Plz share wag/hab Carlo, TP Carlos, RB Carlos with the class plz
i was only going to share a few bits bc they're all very messy wips, but i talk too much, so... (please talk carcar with me tho, i will always welcome it)
WAG/HAB carlos
the longest of my wips, with the longest timeline (starts in 2021...)
super self-indulgent. they get together relatively early in the timeline, and then spend the rest of it being disgustingly in love.
carlos sees first oscar first. there's a f2 quali in the same city as his tournament, so he goes. he switched his career and started playing golf professionally a little later than most, but he's raced his whole life. it's in his blood. he knows when he's looking at a great driver on the track. so he stays through the session and ends up seeing oscar piastri take his helmet, and then his balaclava off. his hair poofs about his head, and carlos is sold. he is endeared, charmed. he thinks that he'd like to see more of this young man.
they meet some race weekends later in barcelona. carlos has now been to a few of oscar's races, has cheered for him even. oscar doesn't recognise him — he isn't a fan of golf, after all. oscar is still riding the high of a good race and a new trophy to his name. it's the endorphins and the adrenaline rushing through him that makes him more outwardly happy than he'd otherwise be. it's also why he doesn't shy away when a handsome stranger congratulates him for a brilliant drive.
“I just think you’re brilliant,” he says, with his big brown doe eyes and plush lips pulled into a smile. Like he means it. Oscar doesn’t know what to do with that. He continues earnestly, “I believe that you’re going great places. That you’ll be a Formula One World Champion someday.”
Oscar laughs. “Yeah? You know a lot of World Champions?”
The outrageously handsome man smiles wider, looking even more outrageously handsome. Oscar wants to file a complaint to God himself for sculpting him. “You could say that I know enough World Champions quite well.”
they get together in early 2022... oscar becomes a test driver... carlos climbs the world ranks... summer breaks and off-seasons are spent together... carlos teaches oscar how to play golf... racing each other in the sainzes's estate... oscar moves to monaco and takes carlos with him...
while oscar is a test/reserve driver, carlos still visits the track, but doesn't linger in the alpine hospitality. instead, he bothers his only close friend there — max. max, of course, finds it all to be hilarious. (“I don’t think I’ve seen you so often since you quit,” Max observes one day as he enters his room to find Carlos laid on his sofa. “Do you just miss me or do you get too lonely when loverboy is busy?”)
the wag/hab part comes after oscar is signed to mclaren and suddenly there are more cameras on him and his entourage. carlos can be often found around the mclaren hospitality or garage, and it's always a treat when the cameras zoom in on him. he's also not shy about posting on his socials when he's with oscar, not shy about sharing oscar's post-race posts either.
tl;dr: au where carlos is a pro golfer, and oscar is the same. in 2024, oscar is a race winner and carlos is an olympic athlete and also oscar's gorgeous friend who's always in the paddocks. all sorts of worlds are colliding, and those with the eyes to see are Looking.
TP carlos
short and sweet (hopefully?)
au in which carlos comes out of a retirement no one was really expecting (least of all himself) to join his old team as their team principal.
oscar is new to the grid. he'd signed literally just before carlos was kicked, so they haven't intersected yet, not really.
so oscar doesn't know what to think of their new tp, who's just a bit too young and too handsome and too there.
Oscar doesn’t know what to make of Carlos Sainz. He knows him, of course. He knows every Formula One winner in the last few years, and even before then. He’s seen Sainz on magazines, on the television, on his phone, and even on Lando’s. Carlos Sainz is a familiar figure to anyone who’s touched Formula One racing in the last half decade. But that’s Carlos Sainz, the handsome Ferrari driver.
This is Carlos Sainz, McLaren’s new TP and test driver. It is an absurd situation, but everyone in the team is seemingly happy to have him around. It makes it exceedingly obvious, how young Oscar is, and how new he is to this space.
carlos is a very hands on tp who values driver input in every step of the process. he's also already rather familiar with oscar's teammate. this means a lot of meetings, phonecalls, and late night meetings with room service...
RB carlos
essentially, an au where things are just slightly different.
in which carlos grits his teeth and sticks through toro rosso until a rb promotion.
oscar signs with mclaren. that same year, carlos sainz, jr. becomes the 2023 wdc, the second spanish driver to do so in the history of the sport.
more or less a character study (?) of how it'd be if carlos stuck with rb despite everything. in this au, he's less friendly with the other drivers, more serious (not that he isn't already hh), and just generally a little exhausted all the time. his two closest friends are max and charles, and spends time with other drivers through their association only.
oscar piastri, however, is not the bright-eyed rookie carlos had been expecting. there is Something about him, and suddenly carlos is interested in someone outside his racecar, outside his very tight circle. carlos is so intrigued and so charmed. oscar is reserved, subdued, quiet. but there's a sharpness in him, a harshness that comes out only, it seems, when carlos rubs him the wrong way on track. it makes carlos wants to peel away his layers, see who he is beneath the pr training and the papaya fireproofs. maybe even beneath those.
oscar doesn't really like sainz. he knows he's spanish racing royalty and lando has put him on this pedestal as one of the greatest drivers ever, but he's just... a boring bloke. a vicious driver, sure. handsome with a nice smile, but rarely with anything behind it. serious. a little sad. he's winning races — and ruining oscar's, while he's at it — so really, if anyone should be upset, it should be oscar and not mr perfect.
max — along with charles and lando — is of the belief that they could be good together. meddling ensues.
tl;dr: carlos and oscar Noticing each other, but not doing anything about it until their friends catch on.
#carcar#5581#askbox#wip#fic#i spend more time thinking about these wips than actually working on them lmfao#as i was answering this ask i literally started an alpha/alpha wip please send help

