed alpha scent

you listen to her advise and tell gaara of your feelings as soon as he’s able to comprehend things said to him

as he tells you that he feels the same for you and your scent shifts again, everyone around you is cheering

you move to sunagakure relatively quickly since he, as kazekage, can’t leave and you can’t really keep an alpha from their omega for long

now finally getting into your relationship:

when he isn’t on duty he needs all them cuddles, always

also, get’s super soft if you tell him what a good omega he is

after you move to sunagakure, he asks you to mark him pretty quickly

if you become a sand shinobi, he absolutely hates sending you on missions

you already don’t have a lot of time to spend together because of his duties as kazekage and it’s even worse if you’re on missions

so he will prefer if you become an instructor or stop being a shinobi altogether but he won’t stop you from doing what you want because he wants you to be happy

he won’t admit it but he loves seeing you get along with his siblings

generally, he isn’t very vocal about his affections

shows it instead by literally clinging to you when you are alone

Achievement unlocked anon.... you've found one of my favorite things. Like raindrops on roses etc etc, poly au's make me smile. They usually require situations where things have gone particularly right or things are at least going right enough for a time. I'm also not a big fan of any kind of character vs character outright jealousness, and will preferentially pick a poly au instead.

Unusual pairings that require specific scenarios to come together are fun to do but I suck at coming up with them, so probably people have already done things with the pairings I think of, but that's fine.

(That said! I think you could come up with justifications for any triad you want to, but it always requires trust and communication to work.)

Itachi x Reader x Shisui

For years I thought these two were cousins, which is a personal squick, but that seems to be more of a Uchiha fam au preference than reality so I could see Itachi being willing to share an Alpha with someone he trusted as much as Shisui. Even if they are willing to share with each other though, there is balance required in this pairing to allow Itachi and Shisui to remain friends. Romantic relationships are all well and good, but isolating yourself from the other people in your life because of them is not so good. Itachi in particular does not need more isolation. Shisui however I don't see as being particularly willing to share with anyone but Itachi and this scenario would happen only if Itachi and his Alpha wanted or needed to pull Shisui in for some reason.

Kakashi x Reader x Iruka

Kakashi seems less the sharing type and is contradictory in his interpersonal relationships. He's possessive and loyal yet detached. He might however get along in a romantic relationship with certain people. He teases Iruka with the aim to fluster but they get along well and Iruka has never been overawed by Kakashi's status or skill level, never afraid to challenge him. Unfortunately, my head is a bit empty about how these three would get together because it sort of needs to happen all at once. Either you and Kakashi start courting first and then add Iruka or somehow Kakashi claims you and Iruka simultaneously and then you and Iruka start courting each other. Kakashi is even more shy in this scenario than when it's just him and Alpha though, feels like he's asking too much of the universe.

Reader x Nagato x Yahiko x Konan

The order of these names is very key here. Through the limitations of not knowing any of the other people around him, and also knowing his friends are the only ones with his full implicit trust, I can only really see Nagato having a polycule in this kind of order. Konan doesn't like him at first the way an Alpha likes and Omega, but she does like to see Yahiko and Nagato happy and would be intrigued at the prospect of them finding pleasure in one another. I think Yahiko might be interested in knowing more about what Nagato sees in his Alpha, and Nagato would enjoy seeing Yahiko engage with his Alpha. Konan is really hot and she and Nagato's Alpha make out at least a few times while Nagato and Yahiko are doing the same. Konan eventually sleeps with Nagato, but it's the last thing that happens. It's nice because it opens opportunities to truly overwhelm him.

Reader x Itachi x Kisame (cw: mentions of eggs)

Another pairing where order matters. Itachi and his Alpha claim each other first, and then Kisame joins. I HC that Kisame's genetics don't align him with the usual a/b/o dynamics. (There's also a nonzero chance of eggs being involved.) Kisame also isn't affected by Itachi's heat the same way, and he doesn't bond the way an Alpha and Omega do. Kisame's instinct is to be a good protector and caretaker for Itachi based on respect alone, but realizing Itachi is capable of certain emotions awakens something in Kisame. He's not good with romantic feelings, doesn't really feel them at all. Itachi is still special though, and once his Alpha wins Kisame's respect from one predator to another, albeit of a different kind, he becomes curious about the different layers to their bond.

I could see Sai being open to having multiple Alphas, but not having another omega close enough in that way for that kind of triad, mostly because those omegas are already happily with another Alpha

Naruto and Sasuke could absolutely share an Alpha, they've shown their personalities to match in the right way to eventually pull it off.