love your scholarship 🥸
do you know anything about their school/college days - ie if they liked school/had favourite subjects/took particular classes? if Quinn and Luke declared majors at mich?
also if they’ve ever said what they read? think I read that Jack says he likes to read (sports books maybe?) in his spare time and one in of Ellen’s interviews she talks about reading (to them?) and somewhere else about how she was super involved in their academics
The teacher in me is fascinated!
quinn was enrolled in the school of kinesiology and majoring in sports management.
in 2021 he said
If you weren’t a hockey player, what else might you be doing? — Veronica X. I don’t know, I love golf. I’d probably be golfing a lot. I’d be in school somewhere … I’d be a senior right now so I’d probably be getting my degree in the next couple of weeks. Maybe business or sport management? That’s what I was looking at at Michigan for two years.
luke's intended major was also sports management. he was taking a business management class and fumbled his part on a group project when he signed with the devils. he took a greek sports history class and talked about how he doesn't love school but he likes history here (worth listening to imo) and he also enjoyed history of college athletics. luke actually took an online college class before officially starting at umich
"I'm taking an online chemistry class to get it off my plate. I wake-up and do two hours of that and then I go and work out with [trainer] Brian Gallivan and then I skate and then just chill by the pool and hang out. It's been nice."
here's a snippet from quinn about books
Hughes has become an avid reader to expand his knowledge and make better use of downtime. He recently completed “The Boys in the Boat” historical epic that was made into a movie directed by George Clooney. “I buried it, it’s done,” Hughes proudly stated Tuesday after practice. “I finished it three weeks ago. Great book. Page turner. I’m reading ‘Moneyball’ now.” “Boys in the Boat” is a riveting and true account of how the Depression-era University of Washington junior varsity rowing team stunned the world by overcoming immense odds to capture gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Joe Rantz was a driving force for the eight-man crew. A strong rower with an unshakeable disposition sounds a lot like the driven Hughes. “I thought Joe was just a hard worker who did his job and was a quiet guy,” said Hughes. “He appreciated everything that came his way. He pretty much raised himself from the age of 10 and was a very outdoors person.”
he apparently is "reading a book almost weekly to try to improve his brain" and he also was spotted reading Stay Sane in an Insane World: How to Control the Controllables and Thrive
jack likes reading sports books as said here, specifically Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success and Three-Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Years of the Lakers Dynasty. The Mamba Mentality: How I Play was on his reading list in high school. he also talks about books here
Craig: The other thing that (Williams) said was reading. He said you’re asking for book recs. We’re looking for book recs. We’re big readers. Jack: Yeah, you guys got any? I dunno. (I’m tired of) everything on my phone, social media, things like that — and I never went to college, so you gotta get smarter somehow. Craig: Are you a fiction guy? Are you a self-improvement guy? What do you find yourself gravitating towards? Jack: I read a lot of sports books. “Eleven Rings,” by Phil Jackson. Also, “Greenlights” by Matthew McConaughey. Those are my favorite ones I’ve read recently. It’s important. We’ve got a lot of down time on the road, so it’s good stuff.
as for ellen, she said this in the cammi & aj podcast
So for me, you do things that you enjoy or you- you teach them things that you feel like you can teach them, Right. So it's kind of a slight on me that I wasn't more worldly and wanting to take them to museums. Or maybe like I felt like I had do those things because like, ‘Oh my God, what am I teaching them?’ But you tend to do the things that you - you're trying to find activities. Jimmy was off coaching a lot, I had three young boys that were really close in age. So what do I know? What can I do to pass time and keep them active? It was kicking a soccer ball. It was throwing a ball, it was doing rollerblading, it was passing the puck, it was taking them skating. So for me, those were mommy and me activities, right? And then every once in a while I'd be like, you know, I'd be like, ‘uh, we got to do Kumon, we gotta do like - we gotta read.’ You know, academics was really important to me because I felt like I was so driven the other way that like, I didn’t want to miss out on the other. So for us, it was never this grandiose plan, and I'm sure you guys were the same way. It was more like, ‘be the best at whatever it is you're doing, work your hardest at whatever it is you're doing.’ Working the hardest didn't mean scoring the most goals. It was playing the right way, whatever it is, being a great teammate and working really, really hard and we always felt like the other would come.
other potentially interesting notes, jack was an honor roll student in 8th grade, and quinn agreed he was the best at school when they were younger, so it's funny he's the one who didn't end up going to college. ellen's brother is actually the president of denison university and they have some pretty academic cousins also.

In 2021, FIBA moved Americup to the Summer to prevent USA from sending WNBA veterans. USA's senior national team Americup chances rest entirely on the shoulders of young players. Here's how it went the first time in 2021.
youtube
And here's the USA Basketball senior national team last Summer fighting for their lives in Mexico
youtube
And here's Caitlin Clark who didn't participate in Americup last Summer because she was too busy with golf
youtube
Some journalists are outraged and shocked that Clark is not an Olympian this year. But none of them mention that golf was her priority while USA Basketball was preparing for the Olympics.
I actually respect Caitlin's decision to prioritize fan events and boost her crossover appeal during Summer 2023. It was a good business move and clearly it worked because she's sold a lot of tickets since then. And that's awesome. But Team USA doesn't need to sell tickets in Paris. All the tickets have already been sold to French and Belgian fans who will be cheering against USA.

It is probably a live show on Chinese public television that ZZH was invited to be a commentator for. I don't know the exact date, but it is related to the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were held in Tokyo from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021. So this broadcast must have taken place during this period. I associate this appearance with two things, first, that ZZH was talking to the host about playing golf and showing off his skills, and second, that if you look closely at the photo taken of ZZH during his golf swing, you can see the pleat on his jeans, which was supposed to adjust the belt to ZZH's slim waist. Overall, ZZH was very enjoyable to watch during this show, as can be seen from the photos taken of him during this time (or the shots that were screenshots taken during the show). ZZH showed a very expressive behavior, which was visible on his face. It seems to me that this presence on TV and his performance were such a distraction from the whole situation that was happening around him at that time. From June, throughout July and early August 2021, in addition to work, ZZH had to deal with hateful comments and rumors. He probably did not realize at the time that people in his immediate circle, those he also trusted, were working to his detriment. ZZH probably had too many things to do at that time to pay close attention to everything. This situation could have overwhelmed him a bit at that time. In addition to his regular work, promoting companies with which he had a contract, he had to supervise the organization of his concert scheduled for September and the promotion of the Retro Detective series. It was too much for one person. But let's get back to the photo. From several shots, I chose the one in which ZZH is sitting at a table, with his hands resting on the table and both folded on himself, as if wishing the players good luck. He looks like he is watching the games and wants his country's team to succeed. His gaze is focused and his mouth is slightly open. ZZH chose a simple, simple, but elegant outfit for the TV show. Light denim pants and an elegant light blue shirt with delicate stripes. It must be admitted that these pastel, light colors perfectly emphasize ZZH's beauty. His beauty is also emphasized by his neat hairstyle, ZZH's hair is shorter, well-shaded, so it lies softly on his head. I think it was an excellent choice of the program producers to invite ZZH to this program, who brought such a breath of fresh air and was able to encourage viewers to watch the Olympic Games broadcasts and cheer on the teams. Additionally, ZZH could boast about his golf skills, as well as show off his beautiful figure. I believe that after ZZH's name is cleared, he will have many opportunities to appear on Chinese public television.