Gaara and Sasuke might actually be able to share an Alpha, but it would be a more casual relationship where Sasuke is sort of in and out as need be, away for long periods of time

Gaara and Naruto could be able to share an Alpha but it would be a political nightmare

Finally, this is truly a rare pair I'm sure, but I could actually see Haku and Gaara getting along really well, well enough to share an Alpha. Also you get fun little ocean/desert motifs to play with

modern AUs are good, and i do like either college ones or schoolteacher ones, and royal AUs as well. as far as ones i dislike goes, it's hard for me to find one that i won't give a chance to, but i would have to say that ones involve alpha/beta/omega ones got old to me pretty fast and i generally won't click on a story featuring it

I headcanon that Gaara loses control of his sand during the birth of his pup because of just how painful it is for him, especially because of his lower then average (atleast by Shinobi standards) pain tolerance due to not being exposed to it for a majority of his lifetime even after his faulty seal was fixed.

So when he experiences hours worth of the most agonizing pain a person can go through, his sand automatically lashes out at everything and anything. He basically has to be locked up in a highly secured base far away from the village with only the best med nin & ninja for this reason.

His mate is vital in Gaara’s birth and they would have undergone specific training to allow them to ease his pain/tighten up his seal. After the birth though, Gaara’s sand is the most calm it’s ever been (at-least until someone unknown steps even a foot near him, then they get the full sand coffin treatment)

Hmm, this is really interesting! I think that Gaara would absolutely have to have suppression seals put on him when he went into labour to avoid this exact situation.

However, perhaps, if Gaara went into labour very early while he was traveling for an important summit, he might have to have an emergency desert birth without the suppression seals... which... would be seriously rough for him.

If Gaara's mate isn't a shinobi, they might be forced to leave him and that would be awful for him, he would be so upset. His shinobi team would probably decide that his decision making abilities were impaired and shift the power down to the next in command. After all, it's the culture in Suna to have the alpha wait away when the omega is giving birth, so his shinobi wouldn't hesitate to separate them if there was any danger to the mate.

For his second pregnancy, he would absolutely refuse to leave Suna at all. Not surprising after his traumatic experience the first time around!

"No, I need them," Gaara panicked as his shinobi set up an emergency tent of medical supplies and began escorting his mate away from his for safety reasons. "Don't take them, that's an order!"

His shinobi looked at each other for a moment, and at the sand that was starting to swirl all around them.

"You've been compromised, Kage-sama, your orders are not currently valid," her voice was regretful was firm. She clearly wasn't going to change her mind.

"I'm sorry, omega," you shouted at him as two shinobi escorted you away from him. You would give anything to be with him, and your instincts were screaming at you to get to your mate, but you knew Gaara would never forgive himself if he hurt you (or even killed you) by accident. "It's going to be okay, I promise!"

Before you could be fully dragged away, you quickly shrugged off your jacket and threw it towards Gaara so he could have something with your scent on it.

That was the best you could do.

Which Naruto and death note boys are most likely to be the first one to have a pup?

(I'll answer this by age rather than order, because some characters have larger age gaps 👍🏻 I have a very detailed timeline for the Naruto boys which I can consult lol.)

Itachi - He has his first child between about 19-22, making him the youngest of the characters that I put on my timeline. He just craves that family life so badly, not the mention that he wants to retire as soon as possible, so he tries to conceive starting from his honeymoon (and he gets married as young as he can once he finds the right alpha.) There's quite a large age gap between his first and second pup though, because he had to take a long recovery period after the traumatic birth.

Gaara - He falls not far behind Itachi, actually, having his first pup at 21-23. He felt ready and his country was getting to a good state again after the war, so it felt like the right time for him. The sand village fully celebrated for like three days after Gaara gave birth because everyone adores him and they needed a nice reason to celebrate after the war.

Kiba - I didn't put him on my timeline, but I can see him having an 'oops' pup literally as soon as the war is over. And then several more oops pups directly afterwards. Someone please teach this boy family planning, sheesh.

Death note wise is a little more complicated, because the kira case impacts them all greatly. In a world where L is the biological parent of Mello and Near, then he would be the one to have pups first. He would have likely been very young, perhaps 19 or 20.

In a world where Light gets his perfect world, then it would be him who had pups first. The age would depend on how long it took him to remove the opposition and establish his new world order.

In a world where kira never exists, Matsuda would probably be first. Perhaps at around 25-27, after he felt somewhat established in his police career.

Okay, so in Suna, there’s very much still a culture of 'omega gives birth accompanied by their omega parent and omega midwives, while the alpha waits somewhere nearby and is called in when the whole birthing process is over'. It does go against instincts to do so, but it’s very culturally ingrained, so most people follow those guidelines.

(People from other countries, like Konoha, are horrified that alphas would leave their mate like that, but that’s the way it works in Suna.)

But Gaara, absolutely wants his alpha there.