entrevista

John and John II Daly shoot 15-under 57 | Round 2 | PNC Championship | 2021
Dec 19, 2021
In the final round of the 2021 PNC Championship, Team Daly fired a 15-under 57 to claim a two-shot victory at 27-under par overall.
This week’s PNC Championship will see Tiger Woods return to action for the first time since the PNC Championship last year. The unique event, previously called the Father/Son Challenge, will see a host of PGA TOUR and Champions Tour players compete alongside their children and parents over 36 holes, in a bid to win the Willie Park trophy. Last year’s victors, Justin and father Mike Thomas return to the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, hoping to become the first back-to-back winners since Larry and Drew Nelson in 2008. After finishing seventh in last year’s event Tiger Woods and his son Charlie, now 12 years old, will be looking to once again challenge for the title. Other duos to look out for this weekend include Jim Furyk and son Tanner, Nick Faldo and son Matthew and Olympic Gold medalist and 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner, Nelly Korda alongside her father Petr. In order to be eligible, participants must have either won a major championship or THE PLAYERS Championship. The competition adopts a scramble format, in which each player in the pairing tees off, with both participants then playing each subsequent shot from within a club length of where the best shot of the two lands.

Golf at the 2024 Summer Olympics
Entrepreneur Spencer Schar is an avid golf enthusiast who enjoys playing in his spare time and following the latest golfing news. This article will look at the golf tournaments forming part of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, with golfing events scheduled to take place from August 1st to August 10th 2024 at Le Golf National in Guyancourt.
At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, 120 players in total will compete in golf tournaments, with 60 participating in the men’s event and 60 playing in the women’s golf tournament. The qualification format and pathway for the Paris Olympics remains the same as the last two editions, with players qualifying for gender-based events over a four-day, 72-hole individual stroke play tournament. The men’s event is scheduled to play first on August 1st 2024, with the women’s tournament staged four days later.
Golf is one the first known modern sports. The rules of golf were codified in the town of St Andrews in Scotland in 1754, although the origins of golf go back much further, with traces of a similar sport played in the Netherlands said to have arrived in the British Isles as far back as the 15th century. The first women’s golf tournaments were established towards the end of the 1800s. Today, there are more than 30,000 golf courses worldwide and an estimated 60 million golfers globally.
Golf is a relatively easy to understand, straightforward game that requires participants to use successive club strokes to hit a ball from the teeing ground into a hole. Players select different clubs depending on the ground they are hitting the ball from.
Prior to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, golf had been incorporated into Olympic programming just twice: in 1900 and 1904. Golf made its comeback at the Olympic Games in Brazil, returning again at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
Player interest in participating in Olympic golf tournaments has increased significantly in recent years, with several high-profile players suggesting that the experience at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 far exceeded their expectations.
On the men’s side, 31 golfers who competed in the Tokyo Olympics will also be eligible for Paris, including the gold medal winner Xander Schauffele. Meanwhile, in the women’s Olympic golf tournament in Paris, Nelly Korda will be defending her gold, with Lydia Ko eligible to attempt a third Olympic medal win after claiming bronze in 2021 and silver in 2016.

Best Airports in the World
Travelling by air is no longer a luxury but an essential service, and when so many factors drive your business, it is crucial to list out the best airports in the world for everyone’s understanding. Let us deep dive, find the best from the lot, and make sure to capture all of them for your social media handles.

At Canada Winter Games, children of top athletes say their advice helps development
For some athletes at the Canada Winter Games, the discipline of elite sport has been part of their lives since they bounced on their parents' muscled legs.
And as the Games unfold in Prince Edward Island, Halifax and Crabbe Mountain, N.B., a glance through the Team Alberta roster provides examples of elite-sports parents who have nurtured talented offspring, with family ties found in hockey, curling and speedskating.
Stuart Wilson, a 30-year-old doctoral candidate in sport psychology at the University of Ottawa, says this mirrors a wider trend.
He studied data gathered in 2013-15 on Canadian and Australian athletes, and in 2017 published findings indicating that 46 -- or about a third -- of the 139 elite athletes interviewed had a parent who was either a national- or international-level competitor.
"It supports the old joke that if you want to be a great athlete, you have to choose your parents," he said, during an interview on Tuesday.
"But why does it happen? Well, we know there's a bit of genetics, but from a psychologist's perspective there's likely more things going on," he added.
For Zoe Lueders, 20, and her sister Maya Lueders, 17, of the Alberta speedskating team, the answer lies in emotional support and psychological guidance.
The daughters of Pierre Lueders, an Olympic gold medallist in bobsled, say they grew up with an expert source on the "mindset" needed for high-level competition.
"He taught me: be sure you don't overthink. The biggest thing is to trust in what you've done and in your ability," said Maya, who won silver in the 500 metres on Tuesday.
Luke Vlooswyk, a Calgary-based hockey player competing at the Games, has grown up with the role model of his 48-year-old mother, Lisa Vlooswyk, an eight-time Canadian long-drive golf champion.
He said he has watched and emulated her weight training technique at the family's home gym, learning to focus on form. "Whether it's the squats or dead lifts -- she's given me helpful critique," the 16-year-old defenceman said.
He said his mother has passed on other tips. "She taught me to study your opponents' game while you're on the bench .... In hockey, I watch the forwards coming down the side constantly and I can pick up on what moves they're making," he said.
Then, there's the reality of learning from failing. "She's shown me that winning is great, but you learn more from your losses," he explained.
Wilson said it's his suspicion that having the support of an elite athlete as a parent may add an edge in the maze of choices amateurs face as they develop.
"Having a parent who's gone through that pathway could be an advantage on its own," he said.
"When do they start? How often do you go to practice? What is a good coach and a bad coach? A parent who has been there before has a much better idea of what good and bad is and how to support their children when they go through."
Yankun Zhao is the 19-year-old son of Xiuli Wang, who competed in four Olympics in speedskating for China and has been a national team speedskating coach for both Canada and China. Zhao has drawn on his mother to help navigate the hard times.
The young speedskater says that after his father died in the summer of 2021, he had difficulty training and fell short of being selected for the junior national team that year, but his mother offered guidance through a period of rebuilding.
"She took this defeat and taught me to use it as a motivation for the next year to make the junior (national) team a year later, which I did," he said, adding he came sixth in the 1 km race at recent world championships.
None of the athletes interviewed indicated a sense of heightened pressure from their parents, saying their mothers and fathers sometimes encouraged breaks at strategic times.
David Nedohin, a three-time world champion curler and the father of Canada Games curling athlete Alyssa Nedohin, said much of the benefit of an elite-athlete parent may happen on an almost subconscious level for their children.
"When you grow up in a house where the things you think about are goal-setting and how you're going to get there ... it's the children's natural way of thinking and how they approach life," he said in an interview Wednesday.
Wilson said that while sports dynasties are often celebrated, they can also suggest a Canadian sports system that lacks methods to bring in emerging talent from less privileged social groups. He said a wider, school-based sports system might allow more Canadian children to try different disciplines and encourage a more diverse talent pool.
"Winter sport is often pretty expensive and requires a lot of know-how,"," said the psychologist. "Because of institutional and financial barriers to participating and succeeding in some of these sports, it favours those who have been there before."

Olympics golf leaderboard (2020 Tokyo), results: Xander Schauffele wins gold with clutch par at 72nd hole
2020 Tokyo Olympics golf leaderboard, results: Xander Schauffele wins gold with clutch par at 72nd hole: As soon as it was introduced that golf on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics can be a no-cut, small-field occasion, it ought to have been obvious that Xander Schauffele would thrive. The American received gold on Sunday with a closing 68 to complete 18 beneath at Kasumigaseki Nation Membership, clipping Rory Sabbatini by one stroke on a wild Sunday of golf outdoors of Tokyo.
Sabbatini went out a number of teams forward of Schauffele and fired a stunning 10-under 61 to place some electrical energy into what seemed like a Schauffele rout early within the day. The jolt of Sabbatini – competing beneath the Slovakian flag together with his spouse on the bag (extra on that beneath) – working up the board mixed with the issue of closing out any golf match appeared to have an effect on Schauffele late within the day.

After a flawless first 9, Schauffele began to skid a bit going into the ending. A tee shot that just about went out of bounds and ended with him thinning an iron out of the forest as a result of his membership was wrapped round a vine resulted in a bogey 6 on the par-5 14th gap. It may have been a lot worse. He obtained that stroke again on No. 17 with a clutch up and down from a greenside bunker for birdie after which hit the shot of his life on the 18th. From 98 yards to three ft for a gold medal when he completely needed to have it to keep away from a playoff with Sabbatini.
“Most likely extra [pressure in this event than other ones] in all honesty,” Schauffele informed Golf Channel after profitable for the primary time in over two years. “I actually needed to win for my dad. I am certain he is crying someplace proper now. I form of needed this yet another than another one.”

Schauffele’s father, Stefan, was as soon as an Olympic longing for Germany within the decathlon earlier than being hit by a drunk driver and shedding imaginative and prescient in one in all his eyes. He now coaches his son, who can be an Olympic champion.
The win is the largest of Schauffele’s still-growing resume. 4 of his 5 wins as knowledgeable have are available in related small-field, no-cut tournaments, together with the Tour Championship, WGC-HSBC Champions and Event of Champions. This one, although, will linger longer than the remainder of them and may very well be rocket gasoline to what has been an extremely profitable profession to this point, regardless of no main championship wins.
That is for later, although. For now, Schauffele will get to take pleasure in profitable the US a gold medal within the second occasion since golf was reinstated as an Olympic sport again in 2016 on the Rio Video games (Matt Kuchar took bronze for the U.S. in 2016). Schauffele was one of many extra vocal gamers this week about how monumental bringing a medal again to his residence nation can be, and I considered what he mentioned on Tuesday after he received on Sunday.
“I feel clearly profitable a gold medal and representing our nation is an enormous deal or else we would not be sitting right here speaking to you and answering these questions,” mentioned Schauffele.
“In case you take a look at different … athletes, monitor and subject, swimming, judo, another excessive athlete, that is the head. That is essentially the most honorable factor and the largest factor you are able to do in your nation. For golf it is so contemporary and so new and fortuitously [teammate] Collin [Morikawa] and I are younger, and so after we speak to you, it’s thrilling, it is vitally cool. It’s one thing we need to do, and profitable a gold medal and representing the USA appropriately. And, like I mentioned, we would not be right here if we did not really feel that manner and really feel strongly about it.”

Schauffele has his gold medal, and although it got here in a similarly-styled match to a lot of the others he is received, he did it otherwise than earlier than. That is the primary time he is led from out in entrance and closed a 54-hole lead. That is significant in any occasion, much more so in an Olympics with a crushing weight bearing down on you, improbably within the type of a 61 from a person who simply gained citizenship to the nation he was representing a number of years in the past.
Schauffele’s gold medal is an enormous deal for myriad causes. Shutting down a match he is aware of means the world to his father. Staring down a gold medal with the most effective photographs he is ever hit. Holding off all comers by profitable from out in entrance. It might not have been seen by very many people in the US, however those that did look forward to it’ll keep in mind that he received it and the way he received it for a really very long time. Grade: A+
Listed below are the remainder of our grades for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
2. SILVER — Rory Sabbatini (-17): Sabbatini lit the match on hearth on Sunday forward of the leaders with that 61 that included two bogeys and one of many nice early fist pumps in golf historical past on the ultimate gap (the video beneath is unimaginable). Sabbatini talked all week in regards to the jolt he is been wanting to present to golf in Slovakia (although he is from South Africa, he has dual-citizenship as a result of his spouse, who caddied for him this week, is Slovakian). He did not find yourself profitable gold, however notching Slovakia’s third medal of those Olympic Video games is an enormous deal, and him capturing a 61 in the course of the night time (and a best-ball 57 with taking part in companion C.T. Pan!) is one I will bear in mind for an extended, very long time.
3. BRONZE — C.T. Pan (-15): Pan technically completed T3 with six different golfers however beat all of them on the fourth playoff gap for the bronze medal when Collin Morikawa’s second shot plugged in a bunker. Usually, it could be outstanding that Pan beat Morikawa, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and Paul Casey in a playoff, however on this occasion it’s really astonishing. Why? Pan began his match with a 74 on Thursday that was higher than two golfers. He closed 66-66-63 simply to get into the playoff and ended up taking residence a medal. Unbelievable stuff. Grade: A
Read more: What 10 Popular Products Look Like Before They Hit Store Shelves
T4. Hideki Matsuyama (-15): Matsuyama was a type of golfers Pan beat within the insane seven-man playoff. He began gradual however closed laborious and had a putt to keep away from the playoff altogether on the 72nd gap. He missed it and bowed out of the playoff early on the primary gap, however his efficiency in his residence nation when everybody was anticipating a lot from the Masters champion was fairly inspiring. Particularly contemplating this was his first occasion in a month after he examined constructive for COVID-19 and missed the final main of the yr. Grade: A
(Olympics golf): T4. Rory McIlroy (-15): McIlroy misplaced out on the seven-way bronze medal playoff on the third playoff gap, however he was terrific each on and off the course all week. He gave a ton of nice quotes — and talked so much about how he must be extra relaxed on the course and extra athletic together with his placing — however that is the one I feel will stick to me the longest.
“I want to present issues an opportunity,” he mentioned of his skepticism in regards to the Olympics earlier than taking part in in it. “I used to be chatting with my spouse final night time and saying perhaps I should not be so skeptical. However I feel I must do a greater job of simply giving an opportunity, experiencing issues, not writing them off at first look. That is form of a trait of mine, however like I am glad to be confirmed incorrect. I used to be confirmed incorrect on the Ryder Cup, I have been confirmed incorrect this week and I am glad that, I am glad to say that.” Grade: A
Additionally completed T4 (-15): Sebastian Munoz, Paul Casey, Mito Pereira
T22. Sungjae Im (-10): Im gave it an awesome run on the weekend however finally got here up brief due to a gradual begin within the first two rounds that had him 1 over going to the weekend. He (and Si Woo Kim) are notable as a result of profitable any of the three medals this week would have exempted them from obligatory army service sooner or later. They’re each younger sufficient that they may have one other shot on the 2024 Olympics and even the 2028 Olympics, however with a lot of the golf world rooting for them in Tokyo, it was an enormous bummer to see them come up brief (Kim completed T32). Grade: B+
T22. Justin Thomas (-10): If this occasion had been seven or eight days lengthy, J.T. could have ended up profitable. After a gap 71 on Thursday by which he made 18 consecutive pars, he improved his rating each day and closed with a 65 on Sunday. He was among the many large group of gamers who have been overwhelmed with how good their Olympics expertise was.

“It is so totally different,” mentioned Thomas. “It was cooler than I believed it was. I am extra happy with being right here than I believed I might be. I believed I might be proud, however the first like day or two I instantly discovered that that is like the best factor I’ve ever been part of.
“The Ryder Cup is cool, the Presidents Cup’s cool, however that is simply so totally different. I grew up watching the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup, the majors, and by no means grew up watching this, so nobody was ever in a position to relay or say the way it felt being an Olympian, particularly a golfer. I used to be by no means hitting putts as an 8, 10-year-old on the placing inexperienced to win the Olympics and win a gold medal. So I feel when you do not have the power to dream one thing, whenever you get right here … it may generally simply take you unexpectedly, and this undoubtedly exceeded that.” Grade: B-
